US Defense Chief Arrives In Iraq Amid Renewed Assault On Mosul

Secretary of Defense James Mattis arrived in Baghdad for an unannounced visit Monday, just 24 hours after government forces launched a renewed push to capture the western parts of Mosul from Islamic State. The country’s second largest city has been under ISIS control since 2014, when the US-trained Iraqi army capitulated and fled in the face of the jihadis’ advance.

We're Not In Iraq To Seize Oil: US Defense Secretary James Mattis

Before arriving on an unannounced visit to Baghdad, US Defense Secretary James Mattis has said Americans are “not in Iraq to seize” their oil.

His comments, made on Monday while traveling towards Iraq, appeared to be an attempt to distance him from the recent remarks by President Donald Trump regarding Iraq and its oil.

Trump’s Defense Chief: We’re Not In Iraq To Seize Anybody’s Oil

“I think all of us here in this room, all of us in America have generally paid for our gas and oil all along and I’m sure that we will continue to do so in the future.”

The U.S. military is not in Iraq “to seize anybody’s oil”, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said, distancing himself from remarks by President Donald Trump at the start of a visit to Iraq on Monday.

Mattis, on his first trip to Iraq as Pentagon chief, is hoping to assess the war effort as U.S.-backed Iraqi forces launch a new push to evict Islamic State militants from their remaining stronghold in the city of Mosul.

But he is likely to face questions about Trump’s remarks and actions, including a temporary ban on travel to the United States and for saying America should have seized Iraq’s oil after toppling Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Trump told CIA staff in January: “We should have kept the oil. But okay. Maybe you’ll have another chance.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sec-Def Mattis, please allow me to educate you as to the origins of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq.

This invasion and occupation of Iraq was purely economic, and done to prevent Iraq's oil to be sold for any other currency than the petrodollar.

Iraq war: the dollar versus the Euro

And so, sir, what do we have in Iraq today?!? We have an absolutely destroyed Iraqi infrastructure, coupled with a completely corrupt US-Centric (and dependent) Iraqi government, and its oil sold only in US dollars.

But that was the point of the exercise, was it not?!? It doesn't have anything to do with "seizing the oil"; it has everything to do with Iraqi oil being sold only in US dollars.

You're welcome, sir!!

IRAQ STARTED OPERATION TO LIBERATE WESTERN MOSUL FROM ISIS

On Sunday, Iraqi forces officially launched a military operation to liberate the western part of the city of Mosul from the ISIS terrorist group.

The Iraqi military and the Federal Police liberated a number of villages, including Al-Kafour, Jasmia, Bijwarey, Athba and Lazaka, southwest of the city and stormed the Mu`askar al Ghazlani military base.

The move allowed Iraqi forces to deploy to within striking distance from the Mosul International Airport located in the ISIS-held part of Mosul.

Fakest News: The Iraq War

A new poll from YouGov shows that most Americans still believe that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction at the start of the Iraq war:

That’s stunning, given that President Bush, Prime Minister Blair, the CIA, SecDef Rumsfeld, SecState Powell, National Security Advisor Rice, Bush’s chief strategist Rove, “Curveball” (the alias of the name of the unreliable WMD information) and other top officials have all publicly admitted that Iraq had no WMDs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yes, corporate media is still pushing the story that Iraq had WMDs that were never found, but in many cases, Americans who supported the invasion of Iraq do not want to have to admit to themselves they were wrong to have done so, and grasp any piece of propaganda, no matter how flimsy, to save themselves from self-examination.

FLASHBACK : The Roots of the Refugee Crisis Caused by the West

“The reason so many are fleeing places such as Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq is that U.S. and European interventionist foreign policy has left these countries destabilized with no hopes of economic recovery,”explainedformer congressman and three-time presidential contender Ron Paul, a leading voice for a constitutional, non-interventionist U.S. foreign policy. “This mass migration from the Middle East and beyond is a direct result of the neocon foreign policy of regime change, invasion, and pushing ‘democracy’ at the barrel of a gun.”

“Contrary to what one might expect, U.S. military aid doesn’t produce willing, cooperative, or effective security partners. Instead, it incentivizes bad behavior and drives the sources of terrorism: corruption, violence, and poor governance. Unwittingly, this policy is creating its own enemies,” writes Jeremy Ravinsky.

