RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS Archives May 5, 2008Sen. Hillary Clinton's mailing attacking Sen. Barack Obama's record on guns appears to include a striking visual gaffe: The image of the gun pictured on the face of the mailing is reversed, making it a nonexistent left-handed model of the Mauser 66 rifle.

April 24, 2008All gun owners are familiar with the 17th century maxim, "Keep your powder dry." But if we expect to be gun owners in the 21st century, we have to update that to read, "Keep your powder--and all the rest of your ammunition--at all." That's because politicians who want to ban guns, but who don't have the votes in Congress and state legislatures, are trying to achieve the same effect by banning the manufacture, importation, sale and possession of as much ammunition as possible, and severely restricting the rest.

April 19, 2008And if you're wondering who to hit, may I make a humble suggestion? The first and most important target is the media. If you leave them alone they will ensure you have no support from the populace. Ho Chi Minh was right - without the people's support you will never succeed. Blow up the towers, cut the cables, win the support of your community. Your government must fear you. And you must not fear them.
April 16, 2008Under the new law, businesses cannot prohibit employees or customers from keeping a legally owned gun locked inside their cars, as long as the owner has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
April 15, 2008As the nation's capital and other cities prepared for Mother's Day demonstrations favoring stricter gun control laws, President Clinton said the events on Sunday would show that the gun lobby ''is no match for America's moms.''
The Down-Side of Gun Control
Advocates cannot see any harm in gun control, but it has a nasty
downside. Its victims number in the tens of millions. Its downside is
genocide: the mass-murder of civilians on account of religion,
language, or political views. Since 1900, at least seven major
genocides have occurred worldwide involving 50-60 million victims (see
table).

Most Florida residents would be allowed to take guns to work under a measure passed by Florida lawmakers on Wednesday.
The bill, allowing workers to keep guns in their cars for self-protection, was approved by the Florida Senate by a vote of 26-13. It now goes to Republican Gov. Charlie Crist to sign into law. April 1, 2008Looks like the Supreme Court is finally ready to recognize the Second Amendment as a real part of the Bill of Rights, and that D.C.'s ban is in big trouble.
This town was locked down tight for several days and no one was allowed in or out. The only people in that town during this time were Sheriffs Officers, Kansas Highway Patrol Officers, ATF, FEMA, National Guard, Police Officers from surrounding areas and some volunteers from Ft. Riley, generally speaking, government officials. Authorities claim no one else was there or could have gotten in or out. Interestingly enough, I have been told repeatedly by all sources that the media was allowed to roam freely without escorts through Greensburg. Shall we ask why residents were not allowed to stay on their own property but media was allowed unfettered access?
Many guns and other valuables such as jewelry have gone permanently missing and have never been recovered. There were some houses that were not destroyed and were in tact and habitable. Those folks did not want to leave but were forced to do so. When they returned they found their houses had been broken in to and all of their guns missing. One gentleman reports that when he went to claim his guns, taken from his secure home, they were returned to him in damaged condition. They were not damaged by the tornado. They were locked up in his home and illegally confiscated. So how do we suppose that damage occurred? March 26, 2008In a "move that surprised some observers," the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday, attorney Alan Gura, appearing before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of the federal guard who sued the District of Columbia in 2003, claiming he feels unsafe because he's not allowed to keep his guns at home, "appeared to concede large chunks of his argument, moving away from an absolutist position on gun rights."
Was it a failure of nerve under pressure, or did somebody get to this guy? March 25, 2008Police are asking residents to submit to voluntary searches in exchange for amnesty under the District's gun ban. They passed out fliers requesting cooperation on Monday.
March 24, 2008There is a very strange notion implicit in these comments: that our rights derive from 9 old men and women on the Court. Thus if we get the wrong ones in there, we are doomed. Since the composition of the Court depends on who is President, this in turn implies that our rights really derive from the President.
This is even stranger than the notion that our right to bear arms comes from the 2nd Amendment itself. March 21, 2008In the case where a citizen mistakenly (and allegedly) shot through his door at a raiding police officer, the citizen is facing a murder charge; in the case where a raiding police officer mistakenly shot through a door and killed a citizen, there were no criminal charges.
Over the last quarter century, we've seen an astonishing rise in paramilitary police tactics by police departments across America. Peter Kraksa, professor of criminology at the University of Eastern Kentucky, ran a 20-year survey of SWAT team deployments and determined that they have increased 1,500 percent since the early 1980s--mostly to serve nonviolent drug warrants. This is dangerous, senseless overkill. The margin of error is too thin, and the potential for tragedy too high to use these tactics unless they are in response to an already violent situation (think bank robberies, school shootings or hostage-takings). Breaking down doors to bust drug offenders creates violent situations; it doesn't defuse them. March 20, 2008A woman was asking a 911 dispatcher for help when her pleas were interrupted by gunshots, then silence. She was shot to death.
The woman told the dispatcher someone was trying to break into her home in upscale West Covina, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Dan Rosenberg said. "Deputies heard gunshots followed by silence and an open phone line," he said. Instead of 911, try .357! - M. R.

