Before Leaving White House Obama Bombs CIA-Vetted Syrian Rebels Embedded with Al-Qaeda

If one event can symbolize the incoherence of the Obama administration's support for the so-called "vetted moderate" rebels in Syria, it would be one of Obama's last acts in his last full day in office.

On Friday the Pentagon reported that they had struck a terror training camp near Idlib, killing more than one hundred Al-Qaeda terrorists.

The wrinkle is that several members of a group that had previously been backed by the CIA and received TOW missiles as part of an Obama administration program—and were at the camp and embedded with Al-Qaeda—were also killed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Obama was trying to erase the trail of evidence that he had been supporting ISIS and Al Qaeda all along.

Alleged U.S., Russian Cooperation Called Into Question – Is Trump Also Hostile To Assad?

By Brandon Turbeville

After only a few days in office and a mysterious drone strike in Yemen, many are wondering just what President Donald Trump’s policy on Syria might be. After all, throughout the campaign, Trump hinted around at a stronger relationship with Russia and a realization that Assad was not only the better option but a major force for fighting terror in the region. This was clearly a good sign.

However, days after Trump has taken office, it is still unclear as to just what position Trump is going to take in regards to both Syria and Russia...

BREAKING NEWS: Russian warplanes 'fly first combat mission in Syria alongside US-led coalition aircraft'

Russian fighter jets have flown their first combat mission in Syria alongside US-led coalition forces, reports say.

The landmark operation was revealed by the Russian Defence Ministry this evening, but it is yet to be confirmed by Washington.

Coming just three days after Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States, the mission could arguably be seen as signs of America's a new relationship with Vladimir Putin's administration.

Syria Regime Changers Are Repackaging Their Plans to Sell Them to Trump

When it was formed last July, the coalition hoped that a Hillary Clinton administration would pick up its proposals for a more forward stance in support of the anti-Assad armed groups. But with Donald Trump in office instead, the supporters of a US war in Syria now have little or no chance of selling the idea.

One of the ways the group is adjusting to the new political reality is to package its proposal for deeper US military engagement on behalf of US-supported armed groups as part of a plan to counter al-Qaeda, now calling itself Jabhat Fateh al Sham.

But that rationale depends on a highly distorted presentation of the problematic relations between those supposedly “moderate” groups and al-Qaeda’s Syrian offshoot.

The Jaish al-Islam militant group has made a series of counter-attacks in the Eastern Ghouta region near Damascus, targeting Syrian troops near Hazrama and Tal Nasabiyah. Initially, the militants were able to retake some points in Hazrama but after a series of firefights and a deployment of government reinforcements to the area, they failed to develop the initial momentum. Now, government forces are readying to a final push on Nasabiyah.

Government troops have captured at least 12 US-made TOW anti-tank missile launchers en route to Eastern Ghouta, according to local media activists.

Russia Signs Deal for Syria Bases; Turkey Appears to Accept Assad

Russia signed a long-term agreement on Friday to greatly enlarge its military presence in Syria, more than doubling the space for warships in Russia’s only Mediterranean port and securing rights to an air base that may already be adding a second runway.

The agreement covers the port in Tartus and an air base near Latakia, which have been pivotal in Russian assistance to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria in fighting an array of insurgents. It ensures Russia’s ability to deploy forces in Syria for the next half-century and perhaps beyond.

News of the agreement came as Mr. Assad received what appeared to be another positive development: A Turkish official suggested publicly for the first time that Turkey would accept a peace deal in Syria’s six-year-old war that would allow Mr. Assad to stay in power.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This looks like a very positive development toward a peaceful resolution of the military conflict in Syria; but please note the timing.

It happened right at the moment Obama left office, and Trump became President.

Everything Obama did to regime change Damascus was an utter, epic fail, which cost heavens knows how many Syrian lives in the process.

