Relief well is closing in on Porter Ranch gas leak

A relief well is within 20 feet of reaching the leaking Southern California Gas Co. well in Aliso Canyon that released tons of methane into the air and led to the dislocation of thousands of residents, regulatory and company officials said Monday.

Once they can access the leak — which is about 1.6 miles below ground — crews will cap the well with cement.

Well, that certainly fits the bill.

FLASHBACK - When It Rains, It Pours Tax Dollars In Maryland

It seems like every year state and federal lawmakers pass legislation that either a) increases an existing tax rate or b) levies a new tax or fee on constituents. Whether the tax is applied to income, property, sales, vehicle registration, inheritance, or even death itself, legislators are continuously thinking of new ways to get an extra penny out of the American people.

Federal grand jury indicts 16 people in Malheur refuge takeover

I wish the USC # was in here so we could read the law they are charged under. Also unless it is a mistake, they indicted a 15 year old girls as being one of the ringleaders. This whole thing smells bad.

Ammon Bundy and 15 others accused in the armed takeover of a federal wildlife refuge have been indicted in court on charges of conspiracy to impede federal officers through intimidation, threats or force.

A federal grand jury returned the indictments Wednesday, and they were unsealed Thursday morning.

It accuses Ammon Bundy, the leader of the monthlong armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge outside Burns, and the other key players of conspiring to prevent employees of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from working at the refuge, taking over the property armed with firearms and intimidating the people of Harney County.

Still recruiting officers from the intellectually challenged I see!

Mario A. Garcia was booked into a Los Angeles County jail after law enforcement mistook him for a man with an identical birth date and the same first and last names. Garcia protested that deputies had the wrong man: The other Garcia, wanted on a warrant, was 9 inches shorter, 40 pounds lighter and had a different middle name.

But it wasn't until three days after the arrest that a judge rectified the mistake and released Garcia.

Oregon standoff leader Ammon Bundy, others indicted

By STEVEN DUBOIS Updated 30 min ago (0)

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted Ammon Bundy and some of the men and women who joined him at the armed occupation of an Oregon wildlife refuge, authorities said Wednesday.
However, the indictment remained sealed and further details on the charges were unavailable.
Defense attorneys demanded the immediate unsealing of the indictment — a request denied Wednesday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Janice Stewart. In a criminal complaint, defendants have a right to a preliminary hearing in which they can question the arresting officer under oath about probable cause for the charges.

After an indictment, they are no longer entitled to such a proceeding.
The cancellation of preliminary hearings that had been scheduled for Wednesday dismayed attorneys for the accused.

FLASHBACK: LAS VEGAS PREMIERE SET TO EXPOSE BLM MISMANAGEMENT

By Roy L. Hales

August 6, 2013 (Las Vegas) – It is no coincidence that the Las Vegas premiere of “Who Are My People?” is on August 13. National Clean Energy Summit 6.0 takes place the same day.

The Secretary of the Interior (Sally Jewell), Secretary of Energy (Dr. Ernest Moniz), Chairman Jon Wellinghoff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will be there along with an array of governors, senators, former senators, the CEO of the American Wind Association, the Director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, etc. will all be at the summit.

Emmy Award winning filmmaker Robert Lundahl invited them to the showing.

“They should be there because they need to understand the impacts of their policies,” Lundahl said. “There is giant disconnect between the polices and the people who make the policies and the impact these policies have on the Native culture, tribes and the environment.”

Public Land Mismanagement

“This legislation guarantees that we will not take our forests, rivers, oceans, national parks, monuments and wilderness areas for granted, but rather we will set them aside and guard their sanctity for everyone to share. Apple made enough to pay its £11.8million tax bill in just two hours: Company made £5.9m an hour in last three months

Apple made enough money in just two hours to pay its entire UK corporate tax bill.

The California-based technology giant raked in record profits of £12.9billion on its worldwide operations in the last three months.

This was equivalent to £5.9million an hour – meaning it could cover the £11.8million UK tax bill it paid last year in just 120 minutes.

