Peace Negotiations or War Preparations?

The US strategy of war through negotiations has mixed results. Where it confronts a burgeoning world power, such as China, it has failed. With a weak, disarmed state like Libya, it succeeded beyond its wildest dreams (or nightmares). With “middle level powers” like Cuba and Iran, it has secured political concessions but has not yet eroded the security and defense capabilities of the governments. In the case of Colombia, Washington is deeply embedded in the regime and has openly embraced a naked military solution.

An Economic Reason for the US vs. China Conflict

There are many reasons that the US is pushing on China in the South China Sea. Two articles have been published on Counterpunch in recent weeks exploring “why?” None mention an important economic reason that has, at least in part, motivated the US to go to war and is very much at stake in the growing dispute with China: the value of the dollar.

The dominance of the dollar in world trade is critical to its value and to the US economy. Once the US abandoned the gold standard, it signed firm agreements with Saudi Arabia and all of Middle East OPEC nations that bound them to sell oil in dollars. Because of this agreement the dollar is often referred to as the “petrodollar.” The value of the dollar/petrodollar rests on its being the currency of international trade, not only for oil, but for weapons and food and everything else.

Never Mind FIFA, How about a Crackdown on the Banksters?

The belated focus of American and British authorities on the alleged wrongdoings at FIFA can be readily seen as both ludicrous and laughable when we compare that with the absolute dearth of interest by these same authorities in applying law enforcement where it ought to be applied – on the Wall Street and City of London banksters.

Both the timing of the US-launched corruption probe – in the week of FIFA’s annual conference and leadership election – plus the way that senior American and British officials, not to mention the publicity of Western news media, have weighed-in to rebuke FIFA suggests that it is all part of a coordinated political campaign authored at the highest level of government. That, in turn, suggests that there is an ulterior political agenda behind the supposed criminal crackdown on FIFA, and that the ulterior agenda is the Western objective to undermine Russia.

Israel Is A Discredit To America — Paul Craig Roberts

Jeffrey St. Clair, one of the few remaining Western journalists with a moral conscience, describes the latest Israeli horror to which we are all accomplices.

The Israel Lobby tries to prevent reports and criticism of Israel’s crimes against the Palestinians by branding every critic of every policy of the extreme right-wing Israeli government an “anti-semite.” In other words, if you object to Israeli armed forces shooting down Palestinian children in the streets and then bombing the funerals of the kids the Israelis have already murdered, you hate Jews and are an anti-Semite.

The success that the Israel Lobby has enjoyed in imposing this twisted logic on Congress, the White House, the media, the universities and the insouciant American public is astonishing. As a consequence, Americans are no longer answerable to Christian morality but to the evil that the Israel Lobby represents.

Russia and China mock divide and rule

Divide et impera? It’s not working. And it’s bound to fail miserably.

As it stands, what we do know is that 2015 will be a hair-raising year in myriad aspects... we all still remain under the sign of a fearful, dangerous, rampantly irrational Empire of Chaos.

Russia could outmaneuver Western financial markets by cutting them off from its wealth of oil and natural gas. The markets would inevitably collapse – uncontrolled chaos for the Empire of Chaos (or “controlled chaos”, in Putin’s own words).

In a different vein of the “soft beds of the East” seducing Marcus Aurelius, the silky splendors of chic Beijing offer a glimpse of an extremely self-assured emerging power. After all, Europe is nothing but a catalogue of multiple sclerosis and Japan is under its sixth recession in 20 years.

US preparing for war with China and Russia to save the banks

“There’s a general recognition growing that the driving force for this war is the utter collapse of the entire Western banking system,” Billington said.

China Backs Putin on FIFA, Slams US

An editorial in China’s state-run Xinhua on Saturday accused the US of pursuing “geopolitical objectives” in disguise of a probe into corruption in football’s top governing body, FIFA.
In growing signs of an entente between Russia and China, portions of the Chinese editorial have said the US is “killing two birds with one stone” by trying to “act like a hero” and wrecking Russia and Qatar’s hosting of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup.
Beijing is allying with Russian President Vladimir Putin who has accused the US of using the corruption probe to try to block the re-election of FIFA chief Sepp Blatter for resisting attempts to remove Russia’s right to host the 2018 World Cup.

