Rickards: Shooting War With China More Likely Than You Think

Yes, headlines and TV interviews are dominated by talk of the trade war. That escalating confrontation is a big deal, but it’s not the only flash point in U.S.-China relations, and not even the most important.

China is as much concerned about a military confrontation in the South China Sea as it is about the economic confrontation in the trade wars.

China dredged sand surrounding useless rocks and atolls in the South China Sea and converted them into artificial islands and then built out the islands to include naval ports, air force landing strips, anti-aircraft weapons and other defensive and offensive weapons systems.

Not only are the Chinese militarizing rocks, but they are trampling on competing claims by the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia and other countries surrounding the sea.

US NAVY RELEASES VIDEO OF SYSTEM TO COUNTER RUSSIA AND CHINA 'SHIP-KILLER' MISSILES

As China and Russia continue to build up their arsenal of “ship-killer” missiles, the United States Navy apparently has plans to counter the weapons. Officials have said that the Navy and numerous NATO partners are firing a new, high-tech ship defense weapon that can identify, track, and attack maneuvering anti-ship missiles.

China Ditching US Coal Imports For Domestic Supply in trade tariff tit-for-tat

Washington trade tariffs against Beijing appear to be backfiring on the US coal industry, as Chinese importers are finding new domestic alternatives to soften the blow.
“We have completely stopped US metallurgical coal (imports), which is popular among steel mills, in late July. There is too much uncertainty in trade,” a senior manager at a major Chinese coal trading house told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Starting Thursday, the US is enforcing a new round of tariffs on $16 billion of Chinese imports. Beijing is responding with a similar amount, including levies on US metals and coal. Coal is an especially important industry for US President Donald Trump, who wants to revive the industry in the country.

One executive displayed a pink helmet that she said would be increasingly unavailable if tariffs were raised, while another said: "Help me keep my company alive."

Representatives from a broad cross-section of United States' businesses and industrial groups began to voice their concerns on Monday, the first of six days of public hearings on the impact of a fresh round of tariffs on Chinese products.

Many said that hefty duties harm US consumers, workers and businesses as well as the economy.

China and El Salvador established diplomatic relations on Tuesday after the Central American country severed "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan.

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Salvadoran Foreign Minister Carlos Castaneda signed the joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic ties in Beijing.

The establishment of diplomatic ties based on the one-China principle conforms to the universal consensus of the international community and the trend of the times, Vice-President Wang Qishan said at a meeting with the visiting Salvadoran delegation, including Castaneda.

Both sides should strengthen exchanges, deepen mutual trust and advance mutually beneficial cooperation, opening up a new chapter for bilateral ties, he said.

Why Russia continues investing in US public debt

Spokespeople for the US Treasury said that Russia has not changed its share in the US public debt since June. Russia owns a $15 billion portfolio of the US public debt. Russia's investment has dropped to a minimum level since 2007. The largest numbers were reported in 2010, when the Russian government invested $176 billion dollars in the state debt of the United States of America. Russia is not on the list of 31 countries that hold most of US bonds. However, Russia stopped decreasing its share in the first month of the summer. For comparison, Russia disposed of US securities worth $80 billion during the period from March to May. From March 2017 to March 2018, Russia's investments in US Treasuries did not fall below $100 billion. The record high was reported in October 2010, when Russia owned US government securities worth $176.3 billion and was ranked the sixth in the world on this indicator...

China And Russia Are Building ‘SHIP-KILLER’ Missiles - Mac Slavo

As China and Russia continue to build up their arsenal of “ship-killer” missiles, the United States Navy apparently has plans to counter the weapons. Officials have said that the Navy and numerous NATO partners are firing a new, high-tech ship defense weapon that can identify, track, and attack maneuvering anti-ship missiles.

Using an active seeker which enables the missile to change course in flight, is the method of “attack” against the anti-ship missiles of the Chinese and the Russians, service officials have said, according to National Interest.

The Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile Block II, or ESSM, is a new version of an existing Sea Sparrow weapons system currently protecting aircraft carriers, destroyers, cruisers, amphibious assault ships and other vessels against anti-ship missiles and other surface and airborne short-range threats to ships.

CIA’s BIGGEST FAILURE: Execution Of Its Agents In China In 2010

The vulnerability of digital communication systems, despite being encrypted, emphasized the discovery of a major security breach in China’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) spy network.