Firearms industry should bear financial liability for homicides involving handguns...
As expected, the gun-grabbers are not going to sit still for the Supreme Court's validation of the Second Amendment. So, they trot out this already-discredited idea in order to sue gun-makers out of existence.
But consider... are automobile manufacturers liable for deaths caused by criminal use of cars? How about baseball bat makers? People get murdered with baseball bats all the time. Is it appropriate to sue baseball bat makers for the criminal uses bats are put to? Doctors kill more people through mistakes than die from guns. Shall we sue the makers of medical equipment for their part in this? - M. R. Americans have a right to own guns, Supreme Court justices declared Tuesday in a historic and lively debate that could lead to the most significant interpretation of the Second Amendment since its ratification two centuries ago.
When the Second Amendment was created, the arms in question reserved to the people were military arms. The Second Amendment did not consider the question of hunting weapons, for hunting was indispensable to survival in the early colonies. But the battles of Lexington and Concord had shown that government, when it becomes oppressive, seeks to remove military arms from the people, a fact well understood by the Minutemen.
Under US law, the militia is all able-bodied men and women able to carry arms and between the ages of 18 and 45. It is acknowledged in the law that there is an "Unorganized militia", meaning all citizens able to bear arms but not under the direct control of US authority. This is a hold-over from the days of the Minutemen when it was understood that citizens would exercise their own discretion in deciding when to shoot the redcoats. The common motto was, "Do not wait for orders, but grab thy musket and ride towards the sound of gunfire!" All tyrants seek to disarm their own people, and it is not mere coincidence that every genocide since the start of the 20th century has been preceded by attempts to disarm the population being targeted. Guns are the birthright of free people, because guns give free people the right to say "no" to a dictator. That is the very core of the reason the 2nd Amendment was given to us,to give us the ability to say "no', because there is no freedom without the freedom to say "no." "God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.... And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.... The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson, in letter to William S. Smith, 1787 "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms. . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." -- Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764 "[I]f circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their rights and those of their fellow citizens." -- The Federalist, No. 29 - Alexander Hamilton "[A]rms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. . . Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them." -- Thoughts On Defensive War, 1775 - Thomas Paine - M. R. A majority of the Supreme Court indicated a readiness yesterday to settle decades of constitutional debate over the meaning of the Second Amendment by declaring that it provides an individual right to own a gun for self-defense.
Okay, I need something big enough to defend against the BATF when they kick down the wrong door (as they have a history of doing) and raid my place by mistake. - M. R.
March 18, 2008The Supreme Court justices, hearing a historic argument on the meaning of the 2nd Amendment, signaled they are likely to strike down a handgun ban in the District of Columbia and rule that homeowners have a right to keep a gun for self-defense.
Get ready for a new gun massacre now that the gun-grabbers need it! - M. R.
It is not a coincidence that a black market in D.C. handguns has been going on for decades and that the handgun ban in D.C. has been in effect for 32 years. The handgun ban itself gives rise to a black market in handguns, just as making drugs illegal has given rise to a black market in drugs.
New Bill to Register Ammunition...
This law simply forces a new and costly product on us all to make a crony rich, creates a new bureaucracy as a sinecure for more cronies, and all on the backs of the law abiding citizen.
Real criminals will simply steal ammunition at the same time they steal their guns. - M. R. March 17, 2008My wife and I visited our local Gun shop over the weekend to purchase a hand gun for her. You couldn't believe how many people were in this store buying fireamrs! I shop regularly at this store for cheap ammunition to shoot at the range, so I am familiar with the traffic. This place was jammed. You could hardly get around each other at the counters and down the aisles. The tension was thick. People seemed tense. I was hyped up on coffee and feeling honery so I loudly proclaimed, "Everyone here must be worried about the Economy and riots in the streets!" I thought I was going to get kicked out. But everyone sighed in agreement; some even clapping their hands.
The local hardware stores are running out of tar and rope, and the local bedding stores are out of feather pillows.
I am sure this means something, but I cannot imagine what! - M. R. March 12, 2008The Playboy interview ended with Bellesiles' challenge to the powerful gun lobby: "As for the NRA [National Rifle Association], when anyone talks about the history of guns in America, they're going to have to give me evidence -- facts, not folktales." Three months later, despite growing skepticism, Arming America was awarded Columbia University's prestigious Bancroft Prize for the best work of American history published in 2000. It seemed the question of what was fact, what fiction, had been settled.
Bellesiles had flung his challenge at a political organization, but unfortunately for him it was the scholarly community that picked it up. The evidence he had presented for his groundbreaking theory was investigated first by experts from a range of disciplines and political viewpoints; then by a special symposium in a learned journal; and finally, as a result of the disturbing findings, by the professor's university and an outside panel of scholars that it appointed. The results are now in: Bellesiles' arguments are based on wholesale misuse of evidence and, in some cases, no evidence at all. The "invented tradition" is fact, the professor's version a folk tale. Whatever the court decides, no one expects them to end gun control any more than the First Amendment's "congress shall make no laws" has prevented the passage of campaign finance regulations. The decision is likely to be limited to just whether a ban "infringed" on "the right of the people to keep and bear arms."

