Skelton: Stop Bilderberg’s Nightmare Future At All Costs

London Guardian journalist Charlie Skelton, who began his coverage of the 2009 Bilderberg conference in a jovial and mocking manner, is now warning that the horrendous treatment dished out to him by both police and undercover spies is just a taste of what we can expect in our daily lives if we allow Bilderberg’s agenda, and specifically ID cards and implantable microchips, to be implemented.

Initially setting out to cover the event in a satirical way, Skelton left Greece yesterday chilled to the bone about how he had been harassed, detained and stalked for days on end by authorities merely for taking photographs of the hotel where Bilderberg members were staying.

ABC's Diane Sawyer Pleads for European-style Gas Tax

"Good Morning America" co-host Diane Sawyer on Tuesday aggressively lobbied for the Obama administration to install a European-style gas tax on the United States. Talking to Carol Browner, Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change, about Obama's plans for increased fuel standards, she began, "Why not just go to a gas tax, for instance, which would accomplish a reduction in the use of gasoline, dependence on foreign oil right away?" Sawyer would proceed to ask variations on this question six times.

A Matter of Trust

Because the story was so radioactive from Israel’s point of view, examining its progress as it made its way into the international media can serve as a sort of case study—it shows in real time how America’s media differ from other countries’ in their portrayal of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And it helps illuminate the frequent charge that the American press is biased in Israel’s favor. Or against it, again, depending on your point of view.

The Economy’s Search for a "New Normal"

When the reality of the economic crisis first made itself known, many who realized what was happening dubbed it “the greatest crisis since the Great Depression.” This description was more than bombast; it was a sober analysis of the immensity of the economic problems in the country — problems that had been building up for years.

Pelosi’s Claims Getting Much More Media Scrutiny Than CIA’s Assertions

Whichever side of the torture debate you’re on, it’s a simple matter of fact that Nancy Pelosi’s claims about what she was told and when about torture are getting far more intense media scrutiny than the CIA’s claims are.

Simple fairness demands that both side’s claims get treated with a similar level of skepticism. And they’re not.

Dear Corporate Media, Now That You're Connecting Torture to War, Can We Talk?

Now that you're beginning to talk about the fact that our country tortured people in order to elicit war rationales, can we talk for a minute? I'd like to point a few things out that you can verify without spending a dime on investigative reporting. First, we now know that we tortured in hopes of producing justifications for a war. Let's suppose that this was done in "good faith" and that the lies al Libi told to stop the pain were actually true. We know that the torturing preceded and exceeded the OLC memos, the OLC memos were themselves insane (I think that's the legal term for it, but you can ask your lawyers), and dozens of people were tortured until they were dead. Let's suppose none of that to be the case.

Webmaster's Commentary:

None of that would change the fundamental fact that we were not torturing for defense of this nation but for an offensive attack on another nation.

AUSTRALIAN MURDOCH ISLAMOPHOBE COMPLAINS ABOUT ‘ISLAM DAY’ IN HAWAII BUT WILL HE COMPLAIN ABOUT ‘JEWISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH’ IN THE WHOLE OF U.S.?

Last Tuesday I wrote of Australian Murdoch propagandist Andrew Bolt’s complaint about the Hawaiian senate creating an ‘Islam Day’ while only some 0.5% of Hawaiians are Muslims. I wondered if Bolt would be as quick to condemn such a move if had the Hawaiian senate created an ‘Israel Day’.

We’re about to find out. Yesterday, President Obama went one better by declaring that the month of May will be Jewish American Heritage Month for the whole of the US! Not just Hawaii. And the Jewish population in the US is only 1.78%.

I have no problems with Jewish Americans being recognised in this way so one has to wonder why Andrew Bolt has a problem with Islam getting the same recognition.

One doesn’t need to have it spelt out.

@Thinking Digital: 'Newspapers are dead'

Newsweek writer Dan Lyons says that newspapers are in denial about their collapsing business and will never recover.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Digital has nothing to do with it. The major newspapers stood side by side with Bush and lied us all into a war with stories about Saddam's "nookular" bombs.

Now they are paying the price for that betrayal of the public trust, and they want to salve their guilt by blaming the digital revolution for their demise.

