U.S. Backed Opposition in Venezuela Attempts to Usher in Monsanto

By Brandon Turbeville

As the U.S. empire exhausts itself on wars in the Middle East and provocations in Asia and Eastern Europe, the “democracy” and “free market reforms” that are a hallmark of the Anglo-American system are becoming more and more apparent to the rest of the world.

One hallmark of Western imperialism has been the spread and even the mandate of Big Ag GMO seeds where the Anglo-American empire cannot spread itself by corruption, bribes and covert means, militarily conquered nations are often forced to abandon traditional agriculture in favor of “biotechnology” particularly products that belong to multinational corporations like Monsanto...

Monsanto Backs Out Of Seed Plant In Argentina After Protests

In yet another victory against the multinational corporation Monsanto in Argentina, the company has now announced that it will dismantle its multi-million dollar GMO seed plant in Malvinas. Monsanto made the decision to give up on its seed plant after three years worth of protests from local citizens and GMO-free campaigners from…

This One Photo of the Olympics Sums Up Everything Wrong With Society

Waking Times

The world is fracturing at the seams at present, and in this recent photo from Rio, the stark contrast between manufactured reality and truth is clearly visible. Thousands of people are starving just outside of view of the cameras, poor people are being violently hustled out of sight by riot police, and crimes of desperation of rocking the city, yet, in the Olympic arena, paid security is doing its part to shelter event-goers from the harsh reality of life in one of the world’s most troubled cities.

Rio 2016: Fury erupts in streets as Olympic torch arrives in turmoil city

RIOTS have broken out in Rio de Janeiro after fury swept crowds as the Olympic torch arrived in the host city.

The growing discontent in the city reached boiling point at the end of the torch's three-month tour, as outraged locals took to the streets to demonstrate against the prestigious games.

In a shocking clip, infuriated Brazilians can be seen clashing with riot police after it was revealed the costs of hosting the games has increased by more than 50 per cent.

The country only recently admitted the total cost of the global event would reach $4.6bn as the country is facing its second year of recession.

'Socialist experiment' Venezuela in ruins as soldiers delete videos of 12-hour food queues

A BBC journalist, who attempted to film the crisis, was stopped and forced by soldiers to delete footage of a protest outside a supermarket as desperate Venezuelans waited for food.

Baying crowds shouted “We want to buy stuff!” as they grouped outside the store in the country’s capital, Caracas.

BBC journalist Vladimir Hernandez reports that many people approached him to say they had queued for 12 hours without being able to buy what they wanted.

In the short clip, the crew are warned by a demonstrator that they have been spotted by members of the Venezuelan army.

They are soon surrounded by soldiers as the crowd screams: “Let them film!”

Soldiers can then be heard saying: “Delete that video right now in front of me,” as the journalists are moved away from the demonstrations.

During his report on BBC Newsnight, the journalist said: “Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro faces an economic crisis unlike any Venezuela has seen before.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Conveniently absent in this report is the issue of US sanctions against Venezuela, which is reeling economically because of the severe drop in oil prices. As reported at presstv.com in March of this year:

US President Barack Obama has renewed an executive order that declares Venezuela a threat to the US, extending sanctions against the South American country for one more year. In renewing the measure, Obama said on Thursday that the situation in Venezuela constituted an "unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States" and that he was declaring a "national emergency" to counter that threat. The Obama administration first issued the executive order against Venezuela in March of last year, which provoked a storm of controversy inside the country and a backlash throughout Latin America. Following last year’s decree, Obama ordered sanctions against seven Venezuelan officials, whose economy has been battered by the steep drop in global oil prices. Venezuela has condemned the measure as a sign of Washington’s perpetual hostility towards the Latin American nation. The National Emergencies Act is a tool American presidents possess that allows them to impose sanctions on a country under certain circumstances that go beyond what Congress has approved.

