The US covertly overthrew Guatemala's elected government in 1954, ousting President Jacobo Arbenz, and installing the first in a long line of dictators that have ruled Guatemala since. This led to a civil war that ran from 1960 to 1996, with massive atrocities committed by the US-backed military dictatorship. This may be another case of a people trying to kick out a US puppet government, which is why the corporate media will ignore it.
