White House admits fault on 'Mission Accomplished' banner...
No shit. - M. R.

We drive, they starve. The mass diversion of the North American grain harvest into ethanol plants for fuel is reaching its political and moral limits.

"The reality is that people are dying already," said Jacques Diouf, of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). "Naturally people won't be sitting dying of starvation, they will react," he said.

An unknown amount of state employees who work in the state archives division were trapped inside this morning, according to Russ Saito, head of the Department of Accounting and General Services, but since were allowed to leave, his office reports. The dozen employees who work there were sent home for the day. But several had their cars on site and cannot get them out of the palace parking lot. Saito says there are enough protesters to block with a human chain all five entrances and exits to the palace. They also locked the palace gates with their own locks.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is in charge of enforcement in the area. Laura Thielen, this agency's director, says "A group of about 35 persons have barred the public from entering the grounds of Iolani Palace, claiming sovereign rights over the area. The Department of Land and Natural Resources State Parks, which manages the palace in cooperation with the Friends of Iolani Palace is closing the area. DLNR enforcement offices are working to fully assess the situation and are talking with the protesters to peacefully end the protest. We will continue to update the public as we get more information."

With Iran, the world's fourth-largest oil producer, shifting its crude trading to the euro and the yen, instead of the US dollar, treasury managers feel that this could well be the first challenge to the US dollar's dominance as currency of global trade.

"I wouldn't put on Vista if it was free," says Weider, chief information officer for Ministry Health Care. "In the past, there's always been an important reason to upgrade, but XP (the previous version of Windows) is perfectly acceptable."

The investigation - though it has resulted in a confession and detention of the father, Josef Fritzl - is increasingly being questioned by Austrians who have been shocked by the case.

Franz Polzer, the police chief of Lower Austria, stonewalled as he was bombarded with questions from the media about the conduct of the case. He emphasised that Mr Fritzl, the father of seven children from an incestuous relationship, had acted alone in imprisoning his family in a cramped cellar beneath his home for 24 years.

"We are not conducting an investigation into a crime involving accomplices," he said. But Colonel Polzer also announced that the unravelling of the case was due to an anonymous tip-off.

I am in agreement with the theory of accomplices. For one thing I have a very hard time accepting that Fritzl's wife had no idea what was going on in their bomb shelter. Just where did she think all those kids were coming from?

Erick Turner, a psychiatry professor at the Oregon State Health and Sciences University, woke up one day and realized that he was acting as a shill for pharmaceutical corporations. Worse, he was promoting drugs that not only provide very little benefit, but also do great harm. In spite of the benefits paid to him, including accommodations and thousands of dollars, and the ego satisfaction of being recognized as a "Very Important Person" by his fellow physicians, his conscience wouldn't let him continue.

Peace Activists Protest War by Refusing Taxes

$325,000 Redirected to Katrina Survivors, Iraqi Refugees, & Others

Brooklyn, NY -- On Sat., May 3, in Birmingham, AL, $93,000 of unpaid "war taxes" -- federal income taxes -- will be publicly redirected away from the Internal Revenue Service to a New Orleans health clinic and to a group in the Middle East aiding Iraqi refugees. This redirection ceremony will take place during a meeting of the National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee.

For reasons of conscience, over 520 people from 44 states have "boycotted" $325,000 of their 2007 federal taxes. Of that total, $50,000 has been designated for the Common Ground Health Clinic in New Orleans and the Direct Aid Initiative will receive $43,000. The remaining $232,000 has been designated for scores of other humanitarian projects in the United States and around the world. These taxpayers are committing civil disobedience to demonstrate to Congress how to cut off the funds for this war and redirect resources to the pressing needs of people.

The money will provide healthcare to survivors of Katrina and refugees from the Iraq war, living in Jordan and Syria. (For details on each project, see www.cghc.org or www.directaidiraq.org.).

The National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee is a 25-year-old coalition of groups who support war tax resisters.

Decades after the GI Bill transformed American society after World War II, another generation of veterans is returning home -- more than 800,000 as of last summer. What they find is quite different from the comprehensive benefits that once covered all the costs of an education, from undergraduate straight through Harvard Law. A second American aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf on Tuesday as the Pentagon ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran.
Having botched the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan so abysmally thoroughly, you have to wonder what the Pentagon thinks they have left to throw at Iran.

This is an election year, so I would doubt that there would be a call for a draft (that is, unless there is another "false flag", staged incident upon which US citizens were supposed to focus their fury).

We are overstretched and over-committed, using multiple troop rotations and stop-loss orders to try to keep troop strength up in both countries.

And yet, what we have are two industrial-strength quagmires.

