The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to let a federal agency insure up to $300 billion in mortgages to help homeowners avert foreclosure, a day after the White House threatened to veto the measure.

Adding insult to injury: Bush says starving India eats too much...

May 4, 2008

The federal government was going to give taxpayers hundreds of dollars each, right? No one knew the exact amount, just the maximum possible for different income brackets and tax filing categories, right?

The purpose of this program was to encourage the general populace to go out and spend that money. This spending frenzy would stimulate the economy, the same economy that's been dropping like a rock. Right?

The only response I could come up with to this news was "Wrong!"

The government has looted us our entire lives, then drops a $600 scrap from their table and expects us to be grateful and forget all the previous wrongs?

I don't think so. - M. R.

Bush Has Spent Almost $1 Trillion On Wars... 70% Of Americans Say Things Are Going Badly...

As the US faces a very real prospect of utter collapse where millions may be may be made jobless and homeless, the GOP drags out a tired old lie that goes like this: 'be happy! Recession is goooood for you!'

His sharp tongued conclusion: "Hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars were unnecessarily spent, and worse yet, too many of our most precious military resource, our American soldiers, were unnecessarily wounded, maimed, and killed as a result. In my mind, this action by the Bush administration amounts to gross incompetence and dereliction of duty."
Not if Bush's duty was to the stock portfolios of the Vice President and those members of Congress invested in defense contractors. - M. R.

Bush Says Pain From Economy Defies Easy Fix...
"Shit, what do you people want? When you elected me, you knew I had bankrupted an oil company. You knew I was an alcoholic and a drug user. You knew I had even gone AWOL from a cushy National Guard job. And after all this, you give me eight years to mess with the US economy? I am sure I met all your expectations. You got a headache? Take two aspirins and don't call me in the morning." -- Official White Horse Souse - M. R.

Have you noticed how everybody hates Bush these days? Well, everybody except Uncle Dick, Godfather Rummy and Tony Snow. Oh, and let's not forget Rockey Vaccarella. And the arms dealers. But enthusiastic Bush supporters who aren't directly on the Bush-Cheney payroll are dwindling down to a sliver of a minority. These are the reality-challenged few that still expect rose petals and open arms to embrace us in Iraq, maybe, if we "stay the course," by the 22nd century. Basically, these few frightened, lock-step individuals, corporate representatives, Legionnaires and paid performers are the ones we see the President chatting up on TV.

You bet I'm bitter.

I've watched my country get hijacked by a group of self-serving incompetents who have little conscience about sending young men and women to die in an unnecessary war, while putting the bill on a credit card for the next generation.

A federal appeals court sought compromise Monday between a liberal group demanding the names of White House visitors and the Bush administration, which says releasing the names would erode the president's power. ADVERTISEMENT

If released, the documents would show how often prominent religious conservatives visited the White House and Vice President Dick Cheney's residence, allowing a glimpse into how much influence they exerted on government policy.

US President George Bush has said he believes another 9/11 attack on the United Sates should be considered a strong possibility and warned that such an attack could originate from Pakistan.

In an interview with America's ABC TV, Mr Bush said: "If another September 11 style attack is being planned, it probably is being plotted in Pakistan, and not Afghanistan."

President Bush acts like a teenager with a credit card and rich parents. He never sees the bill, so he just buys what he wants and charges it. The problem is that instead of rich parents, this president has debt-ridden taxpayers and a gutted military.

But Benedict's prayer service that evening with U.S. bishops at a famed Washington basilica preclude him from coming to the dinner, according to the White House. Catholic leaders will be there instead.

The key to understanding George W Bush is understanding his almost psychotic fear of failure and humiliation which causes him to avoid reality at all costs and drives his messianic behavior and agenda ~ much like it did Hitler's in the 1930's

Time would fail to tell of fish and people getting along, OB-GYN's, Foolin me once or twice, I forget and how much more easy it would if America was a dictatorship and the Bush family, not minding ,as long as..well you know. I even learned from the VP that if you shoot someone in the face, they have to apologize to you for upsetting you! Thank you, thank you, thank you for these lessons in life and government that I could never have leared anyplace or from anyone else! I am honored and not a bit concerned, however, about our future.

