Officials from six major oil companies have refused to testify this week at a Senate hearing looking into whether oil industry mergers in recent years have made gasoline more expensive at the pump.

Some Palestinians see the demands as a rejection of a democratic election and as siding with Israel. Others see hypocrisy. They say Israeli soldiers killed twice as many Palestinians last week alone - both of them children - as the number of Israelis killed by Hamas all last year.

AG Gonzales lied during his confirmation hearings...

Sen. Russell Feingold (D-Wis.) charged yesterday that Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales misled the Senate during his confirmation hearing a year ago when he appeared to try to avoid answering a question about whether the president could authorize warrantless wiretapping of U.S. citizens.

I decided to look at some polling numbers on the Alito nomination and the Supreme Court, hoping that the exercise might shed some light on why many Democrats won’t show any spine in blocking Bush’s ultraconservative nominee.

What I found left me even more perplexed and angry.

Iraqi money gambled away in the Philippines. Thousands spent on a swimming pool that was never used. An elevator repaired so poorly that it crashed, killing people.

A U.S. government audit found American-led occupation authorities squandered tens of millions of dollars that were supposed to be used to rebuild Iraq through undocumented spending and outright fraud.

Larry Franklin the spy for AIPAC in the DOD had his trial on Jan 3d and he got 12 years in jail, which means he had to have made a plea bargain, because you get 20-40 or death for spying. The OSP wants to go to war with Iran before April because the trials from Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman are in April. Congress is voting on a nuclear option which is scary. They want to nuke a non-nuclear country.

They were loyal conservatives, and Bush appointees. They fought a quiet battle to rein in the president's power in the war on terror. And they paid a price for it.

It's important to be smart about national security at home, but we achieve nothing unless we get smarter about our diplomatic achievements that undo the "root cause" problem abroad. This ad does little to get America back on to a "smart security track".

Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM.N: Quote, Profile, Research), the world's largest publicly traded oil company, on Monday reported a quarterly profit of more than $10 billion, capping a record year dominated by a surge oil and gas prices.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi told reporters during his weekly press conference, “I think that it would be good if Mr. Blair takes part in the seminar on the Holocaust in Tehran. Of course, he can make the case in support of the Holocaust and at the same time hear the points of views that he cannot listen to there”.

We are now learning what President Bush considers to be the limits of his power -- nothing.

The hallmark of the worldwide detainee and torture camps is defined by repeated examples whereby proven top Al-Qaeda members are protected or released while completely innocent individuals are imprisoned for no reason and tortured.

Mssrs. Bush and Cheney lied to Congress and the American people in order to invade Iraq. Thousands of American servicemen and mercenaries have died in this military action against Iraq. Many times that amount of innocent foreigners have died as well. By needlessly casting the US in the role of an aggressor nation, which has already caused the death of thousands of innocent US military personnel, Mssrs. Bush and Cheney have committed treason. This demonstrates that they are nothing more than war criminals like Hitler and Stalin.

Oilfield services conglomerate Halliburton Co. swung to a profit in its fourth quarter on robust sales and increased rig activity, and called last year the best in its 86-year history.

While I do not know, as of this writing, whether Democrats will muster a filibuster of the Alito nomination, I have no doubt that this vote will follow senators around, for good or for ill, for the rest of their lives, in the same way that Colin Powell’s infamous powdered-sugar presentation to the UN will follow him to the grave -- and for similar reasons. When Alito gets in, things are going to change. Our whole way of life, in fact. The New York Times seems to have realized this at the eleventh hour, for whatever mysterious but welcome reason.

On January 1, Congress allowed two tax breaks that benefit the wealthy to become effective. The cuts eliminated current provisions of the tax code that limits the amount of personal exemptions and itemized deductions that Americans with high incomes can take. Over the course of the next five years the tax cuts will cost approximately $27 billion, according to a study by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Ironically, Republicans in Congress, only two weeks before the cuts took effect, voted to reduce domestic spending on programs affecting the poor and the middle class by $39 billion over the next five years.

March 18 & 19, 2006 will mark the third anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. The Troops Out Now Coalition calls on the entire antiwar community at the local and national level to rise above anything that would hinder the unity that the world and history demands of us. Together we must grasp the opportunity to help transform the turning tide against the war into a human tidal wave of antiwar resistance in the streets.

ndeed, it was this terror funding of Israeli far right militiamen that tripped Abramoff up, since the FBI discovered that he had misled Indian tribes into giving money to the Jabotinskyites, and then began wondering if he had defrauded the tribes in other ways. (You betcha!) The Indian leaders were furious when they discovered they had been used to oppress another dispossessed indigenous people, the Palestinians, calling it "Outer Limits bizarre" and saying that they would never have willingly given money to such a cause.

