Israel will pay civilians $9,000 to capture African migrants

Israel is hiring civilian “immigration inspectors” to crack down on “illegal aliens and their employers,” marking a turning point in the Middle Eastern nation’s relationship with migrants and refugees.

In an advertisement this month, the Population and Immigration Authority said it would pay up to 30,000 Israeli shekels ($8,845) for civilians to carry out an “enterprise of national importance.” That included undertaking “enforcement tasks” against migrants that involved detecting, investigating, and arresting them. Candidates are expected to start in March 2018, a month before the country starts its designated “voluntary” process to return migrants to their country of origin or a third one.

The move comes a few weeks after Israel said it would help purchase tickets, obtain travel documents, and give $3,500 to African illegal migrants to leave—threatening them with arrest if they are caught after the end of March.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Perfectly predictable.

But then again, what CAN one expect... from a vilely apartheid, self-proclaimed "democracy", with nuclear weapons?!?

TRANSPARENCY ADVOCATES WIN RELEASE OF NYPD “PREDICTIVE POLICING” DOCUMENTS

Late last month, a Manhattan judge ordered the New York City Police Department to release documentation about the department’s use of secretive and highly controversial “predictive policing” surveillance technology, scoring a win for advocates of transparency on police policy. The documents came to light as part of a lawsuit against the city filed by the Brennan Center for Justice, a New York-based policy institute.

Little is known about how the largest domestic police force in the United States uses crime forecasting software, which works through analysis of historical crime data like arrest records, incident reports, gang documentation, and “stop and frisk” encounters to generate individual or geographic predictions of crime. In July 2015, then-NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton branded predictive policing as “the wave of the future” and entered into a trial program with at least one predictive policing company, the Philadelphia-based Azavea.

TRUMP’S NEW FRIDGE WILL COST TAXPAYERS $24,000,000.00

When Donald Trump was seeking the office of President, he frequently criticized the taxpayer dollars wasted on Air Force One. Trump even called for the canceling of the Boeing contract to construct a new fleet. However, like most of his promises made on the campaign trail, his since changed his mind.

Illustrating the insane nature of the US government’s bloat and excess, the taxpayers will be robbed of a whopping $24,000,000.00—to install a new refrigerator in Air Force One—seriously.

Boeing was awarded a $23,657,671.00 contract to design, test, and install two VC-25A G12/G13 chillers for the customized 747 jumbo jet in December.

“The Air Force requires that the current air chillers in the G12 and G13 galleys be modified with new cold food stowage to improve reliability and maintainability,” a contract notice from the Pentagon states.

Death Panels Next? FDA Approves A.I. Model That Predicts Your Chance Of 'Sudden Expiration'

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the very first artificial intelligence (AI) computer that monitors a patient’s vitals to help forecast sudden death up to six hours before the grim reaper shows up.

Excel Medical, a medical device data company in Florida, developed the deep learning algorithm called WAVE Clinical Platform for the eradication of unexpected hospital deaths.

To sum up, AI’s gift to humanity is the knowledge of when you supposed to die six hours before. As for the baby boomer generation, what would you do in your last six hours? Further, what happens when the technology progresses to 12-hours, and or even days in advance of your death. How will the human psyche process such knowledge?

How long before the same A.I. can predict your sudden death a few years out? ...and decide whether you're worth keeping around?

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is that last paragraph which troubles me about the use of this technology;

At 68, I still compose, have a day job, and yell (lovingly) at our church choirs.

Am I yet "irrelevant"?!? The short answer is, HELL, no!!

Will There be a US Nuclear Sneak Attack on North Korea?

Under the cover of the pre-Winter Olympics thaw between North and South Korea and the momentary lull in the “fire and fury” rhetoric from the Trump White House, there are growing signs that the Pentagon and the CIA are pressing ahead with preparations for a preemptive war against North Korea, including the use of nuclear weapons.

There have been multiple reports in the American corporate media of behind-the-scenes discussions between the US military and intelligence apparatus and the Trump administration of the feasibility of a so-called “bloody nose” attack, involving US air strikes on North Korean nuclear facilities, with the expectation—however ill-founded—that they would not provoke a full-scale war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A window for such an action is closing rapidly, and South Korea's Foreign Minister has openly stated that an attack against North Korea "is not an option"

Attacking North Korea is not an option

The games begin on 9 February, and end on 25 February. North Korea is participating in the event, and Vice-President Pence has stated that he will be in attendance, essentially to protect, as well he can, against any more talk of unification between North and South Korea.

But no matter how this attack is sliced and diced, should it go forward, the optics will be very bad for the US government, which will be blamed for it happening, no matter how they try to justify it.

Trump: No More Palestinian Aid Unless They Accept Peace Talks

Going off the script in remarks to the press Thursday in Davos, President Trump announced that the US will no longer provide any monetary aid to the Palestinians in any form, unless the Palestinian leadership agrees to enter peace talks with Israel.

Though there was no sign peace talks were about to resume at any rate, President Trump’s declaration that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital led Palestinian leadership to reject the idea of any US-mediated talks being possible.

Trump, however, is presenting the Jerusalem declaration as making things simpler, in that Jerusalem is now “off the table,” and that reduced the amount of important issues yet to be resolved.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please: this... is not "the art of the deal"; this ...is blackmail, particularly against Palestinian children and infants who so desperately need basic food and medicines just to survive.

Trump Confounded by Turkey’s Invasion of Syria

After years of piecemeal US military operations vaguely advancing ill-defined goals, the American position in Syria, and its vast collection of allies and enemies is so inscrutable that the State Department tried, and failed, to clarify what the US position actually is.