Hermitage chief: New Palmyra destruction comes across as militants' vengeance

Reports said earlier the Islamic State militants had destroyed the facade of the Roman theater and the Tetrapylon compound. There was no data on how severely the monuments had suffered at the vandals' hands. "We're dealing here with the reprisals they promised long ago," Dr. Piotrovsky said. "It was quite some time ago probably as far back as last May that the IS radio said they would come and stage a new 'concert' in the theater, and now they've done it," he said making a reference to a concert that the Mariinsky Theater symphony orchestra from Russia gave at the site of the Roman theater last May, soon after the militant units had been driven out the ancient city for the first time. He said the whole situation stemmed from a change of military objectives and the beginning of an offensive later than planned initially. "This left Palmyra open to the enemy forces. As for the Roman Theater, the whole of it has undergone restoration works and it can undergo them again".

Breaking: Syrian Army Launches Large-Scale Campaign Against ISIS-Daesh In Aleppo Province

On January 19, the Syrian Army and the National Defense Forces (NDF), led by Baqir Brigade and backed up by Russian airstrikes, launched an attack against the ISIS terrorist group east of the Khanasser-Aleppo highway, capturing a number of hills and villages.

Government forces took control over the villages of Sirdah, Shuraymah, Rasem Askar, Masudiyah, Atshanah, Umm Miyal, Judaydah, and the nearby hills.

Meanwhile, the army and the NDF, led by the Tiger Forces, liberated Barlahin in the eastern Aleppo countryside, south of the group’s stronghold of al-Bab.

On January 18, the Syrian army retook the villages of Afrin and Rasm al-Abed from ISIS in the same area.

The Russian Aerospace Forces and the Turkish Armed Forces have been conducting a joint military operation in the area of al-Bab, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday. The operation involves 9 Russian warplanes [4 Su-24, 4 Su-25 and 1 Su-34] and 8 Turkish warplanes. At the same day, the Syrian army gained two more villages south of al-Bab – Afrin and Rasm al-Abed – which had been controlled by ISIS and entered into Shamer. Joint efforts of Damascus, Moscow and Ankara will easily lead to liberation of Aleppo province from the rests of ISIS terrorist if the Turkish military is able to keep under the control their moderate jihadists operating in the area.

The military situation remains tense in Deir Ezzor. Government troops, backed up by warplanes, are repelling ISIS attacks. However, the pocket is still split into two and this is a big problem for defenders.

The city of Deir Ezzor (Deir ez-Zur) in east-Syria is on the verge of falling into the hands of the Takfiris of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). More than 100,000 civilian inhabitants of Deir Ezzor and thousands of soldiers defending them are in immediate danger of being murdered by the savage ISIS forces. The current situation is a direct consequence of U.S. military action against the SAA and non-action against ISIS.

Deir Ezzor is besieged by ISIS since September 2015. But the city was well defended by its garrison of Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and all further attacks by ISIS were repelled. Supply to the city was hauled in by air through the Deir Ezzor airport and through air drops by the Syrian and Russian airforces. Relief by ground forces and ground supplies are not possible as Deir Ezzor is more than 100 km away from the nearest SAA positions west of Palmyra and as the desert in between is under the control of ISIS.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It will only be a few days (hopefully) until the blood-soaked Obama regime is gone.

I hope Trump and his advisors are thinking about a way to deal with Syria which does not involve US boots on the ground, because that will almost inevitably lead to Russia boots on the ground here.

Syrian government troops, supported by the Russian Aerospace Forces’ attack helicopters, have expanded a buffer zone around the Tyas Airbase in the province of Homs. The Syrian army recaptured from ISIS terrorists the Jihar junction east of the Tyas Airbase and secured the area southeast of the village of Shufria.

On January 16, government forces made a push in the direction of the Jihar field and the mount of Jihar, engaging ISIS terrorists in an intense fighting. If the army and its allies want to create conditions for an offensive on Palmyra, they will need to liberate a bunch of hilltops and oil and gas fields north and northeast of the Jihar junction.

