Google executives facing jail in Italy over a video

Peter Fleischer and three other Google executives face criminal charges in Italy over the posting of a video showing a disabled teen being harassed by peers. They face up to a maximum of 36 months if convicted on the charges.

"It's akin to prosecuting mail service employees for hate speech letters sent in the post," a Google spokeswoman said in an e-mail. "Seeking to hold neutral platforms liable for content posted on them is a direct attack on a free, open Internet."

It shouldn’t come as a big surprise what this has brought us to. One reason things didn’t fall apart when Congress didn’t immediately act as Paulson and Bernanke demanded, may be that there wasn’t any danger of a meltdown in the first place. So say three senior economists working at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, who in October examined the Fed’s own data, and concluded in an article titled Facts and Myths About the Financial Crisis of 2008 that the claims that interbank lending and commercial lending had seized up were simply not true. “Bank lending to consumers and to non-financial companies had not ceased, and banks were lending to each other at record levels,” says V.V. Windows Vista stuck on single digit enterprise adoption

Just over two years since Microsoft launched Windows Vista, fewer than 10 per cent of PCs in the enterprise are running the successor to the company's eight-year-old Windows XP.

That compares to last July when Forrester reportedly said Windows Vista adoption was at 8.8 per cent and Windows XP was at 87.1 per cent. In that report, Forrester said Windows Vista was like "new Coke", which was killed by its corporate parent because nobody like it.

Clearly, little has changed since then, with the analyst shifting its emphasis to say Windows Vista is powering "just fewer than 10 per cent of all PCs within enterprises."

Prosecutor looks at ways to put Israeli officers on trial for Gaza 'war crimes'

The International Criminal Court is exploring ways to prosecute Israeli commanders over alleged war crimes in Gaza.

The alleged crimes include the use of deadly white phosphorus in densely populated civilian areas, as revealed in an investigation by The Times last month. Israel initially denied using the controversial weapon, which causes horrific burns, but was forced later, in the face of mounting evidence, to admit to having deployed it.

Gaza New Siege Mechanism

The rebuilding of Gaza has become the latest siege weapon. The Israeli occupation, the US that had backed its offensive, and the EU which did nothing to stop it are conspiring to turn the reconstruction process into a means to produce a suitable "peace partner" while the Arab summit in Kuwait hopes to use it to bring about Palestinian reconciliation. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority (PA) government is urging all parties and others to look to it as the sole channel for administering the construction process on the grounds that it is the government formed by the Palestine Liberation Organisation that is recognised as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

'Myth of Exile': Justifying Slaughter in Gaza

Yet Zionist historians recognize that the story of Israel’s expulsion from the land by the Romans and its destined return, the central doctrine underlying the Israeli denial of the claims of the Palestinians, is but a myth.

This has come out in a current extraordinary controversy over a new work of history that has come out in Hebrew and will shortly be appearing in English. It is When and How Was the Jewish People Invented? by Shlomo Sand. (Resling, 358 pages, NIS 94.) After 19 weeks on the Israeli best-seller list, it is being translated into a dozen languages and will be published in the United States this year by Verso.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We already know that Moses (Akhenaten) plagiarized much of the old testament from earlier sources, such as the Epic of Gilgamesh. (As a side note it must be remembered that what we consider theft of ideas today was considered perfectly acceptable literary behavior in that age. It was the labor-intensive book which was considered the thing of value, rather than the stories it contained.)

Based on recent archaeological evidence, it appears that the story of the Exodus from Egypt actually came from the history of the Hyksos, rather than the Hebrews. But it makes for a good tale and Moses copied it along with his other "research."

Religious documents are just that. They are documents about stories and beliefs; told around campfires by primitive people who really did not know how the world worked or the universe came into being and so they just made it all u0p as an entertainment. Where possible they fitted in other stories they heard from before, some true, some fictional, and blended it together into a hodgepodge of folklore.

