A GUARANTEED REMEDY TO REDUCE GUN VIOLENCE AT SCHOOLS

If I were the president or a member of Congress, I would work immediately to repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act, to free local communities to better protect their children. But, in almost half the states of our union, we don’t need to wait for Washington or our state’s capitols to bring about needed change to protect our kids.

As even NBC News had to report: “The Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 prohibits anyone from having a firearm in a school zone. But that law includes the same exception recognized [in 17 U.S. states]: It doesn’t apply if the weapons are ‘approved by a school in the school zone.'”

I’m sure many would be surprised right now to learn that 17 states allow adults or teachers to carry a loaded gun on school grounds, generally provided that they have written permission from a principal or the school board.

"We are the next Yugoslavia" - Ukraine's chief military prosecutor

Ukraine will turn into a testing ground for resolving military conflicts in the center of Europe, said Anatoly Matios, the country's chief military prosecutor.

The official's opinion was based on the signing of a "politically motivated" law on the reintegration of Donbass, which, in his opinion, will have deplorable consequences, such as the fate of Yugoslavia.

He added that in the case of the introduction of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbass, the "blue helmets" will act not according to Ukrainian laws, but on the principle of extraterritoriality.

"Nobody, anywhere and never said on what principle and by what legislation the peacekeeping contingent will operate," said Matios.

"Death to Russia" Riots in Kiev: A Sign of War to Come in Donbass?

Ukraine is irreversibly slipping further into Nazification. Following the oath-taking of 600 militants of the newfound National Squads (a subsidiary organization of the Azov regiment intended to “aid” police in keeping order) and following the de facto occupation of the Cherkassy city council (the regional center right next to the Kiev region), Ukrainian Nazis are rehearsing new assaults in the spirit of Ernst Rohm’s street fighters from 1920’s Germany.

Like any historical analogy, this one is conditional. The situation in today’s Ukraine is much worse. While in Weimar Germany the state as a whole did not indulge the Nazis nor use the full force of its repressive apparatus against them, in Ukraine the oligarchic regime of President Poroshenko has given the Nazi street movements the green light. Why and for what purpose will be discussed below.

Russian bombers clear the way - 10,000 Syrian soldiers begin large scale offensive in Damascus

Russian aviation has crushed the militants' defenses in the east of Damascus prior to a major offensive operation of the Syrian Army.

Combat aircraft of the Russian Air Force supported the counter-terrorist operation of the Syrian Army in the uninhabited ruins of East Ghouta, where militants built stronghold fortifications.

The Arab media reported that Russian aviation inflicted point air strikes on numerous terrorist targets east of Damascus, aiming at the tactical positions of the groups and their transport routes. Russian combat aircraft have concentrated on high-precision strikes on militant positions of anti-tank missiles and heavy machine guns.

‘Wrong step could bring catastrophe’: Japanese mayor wants US F-16s grounded after fuel tank drop

The mayor of a Japanese town close to the Misawa Airbase, stationing US warplanes, has called for the grounding of American F-16 fighter jets. The demand comes after one fighter dumped its fuel tanks over a lake.

On Tuesday, a US F-16 fighter jet caught fire midflight, forcing the pilot to drop two external auxiliary fuel tanks into Lake Ogawara in Aomori Prefecture, northeastern Japan. The lake is near the Misawa base and is reportedly a popular place among local fishermen, who claim that the tanks fell between 200 and 400 meters away from clam boats.

Trump suggests arming teachers & staff could prevent school massacres

President Donald Trump has floated the idea that arming teachers and school staff could prevent future massacres, as he met with Florida school shooting survivors, who demanded changes and solutions.

“If you had a teacher with, who was adept at firearms, they could very well end the attack very quickly... And we’re going to be looking at it very strongly, and I think a lot of people are going to be opposed to it, I think a lot of people are going to like it,” Trump said at a ‘listening session’ at the White House on Wednesday, that included some Florida school shooting survivors.

Jewish Foundation Says US Should Cut Ties With Poland Over Holocaust Speech Law

The Ruderman Family Foundation, an American Jewish philanthropic organization, recently initiated a campaign calling for the US to dissolve its ties with Poland over the country’s controversial new law that makes it illegal to accuse the Polish nation of complicity in Nazi crimes during World War II.

