Israel Is A Discredit To America — Paul Craig Roberts

Jeffrey St. Clair, one of the few remaining Western journalists with a moral conscience, describes the latest Israeli horror to which we are all accomplices.

The Israel Lobby tries to prevent reports and criticism of Israel’s crimes against the Palestinians by branding every critic of every policy of the extreme right-wing Israeli government an “anti-semite.” In other words, if you object to Israeli armed forces shooting down Palestinian children in the streets and then bombing the funerals of the kids the Israelis have already murdered, you hate Jews and are an anti-Semite.

The success that the Israel Lobby has enjoyed in imposing this twisted logic on Congress, the White House, the media, the universities and the insouciant American public is astonishing. As a consequence, Americans are no longer answerable to Christian morality but to the evil that the Israel Lobby represents.

Russia and China mock divide and rule

Divide et impera? It’s not working. And it’s bound to fail miserably.

As it stands, what we do know is that 2015 will be a hair-raising year in myriad aspects... we all still remain under the sign of a fearful, dangerous, rampantly irrational Empire of Chaos.

Russia could outmaneuver Western financial markets by cutting them off from its wealth of oil and natural gas. The markets would inevitably collapse – uncontrolled chaos for the Empire of Chaos (or “controlled chaos”, in Putin’s own words).

In a different vein of the “soft beds of the East” seducing Marcus Aurelius, the silky splendors of chic Beijing offer a glimpse of an extremely self-assured emerging power. After all, Europe is nothing but a catalogue of multiple sclerosis and Japan is under its sixth recession in 20 years.

US preparing for war with China and Russia to save the banks

“There’s a general recognition growing that the driving force for this war is the utter collapse of the entire Western banking system,” Billington said.

“And the view from London and Washington and New York is we have to go to war, we cannot allow this BRICS alliance between Russia, China, India, South Africa and most of Latin America creating new financial institutions to take away our ability to loot the resources in the developing sector,” Billington noted.

Decrepit US Resorts to the Viagra of Militarism

The increasing deployment of American navy, warplanes and missile systems – under the guise of «protecting its partners» – is fuelling militarization of the territorial disputes.

US deteriorating relations with China are the latest manifestation of America’s self-declared «manifest destiny» to behave like a global hegemon.

The increasing deployment of American navy, warplanes and missile systems – under the guise of «protecting its partners» – is fuelling militarization of the territorial disputes.

China, for its part, says that its own military presence in the region is to protect its voluminous trade routes. Beijing has pointedly refused to cease its maritime development projects, mainly land reclamation in shoals and reefs that it says are strictly within its territorial limits.

POETS’ TALK — Where do we fit in in ‘the march of Time’?

The gatekeepers have, I believe, crucified American poetry upon a cross erected by “language poets,” “identity poets,” “politically correct poets,” “apolitical poets” and general nincompoops -- Gary Corseri

The Arts have fallen into an era of petite academicism, crass commercialism and manipulated populism. So, our challenges are many; they are harsh; let us hope they will be invigorating!

Poets who do not see, who do not confront what is out there and around them-- are cowards! Which needn’t mean that that is ALL we must do! But… we must see and confront what surrounds us at some point! Not always…, but when it’s right to do so. To advocate that we always do it is asking us to be propagandists.José M. Tirado

US Cries FIFA Foul to Penalize Russia

The melodrama had the air of a politically driven media campaign for maximum publicity.

?But the real goal of the full-frontal assault on FIFA, which involved dawn raids at a five-star hotel in Swiss city Zurich, seems more to do with American political purpose to damage Russia’s World Cup plans. That objective has to be seen in the context of Washington’s aim to isolate and destabilize Moscow in an ongoing geopolitical battle that is currently centred on Ukraine.

Russia’s World Cup plans appear to be now similarly targeted for an ulterior political agenda. Within hours of the US-launched arrests of FIFA officials in Zurich, the football federation was obliged to state that the forthcoming World Cup in Russia was not in jeopardy of cancellation over related claims of wrongdoing in the selection of that venue.

A Critique of US “Grand Strategy toward China”

If one were to propose a realistic and reasonable ‘US Grand Strategy toward China’ one would have to start by shedding all the false assumptions and bellicose proposals that have been put forth by the CFR and the authors of the Report under review.