On a more serious note. if you look closely at the trigger guard you will see that it moves as a unit, with a special extension the real trigger. The problem at Virginia Tech was not that there were guns on campus — only the campus police and gunman were armed — but that it was a “gun-free zone.” As a result, there were not enough people carrying guns to neutralize the gunman once he began his rampage. He should have been outgunned after his first shots. To a criminal or deranged person bent on killing, a gun-free zone is a free-fire zone. As is obvious from all such incidents, the police arrive too late to prevent multiple killings.

February 18, 2008 Let's get two things straight.
1. Banning guns does not reduce crime. Crime goes UP when the law abiding citizen is disarmed. 2. The Second amendment is not about hunting and it's not about target shooting. It's about giving the government good reason to leave the citizen alone. Both the Zionist control of the media and the media bias against the citizen's right to keep and bear arms are generally recognized but seldom discussed publicly, for fear of the charge of "anti-Semitism." The names of the principal anti-Second Amendment legislators -- Feinstein, Metzenbaum, Schumer -- tell part of the story, and the anti-gun lobbying organizations, of which the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith -- the ADL -- is the most powerful, tell the rest.
The question is not whether private property owners have a right to bar firearms on their property -- they do.
Rather, the first question here is whether our government agencies are making it fully clear to the managers of buildings otherwise open to the public -- such as Clark County's courthouses and public libraries -- that they will not be shielded from the financial repercussions should employees or customers die under circumstances where they could otherwise have defended themselves and others with their own firearms. February 17, 2008Now that a mental case has accomplished yet another dastardly deed at a gun-free zone on an American campus, the corporate media is pulling out all the stops and calling for “gun control,” that is to say the squashing of the Second Amendment.

February 14, 2008Gun-Grabbing gets absurd...
Help Pass the Ammunition Accountability Act...
HB 2833 requires all ammunition manufacturers to encode a unique serial number on the base of every bullet and on the inside of every cartridge. The bullet serial number and cartridge casing serial number would have to be identical.
This means two things. Home reloading will become illegal, and the price of manufactured ammunition will double. If they can;t grab the guns, they will make the ammo hard to get. - M. R. February 9, 2008As Boston police prepare to go into some of the city's most dangerous neighborhoods, knock on doors of private houses, and ask if they can search for illegal guns without a warrant, officials are trying to pitch the idea of the plan as friendly cooperation to residents who still see it as a threatening intrusion.

