MySpace Censoring Ron Paul Supporters *WATCH IN FULL SCREEN*...

Some U.S. officials acknowledged that damage may have been done by the postings and used expletives to describe their personal reactions. Still, they downplayed the overall risk.

Bush thumping his chest: “I am the President!”...
Subtract the chest thumping and you have Richard Nixon all over again. - M. R.

Why I am Ashamed to be an American...

The Internal Revenue Service warned computer users not to fall for phony e-mails that scare people into believing they are under tax investigation -- then give scammers access to their computer hard drives.

n a statement issued through the CDC, Cooksey also said that neither he nor his CDC laboratory was the source of the TB bacteria that infected his son-in-law.
Odd that they feel the need to issue such a denial! - M. R.

Future terror targets = Past terror targets-how much terrorism insurance did Silverstein take out on his new buildings?...

Al Hurra television, the U.S. government's $63 million-a-year effort at public diplomacy broadcasting in the Middle East, is run by executives and officials who cannot speak Arabic, according to a senior official who oversees the program.

That might explain why critics say the service has recently been caught broadcasting terrorist messages, including an hour-long tirade on the importance of anti-Jewish violence, among other questionable pieces.

Your tax dollars at work. - M. R.

These regular mailings from the Israel Project to “opinion agents” such as yours truly are, in effect, a public relations campaign for war. The monthly missives I receive from this one pro-Israel lobby are a small part of a broader effort to “secure the information stream” and prep Americans for the next exotic stop in the war on terror: sunny Iran. Now to the average shmoe, even contemplating another war while the overtaxed U.S. military machine seems bogged down in Iraq and losing ground in Afghanistan might seem laughably disconnected from reality.

But see, average schmoe, you lack the long-term vision and patience of the folks at the Israel Project and their fellow travelers at, say, the New American Century Project or the vice president’s office. This proposed Iranian bloodletting was penciled in years ago by the war-mongering proponents of the Pax Americana. Now it’s time to hard-schedule the main event.

You had a chance. You could have put your money where your mouth is--could have put some ass behind all those claims of "favoring an end to war."

And you fucking choked.

A globe-trotting Atlanta lawyer with a dangerous strain of tuberculosis was allowed back into the U.S. by a border inspector who disregarded a computer warning to stop him and don protective gear, officials said Thursday.
Swell. - M. R.

Dell Inc. said Thursday that earnings fell slightly in preliminary first-quarter results, but the computer maker planned to lay off more than 8,000 employees over the next year as part of an ongoing restructuring.

The US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has been slapped with criminal charges in Nigeria over a notorious clinical trial it conducted on children during a meningitis epidemic a decade ago. Patients became unwitting guinea pigs for a new, untested antibiotic and many of them either died or were left with permanent disabilities.

Pfizer and its representatives will be called to account at hearings due to begin next month in the Nigerian state of Kano, where public anger over the clinical trial - and the assurances of any pharmaceutical company - remains so high that the local population won't even trust the Nigerian government to immunise their children against polio.

The episode, which has already led to one unsuccessful suit in the US courts, was the inspiration for John Le Carre's novel The Constant Gardener and is frequently held up as an instance of scientific inquiry gone shockingly awry.

After turning 18 last month, the Post Falls teenager began strapping a loaded 9 mm Glock 19 handgun to his belt every day. He totes it in full view to Bible studies, the public library, city parks and neighborhood stores and on walks around town.

His 15-year-old brother, Stephen, has joined him, carrying a loaded Ruger .22-caliber rifle slung over his shoulder.

The brothers, who are home-schooled, say they're flexing their Second Amendment right, which allows citizens to bear arms. They say they're protecting themselves and others, deterring crime and making a statement about constitutional freedoms.

"Our job is to prepare for an all-out war," Col. Hilik Sofer, head of the Home Front Command Population Division, told The Jerusalem Post Wednesday. "We prepare for a wide range of possibilities since it doesn't make a difference where the threat comes from."
So, this campaign is going to start "within a few weeks".

You have to wonder what the Vegas odds are for precisely when Israel will be launching its next pre-emptive war, and against whom, to start with.

Only one thing is rock-solid certain, though: Bush has pledged the the US will support Israel militarily, no matter whether or not it starts a confrontation. - M. R.