The US should not attempt to block China’s growth and expansion; it should assist and share in its ascendancy, especially in the face of great global climate and energy challenges. Washington is much more likely to strengthen its Asian – Pacific partnership and succeed in its diplomacy if it replaced its military posturing with robust economic growth.

Japan’s Prime Minister Calls for ‘Robot Revolution': Hopes to ‘Spread the Use of Robotics to Every Corner of Society’

Japan’s total fertility rate currently sits well below replacement rate at 1.41 births per woman. The image above is more than just a robot door greeter at a department store in a country with a dwindling population of young people to take care of its elderly.

DE-DOLLARIZATION DU JOUR: RUSSIA BACKS BRICS ALTERNATIVE TO SWIFT

Russia is ready to consider the creation of a currency union with other members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Thursday.

Now, Russia is taking de-dollarization a step further by suggesting that a BRICS alternative to SWIFT may be in the cards.

This comes as Russia (which, incidentally, is the second heaviest SWIFT user) is set to convene a BRICS summit in Ulfa on July 8-9 where the $100 billion BRICS bank will officially be launched along with a $100 billion currency reserve

"In this [EEU] format it would be possible to consider the possibility and conditions of eventually creating a monetary union,” Medvedev said.

The prime minister is currently in Kazakhstan for a session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

Okinawans Want Their Land Back. Is That So Hard to Understand?

Once the independent kingdom of Ryukyu, Okinawa, was annexed by Japan in 1872. At the end of World War II, exactly 70 years ago, Okinawa was the site of one of the war's most ferocious battles. Caught between the armies of Japan and the United States, Okinawans suffered unspeakable horrors during the "typhoon of steel." Viewed as expendable under imperial Japan, many Okinawans were killed outright by Japanese soldiers or forced to commit mass suicide. An estimated 120,000 Okinawans - between one-third and one-quarter of the population - died between March and June 1945.

The pain inflicted during the war and its aftermath underscored the Okinawan core value nuchi du takara ("life is precious") and left many Okinawans highly adverse to warfare and militarism. Despite this, Okinawa has remained one of the most militarized places in the world for more than 70 years, first under direct US military occupation and continuing after Okinawa's "reversion" to Japan in 1972.

To beat ISIS, kick out US-led coalition

It is time to cut these losses and bring some heavyweights into this battle against extremism.

Baghdad and Washington are pointing fingers, each accusing the other of being asleep on the job.

An objective look at US interests in the region paint an entirely different picture. The Americans seek to maintain absolute hegemony in the Mideast, even as they exit costly military occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Their primary interests are 1) access to low cost oil and gas, 2) propping up Israel, and more recently, 3) undermining Russian (and Chinese) influence in the region.

World Trade Organization to force Taiwanese citizens to eat radioactive food from Fukushima

Japan could turn to the globalist World Trade Organization to force Taiwan to import seafood and other products that might be tainted with radiation from the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster.

In recent days, the government of Taiwan began imposing stricter rules on inspecting food products imported from Japan that might have originated from areas exposed to radioactive fallout from the crippled plant. That prompted the Japanese government to warn that it could call on the WTO for a trade ruling unless Taiwan eases up on its restrictions.

Memorial Day: Praying for Peace While Waging Permanent War?

First, we must learn the facts and face the truth that the U.S. is the biggest war maker in the world.

Second, we must commit ourselves and organize others to a true revolution of values and confront the corporations and politicians who continue to push our nation into war and inflate the military budget with the hot air of permanent fear mongering.

Third, we must admit what our country has been doing wrong, and we must make amends for the violence that the U.S. has waged on countries all over our world.

A Poem On War

Beyond the count of years I walked the world,

and my children built their shrines to me.

Decades and centuries and millennia pass,

and still the shrines are built.

Temples insubstantial to men,

clear to my eyes.

No foundations or walls or roofs,

but shrines nonetheless.

Holy ground, consecrated

Today, every day, somewhere in the world,

the earth is prepared for my coming.

My hallowed grounds are everywhere.

In valleys and on mountains,

on broad plains and deep in hidden passes,

in deserts, on city streets.