Minister promised cosy tax deals to US giants: As Osborne Google fury deepens politician spent thousands of public money flying around the world to tell firms how they would be given special treatment

Just days after Mr Gauke appeared in the Commons to defend the controversial Google tax deal, it has emerged he spent thousands of pounds of public money travelling across the globe to ‘promote the UK tax system’.

The minister outlined how the international giants would be given VIP treatment by HM Revenue & Customs.

He pledged that if their firm was large enough, the taxman would provide ‘relationship managers’ to help them avoid ‘expensive litigation’ over tax disputes.

And he told them the amount of tax that international companies pay should not be dictated by ‘what a group of politicians think is the “fair amount”.’

Mr Gauke declared: ‘The UK government believes in a low corporation rate. We believe in a simple system that taxes profits in the UK. And we believe in good working relationships between companies and tax officials.’

70 Changes That Make Obamacare A Very Different Law Than Congress Passed

One reason why the anger over Obamacare has subsided somewhat could be that more than 70 significant changes have been made to the law since it was enacted in 2010—delaying, weakening, and eliminating some of its more onerous and burdensome provisions. The law that is being implemented is not the one Congress passed.

By our updated count at the Galen Institute, at least 43 of the changes to the Affordable Care Act have been made unilaterally by the Obama administration, 24 have passed Congress and been signed into law by President Obama, and three were made by the Supreme Court, which had to rewrite the law to uphold it.

Another Corporate Giant Is Leaving the U.S. – What This Means for You

Over the past couple of years, dozens of high-profile U.S. companies have moved abroad to lower their corporate income tax rate. No surprise, this makes them more globally competitive.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US has some of the highest taxes in the world. Other nations have high taxes, but in those nations, people and corporations get something back for all that money. Free education, inexpensive health care, good roads, good schools, SAFE DRINKING WATER!

In the US, Washington DC has become a "money motel." Money goes in, but it does not come out, at least not back to the people and businesses that paid it. Where does it all go? The fact that the US has the world's largest number of billionaires is one clue. Certainly the constant overt and covert support for Israel is another. Then there is the propping up of Wall Street, the wars of conquest, and most importantly, servicing that hopelessly unpayable debt that has piled up over the last 100 years since a corrupt Congress and corrupted President sold this nation back into the same form of banker slavery we fought the revolution to break free of!

A Tidal Wave of Corporate Migrants Seeking (Tax) Shelter

Congress approved a bailout plan worth almost $80 billion for General Motors and Chrysler, saving the automakers and, indirectly, suppliers like Johnson Controls. By 2010, with its business back on track, Johnson Controls doubled the pay of Stephen Roell, then its chief executive, to more than $15 million.

Despite the federal government’s rescue — and hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks over the last several decades from states like Michigan and Wisconsin — Johnson Controls said on Monday it was renouncing its United States corporate citizenship by selling itself to Tyco International, based in Ireland, a deal struck in large part to reduce its tax bill, which it said should drop by about $150 million annually.

The End of Tax Havens?

Most people will abide low to moderate taxation but, whenever governments have become truly rapacious in taxing their people, those people have sought to escape enslavement from their own governments. Sometimes, this has meant physically leaving the country (as so many Britons did in the 70’s) and, sometimes, this has meant moving one’s money to a jurisdiction that has either low, or no, direct taxation.

Tax havens have a long history and, since the 70’s, as taxation in much of the world has been on the rise, havens have unsurprisingly flourished.

Google £130m tax 'sweetheart deal' should be audited, says Labour

The Labour Party has called on the National Audit Office to investigate Google’s agreement to pay £130m in back taxes, branding the arrangement a “sweetheart deal”.

The payment, which covers money owed by the search engine giant since 2005, follows a six-year inquiry by Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs. It was hailed as a “victory” by Chancellor George Osborne, on Saturday; he called on other large companies to follow suit. “Good to see Google paying more tax on past profits,” Mr Osborne tweeted. “We want successful businesses in UK – but they should pay their taxes.”

But Labour’s shadow Chancellor, John McDonnell, described the size of Google’s back payment as “derisory” and accused the Government of accepting a “relatively small amount” of tax compared to Google’s vast profits in the UK.

JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs want Britain to stay within the European Union and they are spending money to make sure the UK stays. Surprise. BEXALERT!: Earth’s temperature depends on where you put thermometer

WASHINGTON (AP) — When it comes to measuring global warming, it’s all about altitude.

Temperature readings taken close to Earth’s surface — about 6 feet off the ground — show a slightly warmer planet than measurements taken from on high by satellites in orbit.

And that discrepancy has given ammunition to climate-change doubters.

Government agencies and most scientists rely primarily on ground measurements, and they show that 2015 was the warmest year on record.

IRS Erases Hard Drive Despite Court Order

This is not the first time the agency has failed to preserve key information. In War Games, Navy SEALs Normalize Treating U.S. Citizens as Enemy

United States Navy SEALs planned war games in the state of Washington for mid-January, where they would encroach upon residential areas, state parks, national parks, etc, without the consent of the public. The war games treat citizens as pawns because SEALs were trained to react to citizens as potential terrorists.

One of the most alarming aspects of the war games, which were reported on by Truthout journalist Dahr Jamail, is how it normalizes the idea that U.S. citizens can be enemies. The war games suggest a future where many more military exercises run roughshod over public spaces and soldiers simulate how citizens could pose a danger to them.

Broken Treaties 101

The United States has a long history in which it abused its relative power over other populations. Its relations with Native Americans were no different in this regard. The United States frequently signed and committed itself to treaties with Native Americans that they repeatedly broke, a practice that has been present in American policy since its inception.

Native Americans without Treaties

One of the largest groups of Native Americans without a treaty of recognition with the US are the Native Hawaiians—the native people that inhabited the State of Hawaii. Though it is undisputed that the Native Hawaiians are a native people—people that are indigenous to the land they now live on that were there before any contact with the US or European explorers—the Hawaiians are not what lawyers call a recognized tribe.

IT’S ONLY ONE PERCENT: OBAMA’S “BOIL THE FROG” APPROACH TO GUN CONTROL

They say if you want to boil a frog, you can’t just toss him in boiling water. Instead, you put him in lukewarm water, and gradually turn up the heat. That way, the frog never realizes he’s been boiled. The Powers That Be (PTB) have exercised the “frog” axiom throughout history.

• Take income tax. Though now an accepted way of life, income tax wasn’t always around. The original U.S. Constitution excluded it; in 1895 the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional.

Therefore the only way the PTB could establish income tax was by legalizing it through a Constitutional Amendment. That Amendment was introduced in Congress by Senator Nelson Aldrich, who also introduced the original legislation which ultimately became the Federal Reserve Act. He was David Rockefeller’s maternal grandfather.

Why We Fear the IRS

The IRS scam, on the other hand, works entirely by fear. It takes people who haven’t done anything wrong, and makes them afraid that they have. That’s a pretty hefty achievement. Imagine trying to extort money from someone by, say, claiming that they had murdered someone. You might elicit laughter, or bewilderment, but you’d rarely elicit much cash.

Which raises the obvious question: How did we get into a situation where it’s so easy for people to believe that the IRS is about to arrest them for a crime they weren’t even aware of having committed?

You guessed it: The IRS is incredibly powerful, and the tax code is incredibly opaque.

HOW I FELL FACE FIRST FOR AN EPIC IRS SCAM

I received a call on my home phone recently from someone who identified himself as Officer Jason Dean with the Investigative Bureau of the Department of Treasury. He said an arrest warrant had been issued in my name for failure to respond to IRS Notice CP503 — a third reminder — informing me that I owed $5,347 in back taxes. He said my home and cell phones were being traced and I should not attempt to leave the city.

“That’s ridiculous,” I said, “I never received any notices.”

“That is not my concern,” he replied. “We’re only calling you as a courtesy to inform you that you will be arrested and charged with failure to meet federal taxation requirements, malicious conduct, and theft by deception. You will be arrested within the next two hours and held in custody for six months pending an investigation.”

And just like that, I was caught in what has become the biggest tax scam in American history.
