1/30/03 Satire or anti-Semitism: For and against

1/31/03 Satire or Anti-Semitism? The cartoonist writes

For far too long, individuals in Israel have evaded criticism of their actions by equating criticism for what they do with hatred for all Jewish people. Anti-Semitism is defined as a hate of Semitic people just because they are Semitic people. Anti-Semitism is race hate because of what people are, and pretty much most people agree that this is wrong. But hate of what individuals DO is not hate of what they ARE. Ariel Sharon is not being criticized for being Jewish, he is being criticized for being a war criminal, for defying the UN far more than Saddam does, for working overtly and covertly to destroy any and all chances for peace in the Mideast, for being a direct and immediate threat to every non-Jewish population in the region, for having weapons of mass destruction, and for using his supporters in the United States to enslave the American taxpayer to support Israel's failure to support itself.

Ariel's shills scream "anti-Semite" whenever any of these unpleasant facts are mentioned. When the story broke about the huge Israeli spy ring and their links to 9-11, Israel's shills screamed "anti-Semite" and demanded newspapers and TV networks not cover the story. When evidence from the security system showed Dr. Philip Zack entering the lab without permission where the Anthrax that had been mailed across the country came from, Israel's shills screamed "anti-Semite" at every mention of Zack's name while Barbara Rosenberg pointed the FBI down the dead-end street leading to Dr. Stephen Hatfill.

Use of the "anti-Semite" smear-tactic allows Mossad operatives an immunity to operate inside the United States undreamed of by any other foreign intelligence service. Can you imagine the KGB announcing that they intended to carry out assassinations inside the US, or the total silence the US mainstream media and government that greeted Israel's admission of the same?

A moment's thought will reveal just how ridiculous it is to equate criticism of an individual with hate of a race. Is criticism of Hitler dismissed as "anti-Aryanism", or criticism of Stalin ignored as being "anti-Slav"? It's silly. And it is equally silly to play the same game by claiming that criticism of Ariel Sharon is "anti-Semitic". Ariel Sharon is master of his own destiny. Of his own free will he has chosen to do what he has done. And much of what he has done bring shame on the entire Jewish people.

The irony is that the same people who are trying go blur the line between criticism of individual actions and hate for an entire people are succeeding. Anti-Semitism is on the rise because the link is constantly being made that if criticism of Ariel Sharon is criticism of the entire Jewish people, then all Jewish people must be like Ariel Sharon.

This is nothing new. Ambitious individuals within the Jewish culture have played this same game for thousands of years, committing crimes and justifying them with the Talmud, then hiding behind their friends and neighbors by claiming criticism of the crime is criticism of the entire people. Eventually the frustration of the people against whom the crimes are being committed reaches a breaking point, and the entire Jewish people once again becomes a target for the crimes committed by only a few individuals.

One need only look at the numerous times throughout history that the Jewish people have been expelled and persecuted to realize that this trick of concealing individual crimes behind claims of race hate goes back a very long time indeed. When one considers the extremely diverse locations and populations in the above list, one immediately realizes that the only common factor in all those confrontations was the Jewish people themselves, used as shields and sacrificial lambs by their own corrupt leaders, just as Ariel Sharon is doing to the Jewish people of today.

Latest dirty trick from the shills!

Peace activists need to be aware of the latest dirty trick the pro-war and pro-Israel people are playing. They are signing peace activists up for various hate groups. You will likely receive an email notice that you have been "invited" to join these groups. There is a button on the bottom of the page to complain about this misuse of your email address, but the button has been hacked to send an acceptance to the invitation, so your email address winds up on a group to be used as propaganda against you.

This is typical of the morals and ethics of the people who want to send your children off to die in their wars.

If you get one of these bogus invites, check the "abuse" button before you hit it, and forward the entire message with message headers to the abuse department of the message board involved. DO NOT USE THE EMBEDDED ABUSE LINK.