President Trump is being described as downright confounded about what to do about the Turkish invasion of Syria earlier this week, which sees the NATO member nation sending troops into Afrin District to attack the US-backed Kurdish YPG forces there.

In the immediate term, the US can, and largely has, chosen to ignore this and urge calm, though with US troops embedded in Kurdish territory elsewhere in Syria, including Manbij, Turkey’s talk of expanding the invasion would quickly put them in the line of fire.

It’s not as if this problem is a sudden surprise. Turkey’s been threatening the Kurds for years, and has been complaining about the US backing the Kurds more or less constantly in that same period of time.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There are no clear goals in this war against both Syria, and the reality is that the US government has failed, big time, to achieve its objective of regime change in Damascus.

I lay the President's confusion at the hands of that unholy triumverate of "President Whisperers" who have his ear right now, consisting of Kelly, Mc Masters, And Mattis; I suspect that the info about the coming debacle in Syria, and that the Turkish government was ultimately make good on its word to destroy the Kurds, got "filtered out" of any communication they had with President Trump on the issue.

And notice; not one tiny peep from the corporatized US presstitutes, that this was even happening. It has been labled "invisible to the US public (except to those who read or write blogs dedicated to ferreting out the truth, like WRH).

I first read of it on Friday, courtesy of zerohedge.com; then, the Turkish invasion was annouced at that same blog the following Sunday.

But this is Kryptonite to the US press, until the State Department has come up with some kind of a plan, to try to end this peacefully.

I am hoping - and praying - that none of the US embeds in Manbij are hurt or killed. But I am realistic enough to understand that this may well happen, and when that does happen, what the hell is the US government going to do about it?!?

Are our military in Syria to become the "sacrificial lambs", to be slaughtered as a "justification " for the US to go into Syria, hot and heavy, in a war against both Russia and Syria?!?

I wish I could bet that this will not happen; that at the end of the day, the US government will find a peaceful resolution, and get our troops safely out of Syria; unfortunately, however, just because an attack against Syria, and the Russian presence there, would be the most hamfistedly, pigheadedly stupid thing thing the US government and military could do right now, is absolutely no guarantee that it will not do it.

Turkey Will ‘Target’ US Troops If They Keep Supporting Syrian Kurds

US-Turkey tensions mounting surrounding the Turkish invasion of the Syrian Kurdish Afrin District look to be getting much worse, with Turkey’s deputy premier Bekir Bozdag warning that the US is the one risking confrontation by supporting the Kurds.

Bozdag warned the US needs to “review its soldiers and elements giving support to terrorists on the ground,” and that US forces who continue to support the Kurdish YPG, which Turkey considers terrorists “will become a target in this battle.”

The US isn’t believed to have any serious forces inside Afrin District, which Turkey is presently invading. Turkey’s President Erdogan, however, says they will attack Manbij next, and there are a substantial number of US troops deployed there.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, please let me get my head around this; Turkey, a NATO member, is threatening war against American troops embedded in Manbij, (The US is also a NATO member) if they find them embedded with the YPG there?!?!?

War with Turkey... over Syria?!?!?

This is a thoroughly insane situation, yet it has been brought about by the "magical thinking" inside the White House, Pentagon, and State Department, that if somehow the US was able to carve out a little piece of Syria to call "their own" (or the Kurd's own), and Syria's sovereign statehood be damned here, that they could somehow push Bashir Al Assad out of power, and regime change Damascus.

Not satisfied’ till Assad gone: US pushes for regime change as war in Syria winds

Erdogan has stated that he has "made a deal" with Moscow about this invasion into Turkey. And as an invited guest of the Syrian government, Russian troops, aligned with the Syrian troops, have done a formidable job of basically scraping most of the jihadists out of the country.

The question now is, what will happen if the situation in Manjib gets ugly quickly, and American military are shot and killed here?!?

Is the US government really thinking about spinning such a potential narrative here, as a reasonable excuse for going to war with Russia over Syria?!?

OSHA CITES KOCH FOODS IN GAINESVILLE, ALLEGES SAFETY, HEALTH VIOLATIONS

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has proposed penalties of $208,977 for Koch Foods' poultry processing operation in Gainesville.

According to a media release from the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA cited Koch Foods of Gainesville LLC for a repeat violation of allegedly failing to provide machine guarding, exposing employees to amputation hazards.

"Fourteen serious citations were issued for failing to provide fall protection, not identifying which employees were using hazardous energy control locks, and failing to train employees exposed to noise hazards," officials stated in the release.

The proposed penalty and citations were part of OSHA's Regional Emphasis Program for Poultry Processing Facilities.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That $200,000 fine is just a slap on the proverbial list, looking at the kinds of profits this company is making.

Estimated Revenue, Koch Brothers, 2015:
US $100 billion (2015)

IF OSHA really wanted to make a difference here, they would have on-the-ground inspectors at every plant the Koch brothers own, to prevent issues like this from happening.

Online Vendors Try to Make a Quick Buck as Cape Town Runs Out of Water

Day Zero—currently predicted to be April 12 by local officials—is the exact day when the city of Cape Town in South Africa will run out of water.

This may sound like a far-fetched, dystopian hellscape. But Cape Town has been dealing with ongoing drought for three years now because of a host of factors, including poor government planning, all aggravated by climate change. The dams and reservoirs that supply the city of an estimated 4 million people are running dangerously low. Already under water use restrictions, residents will soon have to collect rations of water piped into the city at centralized points, protected by armed guards.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Not mentioned in this article is a complete lack of care for existing water resources, resulting in crumbling infrastucture here, coupled with extensive government corruption.