"There is only one politically serious explanation of this now-indisputable fact: powerful forces within the US military/intelligence complex wanted a terrorist incident on US soil in order to create the needed shift in public opinion required to embark on a long-planned campaign of military intervention in Central Asia and the Middle East. Whether or not they knew the scale of the impending attacks and what the precise targets would be, they acted in such a way as to block the arrest of known terrorist operatives and allow them to carry out their plot." --Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, Army intelligence officer

One of the most astonishing facts about the Bush presidency is simply that it continues to exist.

Only a combination of certain critical conditions have kept the man and his government from suffering the same fate as Mussolini or Ceaucesceu. A politically naive public, a neutered opposition, a compliant press, a Constitutionally-fixed term of office, a truckload of fear, a moderately sufficient economy and a remotely plausible victory in an unpopular war have all conspired to encourage a surly public to simply wait out the clock for the demise of the Creature from Crawford.

April 7, 2008

Two truths denied by nation and media: 1) Bush and Cheney are war criminals; 2) 911 was an inside job. In the meantime, unless something is done, Bush will have led this nation into another bloody, criminal war crime: an attack --possibly nuclear --upon Iran. It is the nature of evil that Bushco has compromised many otherwise good Americans now powerless to act because they have fallen into the spider's web.

April 6, 2008

"George Bush is a petty, vindictive creep. If he can't have his way, he immediately thinks of ways to annoy people. He knows his days are numbered in the Oval Office and that he has no legacy to contemplate and is aware people hate him. He knows that the Texas university that is planned to house his sacred library, where he wants to have an elegant office, has most of their faculty opposing his presence and he knows his approval rating is down almost to single figures.

April 4, 2008

Risen's book also confirms the most damning element of the British Cabinet Office memos popularly called the "Downing Street memos;" namely, that "the intelligence and the facts were being fixed around the policy." The result is that it is no longer credible to maintain that the failures in the Iraqi intelligence were the product of a broken intelligence community. The Bush administration deliberately fabricated the case against Iraq, lying to Congress and the American people along the way.

COUNTDOWN: Law Prof Turley - Bush Ordered WAR CRIMES!...

The first hint that President George W. Bush might be detached from the country's economic woes was in February, when he conceded that he had not heard about predictions that gasoline could soon cost $4 a gallon.

Then Bush went to Wall Street to warn against "massive government intervention in the housing markets," two days before his administration helped broker the takeover of the investment bank Bear Stearns.

"Hey. I'm working. And so are most of my friends!" -- Official White Horse Souse - M. R.

April 3, 2008

In march 2008 alone, a considerable amount of evidence has emerged suggesting that the likudnik dominated bush mafia is actively working towards launching a war against iran: to such an extent that some commentators suspect it might be willing to fabricate an incident leading to such a war. And yet the evidence against bush being able to launch such a war is also stacking up.

Nato has confirmed it will not yet offer membership to Georgia or Ukraine after the 26-member alliance was split amid strong objections from Russia.
Another political defeat for Bush. - M. R.

Script asks: 'How did an alcoholic bum become most powerful leader in world?'

April 2, 2008

The current situation has nothing to do with the well-being of ordinary Russian people -- for which neither Putin nor the NATOniks show any great concern -- or with the "security" of former Soviet states, or the security of the United States, for that matter. It has to do with the rampant lust of our elites for unearned riches and unrestrained power. And unfortunately, that dawg does hunt -- and keeps on hunting, stalking and devouring prey, year after year, decade after decade.

If at first you don't succeed, try a scroll!...

The invasion of Iraq may be the greatest self-inflicted blunder in the history of U.S. foreign policy. The case for war rested on false information, dubious assumptions and mendacious analysis. Neoconservatives inside and outside the Bush administration persuaded the president, vice president, and the American people that Saddam was an imminent threat, that war would be easy and pay for itself, and that ousting him would bring far-reaching benefits to the region. They were wrong on all counts, and their responsibility for this catastrophe should not be forgotten.

The Carlyle Group, one of the world's largest private equity funds, may soon acquire the $2 billion government contracting business of consulting giant Booz Allen Hamilton, one of the biggest suppliers of technology and personnel to the U.S. government's spy agencies. Carlyle manages more than $75 billion in assets and has bought and sold a long string of military contractors since the early 1990s. But in recent years it has significantly reduced its investments in that industry. If it goes ahead with the widely reported plan to buy Booz Allen, it will re-emerge as the owner of one of America's largest private intelligence armies.