The Pentagon claimed to have satellite photographs to prove it. Thus, the waverers and anti-war protesters were silenced. "We now know from declassified documents and satellite photographs taken by a Russian commercial satellite that there were no Iraqi troops poised to attack Saudi. At the time, no one bothered to ask for proof. "No one except Jean Heller, a five-times nominated Pulitzer prize-winning journalist from the St Petersburg Times in Florida, who persuaded her bosses to buy two photos at $1,600 each from the Russian commercial satellite, the Soyuz Karta. Guess what? No massing troops. 1/30/03 Bush Iraq Evidence Lies

1/30/03 Sharon’s Qaeda

1/30/03 Government Policy and False Prosperity : “Government cannot make man richer, but it can make him poorer.” The big lie of capitalism is that everyone can be rich. That is false. Capitalism works only if there is a wealth differential. Capitalism works only if the vast majority of people are intentionally kept poor enough to be forced to take the thousands of menial, distasteful, and dangerous jobs without which society cannot operate. If everyone were millionaires, there would be nobody willing to take out the trash, repair the sewers, or bury the dead. In a capitalist society, a key function of the government is to absorb increases in productivity (with taxes, manufactured debt, and gratuitous regulatory compliance) so that the general population continues to earn only what it needs to live on.

The pro-war faction is trying to pretend that the Peace Movement is a passing fad, that you will get tired, that you will give up hope, that you will quit. YOU CAN PROVE THEM ALL WRONG on February 15th! The people of the world are about to do something that has never before happened, stand up together in unity and tell their rulers to call off a war! ANTI-WAR IS NOT ANTI-AMERICAN

A note of thanks.

I am trying to be low-key about the donations issue and ad sales. But I felt I needed to send a special thanks to all those people who have been donating. The funds coming in are going to help turn this web site into a far more powerful resource for those who, like me, refuse to live with a government that lies to the people, and those who, again like me, are dedicated to stopping the war. Thanks for being a part of the magic.

1/29/03 Ari & I Ohh, Ari, you are so *ucking funny! Iraq invaded Kuwait with US blessing because Kuwait was slant-drilling into Iraq's oil fields. WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY TO MAKE THE WORLD SAFE FROM WAR?

Mr. Bush, it's pronounced "new-clee-ar", not "nuc-u-lar". Nobody is going to take you seriously about Iraq's mythical nuclear threat when you can't even say the word correctly. Look at how the word is spelled, "Nuclear". The 'c' is followed immediately by the 'l'. There is no vowel 'u' between them. You make the whole nation look bad when you do that. The world is laughing at you! We need to have a Constitutionally mandated IQ and literacy test for high office!

Now, with regard to your claim that Iraq is estimated to have such and such weapons, even though nobody can find them, I would like to remind you that it was the official position of the US Government, as reported on PBS and other media, that "Gulf War Syndrome" was triggered NOT by the various injections given to the US soldiers but by being downwind of bombed Iraqi biological weapons storage facilities. Now, unless you have an exact count of what was in those bombed facilities, then it is impossible for the UN to have an accurate estimate of what Iraq has or does not have, even though the US did supply most of that original material. Of course, if you want to come clean and admit that Gulf War Syndrome wasn't caused by being downwind of bombed Iraqi weapons storage depots, that's another matter. But you can't have it both ways. You can't claim that bombing an unknown and unknowable number of Iraq's chemical and biological weapons caused Gulf War Syndrome, then turn around years later and claim to have an accurate count of weapons Iraq is supposed to have.

Finally, with regard to Hydrogen. The Hydrogen/Oxygen fuel cell is not an energy source, it is an energy storage device, like a battery. The production of pure Hydrogen and its cryogenic storage USES energy. Where does that energy come from? Right now, from fossil fuels and nuclear ("new-clee-ar") power. Hydrogen sounds good, but it isn't less polluting; the pollution is simply spewed out somewhere else. It doesn't create power, it simply stores it.

1/28/03 Source of Pentagon Papers Critiques Iraq Coverage "[O]ut of the gobbledygook comes a very clear thing: you can't trust the government; you can't believe what they say; and you can't rely on their judgment. Haldeman, Richard Nixon's Chief of Staff (and, later, convicted felon).

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS STUFF?