Allies Block Obama’s Bid for Last Big UN Showdown With Russia

With just a week left in power, President Obama is said to be spoiling for one last big “showdown” with Russia at the UN Security Council. Diplomats, however, say the matter is all but dead, with both Britain and France resisting and trying to delay the vote beyond Obama’s term.

The resolution in question is a long-sought effort to impose sanctions on Syria for alleged chemical weapons use early in the Syrian Civil War, and the resolution would also criticize ISIS for its more recent chemical weapons use. The US has imposed unilateral sanctions instead, likely a recognition the UN vote isn’t happening.

The issue is two-fold, with the expectation that President-elect Donald Trump isn’t on the same page with Obama on the resolution a big reason US allies don’t want to push it through in Obama’s last days, fearing it would start relations with the new administration off on a bad footing. The bigger reason though is the January 23 Astana peace talks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Fingers crossed that the Astana talks will get some traction, because at the end of the day, the solution in Syria has to be political, rather than military.

And good on the UN for deferring voting on this resolution, particularly when it was proven that Syria did not use chemical weapons against its own people.

Syria did not use chemical weapons against its own people.

Risks and Opportunities for 2017

Just a few days into 2017 and we can already say with a great degree of confidence that 2017 will be a historical year. Furthermore, I submit that 2017 will be the “Year of Trump” because one of roughly three things will happen: either Trump will fully deliver on his threats and promises, or Trump deliver on some, but far from all, his threats and promises or, finally, Trump will be neutralized by the Neocon-run Congress, media, intelligence community. He might even be impeached or murdered.

Of course, there is an infinity of sub-possibilities here, but for the purpose of this discussion I will call the first option “Trump heavy”, the second one “Trump light” and the third one “Trump down”.

US watched ISIS rise in Syria and hoped to ‘manage’ it — Kerry on leaked tape

The New York Times got a hold of the tape back in September and wrote a story about it. So did CNN. More on their accounts later.

The thrust of the conversation was the mutual frustration of Kerry and the Syrians that Bashar al-Assad was still in power and able to commit atrocities with the support of the Russians, who don’t adhere to international law the way we Americans do. I’d recommend listening to the whole tape; but the conversation went something like this:

The Syrians complained we aren’t helping enough. Kerry and his associates said we and the Saudis and Qatar and Turkey had provided huge amounts of aid to the rebels, who unfortunately were sort of aligned with extremists.

“Nusra makes it hard,” Kerry said, referring to Jabhat al-Nusra, the Al Qaeda affiliate in Syria. “Nusra and Daesh [ISIS] both make it hard, because you have this extreme element out there and unfortunately some of the opposition has kind of chosen to work with them.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable; the US government allowed ISIS to grow to destabilise the Syrian government, believing it would push Al-Assad to the negotiating table, and then would resign; but Al-Assad called for Russian help, which has been the major factor in getting most of the jihadists out of Syria successfully.

And no one in the White House, Pentagon, or State Department saw Russian help coming, if Al Assad asked for it?!?

THAT...was a catastrophic failure of imagination on the part of the US government, and very much demonstrates an almost pathological inability of US government analysts to think a scenario through to its logical conclusion.

Syrian Army warns Israel it will respond after military airport bombed near Damascus

The army said several missiles were fired at the Mezzeh airport’s compounds from the Lake Tiberias area in northern Israel at about 12am Friday. The strike reportedly damaged one of the compounds of the crucial military facility.

The Mezzeh airport is located west of Damascus, just 5 kilometers from the Presidential Palace, the official residence of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Jan 13 10:29

Just as the Syrian proxy war showed some hopeful signs of finally dying down, the Syrian army command said on Friday that Israeli jets have bombed the Mezzeh military airport west of Damascus, accusing Tel Aviv of supporting terrorism, and warned Tel Aviv of repercussions of what it called a "flagrant" attack. Syrian state TV quoted the army as saying several rockets were fired from an area near Lake Tiberias in northern Israel just after midnight which landed in the compound of the airport, a major facility for elite Republican Guards and special forces. The airport was rocked by multiple explosions, some of which were captured by social media.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to Russia's President Vladimir Putin; the Israeli government is doing its damnedest to get you to respond militarily here, as the "excuse" for all that manpower and weaponry with which the US and NATO have stockpiled on your borders to be allowed to be unleashed, and describe it as their response to "Russian aggression."

