When Jews stopped being American

Zionists may imagine that this is to their advantage. For anti-Zionists, it is an example of what was foreseen and then experienced by Jews around the world as the political Zionist movement took root.

From Edwin Montagu to Rabbi Elmer Berger to American Jewish Committee presidents Joseph Proskauer and Jacob Blaustein, the conflation of the ethnic and faith identity of Judaism (already a difficult combination) to a nationality was seen as a long-acting poison.

Montagu wrote to his fellow UK Cabinet members in 1917 — when considering issuing the Balfour Declaration — that “Zionism has always seemed to me to be a mischievous political creed…”

Tom Friedman condemns Iran for shooting protesters, but finds it ‘easy’ to defend Israel for doing same

demonstrators since it began cracking down November 15.

The numbers are not much better from Israel’s violent response to the Gaza protests over the last 20 months. Human rights agencies have characterized Israel’s live-fire policy as a violation of humanitarian law. The United Nations found last March that Israel killed 183 civilians who posed no threat to Israel and wounded another 6000 people. Amnesty International said Israel was pursuing a deliberate policy of maiming civilians, causing untold physical and psychological damage, and called for a world-wide arms embargo on Israel. The casualties have included journalists and paramedics.

Those protests are aimed at breaking Israel’s 12 year siege of Gaza, which has rendered the strip unlivable, and granting Palestinians equal rights to Israeli Jews.

Backing two-state solution, Democrats deplore equal rights, deny the Nakba, and say Jews must never be a minority in Israel

n recent days Trump and the Republican Party have done their utmost to cast the Democrats as anti-Israel. In his speech to an Israel lobby group on Saturday night, Trump said Democrats were harboring the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign (BDS). And last week when the Democratic majority in the House passed a resolution affirming the two-state solution and expressing mild criticism of the settlement project, Republicans lambasted Democrats as anti-Israel.

The Democrats are clearly worried about the charge. The party’s base is beginning to fracture on the Israel question. Polls show younger Democrats are highly supportive of the idea of conditioning aid to Israel; and three Democratic presidential candidates have said they are open to doing so. The House resolution specifically ruled out conditioning aid, saying the $3.8 billion we send Israel is “ironclad” at a “critical” moment in history, in Rep. Ted Deutch’s words.

Palestine artwork stolen and hidden at the ICC

A Palestinian art exhibition was stolen last week during the 18th session of the Assembly of the States Parties of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

Hosted by the State of Palestine and Palestinian Human Rights Organisation Al-Haq, the exhibition featured MEMO’s Palestinian cartoonist Mohammad Sabaaneh’s artwork as part of an initiative on the impact of the criminal policies and practices of the Israeli occupation on the victims in Palestine.

According to the International Middle East Media Centre, Sabaaneh’s graphic political masterpieces were removed without authorisation from the hallways of the World Forum, sparking widespread condemnation.

The State of Palestine has been a member of the ICC since 2015 and has brought several key cases before the court.

Al-Haq and its partners have also submitted a file on crimes committed in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

‘King’ Trump lashes US Jews for not loving Israel enough

Rabid Zionist Donald Trump has proved once again that you can stand up in a room full of Jewish supporters and spew out anti-Semitic tropes with complete immunity as long as you give unconditional support to Israel. The US President, who earlier this year embraced the title “King of Israel”, has now accused American Jews of not “loving Israel enough.”

Addressing the Israeli American Council national conference in Florida, Trump first launched a blistering attack on the Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar for what he called her “despicable rhetoric” about Israel, before unleashing a series of turbo-charged anti-Semitic tropes at his largely Jewish audience.

Trump's antisemitism decree tramples on free speech rights, advocates say

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order adopting a controversial definition of antisemitism that free speech advocates say will stifle Palestinian rights activism on college campuses.

The executive order, signed by the president on Wednesday afternoon, extends current anti-discrimination civil rights laws at the Department of Education to cover Judaism.

It also orders the department to adopt the working definition of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) of antisemitism when considering claims of antisemitic abuse.

Palestinian rights advocates have long rejected IHRA's definition, saying that it could be employed to censor speech critical of Israel's political policies.

