China pledges $124 billion for new Silk Road as champion of globalization

Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged $124 billion on Sunday for his new Silk Road plan to forge a path of peace, inclusiveness and free trade, and called for the abandonment of old models based on rivalry and diplomatic power games.

Xi used a summit on the initiative, attended by leaders and top officials from around the world, to bolster China's global leadership ambitions as U.S. President Donald Trump promotes "America First" and questions existing global free trade deals.

"We should build an open platform of cooperation and uphold and grow an open world economy," Xi told the opening of the two-day gathering in Beijing.

China has touted what it formally calls the Belt and Road initiative as a new way to boost global development since Xi unveiled the plan in 2013, aiming to expand links between Asia, Africa, Europe and beyond underpinned by billions of dollars in infrastructure investment.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Chinese President Xi Jinping has got this absolutely right, and hopefully, President Trump and his advisors will see clear reason to get on board with this, at least to some form of engagement.

Moodys Slashes Ratings On 6 Canadian Banks, Fears Asset-Quality Deterioration, Soaring Household Debt

Amid Poloz-described "unsustainable prices" in various cities, and just days after the collapse of Canadian mortgage lender Home Capital Group and our discussion of the dire state of Canadian savers (and their record household debt), Moodys has cut the ratings on six of Canada's largest banks because of "ongoing concerns that expanding levels of private-sector debt could weaken asset quality in the future."

As a reminder, even Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz noted that Toronto is out control tonight while answering questions following a speech in Mexico City...

"pretty sure recent gains in Toronto home prices were not sustainable and that the city’s housing market had elements of speculation"

"Financial stability is part of the Bank of Canada’s monetary policy decision making, but the central bank’s primary mission is inflation targeting,... it would be odd to use interest rates to target home prices in just one city."

Ranks of seniors catch up, pass young people in Canada, census numbers to show

Paul Kershaw loves his 72-year-old mother and his 101-year-old grandmother.

But they represent a growing challenge for the country, and Kershaw, 42, will be counting on younger age groups to protect and support the services that seniors need as Canada bears witness to a historic greying of its population.

The next batch of numbers from the 2016 census, due Wednesday, is expected to show that thanks to aging baby boomers, there are as many seniors in Canada as young people, if not more — the first time in Canadian history that has been the case.

Canadian dairy farmers defend industry after trade tirade by U.S. President Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump recently criticized Canadian trade policies for being unfair. He called Canada a ‘disgrace’ for how the country is treating U.S. dairy farmers.

Trump slammed Canada for the second time this week, pushing his “America first” message.

Leaders in the Canadian dairy industry are defending the supply-management system.

“It allows us to focus on Canadian consumers and Canadian production,” said Holstein Canada president Orville Schmidt.

He added Canadian farmers produce enough to meet demand.

“We are not sending milk to the U.S. because that’s not our market,” Schmidt said. “If [Trump] wants to bring milk to Canada, it’s only because he wants to find a place to sell his surplus. So maybe he needs to control his surplus and not try to find a place to sell it.”

Trudeau Points Finger At Russians For Syrian Chemical Attack

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau blamed Russia for Syrian access to and use of chemical weapons on Monday.

“Countries that have been supportive of the Assad regime bear some of the responsibility for the chemical attacks on innocents,” he said.

“And those countries must also be part of the solution as we hold the Assad regime to account and as we move tangibly forward as an international community to ending this conflict in Syria.”

Everyone Hates Canada's Russia-Hating Foreign Minister

Lieutenant-Colonel Mark Lubiniecki has been the commander of the Canadian military mission in western Ukraine since March. The location of his Canadian base at Starichy is as far west as it’s possible to be from the war front in the Donbass, before the Canadians would be camping on Polish soil. Like Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s Foreign Minister, Colonel Lubiniecki’s family is from this region known as Galicia (also as Volhynia). Instead of training local soldiers and giving speeches at cadet graduation ceremonies in Ukraine, Lubiniecki should be called back to Canada to explain what he is doing, and for whose benefit. Is the Canadian colonel training Galicians to fire rocket-propelled grenades at Polish targets? Foreign Minister Freeland, appointed on January 10, was planning to make her debut at the NATO alliance conference of foreign ministers in Brussels last Friday.

US Will Keep Ground Troops in Libya

In a press briefing at the Pentagon today, African Command leader Gen. Thomas Waldhauser announced that the US intends to keep ground troops in Libya for the foreseeable future to support “friendly forces,” and to “degrade” the ISIS forces that remain in the country.

Waldhauser did not specify how many US troops are in Libya now, or how many will stay, but did estimate that there were less than 200 ISIS fighters left in Libya. The US had announced the end of the anti-ISIS campaign in Libya back in December, but never fully withdrew from the country.

The US forces were in Libya trying to help the “unity” government defeat ISIS in the city of Sirte. US officials repeatedly claimed the city was totally surrounded, and that no ISIS fighters would get away, though when the fighting finally ended, a substantial number of ISIS fighters did in fact get away.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Canadian Newspaper Shields Russia-Hating Foreign Minister From Her Nazi Past

This is a story of the moment when the crimes of the past and the criminal intent today turn out to be the same thing: Russian-hating today is a race crime, just as Jew-hating and Pole-hating were crimes, and still are. No Canadian foreign minister or member of parliament, no Canadian Mountie, no Dudley Do-Right should be culpable of such crimes.

Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s Foreign Minister, stands for the same race hatred as her grandfather, Michael Chomiak, stood for. He profited from his crimes by the theft of property belonging to Jews in Cracow and Chelm, the two towns where Chomiak ran newspapers on behalf of Emil Gassner, head of press for the German administration of occupied Poland known as the Generalgouvernement (German) and Generalne Gubernatorstwo (Polish), with headquarters in Cracow.

Canadian Media Ignoring Titanic Lawsuit vs. Bank of Canada

In early August 2013, two Canadians and COMER “confronted the global financial powers in the Canadian federal court.” They have filed a case against Bank of Canada earlier in 2011, in an effort to return the central bank to the people of Canada by printing its own debt-free currency like it was before 1974.

“COMER contends the Bank of Canada, a publicly owned national financial institution created in the Great Depression, is mandated to provide debt-free support for public projects undertaken by federal, provincial and city governments. Not doing so has deprived Canadians of the benefits of larger infrastructure investments, COMER alleges.

Canadian Journalist Eva Bartlett Exposes Mainstream Media Outlets For Reporting Falsehoods, Misinformation In Their Stories

Ever since having utterly destroyed a smug mainstream journalist at a UN Summit over corporate media’s claims that they had sources inside East Aleppo, hospital bombings, and other “atrocities” committed by the Assad government, Eva Bartlett has been the subject of a corporate media smear campaign.

Corporate media outlets and their NGO talking heads have maligned her as a “Russian agent,” a “Syrian agent,” and, probably the most ridiculous of all, even a racist (meaning white supremacist). This last one, of course, is a hallmark of the more NGO-funded or mentally handicapped SJW contingency, the usual suspects who compulsively make this accusation. The argument is that saying the alleged “revolution” of bearded jihadist freaks was funded and orchestrated by the West is to deny that Arabs have the ability to orchestrate their own subhuman revolution of savagery.
