‘Russia’s role in WWII has been distorted by Anglo-American media’

New RT documentary "Remembrance" examines the revisionist narratives about World War II that have muddied the Soviet Union’s role in defeating Nazi Germany, and obscured the sacrifices made by its people.

“I think World War II has been distorted incredibly by the Anglo-American media, and that’s because they wanted to diminish the role of Russia and Stalin who actually defeated Hitler, you know. It wasn’t the United States and Britain that defeated him, it was really Stalin,” says Dan Henderson, a US journalist.

Episode 224

At long last, there are early signs of introspection emerging in the more rarified edges of the mainstream media. Lindsey Hilsum, a distinguished foreign editor on Channel 4 News, for example, sought this week to find an answer to the erupting question of why so many people now prefer the reportage of alternative reporters to that of people like her who think themselves to be the real thing.

Hala Jaber is a significant figure on the journalistic landscape; a celebrated award-winning writer on the Sunday Times, one of the world’s most important newspapers, a war correspondent of considerable bravery, as well as being an author of note; so we invited her into the Sputnik studio to ask why there appears to be a growing move away from “real” journalists to alt-media.

Auf Wiedersehen Google! Berlin demands tech giant LEAVE Germany

Locals in Kreuzberg, Berlin, are waging a campaign to prevent Google from setting up shop in their home after the corporation announced plans in September 2017 to build their seventh worldwide campus there.

One message scrawled on a wall said: “F**k off Google.”

This comes as a French digital rights campaigner living in Berlin - and working under the pseudonym Larry Pageblank - has set up an English-language website called ‘F**k Off Google’ to ward the corporation off his adopted home.

The local anarchist bookshop, Kalabal!k, also holds ‘Anti-Google Cafe’ sessions twice a month and has begun distributing a newspaper called ‘Sh*tstorm: Against Google, Displacement and Tech Dominance.’

US officials growing increasingly concerned Iran could attack Israel

There are increasing concerns Iran is on the cusp of an attack against Israel, several US military officials told CNN.

Intelligence is not clear on when an attack could come and what form it would take, they said, with one official noting that "if there is an attack it might not be immediately clear it's Iran."

The US is watching very closely to see if Iranian-backed actions could come from inside Syria or Lebanon, or even from inside Iran itself, though that would be considered a major military escalation.

FLASHBACK - Confirmed: Facebook’s Recent Algorithm Change Is Crushing Conservative Sites, Boosting Liberals

Facebook’s much-publicized demotion of publishers’ content in users’ news feeds has negatively impacted conservative-leaning publishers significantly more than liberal-leaning outlets, an analysis by The Western Journal has revealed.

Liberal publishers have gained about 2 percent more web traffic from Facebook than they were getting prior to the algorithm changes implemented in early February.

On the other hand, conservative publishers have lost an average of nearly 14 percent of their traffic from Facebook.

This algorithm change, intentional or not, has in effect censored conservative viewpoints on the largest social media platform in the world. This change has ramifications that, in the short-term, are causing conservative publishers to downsize or fold up completely, and in the long-term could swing elections in the United States and around the world toward liberal politicians and policies.

Report: BuzzFeed Targeted Readers with Sponsored Anti-Trump Political Ads Without Proper Disclosure

BuzzFeed ran microtargeted pro-Clinton political ads during the 2016 election without labeling them as political ads — despite assurances that they would do so — according to a report by the Daily Caller.

According to the report, BuzzFeed ran 32 “native” political ads (ads designed to look like standard articles) on the site in 2016, without disclosing that they were political ads. This is despite the fact that BuzzFeed promised to add disclosures on native political ads when they launched the program.

But the Caller reports that only four native ads out of the 36 they analyzed from 2016 contained proper disclosures.

By failing to disclose native political ads as such, BuzzFeed risks running afoul of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rules on native advertising. As the Caller notes, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) also mandates that online political advertisements identify who funded and authorized them.

ThinkProgress Smears Investigative Journalist for Questioning Douma Gas Attack

Reporter Pearson Sharp, who visited Douma, Syria, about 10 days after a chemical attack allegedly took place there, spoke with Sputnik Radio’s Fault Lines with Garland Nixon and Lee Stranahan on Monday after he was smeared by ThinkProgress.