People want the truth, and if need be they will use smoke signals to get it.

Stuff World and the Great Deception Machine.

If you want the truth then you have to be able to adjust to it when you hear or see it. The truth does not adjust to you. The attempt to achieve that adjusting is how lies are created. This is why you should approach the main stream media with the conscious awareness that they are lying to you all the time. The biggest hurdle… even for those who know better is… how could something so big and prosperous, so ubiquitous; successful and routine in its operations be one great big lie machine? Looking right at it, it tricks us and… it wears us down.

Finally, I’ve been attacked – sort of.

So far the response to my book Meltdown, a free-market look at the financial crisis, has been almost eerily favorable. That’s very gratifying, to be sure, but criticism is what gets debate going and pushes a given subject matter beyond its typical confines.

Until now, it’s been hard to come by. Even though it spent ten weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, the paper refuses to review it. Maybe he knows something the rest of the world doesn't. He often has. Or maybe he's just losing his touch. I was surprised also to read in Clark's piece about the jaw-dropping decline in News Corp profits. The newspaper division collapsed, and the television profits went up in smoke.

Hey, if Murdoch's right, he might introduce the rest of the world to the model that can save the newspaper once and for all. That'd be something to celebrate. Or it could be that we're getting to the end of the Murdoch era. In that case, I wouldn't cry.

The idea that our country does not torture is based on World War II policies, but since 1950 the CIA has been studying torture techniques and has been exporting its knowledge abroad through the Office of Public Safety and the School of the Americas. Rupert Murdoch: “Internet Will Soon Be Over”

The establishment media is dying and advertising revenue has plummeted as people turn to blogs and the alternative media for their news in an environment of corporate lies and spin.

This has forced sectors of the corporate media to charge the dwindling number of loyal readers they have left for news content, a practice which is set to become widespread according to Murdoch. Many of the lenders were either controlled by US and European banks, or could not have indulged in their high-risk lending spree without the connivance of banks, the investigative journalism group said in a new study.

Living in the moral gutter in New York City and Writing for The New York Times

The New York Times - Mind - Benedict Carey - Stumbling Blocks on the Path of Righteousness In recent years, social psychologists have begun to study what they call the holier-than-thou effect. They have long known that people tend to be overly optimistic about their own abilities and fortunes — to overestimate their standing in class, their discipline, their sincerity.

“The problem with these holier-than-thou assessments is not only that we overestimate how we would have behaved,” Dr. Epley said. “It’s also that we blame every crisis or scandal on failure of character — you know, if we just fire all the immoral Wall Street bankers and replace them with moral ones, we’ll solve the problem.”

SWINE FLU LAYS ONE DOWN

Jay Severin, a punk posing as a pundit

Severin reportedly called illegal immigrants from Mexico "criminaliens," "primitives," and "leeches." Yes, he said that Mexico's leading exports were "venereal disease," "women with mustaches," and "swine flu."

The secret to his success - to the degree one could call a talk-radio host who traffics in venom and vitriol a success - was simple.

First, he appealed to the visceral grievances and resentments of his audience. Second, he flattered them by continually telling them they were the best and brightest, men and women of intelligence and discrimination.

What better salve for a listener's ego than to be told that his darker instincts are the very essence of red-, white- and blue-blooded patriotism?

As deadline looms, will NY Times shut The Boston Globe?

The New York Times Co, which bought the Globe for $1.1 billion in 1993, threatened at the start of April to shut the money-losing, award-winning broadsheet unless the paper's 13 unions agree by Friday to $20 million in concessions.

As the deadline approaches, the future of one of America's most acclaimed regional newspapers looks unclear, illustrating deepening problems for an industry that has few answers for an accelerating, long-term shift of advertising to the Internet.

Names of potential buyers have surfaced only to disappear nearly as quickly, some worrying about finding a profitable financial model for a newspaper that won 20 Pulitzer Prizes and dominates news coverage in the six-state New England region but has faced steep drops in circulation.

Severin suspended for comments about Mexican immigrants

Jay Severin, the fiery right wing talk show host on Boston's WTKK-FM radio station, was suspended yesterday after calling Mexican immigrants "criminaliens," "primitives," "leeches," and exporters of "women with mustaches and VD," among other incendiary comments.

