WikiLeaks Release: US Recruits Hollywood to Boost 'Anti-Russian Messaging'

The latest documents released by Wikileaks reveal some uncomfortable – yet unsurprising – truths about the relationship between Hollywood and the US Government. The Imitation Game

Webmaster's Commentary:

As long as I am descending into doing movie reviews today, I feel I should mention "The Imitation Game" because I plan to talk about it on today's radio show. The film is about the life of Allen Turing, the brilliant mathematician who built the machine which cracked German's ENIGMA code for the allies, and how he was cruelly treated by UK law for being a homosexual afterwards, driving him to suicide at the age of 41. Benedict Cumberpatch does a great job of portraying Turing, even down to the recognizable traces of Asperger's Syndrome which many have concluded Turing suffered from. Worth a watch.

BIG EYES MOVIE

A drama about the awakening of the painter Margaret Keane, her phenomenal success in the 1950s, and the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband, who claimed credit for her works in the 1960s.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Claire and I watched this film last night. To be very honest, I had been unaware of how Marget was the real artist behind the big eyes phenomenon when I was young, even though the case was finally resolved here in Hawaii. Being an ardent supporter of my own wife's creative endeavors I actually got angry with the character of the husband and how he could do what he did, as well as why it took so long for Margaret to stand up for herself.

But what is really notable about the film is that Tim Burton, whose prior work tended to be out on the fringe with "Edward Scissorhands", "Dark Shadows", etc. did a great job in telling this straight drama. There were only a few moments when Tim Burton went back to his "safe zone" in terms of style.

The 10 Greatest Dystopian Films From the Past 10 Years

So what will the future think of us when they study the entertainment we consume? Surely they’ll scoff at the vapid reality shows, the sports, and the news. But if they really want to get to know us and our culture, they’ll seek out our science fiction movies, and find a veritable library of post-apocalyptic and dystopian works. That says a hell of a lot about us, and our darkest fears and desires.

Here are ten of those movies from the past decade that are a cut above the rest.

Darwin Weeps: Warning Labels and Technology Render the Survival Mindset Obsolete

Sometimes, warning labels concern me.

I mean, who inspired the label on blow dryers that points out the device should not be used in the shower? And what would even be the point, barring electrocution? Why would you dry your hair while the water is spraying you?

And are there actually people who need to be cautioned not to light a candle until they remove it from the package?

Also, you know those plastic bags that hold clothing when you order it online? Who needs to be offered the sage advice that it’s not a good idea to put said bag over their head?

Maybe, with all of these warning labels, we’re rendering Darwin’s principle of natural selection invalid.

Harvey Weinstein accused of groping Italian model, 22, in his office at Tribeca Film Center: sources

Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is accused of groping a 22-year-old Italian model he met at the red-carpet premiere of his Radio City “New York Spring Spectacular.”

The model told cops that the Oscar-winning Hollywood producer sexually abused her after coaxing her to his Manhattan office on the pretext of talking business, sources told the Daily News.

The woman informed cops that Weinstein, a married 63-year-old father of five, groped her breasts and reached up her skirt around 6 p.m. Friday in his third-floor office at the Tribeca Film Center on Greenwich St., sources said.

“He asked if her breasts were real before touching them,” a police source said. “She asked him to stop, and he put his hand up her skirt. He asked for a kiss; she responded ‘No.’”

Texas Cop Forced Into Counseling for Taking Instagram Photo With Snoop Dogg

Some people don’t care for rap music, but the Texas Department of Public Safety apparently hates it so much that they disciplined a state trooper last week for nothing more than standing next to Snoop Dogg in a photograph. The trooper obliged him, even though he later claimed he didn’t know anything about the man who approached him, other than that he was a famous musician.

How Scientology controls John Travolta and Tom Cruise, according to ‘Going Clear’

HBO hired 160 lawyers when the network decided to air “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief,” the two-hour documentary based on Lawrence Wright’s book. This makes sense when you watch the film, directed by Alex Gibney, which aired Sunday night. Ex-Church of Scientology members and officials reveal secrets of the organization, and tell horror stories of psychological and physical abuse during their time in the controversial religion — and after they escaped. (For the record, the church unleashed a series of attack ads against the film and says that it’s “bigoted propaganda” and ” built on falsehoods invented by admitted liars.”)

Webmaster's Commentary:

One interesting story is how the Church of Scientology intentionally wrecked Tom Cruise's marriage to Nicole Kidman, who was seen as a threat to their control over Cruise, then created a "replacement" girlfriend to lure him back to the church.

US Propaganda in Korea Exposes American TV as Social Engineering Tool

Tony Cartalucci

When Wired published its article, “The Plot to Free North Korea with Smuggled Episodes of ‘Friends,’” it probably hoped that its impressionable, politically ignorant audience would not pick up on the underlying facts and their implications, and simply see a “cute” anecdote poking fun at the besieged East Asian country while inflating their own sense of unwarranted cultural superiority.

What they missed, of course, is the fact that the program peddled by Wired as the work of “the North Korea Strategy Center and its 46-year-old founder, Kang Chol-hwan,” is in fact funded and organized instead by the US State Department...

Penn credited Cheney and his boss for inspiring the brutal Islamic State extremist group sowing terror in the Middle East.

Universal Music Group Hijacked My Music on YouTube

They have then released the audio-book on CD (fair enough, if they have paid the license fee), but they have also put the audio-book into YouTube’s Content-ID system, which creates a digital audio “fingerprint” of the music, and then proceeds to sniff out any YouTube videos that contain this audio, for the YouTube system to then send a “Copyright notice” to the Youtube video uploader, telling him that his video “contains music owned by UMG”, and then put advertising on the video, for which money is paid to UMG.

One thing would have been to have done this unwittingly, by mistake. But I have “disputed” the claim on YouTube, written an explanation and told them about the origins of this music — then waited the FULL 30 DAYS that the claimant has to process the dispute, only to be told that UMG have reviewed the dispute and UPHELD their claim!

Jon Voight: Obama ‘Does Not Love Israel’

The Karate Dog star Jon Voight released a video message Sunday, to whatever the demographic for that might be, warning that Obama is an enemy of Israel, and that those seeking a deal with Iran over its nuclear program were, sigh, like Neville Chamberlain.

“I want to see Israel survive and not be overtaken by the madmen of this world,” Voight said. “President Obama does not love Israel. His whole agenda is to control Israel. And this way he can be friends with all of Israel’s enemies…America has not been the same since his presidency.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Reader comment: US president's job is not love another country, his job is to serve the interests of the United States at it's best. Love stories are left to Hollywood.
Voigh seems to support Bibi Netanyahu by attacking his opponents, bringing the silly argument that Iran today is the old Nazi Germany .
Voigh is cautioning of another Chamberlain deal with the Nazi, a typical Bibi's propaganda headline sell.