Last year, a New York Times publication unveiled for the first time the CIA’s failure in China, considered one of the most secret agencies in decades. Between 2010 and 2012, about 30 US agents (or more, according to some sources) were kidnapped and executed, and the CIA’s decades-long network in the Asian country was virtually destroyed by Chinese authorities.

Now, nearly eight years later, the Foreign Policy portal published an article with statements from five current and retired Intelligence officials about how Beijing managed to dismantle the spy network so accurately and quickly.

Inside Hong Kong’s Shocking Cage Homes

Hong Kong is the most expensive housing market in the world. It has been ranked as the least affordable housing market on Earth for eight years in a row, and the price per square foot seems to be only going up. The inflated prices are forcing Hongkongers to squeeze into unconventionally small spaces that can affect their quality of life.

Tens of thousands of Hongkongers are living in spaces that range from 75 to 140 square feet. To put that in perspective, the average parking space in the US is about 150 square feet. And in the most extreme cases, Hongkongers have resorted to homes the size of a coffin.

Vox Borders spent some time exploring the living situation in Hong Kong to find out why housing has become so expensive and spaces so tight.

Iran Defends Eurasia Integration By Unveiling New Fighter Jet

Iran served as a critical bridge in the ancient Silk Road, connecting the East and the West. It also has enormous potential to play a significant role in the new Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

With the threat of hot war almost a monthly occurrence, the Trump administration has unleashed economic warfare on Iran, as it has become clear: Iran is a significant piece of the BRI.

The assault of sanctions, launched after Washington’s unilateral pullout from the Iran nuclear deal, “should be interpreted as an advance gambit in the New Great Game at whose center lies in China’s New Silk Road–arguably the most important infrastructure project of the 21st century—and overall Eurasia integration,” said Pepe Escobar, a Brazilian journalist with focus on Central Asia and the Middle East.

The Trump administration’s economic warfare on Iran is evidence of how China’s New Silk Road, or BRI, threatens the American global hegemony.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As I type this, I am taking a peak at my calendar; it is 20 August, 2018.

The world (according to President Donald Trump), has only 75 days before his international and unilateral imposition of a ban against the buying of Iranian oil, which is Sunday, 4 November. Tuesday, 6 November, are the mid-term elections in the US.

Some countries, like China and Turkey, have already scoffed publicly at his threats of punitive sanctions, and other "or else!" language to which he turns his tongue, and are working their way around those threats.

I am seeing a major uptick in US articles demonizing Iran, claiming, for example, that it has "sleeper cells" in the US to wage the kind of mayhem which would make the horrors of 9/11 seem minor, in comparison.

Of course, when you trace those stories back to their origins, they generally have been concocted by none other than "Memri", a division of Mossad which is dedicated to mistranslations, or outright fantastical inventions, concerning what various Iranian leaders are allegedly supposed to have said.

I am deeply concerned about a potential US/Mossad "false flag" to be blamed upon Iran, as a justification for a major military action against it, right around that time, with a complete US Naval blockade of the Persian Gulf, preventing Iranian oil from getting shipped anywhere.Choke Points: Persian Gulf and East Asia, 2017

I understand that a quarter of the oil the world uses is shipped from this area.

I hope President Trump is cogent enough to realize that a war against Iran will most probably lead to wars with Russia and China as well, with them on Iran's side, and the US, NATO, Saudi Arabia, and Israel on the other.

This will be attempted to regime change Tehran (Israel and Saudi Arabia's alleged "existential threat"); to make sure Iran's oil is only sold for US dollars, and to insure that Belt and Road Initiative, so critical to Eurasian integration, and in which China has become so heavily invested, cannot take place.

I would like to quietly and politely suggest to President Trump, that the needs and desires of the governments of Saudi Arabia and Israel, are at times, not at all in sync of those of We the People; the potential costs, in blood and money, completely outweigh the alleged "benefits" of such a war.

Dollar Hegemony, Financial Warfare: Russia, China and Turkey Build up their Gold Reserves

China: Largest Gold Producer

China is currently the World’s largest gold producer followed by Australia and Russia. “It has long been assumed that China is surreptitiously building up its gold reserves through buying local production”. But it is also investing in several gold producing countries.

Chinese companies are investing in gold mining in different regions of the World (including South Africa and Australia), largely with a view to establishing a global hegemony on the supply side. While China’s domestic production is high, its reserves are significantly lower than those of Australia, Russia and the U.S.

Major Chinese firms will ramp up investment in foreign gold mines, ….
Chinese firm Shandong Gold purchase of a 50% stake in the Veladero mine in Argentina from Barrick Gold for USD960mn. …

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is why China and Russia are being targeted by the US economically; to date, there is no substitution for gold as a secure part of a country's portfolio, and economic future.