Though the book will undoubtedly ruffle the feathers of the politically correct, anyone with reasonably thick skin and a sense of humor would be challenged to make it all the way through "My Holocaust" without laughing out loud. But like most intelligent humor, its real merit comes from its social commentary. Reich's intent is not to be glib about the Holocaust, but rather to pillory those who've profaned its memory for their own purposes.

Named U.S. attorney for Minnesota in 1991, he won a series of high-profile white-collar crime and gun and explosives cases. By the time Heffelfinger resigned last year, his office had collected a string of awards and commendations from the Justice Department.

So it came as a surprise — and something of a mystery — when he turned up on a list of U.S. attorneys who had been targeted for firing.

Part of the reason, government documents and other evidence suggest, is that he tried to protect voting rights for Native Americans.

WNBC has obtained the transcript of Giuliani's appearance with Jennings, from the Giuliani 2008 campaign. This is the verbatim of the issue in question:

On Memorial Day, the 32-year-old Church and 1st Lt. Keith N. Heidtman, 24, also from Schofield, were killed when their OH-58D Kiowa helicopter crashed after receiving heavy enemy fire in Diyala province northeast of Baghdad — one of the most volatile areas of Iraq.

Rebels killed in clashes with Iranian forces this week had recently infiltrated border areas of the Islamic Republic carrying U.S.-made arms, an Iranian commander was quoted as saying on Thursday.

CNW's 'Dust to Dust' Automotive Energy Report...
There are lots of sincere folk out there who buy hybrid vehicles thinking that they are doing something positive to "save the planet" but are they? Here is a most interesting website that has a list of cars based on their "dust to dust" energy use. That is, how much energy (expressed in US dollars) a vehicle uses per mile over its entire useful life: how much energy to manufacture and ship to point of sale plus how much energy it uses over its useful life plus how much energy it takes to recycle. As you can see, hybrids are just below or over $3.00 per mile where many cars that aren't generally considered "green" are much lower. This is partly because hybrid cars contain lots of electronics and batteries which take a lot of energy to manufacture and recycle. - M. R.

The economy nearly stalled in the first quarter with growth slowing to a pace of just 0.6 percent. That was the worst three-month showing in over four years.

The new reading on the gross domestic product, released by the Commerce Department Thursday, showed that economic growth in the January-through-March quarter was much weaker. Government statisticians slashed by more than half their first estimate of a 1.3 percent growth rate for the quarter.

As the Bush administration completes secret new rules governing interrogations, a group of experts advising the intelligence agencies argues that the harsh techniques used since the 2001 terrorist attacks are outmoded, amateurish and unreliable.

“Today in Israel, there is no effective barrier – not legal and certainly not ethical – that stands in the way of using torture," PCATI continues. "A secret service organization such as the GSS (Shin Bet) decides independently to use torture and, afterwards, investigates itself as to whether the use of interrogation was justified.

PCATI director Hannah Friedman warns Israel, “A state that views itself as a democracy committed to the protection of human rights cannot allow torture that is derived from the darkness of the Middle Ages.”

A 'democracy' that tortures: figure it out for yourselves, folks. - M. R.

Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution states: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion."

With estimates exceeding 20 million illegal aliens within the United States and one million more invading annually across our southern border, our president and Congress do not enforce several foundation laws set forth in the Constitution. Illegal alien migration is a federal crime. Our national leaders break our rule of law by their daily denial and dereliction of these laws.

President Bush envisions a long-term U.S. troop presence in Iraq similar to the one in South Korea where American forces have helped keep an uneasy peace for more than 50 years, the White House said Wednesday.
"Or until the oil runs out or Israel stops blackmailing us to whup their enemies; whichever comes first." - M. R.

Calling the State Department’s recent talks with Iran and Syria “fantasy diplomatic solutions,” Kristol and Kagan instead advocate that “[d]iplomatic engagement by itself is a trap,” suggesting, as they both have before, that America should only deal militarily with Iraq’s neighbors. Such a policy would likely accelerate nuclear development in Iran and has been swiftly rejected by top U.S. military commanders.

