'I think I'll call it Pravda': Elon Musk goes on Twitter rant against media criticizing Tesla and says he will start a website to rate the 'truthfulness' of journalists (named after the old Soviet state-run news agency)

Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk launched another Twitter tirade on Wednesday, this time aimed at the media's coverage of his electric car company, Tesla.

Musk took 'big media companies' to task in a series of tweets, saying the public doesn't respect them anymore because of their 'holier-than-thou hypocrisy' and because they 'claim to the truth, but publish only enough to sugarcoat the lie'.

After a reporter from the Verge retorted by calling him a 'media-bating Trump figure,' Musk sharply replied by saying President Donald Trump was elected because no one believes the media anymore.

Ad for Israeli maternity ward portrays fetus as future soldier

The ad for Lis Maternity Hospital, part of Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, shows a fetus wearing a military beret, with a caption reading: “Received the Presidential Award of Excellence, 2038.”

Portraying an unborn child as a soldier is disturbing in its own right, regardless of country. In Israel, an occupying power whose military has for over five decades been primarily concerned with maintaining control over a civilian population, this ad is even more charged and offensive. Furthermore, its timing is especially disturbing, considering that the IDF killed 60 Palestinians and wounded over 2,400 in a single day in Gaza, while continuing to exert control over millions of stateless Palestinians.

Moscow Concerned Over Yulia Skripal's Treatment as Her 1st Interview Released

Yulia Skripal, who has claimed to have been poisoned by Russia, together with her father Sergei Skripal, gave an interview to Reuters, according to a video released by the agency on Wednesday.

The Russian embassy in the United Kingdom commented on the interview of Yulia Skripal to Reuters, who made her first media appearance since the poisoning. The embassy still suspects Yulis Skripal is kept in Britain against her will, insisting yet again that the Russian consulate officials should be provided direct access to her.

"The United Kingdom has a responsibility to give us the opportunity to communicate directly with Yulia to make sure that she is not kept [in the UK] against her will and does not make statements under pressure. So far we have every reason to suspect the opposite," a representative of the Russian embassy in the UK told reporters.

The embassy believes the text she read during her first interview after the poisoning, was originally written in English.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It looks like she has a tracheotomy scar on her neck.

'Israel lobby calling the shots in Trump's rollback policy on Iran' – Max Blumenthal

President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal is a result of a lobbying effort by American Jewish billionaires and recycled, cooked-up intelligence touted by the Israeli PM, journalist Max Blumenthal told RT.

Trump's decision to pull the US out of the deal, which capped Iran's uranium enrichment in return for economic sanctions relief, has drawn widespread criticism from Washington's European allies and Moscow, but it was lauded in Israel, which has long pushed for dismantling of the 2015 accord.

If this doesn't speak for itself, Blumenthal told RT that the roots of Trump's decision to scrap the deal can be easily traced back to Israel.

"Israeli influence is absolutely key here. At least, Trump sided Netanyahu's kind of used car salesman style of presentation in order to justify withdrawing from the Iran deal and his new policy of rollback," the journalist said.

Israel Warns Damascus Not to Use Air Defenses Against Israeli Jets Inside Syria

A senior Israeli Air Force officer has said that his country's military aircraft will continue to operate in Syrian airspace for as long as is deemed necessary.

"We're not doing this because we're aggressive, but because we constantly have to be actively defending the state of Israel," the senior officer said, speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity on Wednesday.

"This is the only thing preventing offensive measures by Iran," he added.

The officer also warned Syria not to use its air defenses against Israeli warplanes. "All batteries that fire on Israeli aircraft will be destroyed. All batteries that do not fire on us will not be destroyed," he said, noting that "this policy will continue."

An Israeli asks where is the outrage in Israel at the appalling Gaza massacre?

For the last few weeks, Palestinians in Gaza have been marching every Friday towards the Israeli fence, and every Friday, they have been met with live fire from Israeli soldiers. More than 30 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds more wounded since the “Great March of Return” began on 30 March.
The demonstrators were unarmed and did not threaten the lives of the soldiers beyond the fence. What’s been happening is a massacre; there’s no other word to describe it.

Israel has responded to these events with its typical lack of interest. Only the thick black smoke from burning tyres, which may have drifted towards Israeli communities along the fence, threatened the serenity of their Passover holiday.

Germany's 'Asylum-For-Cash' Scandal Exposed

Germany's Federal Office for Refugees and Migration (BAMF) will review more than 25,000 asylum decisions after allegations of corruption at its regional office in the northern city of Bremen.

Some of those granted asylum were considered by German authorities to be potential security risks, according to the news magazine Der Spiegel. They include Syrian intelligence operatives, human smugglers and other hard-core criminals - as well as potential Islamic State jihadists.