A bit over a week ago, President Bush and his men promised to provide the legal, constitutional and moral justifications for the sort of warrantless spying on Americans that has been illegal for nearly 30 years. Instead, we got the familiar mix of political spin, clumsy historical misinformation, contemptuous dismissals of civil liberties concerns, cynical attempts to paint dissents as anti-American and pro-terrorist, and a couple of big, dangerous lies.

God damn that democracy. What are we to do with people who don't vote the way they should?

Only bimbos believed Bush when he said it was WMD's that made him attack, invade, occupy and massacre Iraq. Most of us thought it was to steal Iraq's oil, but we were only partly right. What totally terrorized the tyrannical Texan tycoon was when Saddam played the oil bourse card in November, 2000. When Saddam started selling Iraqi oil in euro's, he jeopardized greenback hegemony as the world's supreme foreign exchange transaction currency. If this brilliant idea catches on, it will trigger the total collapse of the USA economy. The oil grab is a sideshow. The main feature is the oil bourse.

I was so pleased with the way you responded to that treacherous Washpo ombudsman. I'm loving the articles and the blogs and the words of support for me and all of the others that I am seeing everywhere. I am loving the tireless agents of various law enforcement agencies and the various departments of investigation; the Patrick Fitzgerald's and the growing army of the convinced that are climbing into the arena without fear to expose and clean up this awful stinking mess. I don't know what we are going to find at the end of it; possibly high walls of wire and concertina rolls, maybe a world burned alkaline white and possibly a great and lasting victory. I don't know but at least we fucking tried. At least we tried.

According to reports in The Mail on Sunday, the Prime Minister and the US President decided to go to war regardless of whether they obtained UN backing. The allegations will undermine claims that the final decision to go to war was not made until MPs voted in the Commons a day before military action. It will also bolster claims that the President and Mr Blair decided to go to war months before military action began.

At a party rally in Sardinia on Saturday, the media tycoon received the blessing of television preacher Massimiliano Pusceddu, who thanked him for opposing gay marriage and defending family values.

"Thank you dear Father Massimiliano, I'll try not to let you down and I promise you two and a half months of complete sexual abstinence until April 9," Berlusconi replied, in comments reported on Sunday by the daily Il Giornale.

"Arbeit Meicht Frie" was written at the entrance of Auschwitz and other Nazi concentration camps. In spray painting on that sign we did not mean to say that Ramallah is Auschwitz. We did, however, wish to point out that there are many disturbing parallels between the tactics used by the occupation and those used by the Nazis. For example, the attempt to beautify dehumanizing institutions through empty phrases like "The Hope of Us All" and "Arbeit Macht Frie". We believe that it is important to heed these disturbing parallels as warning signals in order for another Holocaust never to happen again, to any people.

I wonder why the CEO of Halliburton has very busy exercising his stock options in Halliburton? Since 10/27/05 he has sold 380,981 shares of stock for a total of $25,230,000.00 (an average of $66.22 per share). What ever could he be thinking?

Lobbyist Jack Abramoff gave his client Tyco International an early warning in 2003 that the government was about to suspend Tyco's federal contracts -- inside information he received from a General Services Administration official now under indictment, federal prosecutors alleged yesterday.

That day, as part of MSNBC’s breaking coverage, Hardball’s Chris Matthews said, “I’m not sure it’s partisan. I’m not sure that people are going to see him as part of any Republican culture of corruption. I think [Rep. Randy] Duke Cunningham [R-CA] also was sort of a lone wolf in that department. I think we’re gonna see this case, basically––What’s the right word? ––It’s gonna be kept to itself. It’s not going to be part of a larger story of Washington this year, I think.”

But Matthews himself had his own ties to Abramoff—a symptom of how deep the scandal goes, and why it may be difficult for the public to get the full story.

I am going to repeat a question I asked almost a year ago. Is Jack Abramoff an agent for Israel? Is his ability to blow open the spy scandal and its links to 9-11 the reason so many people in government AND THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA are trying to protect him? - M. R.

This careful judge of what it means to be an "honorable public servant" had reason to prefer the Bush administration's taste in appointees. After the 2000 election, Abramoff was named to the Bush transition team for the Interior Department, which regulates the Indian casinos that paid Abramoff his inflated fees.