SADDAM HANGED FOR BUSH'S CRIMES...

According to the Wall Street Journal, the White House is proposing a six billion dollar secretive system that would monitor Internet traffic and collect personal data.

The proposal from President George Bush would be designed to protect US communications networks from attacks by terrorists, spies and hackers but is stirring controversy and could prove a hard sell to Congress and the American public amid divisiveness about other Government-run surveillance programs.

Hey Bush, monitor THIS! - M. R.

Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives. US Federal Bureau of Investigation

Read the sentence carefully. You didn't hear it on any corporate media newscast since 9/11. It's the official US FBI definition of terrorism. In its official definition, the FBI does not limit terrorism to stateless individuals or groups. In its official definition, the FBI does not suggest that terrorism cannot be perpetrated by the leader of a nation state. But even more amazing is that the official FBI definition of terrorism describes exactly what George Bush did in the aftermath of the attacks of 9/11!

On this fifth anniversary of Iraq invasion, George Bush said, "Because we acted, the world is better and the United States of America is safer." With a million dead Iraqis, more than 30,000 dead and wounded American soldiers, the world now teeming with a new breed of America haters and more than 3 trillion dollars blown to achieve all that, the US president sits atop an economically crumbling America and happily crows his mantra. George W. Bush indeed seems far removed from reality.

Watching George W. Bush in operation these last couple of weeks is like having an out-of-body experience. On acid. During a nightmare. In a different galaxy.

As he presides over the latest disaster of his administration (No, it's not a terrorist attack - that was 2001! No, it's not a catastrophic war - that was 2003! No, it's not a drowning city - that was 2005! This one is an economic meltdown, ladies and gentlemen!) bringing to it the same blithe disengagement with which he's attended the previous ones, you cannot but stop and gaze in stark comedic awe, realizing that the most powerful polity that ever existed on the planet twice picked this imbecilic buffoon as its leader, from among 300 million other choices.

Actually, no we didn't. - M. R.

The White House on Friday sought to back pedal on comments by President George W. Bush accusing Iran of having said it was seeking a nuclear bomb.

Historians might argue over ranking, but there's no doubt he has been an unmitigated disaster

March 21, 2008

As our roads crumble beneath our wheels, and our schools starve for cash for books and supplies, we need to look at how Bush gambled and lost New Orleans and wonder just how wide spread the risk is? Has Bush bet other cities on his war? Has he bet the entire nation?

Is there a gambler's ruin waiting for all of us?

I decided to relink this article because of the flooding we are seeing in the midwest. We are hearing stories of levees failing, flood control systems that are not working, and the whole disaster is starting to take on a Katrina-esque patina of unpreparedness at the governmental levels. - M. R.

Experts on Iran and nuclear proliferation said the president's statement was wrong. "That's as uninformed as [Sen. John] McCain's statement that Iran is training al-Qaeda. Iran has never said it wanted a nuclear weapon for any reason. It's just not true. It's a little troubling that the president and the leading Republican candidate are both so wrong about Iran," said Joseph Cirincione, president of Ploughshares Fund, a global security foundation.

Others said it is unclear whether the president believes what he said or was deliberately distorting Iran's position.

It's perfectly clear to me! - M. R.

FLASHBACK: Bush on the Start of the Iraq War: "I feel good!"...
It's five years later. Still feel good, Dubya? - M. R.

Today, five years exactly from that day, "Shock & Awe" has failed. We are the most powerful nation on the earth, militarily, and despite the fact that this 'war' will cost us three trillion dollars so far: we have not prevailed. Bush spoke to the nation today from deep inside the War Department, and proclaimed our success: But when America wins a war, we hold ticker-tape parades down Fifth Avenue in New York City-we do not need to have 'victory' explained to us by a third rate cheerleader who does not know one end of a weapon from the other. The Decider knows nothing about the need for winning anything beyond our bombs our torture, our own infliction of terror upon the innocent that we dispense so freely, with every bullet that is fired in fear.

March 18, 2008

John Conyers just finshed up a panel with John Cole and Christy Hardin Smith at Take Back America with words that were heartening to everyone made just a wee bit uneasy by the recent retirement of Admiral Fallon and the implications it might have for war with Iran:

"If Bush Goes Into Iran, He Should Be Impeached," said Conyers.