BAMF currently rejects almost all asylum requests from converts from Islam to Christianity, according to Thomas Schirrmacher, president of the International Society for Human Rights. He said that when undergoing "belief tests," BAMF often relies on Muslim translators who deliberately mistranslate at the expense of Christians or converts.

FOMC Minutes Show Fed Hiking "Soon" But Willing To Allow Dovish Inflation Overshoot

The big question after the May FOMC statement was "how symmetric is The Fed's reaction function" to inflationary upside, i.e. how much will the Fed allow inflation to overshoot, and how much attention are they really paying to the collapsing yield curve? And as Bloomberg noted, a key focal point of the minutes will be to further distinguish the main thresholds separating the three- and four-hike camps in the 2018 dot plot.

Former fund manager Richard Breslow wrote in his Trader's Notes column earlier:

"I expect there is a decent chance that the FOMC minutes we’re going to see this afternoon read on the hawkish side. What a difference a few weeks make. Way back then Fed-speak was clearly trending to the upbeat side and they were getting even more hopeful on the inflation side of the dual-mandate."

US ‘Plan B’ With Iran Sets the Stage for War

When the Trump Administration withdrew from the P5+1 nuclear deal, they began talking about a “plan B.” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has set out the US strategy post-deal this week, threatening the “strongest sanctions in history” and setting out an incredibly broad set of 12 demands.

Despite Pompeo’s insistence that the demands are “basic requirements,” they are anything but, and analysts and former officials broadly agree that this leaves no room for new diplomacy between the US and Iran. Threats and demands are the tired old US strategy toward Iran, one that has failed for the better part of 40 years.

The point of this is to go back to the pre-deal situation, when the US was threatening to attack Iran constantly on the slightest pretext. “Plan B” ultimately has meant setting the stage for a massive US war with Iran.

The US is running out of bombs — and it may soon struggle to make more

The Pentagon plans to invest more than $20 billion in munitions in its next budget. But whether the industrial base will be there to support such massive buys in the future is up in the air — at a time when America is expending munitions at increasingly intense rates.

The annual Industrial Capabilities report, put out by the Pentagon’s Office of Manufacturing and Industrial Base Policy, has concluded that the industrial base of the munitions sector is particularly strained, something the report blames on the start-and-stop nature of munitions procurement over the last 20 years, as well as the lack of new designs being internally developed.

Some suppliers have dropped out entirely, leaving no option for replacing vital materials. Other key suppliers are foreign-owned, with no indigenous capability to produce vital parts and materials ? setting up the risk that a conflict with China could rely on Chinese-made parts.

May 23 11:29

America’s industrial base is at risk, and the military may feel the consequences

Underneath the rosy picture of a strong U.S. defense industry lies a demographic challenge for the workforce and contraction issues, a new government study has concluded.

The annual Industrial Capabilities report, quietly released May 17 by the Pentagon’s Office of Manufacturing and Industrial Base Policy, found that America’s defense industry continued to outperform other industrial sectors in fiscal 2017.

However, long-term trends “continue to threaten the health of the industrial base, limit innovation, and reduce U.S. competitiveness in the global markets,” the report states.

Rationalizing Genocide

Outrage over what has been alleged to be interference by a foreign power in the affairs of this country has led to a profound deterioration of relations with Russia and the unfortunate and tragic renewal of the Cold War. The mainstream media, despite the fact that the investigation is ongoing and conclusive evidence has yet to be released, is rife with criticism and condemnation of what it seems convinced are, or wishes to portray as, Russian attempts to influence, if not to undermine, the 2016 elections. But yet, in May of 2015, there was nary a whimper, neither the appointment of a special prosecutor or much debate and discussion in the MSM, when Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, was invited by Republicans to speak to a joint session of Congress in an attempt to undermine not just Obama’s efforts to strike a nuclear deal with Iran, but his presidential authority over foreign policy.

Blaming the Victims of Israel’s Gaza Massacre

On the 70th anniversary of Israel’s so-called “declaration of independence,” the United States opened its new embassy in Jerusalem—a city Israel claims as its own, despite what international law says on the matter—and Palestinians undertook unarmed protests in reaction to the move and as part of the Great Return March. Although to this point, the only Israeli casualty during the entire cycle of demonstrations has been one “lightly wounded” soldier, considerable space in coverage of the massacres is devoted to blaming Palestinians for their own slaughter.

Two of the first three paragraphs in an NBC report (5/14/18) provided Israel’s rationalizations for its killing spree. The second sentence in the article says that the Israeli military accused Hamas of “leading a terrorist operation under the cover of masses of people,” adding that “firebombs and explosive devices” as well as rocks were being thrown towards the barrier.