Please don't take the bait, President Putin; it is only, thankfully, one week before the inauguration of Donald Trump.

And when that happens, I strongly suspect that the relationship between our two countries will become infinitely more pragmatic, and business-like, which is the way sensible, mature countries treat each other.

And finally, sir: no matter how prodigious the amounts of horse manure this government and their presstitutes are attempting to rain down in their futile, and fact-free, attempts to demonise Russia, in order to get Americans whipped up into a "wargasm", trumpeting the necessity of a war against Russia for false, and stunningly stupid, claims against it, no thinking American I know wants war with Russia.

And to President Al-Assad; please be very careful and cautious about how you answer this vicious, unprovoked Israeli attack.

This attack, in the dead of night, speaks volumes about the character, and complete, and utter, absence of morality, of the current Israeli government in Tel Aviv.

Israeli forces delivered military strikes against the Mezzah military air facility near the Syrian capital of Damascus early on Friday. The strikes targeted an ammunitions hub, producing an enormous explosion.

The airport is a major logistical asset used by the Syrian government to transit troops and military supplies. The Syrian army warned that there will be repercussions for Israel for the “flagrant attack” on the airport.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I suspect the plan here is to goad Russia into taking some action to protect Syria from Israel, which will be spun as a threat to Israel, and used as the excuse to send those forces massed along the Polish border into Russia.

Putin won't bite. He has only a week to wait things out.

Meanwhile, I'll bet this is Trump's "red pill" regarding Israel's true nature!

New Israeli missile attack on Mezzeh military airport west of Damascus

The air force of the Israeli enemy hit al-Mezzeh military airport west of Damascus just after midnight. A military source told SANA that several missiles were fired from the Lake Tiberias area and landed in the surroundings of al-Mezzeh airport at 12:25 after midnight, causing a fire to erupt. The source said the new Israeli attack came in support of the terrorist organizations “to raise their morale”. The General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces has warned the Israeli enemy of the repercussions of this “flagrant attack”, said the source. The Command pledged to continue its war on terrorism “until eliminating it and cutting off the arms supporting it,” the source added. Al-Mezzeh military airport came under a similar Israeli attack on December 7 of last year, where several ground-to-ground missiles were fired from inside the occupied Palestinian territories to the west of Tall Abu al-Nada (hill). The missiles hit near the airport and caused a fire to break out but no casualties.

Obama’s ‘Farewell To Arms’ As War Presidency Ends

Self-declared liberal Americans consider Bush to be a warmongering disaster, yet somehow they hail Obama as some kind of progressive «peace president».

Eight straight years of warmongering come to an end as US President Barack Obama bows out with his «farewell to the nation» speech this week, as fawning American media dubbed his valediction.

In reality, Obama’s outgoing address should have been billed as a «farewell to arms» made by arguably one of the most belligerent presidents to ever have occupied the White House.

Only in exceptionally delusional America could such a pernicious paradox be presented as something honorable and sentimental.

Grand Mufti Of Syria Dismantles Lie That Syrian Crisis Is Driven By Religious Strife

By Brandon Turbeville

While most Americans are force fed propaganda and misinformation about virtually every country outside their own borders (including the country in which they live) Syria has been a particular target of the corporate press. In fact, so much propaganda and lies have been spread regarding Syria and the crisis unfolding there that the average person glued to Fake News outlets like CNN, FOX, and MSNBC could scarcely recite one fact about the country correctly.

One such propaganda narrative is the lie that the Syrian crisis is sectarian in nature and that the country was plagued by religious tension and division before the war began. Neither of these claims were the case and, five years into the NATO imperialist war effort, Syrians are as united as they have ever been...