I refuse to give total credit to Bush himself for his actions. The man does not have the intelligence, insight or experience to personally inflict all the damage done by his administration. However, for the sake of simplicity, I will refer to George Bush as the major culprit involved in the crimes against the nation and the world.. In fact, responsibility lies with the entire cadre of neocons and delusional managers who placed a sociopath in the White House and allowed him to play a role he was ill equipped to handle.

Five years, George. Five ugly, deadly, bloody years. This is quite an anniversary. If you wait a day or two, you'll be able to celebrate the 4,000th US military death as well. Break out the champagne.

The cost of faltering American leadership is growing as quickly as you can say Bear Stearns.

Others Americans are afraid that this is just subterfuge. That the real intent of this administration is to suppress decent, control the masses and some even fear it is designed by Bush to delay the elections in the fall. Invade Iran imprison many Americans and designed for him to remain President for as long as he can.

Bush Jokes about WMD...
We're not laughing. - M. R.

As we enter the eighth year of the Bush-Cheney administration, I have belatedly and painfully concluded that the only honorable course for me is to urge the impeachment of the president and the vice president.
... followed by jail.

If we fail to punish this President for having lied us all into a war of conquest, then we send a message to all future presidents that it is permissible for them to lie us into wars of conquest. If, by our inaction, we send such a message of consent, then we bear the responsibility for the millions who will die in such wars. Their blood yet to be spilled stains us.

It is up to We The People to take action. Congress has abandoned their responsibilities under the Constitution. Congress is no more capable of holding King George to account than Parliament was of holding King Charles I to account. And the American people are no more willing to sit still for it than the British were. - M. R.

In testimony to a House committee yesterday, GAO general counsel Gary L. Kepplinger announced the results of another study, this one of provisions in the 2008 defense authorization, which found more of the same. The GAO examined how 21 agencies executed 29 different provisions of the law that Bush asserted his right not to follow -- and found that in nine cases "the agencies had not executed the provisions as written."

According to the paper left behind by the consul general, he wanted to pressure Abu Mazen to take action that would annul the outcome of the elections that had catapulted Hamas to power. The author of the article, David Rose, reminds his readers that President George W. Bush had pressed for the elections to be held, contrary to the advice of several experts, who warned that Hamas would emerge from them strengthened. But Bush wanted democracy. Now he effectively wanted Abu Mazen to cancel the elections in retrospect.

How the Bush Administration Stopped the States From Stepping In to Help Consumers

George Bush’s grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany. The Guardian has seen evidence that shows Bush was the director of the New York-based Union Banking Corporation (UBC) that represented Thyssen's US interests and he continued to work for the bank after America entered the war.

So it is no surprise that in one of Bush's last acts of relevance, he once again played the fear card. While he has failed in spreading democracy, stemming global terrorism, and leaving the country better off than when he took power, he did achieve one thing: successfully perpetuating fear for political gain.

Sadly, it may be one of the only achievements of his presidency.

On The Effects of the Bush Bomb 7 Years Later...

January 30, 2008

Here's one thing everyone should be able to agree upon from George Bush's State of the Union address: "We have unfinished business before us."

Apart from that, it's a little difficult to credit much of what he said.

The part where Bush really lost me (besides "Zimbaway") is where he called for his tax cuts for the rich to be made permanent. It's those tax cuts which have put the government in the fiscal toilet.

What is the definition of 'insanity' again? - M. R.

"The State of the Union is strong", according to President George W Bush but many would disagree with that viewpoint. RICHARD NEVILLE has edited Bush's speech to improve clarity.

January 29, 2008

The President in his 2008 State of the Union address gives us the usual propaganda and rhetoric about Iran, which is exactly the same propaganda and rhetoric he gave us about Iraq, and he has made it abundantly clear that he will not hesitate “to confront those who threaten our troops”, adding that, “we will stand by our allies, and we will defend our vital interests in the Persian Gulf.”

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert once again cynically taints and insults the memory of those European Jews that perished under the Nazis by invoking the Holocaust for purely modern political motives. To use the memory of the Holocaust as part of a propaganda campaign whose aim is to bring about a change in government of a sovereign nation just so that Israel can create a Greater Israel in the same way as the Nazis attempted to create a Greater Germany is the ultimate Chutzpah and insult that deserves nothing but the contempt of all of the peoples of the world and especially of those survivors, descendants of survivors, and descendants of those that perished.

