If You've Got a Ticket From One of These Four HPD Officers, Today's Your Lucky Day

Rudolph Farias, John Garcia, Robert Manzanales and Gregory Rosa.

If you've got an outstanding traffic citation from HPD, you'll want to check to see if any of these officers scrawled their name on your ticket. In light of an internal investigation into charges that the officers ran a ticket-rigging scam, bilking the department for thousands of dollars in overtime pay, HPD and the city attorney's office have opted to dismiss some 6,000 traffic tickets.

"In the interest of justice and in fairness, it's the right thing to do," HPD Chief Charles McClelland told reporters yesterday. "If there's any perception that these citations may be tainted or somebody questions the legitimacy or credibility of those, it is better to dismiss them."

FBI Ignores Evidence in Las Vegas

The source says that low level investigators were told to relax, and not follow all the clues. With superiors instructing law enforcement officers not to follow all the leads, we are left to think that something was being covered up. The leaks come from seasoned investigators who say the investigation is tainted for reasons far above their pay grades. Law enforcement officers are trained to hunt and find bad guys and when their own bosses become an obstacle to that process — especially in a high-profile case like this one — suspicions begin to spill over.

Drums Along The Potomac

The amateur psychologist in me suspects that the more the USA heaps Russia with censorious opprobrium and punishments, the closer this floundering polity actually is to completely losing its shit. Friday morning’s front-page headline in The New York Times appears to have been written by Pee Wee Herman:

"Finally, Trump has something bad to say about Russia."

I can just hear Vlad Putin blowing a raspberry out of the Kremlin: “Nyah, nyah, nyah… I know you are, but what am I…?” We’re also informed today by that august journal that U.S. Accuses Russia in Cyberattacks on Power Plants. (Oh, wait a second, they changed the headline at 8:02 to Russia Wormed Its Way Into Access at Power Plants, U.S. Says.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

The hunger for a war against Russia is reaching a very intense place in the Bowels of Power in DC; not because it is morally right, but it might be something with which the US government wants to distract us. There is a financial collapse coming, and one might say, relatively soon.

But the US government is having one hell of a time, because this time, the American people are very skeptical, as they have every right to be, when it comes to its leadership declaring war, or just starting to attack, the allegedly bad government it doesn't like.

But the lost credibility of this government is causing its people to never believe anything it says, ever again. Credibility is delicate; and once it has been broken, and shown to be a sham, that goverment loses it forever.

A week later, the United Kingdom?s Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May claimed the Russian-made nerve agent Novichok had been used in the attack. She said the Russian government was likely behind the attack, although she also raised the possibility that Russia had lost control of the nerve agent and it was used by another actor.

Lurid Trump allegations made by Louise Mensch and co-writer came from hoaxer

Explosive allegations about Donald Trump made by online writers with large followings among Trump critics were based on bogus information from a hoaxer who falsely claimed to work in law enforcement.

The allegations were endorsed as authentic and retweeted by his co-writer Louise Mensch.

The source’s false tips included an allegation, which has been aggressively circulated by Mensch and Taylor, that Trump’s inactive fashion model agency is under investigation by New York authorities for possible sex trafficking.

Neocon Specter of John Bolton Looms Over Trump White House

John Bolton as National Security Adviser, with Nikki Haley in Bolton’s old job at the U.N. and fundamentalist Christian dominionist Mike Pompeo moving from CIA director to replace Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State, means that the neocons — never happy with the prospects of a Trump administration – will, once again, be in the driver’s seat of American foreign policy after a nine-year hiatus. Bolton’s tenure at the U.N. was punctuated by his own undiplomatic outbursts, as well as those of his spokesman, Richard Grenell, Trump’s nominee to be US ambassador to Germany. Bolton strenuously pushed the neocon foreign policy line, as spelled out in the charter for the movement founded in 1997, the Project for the New American Century (PNAC).

Saudis in Secret Peace Talks With Yemen’s Houthis

Publicly, Saudi Arabia has shown no sign of looking for a negotiated end to the war in Yemen. Behind the scenes, however, they’ve been in secret talks with the Shi’ite Houthis for the past two months.

Three years into the Saudi invasion, signs are that there is some war weariness, and that they’ve been making secretive approaches to the Houthis, by way of neighboring Oman, for the past two months. Diplomats say the Houthis are eager for a diplomatic agreement.