The campaign includes a petition for the US to suspend its ties to Poland on the NeverDeny.org website. The site also reportedly included a video message showing men, women and children saying "Polish Holocaust," according to Times of Israel. Other footage showed people asking about time spent in a "Polish prison." However, the footage is currently unavailable on the website or YouTube.

The contentious law, recently signed by President Andrzej Duda this month, is due to take effect February 28. However, the law is to be reviewed by Poland's constitutional court since it has generated much criticism.

NATO head says Russia is not a threat to any of its members

NATO does not see Russia as a threat to any of its members, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview published by the Foreign Policy magazine on Tuesday and reported by TASS.

"We don’t see any threat [from Russia] against any NATO ally and therefore, I’m always careful speculating too much about hypothetical situations," he said when asked what the alliance would do "if Russia did in the Baltics what it did in Ukraine."

"What I can say is that anything like what happened in Crimea and Ukraine would, of course, trigger a response from the whole alliance, because NATO is there to defend and protect all allies against any threat," he went onto say.

Facebook climbdown: ‘Arrogant’ social media giant loses mountaineer battle

A small climbing enthusiast website called ‘Climbook’ has won its copyright battle against Facebook after Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development ruled that Mark Zuckerberg does not have exclusive use of the word ‘book.’

The tech giant initiated a complaint about the not-for-profit community site in 2015, arguing that it was too similar in its “structural, visual, phonetic, and conceptual” design, and that the services it offered were “partly similar” to those provided by Facebook, which could confuse users.

The patent office of Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development ruled it is “highly improbable” that users would get mixed up between the two brands and the site could continue to exist under the same name.

Climbook is a site built around the climbing community, launched in 2013 by Italian mountain guide Alessandro Lamberti, according to its Facebook page. It provides details of climbing routes all over the world for free-climbing enthusiasts.

A New Low – Russia Smeared in US School Massacre

Hysteria over alleged Russian meddling in US affairs hit a new low this week, with claims that Kremlin-controlled internet agents are exploiting the Florida gun massacre.
The New York Times' top story in its online edition Tuesday was headlined: "After Florida School Shooting, Russian ‘Bot' Army Pounced".

Other US news media also gave prominent coverage to unsubstantiated claims that Kremlin-orchestrated internet agents, known as "trolls" or "bots", were heartlessly exploiting American public grief over the mass shooting.

The NY Times report stated: "Any news event — no matter how tragic — has become fodder to spread inflammatory messages in what is believed to be a far-reaching Russian disinformation campaign."

That the Israelis helped turn a bunch of fringe Palestinian Islamists in the late 1970s into one of the world’s most notorious militant groups? That Hamas is blowback?

‘Thank you, Mama Merkel’: Syrian refugee lives with 2 wives, 6 kids on benefits in Germany

A documentary about a Syrian refugee living in Germany with his two wives and six kids has angered many. Not only is polygamy against German law, but one wife married at 13 – and the family live on state handouts.

The Spiegel TV film was aired over the weekend, telling the story of 32-year-old Ahmad A. who fled the fighting in Syria’s Aleppo back in 2015 with his large family, and found a safe haven in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany.

The man lives in a two-story house provided by the community with two wives and six children. Despite polygamy being illegal in Germany, Ahmad was allowed to bring his second wife into the country as she is the mother of four of his kids.

Italy's Lega Nord Leader Slams Merkel for 'Causing Damage' to the Country

Matteo Salvini has accused Angela Merkel of following only the German agenda and ignoring the fact that her strategy is no good for other EU states, including Italy.

"Angela Merkel has been criticized abroad, since she puts the interests of German citizens and the German economy above the interests of the whole [European] Union. This strategy, that is probably good for Germany, has caused damage to Italy," Matteo Salvini, the leader of the right-wing Italian party Lega Nord, told DPA.

In his opinion, Italy had to agree with EU-related decisions without any chance of influencing them, which is completely wrong, the politician argued.

"We often have an impression that we are only being consulted about accomplished facts and have no chance to influence the decisions that set the direction for Europe," Salvini stated.

Mueller’s Fraudulent Indictment

The indictment handed down by Robert Mueller against 13 Russians connected to the Internet Research Agency, a Russian-owned- and- operated clickbait farm, is the capstone of my case that we have indeed entered Bizarro World, an alternate universe where up is down, black is white and truth is a ridiculous falsehood.