So what's left?

US sea and air-power, both formidable.

But remember: a very high -ranking Russian delegation just met with their counterparts in Iran to discuss "regional security".

I think those people frothing at the mouth for an attack against Iran had better ask themselves this question: what will Russia do if we attack Iran?

(2) She doesn't give a good hoot about the troops, who are dying and suffering in Iraq. Her votes for war-funding puts the troops in harm's way, in a conflict which was launched by the Bush-Cheney Gang based on 935 certifiable lies. (3) When the Democrats took control of the Congress in January, 2007, Sen. Mikulski had an opportunity to stop funding this war and to bring the troops home safely. She failed! More than 60 years since the end of World War II, a notorious SS doctor remains on the loose and is the most-wanted suspected Nazi war criminal. One researcher said Dr. Aribert Heim, here in 1950, could still be alive today and would be 93. According to a witness, Heim once anesthetized a Jewish patient before cutting off his head and boiling it.
Frankly this story strikes me as the usual propagandistic horror story (along the same lines as the now-discredited claims about soap and lamp shades made from Jews) used to "sell" Israel's "need" to steal Palestine.

The fact that the Simon Wiesenthal Center is trying to claim that this man is still alive and dangerous even at age 93 illustrates a major problem for Israel. WW2 happened in the middle of the last century. They are running out of live villains to wave about during fund-raising drives. What is next? Already we are seeing the children of the camp survivors suing for holocaust reparations. Will we see the Nazi hunters start to stalk the children of the alleged Nazi monsters?

The US Supreme Court has just dealt a serious blow to voters' rights that could help put John McCain in the White House by eliminating tens of thousands of voters who generally vote Democratic.

Clinton is airing this advertisement in Indiana, bemoaning the closure of a defense contractor Magnequench's manufacturing plant in Valparaiso (she is also echoing this line in her stump speeches). Looking at the camera, she tells us she's upset that the 200 jobs that were sent to China, and that "now America's defense relies on Chinese spare parts." And then comes the kicker: She tells viewers that "George Bush could have stopped it, but he didn't."

Clinton is certainly right that it is a tragedy that 200 American jobs were killed in a corporate deal that also exported sensitive military technology to China. But she forgets to mention that it wasn't George Bush who was in the key position to stop it -- it was Bill Clinton.

The price of power and who foots the bill for Britain's rocketing energy costs took centre stage yesterday as the oil giants Shell and BP unveiled huge combined profits of £7.2bn, made in just three months, and consumers were hit with a new round of steep rises in prices from gas and electricity to air travel.

Drug Smuggler Made Clinton Donation in Cuba, Investigators Say
By DON VAN NATTA Jr.

MIAMI -- Jorge Cabrera, a drug smuggler who has emerged as
one of the most notorious supporters of President Clinton's
re-election campaign, was asked for a campaign contribution in
the unlikely locale of a hotel in Havana by a prominent Democratic
fund-raiser, congressional investigators have learned.

The investigators said the fund-raiser, whom they identified as
Vivian Mannerud, a Cuban-American businesswoman from Miami,
told Cabrera at a meeting at the Copacabana Hotel in Havana that
in exchange for a contribution he would be invited to a
fund-raising dinner in honor of Vice President Al Gore in an
exclusive enclave near Miami.

Ms. Mannerud owns Airline Brokers Co., an airline charter
service that operates among Havana, the Bahamas and Mexico.

On his return to the United States several days after that
meeting, in November 1995, Cabrera wrote a check for $20,000 to
the Democratic National Committee from an account that included
the proceeds from smuggling cocaine from Colombia to the
United States, said the investigators, who spoke on condition of
anonymity.

Within two weeks of the contribution, Cabrera met Gore at the
dinner in Miami. Ten days later, Cabrera attended a Christmas
reception at the White House hosted by Hillary Rodham Clinton. At
the events, Gore and Mrs. Clinton posed for photographs with
Cabrera, who has two felony convictions dating from the 1980s
and is now in a prison here on a drug-smuggling conviction.

Here we have a photo taken at an official DNC fundraiser with Bill and Hillary posed with Ng Lap Seng, Macau Crime Lord who controls Prostitution in that region. His Fortuna Hotel is actually a high class bordello where young girls (often underage) are available for a price. Ng, through his American contact Charlie Trie, donated close to a million dollars to the Democrats.

So, here is the point. If Barack Obama shares the guilt-by-association of a Pastor who says inflammatory things, then Hillary has to share the guilt-by-association with drug smugglers, pimps, and child molesters.

You cannot have one without the other.

Please forward this article to everyone who has been pounding on Obama's pastor these last few days. - M. R.