Speculation on Hyperinflation

Hyperinflation Myths:
Hyperinflation occurs in banana-republics and not modern western countries.
Hyperinflation cannot occur in the United States because the U.S. issues dollars – the reserve currency.
BOTH IDEAS ARE INCORRECT.

WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF HYPERINFLATION?
The hyperinflations of past centuries have hurt the poor and middle classes more than the wealthy because they owned real assets.
Hyperinflation destroys savings, assets, purchasing power and retirement expectations, along with moral values.
The value of the currency is smashed. The economy “resets” and life goes on, albeit much changed.
Hard assets such as real estate, fine art, land, gold and silver fare better than many other assets.

US envoy poses with photo depicting Jewish temple at Al-Aqsa Mosque

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman was yesterday photographed posing with a picture of Jerusalem in which a Jewish temple stands in place of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The photo of Freidman being gifted the poster was taken during a visit to the city of Bnei Brak’s ultra-Orthodox Achiya institute, which helps children that suffer from learning disabilities.

The photo clearly imposes a temple on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, removing the famous golden hues of the Dome of the Rock.

Whilst it is unclear whether Friedman was aware that the photo depicted the temple, the US embassy has demanded an apology from the organisation “for allowing one of their staff to present this controversial image to the ambassador during the visit,” according to Haaretz.

“The US’ policy is absolutely clear: we support the status quo on the Haram Al-Sharif/Temple Mount,” the statement concluded.

Such consequences include the closure of the Palestine Liberation Organisation’s mission to the US.

“We are reviewing this latest development to determine if it requires changes to the operating status of the PLO office in Washington, D.C., which has been limited to activities related to achieving a lasting, comprehensive peace between the Israelis and Palestinians since November 2017,” a National Security Council spokesperson said.

US Allegedly Gives Israel Green Light to Kill Top Iranian General – Report

Three years after the US allegedly helped botch an Israeli plot to kill an Iranian general, Washington now wishes it hadn’t tipped off the Iranians about the plan, a Kuwaiti newspaper has purported.

The US has allegedly given Israel the go-ahead to assassinate General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s overseas arm, the Quds Force, the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported.

The paper, seen in the Arab world as being instrumental in getting Israel’s message across to other Mideast countries, quoted an unnamed source in Jerusalem as saying that "there is an American-Israeli agreement" that Soleimani is a "threat to the two countries' interests in the region."

According to the report, Washington’s purported nod to kill the Iranian general comes three years after the US thwarted an Israeli attempt to assassinate him near Damascus.

PROPAGANDA 101: HOW TO DEFEND A MASSACRE

Rosner fully justifies the massacre, with no apologies, regret, or second thoughts. He believes the killing of these Palestinians was correct, and that they deserved to die. Now you might, as I do, think this attitude is so self-evidently barbaric that even to debate it is to surrender a little bit of one’s humanity. But Rosner’s position is not a fringe one, and the good liberals at the New York Times consider it within the boundaries of reasonable discourse, so unfortunately we have not yet achieved the kind of world in which such thinking is “self-evidently” immoral. (This reflects very badly on all of us.) I’d like, then, to go through Rosner’s argument paragraph by paragraph, to show how he constructs his defense of murder, why it might be persuasive to people, and why it fails and should horrify everyone.

EU agrees to start Australia, New Zealand trade talks

European Union countries cleared the way on Tuesday for the bloc to begin free trade talks with Australia and New Zealand in a drive to forge new alliances as trade tensions with the United States increase.

The European Commission, which negotiates on behalf of the 28 EU members, said EU trade chief Cecilia Malmstrom would visit both countries to open talks in June before negotiators convene in Brussels in July for a first round of discussions.

The EU forecasts that ambitious and comprehensive agreements could boost its exports to the two countries by a third in the long term, although there are caveats about opening up EU markets to farm produce such as butter and beef.

BP halts work on gas field over US sanctions on Iran

British oil company BP says it has halted work on a gas field which it co-owns with National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) in the North Sea, citing US plans to reimpose sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

NIOC owns 50% of the Rhum field northeast of Aberdeen and BP holds the other half, which it plans to sell to UK-listed producer Serica Energy.

“BP has decided to defer some planned work on the Rhum gas field in the North Sea while we seek clarity on the potential impact on the field of recent US government decisions regarding Iran,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Current operations at Rhum such as provisions of goods, services and support by “certain US persons” are carried out under a US license which is due to expire at the end of September.

Serica said it expected those operations to be affected by US sanctions, “in particular, the new sanctions regime announced by the US government on 8 May.”