News stories immediately preceding 9/11:

Once the crew had determined that Jonah, a passenger, was the jinx, they threw him overboard and—Lo!—the storm abated. The three days and nights he subsequently spent in the belly of a nauseous whale must have seemed like a serious jinx to the digestion-challenged whale who extruded him much as the decent opinion of mankind has done to Bush.

The naval attache of the US Embassy in Venezuela, John Correa, has left the country after his participation in an espionage case involving several Venezuelan low-ranking officers was revealed.

The word itself is cringe-inducing: inquisition.

Put a historical and religious spin on it, and it yields a reign of terror that lasted for more than 600 years, a campaign by the Roman Catholic Church of enforced orthodoxy that let loose persecution, dread and death on untold thousands accused of heresy.

Those lucky enough to have escaped being burned or boiled alive were nonetheless ruined through imprisonment and confiscation of property. Whole populations were driven from their homelands in the name of piety and purity.

The Inquisition — not limited to Spain as many might believe — was horrible and cruel and shatteringly un-Christian. It earned the Catholic Church a black eye that is remembered to this day.

What emerges with clarity from the weeks since the National Security Agency domestic surveillance program was made public is that this administration is single-mindedly devoted to increasing the power of the government, and more specifically of the executive branch, and has used the 9/11 attack and the subsequent "war on terror" to justify this goal.

9/10/01 : ON THE EVE OF DESTRUCTION...

Look, I know NBC News and Russert would much prefer to debate hoary charges against me rather than the real issues at hand. So let me remind them what those issues are.

Two FEMA disaster assistance employees working in New Orleans were arrested yesterday on federal bribery charges, accused of accepting $10,000 each in exchange for letting a contractor submit inflated reports on the number of meals it was serving at a Hurricane Katrina relief base camp there.

Last fall, Brigham Young University physics professor Steven E. Jones made headlines when he charged that the World Trade Center collapsed because of "pre-positioned explosives." Now, along with a group that calls itself "Scholars for 9/11 Truth," he's upping the ante.

Americans need desperately to comprehend that if Bush attacks Iran and Syria, as he intends, terrorism will explode, and American civil liberties will disappear into a thirty-year war that will bankrupt the United States.

The total lack of rationality and competence in the White House and the inability of half of the US population to acquire and understand information are far larger threats to Americans than terrorism.

America has become a rogue nation, flying blind, guided only by ignorance and hubris. A terrible catastrophe awaits

And it left them with a simmering rage -- and paranoia from being spied upon -- that exploded on the streets of Miami earlier this month when one of its members allegedly attacked a photojournalist, landing the activist in jail. The incident revealed the untold price of domestic surveillance: that people who feel they are being spied upon are liable to turn on each other.
Which is what the government WANTS: a population so afraid of being spied on they cannot function together as a unit to achieve change.

So, fuck fear (there's a new T-shirt) and work harder for peace, and to bring down the corrupt. If you are afraid to speak out, then they have won. - M. R.

Many Americans view the bribing of lawmakers by lobbyists in Washington as business as usual, and public disapproval of Congress is at a 10-year high, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll.

From 1971 to 1981 John Perkins worked as a chief economist for Chas. T. Main, a Massachusetts-based international strategic consulting firm. During this time Mr. Perkins said his job was to trick developing countries into taking enormous loans from the World Bank in order to construct or repair their domestic infrastructure. These loans were given with the understanding that these countries would then use those loans to pay U.S. corporations to complete these constructing and engineering projects.

According to former State Department counter-terrorism official Larry Johnson, "the Israelis are their own worst enemies when it comes to fighting terrorism... The Israelis are like a guy who sets fire to his hair and then tries to put it out by hitting it with a hammer... they do more to incite and sustain terrorism than curb it."

Virtually nothing remains of the European elites’ would-be opposition to the aggression on Iraq and the US imperial re-design of the world -- only that Chirac tries to cry even louder than his masters in Washington knowing well that an attack for “regime chance” will need the superior US war machine. This verbal brinkmanship should cover up for the fact that they tail the US crusade against the next “rogue state” in the visor. And also chancellor Merkel made it clear in her inaugural visit to Washington that Germany will participate in the war drive against Persia.

The investigation of Jack Abramoff, the disgraced Republican lobbyist, took a surprising new turn on Thursday when the Justice Department said the chief prosecutor in the inquiry would step down next week because he had been nominated to a federal judgeship by President Bush.

For GOP voters, the 2004 presidential election was little short of miraculous: Behind in the Electoral College even on the afternoon of the vote, the Bush-Cheney ticket staged a stunning comeback. Usually reliable exit polls turned out to be wrong by an unprecedented 5 percent in swing states. Conservatives argued, and the media agreed, that "moral values" had made the difference.