When pointlessness is interrupted almost 70 times by even more pointless and raucous applause, I find myself cursing the Founders for constitutionally requiring the silly thing.

Here’s your question, class:

In his State of the Union, the President asked Congress for $300 million for poor kids in the inner city. As there are, officially, 15 million children in America living in poverty, how much is that per child? Correct! $20.

January 28, 2008

President George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Nearly five years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, an exhaustive examination of the record shows that the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.

Yes, Bush just said he will "get around to" invading Iran and starting WW3. - M. R.

George Bush, The Pseudo-Conservative...

A Limp Dick is an expression that I learned while serving in the Army cavalry back in the 1980s, it is generally applied to someone that is seen as “impotent,” in daily life, a non force, or someone that isn’t taken seriously by others, thus the application to our squirrelly President.

Bush departs Mideast with few apparent gains, experts say...
... but with plenty of marching orders from Olmert. - M. R.

Sorry, but there is no other way to describe George Dubya Bush…. a man that literally took his foot out of his mouth during his recent trip to the Middle East…. and shot it!

He said a provision in the bill which would allow victims of terrorism to be awarded compensation from frozen foreign assets of "state sponsors of terror", could have crippled the fledgling Iraqi government with billions of U.S. dollars in liability.
So.... Bush cares about victims of terror only so long as they are useful on the evening news. After that, well, they get the same treatment as veterans no longer able to fight Bush's wars for him. - M. R.

Exiled Hamas leader says Bush 'incited the Zionists' to raid Gaza...

"Gimme a 'G'! Gimme an 'A'! Gimme a 'Z'!" - M. R.

President George Bush has a few months left in office. Many analysts have believed for some time now that before he retires from that position, he will have orchestrated an attack either against Syria or Iran. Increasingly, it seems that his fixation is with Iran. After much was made by the Bush administration about Iran's covert nuclear program, recently there was acknowledgment that many of those fears may have been over-exaggerated or even misplaced. Yet no one from the administration was taken to task for spreading such sinister misinformation. More disturbingly, there was no substantive criticism from the American media either.

Bush Quips He Might Stay in Power...
Remember when he quipped about dictatorship? - M. R.

“Bush’s remarks show his frustration and failure in the last months of his presidency. Since he has failed to convince Arab and Muslim countries to support the Zionist regime, he is putting the blame on others,” Hosseini argued.

I imagine that Bush has a clock on his desk and all of the numbers are five. A statement on the clock reads, “No Drinking before 5.” Maybe that clock is in his head and not on his desk. There’s a lot more room for the clock inside his head.

(Ahem)

So, here we have a President who totally abandons the work product of all 16 (taxpayer funded) intelligence agencies and has his own "opinion" which just happens to exactly match that of the foreign government that spies on America, buys and blackmails the Congress, repeatedly and stages false-flag attacks on us to trick us into destroying their enemies.

You have a problem with that? - M. R.

Now that Dubya has solved all of the problems facing the Israeli and Palestinian people, he can concentrate on solutions to the economic crisis facing the American people….
So ... the American people are in second place behind Israel as far as Dubya is concerned? - M. R.

January 11, 2008

ou might ask what I see as humorous about this situation…. just think about it, a man who has backed EVERY evil move made by Israel since he took over the reins as President suggesting to another man whose hands are still dripping with the blood of the Palestinian people, cheered on by his hand picked ‘representative’ of those very people…. calling for an end to the occupation…

The president's reflex to justify his right to use torture, even as he insists "we don't torture," illuminates how his psychology works and provides a glimpse into its dark potential.
History has shown that the teller of white lies will lose to the teller of black lies, who loses to the thief, who loses to the blackmailer, who loses to the murderer, who loses to the drug lord, who loses to the genocidal tyrant.

The important question in these dark times is therefore not what our government is capable of, but what is our government NOT capable of? - M. R.

January 5, 2008

Recent experience suggests that we should be very worried that President George W. Bush is coming to the Middle East next week to promote peace. The last time he made such a journey, in June 2003, what ensued was an accelerated cycle of violence and ideological conflict that sees most of the Middle East today wracked by warfare, routine terrorism, and intense political confrontation, threats, and stress.

For a while, it looked like he just might pull it off -- that he would indeed keep enough assorted fireballs in the air, that he would whack a sufficient number of moles, that he would weigh down the power-kegs just long enough to dump them, yet unexploded, on someone else.