FAKE NEWS WEEK: Government & Mainstream Media’s ‘Wag the Dog’ War on Reality

The purpose of this article is to illustrate how three rather large mainstream media lies were used as a pretext for war in the Middle East, three aspects that have separately, albeit symbiotically, altered the course of Western foreign policy by way of deception, and dramatically paved the way to destabilization in Iraq, and later to Libya, and finally to Syria.

Government entities, along with mainstream TV news, print media and PR firms – have all worked hand in hand to heavily influence the public’s political perspective concerning the reality of modern warfare. Let’s take a look a how deliberate fabrication was used to accelerate Western interests in the Middle East…

THE U.S. PLAN TO TOPPLE ALL 7 COUNTRIES ON TRUMP’S REFUGEE BAN LIST

According to four-star General Wesley Clark, shortly after the attacks of 9/11, the Pentagon adopted a plan to topple the governments of seven countries; Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran.

According to Reuters, Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order that would include a temporary refugee ban and a suspension of visas for citizens of Syria and six other Middle Eastern and African countries.

The list is expected to include Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. If those countries are starting to sound familiar, there’s a reason for that.

According to four-star General Wesley Clark, shortly after the attacks of 9/11, the Pentagon adopted a plan to topple the governments of seven countries; Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The more I look at the first actions of the Trump presidency, the more I am terrifyingly convinced that the real winner of last November's election was the power-hungry, money mad, and deeply psychotic, American Deep State.

The hard, inescapable reality here is that the American Deep State is all about expropriating resources from countries to which it has no moral right; insuring those countries are run by US/Western-centric governments; and insuring that those resources are only sold for the US dollar.

The blood and money spent is of no consequence to those people running the American deep state, as long as their financial/geopolitical objectives are obtained.

And those American military killed or maimed for life in the process of achieving their financial goals?!? Merely collateral damage, for the sake of private corporate profit.

Of course, politicians cannot possibly say that to grieving families and friends of those killed or maimed; they are assured with such nostrums as "They died to protect this country and the American way of life."

No; these military died and were maimed for life to protect and enrich private corporate profit.

That is simply the bottom line here.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ARMING KURDISH FANATICS, TERRORISTS; U.S. AND RUSSIA FLOAT KURDISH AUTONOMY IN SYRIA

While Trump’s Syria plan has been incredibly vague up until this point, we are now seeing the position of the Trump administration coming into view. While, at this point, it might not be as bad as what was called for under Obama and Clinton, the new approach to Syria is concerning to say the least.

This is because mainstream news reports have revealed that the Trump administration is going ahead with a plan to arm Kurdish militants in Syria who are battling the Islamic State. Of course, these Kurdish fanatics are interesting in only one thing – independence and the creation of their own Kurdish state that eventually crosses the border of Syria, Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. They are not interested so much in fighting terror since they have allied themselves with terrorists to achieve their own goals.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am having a palm to forehead moment here, at velocity.

Are we looking at more "fake news" here, to attempt to sell US citizenry on the narrative that the US needs to be more thoroughly involved in a military solution to the many problems in the Middle East, rather than viable political solutions?!?

And I would politely like to remind President Trump, that doing the same thing, in precisely the same way, over and over, yet expecting a different outcome, is one of the most classical definitions of insanity.

IF in fact these reports are true, it appears that both the Russian and US governments are hell-bent in balkanizing the Middle East, and bending it to their liking, and have made the decision that an independent Kurdistan will horrifically weaken the political ambitions of Syria; Turkey; Iran; and Iraq.

But what will be the cost in blood and money to make such a military adventure a "success"?!? And how long are the US and Russia committed to pursuing this dangerous game of regime change?!?

Were I a bookie in Vegas, I really would not bet against the resurrection of the draft in this United States right now, possibly coming at the end of President Trump's first year in office.

He posted in a separate Tweet that he is meeting with Obama on February 8. The author, based on his twitter feed, is very anti-Trump, pro-refugee, and pro-Obama. He claims to have been threatened as a result of his pro-refugee story, but one of his recent tweets was a GIF celebrating the assault of white nationalist Richard Spencer, with the caption 'Make Nazis Afraid Again.' Statement Regarding Recent Executive Order Concerning Extreme Vetting

To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting.

by Donald J Trump

“America is a proud nation of immigrants and we will continue to show compassion to those fleeing oppression, but we will do so while protecting our own citizens and border. America has always been the land of the free and home of the brave.