Vatican Caught Using Charity Donations To Cover Budget Shortfalls

While Pope Francis has long preached about the ills of economic inequality and sins of capitalism, the Catholic church has been robbing Peter's Pence to the tune of over $50 million annually to plug holes in their out-of-control budget - after paying over $3 billion in pedophile priest settlements around the world over several decades.

According to the Wall Street Journal, most of the roughly $55 million the church takes in annually goes towards "plugging the hole in the Vatican’s own administrative budget, while as little as 10% is spent on charitable works."

The little-publicized breakdown of how the Holy See spends Peter’s Pence, known only among senior Vatican officials, is raising concern among some Catholic Church leaders that the faithful are being misled about the use of their donations, which could further hurt the credibility of the Vatican’s financial management under Pope Francis. -Wall Street Journal

Webmaster's Commentary:

WOW!! I knew the numbers were awful, but this is horrific.

So Pope Francis, a thought; it doesn't come from the mountain, but it is something you might want to at least consider.

Rather than celibate men, to become priests, why not reach out to married men and women with healthy, flourishing families?!? The greatest advert ever, for being both a happy Christian, is having a morally responsible, loving Christian family, which is flourishing.

You are welcome, Your Holiness!! :-)

Israel’s Case Against Human Rights Watch Reveals How Its Normalizing West Bank Land Theft

In November 2019, following a long legal battle, Israel revoked the work visa and deported Human Rights Watch (HRW) director Omar Shakir. According to HRW, Israel argued that the state, “revoked the work visa of Shakir, a United States citizen, in May 2018 on the assertion that his advocacy violated a 2017 law that bars entry to people who advocate a boycott of Israel or its settlements in the occupied West Bank.”

HRW claims that this is not true and that the organization does not call for the boycott of Israel. On their website, they do claim, however, that, “Human Rights Watch urges businesses to stop operating in illegal settlements as part of their global duty to avoid complicity in human rights abuses.”

Congress can’t say “occupation”

Republicans voted overwhelmingly Friday for Israeli apartheid in the West Bank.

They did so by voting against House Resolution 326 which backs the two-state solution and rejects Israeli annexation of the West Bank.

While the so-called two-state solution may be defunct, Republicans’ silence on what would replace it suggests they’re fine with Israel entrenching the apartheid system it has been establishing in the West Bank over the last five decades.

They certainly aren’t bubbling with excitement about the prospect of one person, one vote.

Trump appeases Israel lobby with executive order

Just days after US President Donald Trump spewed vicious anti-Semitic rhetoric, Israel lobby groups are celebrating his executive order taking aim at supporters of Palestinian rights.

Israel and its most extreme defenders are not bothered by the president’s anti-Jewish rhetoric as long as it comes wrapped in unquestioning support for Israel.

Trump’s order, which he signs today, is evidence of that support. It is also a dangerous escalation of the attack on basic free speech rights.

Is ICC about to slam the door on justice for Palestine?

In the decade since Palestinians first petitioned the International Criminal Court, around 3,500 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Around 800 were children.

That tacit support has been more than symbolic.

Rights groups slam Trump's plan to sign anti-Semitism order

Palestinian groups, free speech advocates and liberal Jewish organisations blasted, on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump's plan to reportedly sign an executive order that would threaten to withhold federal funding from educational institutions that fail to combat a broadened definition of anti-Semitism.

According to the New York Times, which first reported the plan, the Trump administration is expected to effectively redefine Judaism as a race or nationality. It will also direct the Department of Education to consider the State Department's definition of anti-Semitism when evaluating complaints of discrimination under Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination "on the ground of race, colour or national origin" but not religion.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 12, 2019: MILITANTS PUSH SYRIAN ARMY BACK IN SOUTHERN IDLIB

On December 11, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Army and the special forces unit, known as the “Red Bands”, attacked and captured the area of al-Katibat al-Mahjura in southeastern Idlib. Units of the Syrian Army deployed there were caught off-guard and withdrew after a few hours of clashes.

Al-Katibat al-Mahjura [the abandoned base in Arabic] is a former base of the Syrian Air Defense Forces. It overlooks the village of Umm al-Tinah controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. When the army captured the base last week, pro-government sources speculated that it may use it to advance further into southern Idlib. However, another week of inactivity allowed militants to regroup and take this facility back.