DOWNTIME OF A TOP CLOUD SERVICE PROVIDER COULD COST U.S. ECONOMY $15 BILLION

Businesses in the United States could lose $15 billion if a leading cloud service provider would experience a downtime of at least three days. A new study finds that if a top cloud provider went down, manufacturing would see direct economic losses of $8.6 billion; wholesale and retail trade sectors would see economic losses of $3.6 billion; information sectors would see economic losses of $847 million; finance and insurance sectors would see economic losses of $447 million; and transportation and warehousing sectors would see economic losses of $439 million.

Businesses in the United States could lose $15 billion if a leading cloud service provider would experience a downtime of at least three days.

Lloyd’s, in partnership with the risk modeler, AIR Worldwide, on Tuesday released a new report, Cloud Down: The impacts on the U.S.economy, which analyzes the financial impact of the failure of a leading cloud provider in the United States.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Then why in the name of heaven would anyone want to put ANYTHING on the cloud, knowing the potential downside, particularly when product or service liability doesn't exist for the computer industry?!?

The sad state of software liability

The article goes on to state:

"Software license agreements are typically crammed with boilerplate language freeing the software provider from virtually all forms of liability while binding the commercial user to severe use restrictions. Unhappy with that? Too bad. Anyone who has ever installed software after “consenting” to the terms of the accompanying clickwrap, shrinkwrap or browsewrap understands that the disgruntled user has exactly two choices when it comes to mass market license agreements: take it or leave it.

NSA Deletes “Honesty” and “Openness” From Core Values

The National Security Agency maintains a page on its website that outlines its mission statement. But earlier this month, the agency made a discreet change: It removed “honesty” as its top priority.

Since at least May 2016, the surveillance agency had featured honesty as the first of four “core values” listed on NSA.gov, alongside “respect for the law,” “integrity,” and “transparency.” The agency vowed on the site to “be truthful with each other.”

On January 12, however, the NSA removed the mission statement page – which can still be viewed through the Internet Archive – and replaced it with a new version. Now, the parts about honesty and the pledge to be truthful have been deleted. The agency’s new top value is “commitment to service,” which it says means “excellence in the pursuit of our critical mission.”

Pot banning supervisors served recall notices

These anti-freedom mattoids are goin down, down, down!

Two county supervisors who played a role in enacting a pot ban in Calaveras County were served with notices of intent to recall them Tuesday during a board meeting in San Andreas.

Two separate groups, led by Jeremy Maddux of District 4 and Joan Wilson of District 1 respectively, served Supervisors Dennis Mills, District 4, and Gary Tofanelli, District 1, recall notices after both campaigns obtained more than the required 20 signatures since last week in support of their efforts.

Maddux said during public comment that Mills was a “divisive” politician, who brought a personal agenda into the office in banning cannabis. He condemned the supervisor for alleged Ralph M. Brown Act violations, “disparaging” remarks to county staff and disregard for members of the public who challenged his positions.

How a Cannabis Ban Turned One California County Into 'Ground Zero for Chaos'

After millions were invested in legal, environmentally safe Cannabis farms and over $12 million in taxes were collected from them, a new County Supervisor shut them all down. The count of Calaveras lost 20% of their operating funds. The only other industry they have is ranching and kale growing.

On Jan. 10, supervisors in this historic county—where Gold Rush mining camps flourished in 1850—voted to kill off the Green Rush that exploded here in 2016. By a 3–2 tally, the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors declared all commercial cannabis farms illegal. The county planning department estimated that as many as 1,600 commercial cannabis growers were operating in the region in mid-2017. Many of them were licensed by the county. Now, the move to ban cannabis businesses means every one of those growers must cease operations by May 1. Millions of dollars in tax money will vanish from the economically beleaguered county of 45,000 residents.

Declassified Files Expose UK's Secret Support of Murderous Dictator Pinochet

On September 11 1973, the democratically-elected Chilean government, led by President Salvador Allende, was overthrown in a brutal coup organized and backed by the US Central Intelligence Agency, and executed by the Chilean military. General Augusto Pinochet assumed leadership of the country, killing and torturing thousands of opposition figures.

The role of US government and intelligence services in supporting Pinochet before and after the coup is well-documented — the UK government doing much the same significantly less so. However, newly published declassified files have exposed Britain's secret collusion with his repressive junta from the day it seized power.

Pence to Attend Winter Olympics to Stop North Korea ‘Hijacking’ Games

White House officials have announced Tuesday that Vice President Mike Pence will attend the Winter Olympics in South Korea in early February, with an eye seemingly toward ensuring that North Korea’s attendance of the event doesn’t lead to improved relations.

Officials say Pence believes North Korea’s Kim Jong Un intends to “hijack” the Olympics with his country’s involvement, and that Pence will be there to offset the “charade” that is North Korea’s Olympic team.

Bilateral talks between North and South Korea have improved relations in recent weeks, and a big part of that is their agreement on the Olympics. The US clearly has problems with this improved relations between the two, and has gone to great lengths to present North Korea as somehow trying to trick everybody in being willing to negotiate.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Does the Vice President have a clue as to how these statements make it painfully apparently, that the only option the US government believes it has, regarding North Korea, is war?!?

I have never, this lifetime, seen the US government so thoroughly afraid of peace breaking out, and a potential accord being reached between the two Koreas.