While the sanctions per se would not put Venezuela over the edge geopolitically, they are a tool engineered to make the country fall more quickly and deeply into chaos, in order that "regime change" can happen, and more US-centric government can be installed.

Maduro is in deep trouble right now with his people, and the food shortages, coupled with "forced agricultural work" is not helping at all. As reported at money.cnn.com on 29 July:

A new decree by Venezuela's government could make its citizens work on farms to tackle the country's severe food shortages. That "effectively amounts to forced labor," according to Amnesty International, which derided the decree as "unlawful." In a vaguely-worded decree, Venezuelan officials indicated that public and private sector employees could be forced to work in the country's fields for at least 60-day periods, which may be extended "if circumstances merit." "Trying to tackle Venezuela's severe food shortages by forcing people to work the fields is like trying to fix a broken leg with a band aid," Erika Guevara Rosas, Americas' Director at Amnesty International, said in a statement. President Nicolas Maduro is using his executive powers to declare a state of economic emergency. By using a decree, he can legally circumvent Venezuela's opposition-led National Assembly -- the Congress -- which is staunchly against all of Maduro's actions.

How the Treasonous Venezuelan Oligarchs are Sabotaging Venezuela

The problems in Venezuela are caused by Oligarchs stealing from the people using fraud via manipulated currency rates.
The US supports these Oligarchs because they want the Oil back that Chavez nationalised. They also want to show other nations that taking back resources from Wall St. will not be tolerated.

Nations are not allowed to put the interest of the People before the interests of Wall St.

Starving Venezuelans Break Into Zoo And Eat Equally Starving Animals

A food shortage plaguing Venezuela right now has thrown citizens into a frenzy in search for sustenance and they have resorted to breaking into zoos to butcher and eat the animals. Last week, groups of intruders broke into Caricuao Zoo in Caracas, Venezuela, pulled a rare black stallion from its cage, and slaughtered him there on the spot. They left behind only his head and ribs, which zookeepers found in the morning when they entered to care for the lone horse.

Neoliberalism to push Brazil off the cliff optimistically

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff refused to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio. She has been removed from power for six months and remains outraged by the impeachment that was organized by neo-liberals. Their media outlets trumpet about the "optimism" that has gripped the masses against the backdrop of an economic recovery in Brazil. Judging by the example of Argentina, Brazil's neighboring state, this optimism will not last long. The vote for the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff will take place on 20 August. To finally remove President from office, two-thirds of Brazilian senators will have to support the initiative. If it happens, acting head of state, neoliberal of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB), Michel Temer, will stay in office before the elections in 2018...

“To whom much is given, much will be required.

“This is the very belief that made my father make this great sacrifice.
“To run for the most powerful yet unforgiving office in the world.

“There is no greater calling….

“Vote for the candidate who can’t be bought, sold, purchased, coerced, intimidated or steered from the path that is right, and just and true….

“To the veteran tuning into this speech from his or her hospital, whose been ignored and disrespected by an ungrateful system, my father is running for you….

“Vote for the one candidate who does not need this job.”

— Eric Trump, son of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, spoke Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Thousands of demonstrators took to the sweltering streets of Philadelphia on Sunday, chanting and beating drums in the first major protests ahead of the Democratic national convention.

Donald Trump and the Revolt of the Proles

The Trump phenom is about economic insecurity. This isn’t about ideology, or racism, it’s about reality;

Western elites were shocked by Brexit, shocked that all their fear mongering and finger-wagging amounted to nothing. The same is true in the US, where the media’s daily attacks on Trump have failed to erode his base of support at all, in fact, they may have added to it.

That’s the reality that made Trump possible, and that’s what this election is about, economic insecurity.

BRICS NDB to issue yuan-denominated bond in Its maiden fundraiser

The New Development Bank (NDB), a one-year-old, infrastructure-focused lender backed by emerging BRICS economies, said this week it would issue 3 billion yuan, or US$ 447.8 million, worth of bonds in China’s interbank market on July 18.