The news agency noted that on October 31, 2016, terrorists fired shells containing chlorine at the al-Hamdaniya neighborhood in the south of the city. The attack left 48 people injured. On November 3, 2016, the Minyan district was attacked, with eight people affected.

Dense artillery and rocket shelling was reported in southern Aleppo on January 9 and January 10 as government forces and Jabhat Fatah al-Sham-led coalition of militant groups were targeting each other in the area. This clearly showed that the Syrian army and its allies still need to conduct a number of offensive operations west and southwest of Aleppo in order to build a buffer zone around the city and to defend populated areas from a shelling by militant groups.

Clashes between the army and militant continued near the Salamiyah-Homs highway where Jabhat Fatah al-Sham and its allies launched an advance earlier this week. Militants have not achieved gains in the area, but their operation poses a threat to a government supply line to Aleppo. The Syrian military is deploying reinforcements.

There are doubts that the U.S. was only watching from afar. The beginning and growth of ISIS was financed by U.S. Gulf "allies" which are subordinated to U.S. wishes. When the Obama administration had to start bombing ISIS after it killed a U.S. journalist the few bombs its airforce dropped were hitting an "ISIS fighting position" or an "ISIS excavator". That wasn't a serious campaign. Meanwhile thousands of Turkish tanker trucks were waiting in the deserts to load oil from ISIS controlled wells to sell it to Turkey. Only after the Russian President Putin showed satellite pictures of those huge truck columns to his colleagues at a G20 meeting did the U.S. start to attack this major source of ISIS finances.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported by in January of last year:

ISIS: The 'Enemy' The US Created, Armed, & Funded

And as for the Takfiri forces; as reported at in 2014:

Throughout the crisis in Syria, the terrorist Takfiri groups enjoyed full political support of the United States as well as direct military, financial and logistical support from countries that are considered as US allies in the region. In addition, the Zionist regime of Israel provided Takfiri forces with direct training, consultation, and medical services, in such areas as the occupied Golan Heights, Quneitra, Utaiba, and other regions along its border with Syria and even inside Israel.

This is not just a US-sponsored fight to regime change Damascus; it is a fight against the Syrian people themselves, and their ability to control their own destiny.

The government of this country I care deeply about, my United States of America, has mutated into a war-crimes centric monster; and the hideous irony here is that it has accelerated rapidly on this path under the leadership of our Nobel Peace Prize-winning President, President Barak Obama.

And as long as I have breath, as a Christian pacifist activist, I have the moral obligation to bear peaceful, logical witness to the great evils my government continues to perpetrate, with utter impunity, and zero regard for the lives of the people against whom these war crimes have been committed.

How the US Deliberately Destroyed Iraq’s Water Supply, And Now Syria…

This incisive and carefully documented article by Prof. Thomas Nagy was first published by Global Research in September 2001.

It confirms the criminal nature of US intervention.

A similar and comparable operation in Syria has now been launched by using US supported Al Qaeda “opposition rebels”, with the help of the White Helmets to undermine and destroy the system of water supply in Damascus; this issue has been casually ignored by the Western media and the self proclaimed “international community”.

While, the modus operandi in the case of Syria differs from that described by Prof. Nagy, it nonetheless confirms a pattern. In Syria, this diabolical operation carried out by US backed terrorists, constitutes the ultimate crime against humanity.

Syrian and Russian warplanes carried out joint combat flights over a long convoy of ISIL's military vehicles West of the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur), inflicting major casualties on the terrorists and destroying a number of their vehicles. The ISIL convoy was heading to battlefields in Eastern Homs to take part in an offensive against the government forces' positions. The Russian and Syrian warplanes pounded the ISIL's convoy, destroying 14 machinegun-equipped vehicles and nine more bomb-laden suicide cars. Tens of ISIL terrorists accompanying the convoy were killed or wounded in the attack. Early reports said ISIL has transferred its injured members to Raqqa province. Also, the ISIL terrorists launched a fierce attack to occupy the strategic T4 airbase in Western Palmyra on Thursday, but failed again after the Syrian army forces repulsed their offensive rapidly and inflicted heavy casualties on them.