It’s interesting to note that militants’ advance took place amid another round of the Astana format talks, which are designed to find a political solution of the conflict. Nonetheless, as long as al-Qaeda-style groups operate in Idlib, this will not be possible.

Betraying the Constitution: Who Will Protect Us from an Unpatriotic Patriot Act?

While Congress subjects the nation to its impeachment-flavored brand of bread-and-circus politics, our civil liberties continue to die a slow, painful death by a thousand cuts.

Case in point: while Americans have been fixated on the carefully orchestrated impeachment drama that continues to monopolize headlines, Congress passed and President Trump signed into law legislation extending three key provisions of the USA Patriot Act, which had been set to expire on December 15, 2019.

Once again, to no one’s surprise, the bureaucrats on both sides of the aisle—Democrats and Republicans alike—prioritized political grandstanding over principle and their oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution.

The Warfare State Lied About Afghanistan, Iraq, & Syria. They Will Lie Again!

Authored by Tho Bishop via The Mises Institute,

This week saw the Washington Post published a bombshell report titled “The Afghanistan Papers,” highlighting the degree to which the American government lied to the public about the ongoing status of the war in Afghanistan. Within the thousands of pages, consisting of internal documents, interviews, and other never-before-released intel, is a vivid depiction of a Pentagon painfully aware of the need to keep from the public the true state of the conflict and the doubts, confusion, and desperation of decision-makers spanning almost 20 years of battle.

Webmaster's Commentary:

At 70, I have a very clear memory of the Vietnam war; many of the young men drafted, who were my friends and sometimes brother and sister musicians, never made it back alive, or were mentally, or physically, or both, shattered beyond repair, for the rest of their lives.

I understood, that the premise under which this horrendous, genocidal war was being fought, had utterly no relationship to what we were told by the TV; Radio, and government-owned writers.

In short, what this US government does, is lie; obfuscate; and throw up smoke screens, so that the US citizens will not, clearly, be able to look at the long view, and see what is really going on.

It is generally the alternative media which does this, although kudos to WaPo, for having published this article, because it states, very clearly, what many Americans have suspected for quite some time now; politicians, in order to keep their buddies in the military industrial complex happy, is "arrange" for this country to be in almost perpetual war. Earnings boom for those companies, allowing them to give even more support to candidates who see the world as they do, financially, and this is their perspective, and philosophy:

1. Destabilize an existing, not-pro-US government with one which is.

2. Make sure that the resources of that country are expropriated by companies with which they are "embedded", for this kind of work, with the people living over or around those resources, getting precious little compensation for them, if any.

3. Insure that the funds in which these resources are sold, are only US dollars.

When Karl Marx made the observation that all wars are economic in their origins, the man was absolutely correct.

The FBI - Pushed By John Brennan - Lied To The Court Seven Times To Spy On The Trump Campaign

When Hillary Clinton was defeated in the U.S. presidential election the relevant powers launched a campaign to delegitimize the President elect Donald Trump.

The ultimate aim of the cabal is to kick him out of office and have a reliable replacement, like the Vice-President elect Pence, take over. Should that not be possible it is hoped that the delegitimization will make it impossible for Trump to change major policy trajectories especially in foreign policy. A main issue here is the reorientation of the U.S. military complex and its NATO proxies from the war of terror towards a direct confrontation with main powers like Russia and China.

A major role in directing the plot has fallen to Obama's consigliere John Brennan, the current director of the CIA.

Israel says defense officials caught in major bribery case

Israel’s Justice Ministry said on Tuesday it plans to prosecute suspects involved in a “serious corruption affair” in one of the country’s defense bodies.

Most details of the case, including the names of the suspects, were unavailable because of a gag order.

But a statement by the ministry said public servants working in the unnamed defense body allegedly received millions in bribes from companies with the aim of promoting sales deals with Israel’s defense establishment.

The suspects are to be charged with bribery, fraud, breach of trust and money laundering, among others offenses, pending a hearing.