Nameless, unremembered places.

What is the issue, that gets little attention in the mainstream, is that the presidential candidates find it necessary to pay obeisance to ultra-powerful individuals who represent the interests of Israel, not the United States.

What exists now is a “passionate attachment” to a foreign country on steroids that undercuts American security.

For while the mainstream media is analyzing in microscopic detail Jeb’s stumbling over his Iraq war response, it naturally ignores that third rail in contemporary American politics, the power of the Israel lobby.

Why Rohingyas Are Willing To Risk Everything To Flee Myanmar

A majority of Rohingya Muslims live in Rakhine, a Buddhist majority state in western Myanmar. The group says its members descend from Arab traders and have lived in the area for hundreds of years. Many people in Myanmar, however, including prominent political and religious leaders, consider the Rohingyas Bengalis who migrated to Myanmar illegally and have no right to live in the country.

In 1982, Myanmar approved a law that officially restricted citizenship to members of ethnic groups it said had settled in modern-day Myanmar prior to 1823. The Rohingya were not considered one of those groups and its members effectively became stateless.

The lack of citizenship deprives Rohingyas of basic rights, including access to education, freedom of movement, land rights, the protection of their property and the right to marry freely.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is an absolute shame on the government of Myanmar, and heading toward an international disaster.

This law should be changed, and those responsible for not changing it put into the unblinking glare of universal public contempt.

And I never thought that I would have to say this, during this lifetime, but
"Watch out: here come the Buddhists?!?" This is really sad, as a couple of the great foundational concepts of Buddhism are compassion and tolerance.

Too bad those concepts have seemed to hit the skids in Myanmar.

Hope – versus Neoliberalism – an Ode to Solidarity

The new apparent Hope – is it what my friend Finian Cunningham says – the first ‘eye blinking’ by Washington facing Russia?

We are so thirsty for hope, hope for another, more just, more equitable world, we see hope in the first ‘blinking of an eye’. Hope is good. Hope is the basis for action. And action must be the consequence of hope – hope that not all is lost. Action to break that impasse of neoliberal all-engulfing greed must be simple. We have become strangers to ourselves. We must return to our roots, recognizing where and why we failed to diagnose the beast. Our awakened, re-kindled sense of consciousness may lead us to what we have lost – our inherent sense of solidarity.

Let’s hope together for that to happen – to happen soon, for the suffering is too great to endure much longer. We, the 99.99 % have it in our power to stop this misery and save our planet.

Time for FIFA to show Israel the red card

The truth must be told from the outset: I hope Israel is suspended from FIFA.

A soccer ban doesn’t kill anyone. A boycott spills no blood. It is a legitimate weapon to establish justice and apply international law. Israel supported and supports boycotts, and encourages them: against Hamas, against Gaza, and, of course, against Iran. It even joined the boycott against South Africa, albeit in spite of itself. Now its turn has come.

And the whole world looks away

What’s it coming to?
What’s it coming to?
When kings and presidents say they’re right
To bomb the poor day and night

And the whole damn world just stays quiet
And the whole damn world bows to might is right

What’s it coming to?
What’s it coming to?
When they’re killing children every day
And the whole world looks away

And the whole world looks away
And the whole world looks away

Losing the American Republic

Decades of letting neocons dictate a hawkish foreign policy have put the American Republic in profound danger, just as presidents from George Washington to Dwight Eisenhower predicted, warnings that Americans must finally take to heart...

We may lament our poverty of leadership, but there are ways to make it function. “Princes,” since long before Machiavelli have always used advisers; some even listened to them. Surely the capable people among us — like the “wise men” who whispered in the ears of those earlier leaders — can guide today’s leaders toward more viable policies and away from the chaos that engulfs us.

US Blinks in Face-Off with Russia

After staring Russia in the face for the best part of a year, the poker-faced Americans finally realized they are holding a bunch of worthless cards. And the Americans blinked.

Last week started with US Secretary of State John Kerry coming to Russia to lay a wreath for the millions of Soviet soldiers who gave their lives in the historic defeat of Nazi Germany. Then the week ended with Kerry’s deputy at the State Department, Victoria Nuland, flying to Moscow to meet Russian officials to discuss implementation of the Minsk ceasefire in Ukraine.

