Another example of how elections don`t ever change anything....

US officials misplace $11.4bn...
"It was right here on my desk just a minute ago!" - M. R.

According to analysis by the group of senior statisticians, the new data just released by the exit-pollsters shows that the possibility that the overall vote count was substantially corrupted must be taken seriously. “Now we have statistical evidence that these reports were the tip of a national iceberg. The hypothesis that the discrepancy between the exit polls and election results is due to errors in the official election tally is a coherent theory that must be explored,” said statistician Josh Mitteldorf.

A federal judge ruled this morning that special military reviews the Pentagon has used to determine the likely guilt of most of the 500 men held at a prison in Guantanamo Bay -- and to justify their continued imprisonment -- are illegal.

The Bovine Excrement Meter just blew up....

Britain doesn't confirm claims aircraft downed.

Videotape appears to show Hercules missile hit...
I note that the number of killed keeps shrinking. Yesterday it was 15 British and an unspecified number of Americans (with one report claiming 70 killed total).

Now, as if by magic, only ten British were killed in the crash, riding in an airplane that normally holds 128.

I get the feeling that Bush and Blair are being less than honest with us! - M. R.

Voting in Baghdad was linked with receipt of food rations, several voters said after the Sunday poll.

A British military source told Reuters up to 15 British troops were killed --Britain's biggest single loss of life of the Iraq campaign. President Bush said both U.S. and British military personnel had lost their lives in the crash. There had been no previous mention of US deaths Reuters noted. The Daily Telegraph mentions an ominous "maximum" of 70 special forces soldiers from both countries aboard the plane.
So, if there were 70 people on board, and 15 were British, then 55 Americans died yesterday.

So, when will ABCNNBCBS report this? - M. R.

The Legacy of George W. Bush...

Media Service had an agent, a Moscow-based company, which would select prettiest girls and send them to Russia's capital. In Moscow, girls would receive Israeli visas and leave Russia. In Tel Aviv, Russian girls would be sent to a slave market, on which they would be sold to pimps from China and Middle Eastern states.

Iraq voter turnout lowered...
And, of course, if you don't really know how many people voted, you cannot know how many of the ballots are fakes. - M. R.

The United States has essentially stopped trying to build a democratic order in Iraq, and is simply trying to gain stability and legitimacy.

The hawks who launched the Iraq war believed the deal-making exile when he promised to build a secular democracy with close ties to Israel. Now the Israel deal is dead, he's cozying up to Iran -- and his patrons look like they're on the way out.

“At best, Rangel’s bill merely plays into Bush’s hands,” said Galvin. “At worst, it’s a stealth measure intended to supply progressive political cover for pro-draft Democrats.”

U.S. Rebuffs Europe on Iran Nuke Talks...
"Dammit, Israel says, I mean, we wanna INVADE!" - M. R.

Iran is a much bigger oil producer than Iraq. The surge in prices might be greater this time.

After almost forty years of following US foreign policy -- which included the Cuban missile crisis and Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, the Iranian hostage crisis, Desert Storm I, Kosovo, and numerous other coups, proxy wars, and interventions around the World -- I still can't figure out what good any of this has been for the average American.

The Iraqi Ballot, Translated...

The downing of at least two US/UK aircraft in recent days over Iraq --with record-setting casualties-- means a de facto no fly zone has been declared by rebels equipped with surface-to-air missiles.

As the Middle East conflict burns on, more Europeans are turning against Israel. A growing number subscribe to the belief that the impasse between the Israelis and the Palestinians is the wellspring of much of the world's ills today , and that the blame for all this lies squarely with Israel - and by extension, with its staunchest ally, the United States.
Don't you mean its staunchest SLAVE?

Look how much this war is costing the US not only in money but in international prestige and influence. This nartion will be decades recovering from the damage resulting from this war, which even Bush's own advisors admit was fought for Israel.

Israel has to be blackmailing the leadership of the US to coerce this nation onto such an obviously self-destructive path. - M. R.

Instead of attempting to ensure that the votes were counted correctly, however, Alameda County election officials engaged in a "going through the motions" exercise where they merely ran the same electronic vote data through the same counting machines and, predictably, reached the same result. They did not consult the machines' audit logs, redundant memories, or any other relevant materials.

FLASHBACK: War Launched To Protect Israel - Bush Adviser...
"You know, we had to protect Israel from all those Iraqi weapons of mass destruction the Israeli ... spies..... in that ..... Penatgon Office .... ummm.... told us...." - M. R.

Iraqis hadn't been able to choose their leaders at all in recent decades, even by some strange process where they chose unknown leaders. But this process is not a model for anything, and would not willingly be imitated by anyone else in the region. The 1997 elections in Iran were much more democratic, as were the 2002 elections in Bahrain and Pakistan.

Well, when you have a man screaming about nuclear (excuse me, "nookular") weapons while invading countries that don't actually have them, it's going to worry people. - M. R.

There is a consensus that an attack on Iran would most likely be a very limited war "from space" in which selected targets would be bombed with long-range missiles, and that any possible military backlash would be countered by internal insurgency, in which the MEK would play a lead role.
This was the EXACT plan that led to the Bay of Pigs disaster. - M. R.