We will keep it free and keep it safe, as the media knows, but refuses to say. My policy is similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from Iraq for six months. What? So there was a Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 two years before Trump? There was a kind of "Muslim ban" before the Muslim ban? But almost no one critiqued it in 2015 because it was Obama's administration overseeing it.

So for more than a year it has been US policy to discriminate against, target and even begin to ban people from the seven countries that Trump is accused of banning immigrants and visitors from. CNN even hinted at this by noting "those countries were named in a 2016 law concerning immigration visas as 'countries of concern.'" But why didn't CNN note that the seven countries were not named and that in fact they are only on the list because of Obama's policy?

Dahr Jamail | James Mattis Is a War Criminal: I Experienced His Attack on Fallujah Firsthand

In November 2005 US marines in Iraq committed a massacre of 24 unarmed Iraqi civilians. The slaughtering of unarmed men, women, children and elderly people, shot multiple times at close range, was retribution for a roadside bomb attack on a convoy of marines. The war crimes were extremely well documented and the atrocity garnered international attention.

Mattis went on to dismiss all of the charges leveled against the marines who had been accused of killing the civilians and of the eight originally charged, only one still faces possible prosecution, but one can guess how that will end up.
Mattis was the head of Camp Pendleton's 1st Marine Division in Iraq and played a lead role during both of the US sieges of Fallujah in 2004.
While reporting from inside Fallujah during that siege, I personally witnessed women, children, elderly people and ambulances being targeted by US snipers under Mattis' command. Needless to say, all of these are war crimes.

2016: The Year of Russia’s Triumph – The Saker

2016 has been a fantastic year for Russia. Putin’s policy of slow, low-key and deliberate move and counter-move has proven to be extremely effective.

Just like European maps place Europe in the center of the planet, so do most western commentators look at the past year from a US/Europe-centered perspective. Which is fair enough. Furthermore, the AngloZionist Empire has just suffered two major disasters, the Brexit and the election of Trump.

The credit for the election of Donald Trump goes first and foremost to the American people to whom I sincerely believe the entire planet owe a heartfelt and loud “THANK YOU!!!!!”.

Not only did the British people defy the Empire and vote for a Brexit, but now the Imperial Homeland has “backstabbed” them by electing a patriot who is not interested in maintaining the global empire (or so he says, at least for the time being).

Putin’s Bear to Obama’s Turkey

Putin's stoic statesmanship speaks for itself.

Not for the first time, the contrast in character between Putin and Obama was illustrated in the latest diplomatic spat over alleged Russian hacking.

For one thing, Putin’s gracious magnanimity always in the face of American provocations shows the Russian leader to be a fine statesman and human being; whereas Obama looks like a pathetic, cheap nonentity.

President Putin made a surprise attack:

He said that his government would not take retaliatory measures. Indeed, he went further by offering seasonal goodwill greetings to President Obama, his family and the people of America, as well as repeating invitations to the children of accredited US diplomats in Russia to festivities being held at the Kremlin.

What is Henry Kissinger Up To? — Paul Craig Roberts

Until Trump relegates 'the neocons' to the ideological backwaters, Russia and China had best hold on to their strategic alliance.

Kissinger, an old cold warrior, is working to use Trump’s commitment to better relations with Russia in order to separate Russia from its strategic alliance with China.

China’s military buildup is a response to US provocations against China and US claims to the South China Sea as an area of US national interests. China does not intend to attack the US and certainly not Russia.

Back to the Future: From the USSR to the Eurasian Century

Get ready, because the thick of the action starts now.

The 2008 casino capitalism-provoked financial crisis, plus the American “resolve” to remake the so-called Greater Middle East through wars of choice, regime change and covert ops miserably failed.

As we wait for the dawn of the Trump era – an almost intergalactic geopolitical question mark – what’s certain is that the War Party US deep state won’t admit defeat. And the key geopolitical riddle to be answered is how strident internal American tensions will deal with the hub of progressive Eurasia integration: Russia, China and Iran.