January 30, 2008Despite fervent support from families of those killed in the Virginia Tech massacre, a bill that would have required background checks of buyers at gun shows in Virginia has been defeated in a State Senate committee.
The families of those killed in the Virginia Tech massacre need to remember that the campus was a gun-free zone, which reinforces the idea that people of ill intent do not obey the laws. Oddly enough, Virginia Tech sold the gun ban on their campus with the promise that it made the students safer. It did not; it made them defenseless, which is not the same thing.
The families of those killed in the Virginia Tech massacre need to remember that another mass shooting on another Virgina campus a couple years earlier ended with a different outcome when students armed with legally owned guns stopped the shooter. - M. R. January 21, 2008A 73-year-old West Side store owner foiled a robbery Wednesday evening when he pulled out a 9 mm handgun and shot the wouldbe bandit.

January 16, 2008A lot of Americans who believe in the right to own guns were very disappointed this weekend. On Friday, the Bush administration’s Justice Department entered into the fray over the District of Columbia’s 1976 handgun ban by filing a brief to the Supreme Court that effectively supports the ban. The administration pays lip service to the notion that the Second Amendment protects gun ownership as an “individual right,” but their brief leaves the term essentially meaningless.
January 15, 2008Since "unrestricted" private ownership of guns clearly threatens the public safety, the 2nd Amendment can be interpreted to allow a variety of gun restrictions, according to the Bush administration.
More people have died from police tasers than from AK-47s in the US.
More crimes are prevented by private citizens with legally owned firearms than by the police. The government wants to disarm the American people because they know they have pushed the nation to the brink of revolt. As a side note, President Bush's grandfather's German business partner, Adolf, used 'public safety' as his excuse to disarm the German people. Once deprived of their arms, the German people had no way to stop Hitler from leading them into disaster. - M. R. December 21, 2007ARGUMENT: The Veterans Disarmament Act creates new avenues for
prohibited persons to seek restoration of their gun rights.
ANSWER: What the bill does is to lock in -- statutorily -- huge numbers of additional law-abiding Americans who will now be denied the right to own a firearm. And then it "graciously" allows these newly disarmed Americans to spend tens of thousands of dollars for a long-shot chance to regain the gun rights this very bill takes away from them. Opponents have dubbed the bill, the "veterans disarmament act" as it will place any veteran who has ever been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on the federal gun ban list.
December 17, 2007A Google news search using the phrase "Omaha Mall Shooting" finds an incredible 2,794 news stories worldwide for the last day. From India and Taiwan to Britain and Austria, there are probably few people in the world who haven’t heard about this tragedy.
But despite the massive news coverage, none of the media coverage, at least by 10 a.m. Thursday, mentioned this central fact: Yet another attack occurred in a gun-free zone. Cops raiding wrong home get shot...
Good. - M. R.
Over the years there has been a mass indoctrination to the evils of guns, which has resulted in the systematic psychological disarmament of the American people. With less armed law-abiding citizens and more gun-free zones, the result has been more helpless victims. It has also demonstrated that we cannot rely on government to protect us from criminals. Most crime we are facing will not be solved by further gun control legislation. Furthermore tyrants like Stalin, Hitler, and Mao all sought to disarm their own citizens in order to control them and ensure their own power. Many genocide victims were deprived of the necessary means to adequately defend themselves. A clear violation of the Second Amendment took place after Hurricane Katrina, when authorities engaged in gun confiscation. In many cases, it was these same guns that kept many individuals, families, and property safe from criminals and thugs when there was no police presence.
December 14, 2007Most of us are aware that the heroic actions of a brave woman at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado a few days ago saved the lives of perhaps scores, or even hundreds, of people. However, her bravery would not have counted for much had she not been armed.
There is one very good reason to own a gun right now. As the economy collapses, there will arise leaders who will, through some contorted logic and an imposed sense of community obligation, decide that the costs of the current melt-down should be passed onto the ordinary citizens, just as the S&L melt-down of the 1980s was ultimately paid for by the taxpayers who had been smart enough to stay out of the mess in the first place. Even now we are seeing banks hit by the sub-prime disaster seeking ways to pass those losses into their customers who did not even partake of the risky investments in the first place.
As the economy goes into full blown Chernobyl, expect the government to start to seize hard assets like gold and silver, "for the good of the nation." Despite the pretense of law, this will be looting of the population, plain and simple, and the people are morally entitled to defend themselves from such uniformed criminals. - M. R. Colorado's right-to-carry law — which USA TODAY fiercely opposed as "an old West remedy" — empowered volunteer security guard Jeanne Assam to stop a mass murderer inside her crowded church.
December 11, 2007"I hope this represents a change in the way we think about gun-free zones," said Larry Pratt of the Gun Owners of America, "because heretofore, we've had these kinds of bad guys attacking schools and churches and they don't meet any armed resistance ... I think we have to get it through our heads: gun-free zones are criminal-friendly zones."
December 10, 2007Here we go again. Someone tell me why, with nearly 3,000 articles written worldwide within 48 hours following the tragic slaughter at the Omaha, Neb. Westroads Mall last week, not a single article mentioned the most important fact of all -- that there were "no guns allowed" in the mall?
What helped cause the tragedy is the liberal dream known as "gun-free zones." Guns also weren't allowed at Columbine High School, Virginia Tech University, Luby's cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, and every other location where the wanton slaughter of unarmed, helpless victims is a virtual guarantee. November 23, 2007Considering what happened to Jared Massey in Utah at the hands of power mad Utah Highway patrolman John Gardner, and the fact that the Utah Highway Patrol doesn't appear to be doing anything about it, I'd say that now is definitely not the time to accept any semblance of a law to restrict our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, Supreme Court be damned.