In his latest book, Fooled Again: How The Right Stole The 2004 Election, And Why They'll Steal The Next One Too (Unless We Stop Them), Mark Crispin Miller argues that it wasn't moral values which swung the election -- it was theft.

What matters for an understanding of the Israel/Palestine conflict is what the expression 'a Jewish state' would mean to any reasonable person. What, in particular, could the Palestinians reasonably expect when they heard that such a state was to be established in Palestine?

A Jewish state is simply a state where Jews are firmly in control and where that much is recognized. Within its borders, Jews hold the power of life and death over Jews and non-Jews alike. That is the true meaning of the Zionist project.

Amid all the howls of pain and gnashing of teeth over the triumph of Hamas in the Palestinian elections, one fact remains relatively obscure, albeit highly relevant: Israel did much to launch Hamas as an effective force in the occupied territories. President George W. Bush said on Wednesday he took Osama bin Laden's threats of another attack seriously and invoked the al Qaeda leader's recent audiotape to defend a domestic eavesdropping program.

Now I'm not picking on the president in particular (not me! ;-) ), but my point is, why is threatening some people apparently OK and goes without any punishment whatsoever, while threatening other people is an automatic felony?

'Suicide Seeds' Could Spell Death of Peasant Agriculture, UN Meeting Told...
This is one of the most dangerous products to be created. The intention is to force farmers to use GM seeds because the new genetics-marked pesticides won;t work with natural crops. The seeds produced by the GM crops will not germinate, forcing the farmers to always have to buy new seeds every year. All well and good, except that it is already well established that the artificial genes from plants spread well beyond the original garden, carried by wind, insects, and birds. In one infamous case in Canada, Monsanto dues a farmer downwind of one of their GM fields for "Patent infringement" when he discovered his natural organic crops had become contaminated with genetically modified pollen from the Monsanto crop.

So, what happens when the "suicide" gene, the gene that renders all subsequent generations of seed unable to germinate, escapes the original product and heads into the wild? All natural plants that became contaminated with that gene would go extinct within just a few generations. For food crops, this means that all farmers would eventually be forced to purchase GM seeds because their natural food crops would die out. For wild plants, it means starvation for all life forms dependent on those plants. - M. R.

Will Israel Pull America Into Another Quagmire In Iran?...

Will the Real Daryl Bradford Smith Please Stand Up...
Normally I don't get involved in the rivalries that occur between the various personalities. However I feel the need to correct a statement attributed to me in this article.

I did not "dump" Jack Blood, or anyone else. Both with Jack Blood, and with Alex Jones, I told them I could no longer guarantee a regular schedule of call-ins owing to increasing time pressures from my "day job". Even the regular Thursday KKCR phone call has been canceled on short notice in recent weeks. In all cases, my withdrawal from radio appearances is based purely on my time conflicts and does not represent any kind of quality judgment on the radio hosts involved.

Am very alarmed that this situation seems to be misrepresented. I do not know who has misrepresented the matter and I do not care to speculate, but the claim that I "dumped" anyone is absurd.

I wish to make it clear, I am not taking a side in this debate. I do not yet know who is being honest and who is "exaggerating". I will be checking the claims made in this article, but by starting off with such an obvious mischaracterization of me, it is clear that someone, somewhere, is telling a whopper. - M. R.

The U.S. military's ground forces are so stretched by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that potential adversaries may be tempted to challenge the United States, a group headed by former U.S. Defense Secretary William Perry said on Wednesday.

In 2004, when 8 Israeli children were killed and 179 Palestinian children were killed, NBC reported on 100% of Israeli children’s deaths and on 10% of Palestinian children’s deaths, ABC on 100% and 11%.

The radical Islamic group Hamas claimed victory Thursday in voting for the first Palestinian parliament in a decade, saying it won a clear majority of seats and had the right to form the next government.

The claims, although officially unconfirmed, were followed by the resignation of Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia and the rest of his cabinet. Resignation was a formality following parliamentary elections, but Qureia acknowledged that Hamas had likely won a majority in the 132-seat legislature and should be given the opportunity to form the next cabinet.

Israel now has the hostile Palestinain government it needs to justify further repressionist policies.

Too bad the Palestinians don't know HAMAS really works for Israel. - M. R.