Kristol and Kagan aim for a single objective: more war. As Glenn Greenwald noted, “What they [Kristol and Kagan] seek — by their own acknowledgment — is a conflict with Iran and Syria, and they want to stay in Iraq because that is how that goal can be achieved.”

One has to wonder how many of their family members are currently serving anywhere in the US armed forces.

My bet would be, absolutely none. - M. R.

He couldn’t have foreseen that one e-mail could derail his career and put him on his way out of the Army. One e-mail, speculating about events that millions of people have questioned for the last six years, was all it took.

“Who really benefited from what happened that day?” he asked rhetorically. Not “Arabs,” but “the Military Industrial Complex,” Buswell concluded. “We must demand a new, independent investigation.”

For voicing those opinions in an e-mail to 38 people on the San Antonio Army base, Buswell was stripped of his security clearance, fired from his job, demoted, and ordered to undergo a mental health exam.

As if all that weren’t enough, Fort Sam Houston’s chief of staff penned a letter accusing Buswell of “making statements disloyal to the United States.”

Although built on the more secure Windows Server 2003 platform and including new features such as User Account Control to prevent some automatic infections, the new OS shows "little or no security gains" compared to its five-year-old predecessor Windows XP.

The problem is that racist, fascist bigotry has become the accepted, no comment doctrine of America. Hard to believe? It was a rather bitter morsel for me to swallow too. If our sick and dying brave heroes of 9/11 had not proven it, I would be in disbelief.

“The world keeps turning and so does the fighting in Iraq. Yesterday, my soldier and friend was shot and killed. He is the first one in our platoon to be killed. His death has started an uproar of emotions in the platoon. … No one understands why we are here and what our mission is. This war is lost. We aren’t helping these people. We are just dying and getting injured.” – Sergeant Ryan Kahlor, Task Force 1-36, Hit, Iraq.

All civilians living in Gaza are collectively guilty for Kassam attacks on Sderot, former Sephardi chief rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu has written in a letter to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

Eliyahu ruled that there was absolutely no moral prohibition against the indiscriminate killing of civilians during a potential massive military offensive on Gaza aimed at stopping the rocket launchings.

A 27-year-old man described as one of the world's most prolific spammers was arrested Wednesday, and federal authorities said computer users across the Web could notice a decrease in the amount of junk e-mail.
The part about this I really like is how the courts charged him with identity theft for using someone else's domain name, something I will keep in mind when we track down the asshole using whatreallyhappened.com to send out spam. - M. R.

Then we started talking about movies, and he refuses to watch anything related to 9/11. He said, "Ma, did you watch that WTC movie yet? We have it here and I won't watch that stuff because it just gets everybody pissed off again and I am tired of hearing that we should kill more people because of 9/11." He then said, "Ma, by the year 2050 we will still be killing in the name of 9/11!!" "Probably when I die and go to heaven people will still be saying, let's kill because of 9/11!" "Enough with killing in the name of 9/11!" I tell all my friends here that we should just move on and get over it. We aren't proving anything."

Military officials stated in a USA Today report that the July 18 exercise will develop scenarios based on things that are "fairly current in the real world, but the schedule is set way in advance," and it is designed to "teach and educate people about the complexity of decisions in formulating policy."
Translation: the pentagon is going to conduct an exercise on how to create an Iranian crisis. - M. R.

As May comes to a close, the death toll for U.S. troops in Iraq measured over a two-month period has reached an all-time high.

The reason for this email is because there is now word leaking out that we are scheduled to be extended for three ADDITIONAL months THIS December.

Democratic leaders and campaign operatives think their party will pick up more seats in 2008 because of this growing antiwar sentiment and say it is impossible for Congress to withdraw troops from Iraq until Democrats achieve a larger majority.
This is complete and utter nonsense.

The way you stop the war is by stopping the funding of the war, an issue on which the 110th congress played one of their favorite new tricks; rolling over, playing dead, and giving this president precisely what he wanted. - M. R.

THE half-century US military presence in South Korea may be a model for a future in which US forces play a support role in Iraq rather than a frontline combat role, the White House said.
This is absolutely a false comparison, and Tony Snow knows it.

The so-called "insurgency" (read: the Iraqi people wanting their country back) will not end until the US leaves Iraq completely and permanently.

