How the Bush administration's propaganda machine -- with the help of Roger Ailes' Fox News -- distorts the truth in the Middle East and at home.

Judging by a flood of questions yesterday, the public is real interested in this story about the Bush administration leaking a CIA operative's name -- and the media are not looking too good in the process.

"Don't mention the war" will be one of the big themes of Labour's annual conference this week, if party managers are able to keep control of rebellious delegates.

That old colonialist racism is manifesting itself in all these remarks about our having to tutor the Iraqis in running their own country. The Iraqis can govern themselves. They've been a nation as long as Finland and a civilization longer than Europe.

Some, indeed much, of this nonsense comes from the myth-making intelligence service of Israel, which really does have weapons of mass destruction, although Engel’s imaginative intervention probably had its roots in the claim of a US intelligence officer in Baghdad last April. He went on insisting Iraq had transferred its non-existent WMD to Syria by rail — before being shown a map that proved the only railway line from Iraq to Syria passed through Turkey.

US Said To Have Fabricated Evidence In Yugoslavia...
The US? Fabricate evidence to justify a war?!? Piffles! Piffles, I say! - M. R.

According to Cheney's own financial disclosure statements, he continues to collect a yearly Halliburton check in "deferred compensation" -- Cheney spread his last paycheck out over a period of years so he could pay less income tax to those sons-a-$#%@s in Washington like, um, himself. So he'll be pocketing about $150,000 or so a year from Halliburton through 2005. And, Cheney also holds hundreds of thousands of stock options, which gain in value as Halliburton grows fat, and fatter, on those shameless no-bid cost-plus contracts.

The Defense Intelligence Agency reported before the war with Iraq it had "no reliable information" that Iraq had chemical and biological weapons...

Pre-eminent among these was the decision announced recently that Secretary of State Colin Powell had been authorized by Bush to seek a U.N. Security Council mandate for postwar Iraq. At best, the effect was to signal the president's recognition that his U.S.-led liberation had failed and could only be legitimated - and salvaged - if those who had opposed it (in particular, the French, Germans, Russians, Syrians, Chinese and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan) were placated with U.S. concessions leading to new military and/or political arrangements. At worst, the signal was the United States was preparing, once again, to bail out on a difficult and costly international mission.

Bush Fails to Gain Pledges on Troops or Funds for Iraq (washingtonpost.com)...
Bush ( Blair was notably absent from the UN during Bush's speech) lied to the world to manufacture a war of conquest out of thin air, and told the world to fuck off when doubts and cautions were expressed. Now Bush has gone back to those same nations and same UN he snubbed, hat in hand, asking for money and troops to clean up the mess Bush has made of Iraq. The rest of the world, understandably, has told Bush to clean up his own mess. But, the people telling Bush what he must do don;t take failure well, and have a reputation for doing "anything" to get what they want. So, expect Bush to call up more National Guard and reserves to pour into the quagmire of the Mideast, and to go on TV explaining to the American taxpayer why "we" are responsible to pay for Iraq's reconstruction. - M. R.

Under the guise of forcibly divesting Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction, the US now sought to 'reshape' the entire Middle East, with this most richly endowed and pivotal of countries as the lynchpin of a whole new, pro-American geopolitical order. For those who were most convinced that US military might would suffice in imposing Washington’s will upon the Middle East—the administration’s journalistic toadies—the crisis in Iraq has created extreme frustration and belligerence. Short version: When the money itself has value, nothing the government can do can change its worth. Control of the worth of your money remains in your hands. Iraq, for example, did not have nuclear or biological or chemical weapons. So now Bush is turning on Syria because of their supposed nuclear or biological or chemical weapons. Iraq is already a proven political career wrecker. Tony Blair is still licking his wounds. And here Bush is ready to start another such politicaly upopular war, ahead of an election year, on a repettiion of the same pretexts for the war in Iraq. It’s hard to believe that it was just a slip of the tongue rather than a calculated lie when US Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz sullied the memory of those who died on Sept. 11 by exploiting their deaths for propaganda purposes. The brainwashing of Americans, two-thirds of whom believe that Saddam Hussein was behind the attacks, is too effective a political ploy for the Bush regime to suddenly let the truth get in the way.