Pearson said that after the Khan Shaykhun chemical attack that spurred US President Donald Trump to fire almost five dozen Tomahawk missiles at the Shayrat Air Base in Syria in April 2017, he was motivated to find out if it was really true that there was evidence that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had used chemical weapons to kill Syrian civilian targets in Douma, as London, Washington and France have alleged.

When visiting Douma, Pearson explained that instead of describing what he personally saw, he wanted to put the camera on people in the town instead and let them tell the story. After interviewing dozens of Douma residents, Sharp found that "consistently, not one person in the town said they heard anything about an attack."

AP Tries To Cover Up Clinton Links To Sex Cult

The Associated Press is running a full-court press to block any reporting on the associations between Bill and Hillary Clinton and NXIVM, the sex cult that sees its leaders Keith Raniere and Allison Mack standing trial for sex trafficking.

At a recent court hearing, former Smallville star Allison Mack avoided eye contact with fellow defendant Keith Raniere, the manipulative cult leader who allegedly had Mack and other women under his spell during his years of unencumbered alleged sex crimes. Mack’s possible plea deal could lead to incarceration for Raniere — who is being held without bail — and could collapse the entire house of cards around NXIVM that involves the Clintons and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

Vatican Official Forced to Resign over ‘Lettergate’ Scandal Gives Lecture on ‘Fake News’

In late March, Msgr. Dario Edoardo Viganò was obliged to step down from his post as head of Vatican communications when it was learned that a doctored photograph of a letter from Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI had been distributed to journalists. The letter seemed to express endorsement of a collection of books exploring the theology of Pope Francis.

Journalists immediately accused the Vatican communications department of propagating “fake news,” and the Associated Press (AP) said the Vatican’s manipulation of the photograph “violated photojournalist industry standards.” The missing content “significantly altered the meaning of the quotes the Vatican chose to highlight,” AP said, because they “suggested that Benedict had read the volume, agreed with it and given it his full endorsement and assessment.”

The part of the letter offered to the press also omitted a significant passage in which the former pope sharply criticized one of the authors of the series.

2005: CNN Host Christiane Amanpour Tells Assad US Looking For New Syrian Leader, Supporting “Opposition,” Preparing Coup

By Brandon Turbeville

By now, it is common knowledge among researchers and journalists focused on the Syrian crisis that the plan to destroy the Syrian government was not merely hatched in 2011 at the beginning of the physical crisis itself, but that it was part of a much older plan to eliminate all resistance to the world finance oligarchy. Indeed, not only did the plan go back further than 2011, its beginnings could be seen going all the way back to the 1980s.

One window into the coming destabilization came two years after the United States had invaded and destroyed Iraq for the same reason. Notoriously pro-war propagandist Christiane Amanpour sat down for an interview with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, during the course of which she alluded to the fact that the United States was planning on his overthrow...

Judge Colleen McMahon of the Southern District of New York ruled that the CIA does not have to release parts of five emails senior CIA officials sent to journalists from the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and The Washington Post in 2012. At the time, the CIA was facing pressure over links it may have had to a Pakistani doctor who helped American forces hunt down Osama bin Laden.

The ruling came in a lawsuit filed by Adam Johnson, a freelance reporter, who was represented by a first amendment lawyer in New York City, Daniel Novack.

“The Director of Central Intelligence is free to disclose classified information about CIA sources and methods selectively, if he concludes that it is necessary to do so in order to protect those intelligence sources and methods, and no court can second guess his decision,” McMahon ruled.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is how the CIA attempts to create narrative, and "guide" the current course of history toward that narrative; this is also why the Independent Media is more important and precious to making informed decisions than ever.

Facebook will rank news sources by ‘trust’ – but who does Facebook trust?

Facebook will now rank news sources by “trustworthiness,” promoting or suppressing content based on this criterion. However, news organizations enlisted to help define what “trustworthy” is seem to reveal a strong political bias.

Speaking at Facebook’s annual F8 developer conference on Tuesday – a flashy two-day affair of keynote speeches and after-parties for the Silicon Valley elite – Zuckerberg said that the company has already gathered data from users, who it asked to identify various news brands and score them by trust.

“We put [that data] into the system, and it is acting as a boost or a suppression, and we’re going to dial up the intensity of that over time,” he said, according to Buzzfeed News. "We feel like we have a responsibility to further [break] down polarization and find common ground.”

Are Palestinian Journalists Being Censored by Murder?

