“CrossTalk” Aggressive NATO

Now NATO has focused on what is described as “Russian aggression.” Does NATO create its own security risks?

Since the end of the Cold War, NATO has been trying to find its new role. Its operations in Afghanistan and Libya were disasters.

Merkel Urged to Temper NATO’s Belligerence

U.S. intelligence veterans are calling on German Chancellor Merkel to bring a needed dose of realism and restraint to the upcoming NATO conference, which risks escalating the dangerous new Cold War with Russia.

MEMORANDUM FOR: Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany

We longtime U.S. intelligence officers again wish to convey our concerns and cautions directly to you prior to a critically important NATO summit – the meeting that begins on July 8 in Warsaw. We were gratified to learn that our referenced memorandum reached you and your advisers before the NATO summit in Wales, and that others too learned of our initiative via the Sueddeutsche Zeitung, which published a full report on our memorandum on Sept. 4, the day that summit began.

NATO Marches Toward Destruction

The Brexit is just one rumbling of such discontent.

As the West’s elites growl about “Russian aggression” – as they once did about Iraq’s WMD – NATO leaders meet in Poland to plan a costly and dangerous new Cold War, while shunning the few voices of dissent.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s cry of distress is that of a man watching a tidal wave of destruction gathering force, similar to ones that have engulfed his country twice in the Twentieth Century.

German, Canadian Troops Arrive in Town in Syria's Raqqa Province – Sources

An unknown number of German and Canadian troops have recently arrived in the northern Syrian town of Tell Abyad in the northern Raqqa province, sources in the Kurdish opposition told Sputnik on Thursday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Technically this is an invasion, as Syria's government has not invited them nor given permission for them to be on their territory.

TENSE: German and Canadian troops entered Syria

An unknown number of German and Canadian soldiers recently arrived in the city in northern Syria Tel Abijad, in the northern province of Cancer, said Sputnik sources from the scene.

Military personnel have been deployed in recent days in the area where the US-led coalition fighting against the terrorist organization Daesa.

Syrian television reported last month that German commandos entered Syria to join the French and US forces in the offensive on the city of Manbij controlling Daesa.

Manbij, a town located between the self-proclaimed capital Daesa-a Rake and the Turkish-Syrian border, is strategically important to terrorists.

Hillary Rebuffs Bernie’s Policy Demands

Eager to hold the political “center,” Hillary Clinton has budged little on Bernie Sanders’s policy proposals beyond nice-sounding platitudes, a strategy that could lead to clashes at the Democratic convention, says Lawrence Davidson.

Hillary Clinton has pursued the presidency for almost a decade with a tenacious determination. She almost achieved the nomination in 2008 only to lose to Barack Obama. That led to an eight-year stifling of this ambition.

Finally, in the long run-up to the 2016 election, she was convinced the nomination was hers.

Jeremy Corbyn gives #Chilcot statement

The much-edited Chilcot Report finally arrived and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has issued a pretty-sounding apology for his party’s decision to go to war in Iraq in 2003. He called it the most serious foreign policy calamity of the last 60 years and “a stain on our party and country”.

It’s unfortunate that he dignifies the evil Iraq war conspiracy by suggesting it had anything to do with policy of the British people. It was a private venture, pledged in secret, by a Labour prime minister and his closest henchmen, and backed by the Cabinet.

Jul 07 12:30

Iraq Verdict: Trouble if heads don’t roll

First and foremost it was not so much a foreign policy disaster as a flat-out war crime for which Blair as chief perpetrator must be tried. And so must his Cabinet, who carry collective responsibility.

There will be mega-trouble if heads don’t roll.

Trump Hammers On Brexit, “Independence Day” And Repudiation Of Rule By The Global Elite

One thing is clear, whether or not everyone will agree with what is said, Trump is at least speaking more directly than most politicians do

It turned out that Trump wasted no time in making sure that the people of America understood that what had been done in the UK can be done in the United States.

Globalists and Neocons Prove Incapable of Understanding Reality

If Trump wants to put America first, he needs to start firing the Neoconservatives and their lackeys from the White House and putting them on trial for making Americans look really bad.

Rather than listening and learning and modifying their actions, the ruling elites stick to “more of the same.” This process clearly emblematized by the endless procession of Bushes and Clintons replacing each other in the positions of power.

CANADA TO SEND 1,000 TROOPS TO E. EUROPE TO BOOST NATO PRESENCE AT RUSSIA'S DOORSTEP

In last week’s speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian will adopt adequate measures to counter NATO's aggression. Putin also called for creation of an international security system open to all countries.

"Russia is ready to discuss this extremely important issue," he said, adding that such proposals have been so far left unanswered by Western countries.