Vice President Dick Cheney said, "Since I left Halliburton to become George Bush's vice president, I've severed all my ties with the company, gotten rid of all my financial interests. I have no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind and haven't had now, for over three years." That is the latest White House lie.

Since the breed is now being ripely abused as the sponsors of the US debacle in Iraq, we had better be clear about its political bloodlines. What exactly is a neo-con? The label was first stuck on those Democrats classed as liberals in the early 1970s who thought George McGovern, the anti-war Democratic nominee in 1972 crushed by Nixon, represented an unacceptable swerve to the left by their party, and who moved sharply to the right, advocating a tough coldwar posture, reassertion of imperial confidence after Vietnam, increased military spending and, above all, uncritical US backing for Israeli intransigeance.

It's a shell game, with money, companies and corporate brands switching in a blur of buyouts and bogus fronts. It's a sinkhole, where mobbed-up operators, paid-off public servants, crazed Christian fascists, CIA shadow-jobbers, war-pimping arms dealers -- and presidential family members -- lie down together in the slime. It's a hacker's dream, with pork-funded, half-finished, secretly programmed computer systems installed without basic security standards by politically partisan private firms, and protected by law from public scrutiny. It's how the United States, the "world's greatest democracy," casts its votes. And it's why George W. Bush will almost certainly be the next president of the United States -- no matter what the people of the United States might want.

Growing World View US Govt Was Complicit In 911...
Otherwise, why would the US Government classify evidence linking arrested Israeli spies to 9-11, and turn such an obvious blind eye to the man actually caught entering the storage area where the Anthrax used in the letters was kept? - M. R.

Neo-Nazi leader 'was MI6 agent'...
Here we find yet another instance where the enemies the government tells us to be afraid of are created by the government itself. "Terrorists" try to bomb the WTC, then we find out the "terrorists" included FBI. "Militia's" are declared a threat to the nation following the OK city bombing, then we find out that most Militia's are being run by BATF informants. The founder and leader of Elohim City, a "hotbed of white separatism" at the time Tim McVeigh was hanging around, was also an FBI informant. "Neo-Nazis" are on the rise, and we find out the Neo-Nazi leaders are intelligence agents. "Al Qaeda" knows down the WTC on 9-11, then we find out that at least in the case if Palestine, "Al Qaeda" is actually a Mossad front. Do you get it yet? All this terror and terror group crap is a FRAUD by the government itself to scare you under control. - M. R.

You define a good economy by asking the right questions. Are there jobs for everyone who wants one? Can working people afford decent housing and adequate medical care on their salaries? Is the currency maintaining its value so that people can save for their retirement? Are taxes both low and equitable? Are usurious interest rates forbidden? Is the gap between the rich and the poor shrinking instead of expanding?

Bangkok Post Thursday 18 September 2003 - What's all this about being anti-America?...
The US Government copies Israel's ploy of "you oppose us only because you hate us" and gets called on it. - M. R.

This timidity in criticising, if not condemning, Israel, the "only democracy in the Middle East", has long been a serious obstacle to reaching a fair solution for this decades-old conflict between Arabs and Israelis.

Mostly, we've been watching the president's rhetoric spring leaks in Iraq and Afghanistan. So perhaps we haven't paid enough attention to how many holes have popped open in his domestic socks. Joblessness that was supposed to be stanched by the Bush tax cuts. Urban food kitchens overwhelmed by the demand from people who are working but underemployed and end up out of money three weeks into the month. A domestic Peace Corps program (AmeriCorps) that is praised publicly by the president as admirable volunteerism but is being starved of money by the White House and congressional Republicans. But, still, you wouldn't think he would stiff children and their schooling. That's maybe the most disappointing thing this president has done here at home.

With accusations relating to weapons of mass destruction having been a large part of the US pretext for invading Iraq and Iran now facing heavy pressure over similar claims, the double standard involving the Jewish state which has steadfastly refused to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) has become too obvious to ignore any longer.

The reckless financial policies of leading western powers in the last two decades make it likely that the next seismic debt crisis will be in America, not Argentina.

We're winning this war. Really. It's going great. Just a bloody nose, right? We're tougher than that, right? The combat is over, really. Make that major combat is over. Maybe. But we need to show those Aya-rahbs that we're tough and just keep pouring your kids into that hell hole. The more of them that get killed, the stronger we look! - M. R.