But what is terrifying in all this, is the way economic and currency wars can move in the direction of shooting wars, and with a staggering rapidity.

APPLE REMOVES THOUSANDS OF APPS IN COMPLIANCE WITH CHINESE GOVERNMENT

Apple has removed around 25,000 apps from its service after the Chinese government criticized the company for not doing enough to monitor content.

As the company makes further commitments to China amidst the ongoing trade war, the stakes are getting higher.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal:

U.S. companies are paying close attention to the messages they get from the Chinese government and the state media in this sensitive trade environment, said Ben Cavender, a director at China Market Research Group who focuses on consumer technology and retail.

“They are going to move very quickly to try to rectify that problem, because this is a situation where there could be a lot more backlash in the government in terms of regulations,” Mr. Cavender said.

As big tech companies move across the globe, internet regulations in the EU and China are impacting users in the United States.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apple's deplatforming of individuals who may be opposed to certain actions of China's government, and the evaporation of views not specifically held by the Chinese government, will be quick and brutal, in Apple's desire to corner the Chinese market; even far worse than what is going on here in the US at this point in time.

SATELLITE SHOWS SPRAWLING ‘RE-EDUCATION CAMPS’ FOR CHINESE MUSLIMS IN XINJIANG REGION

More proof has emerged confirming that China has erected expansive ‘re-education centers’ for up to a million or more ethnic Uighurs in what a recent United Nations statement said resembles a “massive internment camp that is shrouded in secrecy”.

The minority Turkic speaking ethno-religious group concentrated in the western Chinese province of Xinjiang has found itself under increased persecution and oversight by Chinese authorities of late as their mostly Sunni Islamic identity and separatist politics have resulted in historic tensions with the Communist government.

Shocking Report Details How CIA Hubris Exposed Agents In China, Resulting In 30 Executions

A bombshell new report in Foreign Policy reveals that up to 30 CIA agents and assets working in China were identified and executed by Chinese counterintelligence over a two year period after the CIA's encrypted communications system was infiltrated.

Chinese bombers likely training for US strikes: Pentagon

Chinese bombers are likely training for strikes against US and allied targets in the Pacific, according to a new Pentagon report that also details how Beijing is transforming its ground forces to "fight and win."

The annual report to Congress, released Thursday, highlights China's growing military, economic and diplomatic clout and how Beijing is leveraging this to rapidly build its international footprint and establish regional dominance.

In the case of China's air power, the report states that Chinese bombers are developing capabilities to hit targets as far from China as possible.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, his nation’s currency in free fall, on Friday criticized “unilateral actions against Turkey by the United States, our ally of decades.” In an op-ed in The New York Times, he said that if such actions continue, Turkey will be required “to start looking for new friends and allies.”

China is surely one of those potential “new friends,” as evidenced by the fact that economic relations between the two countries, fueled by increasing expectations triggered by the Belt and Road Initiative, have been on a significant rise recently.

PetroChina Is Said to Mull Suspending U.S. LNG Purchases

PetroChina Co. may temporarily halt purchases of U.S. liquefied natural gas spot cargoes through the winter to avoid potential tariffs amid a trade conflict between the U.S. and China, according to people with knowledge of the strategy.

Under the plan, PetroChina would boost buying of spot cargoes from other countries or swap U.S. shipments with other nations in East Asia to avoid paying additional tariffs, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information isn’t public. PetroChina, a unit of the state-owned China National Petroleum Corp., couldn’t immediately comment when contacted by Bloomberg.

U.S. Navy Plane Carrying CNN Crew Warned to Leave South China Sea

A U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance plane, which was carrying a CNN news team on board Friday, flew past a series of artificial islands known as the Spratly Chain in the South China Sea. The plane reportedly received at least six separate warnings from the Chinese military to leave the area.
“U.S. military aircraft, papa 8 alpha, this is Chinese military. China has sovereignty over Nansha islands including the reef and its adjacent waters. Leave immediately and keep out so as to avoid any misunderstanding,” an unidentified voice said, according to recordings provided by CNN.

“I am conducting lawful military activity beyond the national airspace of any coastal state and exercising these rights as guaranteed by international law,” the U.S. Naval pilot operating the aircraft said. “I am operating with due regard to the rights of all states.”