Swine flu source spawns wild theories

Finding the source of a new virus is key for scientists because understanding how it jumped to humans can lead to better drugs and vaccines as well as help prevent future outbreaks.

But one link experts probably won't be exploring is an Internet report charging that Mexican drug cartels working with al Qaeda unleashed the swine flu.

"The claim of the conspiracy theorists is that this new combination could not have occurred naturally, but this is not true," the New Scientist's biology editor Michael Le Page wrote.

The real victims of swine flu

As the media focus on a global sneezing fit, the plight of people in Congo, Somalia, Burma and China is being ignored.

...

For others, like the Israeli and Sri Lankan governments, flu victims provide a welcome diversion from military victims. While the Sri Lanka's Tamil-bashing president, Mahinda Rajapaksa, seems hell-bent on turning his country into a rogue state, Israel's army has been quietly insisting its not dissimilar operations in Gaza in January were entirely in accordance with international law.

Human Rights Watch heaped scorn on Israel's claims this week while the International Crisis Group warned that a "boiling" Gaza could soon explode again. But with the world busy holding its nose and examining the contents of its handkerchief, who's listening?

Doubt over INM future

Newspaper giant Independent News and Media (INM) warned today of “significant doubt” over whether the entire company can continue as a going concern.

INM, which owns more than 200 newspaper and magazine titles across the world including the Irish Independent, said it cannot pay a €200m bond which is due to mature on May 18.

The group said that while it still remained profitable it was now in danger of breaching the covenants on its borrowing facilities.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No doubt the corporate media will whine and blame the bloggers for their troubles, but the fact is that most of the corporate media made the choice to stand with those who lied us into wars of conquest, and the public no longer trusts them, even as the corporate media blasts us with new polls assuring us that the world loves our glorious leaders!

Why YOU cannot sell YOUR house

Bloomberg.com - Courtney Schlisserman - Home Prices in 20 U.S. Cities Declined at Slower Pace - The decline in home prices in 20 major U.S. cities slowed in February for the first time since 2007, amplifying signals that the market may be stabilizing.

The S&P/Case-Shiller index’s 18.6 percent decrease compares with a record 19 percent decline the month before. The gauge has fallen every month since January 2007, and year-over-year.

[But that doesn't tell the true story.]

Humour / Sarcasm used as weapons against the Gov't

Newspapers give thumbs down to Government claims on ID cards
23 Apr 2009
National newspapers have portrayed Government policy on ID cards as illiberal, unsafe and being introduced by stealth according to a study published today.
The four-month snapshot of 280 newspaper articles and letters was carried out by Elisa Pieri, a researcher at The University of Manchester.
The study examined the coverage in four broadsheets and three tabloids, and all their Sunday editions.
It found that newspapers used a range of arguments to condemn the policy on ID cards. Humour and sarcasm were among the strategies used to undermine the arguments made by the Government.

Growing Evidence of a Fictitious War on Terrorism - Calls Into Question Where all the Stinking Media Pundits Have Led Us

BBC - Trio cleared over 7/7 attacks - Three men have been cleared of helping to plan the 7/7 London suicide attacks.

[There is something hideously Kafkaesque to be found -reading about a second trial where the defendants are again found innocent, of crimes that could result in the death penalty. It should make you feel deeply ashamed of your humanity's belief in any human competence. The trial itself -is simply far more heinous than the original crime.]

Scarborough: ‘Rational fear’ justifies torture

In debating the use of torture on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, co-host Mika Brzezinski expressed a concern that “fear and reality will overtake morality.” However, host Joe Scarborough did not see that as a problem and seemed to believe it was completely appropriate for what he called “rational fear” to far outweigh morality.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Glenn Beck: A Savvy Fraud Who Knows Just How to Please His Audience of Conservative Suckers

Fox News host Glenn Beck has done all the necessary spadework to position himself at the center of a brewing and increasingly paranoid right-wing insurgency. From challenging Democratic Congressman Keith Ellison to prove he isn't working with Al Qaeda, to taking tearful stands against Barack Obama's Democratic Reich, the self-described “rodeo clown” is pushing his televised tirades and skits closer to the angrier, more unhinged fare of his daily talk radio show, now ranked third nationally, where he has been honing his confessional Molotov-throwing shtick for a decade.

