Israel's attack on the USS Liberty - The full story

Israel insisted (as it still does) that its attack on the Liberty was an unfortunate "accident", a case of "mistaken identity".

The attack ought to have been a sensational, headline-grabbing news story, but beyond the fact that an accident had happened and that Israel had apologised, it did not get reported by America's news organisations. It was too hot an issue for them to handle and pursue. If it had been an Arab attack on an American vessel it would have been an entirely different matter, of course. In that event there would have been saturation coverage with demands for retaliation, with Zionist and other pro-Israeli columnists and commentators setting the pace and tone.

Jun 08 09:10

THE DAY ISRAEL DELIBERATELY KILLED THIRTY FOUR AMERICAN SAILORS.

The attack on the USS Liberty by Israeli forces on the forth day of the Arab-Israeli Six Day War is not widely known because the facts are politically and diplomatically awkward. The truth about the attack includes evidence that this was a planned, carefully coordinated and deliberate attack by a friendly power upon a known American naval vessel, and a botched exercise of Command, Control and Communications. But such knowledge is politically unwelcome in the United States, so the facts about the attack were withheld from the American people.

Cover-Up Alleged in Probe of USS Liberty

A former Navy attorney who helped lead the military investigation of the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty that killed 34 American servicemen says former President Lyndon Johnson and his defense secretary, Robert McNamara, ordered that the inquiry conclude the incident was an accident.

In a signed affidavit released at a Capitol Hill news conference, retired Capt. Ward Boston said Johnson and McNamara told those heading the Navy's inquiry to "conclude that the attack was a case of 'mistaken identity' despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary."

It was “one of the classic all-American cover-ups,” said retired Admiral Thomas Moorer, a former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman who spent a year investigating the attack as part of an independent panel he formed with other former military officials. The panel also included a former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia, James Akins.

FLASHBACK - Anthony Bourdain laments ‘twisted and shallow’ depiction of Palestinians in US media

This is inspiring. Last Sunday the Muslim Public Affairs Council gave a “voices of courage and conscience” in media award to CNN’s traveling chef Anthony Bourdain for the great show he did on food in Palestine last year for his series, “Parts Unknown.”

The Institute for Middle East Understanding posted the video above of Bourdain accepting the award and thanking the Muslim Public Affairs Council “from the bottom of my heart.”

Israel ends drill for full-scale war on Gaza: Paper

Israeli air and ground forces have finished a week-long exercise to prepare for a full-scale war on the besieged Gaza Strip.

The maneuvers, which were carried out “in preparation for war in the North and South,” ended on Thursday, enlisting hundreds of warplanes and gunships, the Jerusalem Post said.

The drills, the daily wrote, included actual airstrikes of large numbers of targets across the coastal territory.

“My squadron today returned from a mission in Gaza. We have successfully met all these challenges and we are ready for any threat,” it quoted the commander of the 105th Squadron as saying.

“We met all the objectives we set for ourselves, in full coordination with the Southern Command and with the air force’s coordination and control organizations,” he added.

Israeli aircraft, meanwhile, dropped leaflets in Gaza, which warned Palestinians of an imminent war, saying they had to refuse to protest near the fence separating the enclave from the occupied territories.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Netanyahu will be looking for a time to do this, when both Russia and US leadership is otherwise occupied; he may well feel that next week will be perfect timing, as President Trump will be meeting with North Korea's Kim Jung Un on Tuesday, 12 June in Singapore, and President Putin will be on hand for the opening ceremonies of the FIFA world cup, which starts Thursday, June 14th in Moscow, and runs until July 15, with the World Cup Champion team acclaimed at that time.

These venues will include Moscow; St. Petersburg; Kazan; Sochi; Nizhny Kovgorodn; Kaliningrad; Volgograd; Rostov on Don; Ekaterinburg; Samara; and Saransk; that is a lot of security to create, to keep things under control, and a lot of opportunities for mischief-making by highly emotional fans, who are very highly factionalized about the teams they care about, occasionally, nearly coming to blows with fans of other teams.

But Netanyahu is going need to do this quickly, if he is going to do it; first, he cannot keep his military at a high state of alert, without using them, because "readiness fatigue" will quickly set in, and secondly, international public outcry is going to be horrific, should he go ahead with such a war against Gaza, but once Gaza is burned to the ground, he figures the outcry will stop, and "business as usual" will return for Israel.

On that last one, however, he is dead wrong.

Iran Reportedly Calls Israeli Nuke Capabilities "Threat" to World

Reza Najafi, Tehran's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, told the IAEA Board of Governors that Israel's nuclear program poses a threat to peace and security in the region, according to PressTV.

According to Reza Najafi, Israel's nuclear program should be put on the IAEA's agenda as a real threat.