US, TURKEY DECLARE ECONOMIC WAR

Relations between the US and Turkey — a key American ally and home to NATO’s second-largest army — hit a new low on Friday, with the presidents of both countries rhetorically declaring economic war on each other. And over the course of a single day, the Turkish lira lost 17 percent of its value.

Within hours, early signs of panic spread to world financial markets. A European currency trader, who asked that his name not be published, told WhoWhatWhy on Sunday that he had never seen so much trade and volatility over a weekend, blaming it on the Turkey events.

Webmaster's Commentary:

American foreign and economic policies should be used as a feather; rarely as a club.

Unfortunately, President Trump, DC's Merchant of Death in Chief (chief supporter of US arms sales to Saudi Arabia, for its genocide in Yemen) believes in the power of a "bully pulpit" from which he can force "Pax Americana" on an increasingly unwilling and hostile world, without really paying attention to the condition in which the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika, finds itself, in this part of the 21st century.

We are a nation in decline; nearly destroyed by a National debt which can never be repaid; with US infrastructure crumbling, and a pronouncedly "third world" feel to our inner cities, primarily due to massive illegal immigration.

The US continues to do what has always done well, in the immortal words of George Carlin (paraphrased); we continue to kill brown people, because we're good at it!

And this is all in the name of expropriating resources, to which the US government has no moral right; regime change to insure that governments are US centric, and that those resources stolen from their countries of origin, will only be sold in US dollars.

And I have to wonder, with this feud between Erdogan and President Trump; did anyone happen to mention to him, that such activities were nearly bound to push Turkey into the economic/military sways of both China and Russia?!?

Was this the outcome actually wanted?!?

And if not, why the hell didn't someone around him suggest this possibility, which is about to morph into some huge embarrassments for the US in the Middle East and beyond?!?

Iran Sanctions Fallout: China Takes Over French Share In Giant Iran Gas Project

When it comes to the Middle East, China has not been shy about its recent ambitions to expand its geopolitical influence in the Gulf region: Just last week we reported that the Chinese Ambassador to Syria, Qi Qianjin, shocked Middle East pundits and observers by indicating the Chinese military may fill the void left in the wake of the collapse of ISIS - and most regional armies - and directly assist the Syrian Army in an upcoming major offensive on jihadist-held Idlib province.

The "[Chinese] military is willing to participate in some way alongside the Syrian army that is fighting the terrorists in Idlib and in any other part of Syria," the ambassador said in an interview with the pro-government daily newspaper Al-Watan, subsequently translated by The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

China will buy Turkey on the cheap

Like the fall of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, Turkey’s present financial collapse has been expected for years. The sloth of credit rating agencies and the laziness of bank credit committees allowed Turkey to struggle on a year or two longer than it should have, but the collapse of the Turkish lira this week after a long, sickening decline surprised no-one.

Turkey’s volatile president Recep Tayyip Erdogan might have put off the crisis, but instead decided to butt heads with US President Trump over the arrest of an American Protestant minister for alleged terrorism.

World Remains Blind To "Ticking Time Bomb" Counting Down To War On Australia's Doorstep

Asia is at risk of descending into a region-wide crisis with global implications, a leading expert in Asia-Pacific affairs has warned.

Dr Brendan Taylor, Associate Professor at ANU Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, argues Asia is at a dangerous crossroads in his new book The Four Flashpoints: How Asia Goes to War.

A lot is happening in the northeast. China is set to overtake the United States as the world’s dominant power over the next decade. Questions remain over Kim Jong-un’s supposed dismantling of his nuclear arsenal. Japan is building up its military power again, and regional battles for ownership of lucrative oceans are intensifying.

Dr Taylor argues there are four key “flashpoints” — politically unstable areas with the potential to erupt into sudden conflict — and all are situated within the continent.

"US Risks Completely Losing Turkey": Erdogan Vows To Defy US "Threats" Over Pastor Brunson

Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hit back Saturday at US "threats" over detained American pastor Brunson which has escalated tensions between the two NATO allies, sent the Turkish currency into a historic nosedive on Friday and crashed Turkish capital markets.

"It is wrong to dare bring Turkey to its knees through threats over a pastor," Erdogan lashed out during a rally in the Black Sea town of Unye.

"I am calling on those in America again. Shame on you, shame on you. You are exchanging your strategic partner in NATO for a priest."