This definitely makes me wonder if North Korea is absolutely the first country on the US government's timeline for "regime change", and a spontaneous reconcilliation between North and South Korea would absolutely destroy any attempts at regime change in the North.

Intense battles continue between Turkish fighters, Kurds in Syria's Afrin

Turkish soldiers are seen with their armored vehicles near Turkish-Syrian border in Hatay, Turkey, on Jan. 23, 2018. Turkish military's operations in Syria will continue "until all terrorists are fully eliminated" and 3.5 million Syrian refugees return home, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's spokesman said on Tuesday

- Intense battles continued Tuesday between the Turkish forces and the Kurdish-led troops on the outskirts of the Kurdish-controlled Afrin enclave in northern Syria, a monitor group reported.

The battles between the Turkish forces and the Kurdish-led fighters stretched from northeastern Afrin to its southwestern part, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Turkish warplanes also struck several targets in Afrin on Tuesday, killing two children and two women on Tuesday, the observatory said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Erdogan needs a quick ending to this invasion of Syria, because he absolutely doesn't want the optics here to be about massive Syrian casualties, but it appears that Kurds are not going to allow him that luxury.

Unfortunately, unless there is an immediate ceasefire, coupled with negotiations on a practical way to repatriate displaced Syrians taking shelter in Turkey, this could very well drag on, and morph into a hard, nasty campaign from both sides.

Monitors warn of preparations for fresh surge of fighting in Ukraine

Government troops and Russian-led militia in eastern Ukraine appear to be preparing for an escalation in fighting, international monitors warned on Tuesday, amid Kremlin condemnation of Kiev’s new legal stance on the grinding conflict.

The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) mission said neither side was abiding by the 2015 Minsk agreement, which has failed to end fighting that has killed more than 10,300 people and displaced 1.6 million.

“Instead of fully complying, instead of withdrawing weapons, disengaging and de-mining, it seems the sides are in fact doing the opposite,” said Alexander Hug, principal deputy chief monitor of the mission.

“All across eastern Ukraine [we have] been observing readiness. Everywhere we observe indications that the sides are preparing to continue the conflict, or even escalate it,” he said via video link from the main separatist-held city of Donetsk.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This could get nasty in a heartbeat; please remember in December of last year, the US approved of the sale of offensive weapons to Kiev.

When those weapons are actually delivered to the Ukrainian military, will most probably dictate the start of further conflicts here.

Let us hope and pray that tensions can be ratched down by both sides; otherwise, American troops permanently stationed in Ukraine could find themselves fighting Russians.

Putin, Erdogan discuss situation in Syria, including near Afrin — Kremlin

Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russian and Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey spoke over phone to discuss the situation in Syria, including near Afrin, where Turkey is conducting a military operation, the Kremlin press service said on Tuesday.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The two presidents exchanged views on the situation in Syria, including in the northwest of the country, near Afrin, where the Turkish armed forces are conducting a military operation. Both side stressed the importance of further joint efforts towards crisis settlement that are to be based on the principles of respect to Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty," the Kremlin said.

According to the press service, the two leaders also touched upon preparations for an upcoming Syrian National Dialogue Congress due to be held in Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi on January 29-30.

CIA Boss Gives Latest Indication Trump May Consider Preemptive Strike on North Korea

The Central Intelligence Agency is briefing President Donald Trump on the risks and opportunities of a limited attack on North Korea, its director suggested on Tuesday.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo would not discuss the “wisdom of a preemptive strike” on Pyongyang or its nuclear weapons program, he told an audience at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. But in rare public remarks, Pompeo portrayed North Korea as an urgent priority for the agency, and disclosed aspects of its role in setting back Kim Jong Un’s nuclear program during his first year at Langley.

Kim is a rational man, Pompeo said the CIA had assessed. But it’s less clear that Kim takes seriously the prospect of a U.S. attack, something that could blunder the world into a devastating nuclear conflict.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The question here is ... timing.

Faced with an economic collapse in this country, whatever war the US is going to trigger, be it against Russia, Iran, China, or North Korea, has to happen relatively quickly, to attempt to "misdirect" the American public as to the causes of the collapse, which they will immediately blame on the waror wars.

My best guess here would be, that the US will feign negotiations with North Korea, give them a time limit in which to engage, and if they "miss the window", either generate a "false flag", to be blamed on North Korea, or a actual attack, will happen.

I would like to politely remind CIA head Pompeo that China is producing some wonderful weapons which actually work as advertised; also, they conscript, which the Us does not at this time.

War with North Korea, unless they actually hit an American interest or target first, will most likely mean war with China.

MONTH AFTER GETTING $3.5 BILLION TAX BREAK FROM TRUMP, BANK OF AMERICA HIKES FEES ON POOREST CUSTOMERS

Consumer advocates and banking customers are expressing outrage after an announcement by the Bank of America that it would begin charging fees to account-holders who maintain low balances.

The decision, announced Monday, comes a month after the Republican tax law gave the bank an expected $3.5 million tax break, and less than a week after it posted $2.4 billion profits in the last quarter of 2017.

Critics argued that such news should garner at least as much attention as the bank's announcement last month that it would use some of the financial windfall to give its 145,000 employees a one-time bonus of $1,000 each—a relatively small portion of its tax savings.

MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEY SAYS HE’LL NO LONGER ACCEPT CONTRIBUTIONS FROM LAWYERS WITH CASES BEFORE HIM

After controversy over how he handled two prominent investigations, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said he would no longer take campaign donations from defense attorneys with cases before him.