But it is not history. And it is not science. And killing other people over it all is just plain stupid.

Windows 7 Will Not Sway XP Users

Why such dire predictions for Windows 7 ability to convert Windows XP users? As I've said, Windows 7 will do very well but just not with XP users. Like our new President Barak Obama, Windows 7 is overburdened with expectations from many constituents, especially Windows XP users who've strongly resisted moving to Vista. Windows 7 has a lot of making up to do for the Windows Vista debacle and that clearly is Windows 7's aim. Yet our leaders were unprepared: in spite of strong indications that the crisis was breaking over our heads, only a prescient minority realized that our chickens were coming home to roost, while the "majority strove to get their share of the pie, be it one dollar or a billion, and did not want to notice the rising wave." As the Remnant looked on, Western elites were oblivious to their onrushing doom:

Israel Is Nobody's Friend

If civilization can survive the cynical path it's on, future historians will identify three great cons that were played out upon the world during this time; the fractional-reserve central-banking system, the war on terrorism and Israel. All three are equally dangerous to the future of mankind, are presented with equal deception, and emanate from the same source.

Much of the intentional confusion surrounding Israel is due to Israel presenting itself as a Jewish state - it's not Israel is a Zionist state. When people mention the word Jewish, they are usually mixing together three very distinct, different elements.

Why is America Attacking Islam?

Attacking Islam, Revisited
An Update of a Published Article On March 21, 1994

One intelligent question we are asked over and over again and must be answered: ?Why is America warring against one Islamic country after another? Is it because Arabs are sub-human, as Israelis claim, or are Muslims terrorists as the American press subtly suggests; or, is it an anti-Islamic agenda among our nation?s leaders that they do not share with us?

The Israel/US War in Gaza

Why War in Gaza
By Charles E. Carlson

What does Israel’s war against the Palestinian Arabs in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip have in common with America’s serial wars all over the globe, now centered on Afghanistan? The common denominator is that American money and weapons are used in every such war. Israel enjoys the approval and unconditional support of the American government. That means that no act that Israel does or has done will arouse serious objection from America’s leaders. In this Part V, we will examine why the War for Palestine is no closer to ending now than it was when it began, 54 years ago, and why the American government is financing the Israeli side in its brutal path.

Britain's transport network ground to a standstill last night as planes, cars and trains were paralysed by heavy snowfall.

Bolton: Iran defeated U.S.

Former U.S. envoy to the UN John Bolton says Washington has suffered a humiliating defeat in its drive against Iran’s nuclear activities.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Bolton then went on to claim that the US's mother dresses it funny, and that the US's dog is really ugly.

Iran's nuclear program is a power station. And the fuel rods to operate it. Both activities are guaranteed to Iran under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which both the US and Iran (but not Israel) have signed.

Nobody has offered any proof that Iran is doing anything other than building a power station.

Folks, this is a repeat of the lies used to start a war with Iraq, but since they cannot go ahead and claim that Iran actually has nuclear weapons without a demand of proof from a world made skeptical by the Iraq lies, so the claim is that Iran may have nuclear weapons in the future, a far more difficult claim to prove or (for the purposes of the war mongers) disprove.

But this idea of killing people because of what they MIGHT do in the future is the slipperiest of slopes. Can I shoot my neighbor today because there is a very real chance he might attack my wife next month? Can I shoot the teenagers hanging around my car rather than risk having them steal the vehicle at some point in the future? I don't like the way the guy who lives by the mailboxes looks at me; does that give me the moral right to set fire to his home to drive him out?

Follow the Money: Are Taxpayers on the Hook for Hundreds of Billions of Dollars for a Credit Crisis that Was Overblown?

One reason things didn’t fall apart when Congress didn’t immediately act as Paulson and Bernanke demanded, may be that there wasn’t any danger of a meltdown in the first place. So say three senior economists working at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, who in October examined the Fed’s own data, and concluded in an article titled Facts and Myths About the Financial Crisis of 2008 that the claims that interbank lending and commercial lending had seized up were simply not true.