Post-Truth: Kerry Admits Iran and Russia Saved Syria

It is said, in a room where people unanimously maintain a conspiracy of silence, one word of truth sounds like a pistol shot. It is rare to see a top U.S. official stumble over that pistol shot, that truth, as most of them always edit their souls, pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened. Strange enough, some of them occasionally do – with some reservations though: Outgoing Secretary of State John Kerry has had the courage to admit that war-party Washington and company did everything they could over the past six years to instigate regime change in Damascus by arming and supplying militant groups – but to no avail. This week in an interview with MSNBC, Kerry said, "The radical extremists were gaining huge ground against Assad, and Assad was in a very fragile position.

President al-Assad: France’s policy on Syria is disconnected from reality of war and has helped inflame situation

President Bashar al-Assad said on Sunday France’s current policy is disconnected from the reality of the war in Syria, stressing that this policy has helped inflame the situation through the support provided to the terrorist organizations, which have turned into a threat not only to the peoples of the region, but to the peoples of the Western countries as well. His remarks came during a meeting with a French delegation, including a number of members of the French National Assembly and a number of intellectuals, headed by Thiery Mariani. The President was assured on the safety of the delegation members after the terrorist attack they came under in the vicinity of Aleppo International Airport, noting that the Syrian people have been, since the outset of the war on Syria, facing similar attacks by the terrorist organizations that are supported by regional and western countries.

Leaked Tapes Reveal John Kerry Admission That U.S. Was Pulling For ISIS In Syria, Russia Fighting Terror

By Brandon Turbeville

A WikiLeaks release of John Kerry’s statements has yet again blown the lid off the public claims of the U.S. government, Obama administration, and the corporate mainstream media in regards to ISIS and the war in Syria. The tapes of a conversation between John Kerry and the so-called “Syrian Opposition” at the Dutch Mission of the United Nations on September 22 were released on Wednesday. While mainstream media either refused to report on the leaks at all or eliminated the most incriminating parts of the tapes, Kerry openly states that the United States sat idly by while ISIS grew and grew in order to force Bashar al-Assad to “negotiate.”...

Brits Travelling To Syria To Fight ISIS Should Not Be Treated As Terrorists, Says Foreign Fighter

120 ISIS members have been killed and 10 units of military hardware destroyed, by the Syrian army in the recent clashes near the Tyas Airbase west of Palmyra, according to pro-government sources. The main clashes took place near the village of Sharifah where ISIS continued attempts to pressure government forces in order to cut off supply lines to the Tyas Airbase.

Earlier in January, reports appeared that ISIS units are withdrawing from the area of the Tyas Airbase. Now, it’s clear that this move was a maneuver aimed to regroup and prepare for further offensive operations.

Syrian Christians in US Thankful for Aleppo Liberation

Syrian Christian refugees in US express their thanks at Christmastime for the liberation of East Aleppo by Syrian and Russian forces... the Obama Administration still continues to use every legal gimmick they can find to keep Christians from receiving asylum in America. The reason is simple. Obama and Clinton don't want these Christians talking about the beheadings and crucifixions by the US-backed terrorists back home. And the few Syrian Christians who do receive asylum here are careful not to. But oops! I mean a really BIG BIG OOPS! It seems someone in the State Department forgot to tell a group of Syriac Orthodox Christian refugees in Paramus New Jersey that they are supposed to see the liberation of East Aleppo as a tragedy--not a Christmas Gift from God Almighty!

Putin's Brutal Sappers Are Vandalizing Aleppo With 'Clear of Mines' Graffiti!