One senior Houthi confirmed that the talks have been underway, with spokesman Mohammed Abdul-Salam repeatedly traveling to Oman for meetings with Saudi officials, and trying to carve out a “comprehensive political solution.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, in fact, these reports are true, there may be a reason for hope in Yemen.

Return of the Neo-Cons: Mike Pompeo and the Death of Diplomacy

Secretary Tillerson was far from an ideal choice, but his anointed successor at the State Department – Mike Pompeo – may ditch diplomacy all together and start a war!

We both attended West Point. That’s where the commonalities end. I’ve been a soldier opposed to (endless) war; he’ll be a statesman opposed to peace. That should give us cause for pause.

So who is Mike Pompeo? The short answer: a startlingly hawkish Tea Party Republican oilman with a penchant for combative rhetoric and a near hysterical hatred for Iran. But he’s smart – valedictorian of his West Point class and a graduate of Harvard – and that makes him even more dangerous. His primary qualification, though, is his loyalty and propensity for mind-melding with his boss, Donald Trump. For the last year, he often personally delivered Trump’s presidential daily briefing (PDB) at the White House each morning and they agree on just about everything; as Trump says of Pompeo: "we’re always on the same wavelength."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Under Pompeo's watch, we may well be looking at more wars, until we wind up in a war with Russia.

I would not be surprised at seeing an attempt at the reinstitution of the draft in this country, this time, coming for our young women as well as our young men.

GOP Leaders Want to Delay Yemen War Powers Vote

Expectations are that the Senate War Powers vote on the Yemen War, SJ Res 54, will come up for debate and a vote next week. That may not happen if the Republican leadership gets its way, however, as many are opposed to the bill, and are trying to stall a vote.

Some leaders are arguing the issue is too “divisive,” and that the matter should be sent back to a committee for closer study. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), by contrast, endorsed the Pentagon’s argument, saying the US does so much military engagement around the world that it would be dangerous to think the War Powers Act could apply to all of it.

But of course the whole point of the War Powers Act is that it does apply to any commitment of US forces overseas. It’s just that in recent years, presidents have relied on catch-all authorizations with vague limits to join some wars, and other times simply assumed Congress wouldn’t mind, as they generally have not minded.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reality of this situation is, having armed, and provided guidance and mid-air refueling to the Saudi military, the US government has colluded in Saudi war crimes in Yemen:

There is nothing "divisive" about this; it is as real a statement of fact as are all the other horrible facts about this sordid military campaign in Yemen, 3 years on, and with no resolution in sight:

Saudi coalition killed hundreds of children in Yemen, confidential UN report claims

Because Yemen cannot grow its own food, and it has to be imported, the Saudis, with US military assistance, have blockaded the ports, meaning that malnutrition is causing death, and a massive health crisis for the country.

Cholera (perhaps weaponised?!?) and diptheria now haunt Yemen:
Images: Yemen malnutrition has generated a cholera crisis

The skyrocketing increase in massive fetal abnormalites, cancers and stillbirths in Yemen indicate that the Saudis have used depleted uranium, with the predictable results on Yemen's children:

Image: Yemeni child exposed to du in the womb (image courtesy of RUPTLY

In my world, the poisoning of a child in the womb with this atrocious weapon, is criminal and inhuman beyond belief. And what gets me, is that the man who ordered this campaign, is not at all an uneducated man; Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, is very bright, university educated, has a law degree, and wound up 2nd in his class.

But could his hatred of the Iranian Shiias, who are acting as advisors to the Houthi rebels, be so great as to compel him to order the death, by direct military assaults; starvation, and disease, of non-combatants, and Yemen's children?!?

Sadly, the short answer here is "Yes"; and as a Christian pacifist activist, I will have to continue to bear witness to these atrocities on this site as long as I have breath.

When you destroy the children of a country, you destroy that country's future.

History will not be kind to this man; I understand that he is known by many honorifics in Saudi Arabia, because he is Saudi royalty.

History, however, will remember him as the Butcher of Yemen.

Senator Corker, the US government has to stop this madness; as you are perfectly aware, according to our Constitution, only Congress can declare war. It has not done so in Yemen.