ACLU & CAIR Use Cville Spokesman to Claim War on Iraq Was for Bill of Rights

Are you old enough to remember when liberal groups openly admitted that the war on Iraq was illegal and fraudulent, based on oil and profit and sadism?

Well, can you recall when the proponents of the war claimed it was a defense against nonexistent ties to terrorists and nonexistent weapons?

Even if you've wiped those memories, let me assure you, NOBODY ever claimed that attacking and destroying Iraq was necessary to protect civil liberties in the United States (which have been seriously eroded during the course of the war).

Yet, in recent months the generic defense of murdering large numbers of people far away has taken over as the explanation for the war on Iraq.

The ACLU on Friday used the voice of my fellow Charlottesvillian Khizr Khan to claim that attacking Iraq was done "in defense of our country's ideals."

BREAKING: OBAMA MAKES DEAL WITH SAUDI ARABIA TO ALLOW THEIR ISIS SOLDIERS TO RETREAT TO SAFETY

In September 2014, the then Director of the US National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), Matthew Olsen, said Islamic State controlled an area similar in size to the United Kingdom, or about 210,000 square kilometers (81,000 sq. miles).

A year later, the U.S Department of Defense (DoD) declared that IS frontlines in much of northern and central Iraq and northern Syria had been pushed back significantly by U.S led air strikes and ground operations. The DoD estimated that IS had lost approximately 30-37% of what it controlled in August 2014, and 5-10% in Syria.

Even at that point, critics accused America of not telling the truth about their attacks on IS. Some suggested that Obama might be deliberately hindering the efforts because of his relationship with the terror organization.

Turkey builds 89 new military outposts on Syria, Iraq border

Turkey has built 89 new military outposts on its Syria and Iraq borders as part of efforts to strengthen the country's border security.

According to security sources, Turkey already completed the construction of a 287-kilometer (178-mile) concrete wall along the border with Syria. The wall will maintain security across the Turkish border. Construction efforts of the remaining 538 kilometers of the concrete wall are ongoing.

Turkey shares a 900-kilometer border with Syria, which has been embroiled in a civil war since 2011, and so far 66 new military outposts on the Turkey-Syria border have been constructed.

FLASHBACK - THE LIE OF THE (LAST) CENTURY

Then there was the claim about the "Mobile biological weapons laboratories". Proffered in the absence of any real laboratories in the wake of the invasion, photos of these trailers were shown on all the US Mainstream Media, with the claim they while seeming to lack anything suggesting biological processing, these were part of a much larger assembly of multiple trailers that churned out biological weapons of mass destruction.

The chief proponent of this hoax was Colin Powell, who presented illustrations such as this one to the United Nations on February 5th, 2003.

This claim fell apart when it was revealed that these trailers were nothing more than hydrogen gas generators used to inflate weather balloons. This fact was already known to both the US and UK, as a British company manufactured the units and sold them to Iraq.

NYT, WAPO FAKE NEWS STILL BRINGING REAL GUNS TO IRAQ, KILLING THOUSANDS

Fake news propagated by the US government and collaborating organizations such as the New York Times and Washington Post helped create an environment in which the US was able to illegally invade Iraq in 2003, killing at least one million and possibly upwards of two million people, including the deaths of some 4,500 US soldiers, according to a meta-study by Nobel-winning Physicians for Social Responsibility.

Just this November, nearly 6,000 people were killed in Iraq thanks to the conflicts that are still raging due to the invasion (which is ongoing), and it was not an atypical month – even more were killed in October.

Regarding the fake news that laid the groundwork for the US war of aggression, award-winning journalist Robert Parry notes that, for example, Judith Miller of NYT and Washington Post editorial page editor Fred Hiatt “repeatedly stated the ‘fact’ of Iraq’s hidden WMD as flat fact and mocked anyone who doubted the ‘group think.'”

UN Agrees to Stop Reporting Iraqi Casualties After Military Complains

Following complaints from the Iraqi government, the United Nations has agreed to stop recording casualty figures for the ISIS war in Iraq, meaning that November’s report of 1,959 deaths among Iraqi security forces will be the last deaths you’ll be hearing about from them.

Iraqi Army officials claimed the figure was an “exaggeration,” though they’ve offered no death tolls of their own for the fighting. They further accused the UN report of hurting morale by making the death toll known.