Vance said his campaign will no longer accept contributions in any amount from such lawyers and will cap donations from their law partners. Vance was re-elected in November to a four-year term.

The district attorney also will not solicit contributions personally and will have his campaign shield him from the identities of his donors. Candidates for judgeships in New York state follow similar guidelines.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The question I have, is why is this not ilegal to have sitting judges accept "donations" (read: bribes) from attorneys over whose cases they may be presiding?!?

This smacks of a complete contempt for what is supposed to be "due process".

DEMOCRATS DEMAND TWITTER, FACEBOOK CRACKDOWN ON #RELEASETHEMEMO "RUSSIAN BOTS", THERE IS JUST ONE PROBLEM...

Last week, a four page memo detailing FBI abuse of FISA warrants against the Trump campaign was circulated within the US House of Representatives
Amid calls from several Congressional Republicans, the hashtag #ReleaseTheMemo immediately went viral
In an effort to downplay genuine public concern, a "Russian propaganda" tracking website used primarily by Democrats and Neoconservatives has suggested that #ReleaseTheMemo went viral thanks to Russian bots
California Reps. Dianne Feinstein and Adam Schiff sent a letter to Facebook and Twitter CEO's on Tuesday, asking that they take action against the Russian scourge

Meanwhile, Tw.itter's internal analysis of the hashtag has thus far found that authentic American accounts, not Russians, are driving #ReleaseTheMemo, according to The Daily Beast.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This attempt by the Democrats to misdirect the justified anger of Americans at what went down at the last election (where Bernie Sanders was denied the opportunity to represent the Democratic party as their Presidential Candidate, because the DNC stole it for Hillary) will NOT"... go gentle into that good night, nor will the lie about Russian tampering !!

It is obvious to me that the Democrats are well and truly terrified, right now, because Americans are demanding the truth.

Now Trump Menaces Pakistan

If the Pakistan-Afghanistan border had been mined and fenced on both sides, as proposed by Pakistan, and patrolled aggressively by the armies of both countries, nobody could claim that illegal crossings would have been easy. If the Afghan army had been ordered to cooperate with their opposite numbers across the border, and if there had been coordinated surveillance and aggressive foot patrols – as wanted by the Pakistan military – then it would have been very difficult indeed for insurgents to cross in either direction. The US did not approve Pakistan’s proposal for fencing and minefields and did not supply any assistance for the project. So the barrier was not erected.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The only thing this set of bone-headed moves are going to do, regarding Pakistan, is to thrown it more deeply into the orbit of China and Russia.

The only characterisations of US foreign policy one can state with a straight face, right now are, "incoherent and fractured."

A Coming Russia-Ukraine War?

While much of America’s – and the world’s – attention focused this weekend reflecting on Donald Trump’s first year in the Oval Office, holding one-year anniversary events for the historic Women’s March and drawing up balance sheets of his promises and achievements, Russia has had a rather different issue on the front-burner: a possible war with Ukraine.

The situation in the Donbass region of south-eastern Ukraine has been a feature of Russia’s political talk shows for the past couple years, along with the military campaign in Syria and more recently the stages in the preparation for presidential elections on March 18.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And to whom have the US government and NATO pledged allegiance should such a war break out?!?

Why, UKRAINE, of course!!

Here is what has transpired, so far:

Ukraine hosts US military PERMANENTLY STATIONED ON ITS SOIL.

Amid Russian Tensions, US Army continues to build up Ukrainian Training Center

Folks, I am havng a double facepalm, at warp speed, upon reading this; and the intense upsurge in the demonizing of Russia right now, isn't helping anything.

I am very concerned about a US/Ukrainian war against Russia, and for the following, logical reasons:

1. With all of their existing missions, US military forces are stretched nearly beyond belief. Russia conscripts; the US goverment has ot done so in a long time. And sould such a war be brewing, I would not bet against the reinstitution of the draft in this country.

2. The US military doesn't have the money, or the manufacturing, to pursue a war against Russia in Ukraine.

3. The US military doesn't have the weaponry to insure a positive outcome to such a war. The world has witnessed the integrity and capability of Russia's weapons during their mission in Syria, and that was something to behold.

The US military?!? I give you the F-35, which has cost taxpayers billions, and delivered little of what it promised, even at this late date.

A war against Russia in Syria would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing that the US government could possibly do at this moment; unfortunately, however, that is utterly no guarantee whatsoever, that it will not do this.

Syrian Kurdish Forces Launch Powerful Counterattack Against Turkey

Turkey is hoping for a quick victory in Afrin, but its soldiers and allied Syrian militiamen are facing counter-attacks by Kurdish forces on villages close to the border. The Kurds are reported to be readying reinforcements to join the battle from their bases in north east Syria where they have thousands of troops who until recently were fighting Isis.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan says there would be “no stepping back from Afrin” which means that the campaign, bizarrely named ‘Operation Olive Branch’, will continue. But it will take time to drive the Kurdish YPG paramilitary forces out the Afrin enclave north of Aleppo. So far the Turkish offensive has captured only a few villages close to the border in three days of fighting and there are a total of 350 villages in Afrin.

The population of the enclave is estimated to be 200,000, many of whom will be come refugees if Turkey and Arab militiamen take control.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And we have that story accompanied by the following:

US Struggles With Fighting Between Turkey, Syrian Kurds, Two Key Allies

US warnings and calls for restraint have failed, and Turkey has invaded Syria’s Afrin District, beginning what could be a protracted battle with the US-backed Kurdish YPG. Two major US allies are in open conflict.