That’s what you might call «America blinking first» in its high-stakes and reckless face-off with Russia over the Ukraine crisis.

There is much speculation about US Secretary of State John Kerry’s rush visit to Russia in the wake of Russia’s successful Victory Day celebration on May 9. On May 11, Kerry, who was snubbing Russia on the 9th, was on his way to Russia, and Putin consented to see him on May 12.

Japan’s ruling coalition endorses bills allowing military to fight overseas

Japan’s ruling coalition on Thursday signed off on a package of bills allowing the country’s military to take part in fighting abroad for the first time since Tokyo’s surrender in World War II.
Later in the day, the documents will be approved at the meeting of the cabinet of ministers and then be ready to be presented to the parliament.
The new bills give Japan the right to use the "minimum allowed" force in case of aggression against the country with which it maintains close relations. These states have not been specified.
The use of armed forces will now not be limited to geography. Earlier, this was only possible in case of emergency situations on the territory of Japan and adjacent areas.
The bills also allow the country’s armed forces to provide logistic support, including by ammunition, to the armies of other countries as part of operations approved by the United Nations.

Media obfuscation and the Khadr controversy

The story of Omar Khadr unveils the sickening depravity of the Western/Zionist/Neocon warmongers and their bought-and-paid-for presstitutes.

For just shy of a decade, the Americans tortured the Canadian-born Khadr in the Guantanamo Bay concentration camp before relinquishing him to Canada where he has been held in Canadian jails since 2012.

Upon his release on bail on May 7, Canadian neocons began screeching from the hilltops about the ‘travesty’ of temporarily freeing a ‘convicted terrorist.’ Meanwhile, the neo-liberal crypto-militarists who occupy Canada’s mainstream media engaged in stereotypical faux debates consisting of highly constrained babble about the ‘rights and wrongs’ of the treatment of Khadr by the Canadian and American governments.

The issue is never framed properly and is in fact intentionally obfuscated.

70 years since the great Victory! 70 years since Soviet people saved the world by smashing Nazism.

All accords with Russia were broken, whenever it suited invaders. The Scandinavians wiped out countless Russian lives, and so did the Germans, French, Poles, Brits, North Americans and Czechs, to name just a few. Russians never really ‘punished’ anybody, in the Protestant, Anglo-Saxon way. Punishment is mainly puritan, Protestant rubbish; the Russian way of thinking is too quixotic for that.

Chaos – not Victory – is Empire’s Name of the Game

“Once again a country “liberated” by the West is sinking deeper and deeper into chaos.”

This could be anyone of the countries in conflict, where Washington and its Western and Middle Eastern stooges sow war – eternal chaos, misery, death – and submission.

This is precisely the point: The Washington / NATO strategy is not to ‘win’ a war or conflict, but to create ongoing – endless chaos. That’s the way (i) to control people, nations and their resources; (ii) to assure the west is in continuous need for military – troops and equipment – remember more than 50% of the US GDP depends on the military industrial complex, related industries and services; and (iii) finally, a country in disarray or chaos, is broke and needs money – money with hardship conditions, ‘austerity’ money from the notorious IMF, World Bank and other associated nefarious ‘development institutions’ and money lenders; money that equals enslavement, especially with corrupt leaders that do not care for their people.

Techno-Financial Capital and Genocide of the Poorest of the Poor

It is no coincidence that the most violent assaults and invasions by the Euro-American powers have taken place against the poorest countries in each region of the world. The occupation continues. Honduras, the second poorest country in the region, experienced a US-backed coup d’état deposed their recently elected president and imposed a terrorist puppet regime, which regularly assassinates dissidents and landless rural workers. Russia is creating a $100 billion rival to the IMF

Russian President Vladimir Putin ratified an accord Saturday to set up a $100 billion reserve fund for the so-called BRICS — the leading emerging economies Russia, China, Brazil, India, and South Africa.

Moscow is expected to contribute $18 billion to the reserve, well behind the $41 billion China has promised to pour into the fund, which was set up after an agreement signed in July in Brazil.

The emerging economies also plan to form their own international bank based in Shanghai to challenge western dominance over international money markets.
