An Israeli official says the two boats carrying pro-Palestinian activists will be allowed to reach the Gaza Strip.
The 46 activists are seeking to enter Gaza in defiance of an Israeli-led blockade on the territory.
Israel had warned the activists not to undertake the naval journey. But on Saturday afternoon, Foreign Ministry spokesman Aviv Shiron said Israel would allow the vessels to reach Gaza. He gave no explanation for the change in heart.
Had Israel interfered with the boats (and there were earlier reports that electronic jamming had been directed at the boats), it would have been a public relations disaster for Israel.
Thankfully, cooler heads have prevailed here.