US allies have often clashed in the course of the Syrian War, but this is shaping up to be a long military campaign by Turkey, which has been looking to push against the Kurds for quite some time.

The US is so far just calling for “restraint,” but their involvement in the fight could come quite quickly, as Turkish officials have repeatedly said after Afrin, they’ll be attacking the YPG-held city of Manbij, a city that has US troops embedded within.

The US initially sent troops to Manbij to try to deter a Turkish invasion, betting they wouldn’t want to risk causing casualties to a fellow NATO member. That the fight is already ongoing now may change that calculation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So let me get this straight; the US military has troops embedded with the YGB in Mandij, the city in Syria Turkey has announced it will attack next.

Is the White House planning to create an exit corridor through which the American troops be able to leave, and quickly, or are they "sacrificial lambs" with which to justify a full-on invasion of Syria and/or Turkey?!?

This is about to get ugly, quickly.

Destroying, Suppressing Evidence Is FBI Standard Procedure

The FBI-issued cell phone of Peter Strzok, whose previous texts to his mistress (also an FBI employee) showed fierce hostility to Trump, suddenly had problems due to “software upgrades” and other issues — and voila — all the messages between the two from Dec. 14, 2016, to May 17, 2017 vanished. Strzok, who oversaw the Trump investigation from its start in July 2016, was removed from Mueller’s Special Counsel investigation last summer after the Justice Department Inspector General discovered his anti-Trump texts.

Stephen Boyd, the assistant attorney general for legislative affairs, notified a Senate committee that “data that should have been automatically collected and retained for long-term storage and retrieval was not collected.” The missing texts could have obliterated the remnants of credibility of the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign.

House Republicans clash over secret memo

House Republicans are sharply divided over how to handle a classified memo that President Donald Trump’s allies say contains explosive details of misconduct by senior FBI and Justice Department officials.

The memo, compiled by House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes and fellow Republicans on the panel, claims that senior federal officials abused a secret surveillance program, commonly known as FISA, to target the Trump campaign. It also alleges other federal law enforcement wrongdoing that some Republicans insist should lead to the firings of senior officials.

But while several Republicans have publicly cited the document as cause for alarm—triggering an aggressive Twitter campaign that has featured dozens of supportive tweets by the president's son, Donald Trump Jr.—they have not detailed its specific allegations.

How ex-congresswoman helped squelch reports of secret government surveillance

When two New York Times reporters learned in 2004 that the George W. “There are times when classified materials must be protected,” she told The Chronicle.

Details of the far-reaching, legally unauthorized surveillance program remained secret until the Times published the article in late 2005, more than a year after Bush was narrowly elected to a second term.

Lost FBI Texts Could Form Basis for Motion to Dismiss in Trump Team Fight Against Russia Probe

The latest news that five months’ worth of text messages between FBI agent Peter Strzok and DOJ attorney Lisa Page is sure to make supporters of President Donald Trump continue to claim that the Russia investigation is a politically-motivated scheme. More importantly, however, Trump’s lawyers will now be able to do the same.

Strzok has already been outed as anti-Trump, leading to his dismissal from the probe, and his past communications with Page showed a potential Justice Department bias towards Hillary Clinton. The fact that now nearly half a year’s worth of text messages between Strzok and Page during the time leading up to Robert Mueller‘s appointment as Special Counsel weren’t preserved by the Justice Department will surely fuel motions from Team Trump’s lawyers against the investigation.

Turkey ‘will not take a step back’ in Afrin operation: Erdo?an

Turkey will “not take a step back” from its operation into Afrin and has an agreement with Russia regarding its military offensive against the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the northwestern Syrian city, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said on Jan. 22.

He was speaking on the third day of “Operation Olive Branch,” during which one civilian in the southern province of Hatay was killed as a result of rocket fire from YPG militants across the border in Afrin.

“The Afrin issue will be resolved. There will be no step back. We have discussed it with the Russians and we have an agreement with them,” Erdo?an told businesspeople gathered for an award ceremony in the capital Ankara.

He reiterated that Turkey’s offensive into Afrin will only be over once objectives are accomplished in the field, “just like the Euphrates Shield Operation” in mid-2016.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Note that Edrogan states that " We have discussed it with the Russians and we have an agreement with them.”

Very few US news outlets, even blogs, are discussing this, and there is no mention on the corpratized US presstitute media, and I will go into the reasons for this a little later in this article.

I am going to be linking to several articles which appear today at http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com, a Turkish daily blog in English which has a number of news/op-ed pieces which, I believe, all thinking Americans should be reading.

Turkey, Russia, and Iran agree on 1600 Attendees list for Sochi Meeting

This meeting is will be dedicated to creating a peaceful, stable situation in Syria, where the voices of minorities can get heard.

Turkey was infuriated by unilateral US actions in Syria-Lavrov

This article goes on to state that:

"Unilateral U.S. actions in Syria infuriated Turkey, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said, adding that Washington’s bid to cooperate with the People’s Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara sees as a terrorist group, is a misunderstanding if not a provocation.

“Either it is a misunderstanding of the whole situation, or a deliberate provocation,” Anadolu Agency quoted Lavrov as saying at a press conference in Moscow on Jan. 22.

“We have already drawn attention to the fact that the U.S. have embarked on the creation of alternative authorities in large parts of Syrian territory,” Lavrov said.