FDA warns teething medicines unsafe, wants them off shelves

Federal health officials warned parents Wednesday about the dangers of teething remedies that contain a popular numbing ingredient and asked manufacturers to stop selling their products intended for babies and toddlers.

The Food and Drug Administration said that various gels and creams containing the drug benzocaine (BEN-zoh-keyn) can cause rare but deadly side effects in children, especially those 2 years and younger.

The agency has been warning about the products for a decade but said reports of illnesses and deaths have continued. Now, it wants teething products off the market, noting there is little evidence they actually work.

Dozens of foreign ISIS brides sentenced to death in Iraq

Dozens of foreign ISIS brides are being sentenced to death in Iraq as the country exacts its revenge after three years of jihadi occupation.

Pleading that they themselves are victims, the women were given 10 minutes to beg for their lives before judges decide their sentence.

Many of them find little sympathy with the Iraqi judiciary and locals and are despised for their support of their militant husbands, who tore the country apart between 2014 and 2017.

French citizen Djamila Boutoutao, 29, appeared in court last month and claimed: “I thought I had married a rapper. It was only when we arrived in Turkey for a week-long ‘holiday’ that I discovered my husband was a jihadist.”

“I’m a victim. My husband beat me and locked me up in a cave with my children when I refused to follow him (to Iraq).”

She reappeared in court again last week alongside 14 other women, The Guardian reported, where she begged to keep her daughter.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These women, and most probably their children, will be murdered by the Iraqi government, demonstrating that the Muqtada coalition is just as barbaric and midieval regarding issues pertaining to women, as were their predecessors.

They were, in many cases, victims of men who played and betrayed them, not revealing their jihadi affiliations until after they had been married to these guys.

And hey, Amal Clooney; we know where you and your husband were last weekend, attending the royal wedding of the Duke and Dutchess of Sussex; where the hell are you now, in a human rights case, that is screaming your name?!?

the short answer is, NOWHERE.

The Long Death of America’s Middle Class

The American middle class is dying.

In 2015, it dipped below 50% of the population for the first time since data collection started on the issue. It’s now an official minority group.

Meanwhile, nearly half of Americans don’t have enough money to cover a surprise $400 expense. Many are living paycheck to paycheck, with little to no cushion. And US homes are less affordable than they’ve been in decades—possibly ever.

Britain in grip of cocaine ‘epidemic’ fuelled online

Security minister Ben Wallace said the UK was in the grip of a cocaine epidemic fuelled by smartphones and the internet.

The class A drug can be obtained in a way that was never possible before, with technology giving young people the opportunity to communicate and trade in a protected space.

Mr Wallace warned the drug is “no longer the preserve of the yuppie or the rich” and its widespread use was leading to an increase in violent crime.

The minister told the Commons: “In the old days, if you wanted to import huge amounts of cocaine somebody had to go to Colombia, somebody had to meet people.

“In the space of about eight years, you don’t have to do that."

UK worried over Germany’s Russian gas reliance as hot war scenario discussed with MPs

UK Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson told the Commons select committee of his fears of German over-reliance on Russian gas - should conflict arise between NATO and Moscow.

Williamson appeared during a Defence Committee on US, NATO and UK defense relations ahead of July’s upcoming NATO summit, where MPs scrutinized the MoD’s financial priorities as members of the alliance look to boost individual military spending to a minimum of 2% of their GDP.

Israeli airstrike hits boat at Gaza port preparing to meet aid flotilla – locals

An airstrike launched by the Israeli military has hit a boat that was moored in Gaza City. The vessel was preparing to meet other boats that were trying to sail through Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, locals say.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they hit "military targets belonging to the Hamas terror organization's naval force," as well as "underground terror infrastructure." On its official Twitter account, the IDF said it was done in response to a group of people breaking through the Israel-Gaza border and setting a military post on fire.

Gaza residents cited by Reuters said the boat that was set on fire by the Israeli attack was due to sail to meet a flotilla on its way to Gaza. A number of aid flotillas have attempted to breach the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza in recent years, but the vessels have been stopped, seized or turned back. In the most notorious case in 2010, Israeli commandos killed nine activists on board the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara.

The strikes follow an Israeli raid targeting a military post east of Jabalia in northern Gaza just minutes prior.

Israeli war planes also targeted a site inside the fishermen’s port, west of Gaza City.

One Gaza resident, Mohammed Abu Assi, said on Twitter: “Israeli aircrafts are bombing several locations in Gaza, also the rockets were targeted mainly at Gaza sea port.”

Amjad Salah added: “Continuous explosions west of Gaza City shake the sky and flames in different areas.

“A very heavy flight of Israeli warplanes.”