The announcement comes after the ministry said last week it would serve indictments for corruption charges in a $2 billion German submarine deal that roped in close associates of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as the country’s former navy chief.

The justice ministry claims those accused in the submarine case personally benefited from the purchase.

Add Your Name: Tell Donald Trump to Stop Using Jews to Shut Down Free Speech

After a week of antisemitic speech, Trump is now signing an executive order to withhold money from college campuses that tolerate “anti-Israel” movements. This is not about keeping Jews safe. It’s just more antisemitism.

The order defines Judaism as a “nationality,” promoting the classically bigoted idea that American Jews are not, well, American.

Donald Trump cannot be trusted to define antisemitism for Jews. He incites deadly white nationalist violence against our communities. He calls us disloyal. When speaking to American Jews, he refers to Israel as “your country” because he believes we do not really belong here. Conflating criticism of the Israeli government with antisemitism is actually antisemitic because it implies that all Jews agree with, and are responsible for, Israel’s actions.

Harvey Weinstein Reaches $47 Million Settlement, Wiping The Civil Slate Clean

Money talks and sexual predators walk.

That appears to be the anticlimatic end of the #MeToo story arc, which started with Harvey Weinstein, and is set to conclude with a multi-million cash settlement ending effectively all civil cases against the former Hollywood mogul.

According to the WSJ, Harvey Weinstein, his former associates, insurers and accusers have all reached a nearly $47 million tentative settlement of virtually all the civil cases pending against him, about $25 million of which will compensate women who have accused the Hollywood producer of sexual misconduct.

Under the terms of the agreement, Weinstein and his former associates won't admit wrongdoing; the deal still needs to be approved by a bankruptcy judge and a judge overseeing a proposed class-action lawsuit. Even better for the "not guilty" Weinstein, the bulk of the settlement money will be paid not by him but by his insurance policies, including those held by his former studio.

Pelosi-Approved USMCA Trade Deal Enshrines Big Tech's 'Right to Censor'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said during a press conference Tuesday that she "lost" her fight to remove a provision granting big tech companies expanded immunity in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) told Breitbart News that they still have significant reservations over the immunity's inclusion in the trade deal.

Breitbart News reported last week that Pelosi expressed concern over the USMCA inclusion of language that is even broader than Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. The provision, Article 19.17, would grant greater legal immunity for big tech companies to censor, or moderate, any content compared to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

SoCal Church Displays Holy Family As "Caged Refugees" At The Border

A Nativity scene in the southern California city of Claremont depicting the Holy Family as a separated family held in cages at the U.S. border is sparking controversy and conversations over President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

“If this isn’t your church’s politics, you’ve got the wrong faith,” tweeted music journalist Zel McCarthy.

Vanity Fair writer Anthony Breznican said that the Claremont United Methodist Church tableau, depicting Joseph and Mary in cages on either side of a caged baby Jesus Christ, was an accurate representation of the meaning of the Bible story.

“I love the Nativity story,” said Breznican.

“I love it not because it is warm and fuzzy, but because it is about perseverance against cruelty.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

There are great problems, both theologically and geopolitically, with conflating the Nativity with Illegal Immigration.

If my memory of the Nativity story is correct, Mary and Joseph were going back to Bethlehem, due to a tax census by the Roman Government; they were following the law of the land, when Mary went into labor, and delivered Jesus in Bethlehem.

Illegal immigrants are not a race, or a "shade" of humankind; they start out having broken the law, by crossing the US border illegally.

States are becoming economically swamped, by trying to fill unfunded mandates for housing and education; and even religious entities cannot keep up, due to their increasing numbers, and demands for services.

Unvetted immigration translates to squalor in our streets, a huge rise in homelessness.

Is there something this country could do to forestall this?!? The short answer is, yes, if they place all the money going to these endless wars without end, to immigration support, legal, or otherwise, education, and housing, this could happen.

But I frankly wouldn't hold my breath; this will only occur... when pigs discover that they are aerodynamic.

NATO Secretary General Targets "Rising China": Why Cold War Newspeak Never Went Away

Authored by Cynthia Chung via The Strategic Culture Foundation,

On December 3rd, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that NATO must address the “security implications” of China’s rise as a “military power”, and in true Orwellian doublespeak, insisted that he did not want to make an adversary out of Beijing but rather was interested in analysing how best to respond to the challenges China poses in a balanced way…by announcing it a ‘security threat’.