The more logical comparison to Iraq would be that of Vietnam. - M. R.

“The United States became midwife to a war crime when it endorsed the creation of Israel in 1948 and blackmailed European nations into supporting it,” writes Felton. “From this time forward, the Zionist parasite began leaching off the U.S.”

It is unfortunate that the U.S. military does not appear to respect the death of any Afghan, whatever their label.

U.S. warplanes pound residential area in Mosul...

So many Fort Lewis soldiers are being killed in Iraq that the Army base will no longer hold individual memorial services.
"God bless Pete and Tim and Steve and Jorge and Sue and Philip and Henry and the other Henry and John and the other John and the other John and the other John and Michael and Joe and Ray and Tony and Melissa! NEXT! Move it, move it, move it! To-DAY people, to-DAY! Get those boxes stacked up. We gotta whole bunch more to get through before sundown." - M. R.

It's long been conventional wisdom that Iran's Shiite Muslim rulers would do nothing to destabilize Afghan President Hamid Karzai's shaky government or aid the Taliban, Sunni Muslim militants against whom Iran nearly went to war with in 1998.
Which means that Iran is not the source of these weapons. It's another false-flag to create a case for war. - M. R.

At a Memorial Day event in an American Legion hall in Alton, N.H., this week, Mitt Romney lashed out at an Iraq War veteran who "complained that he hasn't been able to get adequate medical care since returning from Iraq in January 2005.
"Dammit, the Patriotic thing to do is get killed outright, not spend the rest of your life limping around VA hospitals at TAXPAYER EXPENSE!" -- Official White Horse Souse - M. R.

Bad Marketing?...

Six more US soldiers have been killed in Iraq, the military announced on Thursday, confirming that May has become the deadliest month for American forces in two-and-a-half years.
It's interesting: where are the appropriate-age family members of all the neocons who cheered - and continue to cheer - this war?

Are they serving in any branch of our military on the front lines of Afghanistan and Iraq?

Somehow, I wouldn't want to bet that they are. - M. R.

"And I think all of us have a sense if we imagine the kind of world we would face if the people who bombed the mess hall in Mosul, or the people who did the bombing in Spain, or the people who attacked the United States in New York, shot down the plane over Pennsylvania and attacked the Pentagon." -- Donald Rumsfeld, speech to US troops in Mosul, Iraq, December 24, 2004.

Poverty Scavengers...
Venture Capitalists buy small countries debts and demanding exorbitant repayments.

Take it one step further. What if Venture Capitalists intentionally trash an economy to put the people into debt? How else to explain the US going from one of the world's wealthiest countries to being hopelessly in debt in just 20 years? - M. R.

Activists Confront Giuliani Over 9/11...
This is the video in which Giuliani claims he was NOT given advance warning of the World Trade Towers collapse, directly contradicting what he said to Peter Jennings. - M. R.

It is hardly surprising not a single corporate newspaper reported the death of the Constitution. Go to Google News and type in “National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive” and hit enter. Google returns ten paltry results, not one from the New York Times, the Washington Post, or related corporate media source. Google Trends rates the story as “mild,” that is to say it warrants nary a blip on the news radar screen. Of course, another death blow to the Constitution, already long on life support, is hardly news. Few understand we now live in a dictatorship, or maybe it should be called a decidership.

It was 40 years ago this June 8 that the USS Liberty – a large, armorless, refitted freighter that was gathering intelligence in the Mediterranean at the outset of the Six Day War – was attacked by Israeli fighter jets and torpedoes. Thirty-four U.S. sailors were killed, and 172 were wounded. The Liberty limped back to Malta. A U.S. Navy court of inquiry was on board investigating the damage, but – for some reason – the investigators were not allowed to proceed to Israel to find out what really went on. Orders from the top echelons of the Pentagon nixed the inquiry, and today, the families of the fallen still haven't gotten any answers as to why Israel was allowed to get away with it without even so much as a slap on the wrist – nor even any public acknowledgment that it was a deliberate attack.
"I want to tell you something very clear, don't worry about American pressure on Israel, we, the Jewish people control America, and the Americans know it." Ariel Sharon to Shimon Peres, October 3rd, 2001, as reported on Kol Yisrael radio. - M. R.