The above image is a scan of a piece of Trinitite. This is desert sand that was underneath the explosion of the world's first Atomic bomb. The heat from that blast melted the sand into a green glass, not unlike the Fulgurites that result when lightning hits sandy soil.

Now, imagine an entire nation looking like the above sample, melted into green glass. It's not a fantasy. The US spent $5 trillion dollars building a nuclear deterrent capability that can actually do it, melt an attacking nation into green glass. The USSR knew it, the world knows it, Saddam knows it.

Even if Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, and even if Iraq had the long range ICBMs to reach across the Atlantic with, Iraq would still not be a threat to the US because any attack with a weapon of mass destruction would be national suicide.

Those that insist that Iraq's weapons of mass destruction are a threat that justifies invasion are in essence claiming that the US Government took $5 trillion of your money (over $17,000 from each of you alive today) in a gigantic swindle, because the $5 trillion nuclear deterrent isn't a deterrent after all, that it doesn't work, that nobody is really afraid of it, because they all know it was just a hoax to soak the American taxpayer for another several thousand dollars. Was it all a hoax, Mr. Bush? Did the American people foot a $5 trillion bill for a deterrent system that isn't really a deterrent?

Either the deterrent works or it does not. If it doesn't, then the American taxpayers have been defrauded on a grand scale. But if the nuclear deterrent does work, then Iraq can have all the weapons of mass destruction they want, they just won't dare use them. Maybe they can put them in a museum or something. But they won't dare use them against the United States because they don't want to end up like that piece of green glass at the top of this article. There is no need to invade over the issue of weapons of mass destruction. There never was.

Of course, the issue has shifted. The UN inspectors have found no evidence of weapons of mass destruction. They found some documents ABOUT weapons of mass destruction, but documents are not a weapon of mass destruction (with the sole exception of the 1040 form). The UN inspectors found a bunch of old empty artillery warheads from 1988, but empty warheads are not a weapon of mass destruction, and tests show that these empties were never weapons. Soil samples have tested negative for chemicals or radioactivity indicating weapons development. Iraq has allowed the inspectors to pretty much go everywhere they want without hindrance, even into Saddam's home. Imagine the KGB demanding and getting permission to peek into every closet and drawer in the White House and you will get an idea of just how much Iraq is cooperating. The CIA gave the UN inspectors a list of sites they were convinced had weapons of mass destruction. Nothing.

But Bush still wants his invasion, and since there are no weapons of mass destruction to scare the public into supporting a war of conquest, the issue is changing. Saddam may be cooperating, but he isn't cooperating ENOUGH (as defined by the US). And horror of horrors, Saddam might actually still be ever so slightly resentful of the way he is being bullied around by the US Government. He's only a head of state, why should HE feel insulted by the intrusions into his nation and his home, right?

So, today, Bush and his buddies are trying to spin resentment and a failure to cooperate more than Saddam already has into a reason to invade Iraq and, as the US already admits it plans to do, grab the oil wells.

This plan proves that the oil is the real goal, because if weapons of mass destruction were the real issue, then there would be no need to risk American lives invading Iraq. If Iraq were to have a weapon of mass destruction and use it against the US, the US could just stand back and turn the entire nation into green glass just like that at the top of this article. That's what we all paid that $5 trillion for. And unless the US Government wants to admit that $5 trillion nuclear deterrent is a hoax, then we should use it as it was intended to be used, to deter an attack without having to invade a foreign attacker.

1/28/03 Israel To Pursue Arafat Siege Despite UN Resolution This is an older story but relevant today in that Bush is trying to start a war against Iraq for "not cooperating enough" with a UN Resolution, while Israel (which actually HAS weapons of mass destruction) flagrantly defies UN Resolution after UN Resolution.

1/28/03 Caveat Preemptor! "NOT COOPERATING ENOUGH" AS JUSTIFICATION FOR WAR?