I don't know what your portfolio holds in terms of weapons stocks, but I do know approximately, your net worth: Google has scrubbed the articles on this, but there are always other places to go to find such facts:

Senator Corker Undervalued his Wealth by Millions The story, from 2015, stated the following:

And Senator Schatz, whose office I called last week, to encourage you to vote for this bill, you, sir, owe me a return phone call!

Or have your alleged constituents with a point of view on this war different from that of your own, become....expendable and irrelevant in the State of Hawaii?!?

Just checking, sir.

Benzel said she did not discourage students from taking part in the walkout. “And so I just kind of used the example, which I know it’s really controversial, but I know it was the best example I thought of at the time — a group of students nationwide, or even locally, decided ‘I want to walk out of school for 17 minutes’ and go in the quad area ...

McMaster: US Troops Will Stay Until Syria Is Stabilized

Despite conceding that the US and others had effectively liberated “100%” of ISIS-held territory in Syria, National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster dismissed the idea that US forces might withdraw from the country any time soon.

“We have more work to do,” McMaster insisted, saying the US will stay “until ISIS is fully defeated, population centers are stabilized, and refugees can safely return home.” This vision of stability also appears to depend heavily on imposing a regime change in Syria.

Underscoring the focus on regime change, McMaster demanded that “all civilized nations” come together to punish both Russia and Iran for backing the Syrian government. He warned Assad would not have impunity, and neither would Russia or Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation of McMasterese: the US is going to "neutralize" Syria before it tackles regime change in Tehran, even if that potentially means war with Russia.

Syrian army captures key rebel stronghold in Eastern Ghouta as 12,500 civilians evacuate

The Syrian army captured the Hamouriyeh district in the capital Damascus' Eastern Ghouta countryside after the withdrawal of the Failaq al-Rahman rebel group as 12,500 people evacuated that area on Thursday, a monitor group reported.

The Syrian government forces have started deploying in Hamouriyeh and set up their positions in that area amid an ongoing evacuation process of civilians from that area, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

This comes amid heavy shelling from the government side on the remaining posts of Failaq al-Rahman in the towns of Jisreen, Zamalka, Kafar Batna and Saqba, said the London-based watchdog group.

The observatory added that 12,500 civilians have left the areas of Failaq al-Rahman rebels through Hamouriyeh on Thursday, marking the largest wave of evacuation from civilians since the Russian-backed humanitarian pause for the civilian evacuation started two weeks ago.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Syria, with Russia's help, is winning this on the ground, and the Western/US jihadis are being expunged.

This is why you can most probably expect to see yet another chemical attack against civilians, to be blamed on the Syrians and Russia, as the US pretext for going in, full bore, and invading the country.

This means that we will most likely wind up in a shooting war with Russia in Syria, and it may well be a war that the US military cannot win; they don't have the weaponry; the troop strength; the manufacturing, or the money to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia in Syria.

Obama DOJ Ordered 500,000 Fugitives Deleted From Background Check Database

The Obama administration ordered the removal of over 500,000 fugitives with outstanding arrest warrants from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in late 2016, according to testimony from Acting FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich.

Bowdich confirmed a November report from the Washington Post which set the figure at "tens of thousands," after Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) asked him if more than 500,000 names were dropped from the database.

The FBI purged the names from the database after the Justice Department changed its legal interpretation of “fugitive from justice” to say it pertains only to wanted people who have crossed state lines.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is one of the things about Obama, besides his faux populism, which used to drive me up the wall; he was sneakily enormously punitive to people he didn't like.

And how better to welcome an incoming president, not YOUR choice, he thought, than make sure that 50,000 or more criminal fugitives were still on the streets, and not getting arrested for their crimes?!??

This idea must have given him great pleasure.

After all, he massively increased the number of extrajudicial drone assassinations committed by US forces overseas way beyond those of his predecessor; it must have given him a real sense of power over life and death itself, even when he had to realize that the drone assassinations were creating more radicalized individuals among the survivors, leading to a nearly perpetual state of war in the Middle East and Africa, as we are seeing now.

BREAKING REPORT: Paul Ryan Will Announce Retirement From Congress…

Mark your calendars! As if there isn’t enough daily drama swirling around Washington, in early or mid-April there is likely to be an announcement that will titillate the nation’s capital.