Yes, I said clickbait farm – because that’s precisely what the Internet Research Agency (IRA) is: founded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a former Russian chef who wanted to figure out a new way to make money, the IRA, as pointed out here, is a money-making operation. Mueller seems to acknowledge this when, in his laughable “indictment,” we read this:

Mueller’s Comic Book Indictment: How To Prosecute a Great Big Nothingburger

We have always heard that a determined government prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich, and now we know it’s true. After 38 years in the prosecution racket, Robert Mueller just made his biggest score ever – that is, he nailed a great big Nothingburger.

But he also did a lot more than that. Mueller’s 37-page comic book indictment actually unmasks – inadvertently to be sure – the distinctly un-terrifying essence of the whole Russian meddling narrative. In fact, the crude social media emissions (ads and posts) of the so-called troll farm were generally lame, often laughable and sometimes downright ludicrous as per this gem cited by Mueller:

The Russians didn’t do anything to us that we weren’t already doing to ourselves

The Russia campaign was a shockingly cynical violation of our sovereignty. President Trump would do himself and the country a favor by frankly denouncing it.

But the scale of the operation shouldn’t be exaggerated. In the context of a hugely expensive, obsessively covered, impossibly dramatic presidential election, the Russian contribution on social media was piddling and often laughable.

The Russians wanted to boost Trump, but as a Facebook executive noted, most of their spending on Facebook ads came after the election. The larger goal was to sow discord, yet we had already primed ourselves for plenty of that.

African migrants start hunger strike over Israel expulsion

Hundreds of African migrants launched a hunger strike to protest Israel's implementation of its controversial policy to expel or indefinitely imprison them, a spokesman for the group said Wednesday.

Israel has resolved to expel thousands of Eritreans and Sudanese who entered illegally over the years, giving them an ultimatum to leave or risk being imprisoned indefinitely.

As the migrants could face danger or imprisonment if retur ned to their homelands, Israel is offering to relocate them to an unnamed third country, which the migrants and aid workers say is Rwanda or Uganda.

Authorities on Tuesday transferred seven Africans from the Holot detention centre to a nearby prison, prompting the 750 men held in Holot to launch a hunger strike that evening, said Abdat Ishmael, an Eritrean held at the southern Israel open facility.

On Wednesday, another five were taken to prison, Ishmael told AFP.

Dana Loesch, 39, appeared at the CNN-arranged meeting in Sunrise, Florida, on Wednesday night on behalf of the association to face tough questions from students.

To the youngsters' outrage, she ignored their pleas to outlaw assault rifles and bump stocks and instead focused her arguments on enforcing background checks at a federal level to ensure that only sane, stable people can buy the weapons.

REVEALED: Cops let Florida school shooter get away because they didn't realize they were watching security camera footage on a 20 minute DELAY

Parkland massacre gunman Nikolas Cruz was able to escape the Florida campus undetected because security guards were watching surveillance footage on a 20-minute delay.

Curry ingredient turmeric is MORE effective than paracetamol or ibuprofen at easing painful injuries, study finds

After less than three weeks, taking a key component of the Indian staple spice, known as curcumin, eases injured rugby players' discomfort just as much paracetamol or ibuprofen, but without their side effects, a study found.

Those opting for medication over the curry ingredient are four times more likely to suffer gastro-related complications, the research adds.

Study author Dr Francesco Di Pierro from the Milan-based pharmaceutical company Velleja Research, said: 'This study suggests the naturally-derived, curcumin-based product could represent a promising safe, analgesic remedy in painful osteo-muscular conditions associated with intense, high impact, physical activities.'

The researchers believe curcumin may also benefit sufferers of inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis patients, without causing the complications associated with many existing treatments.

President Donald Trump doubled down on his controversial proposal to give teachers concealed carry permits on Thursday afternoon, saying as many as 40 percent of educators could be toting guns in some schools.

Beefing up the proposal to arm teachers that was rejected yesterday by one of the most conservative senator's in his party, Trump said that teachers could, perhaps, receive a 'little bit of a bonus' for carrying concealed weapons.

'You can't hire enough security guards....Your need 100, 150 security guards,' he told state and local leaders during a White House listening session. 'But you could have concealed on the teachers.'