Public Health investigation seeks people who may have been exposed to extensively drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR TB) infected person...

This is the fruit of the ongoing racist debate. The attorney general's seal of approval on the Shin Bet's interpretation of the law.

Cheney and the remaining neo-con cabal inside the Bush administration favor quick and decisive U.S. military action against Iran while Bush, backed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, favor the current diplomatic negotiations with Iran, particularly the Baghdad Green Zone talks concerning Iraq's security.

How blind can Abbas be not to realise that Olmert is definitely not a peace partner? How many more murders have to be carried out in the Territories before he sees that.

CONVINCE FELLOW GLOBAL WARMING CRUSADERS TO STOP BREATHING. Al Gore says, "[W]e should start by immediately freezing CO2 emissions and then beginning sharp reductions." I concur. If carbon dioxide emissions are the problem, persuading global warming fanatics to immediately stop exhaling may be the solution.

The names Khaled El Masri, Moazzam Begg, Binyam Mohammad, and Maher Arar may not sound familiar to most people. But they are among the hundreds of people, many of whom have no proven ties to terrorist organizations, who since 1997 have been removed from airports on suspicions based at times on the flimsiest of evidence. They have been escorted away at boarding gates, grabbed while they changed planes, and approached on street corners. Those accused disappeared into a secret world of endless interrogations and torture; all transported care of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Pass the butter ... Please...

When President Perez Musharraf survived back-to-back assassination attempts in 2003, he might have thought the worst was behind him. But now, after easily quelling any threat to his power during eight years of military rule, the general appears trapped in a labyrinth of his own making.

His attempt 2 1/2 months ago to sideline Pakistan's independent-minded chief justice touched off nationwide protests that have coalesced into a full-blown pro-democracy movement. Islamic militants have established a firm foothold in the tribal borderlands, and vigilante-style followers of a radical cleric here in the capital have been kidnapping police officers and menacing those they consider to be promoting a licentious lifestyle.

And remember, folks: Pakistan does have nuclear weapons. - M. R.

How could Rumsfeld have changed his clothes in the space of just 15 to 20 seconds? If he was already dressed to go outside when the Pentagon was hit, was this just a fortunate coincidence? Or is it possible that he knew in advance that the Pentagon was going to be attacked, and therefore had put on his jacket ready to respond when this happened?

Conyers endorses national effort to impeach Bush, Cheney...
Impeachment is a waste of time with this do-nothing Congress. I say we skip impeachment and go right to revolutionary tribunal. For all 600+ of them. - M. R.

The US Congress and the White House have been at odds over the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq for months, but brief historical reflection suggests that the only option left for Washington is to link forces with Iran.
What Lt. General William Odom says is logical, and completely intelligent, which is why there probably isn't a snowball's chance in hell it will happen, particularly with Israel looking desperately for any excuse to get the US into a war with Iran. - M. R.

Turkey has sent large contingents of reinforcement soldiers, tanks and armored personnel carriers to its border with Iraq as debate heated up over whether to stage a cross-border offensive to hit Kurdish rebel bases.

Turkey asked the United States formally on Tuesday to avoid another violation of its airspace after an incident that exposed tensions between the NATO allies.

Egypt asked the Foreign Ministers of the Quartet who are going to hold a meeting today in Berlin, the need to halt Israel's continuing aggression against the Gaza Strip, calling the Jewish state and Palestinians for a cease-fire, a mutual truce and also withdraw from the West Bank.

The aggressive new tactics spearheading President Bush's "surge" of troops into Iraq have contributed to one of the largest U.S. monthly combat losses since the war began, with the toll rising to 116 dead in May.

Not since the 19th century have foreigners held so much American debt, said Alan Taylor, a professor of economic history at the University of California, Davis. Leaked emails between London and military chiefs in Iraq suggest Lord Goldsmith advised a "pragmatic" approach to handling prisoners rather than adherence to the "higher standards" of human rights.

In a scandal that is rocking the U.K., Lord Goldsmith is accused of telling the Army that its soldiers were not bound by the Human Rights Act when arresting, detaining and interrogating Iraqi prisoners.