At the upcoming Warsaw summit in July, NATO leaders are expected to green-light deployment of four battalions of up to 800 troops each to the Baltic States and Poland, along with intensifying the scale and pace of multinational military exercises. Recent live-fire drills, Anakonda 2016, Saber Strike and BALTOPS, involved thousands of troops and hundreds of combat vehicles to simulate large-scale operations in Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is, at this point, not a question of IF NATO is going to wage a war against Russia, but WHEN.

You don't have the kind of continuous troop and equipment escalation on Russia's borders unless you mean to use it.

BEX Alert - Natural Born Citizenship: It’s Not Where You Are Born, but How

Congressman Grayson and Mr. Trump’s threats of a lawsuit seemed to suggest Senator Cruz’s birthplace in Canada—and that alone—would render him ineligible to be President of the United States. However, apparently only Democrats and the media are sufficiently credentialed to make the determination of defining the constitutional phrase, “No person except a natural born citizen….”

Canada’s Foreign Policy: “Copy and Paste” of Washington’s War Crimes Agenda

Canada’s warmongering Defence Minister, Harjit Sajjan, recently announced an increased Canadian presence in NATO, predicated on the narrative that Russia “annexed the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine and backed pro-Russian separatist forces in that country’s eastern region.”

Presumably his “Assad must go” narrative about Syria is wearing thin. After all, NATO member Turkey is a training ground for ISIS, a transit point for terrorists entering Syria, and, like the Canadian government, all of NATO, the Gulf monarchies, Wahhabi Saudi Arabia, and apartheid Israel, a staunch supporter of the terrorists; plus, it has also been long established that there are no “moderates.”

Presumably, too, Sajjan needs to rebrand and recycle the “threat” narrative, and the “NATO are the good guys” meme, so he is now reintroducing Russia as a threat.

Trump better choice by far – Alan Sabrosky

America Should Exit From NATO and the National Security State

snip: What did U.S. and NATO officials think — that people would simply remain where they were so that they could get blown to bits with the bombs that were being dropped on them, by the U.S. assassination program, or by the massive civil-war violence that came as a result of the U.S. and NATO regime-change operations?

People don’t ordinarily behave in that fashion. Most people prefer to live rather than die and will do anything they can to survive. That’s why those refugees fled to Europe— to escape the horrific consequences of interventionism by NATO and the U.S. national security state in the Middle East.

I wonder if deep down, those who are lamenting and groaning about the Brexit vote realize that: If there had been no U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq, no regime change in Libya, no U.S. and NATO bombing and interventionism in Syria, there wouldn’t have been a massive refugee crisis in Europe and, almost certainly, a rejection of Brexit by a majority of British voters.

Ottawa won't say if former Ukrainian prime minister is now a Canadian citizen, as Russian media report

Late last week, a spokesperson for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada refused to comment on reports that appeared in Russian media last year saying former Ukrainian prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has been granted Canadian citizenship.

"Due to privacy concerns we cannot comment on specific cases without consent," stated IRCC spokesperson Lindsay Wemp in an email.

Reports began to appear in the spring of 2015 on English-language news websites, mostly published in Russia, that Yatsenyuk, prime minister of the troubled Eastern European country from February 27, 2014, to April 14, 2016, had along with members of his family been quietly granted Canadian citizenship in 2015 and issued Canadian passports.

July 1st has always been a special day for me. Forty nine years ago today I left the United States and applied for Landed Immigrant Status in Canada. It was a special day in Canada, it was the 100th anniversary of Confederation.

Corbyn: Clowns to the left of him, jokers to the right

Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am...

A political beacon is about to be extinguished unless he breaks with the doomed Labour Party and sets up on his own

Well I don’t know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain’t right,
I’m so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I’m wondering how I’ll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you.
Yes I’m stuck in the middle with you,
And I’m wondering what it is I should do,
It’s so hard to keep this smile from my face,
Losing control, yeah, I’m all over the place,
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right…

Victory Is Possible – Israel Shamir

Brexit is a game-changing event. Now Euro-sceptics all over Europe has got fresh wind in their sails.

Few people expected the positive outcome of Brexit referendum. Among other doubters, I expected the UK government will borrow a trick from the Clinton collection, and proclaim the "Bremain" hath it.

The political establishment of both leading parties, the Tories and Labour, wished to remain in the cosy lap of the EC. This was the will of the Bank of England, and of the City of London; of the powerful media lords, of the creative minority of yuppies, of cosmopolitan intellectuals.

Unravelling The 2016 Global Slavery Index

Over the past three decades a radical, worldwide social and political revolution has been slowly building steam. This revolution rejects the exploitation of human beings for private profit and seeks to eliminate these practices that have built our world and that continue to power global economic growth. The leaders of this revolution, including those involved in the Global Slavery Index, deserve to be applauded for their courage in waging what often feels like an impossible battle. But for everyone working in this field, good intentions are not enough. Dialogue, criticism and constructive debate are also needed to move this revolution forward.