A U.S. military official said the plane's wreckage was scattered over a large area but had no immediate word on casualties.
"Large area" = "Came apart in the air".

Following so soon on the heels of the helicopter crash that took 31 US lives, it is clear that this is not weather. The people of Iraq have acquired the ability to shoot down our aircraft. Having already lost control of the roads, US control of the air is now in doubt. - M. R.

What can we say? The search for Iraq’s “weapons of mass destruction” has finally ended. None were found, of course. Even the hawks who insisted that Saddam Hussein had them aren’t demanding that we keep looking. President Bush, not missing a beat, says the war on Iraq was still justified — even though the very justification he insistently gave for it has been exploded. He now talks as if he’d never believed it himself. He probably didn’t.

Talk about your double standards! TIME can proclaim the threat of Russian spies in their magazine, but never a mention of Israeli spies? Everyone should write in to TIME and ask if those were Russian spies arrested while dancing and cheering the collapse of the World Trade Center. Ask TIME if those were Russian spies running the largest spy ring ever uncovered in the US, in the process of being arrested when 9-11 happened? Ask TIME of those were Russian "Art Students" caught penetrating US defense offices. Israel Border police to demolish Arab neighborhood in Jerusalem to protect fence...
Yes, indeed, protecting the fence is extremely important for Israeli security. In other places houses are 50 and 80 meters from the fence, but here, it was decided the safe distance would be 500 meter. No, this is absolutely and positively NOT about getting rid of the Palestinians in Jerusalem or confiscating their land. Hand on the bible. Old Testament. (But for the US fundamentalists, it can also be the New Testament. Whatever. Just remember, we are the believers, they are the heathens. The Koran is dreck.)

The article does not mention what will happen to the people whose houses will be demolished.

Since ancient Rome, imperial republics have invariably felt a tension between cherished republican practices at home and distinctly unrepublican ones abroad; or put another way, if imperial practices spread far enough beyond the republic's borders and gain enough traction out there in the imperium, sooner or later they also make the reverse journey home, and then you have a crisis in – or simply the destruction of – the republic itself.

Venezuela has hailed the visit of Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong as a productive trip that will yield several multi-billion trade deals, mainly in the oil and gas sectors.
Two attempted US-backed coups will convince anyone to sell their oil elsewhere. The long term ramifications are clear. The US used the availability of Venezualan oil to dismiss Arab nations' threats to reduce oil supplies. With less oil available to the US from Venezuela, the Arab nations can now severely harm the US by cutting off their oil as punishment for US blind obedience to Israel. With the economy so weak, and confidence in the dollar already sliding, a spike in oil prices could be the final death blow. Far from making the US strong, the Bush/neocon foreign policy has made the United States highly vulnerable. - M. R.

General John Abizaid, America's senior military commander in the Middle East, has admitted that suicide bombers are likely to penetrate polling stations during today's Iraqi elections, despite unprecedented security measures.

The devices were not faulty, and fire department officials don't have a clear explanation for the initial high readings. Nor was there a fire, though firefighters still don't know why some people reported smelling smoke near the office.

A new report published by Human Rights Watch, “The New Iraq? Torture and Ill-treatment of Detainees in Iraqi Custody,” documents the systematic torture of prisoners in the hands of Iraqi police. As the headline of the report suggests, it questions whether the new force set up and trained by American advisers (including, among others, former New York City police chief Bernard Kerik) represents a significant change from the methods which prevailed under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein.

"We have to know which targets to attack and how to attack them," said one, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Heavy Gunbattle Heard in Baghdad...

It is time Jews recognize that the old strategies no longer work. Jewish organizations and advocates of Israel fail to grasp that they are no longer viewed as the voice of the disenfranchised. Rather, they are seen as a global Goliath, close to the seats of power and capable of influencing policies and damaging reputations. As such, their efforts to raise the alarm increasingly appear as bullying.

"Instead of talking about how the hell we get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, we are talking about going into Iran. Here we are headed for absolute disaster, yet the American public has no weapons left, legally. If an American citizen were really in trouble - I ask in all seriousness - to whom would he turn? He can't go to his Congressman, because he's helping out GM or whoever paid for his election. He can't turn to the executive branch, because they now run concentration camps and don't like dissent. The courts are pretty expensive and the higher courts are, shall we say, not on our side."

It is now known that at least three mainstream media personalities have been taking payola from the Bush administration, cash amounts of up to $240,000 to promote the government's agendas as "objective" news stories.

There is nothing new with the mainstream media lying to the public. The CIA has used the media to lie to the American people for decades. And, as a recent lawsuit against FOX News underscored, there is no law requiring the mainstream media to tell the truth.Indeed, the result of this lawsuit was the legal precedent that the mainstream media can fire any reporter for refusing to lie to the public!

So, looking back at the recent mainstream media attempts to bash the blogs, it is time to ask, who really does have credibility, and who does not. - M. R.