"This student applied to a Paths to Peace scholarship to attend NYU for a year. Our student was shortlisted and invited to an interview in Jerusalem. He submitted his request and was told he would get a permit, but when the Israeli official called him in for an interview, he was bluntly told that the price of the permit was to "cooperate" - i.e., inform on the people around him in his village or on campus, etc. He ended up not getting a permit."

In a statement, Dugard said that the extrajudicial killings by Israel is illegal under international humanitarian law and not even seems committed to the minimum requirements set by the Israeli Supreme Court last December.

A lawyer for Vice President Dick Cheney told the Secret Service last September to eliminate information on who visited him at his official residence, a newly disclosed letter states.

The Sept. 13 letter from Mr. Cheney’s lawyer says logs for his residence on the grounds of the Naval Observatory are subject to the Presidential Records Act. Such a designation prevents the public from learning who visited the vice president.

You've just got to love the 'transparency' of this administration!

And by the way, just what is Dick Cheney afraid those visitor logs might tell us? - M. R.

In fact, the OECD says, US school students “rank 24th out of 29 OECD countries in mathematics performance.” It explained: “By the middle grades, the top achieving countries ... begin the transition to the study of algebra ... geometry and even in some cases, basic trigonometry. By the end of the eighth grade in these countries children have mostly completed US high school courses in algebra 1 and geometry.

“By contrast, most US students are destined to mostly continue the study of arithmetic. In fact, we estimate that at the end of eighth grade (about age 14) US students are some two or more years behind their counterparts around the world.”

So, American kids rank 24th out of 29 countries in math by the time they're 14?

This is absolutely unacceptable. - M. R.

Khalil Deek, Adam Gadahn/Pearlman's "Handler"...
Khalil Deek keeps getting caught, but is never charged, and is released with US approval. Given that Deek is an associate of Adam Gadahan, and Gadahn is a known false-flag operative, it follows that Deek is also a false-flag operative, playing at terrorist to justify US/Israeli militarism. - M. R.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, prominent neoconservative Norman Podhoretz writes that he 'hopes' and 'prays' that President Bush will bomb Iran.
Memo to Norman Podhoretz: Iran has seen with both eyes what happens to a country the US (and Israel) doesn't like very much (as was the case with Iraq, which absolutely had no weapons of mass destruction).

Norman, the uranium has already been enriched in Iran.

If the US and/or Israel bombs their nuclear facilities, it will make Chernobyl look like a very minor glitch, in terms of the spread of poisonous radiation over the entire area, if not the world.

Iran will counter-attack, leaving our soldiers in Iraq to take the brunt of that counterattack.

And Norman, one final thing: if you think that military action is the only "final solution" possible with Iran, where are the young people of appropriate military age in your family?

Have they enlisted, and are they serving in the front lines of Iraq and Afghanistan? - M. R.

Giuliani caught in direct lie-listen to him tell Peter Jennings he was warned WTC was going to collapse...

If you think George W. Bush and the neoconservatives inducted "regime change" into American foreign policy's hall of fame? Think again. Long before Iraq, U.S. presidents, spies, corporate types and their acolytes abroad had honed the art of deposing foreign governments.

It has happened again, and in the open. The American Israeli Political Action Committee (AIPAC) which heads a network of pro-Israeli lobbies, persuaded Congress to drop a provision which would have required President Bush to ask for Congressional approval prior to attacking Iran.

History tells us that imperialist nations quite predictably invade weaker nations on a regular basis... especially when those weaker nations happen to be standing on valuable natural resources like oil or uranium. Thanks to this desire for strategic control over territories, the twentieth century was the bloodiest in human history, with more people being lost to war, greed and conquest than during any single century in recorded history (including the centuries spanning Greek and Roman civilizations).

Speaking on CNN's "American Morning," Brian Morgenstern -- a 23-year-old Camden County resident, according to his MySpace page -- described how two men brought him a videotape to transfer to DVD in late January 2006.

He said he went home that night and told his family what he had seen: Ten men at a firing range with handguns, rifles and what he thought were fully automatic rifles. Authorities later said they were chanting in Arabic, "Allah Akbar," or "God is Great."