Sec Def: US Must Stay in Iraq After ISIS War

For a war which President Obama promised would involve “no boots on the ground,” the ISIS war in Iraq has involved a substantial deployment of ground troops, some 6,000 by most reckonings. Even as officials present ISIS as nearly defeated in Iraq, the US military presence looks to be more or less permanent.

That was the message from Defense Secretary Ash Carter, who insisted that ISIS was heading for “lasting defeat,” but that the US and the rest of its coalition need to keep their troops engaged militarily in Iraq even after this, presenting this as a “sustained” operation.

Carter’s talk of an “enduring presence” in Iraq appears to be in keeping with a lot of officials in the Obama Administration, though with just a month left in office the decision on US troop levels “post-ISIS” will be left to President-elect Donald Trump.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Pentagon Again Under-Reports Civilians Killed in Iraq, Syria Airstrikes

The latest in the occasional Pentagon statements on civilian deaths in the air war in Iraq and Syria has claimed 54 civilians slain between March 31 and October 22, continuing the trend of official figures being massively lower than those reported in the media.

This puts the official death toll at 173 civilians for the entire air war, which is far short of estimates from most groups, which put the death toll far higher over the course of the conflict. Amnesty International put the figure at around 300, and others have suggested it was in excess of 500. The Pentagon often declines to investigate reports of civilian deaths, arguing that they are “not credible.”

Even when they do finally manage to get the killings into their reports, the tolls are often dramatically lower than the evidence suggests. A July 18 airstrike north of the Syrian city of Manbij, for instance, was finally included in the report this time around, with “up to 24” killed.

UN: Iraq Troop Deaths Soar With Mosul Invasion

Between Iraq’s military, militias, and the Kurdish Peshmerga, some 50,000 troops invaded the area around Mosul. The Peshmerga is reporting that they lost a large chunk of fighters by themselves, with 1,600 killed and some 10,000 wounded since late October.

That of course is only a fraction of the overall death toll for the month of November, as some 2,227 ISIS fighters were also killed. Among civilians, the UN only counted 926 killed, but the figure is actually several hundred higher, with the UN continuing to exclude deaths in Anbar from their official figure.

All told, that puts the death toll at 5,719 for Iraq in November, which is roughly in line with October. the November figures show a six-fold increase in Iraqi troop deaths, with ISIS casualties on the decline.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These horrific numbers are the "legacy" of President Bush's war and occupation of Iraq.

I have to believe that there is a special place in hell for people who lie to get their countries involved in pre-emptive wars of conquest.

Trump Ponders Petraeus for Senior Job

The news that President-elect Donald Trump called in disgraced retired Gen. David Petraeus for a job interview as possible Secretary of State tests whether Trump’s experience in hosting “The Celebrity Apprentice” honed his skills for spotting an incompetent phony or not.

Does Trump need more data than the continuing bedlam in Iraq and Afghanistan to understand that one can earn a Princeton PhD by writing erudite-sounding drivel about “counterinsurgency” and still flunk war?

In 2007, Adm. William Fallon, commander of CENTCOM with four decades of active-duty experience behind him, quickly took the measure of Petraeus, who was one of his subordinates while implementing a “surge” of over 30,000 U.S. troops into Iraq.

The Hidden Communist History of the Neo-Conservatives (“Neo Cons”)

Neo-conservatism fully began to rear its ugly head in the 1990’s when they thoroughly infiltrated the once patriotic and pro-America Republican party.

It is therefore incumbent upon each and every single patriotic American who cares about the future of their country (especially federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutor offices) to immediately begin to identify, isolate, marginalize, investigate, indict, arrest, prosecute, and incarcerate all Neo-Conservatives as an internal and national security threat to the welfare of the United States of America.