Something horrible is happening in Aleppo. Check out this introduction to a Daily Mail photo essay... Harrowing pictures, utter devastation, haunting images, Russian tanks driving through streets littered with rubble, Russian soldiers making their mark on the ruble with mysterios cyrilic graffiti. Desperate Syrian women and barefoot children, among dogs picking through the wreckage of buildings. Rows of weaponry mysteriously lined on the ground and huge explosions shaking the earth! Oh my, this is horrible! What disaster has befallen this long-suffering city now?! It turns out Aleppo has been invaded by an army of Russian sappers combing the city for mines. It has Russian military engineers sharing their canteen food with civilians, leading bomb detection dogs looking for explosives, handling and collecting dangerous unexploded ordnance and disposing of it in controled exposions. In areas which they have cleared they leave a graffiti saying "MIN NET" or "clear of mines"...

Open Letter To “Human Rights Defenders” On Aleppo

Let there be no mistake: this is by no means a criticism of human rights as an ideal to work for. The complete title should be “Open letter to those who invoke human rights selectively in order to justify the Western Powers’ policy of intervention in the internal affairs of other countries.”

Indeed, the only issue to be discussed about Syria is not the situation on the ground (which may be complicated), but the legitimacy of the interventionist policies of the U.S. and its “allies”, Europeans, Turkey, and the Gulf states in that country.

False Witnesses: How Doctors Without Borders Spread al-Qaeda's Propaganda

MSF has been 'reporting' atrocities from Syria's Aleppo where it actually has no presence... Here is a paradox for you. The exalted humanitarian outfit (and fundraising wonder) Doctors Without Borders (MSF), aside from providing medical services to people in some of the world's worst hellholes, also believes its mission is to speak out against human rights violations that they witness doing so. In keeping with this mission of "bearing witness" the MSF has therefore repeatedly spoken of attacks by the Syrian government on hospitals and civilians, particularly in Eastern Aleppo. Except here is the catch: Since 2015 MSF has had no international staff on the ground in Syria and has no facilities whatsoever in Aleppo. (The supposed "MSF hospitals" that were supposedly kept being hit in Aleppo upon closer reading actually turn out to merely be "hospitals supported by MSF and other organizations".) So then how is MSF able to "bear witness" to attacks that it could not possibly have seen?

UK-Based Monitor: More Than Half of 'Syrian Rebels' Are Foreigners

Foreign fighters dominate rebel casualty rolls according to the anti-Assad Syrian Observatory for Human Rights... End of year means one thing. The "Syrian Observatory for Human Rights", an anti-Assad activist network originally set up in 2006, updates its casualty figures for the Syrian civil war. According to SOHR's updated figures from January 1st 2015 through December 31st 2016 the conflict in Syria cost the lives of: 13,607 civilians (according to SOHR the vast majority killed by the Syrian military); 12,886 Syrian soldiers and pro-government militiamen; 2,306 foreign pro-government fighters; and: 8,130 Syrian opposition fighters (by which SOHR means all rebels including ISIS); 13,297 foreign fighters with the opposition. One may wonder how SOHR is able to gather such precise numbers. Despite the thick fog of war over Syria made worse by the competing propaganda campaigns of the various sides every single number that SOHR provides is given down to a single digit...

That Time HRW’s Ken Roth Contradicted Himself Twice In 4 Days Over Syria

By Brandon Turbeville

Human Rights Watch and its Executive Director, Kenneth Roth, have managed a number of brazen failures in their attempt to support Western-backed terrorists in their goal of advancing Western imperialism in Syria. From using photos of cities the United States has bombed in order to blame the destruction on Bashar al-Assad to attacking Syrian nuns who attempted to correct Western media propaganda about kidnapped civilians in Lattakia, HRW has made a name for itself as one of the loudest shill organizations originating out of Soros Land.

Kenneth Roth, however, appears to be in a race with his own organization to see who can discredit and/or humiliate him/itself the most...