According to a frontline GOP strategist (name asked to be withheld) “after Easter” is when House Speaker Paul Ryan will announce his decision whether or not to run for reelection in Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district. Speaker Ryan, age 48, has represented his home district since winning the seat in 1998 at age 28.

Ryan’s 2018 reelection decision is imminent given Wisconsin’s filing deadline of June 1 with an August 14 primary. Thus, April is the expected time frame when this strategist believes the speaker will drop his bombshell.

Wisconsin’s 1st district is the most southeastern in the state. It is situated along the eastern portion of the northern Illinois border encompassing Kenosha and Racine counties including portions of Milwaukee, Rock, Walworth, and Waukesha counties.

US and UK Trying to 'Iraq' Russia - What's Really Happening

Whether Theresa May comprehends the situation, whether she resolves the internal issues, whether she's the person who's being pushed towards this decision, to blow up this scandal, it's a whole different question. However, the fact that the UK and the US share the opinion that Russia basically posts a chemical weapon threat to practically the entire world is truly incredibly disturbing. Why? Because it's obvious they're trying to create a brand-new model for the demonization of Russia. They're trying to take the pressure on Russia to a whole new level, trying to convince the world that Russia is dangerous not just because of how they've "wronged Ukraine," or because they've "annexed Crimea," but because they threaten the world with chemical weapons.

Emergency Russian Gas Purchases Are Now a Huge Embarrassment for London

The spy poisoning scandal turned into a diplomatic row and now threatens to spill into energy issues, after UK Prime Minister Theresa May said that Britain was looking “to other countries” for its gas supplies.

The UK has gas supply contracts with Russia’s gas giant Gazprom, and although the British dependence on Russian gas supply is not as high as that of other European countries, the UK still relies on some Russian gas for its energy needs. The UK has also imported a liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Russia’s newly started Yamal project, and re-exported another LNG cargo originating from Yamal.

For now, UK gas traders remain unconcerned that the UK could run short of nat gas supplies, even shrugging off Prime Minister May’s comments that the UK would be looking for other gas suppliers.

During question time in Parliament on Wednesday, May said that “I can reassure … that in looking at our gas supplies we are indeed looking to other countries.”

Putin ‘extremely concerned’ over UK’s ‘destructive, provocative’ stance in Skripal case – Kremlin

In his first public reaction to the UK measures against Russia in ex-spy Sergei Skripal’s poisoning, President Vladimir Putin said he was “extremely concerned” by the “destructive and provocative” stance of the UK.
A “detailed discussion” of the current crisis in Russian-UK relations was held when Putin met with top officials from the Russian government, military and security services on Thursday, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said. “Extreme concern was expressed about the destructive and provocative stance taken by the British side,” the spokesman added.

It was Putin’s first public reaction since the UK announced steps against Moscow on Wednesday. Accusing Russia of using a chemical weapon on British soil, Prime Minister Theresa May said the UK was expelling 23 diplomats, limiting ties and freezing Russian state assets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This attempted poisoning certainly does not have what I would characterize as a "Putin signature" on it.

Why would he order it done, and so sloppily that it hit over 20 people more than the intended victims, Skripal and his daughter?!?

What in heaven's name would he - or Russia - have gained by it, when the damage Skripal inflicted on the Russian intel infrastructure happened years ago?!?

The short answer is, nothing.

But we have a very embattled British Prime Minister, perhaps, intending to deflect some very real British rage and frustration about how she is handling the Brexit issue with the EU; perhaps she thought that blaming and shaming the Russian government for something it may well not have done was "just the ticket".

And what is that old phrase of Rom Emanuel's "Never let a good crisis go to waste"?!?

There are a large number of people who might have wanted to see Skripal dead.

We don't know enough about what really happened to lay the foundation for an evidence chain yet; that may only come about when Skripal and his daughter are conscious enough to give investigators a timeline about when they became ill, and what they noticed right before that happened.

But the dismissal of diplomats, coupled with sanctions, can be a very nasty prelude to a potential shooting war with Russia, which would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing in the world for the west to do right now, for innumerable reasons.

I am hoping Nato Secretary General Stoltenberg's refusal to "drink the Koolaid" on this issue yesterday, by NOT invocing Article 5 of the UN Charter, as May begged him to do yesterday, will through heaping amounts of ice-cold water over this whole "Russia did it" thing.