It is also the first time the multilateral bank, set up by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, has issued bonds denominated in a currency of a member country.

The bond is a five-year green bond, which raises funds for projects that benefit the environment in ways such as improving energy efficiency and preventing pollution.

The bond yield will be decided on the day of issuance, according to the bank, which is headquartered in Shanghai. Analysts expect it to fall between 2.8 percent and 3.6 percent per annum.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would imagine that these bonds, due to go on sale next Monday, will sell quite well.

US-Led Economic War, Not Socialism, Is Tearing Venezuela Apart

Venezuela's military has started monitoring ports and food processing plants, in a new effort to guarantee supplies of food and medicines. US-LED ECONOMIC WAR, NOT SOCIALISM, IS TEARING VENEZUELA APART

The political and economic crisis facing Venezuela is being endlessly pointed to as proof of the superiority of the free market.

Images and portrayals of Venezuelans rioting in the streets over high food costs, empty grocery stores, medicine shortages, and overflowing garbage bins are the headlines, and the reporting points to socialism as the cause.

The Chicago Tribune published a Commentary piece titled: “A socialist revolution can ruin almost any country.” A headline on Reason’s Hit and Run blog proclaims: “Venezuelan socialism still a complete disaster.” The Week’s U.S. edition says: “Authoritarian socialism caused Venezuela’s collapse.”

Indeed, corporate-owned, mainstream media advises Americans to look at the inflation and food lines in Venezuela, and then repeat to themselves clichés they heard in elementary school about how “Communism just doesn’t work.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

At this point, overtly, or covertly, as is happening in Venezuela, theUS government has become the "assassination nation" of any government whose system it doesn't like, or whose resources (to which it has utterly no moral right) it wants to control.

PABLO ESCOBAR’S HIPPOS KEEP HAVING SEX AND NO ONE IS SURE HOW TO STOP THEM

When drug kingpin Pablo Escobar was killed by the Colombian National Police in 1993, he left a vast and bloody legacy in his wake. The Medellín Cartel boss is regarded as one of the most prolific criminals in history, and is notorious for having built a cocaine-fueled empire on the bodies of thousands of murdered individuals. But El Patrón is also remembered by more than 50 hippopotamuses (Hippopotamus amphibius) that currently roam free near his palatial estate, Hacienda Nápoles. Escobar’s captive hippos were never meant for the rivers and estuaries of northern Colombia, yet since his death they’ve behaved as wild animals are wont to: by vigorously breeding and multiplying, slowly establishing themselves as the largest invasive species in the world.

The Global Favela

To the laughter of his SWPL audience, Colbert hammed it up and made silly faces as he recounted the violence, corruption, and incompetence as Brazil scrambles to put together the infrastructure needed to host the Summer Games. He noted billions of dollars were sent to companies which are currently being investigated for price fixing and kickbacks. He smirked about Brazil having one of the “highest violent crime rates in the world” and, making sure to trill his r’s for comedic effect, quoted the soccer player Rivaldo telling foreigners to “stay in their country of origin” because “here you will be running the risk of your life.” The meme-ready warning from police to arriving tourists “Welcome to Hell” was also featured. And though Colbert didn’t mention this, body parts recently washed ashore next to one of the key venues for the games.

Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am...

A political beacon is about to be extinguished unless he breaks with the doomed Labour Party and sets up on his own

Well I don’t know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain’t right,
I’m so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I’m wondering how I’ll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you.
Yes I’m stuck in the middle with you,
And I’m wondering what it is I should do,
It’s so hard to keep this smile from my face,
Losing control, yeah, I’m all over the place,
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right…

Victory Is Possible – Israel Shamir

Brexit is a game-changing event. Now Euro-sceptics all over Europe has got fresh wind in their sails.

Few people expected the positive outcome of Brexit referendum. Among other doubters, I expected the UK government will borrow a trick from the Clinton collection, and proclaim the "Bremain" hath it.