November 14, 2007In recent years, the Supreme Court has already stated that whenever "the people" is mentioned in the Bill of Rights that it refers to the same "class of persons." So if "the people" in the Second Amendment doesn't refer to all of the people, then it doesn't in the First or Fourth Amendments either.
“I’m sure there were a lot of Rwandans who wish they’d had a gun — especially a good weapon like the Kalashnikov — to protect themselves, their families, and their communities from rampaging Hutus. Cutting off firearms ‘at the manufacturers’ level’ — or more accurately, at the level where only the government could legally import weapons and only government soldiers could legally have one — left literally hundreds of thousands — some estimates say upwards of a million — at the mercy of machete-wielding thugs who chopped them and their families and their communities to bits. The absence of firearms did not save anyone, did not deter anyone. Instead, it cost about a million lives. And it only took about three months.”
The Supreme Court, in weighing D.C.'s handgun ban, has a chance to reaffirm the right to own guns.
November 11, 2007The prospect that the high court might define gun rights under the Constitution is making people on both sides of the issue nervous.
October 27, 2007Burglars in the United States could once sue homeowners if they were shot, but now a growing number of states have made it legal to shoot to kill when somebody breaks into a house.
Remember to load your weapon with fragmentation slugs that explode on impact, like the Glaser Safety Slugs. In addition to coupling more energy to the target (and turning the impact zone into hamburger) such bullets tend NOT to penetrate through walls intact and into your neighbors house, the way FMJ will. - M. August 18, 2007A man in Florida surprised police by handing in a surface-to-air missile launcher during a gun amnesty in the city of Orlando.
The interesting part is that the police are accessories to the crime of stealing the missile from its owner. No doubt they are unconcerned where the people trading the guns for the running shoes got the guns in the first place! - M. R.
August 13, 2007The men who founded our nation understood that government was necessary to preserve the people's freedoms. But they also knew that government agents could not always be trusted to use their authority justly, and that government remains the single greatest threat to the rights and liberties of the people.
August 10, 2007Is it possible that we are not talking about the right of the government to form a militia when there is no standing army, but the right of the individual to defend himself, or herself, against both tyranny and lawlessness? Maybe we are talking about the right of self-defense -- the right of the individual to take up arms against a government that wants to oppress, be it foreign or domestic. And the right of the individual to defend himself against criminals, brutes, and barbarians when local police seem unable to stop them.
Hell YES!
Anti-gun = pro-crime. - M. R. August 9, 2007
Senate Panel Sends Brady Expansion Bill To The Floor
-- Once again, measure is passed by an unrecorded voice vote!
It's truly amazing. You wouldn't think that something as controversial as gun control could fly through the House of Representatives, and then through a Senate committee without facing at least one recorded vote.
But on Thursday of last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Senate version of the McCarthy bill by an unrecorded voice vote. The sheriff of a north-central Idaho county where a shooting rampage left four dead and three wounded last May wants more people to obtain concealed weapons permits and carry guns.