Decrepit US Resorts to the Viagra of Militarism

The increasing deployment of American navy, warplanes and missile systems – under the guise of «protecting its partners» – is fuelling militarization of the territorial disputes.

US deteriorating relations with China are the latest manifestation of America’s self-declared «manifest destiny» to behave like a global hegemon.

The increasing deployment of American navy, warplanes and missile systems – under the guise of «protecting its partners» – is fuelling militarization of the territorial disputes.

China, for its part, says that its own military presence in the region is to protect its voluminous trade routes. Beijing has pointedly refused to cease its maritime development projects, mainly land reclamation in shoals and reefs that it says are strictly within its territorial limits.

China resets Latin America

China is busy doing the things that Russia can not do for economic reasons - the Celestial Empire is changing the world order. One can say that China is conquering the world with loans. Latin America is of special importance for China at this point. Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang is touring South America and signed landmark agreements with Brazil.
China is conquering the world not with weapons, but with loans. After the events on Tiananmen Square in 1989, the Chinese leadership understood what Wall Street's globalization may bring. China still lives under numerous Western sanctions. For example, Chinese companies are not allowed to deliver advanced technologies. Therefore, the Celestial Empire has been developing everything on its own. The country has a national payment and financial systems, as well as a favorable business investment climate for ambitious national projects.

POETS’ TALK — Where do we fit in in ‘the march of Time’?

The gatekeepers have, I believe, crucified American poetry upon a cross erected by “language poets,” “identity poets,” “politically correct poets,” “apolitical poets” and general nincompoops -- Gary Corseri

The Arts have fallen into an era of petite academicism, crass commercialism and manipulated populism. So, our challenges are many; they are harsh; let us hope they will be invigorating!

Poets who do not see, who do not confront what is out there and around them-- are cowards! Which needn’t mean that that is ALL we must do! But… we must see and confront what surrounds us at some point! Not always…, but when it’s right to do so. To advocate that we always do it is asking us to be propagandists.José M. Tirado

US Cries FIFA Foul to Penalize Russia

The melodrama had the air of a politically driven media campaign for maximum publicity.

?But the real goal of the full-frontal assault on FIFA, which involved dawn raids at a five-star hotel in Swiss city Zurich, seems more to do with American political purpose to damage Russia’s World Cup plans. That objective has to be seen in the context of Washington’s aim to isolate and destabilize Moscow in an ongoing geopolitical battle that is currently centred on Ukraine.

Russia’s World Cup plans appear to be now similarly targeted for an ulterior political agenda. Within hours of the US-launched arrests of FIFA officials in Zurich, the football federation was obliged to state that the forthcoming World Cup in Russia was not in jeopardy of cancellation over related claims of wrongdoing in the selection of that venue.

A Critique of US “Grand Strategy toward China”

If one were to propose a realistic and reasonable ‘US Grand Strategy toward China’ one would have to start by shedding all the false assumptions and bellicose proposals that have been put forth by the CFR and the authors of the Report under review.

The US should not attempt to block China’s growth and expansion; it should assist and share in its ascendancy, especially in the face of great global climate and energy challenges. Washington is much more likely to strengthen its Asian – Pacific partnership and succeed in its diplomacy if it replaced its military posturing with robust economic growth.

US preparing for war on China, Russia to save banks: Analyst

The United States is preparing for a possible war against China and Russia aimed at preventing the collapse of the Western banking system, an American political commentator and activist says.

Michael Billington, Asia editor for the Executive Intelligence Review and author of Reflections of an American Political Prisoner: the Repression and Promise of the LaRouche Movement, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday.

“The point that has to be made is that the Chinese, like the Russians, are very, very clear that the United States and their NATO allies are in a war mobilization, preparing for war on Russia, preparing for war on China,” Billington stated.

“There’s a general recognition growing that the driving force for this war is the utter collapse of the entire Western banking system,” he added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to the Pentagon, the White House, and State Department: a war against Russia and China (and yes, we are looking at a war with BOTH countries), is a really, really bad idea.

The reality is (and Mr. President, if you haven't been informed of this by now, you should have) the US military doesn't have the troop strength, the manufacturing, or the money to insure a positive outcome to such a war.