The political establishment of both leading parties, the Tories and Labour, wished to remain in the cosy lap of the EC. This was the will of the Bank of England, and of the City of London; of the powerful media lords, of the creative minority of yuppies, of cosmopolitan intellectuals.

'Why shouldn't we enjoy ourselves just because the country is burning?' Super-rich Socialists quaff champagne in Venezuela country club while middle class mothers scavenge for scraps in the gutter... and even the DOGS are starving

Venezuela's super-rich are enjoying lavish parties and gourmet cuisine, while middle-class people are forced to scavenge for food as the Socialist country's economy collapses.
In the opulent Caracas Country Club, where membership costs an astonishing £77,000 – 458 times the average Venezuelan salary – glamorous women in cocktail dresses were seen relishing a banquet of beef and lobster, followed by a colourful selection of puddings.
Meanwhile, in the Petare slum a few miles away, home to 370,000 Venezuelans, ordinary middle-class people were rummaging in stinking piles of rubbish for rotten cabbage leaves, desiccated limes and scraps of fetid meat.

Argentina Expels TeleSUR and RT: Double Standards When it Comes to Press Freedom

On June 8, the Argentine government notified the Latin American television network teleSUR that their services would be shut off in the country within 15 days.[1] TeleSUR, the brainchild of Hugo Chávez, is an alternative left-wing news organization founded through the cooperation of seven left leaning Latin American governments including Venezuela, Ecuador and Cuba. It gives a voice to the popular sectors of the hemisphere, covering news that often calls into question some of the right-wing biases of the hegemonic news media and provides information which promotes regional integration in Latin America. Although Argentina cited a “[renewal of] program listings,” as the reason for teleSUR’s dismissal, Patricia Villegas, the president of teleSUR, pointed toward underlying reactions against the left-leaning network, decrying the notice as “censura” (censure).

Rio declares 'state of calamity' amid cash crisis ahead of Olympics

The state government of Rio de Janeiro has announced a “state of public calamity” over its financial crisis with less than 50 days until the capital city hosts the Olympics.

A decree published late on Friday said that a fall in public revenue – mainly a result of the oil crash – could stop the government from “honouring its commitments” to host the Rio 2016 Games with just 49 days until the Opening Ceremony.

It also warned the crisis could cause a “total collapse in public security, health, education, mobility and environmental management”.

Ordered by the acting state governor, Francisco Dornelles, the decree authorised “exceptional measures” to guarantee the Games.

Rio Declares State Of "Public Calamity", Warns Of Total Collapse In Security, Health And Transport

Earlier today, the IAAF announced that Russian track and field athletes would be banned from the Rio Oympics due to allegations of systematic doping. Rune Andersen, who heads the IAAF task force overseeing Russia's attempts to reform, said that a "deep-seated culture of tolerance, or worse, appears not to be materially changed". "No athlete will compete in Rio under a Russian flag," he said.

Perhaps instead of fighting this decision, Putin's response should be a simple "thanks" because just hours later, and just 49 days before the start of the Olympics, the Rio state government declared a state of "public calamity" (yes, that's the technical term) warning of a risk of total collapse in public security, health, transport and virtually everything else, because as the local government explained, the financial crisis is preventing it from fulfilling its requirements for the Games.

The Trajectory of Venezuelan Hyperinflation Looks Frighteningly Familiar...

Extreme shortages of food and power continue to ravage the country of Venezuela, and ordinary people have been paying the price.

With triple-digit inflation, that “price” is expected to continue to soar even higher. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its most recent set April forecasts, expects inflation in Venezuela to hit 481% by the end of 2016.

Even scarier is the estimated pace of acceleration – by 2017, the IMF expects Venezuelan hyperinflation to climb to a whopping 1,642%.

Our brains have trouble computing numbers of this magnitude, so we created today’s infographic to put things in perspective. We look at it from two angles, including a historical comparison as well as a more tangible example.