Street braces for rush of corporate, economic data

Wall Street is bracing for yet more reminders this week that the economy is in rotten shape. Companies from networking-gear maker Cisco Systems Inc. to media giant Time Warner Inc. are set to report quarterly results, while a steady stream of economic readings is also due. The most recent numbers from companies and the government haven't been roundly awful, but most have. That is stirring fears the economy's slide isn't slowing.

Folding dealers shock car buyers with unpaid liens

The national wave of auto dealership closures has come crashing down on thousands of people who are on the hook for used-car loans that dealers were supposed to absolve.

When a car buyer still owes money on a vehicle he is trading in, the dealer promises to pay off the outstanding loan, then resells the vehicle. But as more dealers go out of business, some are sticking consumers with the bill. Lenders can then go after the previous owner who thought the debt was paid, or repossess the car from the new owner who assumed it came with clear title.

There is no way this scheme can possibly work. What it does stand a good chance of doing, however, is wreaking absolute havoc with the economy and exchange rates. A hapless thief drilled his way into a French bank at the weekend, but missed the safe and instead found himself in a lavatory where he was promptly arrested, a French newspaper reported on Sunday.

Alarms were triggered when he broke through the wall and police caught the man when they arrived on the scene.

Tax Burden Threatens GM Revamp

General Motors Corp. is reaching out to the U.S. Treasury Department and Congress in hopes of avoiding a multibillion-dollar tax burden that could be attached to a new restructuring plan the auto maker is working to create by mid-February, according to people familiar with the effort.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hamas 'would recognise' pre-1967 Israel

Hamas would recognise Israel if it withdraws to its pre-1967 borders, a French Jewish writer said this week after meeting the exiled leader of the Palestinian Islamist movement, Khaled Meshaal.

"He told me that Hamas was prepared to recognise Israel on the lines of June 4, 1967. He told me so several times," Marek Halter told AFP on Monday.

The date refers to Palestinian demands for an end to Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, captured in the 1967 war.

Halter's meeting with Meshaal took place in Damascus last month, on the eve of Israel's 22-day offensive, which left more than 1,330 Palestinians dead, according to Gaza medics, and vast swathes of the territory in ruins.

Ceasefires, Israeli-Style

Waging war while talking peace is customary Israeli practice. On January 19, Haaretz headlined: "Israel declares unilateral cease-fire. The security cabinet last night authorized a unilateral cease-fire (to take effect) at 2AM (Sunday morning), ending three weeks of intense fighting."

Declaration notwithstanding, nothing changed. Gaza remains occupied, under siege, and totally isolated. Borders are still closed. On January 28, The New York Times said "truckloads of humanitarian aid" are stuck in Egypt because of Israeli and Cairo restrictions. Little can get in, and attacks merely downshifted to a lower gear.

Americans' saving more, spending less

Americans are hunkering down and saving more. For a recession-battered economy, it couldn't be happening at a worse time.

'Myth of Exile': Justifying Slaughter in Gaza

Many have been appalled by the seemingly mindless orgy of destruction of families, children, homes, streets, shops and orchards in Gaza carried out by the Israeli armed forces. It left me wanting to know what has happened to make ordinary well-educated Israelis think that it is morally right to do this to their comparatively unarmed neighbors?

I perhaps stumbled on part of the answer in the bookstore at Tel Aviv airport on a recent visit to Israel. A map on display marked all the land from the Mediterranean to the Dead Sea as Israel: there was no West Bank, no Gaza Strip. A travel book I admired for its photos of a beautiful land also described it all as Israel. Jericho was in Israel it stated, although deep inside the West Bank.

The figures are significant because they show that the bailed-out banks, being kept afloat with U.S. taxpayer money, actively sought to hire foreign workers instead of American workers.