He added that the control over it should continue until Israel joins the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Najafi criticized the West's double standards concerning nuclear programs.

Tel Aviv has rejected requests to join the NPT and refused to allow international inspectors to enter the country.

Argentinian soccer team boycotts Israel — and ‘NY Times’ whitewash fails to quote a single player

The Times has a correspondent in Buenos Aires, Daniel Politi, and here’s what he did in today’s sports pages; he did not quote Higuaín or any other player for Argentina. Instead, he spent 22 paragraphs partly peddling an alternate conspiracy theory: that Argentina canceled not for political reasons, but because the team feared “violence” from Palestinians.

Is Putin Really Ditching Iran and Siding With Netanyahu in Syria?

The undeniable truth is that Putin foiled the initial Israel plan for Syria.

In fact, Hezbollah and Iran had already intervened in Syria and were desperately “plugging holes” in a collapsing Syrian front. So, if anything, Putin has to be the one to be credited for forcing the Israelis to give up on their “plan A” and go to plan “B” which I described here and which can be summarized as follows:

Israel seals Palestinian family’s home with them inside

A Palestinian family was trapped inside their home and forced to leave through a broken window after Israeli occupation forces welded their front door shut in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron this morning.

The incident took place on Al-Shuhada Street in the Old City of Hebron, one of the most heavily militarised streets in the occupied West Bank.

Samer Yusri Zahida told Ma’an that Israeli occupation forces broke into his brother’s house at 8am and forced him and his three other family members into one room.

After detaining the family for a brief period of time, occupation forces broke one of the windows in the house and exited through it, allegedly telling the family that if they want to leave the house they must also exit through the window. Israeli forces then sealed the front door shut.

Iran makes hard turn East as fate of nuclear deal dimsOn Friday: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani heads to China for an economic and security summit in the city of Qingdao.

As the fate of the 2015 nuclear deal hangs in a balance, and with Europe wavering in doing business with Iran due to the return of US sanctions, Tehran is making a hard turn East to boost its economy, and counter mounting pressure from Western powers.

On Friday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani heads to China for an economic and security summit in the coastal city of Qingdao, where he is expected to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on bilateral relations, and the future of the nuclear deal.

Amid rising anti-Iran sentiments from the West, analysts said, the meeting between Rouhani and Xi presents an opportunity for Tehran to further cement its economic and political ties with Beijing, and for China to reinforce its growing geopolitical influence in the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OF COURSE, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is looking to deepen his relationship with China, for both trade and defense, because that is precisely into whose arms the US and Israeli governments have pushed him, and his country!!

One did not have to be a rocket scientist to see this coming from miles away.

Israel taunts Iran with Mean Girls gif after supreme leader calls country a 'malignant cancerous tumour'

Israel trolled Iran’s supreme leader with a Mean Girls gif after he threatened to “eradicate” the country.

The Israeli embassy in the US poked fun at Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in response to a series of bombastic tweets in which he described the fellow Middle Eastern nation as a “malignant cancerous tumour”.

The supreme leader tweeted that Israel “has to be removed and eradicated: it is possible and it will happen”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Understanding that the Israeli propaganda machine is at full tilt boogie mode right now, ahead of the coming Israeli/US/Iran war, I have to seriously question if the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei actually said what he is accused of saying.

And in fact, courtesy of sputniknews.com, I can tell you what Khamenei actually said:

The president of Iran reportedly declared that the Israeli government won’t be able to feel safe while it continues to maintain its hold on Jerusalem.

As people in Iran and several other countries took part in the Quds Day rallies, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani declared that Israeli leadership can no longer feel safe, according to Press TV.

"The occupying and aggressive Israeli regime can never feel that it is in a safe place," Rouhani said.

Iran Calls Israel's Nuclear Capabilities a Global "Threat," Urges IAEA to Put Tel Aviv on Notice
Rouhani also spoke against "US unilateralism", declaring that he intends to discuss this matter during the upcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and branded the United States’ withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal "illegal."

"That the United States is quitting an international treaty unilaterally and without any particular reason is an insult to the nations of the world and a violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231," Rouhani said, adding that "the whole world has to feel that the approach that the US is adopting is a dangerous approach in international relations which undermines international treaties, and countries should not remain silent on this illegal move."

Rouhani’s statements came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel is willing to engage and destroy Syrian forces if the latter decide to attack.

But of course, that means nothing to the propagandists, who live, night and day, to regurgitate this stuff, and make Israel look like the "aggrieved party" in this war of words, which is usually a prelude to a war of bombs and bullets.