Remember back when Bush started his tirade about Iraq? Iraq, it was claimed, had weapons of mass destruction. They had nukes, they had germs, they had Anthrax (most of which the US gave Saddam in the first place).  The threat of those weapons was the justification for an unprovoked  pre-emptive invasion, unprecedented in US history. Well, it seems that nobody mentions those weapons of mass destruction any more because the UN inspectors couldn't find any. Samples of soil taken across Iraq showed no trace of radioactivity associated with nuclear weapons development (albeit there is ample radioactivity from the depleted uranium weapons the US left all over the place). The much ballyhooed chemical weapons warheads turned out to be from 1988, and were not only empty, but tests proved they had never held chemical weapons at all. An empty warhead isn't a weapon. It's a door-stop.

The CIA finally coughed up a "secret" list of "sites of concern", and the UN inspectors quickly flew to those sites, unimpeded by the Iraqi government, and found...nothing. Nada. Zilch, Zip. Zero.

The UN inspectors have found nothing that is an actual component of a weapon of mass destruction. If you want a weapon of mass destruction you have to go to Israel with its 400 nuclear weapons, which from its current actions in the Gaza strip is provably a threat to other people in the Mideast. Israel, it must be noted, stands in defiance of more UN Resolutions than Iraq is.

However, the US isn't going to Israel because, surprise, surprise, weapons of mass destruction aren't the issue any more. The issue justifying an attack is one of cooperation! And it isn't that Iraq isn't cooperating, because Blix's report makes it clear that they are. The new war-cry is that Iraq isn't cooperating ENOUGH, that Iraq isn't volunteering to provide the UN inspectors with items they AREN'T asking for, all on the assumption that Iraq actually has something to volunteer WITH, which is unproven.

Now, here's the problem. Even if Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, they are not a threat to the USA. Iraq has no means to reach all the way across the Atlantic to North America with a nuke, even if he had one, and were he to try, the US nuclear deterrent (you know, that $5 trillion and counting monster the "be afraid of Iraq" people keep ignoring) would turn Iraq into a green glass parking lot.

So, Iraq wasn't a threat to the US even with weapons of mass destruction. And if he was, there is no need to invade Iraq and capture the oil wells as the US has announced it intends to do. The US can destroy Iraq any time it wants to.

So now the issue is "not cooperating enough". Can anyone think how it is possible for Iraq's "not cooperating enough" justifies a war? In the absence of any proof of weapons of mass destruction, how "not cooperating enough" is any kind of a threat to the USA justifying invasion is a mystery.

The answer is, "not cooperating enough" is a desperate reach to invent a war out of thin air, because Iraq is cooperating, and the UN inspectors have found nothing that is a direct threat to the people of the United States. Therefore, there is no justification for the US to invade and grab those oil wells as the US has announced it intends to do.

Except, of course, to grab those oil wells, as the US has announced it intends to do.

Quotes from Blix's report on Iraq.

"I turn now, Mr. President, to the key requirement of cooperation and Iraq's response to it. Cooperation might be said to relate to both substance and process. It would appear from our experience so far that Iraq has decided in principle to provide cooperation on process, notably access.

"A similar decision is indispensable to provide cooperation on substance in order to bring the disarmament task to completion through the peaceful process of inspection and to bring the monitoring task on a firm course.

"An initial minor step would be to adopt the long overdue legislation required by the resolutions.

"I shall deal first with cooperation on process. In this regard, it has regard to the procedures, mechanisms, infrastructure and practical arrangements to pursue inspections and seek verifiable disarmament. While the inspection is not built on the premise of confidence, but may lead to confidence if it is successful, there must nevertheless be a measure of mutual confidence from the very beginning in running the operation of inspection. Iraq has, on the whole, cooperated rather well so far with UNMOVIC in this field.

"The most important point to make is that access has been provided to all sites we have wanted to inspect. And with one exception, it has been [without] problems. We have further had a great help in building up the infrastructure of our office in Baghdad and the field office in Mosul. Arrangements and services for our plane and our helicopters have been good.

"The environment has been workable. Our inspections have included universities, military bases, presidential sites and private residences. Inspections have also taken place on Fridays, the Muslim day of rest, on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. These inspections have been conducted in the same manner as all other inspections. We seek to be both effective and correct. "