"They are threatening us. You cannot tame our people with threats" but perhaps a collapse in the stock market will suffice: the Turkish lira crashed as much as 20% against the dollar on Friday, its biggest drop on record, after President Trump announced he would double steel and aluminium tariffs on Turkey, adding to pressure to Turkey's troubled economy. The White House has said the newly-imposed sanctions would take effect from August 13.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yesterday, atimes.com, reported the following:

China will buy Turkey on the cheap. The article goes on to state:

"Turkey’s volatile president Recep Tayyip Erdogan might have put off the crisis, but instead decided to butt heads with US President Trump over the arrest of an American Protestant minister for alleged terrorism."

"Turkey will end up as “an economic satrapy of China,” as I predicted last November. President Erdogan in effect threw himself on the mercy of China in a barely-coherent speech earlier today.

Turkey’s economy is likely to shrink by 10% to 20% before the bleeding stops, as I predicted June 12. Erdogan’s supposed economic miracle followed the old formula of Third World kleptocracies of the past, namely massive domestic credit issuance supported by massive foreign borrowing. Turks bought foreign consumer goods with the proceeds and the country’s current account deficit swelled to 6.5% of national output. That’s close to where the Greek current account deficit stood in early 2012 when the country’s economy imploded."

Mr. President, just a question here; did you NOT understand that your economic threats were going to throw Erdogan into China's influence?!?

Because if not realizing that this would be the case, President Trump has just revealed himself to be an astonishingly ill-informed sitting President, eager to take bad advise which reinforces his view of the world, rather than asking for the uncomfortable truth, far too often.

UN PUTS COST OF SYRIAN WAR DESTRUCTION AT NEARLY $400 BILLION

A group of United Nations experts have produced a figure which puts a price tag on seven years of war in Syria in terms of overall destruction to the country: nearly $400 billion.

The UN just concluded a two day meeting of over 50 Syrian and international experts in Lebanon who met under the aegis of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

According to the AFP, the group of economic analysts concluded that the "volume of destruction in physical capital and its sectoral distribution" is estimated at more than $388 billion (334 billion euros).

IN SHOCKING UN ACCUSATION, CHINA SAID TO HOLD 1 MILLION UIGHUR MUSLIMS IN "MASSIVE INTERNMENT CAMPS"

A breaking report based on findings of a United Nations human rights panel accuses China of holding up to one million ethnic Uighurs in what the report says resembles a “massive internment camp that is shrouded in secrecy”.

The minority ethno-religious group concentrated in the western Chinese province of Xinjiang has found itself under increased persecution and oversight by Chinese authorities of late as their collective Sunni Islamic identity and separatist political movements have resulted in historic tensions with the Communist government.

Most notable is the ethnic Uighur-founded and led East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM, also commonly called the Turkestan Islamic Party, or TIP), a Muslim separatist group based Xinjiang known to have conducted dozens of terror attacks in Chinese cities like Shanghai and Yunnan, but also in places like Afghanistan, and as far as Syria, where it's believed up to 5,000 Uighurs fight alongside al-Qaeda.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What I find interesting about the timing of the release of this UN report, is the reality that the US has brought down even more economic sanctions against China as of last month. First Section 301 Trade Tariffs against China on 6 July: second list of tariff lines introduced for review.

One can view the timing of this report in one of two ways, but I think a middle ground perspective is most useful.

It is difficult for any culture, or country, to have a prominent ethnic minority which will not assimilate to the primary culture's norms, to the point of creating violence against that primary culture, as we are seeing with middle Eastern and African immigrants coming to Europe. But this has been a highly fraught confrontation between Beijing and the Uighurs for quite some time now, so this is really nothing new, despite the breathtaking prose here.

But the timing of the release of the report, even though these "camps" may have existed for some time, in an attempt to stop violence against the dominant Chinese culture, may well be an attempt at demonisation against it, in light of both trade and military tensions between the US and China,, which do not appear to be de-escalating any time soon.

Dianne Feinstein Was An "Easy Mark" For China's Spy: Sperry

Dianne Feinstein - vice chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and a ranking member on the Senate Intel Committee, was an "easy mark" for the Chinese spy who operated within her inner-circle for two decades, reports journalist Paul Sperry in the New York Post.

A Chinese-American who doubled as both an office staffer and Feinstein’s personal driver, the agent reportedly was handled by officials based out of the People’s Republic of China’s consulate in San Francisco, which Feinstein helped set up when she was mayor of that city. He even attended consulate functions for the senator. -New York Post

According to Feinstein, the staffer was fired "immediately" after the FBI warned her five years ago that Chinese intelligence had infiltrated her office. Feinstein claims he had "no access to sensitive information" and that he was never charged with espionage.