Sixty Killed In Gaza And The End Of Israeli Conscience

When will the moment come in which the mass killing of Palestinians matters anything to the right? When will the moment come in which the massacre of civilians shocks at least the left-center? If 60 people slain don't do it, perhaps 600? Will 6,000 jolt them? ... Will Israel find all the excuses and justifications then also? Will the blame be laid on the slain people and their "dispatchers" even then, and not a word of criticism, mea culpa, sorrow, pity or guilt will be heard? ... If 60 stray dogs were shot to death in one day by IDF soldiers, the whole country would raise an outcry ... On the night of the Palestinians' slaughter, Zion rejoiced and was jubilant: We have an embassy and a Eurovision. It's difficult to think of a more atrocious moral eclipse ... The truth is that Israel is well prepared to massacre hundreds and thousands, and to expel tens of thousands.
Note:The count is now many more than 60 (119?)

Sacrificing Gaza: The Great March of Zionist Hypocrisy

The Great March of Return is a startling, powerful expression of Palestinian identity and resistance. Thousands of Palestinians have come out, bravely and unapologetically, to say: “We refuse to remain invisible. We reject any attempt to assign us to the discard pile of history. We will exercise our fundamental right to go home.” They have done this unarmed, in the face of Israel’s use of deadly armed force against targets (children, press, medics) deliberately chosen to demonstrate the Jewish state’s unapologetic determination to force them back into submissive exile by any means necessary. By doing this repeatedly over the last few weeks, these incredibly brave men, women, and children have done more than decades of essays and books to strip the aura of virtue from Zionism that’s befogged Western liberals’ eyes for 70 years.

The Brutality Of the Netanyahu Government Has Been Shameful

In recent weeks, scores of unarmed Palestinian civilians have been killed in Gaza by Israeli forces. Hundreds have been wounded. Most are refugees or the families of refugees from what is now Israel, and they have been demonstrating for their right to return, week after week.

The killing of Razzan Najjar, the 22 year old medical volunteer shot by an Israeli sniper in Gaza on Friday, is the latest tragic reminder of the outrageous and indiscriminate brutality being meted out, under orders from the Netanyahu government.

The Latest Attack on Free Speech in the Israel-Palestine Debate

Members of Congress last month introduced the “Anti-Semitism Awareness Act.” The bill purports to address a real problem: According to the FBI, incidents of hate crimes motivated by anti-Jewish bias have significantly increased in recent years.

But anti-Semitic harassment is already illegal under federal law. The new bill does not change that fact, but its overbreadth makes it likely that it will instead silence criticism of Israel that is protected by the First Amendment.

The proposed legislation, for example, defines speech that applies a “double standard for Israel,” or denies “the Jewish people their right to self-determination,” as evidence of anti-Semitism. It also directs the Department of Education to consider such speech in its investigations, which could result in a loss of federal funding for schools. On Monday, the ACLU sent a letter to Congress opposing the bill.

Netanyahu used ‘leadership of American Jewish community’ to block Obama policy — Ben Rhodes

Ben Rhodes’s book about being President Obama’s trusted aide is out: “The World as It Is: A Memoir of the Obama White House.” And it’s got some juice on Israel and the lobby.

Yesterday on Fresh Air Rhodes said that “certain advisers” made Obama water down “A New Beginning,” his famous speech to the Muslim world in Cairo in 2009– when it came to the settlements.

Obama wanted to talk in pretty stark and honest terms about the fact that, you know, this is an intolerable situation. And he wanted to use language

that American presidents didn’t always use, like calling the Israeli occupation an occupation. And, you know, that made certain advisers nervous, and we ended up, you know, kind of watering down language in different parts and how we talk about Israeli settlements.

Israeli police arrest Ramadan wakers in Jerusalem

The Palestinian men who chant and beat drums to wake up the faithful during Ramadan in Jerusalem’s Old City say they are being unfairly targeted by Israeli police over their early-morning tradition. Israel agents trained India commandos leading Sikh temple raid

Commandos who conducted one of India’s most controversial military raids against a militant Sikh group were trained by Israeli Mossad agents, an Indian paper has reported.

Writing for India Today to mark the raid on one of the most sacred sites in the Sikh tradition, Prabhash K Dutta claims that the attack known as “Operation Blue Star” was conducted by Indian commandos trained by Israeli agents when India refused to have any diplomatic ties with Israel.

The commandos who entered the Golden Temple on 6 June 1984, Dutta says, were part of Special Group of the 56th Commando Company of the Indian Army. They were the only unit of the Indian forces to have received specialised training. The Special Group or SG commandos, as they were called in those days, had been trained by an expert team of the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence organisation.

We know her name: Razan al-Najjar. But what’s his? What’s the name of the soldier who killed her, with direct fire to the chest last Friday? We don’t know, and we probably won’t ever know.