AIPAC is suddenly getting a lot of bad press, in Jewish papers and ‘Washington Post’

One of the pleasurable surprises of the AIPAC conference early this month — the conclave of the leading Israel lobby group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee — was how much bad press the organization got. It’s becoming almost fashionable to criticize the lobby group for its enforcement of lockstep political support for Israel in Washington, and for its Soviet-style policy on access by the press.

These criticism are finally showing up in the mainstream press. The press has been licensed by the damage done to another powerful lobby group, the National Rifle Association, by mere high school students. It senses the same on-the-path-to-pariah status may await AIPAC, more than a decade after Walt and Mearsheimer published their book The Israel Lobby.

Facebook ‘Hid Webpages’ And Bragged About Ability To Influence Elections

While many leftists in the United States are still screeching about “election meddling” by Russia, they may want to take a long look at Facebook. The social media giant actually hid webpages and bragged about its ability to influence elections.

According to The Intercept, when Mark Zuckerberg was asked if Facebook had influenced the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, the founder, and CEO dismissed the notion that the site even had such power as “crazy.” It was a disingenuous remark. Facebook’s website had, in fact, an entire section devoted to touting the “success stories” of political campaigns that used the social network to influence electoral outcomes. That page, however, is now gone, even as the 2018 congressional primaries get underway.

Britain is now threatening to seize Russian oligarchs' luxury real estate after ex-spy's poisoning

As British investigators examine the theory that a deadly Soviet-developed nerve agent was put into the luggage of Yulia Skripal before she flew from Moscow to Britain on March 3 to visit her father, former Russian spy Sergei Skripal, the aftermath of their March 4 poisoning is spreading throughout Russia and the West. The Skripals, father and daughter, were found unconscious on a park bench in Salisbury, and 12 days later they are still in critical condition at a hospital. Britain blames the Kremlin for the brazen nerve agent attack.

BEX ALERT - How Russian trolls smeared Sen. John McCain as 'traitor' on social media

Russian Twitter trolls, now purged from the social network, routinely spread insults and conspiracy theories smearing Sen. John McCain as a "traitor" and a "RINO," Republican In Name Only, during his 2016 reelection campaign and beyond.

Webmaster addition: With the release of the tapes of radio broadcasts McCain made on behalf of North Vietnam, it doesn't take a Russian to realize he was a traitor.

Amazon turns over record amount of customer data to US law enforcement: The company's fifth transparency report reveals more customer data was handed to US law enforcement in the first-half of last year than ever before.

Amazon has turned over a record amount of customer data to the US government in the first-half of last year in response to demands by law enforcement.

The retail and cloud giant quietly posted its latest transparency report on Dec. 29 without notice -- as it has with previous reports -- detailing the latest figures for the first six months of 2017.

The report revealed 1,936 different requests between January and June 2017, a rise from the previous bi-annual report.

The company received:

1,618 subpoenas, of which the company fully complied with 42 percent;
229 search warrants, of which the company fully complied with 44 percent;
89 other court orders, of which the company fully complied with 52 percent.
It's not clear why there was a spike in requests during the half-year period. An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It's simple, doing business with Amazon; just consider it a 4th intelligence arm of the US government, in its "disclosures" to them, ,and that should govern your buying habits and decisions in using them.

Of A Type Developed By Liars

I have now received confirmation from a well placed FCO source that Porton Down scientists are not able to identify the nerve gas as being of Russian manufacture, and have been resentful of the pressure being placed on them to do so. Porton Down would only sign up to the formulation “of a type developed by Russia” after a rather difficult meeting where this was agreed as a compromise formulation. The Russians were allegedly researching, in the “Novichok” programme a generation of nerve agents which could be produced from commercially available precursors such as insecticides and fertilisers. This substance is a “novichok” in that sense. It is of that type. Just as I am typing on a laptop of a type developed by the United States, though this one was made in China.

Lee notes in the report that the current figure for the cost of mining one bitcoin is $8,038, while BTC is trading marginally higher than that at press time.

Now, the last doubts about the perpetrators of Russia in the poisoning of the Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal should be cleared up. As the British government announced today, the ID card of Russian President Vladimir Putin was discovered at the crime scene in Salisbury.