July 5, 2007An Ohio newspaper's decision to publish the non-public records of concealed carry permit holders drew a strong response, and one gun rights advocacy group published personal but public information about the newspaper's editor.
By listing the names of all the conceal carry owners, the Sandusky Register in effect pinned a giant bull's eye on the back of everyone else, since the criminals now KNOW who is armed and who is not.
The whole point of conceal carry is to create a deterrent by placing doubt in the minds of criminals over whether a potential victim is armed or not. The Sandusky Register has removed that doubt and that deterrent. The Sandusky Register has AIDED the criminals in Ohio pick helpless targets. This confirms the thesis that anti-gun = pro-crime. - M. July 1, 2007The duo -- lifelong friends and roommates -- are accused of storming into a Plantation Subway shop, armed and announcing a robbery.
They didn't plan to encounter retired Marine John Lovell, 71, who had just finished a veggie sandwich and had a gun tucked in his waistband. Now, had John not been there, the criminals would have succeeded in robbing the store. The police, who are RARELY present when a crime actually occurs, would have shown up to look impressive in their kevlar and promised retribution, but the odds are it never would have happened.
On my radio shows I run some gun-rights commercials which lay out the facts. Where guns are confiscated by the government, crime goes up. Chicago is the example, although any large city with gun control, like Washington DC will suffice. Where citizens are allowed, or as in the case of Kennisaw, Georgia, REQUIRED to own guns, crime drops significantly. Vermont is a good example. Conceal carry is a right of every citizen, and crime is very low. - M. R. June 19, 2007Following the Premiere of the JPFO Documentary The Gang, which exposes the abuses of the ATF. June 12, 2007Wittes said the Second Amendment guarantee of the right to bear arms meant more when it was crafted more than 200 years ago than it does today. Modern society is "much more ambivalent than they [the founders] were about whether gun ownership really is fundamental to liberty," he said.
Actually we need the Second Amendment now more than ever.

Leading US Democratic lawmakers have struck a deal with the powerful National Rifle Association to authorize stricter background checks on people who purchase guns, US media said Sunday.
The deal could lead to the first federal legislation on gun control since 1994 and was negotiated after a mentally ill student went on a shooting rampage at the Virginia Tech university in April, the Washington Post reported. Okay, so we have a guy who wasn't supposed to have guns anyway go on a shooting rampage and the government's response is to make it harder for law-abiding people to own and carry guns.
Contrast the Virginia Tech shooting with a similar case at the Appalachian School of Law where a man on a rampage was STOPPED by other students using legally owned firearms. Gun ban = 300 deaths. Guns in the hands of students = 3 deaths. The logic of allowing people to be armed is obvious, yet the government twists every incident into a justification to disarm the public and violate the 2nd Amendment. - M. R. Strano also claimed that Greensburg residents’ guns had been taken from them, saying, “FEMA and the police have systematically disarmed the local population, leaving the firepower squarely in control of the state.”

May 25, 2007A loaded nine-millimetre police pistol and 45 rounds of ammunition remain missing after an intense but fruitless search by Waterloo regional police yesterday for an officer's knapsack, stolen from a sidewalk near Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate.
May 23, 2007Beginning next month, you will no longer be allowed to carry firearms into the state capitol building. Security procedures are changing, but the new rules do not apply to everyone.
This underscores that gun control is not about fighting crime, but of disarming the ordinary citizen, of whom the government has become afraid. - M. R.
May 19, 2007One of the suspects asked Smith for directions to Kalamazoo Valley Community College and then pulled out a revolver. Smith pulled out his revolver to defend himself and fired two shots, hitting the suspect in his left hand.