In contrast to the Palestinians suspected of killing Israelis, the Israeli who killed Najjar is protected from exposure to the cameras and an in-depth breakdown of his family history, including his relatives’ participation in routine attacks on Palestinians as part of their military service or their political affiliation.

SYRIA NOT ‘IMMUNE’, ISRAEL WILL DESTROY ASSAD’S FORCES IF ATTACKED, SAYS NETANYAHU

Israel will “destroy” any Syrian forces that attempt an attack against Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned. He also cautioned President Assad against inviting Iranian troops into Syria.

“Now the war is nearly over he invites Iran in? He is no longer immune. If he fires, we'll destroy his forces,” Netanyahu said in London on Thursday.

In May, Israel launched several missiles at what it claimed were Iranian military targets inside Syria. Tel Aviv is believed to be responsible for numerous airstrikes on Syrian territory, but the Israeli military rarely comments on such cases.

Last month Netanyahu warned that Israel considers all Iranian forces inside Syria – not just troops near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights – as targets.

“We will continue to act against [Iran’s] intention to establish a military presence in Syria opposite us, not just opposite the Golan Heights but anywhere in Syria,” he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks as though Netanyahu is getting ready to create a false flag operation, to be blamed against both Syria, and Iran, as the "justification" for an attack against both countries, with the US military steppng in closely thereafter/

But I think, if this is what he is planning, he and his cabinet need think, to very seriously, about just what Russia will do, if he does this.

Russia's military prowess has already been very much proven in the Syrian theatre of war, and has historically sworn to defend Iran, should it get attacked militarily.

The “International Criminal Court”: Prosecuting Gaddafi With Questionable Evidence While Ignoring NATO-Israeli Atrocities

Following on from this I emailed the ICC once again:

Many thanks – it would seem that the evidence is flimsy and circumstantial at best (that is, the evidence that hasn’t been redacted) – most of the key claims (use of snipers against civilians etc) appear to be completely lacking sources. Will a version of this be released for public consumption without the redactions?

Can you respond to my second point with regards to prosecuting NATO forces for civilian deaths/attacks on hospitals and civilian infrastructure and the repeated use of depleted uranium? ISRAELI SNIPERS USE ILLEGAL BUTTERFLY BULLETS ON UNARMED PALESTINIANS

A report last week from Doctors Without Borders/MSF physicians & medics who are treating the injured at the Great Return March in Gaza said, “Half of the more than 500 patients we have admitted in our clinics have injuries where the bullet has literally destroyed tissue after having pulverized the bone.” Doctors say they have seen no bullet injuries comparable since the seven-week Israeli bombing & artillery siege of Gaza in 2014. The reason for the severity of injuries is that Israeli snipers are using internationally banned butterfly bullets. But Israel knows its chances of being censured or prosecuted by the International Criminal Court are almost nil or will be after the fact.

MONTH OF PRIDE FOR BDS

Argentina‘s national football team has cancelled an upcoming friendly match with Israel, Argentine news sources reported.

Argentinian sports website Minutouno reported on Tuesday that Saturday’s game in Jerusalem had been “suspended” amid an “escalation of violence, threats and criticism” directed at captain ‘Leo’ Messi.

Argentina, a major contender to win the World Cupthis summer, has made four previous pre-World Cup visits to Israel since 1986.

The fixture between the two teams was set to be played in Jerusalem’s Teddy Stadium on June 9, which is built on land that was once a Palestinian village that was destroyed in 1948.

Israeli media reported that in light of this latest development, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will speak to his Argentinian counterpart Mauricio Macri by telephone.

The ambassador of Palestine in Argentina, Husni Abdel Wahed, had expressed his opposition to the friendly.

US Ambassador Slams US, Israeli Media for Gaza Coverage

Massive death tolls from months of Israeli crackdowns in the Gaza Strip have been sparsely covered by the media, particularly in the US. But even where US media outlets have found fault with the killings, US Ambassador David Friedman is expressing anger, saying it’s “not reporting” to cover the killings critically.

All Gazan Casualties Are Intentional, Not Accidental

On June 1, Israeli snipers murdered 21-year-old voluntary Palestinian paramedic Razan al-Najjar in cold blood – threatening no one, shot in the neck and back, an exploding dum dum bullet destroying her heart, killing her instantly.

Clearly identified as a first-responder medic in the field by her white attire, she was treating wounded Gazans well inside Israel’s repressive border fence when lethally shot – a willful act of murder, nothing accidental about it.

Joint (Arab) List MK Ahmad Tibi called her killing “a heinous war crime.” Neocon extremist US UN envoy Nikki Haley disgracefully blamed Gazans for Israeli high crimes committed against them.