According to British Prime Minister Theresa May, the ID card was only found in a re-investigation of the crime scene because it was under a leaf.

"Russia now has 24 hours to deliver Vladimir Putin to be interviewed in London," the British government said. "Otherwise, we'll take that as a guilty admission."

BEX ALERT - Russia blamed for attacks on U.S. power grid starting in 2016

The Trump administration has blamed the Russian government for a series of cyber attacks targeting American and European nuclear power plants and other critical utilities dating back at least two years – raising fears that the Kremlin could disrupt the West’s critical infrastructure in the event of a conflict.

Since at least 2016, hotel and motel staff have been spying on guests and notifying law enforcement of anyone that dresses inappropriately for their age or has lower quality clothing.

Unfortunately, asking for extra towels or having lots of alcohol in your room is only the tip of the iceberg.

Hotel & motel staff will contact police for almost anything

Welcome to police state America 2018, where hotel and motel staff will notify law enforcement for almost anything.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Interesting, how the hospitality industry has been turned into the "spyspitality" business, courtesy of the DHS; I don't travel all that well at 68, but upon reading this, I think we will arrange to only stay with trusted family and friends, henceforward.

Highly Contested Defective Bullet Proof Vest Case Ends in Victory for Whistleblower

The U.S. Department of Justice, whistleblower Aaron Westrick, Ph.D., and Toyobo, Co., Ltd. announced a settlement in one of the most hotly contested False Claims Act qui tam cases in American history. The settlement ends a 13-year legal battle over whether Toyobo conspired to sell unsafe Zylon bullet proof vests to American police departments, federal law enforcement agencies and the U.S. military.

Toyobo agreed to pay the United States $66 million to settle allegations that it violated the False Claims Act. Dr. Westrick will obtain a qui tam whistleblower reward of $5.77 million.

The case originated in 2001, when Toyobo informed Second Chance Body Armor (“SCBA”), formerly the largest bullet proof vest company in the United States, that Zylon may experience degradation.

How Israel is becoming the world’s top cyber superpower

Although Israel makes no cars of its own, the world's top auto-security companies are all Israeli. The country also receives roughly one-fifth of the world's global private investment in cyber security. As independent and state-sponsored hackers wreak havoc, Israel continues to revolutionize its military and lead the way in the field.

To start, the Israeli Defense Force recruits the best and brightest coders and hackers as teens, to funnel them into their elite cyber warfare units.

“Because going to the service is compulsory, you can look at the Israeli army as the largest HR organization in the world,” said Roni Zehavi, the CEO of CyberSpark, a government initiative that serves as an innovation incubator.

While they always stopped short of official allegations in the past, US officials have, since 2016, repeatedly insinuated that Russia had been trying to hack the US electrical grid. Thursday say the Trump Administration directly making those allegations for the first time.

This new report appears to be timed to come out with new US sanctions against Russia, which cited “malicious cyberattacks” as one of their justifications. The allegations, however, stem from accusations which have been out since the Obama Administration-era, and have long since been discredited.

The report itself is largely just a whitepaper on how hacking in general works, with scant mention of what Russia is even alleged to have done. The report dates the incidents to “since 2016,” however, and the description clearly mirrors the much vaunted Burlington Electric hack in Vermont in 2016.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would politely suggest that the Trump administration has "jumped the proverbial shark" with this accusation, which absolutely cannot be proven.

IF this was a trial balloon to get the American public to buy in to an actual shooting war with Russia, it was way too weighted down with the lead of illogic and massive inconsistencies to succeeed.

That the Administration would actually think the American people would buy in to this, is more than a little terrifying.

How Many Politicians Can You Buy with $6.3 Billion Dollars?

Grant Smith, the author of Big Israel: How Israel’s Lobby Moves America, reveals the revenue of the Israeli lobby’s will reach $6.3 billion in 2020, with 17,000 employees and 414,000 volunteers! (Please re-read that statement.) The purpose of the lobby is to influence the US government to serve its foreign-policy objectives and fund its military.

[It is understandable that the Israel government would desire this outcome, but it is unfortunate that the Israel lobby seeks to label those who criticize this relationship as "Anti-Semitic”. That is like saying anyone who criticizes US foreign policy or monetary policy is anti-American.

