February 29, 2004In the early 1980s, brothers Bob and Todd Urosevich founded ES&S’s originator, Data Mark. The brothers Urosevich obtained financing from the far-Right Ahmanson family in 1984, which purchased a 68% ownership stake, according to the Omaha World Herald. After brothers William and Robert Ahmanson infused Data Mark with new capital, the name was changed to American Information Systems (AIS). California newspapers have long documented the Ahmanson family’s ties to right-wing evangelical Christian and Republican circles.

John Ashton’s and Ian Ferguson’s work on the circumstances surrounding the destruction on December 21, 1988, of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland is worthy of careful study. It raises serious doubts, not only regarding the recent conviction of the Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, now incarcerated in Barlinnie jail, Glasgow, but over the entire official presentation of events before and after the crash, from 1988 to the present day.

There is an aspect to the Mel Gibson controversy that many people are overlooking. Mel, even though I feel he is historically wrong, showed a great deal of personal courage making this film, knowing it was going to upset people with a great deal of influence in the motion picture industry. Such courage is rare, very rare, in Hollywood, and even though we may not agree with the thesis that the Jews killed Jesus, we should applaud and encourage artists who risk greatly to put their viewpoint on the silver screen, and oppose those self-appointed censors who think we are so weak minded that a single film will control our minds and make us think thoughts they do not want us to think.
When all else is said and done, Mel has proved that he is a man with the courage of his convictions, and he deserves our respect on that point. The outcry against Gibson reminds me of a line from the film "Spartacus", when Spartacus says, "When one man says 'no', Rome starts to fear." Hollywood, and indeed all of the US Mainstream media has for too long obeyed the dictates of a small minority over what stories may or may not be told to the public, with the recent story of Captain Boston's revelations about USS Liberty again illustrating how obedient the mainstream media still is to those vested interests. But Mel has said, "No". and the vested interests certainly act like they are afraid. Maybe the time of the dictators is about to come to an end. - M. R. Aristide leaves violence-torn Haiti...

Jewish Group Calls On Ashcroft To Ban Passion...
I am going to repeat my comment from yesterday. In a free society, everyone has the right to say, write, sing, or make movies, of anything they think is important. You, the audience, are free to either see, read, or hear the work, or if you prefer, equally free to go find something else to do. In a free society people are also free to disagree with the content of that work (as in this case I do) and voice their disagreement.
But in a dictatorship, works are banned from being shown. The choice to experience a work, or not experience it, even the choice to agree or disagree with the content, are removed from the people and reserved to the dictators. So, dictatorship is clearly what this newly-formed group is after, much as they have created in Canada where Ernst Zundel, who has never committed a crime, is in jail because he questions the accuracy of certain claims made by the self-appointed dictators. Do we want that sort of thing here in this country, where other people decide for us, based on their own self interest, what we should see or not see, where truth is itself has become a crime punishable by prison? The Founding Fathers fought a revolution, and their grandsons and great grandsons fought two world wars for the principle that no government or special elite group could tell the rest of us what to say, think, or do. We dare not cast aside so lightly what they paid for so dearly. Dictatorship is loose in the land. Will you stay silent while it steals what is left of your freedom? - M. R. The documents from the Army inquiry reveal that a Lt. Col. Apparently, he had been let in by a close friend, Dr. Marian Rippy, who testified, "I can tell you, there was no suspicious stuff going on there with specimens." Of course, contrary to Dr. Rippy's claim, it seems quite apparent that there had, in fact, been a considerable amount of "suspicious stuff" going on at the lab.

States that allow conceal carry have a lower incidence of violent crimes because the criminals known they face a potentially armed victim. Mel Gibson Vs Abe Foxman: Victory for First Amendment...
This is how things work in a free society. Someone writes or makes a film or composes music freely and those who don't want to see or read or listen go someplace else, while those who disagree (as in this instance myself) express their opinions with equal freedom. I don't agree with Gibson's historical views, but he has a right to make his film, which can still be enjoyed much as one would enjoy one of Ray Harryhausen's films about Greek and Roman mythology.
Only those who support dictatorship think it is acceptable to block books and films they do not agree with, or to throw people in jail who do not accept at face value the cultural orthodoxy. And on that basis, the choice between freedom and dictatorship, I am very glad Mr. Gibson's film is doing well. - M. R. Shepherd killed by Israeli fire near border; body pulled to Israeli side...

The stated purpose of the special Senate committee—which convened in mid 1991 and concluded in January 1993—was to investigate the evidence about prisoners who were never returned and find out what happened to the missing men. Committee chair Kerry's larger and different goal, though never stated publicly, emerged over time: He wanted to clear a path to normalization of relations with Hanoi. In any other context, that would have been an honorable goal. But getting at the truth of the unaccounted for P.O.W.'s and M.I.A.'s (Missing In Action) was the main obstacle to normalization—and therefore in conflict with his real intent and plan of action.

Anger is good. Anger fules change. But remember that Bush did not create this war all by himself, and a much wider circle of people is deserving of your anger and hatred. - M. R.
FLASHBACK: Spy Rumors Fly on Gusts of Truth...
Israel's attempt to dismiss reports of Israeli spying in the US as "Arab Rumors" fails in the face of the actual facts. An investigation into the tapping of police phone lines and the use of the information to thwart drug investigations did lead to the uncovering of the largest spy ring ever found inside the US, being run by Israel. But like the USS Liberty attack, the scandal was covered up by the US Government.
"Evidence linking these
Israelis to 9/11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been
gathered. It's classified information."
-- US official quoted in Carl Cameron's Fox News report on the Israeli
spy ring and its connections to 9-11. - M. R.

Anti-Semitism charges causing more damage than film could
Those Jewish organizations that have squandered both time and money futilely protesting "The Passion," ostensibly in order to prevent pogroms in Pittsburgh, can hardly be proud of their performance. They failed at everything they attempted. They were hoping to ruin Gibson rather than enrich him. They were hoping to suppress "The Passion" rather than promote it. Finally, they were hoping to help Jews rather than harm them.
But by selectively unleashing their fury only on wholesome entertainment that depicts Christianity in a positive light, these groups have triggered anger, hurt and resentment.

The trust accounts in question -- which hold approximately $450 million at any given time -- aren't filled with government handouts. They contain money that belongs to individual Indians who have earned it from a variety of sources such as oil and gas production, grazing leases, coal production and timber sales on their allotted lands.
Revenues from such sources are held in more than 387,000 Individual Indian Money (IIM) accounts managed -- or according to detractors, "mismanaged" -- by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). "The BIA has spent more than 100 years mismanaging, diverting and losing money that belongs to Indians," Echohawk says. "They have no idea how much has been collected from the companies that use our land and are unable to provide even a basic, regular statement to Indian account holders."

Mystery Continues: Scientists Baffled by Spheres on Mars...
We didn;t see these at the Viking landing sites. However, those were much higher in the atmosphere than the rover sites, which were picked for the possibility of water. My first impression is that these are built up by wind blown dust that accumulates a coating as they roll along the surface. The variatrion in size supports this explanation, as do the few broken open spherules which do not reveal anything other than a homogenous interior. - M. R.