Since Great March of Return protests began on March 30, Israeli snipers killed two Gazan paramedics, wounding 223 others, 29 shot with live fire – individuals clearly identified as medical personnel by their attire.

Palestinian activist threatened with death for exposing Israel crimes

A Palestinian activist has received death threats from occupation forces for exposing human rights violations in occupied Hebron.

Aref Jaber, an activist working with Hebron-based organisation Human Rights Defenders, said that occupation forces stopped him outside his home on Saturday and threatened to kill him if he continues to document their treatment of Palestinians in the city, according to Wafa. The incident took place in the area of Hebron known as H2, which is inhabited by approximately 35, 000 Palestinians and 500 illegal Israeli settlers.

Writing on the Human Rights Defenders’ Facebook page, Jaber explained that eight occupation force soldiers arrived at his home on Saturday. Two pointed their rifles directly at him, and a third repeatedly smashed Jaber’s face against a wall, “kicking [his] legs, ankles, and feet as hard as he could”.

Palestinians thank Argentina for cancelling match with Israel

Palestinians have thanked the Argentinian football team and star forward Lionel Messi for cancelling their friendly match with Israel scheduled for Saturday, according to the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI).

Football fans and Palestinian human rights supporters had urged the Argentinian team to cancel the match, set to take place in an Israeli stadium built on the ethnically cleansed Palestinian village of Al-Maliha in response to Israel’s violent response to peaceful protesters on the Gaza border that left over 120 dead.

Initially set to be held in Haifa, the Israeli government moved the match to the Jerusalem village, offering the organisers $760,000 in compensation. Israel was reportedly already paying Argentina $3 million to play the match as part of its celebrations to mark 70 years of its independence, when it forcibly expelled more than 750,000 Palestinians from their homes.

UK rules government can ban public bodies joining BDS

The UK Court of Appeal has overturned a High Court ruling which found the UK government acted improperly by curtailing Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns against Israel’s violations of international law.

The UK Court of Appeal issued its verdict today after the British Government appealed, on 17 May, a previous High Court ruling which declared it had acted improperly by seeking to use pension law to pursue its own foreign and defence policy. The ruling, given in June 2017, found that the government acted unlawfully in curtailing divestment campaigns against Israeli and international firms implicated in Israel’s violations of international law.

ACLU issues new warning about campaign to silence criticism of Israel

On Monday, the ACLU sent a letter to Congress opposing the bill.

According to the ACLU, “the bill is part of a disturbing surge of government-led attempts to suppress the speech of people on only one side of the Israel-Palestine debate.”

“The trend manifests on college campuses, in state contracts, and even in bills to change federal criminal law, but the impact is the same: Those who seek to protest, boycott, or otherwise criticise the Israeli government are being silenced.”

The ACLU added that “these efforts to censor criticism of the Israeli government and advocacy for Palestinian rights do a disservice to the real problem of anti-Semitism in the United States.”

Today it’s the Golan Heights, tomorrow it will be Medina

If the Europeans thought this was as bad as it could get they were mistaken. This week they would have to pretend it’s business as usual and welcome the Israeli prime minister. He is on a charm offensive to convince European leaders why they should also withdraw from the JCPA.

But this is not all, there will be other demands. In recent days, Israeli politicians have been stepping up pressure on the Trump administration to recognise Israel’s “sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

As the saying goes, there is no smoke without fire. The flurry of diplomatic activity in Tehran, Moscow, Tel Aviv, Damascus and Amman all suggest that something is amiss. Although the details still remain secret, the reality is that Israel wants firm guarantees that there will be no Iranian presence in south Syria. So Russia’s Vladimir Putin has provided the assurance that only Syrian troops will be stationed there and more importantly, there will be no Syrian belligerency or irredentism.

Freedom flotilla boat arrives in UK

“Freedom”, one of the vessels of a flotilla traveling from Sweden to Palestine to break an 11-year blockade by Israel on Gaza, arrived in the British port of Brighton yesterday.

The boat was welcomed by a group of activists who blew horns as the boat approached Brighton Marina before making its way to a harbour in Shoreham, where it will remain anchored for the next three days.

Zaher Birawi, chairman of the International Committee for Breaking the Siege of Gaza, said all of the boats of the flotilla left the Dutch capital of Amsterdam a few days ago and are visiting various ports across Europe.

“‘Freedom’ came to Brighton. We are here to salute it,” said Birawi.

Israeli Soldiers Abduct A Member Of Hebron City Council

Israeli soldiers abducted, on Tuesday at dawn, a member of the City Council in Hebron, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, after storming her home and ransacking it.

The City Council member, Suzan Abdul-Karim al-‘Oweiwi, 39, has a Master’s Degree in Institution Building and Development from the Al-Quds University, and is a social activist and volunteer in advocating the right of Palestinian detainees, held by Israel, in addition to the cause of the refugees and the Right or Return.