Word has it that their may be plans yet again to "outsource" highly skilled American jobs to other countries. Approximately 40-million American jobs could be at stake and yet U.S workers have not been told or consulted about it, until now. Just to put the number of 40-million into perspective, that is more than twice the amount of people that are employed in a manufacturing job.

The Bush administration said Tuesday it will fight to keep meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease.

The Agriculture Department tests less than 1 percent of slaughtered cows for the disease, which can be fatal to humans who eat tainted beef. But Kansas-based Creekstone Farms Premium Beef wants to test all of its cows.

Larger meat companies feared that move because, if Creekstone tested its meat and advertised it as safe, they might have to perform the expensive test, too.

Russia on Tuesday said it had successfully tested a new multiple warhead ballistic missile designed to overcome air-defence systems such as the US shield planned for deployment in central Europe.

The test comes as Russia is locked in a diplomatic battle over US plans to expand a missile defence shield into central Europe, a move Moscow portrays as an attempt to tip the nuclear balance in Washington's favour.

Like paranoid schizophrenic neglecting his meds, Senator John McCain tells us Osama will get us if the United States pulls out of Iraq.

“In the May 15 Republican debate in South Carolina, Senator John McCain of Arizona suggested that Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden would ‘follow us home’ from Iraq—a comment some viewers may have taken to mean that bin Laden was in Iraq, which he is not,” reports the Boston Globe.

Indeed, Osama is not in Iraq or anywhere else because he died in late December, 2001.

Mc Cain's obvious lie about Bin Laden reminds me of the line (falsely) attributed to P.T. Barnum, the great US circus entrepreneur: "There's a sucker born every minute".

Many of us have had a difficult time picturing how it's going to go in January of 2009. It's hard to imagine Bush and Cheney just walking away from their unpopular but apparently supernaturally powerful positions as the leaders of the Only Superpower On Earth.

Well on May 9, Bush quietly signed a directive that may ensure that he and Tricky Dick II don't have to hand over the reigns.

Some of the most creative thinking in television these days has nothing to do with comedy or drama. It's about the commercials. Fueled by a growing sense of desperation, networks are inserting games, quizzes and mini-dramas into commercial breaks.

They're incorporating more product pitches into programming. Two experimental programs without traditional commercial breaks will premiere this fall. NBC has even called on Jerry Seinfeld for help.

This is all being done to stop viewers with DVRs from fast-forwarding through advertisements, or to circumvent those that do.

Folks, I have worked in TV advertising for some 30 years and trust me when I tell you that you cannot force people to watch the commercials.

When you spend the money and creative effort to make commercials interesting, people WILL watch. When you go the cheap route and do a talking head screaming at the screen why the viewer simply MUST buy the product, the audience will tune out, hit the remote, or head for the bathroom or kitchen. - M. On this Memorial Day, thousands of United States men and women are engaged in untold acts of bravery and drudgery on behalf of what our leaders have defined as vital American interests in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But even as the flags wave to honor soldiers past, much of the current campaigns go on without notice, because while troop numbers are surging, the media that cover them are leaking away, worn out by the danger and expense of covering a war that refuses to end.

Why do most American Jews insist on stifling open debate on any issue in the Middle East? This isn't even the case among Jews in Israel, where it seems free speech does indeed exist. But just try exercising your free speech here in the U.S. regarding our one-sided support of Israel. With lightning speed, you'll be labeled "anti-Semitic" or "Jew hater." Just ask Jimmy Carter or Noam Chomsky.

With publication of the report, the secret was out in a big way and Israel didn't want anyone to wake this dog up. The lobby kicked into full-alert damage control. Their members did their part with an orchestrated attack on the report and its authors in every possible venue. But perhaps more importantly, the Israeli lobby exercised its considerable control over our elected officials by making sure they followed suit in denouncing the report.

As it turns out, the Israeli lobby is right to be concerned, for once the American public is aware of how they have corrupted our system of government, things may change.

The worldwide media campaign charging that Palestinians teach their children hate led Nathan Brown of George Washington University to investigate their textbooks.

Holding 19 of parliament's 120 seats, Labor is Olmert's main coalition partner. But the party has lost support since finishing second in the March 2006 elections, largely because of its alliance with Olmert's Kadima party in conducting the inconclusive war against the armed Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah last summer.