“In Syria, Washington supplies arms both openly and discreetly to groups that cooperate with them, especially the SDF,” he said referring to the Syrian Democratic Forces, which is largely dominated by the YPG.

“The U.S. has announced the creation of certain ‘border forces’ in Syria. Clumsy denials followed. But the fact is they are still trying to control the border,” Lavrov said.

The reason yhou have barely heard a thing from the corporatized presstitutes on this issue, is that the on-going Turkish invasion of Syria represents a staggering "epic fail" of American foreign policy in the Middle East, but right now, without declaring (or NOT declaring a war, but acting covertly) against Syria; Turkey; or Russia, the US government is thoroughly impotent of doing anything about it, other than issue "milk toast", boiler-plate stements calling for "restraint"

THAT is why you are seeing, ad nauseum, images of a thouroghy disfunctional Congress, trying to figure out how to get back to working (allegedly) for We the People!

I even doubt that the adroitly skilled and nuanced Sarah Saunders, White House Press Secretary, will be able to put a positive spin on this Turkish invasion of Syria. No matter how she tries to slice and dice it, the neon red, flashing optics are officially horrible, with regard to US foreign policy.

"BRAZEN PLOT TO EXONERATE HILLARY CLINTON" AND FRAME TRUMP UNRAVELING, SAYS FORMER FED PROSECUTOR

A former Federal Prosecutor sat down with The Daily Caller to give perhaps the most comprehensive rundown of the Obama Administration's "brazen plot to exonerate Hillary Clinton" and "frame an incoming president with a false Russian conspiracy."

In this highly recommended 30 minute interview with Joe diGenova, the former Special Counsel who went after both the Teamsters and former NY Governor Elliot Spitzer, paints a very clear picture of collusion is painted between the Obama administration, the FBI, the Clinton campaign and opposition research firm Fusion GPS.

What this is about, this is about a lavabo, a cleansing of FBI and the upper echelons of the Department of Justice.

We're going to discover that the Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, her deputy Sally Yates, the head of the national security division John Carlin, Bruce Ohr and other senior DOJ officials, and regrettably, lying attorneys.

WATCH: COP ATTACKS HANDCUFFED SCHOOL GIRL, VIOLENTLY SLAMS HER INTO THE CONCRETE

A school resource officer is under fire after a video was released online that showed him slamming a female student to the ground and then handcuffing her, while two other men stood nearby and did nothing to intervene.

After the video went viral, the La Mesa Police Department responded in a statement, claiming that the 17-year-old girl was “arrested by a La Mesa Police School Resource Officer for refusing to obey a lawful order to leave school grounds and resisting arrest.”

The department claimed that the video released online showed a small segment of an encounter in which “Helix High School staff requested the assistance of the School Resource Officer to remove a student, who was on suspended status and non-compliant with staff directions to leave the campus.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Welcome to "education" in public schools in Amerika, where the State's Representative can slam a kid's head into the floor with absolutely no real provocaton or cause whatsoever, and there will be absolutely no repercussions for that "Resource Officer".

Were I a parent at Helix High, I would pull my kid out of that school so quickly that the principal's head spin.

Before I did this, however, I would be researching the nearest "magnet schools", private schools, and home schooling groups where my kid would at least be educated, and where teachers and principals, working to gether with families, want to keep parents in the loop consistently.

And if all parents here did this, the school would no longer receive the Federal or California State grants which fund it, and the school, ultimately, would have to shut down.

Parents have more power than they realize; but they need to be ready to "come up to the plate" and use it wisely and morally, in defense of their kids.

MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX ENSURES AMERICANS WAR WILL GO ON DESPITE GOV’T SHUTDOWN

The United States government’s mission of spreading empire, destabilizing peaceful countries, and violent regime changes will not be hindered by the government shutdown. Our fearless rulers have ensured Americans that the military-industrial complex will be just fine—despite not paying the soldiers.

On Saturday, Vice President Mike Pence encouraged troops to focus on their missions and ensured them that they will be just fine even though their paychecks won’t come in next week.

Although military personnel remain deployed and on the job, they won’t be paid unless Congress votes to compensate them.

“We’ll get this thing figured out in Washington,” Pence said early Saturday as he greeted US servicemen in Ireland shortly after the government shutdown. “Stay focused on your mission,” he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to remind both sides of the aisle that without paychecks, our military and their families will not be able to put food on the table, or pay their mortgages or rents.

Desperate, they may well become targets of "payday loan" sharks, which dole out relatively small amounts of money for staggeringly usurious interest rates.

As much as I abhor war as what appears to be, in the minds of those in the bowels of power, the only only way in which the US government can resolve their geopolitical differences with other countries, not paying our military stinks to high heaven.

Turkish Warplanes Pound Kurds, Thousands of Syrian Rebels Bused to Border

Following up on a flurry of Friday artillery strikes against Kurdish forces in the Afrin District on northern Syria, Turkish warplanes carried out a large number of airstrikes against the small district, with at least 108 strikes reported, leaving the towns’ streets empty, and locals panicking.

Syria’s government complained Turkey hadn’t informed them of the attacks, adding that they “strongly condemn” Turkish aggression. Syria had threatened to target Turkish warplanes raiding their airspace, however, and there’s so far no sign of this happening.

Instead the US-backed Kurds are getting hammered from the air, and Turkey is now not only massing their own troops at the Afrin border, but has bused in thousands of Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels to attack the Kurds as well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder just how long this will be allowed to continue without US/Russian/Syrian military intervention.