Cash Flowed to Clinton Foundation Amid Russian Uranium Deal

The article, in January 2013, detailed how the Russian atomic energy agency, Rosatom, had taken over a Canadian company with uranium-mining stakes stretching from Central Asia to the American West. The deal made Rosatom one of the world’s largest uranium producers and brought Mr. Putin closer to his goal of controlling much of the global uranium supply chain.

But the untold story behind that story is one that involves not just the Russian president, but also a former American president and a woman who would like to be the next one.

Trump as the ‘Relative Peace Candidate’

The danger to the rest of us is not Trump, but Hillary Clinton. She is no maverick. She embodies the resilience and violence of a system whose vaunted ‘exceptionalism’ is totalitarian with an occasional liberal face.”

Hillary Clinton has shown no real remorse over her support for neocon “regime changes,” aggressive wars and belligerence toward Russia, leaving the oft-obnoxious Donald Trump as the relative peace candidate, says John V. Walsh.

Let us hear from these heretics, among them William Greider, Glen Ford, John Pilger, Jean Bricmont, Stephen F. Cohen and William Blum. Their words are not to be construed as “endorsements,” but rather an acknowledgement of Trump’s anti-interventionist views, the impact those views are having and the alternative he poses to Hillary Clinton in the current electoral contest.

NATO chief makes personal pitch for Canada to join Baltic force to deter Russia

Canada considers European troop commitment as CSIS warns Russia is 'mobilizing for war'

The Trudeau government is considering a request to commit hundreds of troops to eastern Europe and take part command of a new NATO force being assembled to deter Russian aggression.

Canada's participation in the Baltic operation was discussed Tuesday by the military alliance's defence ministers, including Canada's Harjit Sajjan, at a meeting in Brussels.

This comes just days after the Canadian Security Intelligence Service quietly released an open-sourced global security analysis warning, among other things, that the hard-line policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin are becoming more deeply entrenched and that Moscow is retooling its military for a fight.

Israel's Silent Allies Are Its Worst Enemy

By now anyone even vaguely aware of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has heard the phrase ''the new anti-Semitism.'' It is a clever propaganda piece aimed at anyone who dares criticize Israel for its illegal occupation of the West Bank and its continued brutalization of Palestinians in Gaza.

But in the space of two days, new critics emerged from within the highest positions of Israel state power. Moshe Ya'alon -- until recently the Israeli Defence Minister -- and Major General Yair Golan, the Israeli army's deputy chief of staff, confirmed what many of Israel's most vociferous (and vilified) critics have been saying for years: that Israel is heading down the road of extremism and racism.

Golan issued a warning that linked attitudes and actions in pre-war Germany with trends in Israel today. ''It's scary to see horrifying developments that took place in Europe begin to unfold here,'' he said.

Radioactive Ranchers? Elements Found Downwind of Intensive Fracking

The companies were drilling lateral wells, which turn 90 degrees and travel for kilometres underground, extending under people's barns and homes. (Tight oil costs more to extract and produces lower quantities of oil.)

As industry fracked these deep, far-reaching wells with millions of gallons of water, toxic chemicals, and sand under high pressure and then burned off unwanted raw gas, the Hawkwoods and many of their neighbours began complaining about noxious emissions and earth tremors.

Some officials with the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) initially responded to general complaints in the region by saying fracking was proven and safe and that it couldn't cause earthquakes -- claims now proven false by a variety of scientific studies.

Choosing to speak in San Diego, home base of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, on a platform draped with 19 American flags and preceded by half an hour of military marching music, Hillary Clinton was certain of finding a friendly audience for her celebration of American “strength”, “values” and “exceptionalism”. Canada's lone working submarine has stopped working again. (They bought their subs used from the Brits)

During a recent sail on board HMCS Windsor, the Star had a chance to see firsthand the complexities of running the diesel-electric subs.

News of the sub’s aborted Atlantic crossing comes as the federal government has dramatically boosted maintenance budget to keep the four submarines operational until 2023.

Higher than expected repair bills have forced Ottawa to add $900 million to the budget, bringing the total service contract to $2.6 billion until 2023.

Yet this latest problem means that none of Canada’s four submarines are mission-ready. HMCS Corner Brook is undergoing heavy maintenance, which is expected to take until 2018. Hillary Clinton: Electing a Foreign Spy for President?

As Sherlock Holmes would say, “We are entering in deep waters, Watson”.