In Syria, Western Media Cheer Al Qaeda

The Syrian government—a dictatorship known for imprisoning, torturing and disappearing dissidents—is easy to vilify. And over the last five years of Syria’s civil war, it has committed its share of atrocities. But there is more than one side to every story, and US media coverage has mainly reflected one side—that of the rebels—without regard for accuracy or basic context.

Turks turn down US military help, asks Russia for air support: US officials

Turkey has declined the US military’s offer to provide air support for its troops in Syria, asking Russia to take on the role instead, American officials say.

Jan 05 07:53

The ceasefire agreement, which came into effect on December 30 and was the first step to negotiations in Astana on the settlement of the Syrian conflict, remained shaky across Syria. The intensity of clashes observed in the provinces of Aleppo, Hama, Daraa and Quneitra was much reduced. Clashes continued in Eastern Ghouta and in Wadi Barada near Damascus.

It can be explained by limitations of Turkey’s influence on militant groups in these areas, Ankara had not been able to push the so-called “moderate part” of the opposition to separate itself from Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) and by a high importance of these areas for the Syrian government. So, both militants and government forces continued offensive operations against each other there.

Turkey questions US coalition presence at Incirlik Air Base amid ‘confidence crisis’

Top Turkish officials have questioned the use of Incirlik Air Base by the US-led coalition, citing a “confidence crisis” with Washington and inadequate support for Turkey’s ground forces in Syria.

The US-led coalition does little to provide aerial support to Turkish troops deployed in Syria as part of the Operation Euphrates Shield, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told state-run Anadolu news agency on Wednesday.

“Our people ask, ‘why are they using the Incirlik Airbase. We allowed not only the US but also other countries’ jets to use Incirlik to jointly fight [Islamic State],” he said.

“What purpose are you serving if you do not provide aerial support against Daesh [Islamic State] in the most sensitive operation for us?” he added.

US coalition spared ISIS oil production facilities in Syria – Russian MoD

The US-led international coalition did not bomb oil production facilities captured by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants in Syria, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov has stated.

“Miraculously, only oil fields, captured by ISIS allowing the militants to earn tens of millions of dollars every month on illegal oil sales and recruit mercenaries from all over the world, did not come under the US bombardment,” Konashenkov said.

Syrian rebels suspend peace talks as they accuse President Assad's regime of violating a four-day-old ceasefire with attacks near Damascus

A dozen Syrian rebel factions have suspended talks on new peace negotiations, accusing President Bashar al-Assad's regime of violating a four-day-old ceasefire with attacks near Damascus that continued today.

The suspension threatens the process, which is sponsored by regime ally Russia and rebel backer Turkey.

Both states have been urged to intervene and save the truce.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good News: Washington Frozen Out of Syria Peace Plan

As the US mainstream media obsessed last week about Russia's supposed “hacking” of the US elections and President Obama’s final round of Russia sanctions in response, something very important was taking place under the media radar. As a result of a meeting between foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, and Turkey last month, a ceasefire in Syria has been worked out and is being implemented. So far it appears to be holding, and after nearly six years of horrible warfare the people of Syria are finally facing the possibility of rebuilding their lives.

What is so important about this particular ceasefire? It was planned, agreed to, and implemented without the participation of the United States Government.

U.S./UK Paid "White Helmets" Help Blocking Water To 5 Million Thirsty Syrians

The blockade of water from Wadi Barada to 5 million people in Damascus is taking an interesting turn. The U.S. and UK financed White Helmet organization seems to be directly involved in it. This increases the suspicion that the illegal blockade of water to civilians in Damascus is part of a organized campaign under U.S. command. The campaign is designed to block utilities to government held areas as revenge for the liberation of east Aleppo.

Briton Killed In Syria While Fighting ISIS Alongside Kurdish YPG

Briton Ryan Lock, 20, has been killed fighting Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants in Syria. He had joined the Kurdish YPG militia with no military experience in August.

Lock, a chef from Chichester in Sussex, was killed alongside four other fighters on December 21. He had told his family he was going on holiday to Turkey, but actually continued on to Syria to join the militia.