The Lie of the 21st Century: How Mainstream Media “Fake News” Led to the U.S. Invasion of Iraq

Just to be clear, there are a number of websites that do spread misinformation including those in the alternative media, but it is fair to say that they never have caused the deaths of millions of people like The New York Times when it comes to U.S. foreign policy. A recent example is the U.S. led war against Iraq in 2003. After the September 11th attacks, the George W. Bush administration made a false accusation that the Iraq government had Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) which led to a U.S. invasion eventually toppling Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. The U.S. led war turned out to be a calculated plan by The Project for the New American Century (PNAC), a neo-conservative think-tank who wrote the secretive blueprint called ‘Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategies, Forces And Resources For A New Century’ to remove Saddam Hussein and the Ba’ath party from power. The blueprint was originally written for the neocon lunatics who served under then-President George W.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, the New York Times, aided and abetted by Judith Miller, became the Bush Administration's "Ministry of Propaganda" to "sell" the Iraq war to the American people on a package of lies and disinformation.

And they have the nerve, and effrontery, to label the entire independent media as purveyors of "fake news"?!?!

How bloody dare they, after laying the propaganda groundwork for a war in which over 4,000 Americans, and over half a million Iraqis have died, accuse the independent media of lying, and/or colluding with the Russians?!?

Folks, this is collective desperation on the cusp of madness; they cannot "sell" their poison anymore to a war-weary, and war-skeptical American public, so they are attempting to suppress those voices in the alternative media who ARE telling the truth, the best they can.

And I consider WRH to be in great company with those other sites listed in the WaPo article about alleged "fake news", because I know that the people who run them are people of moral integrity, and clarity.

And thank you, WaPo, for your bellicose, hubristic screed against the truth tellers; it means we are making a difference in the way people and getting their news, and responding to it, and that is the best possible news all of us could be receiving at this critical transition point for this country!!

Car bomb kills over 80 people south of Iraqi capital

A car bomb has reportedly exploded south of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, killing more than 80 people, among them Shia pilgrims.

According to security sources, a truck loaded with explosives went off on Thursday at a gas station in the Shomali village in the suburbs of the city of al-Hilla, located 120 kilometers (75 miles) southeast of the capital Baghdad and around 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Karbala.

Reports say there have been several Iranian nationals among the victims.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is pretty horrific, and just seems to never end, now, in Iraq.

Such incidents rarely happened under Saddam Hussein's watch.

FLASHBACK 3/14/2003: Dixie Chicks pulled from air after bashing Bush

CNN- DALLAS, Texas (Reuters) -- There are a lot worse things in country music than your wife leaving you or your dog dying. There's stations not playing your music because you done gone and said some things against the president.

Music superstars the Dixie Chicks are finding out that criticizing President Bush's plans for war in Iraq can cost you air play, big time.

Country stations across the United States have pulled the Chicks from playlists following reports that lead singer Natalie Maines said in a concert in London earlier this week that she was "ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

Fall and Rise of the Forgotten ‘Deplorables’

We’re in for a few surprises, for better or worse...

As might be anticipated, in the wake of Trump’s historic victory — a win that for all sorts of reasons has shaken the Beltway establishment and beyond to its core, and one that political junkies will be fixating on for years — there’s been much handwringing about how so many folks got the outcome so wrong. All of this has been accompanied by the obligatory hyperventilating and existential angst about what Trump’s election portends for the future.

Tensions Mount in Northern Iraq, PM Insists Kurds Must Give Seized Territory Back

Since early in the ISIS war, there has been a suspicion that its resolution within Iraq is just going to lead into yet another war, this time between the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The tensions between those sides are already rising even as the fighting over ISIS’ largest city rages.

Iraq has never been entirely comfortable with autonomous, oil-rich Kurdistan, and the KRG leadership has made public their secessionist ambitions, with their leaders saying that outright independence will be discussed as soon as the ISIS fight is over. Yet the biggest source of tension right now is territory.

On paper, KRG territory consists of an area in northern and northeastern Iraq. Yet during the ISIS war, when Iraqi troops were in full retreat, the Kurdish Peshmerga entered the oil rich city of Kirkuk, and declared it part of KRG territory.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Was this, one has to wonder, the "quid pro quo" of the American government for the Peshmerga's help in fighting ISIS; that in return, they could seize Iraqi territory, and the US government would turn a blind eye to this?!?

It appears that the balkanization of Iraq may well have begun, with this Kurdish move.

As long as the US government controls to whom the oil is sold, and in what denomination, the Kurds most probably have nothing to fear.