The executive leadership now faces the problem of how to deal with a traitor, who may be the Democratic Party nominee for US President. How do the executive leadership and intelligence agencies back a foreign spy for president, who has been deeply compromised and can be blackmailed? This may explain why the FBI, NSA, and CIA hesitate to press charges; hesitate to even seriously investigate, despite the obvious nature of her offenses. Most of all it explains why there is no indication of the identity of Secretary Clinton’s correspondents in the various reports so far available.

Did Clinton’s Emails Expose CIA Agents?

Even as Hillary Clinton closes in on the Democratic nomination, facts continue to emerge indicating that her sloppy email practices may have endangered secrets, including the identities of covert operatives, writes Peter Van Buren.

These are facts. You can look at the source documents yourself. This is not opinion, conjecture, or rumor. Hillary Clinton transmitted the names of American intelligence officials via her unclassified email.

From a series of Clinton emails, numerous names were redacted in the State Department releases with the classification code “B3 CIA PERS/ORG,” a highly specialized classification that means the information, if released, would violate the Central Intelligence Act of 1949 by exposing the names of CIA officials.

Electing a Foreign Spy for President?

As Sherlock Holmes would say, “We are entering in deep waters, Watson”.

There are several lines of inquiry against Mme. Clinton:

(1) Did she work with, as yet unnamed, foreign governments and intelligence services to strengthen their positions and against the interest of the United States?

(2) Did she provide information on the operations and policy positions of various key US policymakers to competitors, adversaries or allies undermining the activities of military, intelligence and State Department officials?

(3) Did she seek to enhance her personal power within the US administration to push her aggressive policy of serial pre-emptive wars over and against veteran State Department and Pentagon officials who favored traditional diplomacy and less violent confrontation?

(4) Did she prepare a ‘covert team’, using foreign or dual national operative, to lay the groundwork for her bid for the presidency and her ultimate goal of supreme military and political power?

Leaked minutes of a meeting in Brussels suggest Downing Street is trying to fast-track an EU-Canada trade deal that will allow corporations to sue national governments in secret courts without parliamentary consent.

The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is free trade deal between Canada and Europe, which shares many traits with the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) deal being brokered between the EU and US.

Campaigners warn CETA, which has been finalized but not ratified, would pave the way for a “corporate power grab,” while undercutting vital legislation put in place to protect workers’ rights, the environment and consumer safety.

Warnings of Food Safety Threats as Canada Green Lights “Frankenfish”

By Nadia Prupis

“Health Canada’s approval is irresponsible and disappointing,” said Dana Perls of Friends of the Earth

Despite a sustained effort from public health and climate activists, genetically modified (GM or GMO) salmon has been officially sanctioned for sale in Canada.

And if that wasn’t foreboding enough, a pending trade deal between Canada and the European Union means the country’s first approved GMO food animal, known colloquially as the “Frankenfish,” could soon be sold and eaten internationally...

Ted Cruz Says Fight Not Over With GOP Convention Nearing

Ted Cruz and his allies are preparing for the coming National GOP Convention. According to a report in NBC News, Cruz who recently attended a GOP convention in his home state of Texas told his supporters and the public that the days ahead will be "challenging" for the Republican Party. He, however, expressed hope that those who remain loyal to him and the party "will be the remnant, will be the core of pulling this country back from the abyss."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Okay, one more time.

1. The Constitution requires the President to be a natural born US citizen, meaning a US citizen born inside the United States.

2. Ted Cruz was born in Canada of parents who were Canadian citizens at the time of Ted's birth.

3. Canada did not recognize dual citizenship when Ted was born, so Ted's mother was not a US citizen at the time.

4. Ted's supporters insist that because Ted's mother was born in Delaware, that he was automatically a US citizen at birth. However, Ted Cruz' father was still married to his previous wife when Ted was born and Section 309(c) of the Immigration and Naturalization Act states that children born to American citizens in foreign lands OUT OF WEDLOCK do not receive birthright citizenship.

Ted Cruz and his supporters are ignoring the Constitution, and haven;t we already had too many politicians doing that lately?

Why I am a bit wary when sports networks start speaking for the 'Holocaust industry'

How can you tell when "remembering" horrible events is being twisted to defend the status quo and support the powerful against the weak? When a sports network airs a Nazi Holocaust-themed show.

Last week TSN ran a six-minute video feature about Hank Rosenbaum, a Polish Jew whose life was turned upside down when German troops invaded 77 years ago. The sports angle for TSN's "Yom HaShoah, the international day of remembrance for the more than 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust" commemoration, was that Rosenbaum became a hockey fan when he arrived in Toronto six decades ago. The sports network showed him watching his 10-year-old grandson's house league game.

While the Rosenbaum story was horrifying and more socially meaningful than TSN's typical fare, does it really represent a concern for human rights by the broadcaster?