On April 25, Ahmad Abu Hussein became the second Palestinian journalist Israeli snipers shot to death while covering the Great March of Return demonstrations, a series of weekly, massive Palestinian demonstrations demanding the right to return to their lands. Abu Hussein was 24 years old. Just days before, Israeli live ammunition killed 30-year-old Yasser Mourtaja. Like Abu Hussein, he was wearing a large, bright “Press” jacket that made clear he was a reporter.

The organization Reporters Sans Frontieres asserts that the Israeli Occupying Forces’ targeting of journalists is deliberate and systemic. This would be in direct violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2222 (2015), which states: “impunity for crimes committed against journalists, media professionals and associated personnel in armed conflict remains a significant challenge to their protection and that ensuring accountability for crimes committed against them is a key element in preventing future attacks.”

Busted! Mainstream Media's Witch Hunt on 'Russian Bots' Over Skripal Case

According to the latest Whitehall analysis by British civil servants, covered by The Guardian, Russia-based accounts have increased their propaganda activities up to 4,000 percent since the alleged poisoning attack on former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in Salisbury, UK.

“One bot, @Ian56789, was sending 100 posts a day during a 12-day period starting from April 7, and reached 23 million users, before the account was suspended. […] Another, @Partisangirl, reached 61 million users with 2,300 posts over the same 12-day period,” The Guardian wrote.

It appears, those people are not Russians at all, and The Guardian labeled them as “bots” incorrectly: the first “Kremlin-inspired” user, mentioned in the government report, @Ian56789, turned out to be a British citizen, who agreed to make an appearance on Sky News via Skype to dispel the myths that he’s a “Russian troll.”

State sponsor of terrorism

Russophobia is now so rampant in the west's political media elite, it has become an absurd caricature. US Senator Cory Gardner has called for Russia to be labelled a state sponsor of terrorism. His argument (if such it can be called) is based on falsehoods, irrelevancies and blatantly absurd disinformation.

Gardner claims that the State Department should make the designation because Russia invaded Georgia and the Ukraine. (It didn't. And invading another country is not terrorism. However, a country much closer to Senator Gardner does have a history of invading other countries - care to hazard a guess?) Gardner also cites Russia's support for Syria. (This is true. But Russia is in Syria legally, fighting against terrorists - terrorists who are supported by the US, the United Kingdom, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Israel, France and others. Indeed, the US has thousands of troops in Syria illegally and has repeatedly bombed the country and killed Syrian civilians and soldiers.)

Any missile fired at an enemy is, by definition, considered expendable and designed to not reveal too many secrets if it malfunctions and lands intact. But there are some pieces of hardware within a modern missile that a clever enemy could exploit.

Earlier this month, the corporation admitted that a scene from the 2011 documentary showing tribal people living in treehouses had been faked by the programme's makers.

Now the BBC has said it has discovered a second breach.

In the first episode, an Indonesian hunter was shown supposedly harpooning a whale - but it has now emerged that the BBC 'does not consider that the portrayal of his role is accurate'.

An Iranian air base inside Syria? No - Israeli media use wrong photo

Several Israeli news sites published a satellite photograph on Tuesday April 17 that they said showed an Iranian military airfield inside Syria. But in fact the photograph showed Mehrabad International Airport in the Iranian capital Tehran.

The Jerusalem Post published a satellite photograph with a caption saying it showed proof of Iranian military involvement in Syria. It said the photograph was one of three released by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman’s unit Tuesday morning.

‘Youtube’ removes video tribute to Yaser Murtaja and other Gaza victims as ‘sensational’ incitement

Image of Yaser Murtaja after he was shot April 6, 2018, at the Gaza fence, from video by Sana Kassem posted by Norman Finkelstein.
? ? ? ? ? ?
Check out this stirring anthem to freedom in Gaza. It begins with a Palestinian child saying “We shall overcome” and an image of Martin Luther King Jr. and then in many still pictures of the “Great March of Return” conveys the strength of the unarmed resistance to the blockade–including the killing of Yaser Murtaja, the Palestinian journalist who was one of six Palestinian journalists shot by Israeli snipers on April 6.

The imagery is by Sana Kassem, and the video was posted by Norman Finkelstein yesterday on youtube. The song is “Wings to Fly,” by Susan Boyle. The copy accompanying the video was simply: “A video dedicated to the people of Gaza as they struggle to break out of Israel’s infernal prison.”

Then Youtube took it down today, Finkelstein says, and he and Kassem have posted it now on Vimeo.