But we know this is not the whole story.

Of course no bully likes it when their victim suddenly learns the art of self-defense, and who would be more paranoid of aggression than those who have been practising it for years on others only to increasingly find the tables turned.

This western paranoia of the communist boogeyman has its roots in Churchill’s Iron Curtain speech which ushered in the Cold War.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the identification of China as a "security threat", NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has created this state between NATO and China, which was one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly profoundly stupid things he could have said.

And forgive me, but isn't the acronym for NATO, supposed to be NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANISATION?!?

I know that NATO has been keen to re-invent itself, post world-war II, but ...THIS?!?

There is one thing you can still observe about the Chinese people today; the love of trade, and competition is still in their DNA, and I say that as a very positive, complementary observation.

The Chinese do not want a world war; they want world trade, and there is no better testimony to that, than President Xi's "Belt and Road" concept, which streamlines getting goods back and forth from Asia to Europe, in record time, cutting costs, and cutting red tape.

I just wish that Stoltenberg would have not identified China as a threat, but as a great potential business and economic partner; I firmly believe that the road to peace, is economic empowerment; excellent education; and healthy competition.

So Jans (and BTW, we never talk any more!! :-(), in this characterization of China as a threat, you have thrown the country back into the orbits of Russia; the Middle East; and South America; PLEASE don't tell me that this was the "design intent" of your statement here?!?

Because, unfortunately, you 've just "stepped in it", big time, sir.

North Korea Says US Has Nothing To Offer If Nuke Talks Resumed

A week after North Korea resumed its "dotard" insults at President Trump and their ambassador to the United Nations said further denuclearization talks are no longer needed, Reuters reported Thursday via Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that, even if denuclearization talks resumed between both countries, the Trump administration has nothing to offer:

North Korea's foreign ministry criticized the Trump administration for meeting with officials at the UN Security Council and suggested that it would be ready to respond to any corresponding measures that Washington imposes.

"The United States said about corresponding measure at the meeting, as we have said we have nothing to lose and we are ready to respond to any corresponding measure that the US chooses," said KCNA citing a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The real problem, to which President Trump appears to be utterly tone-deaf, is that issue of "quid pro quo", meaning, "If YOU do something, I will reciprocate by doing something."

But the American posture appears to be, to both Kim Jung Un, and North Korea; the following; "You ... do everything we have asked; then we will consider doing something for you."

This is the absolute antithesis of true negotiations ; and what President Trump may reap from this, is more nuclear North Korean tests, greater North Korean Nuclear capabilities, and more protection from China.

Larry C. Johnson: The Fabricated “Predicate” to Spy on the Trump Campaign

While Inspector General Michael Horowitz did a pretty fair job of documenting the crimes of the FBI in getting the green light from a Federal Judge to spy on Carter Page as an ostensible agent of the Russians, he utterly failed to investigate the cornerstone (aka the “predicate”) for launching this whole sordid affair.

Experts: Israeli System Constitutes Apartheid, Crime against Humanity

Analyses by Professors Richard Falk and Virginia Tilley confirm that Israel is perpetrating ‘apartheid,’ a system of racism and discrimination that under international law constitutes a ‘crime against humanity.’ The authors conclude that Israel’s practice of racial-ethnic domination is the fundamental obstacle to peace.

They state that rather than focus on the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza and an illusory “two-state solution,” those seeking a longterm solution must focus on ending Israel’s apartheid system.

How NASA's Next Mars Rover Will Hunt for Alien Life

Spotting signs of long-dead life is a tall order for a lonely robot on a faraway world, but NASA's next Mars rover should be up to the challenge, mission team members said.

NASA's 2020 Mars rover is scheduled to launch next summer and touch down in February 2021 inside the Red Planet's 28-mile-wide (45 kilometers) Jezero Crater, which scientists think hosted a lake and river delta in the ancient past.