Russian forces re-deployed from Afrin after Turkey’s offensive - Russia’s Defense MinistryMore:http://tass.com/defense/986083

An operations group of the Russian center for reconciliation of warring sides and military police has been re-deployed from Syria’s Afrin to Tel Ajar after Turkey had launched its offensive, Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

The ministry said that "the command of the Russian military group in Syria has taken steps to provide security of the Russian servicemen, who had been stationed in Afrin canton, where the Turkish Armed Forces have mounted a ‘special operation’ against Kurdish units."

"The operations group of the center for reconciliation of warring sides and military police have been redeployed from the area of Afrin to the area of Tel Ajar in the Tel Rifaat de-confliction zone in order to avoid possible provocations and to ensure Russian servicemen’s lives and health are not exposed to risks," the ministry said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: this may be a retreat, but it appears to be a tactical retreat only, to keep Russian soldiers safe, until Putin and Lavrov decide precisely how to approach this Turkish invasion of Northern Syria.

But in the genral theme of things, the optics here cannot appear as through Russia has "backed down" from assisting Syria militarily, or allow Turkey to appear militarily successful in this bombing campaign and invasion.

Turkey’s Operation Olive Branch ‘aims to bring 10,000 km2 of Afrin under control’

The Prime Ministry’s Office of Public Diplomacy has cited the reasons for Turkey’s military operation against Syria’s northern Afrin province in a 12-article note.

The note, titled “What Turkey aims to do with Afrin operation,” was posted on the office’s official Twitter account on Jan. 21. It cited the following reasons for the operation:

* To ensure the Turkey-supported Free Syrian Army (FSA) takes control of a 10,000-square kilometer area.

* Following on from the Euphrates Shield Operation and the operation in Idlib, to completely prevent the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) from reaching the Eastern Mediterranean.

* To eliminate the possibility of losing Turkey’s geographical contact with the Arab world.

* To ensure the security of our borders with Syria.

* To prevent the infiltration of the Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the PKK into Turkey through the Amanos Mountains.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice that last point: "To counter US support for a terrorist organization", and by that statement, Turkey is referring to all Kurds, not just the PKK.

And that 10,000 square kilometers to which the Turkish government refers, is nearly 3,900 square miles; not an insignificant hunk of Syrian real estate!

But as far as I can see this morning, there has been absolutely zero military response to the bombardment yesterday or invasion today of Syria by Turkey; not from the United States Government; not from Russia, and not from the Syrian military or government.

Turkey launches major land operation into YPG militants in Syria's Afrin

Turkey has begun a land operation on the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), with troops entering Syrian soil at 11:05 a.m. on Jan. 21, Prime Minister Binali Y?ld?r?m told a group of journalists.

“Our units have entered Afrin from two branches at 11:05 a.m. with the Free Syrian Army. This means the land operation has begun,” Y?ld?r?m said, speaking to the editors of Turkish news publications in a meeting held in Istanbul.

The operation, which came hours after a major air strike on the YPG on Jan. 20, will consist of four phases to create a safe zone with a 30-kilometer depth, he said.

The first phase would be aimed to form a secure zone on the Turkish borders between Azaz and Afrin. Following the first phase, Y?ld?r?m said, the "cleaning" would require an even more thorough work and "there was no need to rush."

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Webcrawl on Faux News barely mentioned the Turkish bombing campaign in Afrin yesterday, and has certainly not mentioned the land invasion of northern Syria by Turkey today in any meaningful way.

From the time of the Ottoman Empire to the present, one skill set at which the Turkish government and military continues to be magnificently adept is genocide.

The Turkish Genocide of Armenians

When Yildirm made the observation that "There are around 8,000 to 10,000 terrorists in Afrin,", he is, hubristically, attempting to "groom" the rest of the world to be prepared for an horrifically overwhelming number of dead Kurds from this operation; women; infants; children; and the medically fragile elderly most likely will not be spared.

And what I want to know is, just how many US troops are embedded with these Kurdish troops in and around Afrin, and what happens when those US troops get shot and killed or maimed for life by Turkish forces?!?

Did the Turkish government covertly warn the US government that this was going to happen in time to get those US troops safely out of that area of Syria?!?

No one at the White House seems to be saying anything, and this... is a really bad sign for both innocent, non-combatant Kurds, and for our troops in that region of the world. I mean, a couple of months ago, wasn't the US government attempting to create an independent Kurdistan out of bits of Northern Syria?!?

Specter of Syrian Kurdistan: How US' Covert Plan is Taking Shape

And if this is, in fact was "the US plan" for the Kurdish people, why has President Trump done absolutely nothing to prevent, or at least, mitigate, Edrogan's invasion of Syria?!?

There are way too many questions, and not nearly enough intelligent answers.

Right now, I am praying for the Kurdish non-combatants in Afrin, and hoping for a way in which they can be evacuated to safety; but that would probably need Russian assistance from the Syrian side, and I don't see the presence of any Russian military yet in the region.

Fierce battle erupts over releasing intelligence report

A battle erupted Friday over a push by Republican lawmakers to release a report they say will reveal high-level government abuse around the federal investigation into possible ties between Trump campaign officials and Russia.

Even as Congress hurtled toward a shutdown, Republicans in the House were buzzing over the contents of a classified memo on alleged surveillance abuses that was produced by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).

Scores of Republicans viewed the controversial memo in secure settings at the Capitol and concluded it contains hard evidence that the special counsel investigation into whether Trump’s campaign officials had improper contacts with Russia were sparked by the politically motivated actions of senior FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) officials.