JCPOA is 'Zero-Sum Game' for Israel, While EU Looking for a 'Formula' - Scholar

Radio Sputnik discussed Benjamin Netanyahu's European tour and current tensions in the Middle East with Dr. Gil Murciano, Middle East expert at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs think tank in Berlin.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's main goal at the upcoming negotiations with European leaders is to present Iran as a threat to regional stability, political analyst Gil Murciano told Radio Sputnik.

"According to Netanyahu, he is going to speak about two topics: the first one is Iran and the second one is Iran. And while it seems that this repetition is made for emphasis, we actually speak about different issues," Murciano said.

"First of all, the future of the JCPOA, the nuclear deal with Iran following the withdrawal of the US. And the second one is the Iranian build-up in Syria and the Israeli-Iranian conflict in Syria," the scholar explained.

Israel Is Helping Saudi Arabia Develop Nuclear Weapons

Israel has been a nuclear power for decades, though its nuclear arsenal is undeclared and the country has refused to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Estimates of its arsenal vary, with most suggesting that Israel possesses from 100 to 200 nuclear weapons. Israel was aided in the development of its nuclear program by Western powers, particularly France. Much of the Western “help” Israel received, however, was the result of covert thefts of nuclear material from countries such as the United States and Belgium.

While Dor-On, speaking to news outlet Arabi21, did not elaborate on the details of the information being exchanged, he stated that the sharing of this information was likely to be just the beginning of Israeli involvement in a future Saudi nuclear weapons program, which would likely see Israel “take the initiative to develop Saudi Arabia’s effort to acquire nuclear weapons” as a result of “the growing Saudi-Israeli relations.”

The Colonization of Palestine: Rethinking the Term ‘Israeli Occupation’

June 5, 2018 marks the 51st anniversary of the Israeli Occupation of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza.

But, unlike the massive popular mobilization that preceded the anniversary of the Nakba – the catastrophic destruction of Palestine in 1948 – on May 15, the anniversary of the Occupation is hardly generating equal mobilization.

The unsurprising death of the ‘peace process’ and the inevitable demise of the ‘two-state solution’ has shifted the focus from ending the Occupation per se, to the larger and more encompassing problem of Israel’s colonialism throughout Palestine.

Israeli Army Claims Slain Gaza Medic Wasn’t Shot Deliberately

While the investigation into the killing of 21-year-old Palestinian nurse Razan Najjar by Israeli troops last week continues, the military has already offered a brief preliminary statement Tuesday, saying that no shots were “deliberately or directly aimed towards her.”

Israeli Minister Urges Assassination of Gaza Fire Kite Flyers

Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan is calling on the Israeli military to start treating the Palestinian fliers of fire kites as terrorists, saying they should be assassinated by Israeli snipers.

As tensions ratcheted up on the Gaza border recently, Gazans have begun flying kites that have flammable materials attached, trying to set fire to farms in the southern part of Israel, where a dry winter has left a lot of places vulnerable.

Israel’\s government has estimated the fires have caused $2.5 million in damage. An Israeli general says he’s recruited civilian drone operators in southern Israel as “reservists” and told them to fly their drones into the kites to try to down them.

Trump's Ambassador To Israel Tells Journalists Who Report Truth About Gaza: ‘Keep Your Mouths Shut’

US Ambassador to Israel Tells Journalists Who Report Truth About Gaza: ‘Keep Your Mouths Shut’

David Friedman insisted that American news coverage is biased against Israel, but media analysts have concluded that the precise opposite is the case.
***
Friedman’s “anti-democratic demand” came during his speech at a media conference in Jerusalem on Monday, in which he complained without evidence that “nine out of ten articles that are written about the Gaza conflict are critical of Israel.”

“Just keep your mouths shut until you figure it out,” Friedman told reporters. “Because otherwise, all you’re doing is creating impressions that have no basis in fact. They fit a narrative. They fit an opinion. They fit an agenda. But it’s not reporting, because it’s not based on hard, factual analysis.”

In new memoir, ex-Obama aide bemoans a manipulative Netanyahu ‘not on the level’

In the book, titled “The World as It Is: A Memoir of the Obama White House,” Rhodes argues that Netanyahu assiduously blocked Obama’s efforts to resolve the conflict. That was in part due to Netanyahu’s continual approval to build settlement projects and his reluctance to embrace Obama’s vision of a two-state outcome.......

After Netanyahu’s Oval Office lecture to Obama in 2011, Rhodes writes that he was then “given a list of leading Jewish donors to call, to reassure them of Obama’s pro-Israel bona fides.”

FALSE FLAG ALERT: Did the Israeli-owned geothermal plant cause Kilauea’s volcanic eruption after triggering an earthquake swarm?