Many Labor members have called for the party to abandon Olmert since a state investigative panel, called the Winograd Committee, issued findings last month that harshly criticized the prime minister and Peretz for mismanaging the war.

Extraordinary rendition may be a new term, but it is not a new practice — the English did it in the 17th century, shipping prisoners to Scotland to be tortured. Secret prisons are not a recent invention either. Britain ran such a camp holding Nazi prisoners at Bad Nenndorf, Germany, after World War II. Evidence of ill treatment there was kept secret for 60 years. America also had a secret postwar camp known only as "P.O. Box 1142" at Fort Hunt next to the Potomac River in Virginia just outside of Washington, D.C. There, former U.S. interrogators have now disclosed, more than 3,400 Nazi prisoners were kept "off the books" in violation of the Geneva Conventions while they were interrogated about vital technical intelligence that could be useful to America.

Warning that "our patience has run out," the Turkish government has authorized the army to draft a plan for a major military thrust into Iraq to smash Kurdish rebel bases there "once and for all."

Any significant Turkish military thrust into Iraq without American backing would almost certainly damage Turkish-U.S. relations, which already are strained by Ankara's opposition to Washington's Iraq policy.

Drug-resistant staph infections have spread to the urban poor, rising almost seven-fold in recent years in some Chicago neighborhoods, a new study finds.

Researchers said the crowded living conditions of public housing and jails may speed up the person-to-person spread of infection.

Two former high-ranking health officials with close ties to the Bush administration helped a Michigan-based pharmaceutical company secure sole-source, multi-million dollar federal contracts for the purchase of its controversial anthrax vaccine.

Last month, Emergent BioSolutions announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) intended to purchase more than 18 million doses of its Biothrax vaccine for the Strategic National Stockpile. The strategic stockpile is set aside for civilian use during a large-scale emergency, such as a bioterrorism attack or natural disaster. Once finalized, the contract will be the largest of its kind for Emergent’s anthrax vaccine.

Always a comforting thought, knowing how your tax dollars are being spent by this administration these days. - M. R.

The federal government recorded a $1.3 trillion loss last year — far more than the official $248 billion deficit — when corporate-style accounting standards are used, a USA TODAY analysis shows.

The loss reflects a continued deterioration in the finances of Social Security and government retirement programs for civil servants and military personnel. The loss — equal to $11,434 per household — is more than Americans paid in income taxes in 2006.

If ordinary citizens used the same accounting methods the government uses, they would go to jail (In ENRON's case, some of them did).

I have been saying for years that the government is going into debt faster than the taxpayers can pay for it. This article confirms that.

Note that the government debt owed by each household is roughly 5 times all other household debt combined. That means that somewhere down the road, an aggregate 80% tax is needed just to hold even with government spending.

Now you know why the government is trying to take your guns away. - M. R.

"Loose Change" attempts to argue the widely debunked "controlled demolition" theory, which claims the Twin Towers and 7 World Trade Center were an inside job. It alleges the jet-fuel fires inside the towers weren't hot enough to melt the buildings' steel reinforcements. It offers the ludicrous idea that the buildings were blown up from within.

Those claims were soundly refuted by Popular Mechanics magazine, which methodically shot down every single one.

Message From The White Horse Souse...

We believe that the decision of the Venezuelan government not to renew the broadcasting licence of RCTV when it expires on May 27 (Chávez silences critical TV station, May 23; Comment and Letters, May 25) is legitimate given that RCTV has used its access to the public airwaves to repeatedly call for the overthrow of the democratically elected government of President Hugo Chávez. RCTV gave vital practical support to the overthrow of Venezuela's elected government in April 2002 in which at least 13 people were killed. In the 47 hours that the coup plotters held power, they overturned much of Venezuela's democratic constitution - closing down the elected national assembly, the supreme court and other state institutions.

When was the last time you heard your executive, judicial, senatorial, congressional or pastoral leaders say "I was wrong," "We were wrong," "I am sorry"? From "I did not have sex with that woman," to "those weapons of mass destruction must be around here somewhere," just saying "I'm sorry," seems the hardest thing to do. Give it a try anyway before you kill us all.