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – FEBRUARY 22, 2018: RUSSIA MOVES ITS ADVANCED SU-57 STEALTH FIGHTERS INTO SYRIA

On February 21, the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) captured the villages of Qara Baba, Kirbet Siluki and Vergan from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the Afrin area. Clashes between Turkish forces and the YPG were also reported in Arab Wiran.

On the same day, the second column of government forces reportedly entered the YPG-held part of Afrin under an alleged agreement between Damascus and the YPG. However, this deployment has not impacted the situation on the frontlines so far.

With the establishment of Turkish observation posts at the contact line between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and militants in eastern Idlib, an active phase of the SAA military operations in the area has come to its end so far. However, so-called moderate rebels have already found an interesting way to spend the time not used to fight the SAA.

The boycott started on 15 February, and will last, prisoners say, until Israel ends its practice of administrative detention – the widespread Israeli practice of imprisonment without charge or trial that can be renewed indefinitely and which is rooted in British colonial practices.

“The Israeli military court and laws are in complete harmony with the occupation’s policies against our people and represent a complete disregard for international norms,” detainees wrote in their statement.

Palestinians who are taken to military court are faced with a near 100 percent conviction rate.

Crimes of compassion, Iraq's long war and Canada's bloody hands

Canadians should prepare themselves for an onslaught of feel-good propaganda in the coming weeks as the world marks the 15th anniversary of one of the most horrific war crimes of the 21st century, the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq by forces including the U.S., U.K., and Canada.

It will be disheartening to watch as liberal commentators from the Toronto Star and CBC engage in the most dishonest kind of smug, self-satisfied flag saluting, praising then-Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chretien for allegedly “declining” to sign on to the war. Yet the notion that Canada somehow decided not to be part of the Shock and Awe invasion of Iraq is a complete falsehood, and is well-documented elsewhere .

Florida Shooting Survivor: CNN Gave "Scripted Question" After Refusing Question About Armed Guards

A Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student said he was approached by CNN to ask a question at Wednesday night's town hall, but declined after the network gave him a "scripted question" instead of allowing him to ask his own question.

Colton Haab, a member of the Junior ROTC who shielded students while shots rang out, Local 10 news that he was going to ask a question about hiring veterans as armed security guards.

"CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted," Haab told WPLG-TV. "I don't think that it's going get anything accomplished. It's not gonna ask the true questions that all the parents and teachers and students have."

Florida School Shooting Survivor: CNN Wanted Us to Ask Scripted Questions

Colton Haab, a member of the Junior ROTC credited with shielding students during the Parkland, Florida, school shooting, has accused CNN of scripting questions for students as they held an anti-gun town-hall meeting Wednesday night.

Haab claims the network approached him about asking a question at the televised meeting, to which he obliged by writing a few and settling on one questioning the feasibility of putting veterans in schools as armed security guards.

But he quickly realized that anything not related to bashing firearms and the Second Amendment wasn’t going to be a part of the show.

“I expected to be able to ask my questions and give my opinion on my questions,” Haab said.

STUNNING LIST: COPS STOP DOZENS OF SCHOOL ATTACKS BEFORE THEY HAPPEN

When it comes to horrific school attacks and shootings, “See something, say something, do something” is apparently a policy that really does save innocent lives.

Police, schools and parents are stopping school attacks across America by taking the threats seriously, reporting them and quickly arresting the students before there’s ever a massacre.

In the case of Nikolas Cruz, the shooter who opened fire on students at a Florida high school on Valentine’s Day and killed 17 people, reports about his disturbing behavior apparently came flooding in to authorities. Cruz’s friends saw something. They said something. But authorities apparently didn’t do anything.

Top Democrats demand $300mn to protect the midterms from Russia intervention

US Democratic leaders have called for more than $300 million in new funding to protect upcoming midterm elections from Russian interference.

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House minority leader Nancy Pelosi demanded a budget boost Wednesday, claiming that the amount is necessary to safeguard November’s elections.

The extra money should go to the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and Election Assistance Commission, they said in a letter to the Republicans.

“We’re not drawing lines in the sand,” Senator Schumer told reporters. “We hope we can get bipartisan support.”

The Democrats’ move was made in the wake of mounting pressure against the administration of US President Donald Trump over possible collusion with Moscow during the 2016 presidential campaign and election.