A wide-ranging group of U.S. Jewish leaders plans to release a statement Wednesday urging Jews worldwide to boycott the Summer Olympics in Beijing, citing China's troubling record on human rights and Tibet.

There is a new report from the Comptroller of the Currency titled "OCC's Quarterly Report on Bank Trading and Derivative Activities, Fourth Quarter 2007", which shows that total bank holdings of derivatives is estimated to be "only" $164.2 trillion, whereas I seem to remember that the global glut of derivatives is upward of $700 trillion, which are both numbers so big that I cannot even begin to comprehend the enormity of them.

The report shows that the notional value of derivatives held by U.S. commercial banks has suddenly plunged by a whopping $8 trillion, which is (unbelievably) still only 5% of the total, and which merely takes the total down to the aforementioned-yet-still-staggering $164.2 trillion.

According to the Labor Department, the average cost of groceries is climbing at an annual rate of about 5%, the sharpest increase in 18 years. Average weekly earnings are rising at an annual rate of 3.3%.

his disparity has resulted in significantly higher customer traffic at bakery thrift outlets, employees say, as well as a surge in people turning to food banks.

CIA Director Michael Hayden said Monday that the alleged Syrian nuclear reactor destroyed by an Israeli airstrike in September would have produced enough plutonium for one or two bombs within a year of becoming operational.
Dang! The warranty for my bovine excrement meter just expired, and it's exploded!! - M. R.

The author of the note pinpoints irregularities about the photographs. Beeman's source alleges that the CIA "enhanced" some of the images. For example he cites this image...
Recently, on a TV show I work on from time to time, we shot an actor walking into a house from outside. The next day, we filmed the same actor entering the living room from outside ... on a set on a sound stage some 18 miles from where we filmed the exterior of the house. In the final edit, it will feel like the actor walks into the house from outdoors, even thoughj in actuality a day and 18 miles separate the two pieces of film.

My point is simple. We have been shown photos of a building in Syria, and photos of what is claimed to be pieces of a reactor under construction. We are to ASSUME the two sets of images are linked, but are they? Yes, the photos of the building in Syria are in Syria, but in truth we have no way to know just where the photos of reactor components were taken. They could be taken 18 miles away, or 100 miles, or 500 miles.

Consider this photo...

While there is shade on the top, the sides of the shade are wide open. It is clear that these components would be visible to reconnaissance aircraft and satellites shooting at an oblique angle. Wherever these reactor components are sitting; wherever the photo was taken, this is NOT a facility that is trying to be clandestine. Does that sound like how Syria would handle constructing a reactor? Would they not totally enclose the construction site to keep what they were doing secret?

This whole pack of "evidence" is starting to remind me of those "mobile biological weapons labs" that turned out to be balloon inflaters. - M. R.

American security officials this week presented members of Congress with evidence supposedly showing that Syria, with North Korean assistance, was building a nuclear reactor on the target site and that this facility was "not intended for peaceful activities". Pictures have been released allegedly taken inside the facility showing a reactor core being built as well as an image of North Koreans working there.

There is no independent way to verify any of this, especially since the installation has now been destroyed. We must rely on the integrity of the Israeli and US intelligence services. That is where we hit a problem.

Nelson points out that this should be easy to check, but the real issue here is not whether the video is completely fake (which I don't believe it is) but rather that the well has been badly poisoned before on false intel allegations and that the bar now is very high before presented data is trusted. Nelson also notes that the video ID of the so-called North Korea nuclear expert is wrong.

Maybe this intel show wasn't ready for prime time after all - which then begs the question of why the rush.

Iran is frequently portrayed as a backward and fanatically fundamentalist tyrannical outpost. As a result of constant repetition, most of us believe that we have a fairly accurate image of Iran. But, do we really?

posit that the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CORPORATION, a private organization continuously with shareholders, officers and directors since inception, has illegally been, with the collusion of the Federal Reserve Bank (another corporation, public but operated until this last year as a private organization), in complete control of the financial life of this you know, the CORPORATION is now in bankruptcy.

As a private corporation, whatever debts they have incurred as THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, which by the way is virtually all the debt attributed to this nation, is actually theirs and not the Constitutional United States' and/or its Citizens/citizens. That can and will be proved in due time in a court of law, probably the US Supreme Court.

On the other hand, I believe the United States (Constitutional), its assets, its Citizens and their assets and can be proven to be not owned by THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and therefore outside the bankruptcy. I believe the hyperinflation depression information (The writer's first email was posted as part of this article) sent you earlier today can be avoided if we act quickly and wisely. I can expand on that subject later.