George Bush was reinaugurated in Washington last week. Fittingly, the inauguration parade route was lined the entire way with armed guards — so many armed guards that they had to stand shoulder-to-shoulder. As with the rest of America, Washington, D.C. was in a state of siege. The militant air of the entire affair was very much like a parade in the old Soviet Union or even in Nazi Germany.

Bush sold his tax cuts for the wealthy with the promise that the wealthy would use the extra cash to create new jobs. The projected job creation was never achieved. This raises the possability that Bush's tax cuts have actually moved the money off shore. - M. R.

Unusual events "unheard of in the history of seismology" have been recorded in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, with more than 120 such events being recorded in the last one month, according to seismologists.

As one who himself lived through the Holocaust, first in Warsaw then in Bergen-Belsen, I will give an immediate example of the total ignorance of daily life during the Holocaust.

FLASHBACK: Computer disk drives from WTC could yield clues...
Moments before the planes crashed into the WTC, unknown parties sent in computer instructions for massive financial transfers. The computers recording those transactions were destroyed in the collapse, erasing the records. In effect, someone had "borrowed" millions of dollars, then erased the bill. Then a company in Germany, using a new laser technique, started reading the drives recovered frm the WTC, to find out just who had had this advance knowledge of the 9-11 attacks.

Then something mysterious happened. The company was purchased, and the project to read the recovered drives was halted. - M. R.

A Londonder made a tsnuami-relief donation using lynx -- a text-based browser used by the blind, Unix-users and others -- on Sun's Solaris operating system. The site-operator decided that this "unusual" event in the system log indicated a hack-attempt, and the police broke down the donor's door and arrested him.

They say communications are going to be cut off very soon. Telephones are often cut off and the mobile network is sometimes inaccessible for days at a time but we heard there also might not be web access. Students have a mid-year vacation right now but no one is going anywhere. Almost everyone is trapped at home because the security situation is quite bad and no one wants to be caught in an area where an explosion might occur. If the bomb doesn't kill you, the Iraqi security forces or the Americans might and if no one kills you then you risk getting a bag over the head and a trip to Abu Ghraib.

A CIA report predicts that American global dominance could end in 15 years....
Cost for the CIA to tell you this: $20,000,000.

Gold Star Families for Peace....

I am one of the founding members of a group called Gold Star Families for Peace. Some of us families who have lost loved ones in this illegal and immoral war in Iraq have organized to use our collective voices to bring the tragedy of war to the fore front of America’s hearts and souls like it so tragically is in ours. We families are amazed that so few of our fellow citizens are touched by the horrors of the invasion and occupation of a sovereign country.

Growing number of soldiers oppose -- and refuse to report for -- the war in Iraq

Third columnist caught with hand in the Bush till...
This is why we call them presstitutes.

On a more serious note, it has been obvious in recent weeks that the mainstream media has tried to attack the credibility of the blogs. With the revelation that so many mainstream media "talking heads" are in the pay of the government, it is the mainstream media's credibility which lies in ruins, blended with the ashes of the claims about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. - M. R.

It seems clear now that the disclosure that two syndicated right-wing columnists were paid shills of the Bush administration posing as journalists is really just the tip of a grimy iceberg.
As of this writing, a third journalist has been exposed for taking money from the Bush administration to lie to the public. - M. R.

What Really Happened knows more than CNN. Osama is dead. - M. R.

Israelis have targeted ISMers for assassination. An Israeli sniper shot Tom Hurndall. "Accident," the murderer said. An American-made bulldozer from Caterpillar in Peoria slaughtered Rachel Corrie. Both of them died just days before I returned to the Middle East in 2003 to enter Baghdad and see the latest handiwork of the American imperium.

Beslan's increasingly restless residents were told yesterday that high-ranking Russian military officers who "were still at their posts" were suspected of helping Chechen militants seize the town's school last September.
Do you get it yet? GOVERNMENTS STAGE TERROR ATTACKS ON THEIR OWN PEOPLE TO TRICK THEIR PEOPLE INTO SUPPORTING AN AGENDA.

When more than 200,000 people died in a tsunami caused by an Asian earthquake in December, the immediate reaction in the United States was an outpouring of grief and philanthropy, prompted by extensive coverage in the news media. Two months earlier, the reaction in the United States to news of another large-scale human tragedy was much quieter. In late October, a study was published in The Lancet, a prestigious British medical journal, concluding that about 100,000 civilians had been killed in Iraq since it was invaded by a United States-led coalition in March 2003. On the eve of a contentious presidential election -- fought in part over U.S. policy on Iraq -- many American newspapers and television news programs ignored the study or buried reports about it far from the top headlines.
The media will denounce an act of God, but dare not speak ill of the President! - M. R.

So I again asked him if he would tell me if he knew whether the will of the people was in favor of, or against, voting for the confirmation of Condi Rice. He told me that the constituent input that the Senator's office received; that the people were strongly in favor of voting against her confirmation. Of course Senator Santorum voted in favor of her confirmation.

They witnessed soldiers blown to bits and mourned the loss of others who killed themselves when they returned home -- often excluded from the government's official body count.
