Movies, White Hats, and DC Long before I ever worked in them, I loved movies. I especially love western where the town was in a mess because some cruel cattle baron wanted all the land for grazing, or some railroad tycoon was snatching as much of the town as he could before he announced the railroad was going to put a station there and drive prices up. Always there was a John Wayne, Randolph Scott, Clint Eastwood, or a Kevin Kline who rode into town past the inevitable church full of praying town-folk, saw the criminals who had stolen the local government, and kicked them out. It's a nice story, but if you think about it, such films repeated over and over taught a very bad lesson. Movies about heroes who ride in when all seems hopeless and save the day teach people to NOT do anything when bad things happen, to sit, wait, pray, and sooner or later someone from the outside will ride in and fix the problems for them. Well, this is the real world. The corporate robber-barons have the nation in deep trouble, are looting its gold and blood to gain even greater riches, and there are no heroes coming to save the day. Despite UN disapproval, world condemnation, and massive demonstrations yesterday that make it obvious there is no popular support for unprovoked war against anyone, a few rich and powerful men who have stolen the government intend to invade another nation for its wealth. And these corrupt men HOPE that you will fall for all those movies you saw when you were young, that you will sit on your rear ends waiting for a John Wayne, Randolph Scott, Clint Eastwood, or a Kevin Kline to ride in at the last minute, because those corrupt crooks know there are no heroes, that John Wayne, Randolph Scott, Clint Eastwood, and Kevin Kline all worked for other corporations that were making those movies to teach you to do nothing but wait in vain for a hero while your nation is stolen out from under you.