An analysis of earthquakes in the area around the Salton Sea Geothermal Field in southern California has found a strong correlation between seismic activity and operations for production of geothermal power, which involve pumping water into and out of an underground reservoir.

“We show that the earthquake rate in the Salton Sea tracks a combination of the volume of fluid removed from the ground for power generation and the volume of wastewater injected,” said Emily Brodsky, a geophysicist at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and lead author of the study, published online in Science on July 11.

Friedman says media coverage that wasn’t supportive of the deaths was “completely superficial,” and that Israeli military officials had assured him that they had to kill all of those Gazans to defend the nation of Israel.

A US Ambassador to Israel criticizing US media outlets is probably not going to amount to much, but Friedman also slammed Israeli newspaper Haaretz for its own coverage of the deaths, saying Haaretz never explored if there were “other alternatives” besides killing the Gazans.

Webmaster's Commentary:

" Israeli military officials had assured him that they had to kill all of those Gazans to defend the nation of Israel."

Oh, really, Mr. Ambassador?!? Including the Palestinian medic, Razan al-Najjar who was only trying to get people to safety, and get them evacuated?!?

The IDF HAD to kill her, to defend the nation of Israel, right?!?

Sir, with the coverage of this IDF assassination having been very clear, and understanding that this woman was no threat, the optics of what you have said are completely horrific, and disingenuous in the extreme.

This statement you have made has absolutely broken the back of any vision of the US being able to be an "honest broker" in the Israeli/Palestinian hostilities, and will have severe, negative repercussions in the greater Middle East.

But then, in light of the reality that the US has outsourced its Middle Eastern foreign policy to Tel Aviv, this shouldn't really suprise us.

IDF on Murder of Razan al-Najjar: She Was Killed “in Accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.” (True Enough)

Thousands attend the funeral for Razan al-Najjar, the 21-year-old medic shot and killed near the Gaza border with Israel June 1. (Reuters)

Thousands of people gathered in Gaza on Saturday for the funeral of Razan al-Najjar, a 21-year-old Palestinian medic who witnesses say Israeli soldiers shot dead near the border fence on Friday.

Medical workers, dressed in white uniforms, marched in her funeral procession, holding Palestinian flags and photos of her face. Her father walked holding his daughter’s own medical vest, once white, now stained red with her blood.

More than 115 people have been killed since protests began on the border at the end of March, but Najjar is only the second woman to die. The first was a teenage protester.

Photos from the scene immediately after Najjar was shot show a group of men carrying the volunteer in her white uniform, her head tilted back and her gloved hand limp around their shoulders. Witnesses said she was shot in the chest.

Webmaster's Commentary:

She was assassinated by the IDF, which is their standard operating procedure; killing innocent Gazans civilians, and killing the first responders who attempt to help them.

Netanyahu is in Europe as Trump's lobbyist-in-chief

Before taking off for Berlin on Monday morning, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was very clear what was on the agenda of his meetings with Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron and Theresa May. And no, it’s not the cultural festival marking 70 years of Israel-France relations.

Netanyahu is on his umpteenth round of talks with the European leaders to try to convince them to ditch the nuclear deal with Iran. But he knows there’s no chance of them doing so. He basically admitted that before taking off when he said, “It may not have a consensus right now, but over time I think such an understanding will be formed.”

Both Israeli and Western diplomats who have been involved in behind-the-scenes discussions over the future of the Iran deal concur with that assessment.

Norway gives “green light” to boycotts of Israel’s settlements

Municipalities which boycott Israel’s illegal settlements do not violate Norway’s international obligations, a foreign ministry official has insisted, dealing a blow to right-wing parties that tried to have two such municipal boycotts rescinded.

Audun Halvorsen, state secretary at the foreign ministry, said early May that a boycott of “goods and services produced in settlements does not contradict Norway’s international commitments.”

His comments came after three right-wing parties had appealed boycotts in Trondheim and Tromsø.

Three local right-wing opposition parties filed a complaint with the Tromsø county governor’s office, requesting a ruling on the resolution’s legality. In addition, the World Jewish Congress urged the Norwegian government to oppose Trondheim’s settlement boycott.

The Naksa: How Israel occupied the whole of Palestine in 1967

More than 50 years ago, the state of Israel shocked the world when it seized the remaining Palestinian territories of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza Strip, as well as the Syrian Golan Heights and the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, in a matter of six days.

In a war with Egypt, Jordan and Syria, known as the 1967 War, or the June War, Israel delivered what came to be known as the "Naksa", meaning setback or defeat, to the armies of the neighbouring Arab countries, and to the Palestinians who lost all what remained of their homeland.