"War In Front Of Me" - New Chinese Military Video Shows Off Range Of Advanced Weaponry

A new video produced by China's military that features the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) showing off a wide range of the country's latest military technology has gone viral after its publication to social media on August 1st, the day China commemorated 'Army Day'.

The just over two-minute video, called "I am a Chinese soldier" is an over the top patriotic tribute emphasizing a combination of personal sacrifice, loyalty, and a sense of esprit de corps in belonging to an elite, modernized military.

The National Interest has provided a translation of the popular Chinese language footage, which is described as follows:

The video is brimful with the grandiosity that is now associated with the military under Xi Jinping: a lot of ammunition is fired, and the very latest in China’s military technology — combat aircraft, a carrier battle group, long-range ballistic missiles, submarines and armored vehicles — is on full, proud, active display.

"Step Back From The Brink" UN Warns As Major War Looms After Overnight Gaza Airstrikes

In the third serious flare-up of violence in the last month, a major escalation began between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza overnight, which involved approximately 180 projectiles fired towards Israeli territory, and more than 150 Israeli airstrikes on targets inside Gaza, according to statements by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Reports citing Israeli sources say of about 180 projectiles launched from Gaza overnight, the Iron Dome defense system intercepted over 30, while most hit open fields. However, official statements also noted strikes on playgrounds, houses, cars, and factories.

The BBC reports up to seven Israeli civilians wounded by the rocket and mortar fire, with Palestinian health officials confirming the death of a pregnant Palestinian woman and a toddler. The AFP identified the victims as 23-year old Enas Khammash and her 18-month-old daughter Bayan, killed in the Jafarawi area of central Gaza.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel wants this war, and it wants it now; Palestine is to be completely obliterated, and the formerly recognized Palestinians lands completely claimed by the settlers.

The problem facing Israel, is that it cannot control this war, and how far, or how rapidly it will spread.

It has the all the earmarks, right now, of a becoming a larger ranging regional war, with Israel, the US, Saudi Arabia, NATO on one side, and Iran, Russia, China, and Lebanon on the other.

I hope I am dreadfully wrong on this, but I think Israel believes that the timing is right for it to go in and kill as many Palestinians as is humanly possible.

Not The Driver? Feinstein's Chinese Spy May Have Been Office Director

Following revalations from Politico that Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) employed a Chinese spy for 20 years - identified as her driver by the San Francisco Chronicle in a subsequent article and filed under "no big deal" by the MSM, the Daily Caller's Peter Hassan has a new theory; descriptions fit longtime aide and former Feinstein office director, Russell Lowe.

All the details of a former, longtime Sen. Dianne Feinstein staffer who’s accused of relaying information to Chinese intelligence services while working for the California Democrat point to Russell Lowe, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation has determined.

Lowe worked for 20 years in Feinstein’s San Francisco office, where he was a staff liaison to the Asian-American community before leaving approximately five years ago. All those details match up with the descriptions of the Chinese spy Feinstein reportedly employed. -Daily Caller

Trump To Slap $16 Billion In New Tariffs On Chinese Imports Starting August 23

Completing the latest round of tariffs pledged against China, the US Trade Representative announced on Tuesday (after the close of course) it will impose 25% tariffs on $16 billion-worth of Chinese imports starting August 23. The new round of tariffs completes Trump's previously disclosed threat to impose $50 billion of import taxes on Chinese goods. The first $34 billion-worth went into effect on July 6th.

According to the USTR statement, customs will collect duties on 279 product lines, down from 284 items on the initial list; as Bloomberg notes, this will be the second time the U.S. slaps duties on Chinese goods in about the past month, overruling complaints by American companies that such moves will raise business costs, tax US consumers and raise prices.

On July 6, the U.S. levied 25% duties on $34 billion in Chinese goods prompting swift in-kind retaliation from Beijing.

Gold: Have The Chinese Changed The Way They Look At It?

But I do believe the Chinese are managing the price of gold priced in CNY. They have in essence provided a floor at which they are willing to accumulate gold. They don’t bother selling it when it rises above that level, but when the gold price descends into their buy zone, they are there with stacks of blues.

So why is the price of gold going down recently? Well, if we assume that China is one of the biggest buyers of gold, when their currency depreciates, their bid for gold priced in US dollars falls.

The price of gold has not been pegged in CNY, it is merely being bought in that currency. The Chinese have fundamentally changed the way they look at gold. Instead of pricing it in US dollars, they are pricing it in CNY. And they are bid. For size.