May 17, 2007We're all much better off now that the "store will never operate again." We have been saved!
I recall when the Rodney King Riots broke out in Los Angeles. The crooks all had guns or simply stole them. But when law-abiding citizens tried to buy guns to defend their homes and businesses when the LAPD ran away, they ran into California's 15 day waiting period. Then, in an act of total idiocy, the Los Angeles City Council passed a temporary ban on ammunition sales in Los Angeles. Again, this did not affect the crooks and looters who already had or stole the ammo they needed. It just prevented the law abiding citizens from defending themselves.

A Philadelphia lawmaker who supports tougher gun-control laws said Thursday he will likely start wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying his gun more often after receiving a threatening e-mail.
April 26, 2007All “gun-free zones” amount to “self-defense prohibition zones” for honest citizens, and therefore “free-fire zones” for psychopaths, “terrorists,” and other homicidal criminals. If common sense did not, certainly the experiences documented by researchers such as John Lott confirm that the less “gun free” an area is (in terms of firearms in the immediate possession of honest citizens ready and willing to use them), the less violent crime occurs there.
April 23, 2007some suggest that protection is best left to professionals: the police, the military and the "government." The police are not always where they are needed, and their response time isn't always on-the-spot. Even when they do arrive, they are often in the retaliatory and not the prevention business.

Five years ago Peter Odighizuwa a 43 years old Nigerian student killed three faculty members at Appalachian Law School Dean with a semi-automatic handgun, but before he could wreak further carnage two students fetched weapons from their cars, challenged the murderer with guns levelled ,and disarmed him.
In March 1982, 25 years ago, the small town of Kennesaw – responding to a handgun ban in Morton Grove, Ill. – unanimously passed an ordinance requiring each head of household to own and maintain a gun. Since then, despite dire predictions of "Wild West" showdowns and increased violence and accidents, not a single resident has been involved in a fatal shooting – as a victim, attacker or defender.
Contrast that with Washington DC which has a hand-gun ban, and one of the highest murder rates in the country. - M. R.

Don't Let Go of Your Guns...
KLECK: Well, the survey mostly generated results pretty consistent with those of a dozen previous surveys which generally indicates that defensive use of guns is pretty common and probably more common than criminal uses of guns. This survey went beyond previous ones in that it provided detail about how often people who had used a gun had done so. We asked people was the gun used defensively in the past five years and if so how many times did that happen and we asked details about what exactly happened. We nailed down that each use being reported was a bona fide defensive use against a human being in connection with a crime where there was an actual confrontation between victim and offender. Previous surveys were a little hazy on the details of exactly what was being reported as a defensive gun use. It wasn't, for example, clear that the respondents weren't reporting investigating a suspicious noise in their back yard with a gun where there was, in fact, nobody there. Our results ended up indicating, depending on which figures you prefer to use, anywhere from 800,000 on up to 2.4, 2.5 million defensive uses of guns against human beings -- not against animals -- by civilians each year.
Compared to about 35,000 gun deaths every year, 2.5 million good Americans use guns to protect themselves, their families, and their livelihoods - there are 65 lives protected by guns for every life lost to a gun - five lives are protected per minute - and, of those 2.5 million protective uses of guns, about 1/2 million are believed to have saved lives.

The hard fact is that with a government that it out of control and lying us into one war after the other, this is the very WORST time to disarm ourselves. - M. R. Dennis Kucinich has shot himself in the foot, pardon the pun, by alienating a huge majority of his most vocal and active online supporters, the 9/11 Truth Movement, in drafting legislation that will completely ban the purchase, sale, transfer, or possession of handguns by civilians.
Folks, the only way to rescind the Second Amendment is with another amendment. That requires passage by Congress and ratification by 3/4 of the states.
What this is, is that the Democrats are desperate for an issue they can ride into the 2008 campaigns, ANY issue, except of course the one the voters voted on last November; the war and the lies that got us into it. In the wake of the tragic shooting massacre in Virginia this week gun control advocates have once again come crawling out of the woodwork to capitalize on the ill informed and automated response of blaming the destructiveness of a mentally ill person's rampage on the second amendment.
"When the law was passed in 1982 there was a substantial drop in crime ... and we have maintained a really low crime rate since then," said police Lt. Craig Graydon. "We are sure it is one of the lowest (crime) towns in the metro area."