Israeli generals sued in Dutch court for killing Gaza family

A Palestinian-Dutch citizen is suing two senior Israeli military commanders for the bombing of his family’s home during Israel’s 2014 attack on the Gaza Strip.

On 20 July of that year, without warning, an Israeli airstrike destroyed the house in the al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, killing six members of Ismail Ziada’s family and a seventh person who was visiting them.

Ziada, who lives in the Netherlands where he is married to a Dutch citizen, could not attend the funerals of his family members due to Israel’s blockade on Gaza.

He lost his mother, 70-year-old Muftia Ziada, three brothers, a sister-in-law and a 12-year-old nephew.

Ziada holds Benny Gantz and Amir Eshel, respectively the Israeli chief of staff and the chief of the air force at the time of the attack, responsible for the decision to drop the bomb.

Palestinian victim sues Dutch supplier of Israeli attack dogs

A Palestinian from the occupied West Bank is suing the Dutch company that supplied the dogs Israeli soldiers used to attack him when he was a child.

For more than 20 years, Four Winds K9, a company based near the city of Nijmegen, has annually provided the Israeli army with dozens of dogs trained to attack civilians.

The military dogs “are intentionally used by Israeli occupying forces to terrorize and bite Palestinian civilians, especially during protests and night house raids,” according to Shawan Jabarin, director of the human rights group Al-Haq.

This cruel tactic is reminiscent of how police in the United States and apartheid South Africa set attack dogs on Black citizens demanding their rights.

How to tell when defending Israel is actually racist

Many of the people who defend Israel are consciously racist (clearly), but others dehumanize Arabs and Muslims by reproducing unexamined assumptions about Israel’s moral or civilizational superiority. Anyway, I’m less concerned with intent than with consequences. Anti-Arab racism is normalized to the point of common sense, largely because defending Israel requires dehumanization of Palestinians, Lebanese, and Syrians (and often Muslims more generally).

Because we spend so much time debating when (or if) criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic, we rarely get around to assessing how pro-Israel narratives exhibit anti-Arab racism. It seems important to rectify this problem.

‘How do you expect the young to forget?’: a visit to Shatila refugee camp

The heels of my shoes hit the dirty alleyways of the camp and I am instantly confronted with the harsh smell of filth. There is the awareness that the stench of death once filled these parts. This is Shatila refugee camp. To most of the outside world, a reminder of a massacre that once happened. A gravesite, a ghetto, a hub for outlaws and criminals. To the inhabitants of this camp, perhaps it is a life sentence. Perhaps it is the dying hope of a return to a home that once was. The old will die and the young will forget. Wasn’t this the plan for those who were exiled from their homes in Palestine? The old are dying, along with their frustration and memories of Palestine. The young, how do you expect the young to forget? Isn’t every minute of every day in a refugee camp enough of a constant reminder?

Israel soldiers who shot Palestinian teen in the back to walk free

Two Israeli soldiers who shot and killed Palestinian teen Samir Awad will walk free after indictments against them were dropped.

The pair shot Samir Awad, a 16-year-old Palestinian, in the back on 15 January 2013. Samir and his friends had been playing near the Separation Barrier outside Budrus, north west of occupied Ramallah, when he became trapped in the fence. The two soldiers from Israel’s 71st Armoured Corps Battalion then appeared from their nearby hiding place and shot the teen as he tried to flee.

A subsequent inquiry undertaken by Israeli human rights organisation B’Tselem said that the soldiers in question had not been in any danger at the time of the incident. Since open-fire regulations permit soldiers to use live ammunition only in cases of real and immediate mortal danger, Samir was shot unlawfully.

Knesset blocks bill defining Israel as ‘country of all citizens’

A bill calling for Israel to be defined as a state of all its citizens was stopped before it reached the Knesset for discussion yesterday.

Submitted by three Joint List Members of the Knesset, the Basic Law: A Country of All Its Citizens stood contrary to efforts to define Israel as “the state of the Jewish people” thus denied equal rights to its non-Jewish citizens.

Haaretz reported Knesset legal adviser Eyal Yinon “said that the legislation seemed to be aimed at altering basic principles – for example, by essentially cancelling the Law of Return (which declares the right of every Jew to immigrate to Israel), and determining instead that receipt of Israeli citizenship will be based on a person’s familial affiliation to another citizen of the state.”

This is the first time proposed legislation has been thrown out before being discussed in the last two Knesset terms.

Detainee Al Tamimi’s Health Seriously Deteriorates in Israeli Custody

The health condition of a Palestinian detainee held in Israeli jails, Hassan Al Tamimi, aged 16, has seriously deteriorated on Sunday, due to medical negligence.

PPS added that this move aims at blackmailing the family of the child and puts him at risk of losing life.