The six-wheeled robot will then scour the area for potential biosignatures. This work will consist of observing Jezero rocks in fine textural detail and using several spectrometers to map geochemistry precisely onto that texture, Mars 2020 deputy project scientist Katie Stack Morgan told reporters today (Dec. 10) here at the annual fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

The Israel Lobby’s Hidden Hand in the Theft of Iraqi and Syrian Oil

“We want to bring our soldiers home. But we did leave soldiers because we’re keeping the oil,” President Trump stated on November 3, before adding, “I like oil. We’re keeping the oil.”

Though he had promised a withdrawal of U.S. troops from their illegal occupation of Syria, Trump shocked many with his blunt admission that troops were being left behind to prevent Syrian oil resources from being developed by the Syrian government and, instead, kept in the hands of whomever the U.S. deemed fit to control them, in this case, the U.S.-backed Kurdish-majority militia known as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Who Spied on Julian Assange?

The Julian Assange drama drags on. Though he continues to sit in a top security British prison awaiting developments in his expected extradition to the United States, the Spanish High Court has been given permission to interview him. Assange is claiming that the Spanish company contracted with by the Ecuadorean government to do embassy security in London spied on him using both audio and video devices. The recordings apparently included conversations with Assange’s lawyers outlining his defense strategies, which is an illegal activity under Spanish law. The prosecution has also indicted the company director, former military officer David Morales, on associated criminal charges of bribing a government official and money laundering. Morales has said that he is innocent.

Why Trump's New Executive Order Matters

The Trump administration and Betsy DeVos, an heiress who was given the Department of Education because of her large donations to the GOP, have been fighting Israel’s wars on campus for months now.

Last September, the federal government began investigating the lessons taught by various professors at prestigious schools like Duke and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. They wanted to ensure that none of the university’s public grants were going towards hosting lectures that give the Palestinian side of the story.

What happened to all of the tiny houses for the homeless in Dallas? Curious Texas investigates

The cottages’ residents are chosen from the “most expensive” among the chronically homeless — people who have been on the street for years and who may have been repeatedly hospitalized for addicition and mental health problems.

In 2016, the Morning News reported that it cost taxpayers an estimated $40,000 every year to incarcerate a chronically homeless person in the Dallas County Jail or treat him or her at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

For residents housed at the cottages, that figure drops to $15,000 year, Siburt said.

“Housing is a form of health care,” he said.

VW storing around 300,000 diesels at 37 facilities around U.S.

Volkswagen AG (VOWG_p.DE) has paid more than $7.4 billion to buy back about 350,000 U.S. diesel vehicles through mid-February, a recent court filing shows. The German automaker has been storing hundreds of thousands of vehicles around the United States for months.

Volkswagen has 37 secure storage facilities around the United States housing nearly 300,000 vehicles, the filing from the program’s independent administrator said. The lots include a shuttered suburban Detroit football stadium, a former Minnesota paper mill and a sun-bleached desert graveyard near Victorville, California.

The American Empire Will Fall, Not America Itself

The collapse of an entire nation is as spectacular as it is rare. For a nation to simply cease to exist it must suffer such absolute defeat across the entire spectrum of what constitutes a nation; economically, militarily, culturally, socially and politically.

What is much more common is a transition from existing, prevailing socioeconomic, political and military orders to new ones driven by new, emerging special interests. It can happen quickly and violently, or take place as a long-term process with ups and downs and both constructive and destructive processes intertwining.

For the United States, a massive nation with the third largest population on the planet, the largest military and still currently the largest economy, for it to suffer such full-spectrum defeat is impossible.

Is Zoltan's Market Doomsday Imminent? Here Are The Two Things To Watch

But what are the signs that Pozsar is looking at, to determine that a liquidity crunch is imminent? There are two key leading indicators that serve as an advance warning that all hell may be about to break loose.

The first thing to watch to determine if the repocalypse 2.0 is about to hit, is the repo rate itself.

While the overnight general collateral repo rate remains dormant, the same can not be said about its forward cousin, the "turn" repo rate which covers the year end period of Dec 31-Jan 2, and which as we pointed out last night, has jumped to 4.10% as of Tuesday, and which on Wednesday moved wider by another 5bps to 4.15%, according to Curvature securities.