When it comes to surveillance and the treatment of classified information, President Bush is making up the rules as he goes along.

... "An executive order cannot limit a president. There is no constitutional requirement for a president to issue a new executive order whenever he wishes to depart from the terms of a previous executive order. Rather than violate an executive order, the president has instead modified or waived it."

Or, as the senator explained in his own words, that means the president believes: "I don't have to follow my own rules, and I don't have to tell you when I'm breaking them."

This nation is at one of the most perilous and sensitive junctures in its history: either the true rule of law prevails, or the rule of men prevails.

Outraged, Senator Joseph Biden accused the President of “playing the American people for fools.” Everyone knows, Biden said, that “in Iraq, just as we did in Vietnam, we are clinging to a central government that does not and will not enjoy the support of the people” and is therefore doomed. The historian Robert Dallek declared that Bush’s comparison “boggles the mind,” and that the true comparison worked the other way around: even though “we dropped more bombs on Vietnam than we did in all of World War II in every theater, we couldn’t work our will” to prevent North Vietnam’s triumph over its southern neighbor—any more, presumably, than we can “work our will” in Iraq.

For many months, the Bush-Cheney administration and its Neocon allies in Congress and in the media have been inching toward a fresh new war against Iran, possibly using nuclear weapons, under the same flimsy pretext that it had used, in 2003, to launch an illegal war of aggression against Iraq. The military gear had been positioned, with three full armadas in or around the Gulf of Hormuz, and the propaganda machine was running full time to persuade the American people that a state of perpetual war was in their interests.

But something happened on the road to war. On December 3, Michael McConnell, Director of the National Intelligence Council, dropped a political bomb. His office—in close collaboration with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the fifteen other U.S. Intelligence agencies, regrouped under the umbrella of the United States Intelligence Community (IC)—issued a devastating report about the veracity of the claims made for months by the Administration that Iran was actively engaged in developing a nuclear arms program.

Since 1948, historians and lay folk have ranked US Presidents. At various times, Nixon and Andrew Johnson have topped the list. Now, the game is over. The decision is in. The very worst President in American history is George W. Bush. Alone among "worst" Presidents, Bush has tried to overthrow and subvert the government of our Constitution and replace it with a dictatorship in which both courts and legislature --if either are to exist at all --are expected merely to kowtow to his wishes.

Olberman is the reincarnation of Edward R. Murrow. - M. R.

December 8, 2007

The unasked question is: What is the real reason the Bush Regime is so determined to attack Iran? We now know for certain that the reason has nothing whatsoever to do with Iranian nukes any more than the US invasion of Iraq had to do with Iraqi nukes. What is the real reason that is driving the Bush Regime to seek to overthrow with military invasions the only Middle Eastern states that are not US puppets or dependents?

December 7, 2007

Judging from President George W. Bush’s words and body language he is far from giving up on ways to “justify” attacking Iran’s nuclear program—weapons-related or not. He appears convinced he must honor the pledge he has made to Israel’s current leaders to eliminate what they have called an “existential threat” to Israel.

I don’t know if g.w.b. is going to fade gracefully away to Crawford. It hasn’t happened yet and the people who orchestrated all of the nasty shit of the last seven years that they blamed on other people are certainly not done yet either. But in the meantime the cosmeticians are at work. The latest cheek rouging is this Preventative Foreclosure thing; you know… another bailout of the industry designed to look like it’s going to help people. It’s not going to help the most desperate; those in arrears of payments, those who’ve lost their house and those now living with relatives or in cardboard boxes. That’s not the American way at this time. But it looks good in the headline and strange in the small print.

Norman Podhoretz, widely reputed to be the “godfather” of neoconservatism, has been one of the most aggressive hawks clamoring for war with Iran. Podhoretz laid out the “The Case For Bombing Iran” in a June cover story in the right-wing Commentary Magazine. He insisted that the Iranians were very close to developing a nuclear weapon:

When the Bush administration began enforcing a controversial policy banning photographs of military caskets returning from Iraq, the move provoked outrage -- and now, a film -- from actor John Cusack, who calls the media ban "one of the most cowardly political acts" of his lifetime.

The White House statement released by Dana Perino tonight also states McConnell told Bush “the new information might cause the intelligence community to change its assessment of Iran’s covert nuclear program.”
