I cannot imagine there is any real marketing research that supports the effectiveness of these pop-up ads. The very best kind of ad is one that people will WANT to look at. Ads like that will work even on the side-bar; they don't NEED to be popped into people's faces. Such ads are rare, sadly, as it is easier to try to force someone to look at ad copy than to create an ad people will want to look at. I don't like the philosophy behind anti-leech.