Setting aside the rigmarole of Admiralty Law, it really comes down to a simple set of truths.

1. If President Bush lied to start the Iraq war, then he, and not We The People, are responsible for that debt.

2. Congress does not have the right to borrow money and assign the debt to taxpayers of subsequent administrations, many of whom were too young to vote when the debt was incurred.

3. In a nation with rampant vote fraud, it is unsupportable that We The People are in any way liable for the debts of the government. - M. R.

"...the next bubble is already being branded. Wired magazine, returning to its roots in boosterism, put ethanol on the cover of its October 2007 issue, advising its readers to forget oil; NBC had a "Green Week" in November 2007, with themed shows beating away at an ecological message and Al Gore making a guest appearance on the sitcom 30 Rock. Improbably, Gore threatens to become the poster boy for the new new new economy: he has joined the legendary venture-capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, which assisted at the births of Amazon.com and Google, to oversee the "climate change solutions group," thus providing a massive dose of Nobel Prize-winning credibility that will be most useful when its first alternative-energy investments are taken public before a credulous mob."

In an short interview (see video below), the Republican Senator explained that in the many in the Arizona legislature have privately told her they agree with her position but are too afraid or are unable to start asking the same questions themselves. The slide I found particularly interesting/shocking/sad, was his new(?) slide containing a graph of human population growth over the past couple hundred-thousand years. It started off good. He pointed at the beginning of the graph, showing the population of humans on Earth from 200,000 years ago, and referred to the "rise of humans."

Cool beans. So he believes that Homo sapiens evolved from other hominid ancestors, right? Nope. In the very same breath, he then continued to explain that according to his religious beliefs, this "rise of humans" was God's creation of mankind -- apparently 200,000 years ago. His graph then changed to include the caption "Adam & Eve" above this starting point.

Anyone that believes in the United States Constitution is a "hater," and "racist," if you belive Mark Potok and the Southern Poverty Law Center, who by the way labeled the FLDS sect in Texas a "Hate Group" several years ago. Just a coincidence that the ranch was raided as it was after the fraudulent phone call of a black female sympathetic to the SPLC and its agenda? The SPLC lists any pro-American anti-illegal immigration group as a "Hate group." Don't believe it? Go check it out for yourself, the SPLC and the ADL are on the forefront of shutting down any attempts by American citizens to close down the border with Mexico.

The greatest problem the SPLC faces on a daily basis is that there aren't enough real haters around to advance its agenda, which isn't that big of a deal for the SPLC and Potok, because when they need a "hate group" to blame something on, they just make them up as they go along.

The COFEE, which stands for Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor, is a USB "thumb drive" that was quietly distributed to a handful of law-enforcement agencies last June. Microsoft General Counsel Brad Smith described its use to the 350 law-enforcement experts attending a company conference Monday.

The device contains 150 commands that can dramatically cut the time it takes to gather digital evidence, which is becoming more important in real-world crime, as well as cybercrime. It can decrypt passwords and analyze a computer's Internet activity, as well as data stored in the computer.

...

Smith acknowledged Microsoft's efforts are not purely altruistic. It benefits from selling collaboration software and other technology to law-enforcement agencies, just like everybody else, he said.

KBR employees working in Iraq stole weapons, artwork and even gold to make spurs for cowboy boots, two former company workers told Senate Democrats on Monday.

Appearing before a Democrats-only panel looking into allegations of contracting abuses in Iraq, the witnesses accused their former co-workers of widespread improper activity.

KBR spokeswoman Heather Browne said the company would not comment at length because the claims are part of ongoing lawsuits.

"The witnesses who testified today raised claims that KBR has previously addressed. The government has reviewed the claims and refused to join lawsuits asserting them," Browne said.

For the past 48 hours, the Syrians have been amused, laughing off United States accusations that Israel had hit a nuclear site in Syria in September 2007, operated by the Syrians and North Korea.

According to the George W Bush administration, Syria was "within weeks or months" of completing its nuclear reactor. Beneath the Syrian laughter at what seems to be a ludicrous accusation was a certain worry - fear that these accusations could snowball into something similar to what happened when Iraq was accused of developing weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in 2002-2003.

The United States today finds itself with too much war and too few warriors. We face a large and growing gap between our military commitments and our military capabilities. Something has to give.

Meanwhile, our military capacity, especially our ability to keep substantial numbers of boots on the ground, is eroding. If the surge is working as some claim, then why not sustain it? Indeed, why not reinforce that success by sending another 30 or 60 or 90,000 reinforcements?

The answer to that question is self-evident: because the necessary troops don't exist. The cupboard is bare.