UK’s Iraq War Probe Designed To ‘Avoid Blame,’ Whitehall Memos Reveal – Report

The injury into UK’s involvement in the 2003 invasion of Iraq was designed by the government to avoid allocating blame to individuals and departments, memos obtained under the Freedom of Information Act have reportedly revealed.

The papers were made public thanks to Chris Lamb, an FOI campaigner from Bristol, who had won a two-year court battle for the right to access classified memos by government officials relating to the creation of the Chilcot Inquiry. The memos were penned in the four-week period in May and June 2009, the Observer reported.

Former US Intelligence Chief Admits Obama Took “Willful Decision” to Support ISIS Rise

If one was only to read mainstream news in the West, you would probably be inculcated with the myth that Islamic State (ISIS) appeared almost out of thin air and many governments in the Western world have been completely shocked by the rise of this terror group. Perhaps you would correctly blame the 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq as a major reason why such extreme groups gained power in the region, in addition to blaming certain governments for supposedly marginalizing Sunni’s.

But what most mainstream readers will be miserably ignorant of is the fact that one of the main opposition groups fighting the Bashar al-Assad government in Syria has been ISIS itself, a group that has been trained, funded, aided and armed by NATO countries in collusion with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Israel (to name a few). This reality has been completely omitted in numerous corporate media publications, once again demonstrating the inept and deceptive nature of mainstream news.

Trump & Woolsey: Was There a Bait-and-Switch?

The day after Trump’s election, Woolsey was interviewed by the CBC and asked about U.S. national security priorities. Woolsey responded that it was necessary “to get straight who our friends and adversaries are.” He asserted that “Israel is our friend,” while he called Iran “the world’s leading terrorist state” and insisted that the nuclear agreement with Iran “is so bad it needs to go.” Tehran reached a deal with world powers (including the U.S.) on its nuclear program in July 2015. The Israel lobby has reportedly been trying to undermine the agreement ever since by linking Iran with ISIS terrorism.

Woolsey also called Russia and North Korea “problem states,” and when asked if a new relationship with Russia could be possible under Trump as president, he answered that it “has to be based on Russian performances, not Russian promises,” adding that “Russia’s got to stop conquering its neighbours, like Ukraine.”

Russian diplomat says humanitarian crisis in Mosul is deteriorating

"People are trying to escape not only form the atrocities committed by the IS members but also from the bombardments by the US-led coalition. Reports on civilianas killed by coalition airstrikes are coming with alarming regularity. There is no sense in denying or hiding these facts. However, our Western, namely American counterparts have been turning a blind eye to the consequences of such actions that could sour the atmosphere in the information field they have been scrupulously creating lately, focusing mainly on Aleppo." Zakharova pointed out that the situation remained extremely tense in the Mosul area.

16 US servicemen killed, 27 injured in fighting for Iraq’s Mosul — source

"Over the first two weeks of the ground military operation in Mosul, 16 US servicemen were killed and another 27 were injured. Most instances of death and injuries of servicemen represent the result of hitting a landmine, or coming under artillery or mortar shellings," the source said. There were also cases when servicemen died as a result of weak coordination of actions between aviation and special forces units. "For instance, two special forces members died in the airstrike delivered at Mosul’s outskirts by B-52H US aircraft," the source noted. He stressed that over the two weeks since the start of the military operation, the US-led coalition failed to achieve any considerable success in Mosul. "Liberation of Mosul is considered by outgoing Democrats in the White House as a trump card in pre-election political games, where the victory of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is at stake.

Kurds decide to get on US nerves

Falah Bakir, Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government (in Iraq) Department of Foreign Relations, reported, that he had asked for military and humanitarian aid while meeting with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. 'We asked for humanitarian aid to render support to refugees, that came to the Iraqi Kurdistan from other regions of the country, as well as from Syria,' Bakir said. The situation in the Kurdish area of Iraq has reached its critical point. Have they addressed someone else, or just Russia?.. The Iraqi Kurds had great relations with the Soviet Union, at the time Primakov headed the Kurdish direction. Masud Barzani (President of the Kurdish autonomy in Iraq)studied in the USSR. Thus, there are some ties. But any deliveries to the Iraqi Kurdistan require agreement with the central Iraqi government in Baghdad. For the moment it's not quite clear what the Kurds are asking for. It should be noted that there are several US military facilities in Kurdistan.