The Pulitzer-Winning Investigation That Dare Not Be Uttered on TV

The New York Times' David Barstow won a richly deserved Pulitzer Prize yesterday for two articles that, despite being featured as major news stories on the front page of The Paper of Record, were completely suppressed by virtually every network and cable news show, which to this day have never informed their viewers about what Bartow uncovered. Here is how the Pulitzer Committee described Barstow's exposés:

Awarded to David Barstow of The New York Times for his tenacious reporting that revealed how some retired generals, working as radio and television analysts, had been co-opted by the Pentagon to make its case for the war in Iraq, and how many of them also had undisclosed ties to companies that benefited from policies they defended.

Huge Protests As New Jersey Declares Flu Vaccines Mandatory http://www.prisonplanet.com/huge-protests-as-new-jersey-declares-flu-v...

Hundreds of concerned parents participated in demonstrations outside the New Jersey Statehouse yesterday in protest of the State’s decision to mandate flu vaccinations for young children.
Protesters also turned out to support a bill that would allow for conscientious objections to forced vaccinations, arguing that medication should be the choice of the parent not the government.

The Housing Crash: The Data Confirms a Downward Momentum

Why is the media misleading the public about housing? The housing market is crashing. There are no "green shoots" or "glimmers of hope"; the market is worn to a stump, it's kaput. Still, whenever new housing figures are released, they're crunched and tweaked and spin-dried until they tell a totally different story; a hopeful story about an elusive "light in the tunnel". But there is no light in the tunnel; it's a myth. The truth is, there's no sign of a turnaround or a "bottom" in housing at all; not yet, at least. The real estate market is freefalling and it looks like its got a long way to go. So why is the media still peddling the same "rose-colored" claptrap that put the country in this pickle to begin with?

Our Fearless Independent Media Ignore the Pulitzer Prize That Calls Them On Their Own Conflicts of Interest

Torture

On Tuesday evening, I watched Anderson Cooper and Bill O'Reilly utter the same euphemism for torture. "Harsh" techniques, they said. And then, to each of their guests they posed the question of whether or not these "harsh interrogation techniques" worked and shouldn't that be an important part of judging their merit? I felt dirty just listening to them.

New York Times Sales Dive While Local Internet Ads Are Up

It’s a sad state of affairs when a mainstay like the New York Times loses over 28 percent of its print advertising revenue in a quarter. In fact, the print revenue losses amounted to $61.6 million. The NYT’s internet ad sales shrunk by about 5 to 6-percent last quarter as well, because of the faltering economy.

How the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times Buried the Madoff Scandal for at Least Four Years

One dog that snoozed in its kennel was the New York Times. The Madoff scam was, of course, a local story for the Times, not least because Times editors undoubtedly knew many of Madoff’s victims socially. It is surprising, to say the least, that no Times person ever seems to have sensed there was something fishy going on in the Lipstick building. The Upper East Side was buzzing with rumors about his apparently sensational investment returns. Many a New York socialite either had money invested with him – and boasted of it in a loud stage whisper – or at least wanted to do so.

Obama Plays Hamlet on Torture

In Wednesday’s Times, reporters Scott Shane and Mark Mazzetti plow much of the same ground. Please don’t misunderstand. They deserve considerable praise for finally pushing their article past the Times’ timorous censors, but let’s not pretend the startling revelations are new.

The Times ought to allow the likes of Shane and Mazzetti to publish these stories when they are fresh. Alternatively, the once-known-as “newspaper of record” might at least report the findings of the likes of Eban, rather than ignoring them for nearly two years.

We are avoiding physics of WTC

Because of the difficulty in refuting the solid evidence of explosives inside those three towers, defenders of the "official story" have resorted to ridicule the character of the article's publisher, and those engineers that trust physics over politics.

Why hasn't this been reported in the mainstream media? Perhaps because most are afraid to really look into the physics of 9/11, since fear of the known is sometimes worse then fear of the unknown.