Residents of the unrecognized villages - Israeli citizens - cannot build their houses legally, lacking any government planning policy in their villages and the government even acknowledges that this "illegal" building is done out of necessity. Nevertheless home demolitions are carried out in order to make the population abandon the land and force them into the government established 'concentration towns' to vacate the lands for Jewish settlements. The townships however are unable to absorb the entire population of the unrecognized villages.

In just one more story which illustrates the many undemocratic dangers of allowing private companies to "own" our public elections, Diebold, Inc., one of America's largest Voting Machine Companies is currently blocking citizens in Alaska from viewing election data from the 2004 general election!

In its legal analysis, the Justice Department added, “The president has made clear that he will exercise all authority available to him, consistent with the Constitution, to protect the people of the United States.” While the phrase “consistent with the Constitution” sounds reassuring to many Americans, what it means in this case is that Bush believes he has unlimited powers as Commander in Chief to do whatever he deems necessary in the War on Terror.

Since the War on Terror is a vague concept – unlike other wars the United States has fought – there also is no expectation that Bush’s usurpation of traditional American freedoms is just a short-term necessity. Instead it is a framework for future governance.

When my wife’s favorite aunt died last November we immediately made plans to head for St. Louis for the funeral.

We drove the 700 miles to St. Louis. I am not allowed to fly on an airplane within the United States because the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration consider me a threat to the security of the United States.

It's possible that a spy could believe he's helping his country by spying on behalf of a foreign power: after all, during the Cold War era, American agents of the Soviet Union doubtless believed they were helping to build a better world (and, by implication, a better America) in funneling U.S. secrets to Moscow. In short, their intentions were "good." But so what? That didn't stop prosecutors from throwing the book at them: the Rosenbergs fried – and justice was done.
This article misses the real meat of the Franklin scandal. Larry Franklin worked inside the Pentagon Office of Special Projects, the very office from which many now-discredited claims about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction were coming. Because of the Niger documents, we know that at least some of that documentation was deliberately forged. So, the real question of the Franklin/AIPAC spy case is not what information Franklin gave to Israel, but what DISinformation was sent from Israel through AIPAC to Larry, to manufacture a case for the unjustified invasion of Iraq! - M. R.

That deafening silence emanating from the Ensenada Port Authority, in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, about the container ship APL Panama grounding is the unmistakable sound of a media blackout. Nobody who knows anything is talking, and when they do the things that they say are limited. So far little official information has been provided, and officials have certainly not offered any explanation about how this wreck could have occurred. A larger area of the beach has now been cordoned off, which effectively keeps out observers.

Bolton is Bush's unconfirmed ambassador to the United Nations. Bolton, a neoconservative warmonger, has managed to get the UN Security Council on Jan. 23 to instruct Syria to disband and disarm the Lebanese militias. Bolton says, "I hope in Damascus they read it very carefully and then comply."
Only problem, LAST year the US ordered Syria out of Lebanon entirely, and Syria LEFT! - M. R.

In short, if Bush does not confront Iran on the nuclear issue with sanctions or air strikes, he may find himself confronted by Israelis and their U.S. auxiliaries. Hearken to Hillary Clinton:

"I don't believe you face threats like Iran and North Korea by outsourcing it to others and standing on the sidelines. But let's be clear about the threat we face now: A nuclear Iran is a danger to Israel, to its neighbors and beyond."

Hillary is saying that if George Bush does not confront Iran, he is open to the charge of leaving Israel to face a nuclear attack by a regime that has threatened to wipe Israel off the map. Political hardball.

Over to you, Mr. President.

Ignoring a couple facts here such as that nobody has yet proven that Iran has any weapons of mass destruction. They have a power station. Israel, on the other hand, does have weapons of mass destruction, more than adequate to deter an attack by Iran.

And in any event, could someone please explain why if Israel cannot get along with Iraq, and Israel cannot get along with Syria, and Israel cannot get along with Iran, and Israel cannot get along with, well, pretty much everyone, why is that a problem for which American lives (excluding the children of the pro-Israel politicians, I notice) should be sacrificed? - M. R.

The U.S. Constitution mandates a separation of church and state; that is to say, there can be no establishment of any single religion as the official creed of the U.S. government. The Judaics managed to get around this through the "Holocaust". By pretending that the "Holocaust" is history, they turn what is actually a synagogue into a "holocaust museum."

This is the case in Washington D.C. where President Ronald Reagan -- the American leader who urged Saddam Hussein to wipe out the Islamic Republic of Iran -- instituted the "U.S. Holocaust Museum" on federal property. But this "museum" does not adhere to rules of evidence and does not submit its exhibits to critical inquiry and investigation.