The Neocon Full Court Press For War Is Here

The events of the past two weeks have been stunning. Since Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled new ‘doomsday’ weapon systems at his State of the Union address, the West has gone completely bonkers.

In the words of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, “I simply don’t have any normal terms left to describe all this,”

With the U.K. expelling Russian diplomats over the poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury last week, the push to isolate Russia and create conditions for a World War is here.

The questions are Who is behind this? And Why?

Theresa May’s response is a joke. This is a woman who can’t stand up to EU shakedown artists over the mildest of disagreements in Brexit talks but can grandstand to high heaven over an incident with no evidence of Russian action.

China Dumps Treasurys As Foreigners Buy Near Record Stocks

Recent concerns about a Chinese liquidation of its Treasury holdings in advance of, or in response to, a trade war appeared to have been greatly exaggerated one month ago, because according to the Treasury International Capital data from one month ago, China had actually added $8.3 Billion to its holdings in December, bringing the total to $1184.9BN, $26 billion more than a year ago. Meanwhile, we reported that the real seller was Japan, which dumped $22.6 billion in TSYs, bringing its total to just over $1.061 trillion, the lowest since the start of 2012.

Fast forward to today when the "China is liquidating treasurys" narrative is set for a comeback, because according to the latest just released TIC data, in the first month of 2018, Chinese Treasury holdings declined by $16.7 billion (a number which recall is price adjusted), to $1.168 trillion, the lowest since July of 2017 and the biggest monthly drop since September.

The Greatest Threat to Campus Free Speech is Coming From Dianne Feinstein and her Military-Contractor Husband

There is no shortage of American pundits who love to denounce “PC” speech codes that restrict and punish the expression of certain ideas on college campuses. What these self-styled campus-free-speech crusaders typically — and quite tellingly — fail to mention is that the most potent such campaigns are often devoted to outlawing or otherwise punishing criticisms of Israel. The firing by the University of Illinois of Professor Steven Salatia for his “uncivil” denunciations of the Israeli war on Gaza — a termination that was privately condoned by Illinois Democratic Senator Dick Durbin — is merely illustrative of this long–growing trend.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), a longtime outspoken defender of consumer rights and critic of Wall Street banks, condemned Wells Fargo on Thursday for giving its CEO a 35 percent pay raise following several scandals at the bank, and slammed executive Tim Sloan when he criticized her remarks.

Warren tweeted her outrage after regulatory documents revealed Sloan's 2017 pay rose significantly from the previous year, even as Wells Fargo was facing rebuke after its employees opened millions of fraudulent accounts in customers' names. The bank has been forced to pay nearly $200 million in fines due to its actions.

The bank was also sanctioned this week by regulators over another scandal in which it signed up and charged customers for auto insurance that they didn't need or request. Wells Fargo will have to give refunds to about 570,000 consumers.

In January, Sloan admitted that the bank was unsure whether it was operating without continued widespread fraudulence by its employees.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I suppose Warren must be congratulated for her magnificent grasp of the obvious; but what is she actually doing in Congress to make actions by financial institutions like Wells Fargo stop?!?

Were I a current customer of Wells Fargo, after all these scandals, I would make sure to close my account, taking my money elsewhere, and be very politely vocal about why this was happening.

But Sloan behaved as all the one percenters nearly always behave; creating illegal schemes to scam money out of customers, and getting pretty much away with it with impunity.

He knows that having most likely "greased the wheels" of both parties to lay off him and his practices, by way of significant, overt and covert donations, he had purchased immunity for any crimes which he may have committed, or upon which he had personally signed off.

The Glaring Evidence That Free Speech Is Threatened on Campus

At a recent Intelligence Squared debate, an audience filled an auditorium at Yale University to weigh the timely proposition, “Free speech is threatened on campus.” The debate concerned higher education generally, not just the host institution. And at the event’s conclusion, having heard arguments on both sides of the question, 66 percent of the crowd agreed: free speech is threatened. That represented a 17-point shift from a poll taken as the event began. The evidence is that persuasive.

One of the losers in the debate was Professor Shaun Harper of the University of Pennsylvania, who heads its Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education. He began by noting that “there has been a significant increase in the demand for our campus climate work” since last semester’s protests. In fact, he added, “this past December, we brought together 8,000 college presidents and other senior leaders who came to us for guidance on how to respond to racism on their campuses.”