Facebook hosted stolen Social Security numbers for years: report

Facebook hosted data posted by cyber criminals including stolen identities and Social Security numbers for years, according to Motherboard.

The outlet, a subsidiary of Vice Media, was able to find such data through a Google search that revealed a number of public posts on Facebook containing sensitive personal information.

Motherboard successfully verified some of the identities and Social Security numbers posted on Facebook, some of which had been on Facebook since 2014.

Rod Rosenstein Eyeing Exit from DOJ; Mulling Job Offers from Network TV News and Law Firms

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is mulling job offers from at least one mainstream media network television news team and two law firms who would hire the embattled public servant as a partner, according to sources in the Justice Department.

The problem is Rosenstein still employed by the Justice Department.

Perhaps not for long.

But he might be looking for a way to parachute out before he is fired by President Trump. Or have a landing pad in case he is fired.

CONFIRMED: Google engineer pressured company to delete conservative websites and videos in order to help destroy Trump

For months conservative and right-leaning websites have been complaining that all the social media giants — Google, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter — have been downgrading, banning, or otherwise censoring their content.

For just as long the social media behemoths have been denying it’s happening, despite research and evidence that says otherwise.

Now, a class-action lawsuit filed by former Google employee James Damore claims that a senior engineer at the company pressured officials to sabotage President Donald J. Trump’s Android phone.

Altman, according to evidence provided in the suit, implores the tech giant to use the “full economic force [of] Google for good” by, in part, deleting the Gmail accounts of the president, his administration, and their aides for “abuse.”

I write a lot about how, in a political environment that is saturated in disinformation and propaganda, it’s important to ignore people’s words and watch their actions instead to get a clear picture of what’s really happening. You could not ask for a better illustration of this than the recent behavior of the mass media with regard to Syria.

The always excellent Moon of Alabama put out a piece yesterday detailing the immense deluge of attack editorials disguised as information that have been churned out recently about anyone who questions the establishment Syria narrative, including a single day in which no less than seven smear pieces were issued by prominent publications. Seven. In one day.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The following is a very interesting window on which companies own what in terms of presstitute media:

The article goes on to state:

"GENERAL ELECTRIC --(donated 1.1 million to GW Bush for his 2000 election campaign)

Television Holdings:
* NBC: includes 13 stations, 28% of US households.
* NBC Network News: The Today Show, Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, Meet the Press, Dateline NBC, NBC News at Sunrise.
* CNBC business television; MSNBC 24-hour cable and Internet news service (co-owned by NBC and Microsoft); Court TV (co-owned with Time Warner), Bravo (50%), A&E (25%), History Channel (25%).
The "MS" in MSNBC
means microsoft
The same Microsoft that donated 2.4 million to get GW bush elected.

Other Holdings:
* GE Consumer Electronics.
* GE Power Systems: produces turbines for nuclear reactors and power plants.
* GE Plastics: produces military hardware and nuclear power equipment.
* GE Transportation Systems: runs diesel and electric trains. "

GE is part and parcel of the Unhinged, Surveilled States of Amerika's military industrial complex; therefore, any narrative regarding the reality that the US has NOT been invited to get rid of the Western-sponsored, trained, and funded Jihadis, but Russia has, will be squashed like a bug.

GE wants to see more and more wars against Syria, Russia, China, and Iran and whoever is on the Deep State (and Israel's) "To Regime Change" lists, and those lists are massive.

This is ultimately about who controls the oil in the Middle East, and in what monetary denominations that oil will be sold.

GE is right now in a massive management shakeup, due to lousy performance How GE went from American Icon to Astonishing Mess, and are desperate for something - ANYTHING - to get them out of it. Things are so bad, in fact, that it would be ridiculous for them not to want a war, to turn their flagging fortunes around.

But such a war comes at potentially great geopolitical, military, and fiscal risk to the Unhinged, Surveilled, States of America.

A further US military incursion into Syria will, undoubtedly, bring a military reaction from Russia, and this is where things could get...awkward and ugly in a heartbeat.

We are already hearing the Israeli government making noises, threatening Russia not to use its S-300 or S-400 Defensive system against their missile attacks in Syria, and insists that it will continue attacking Syria.

IF Israel attacks again, and is soundly trounced by these Russian defensive systems, you can almost bet Israel will be crying to the US government that they are being "unfairly attacked", and that the US has to back them up, millitarily, in Syria.

I would like to politely suggest to the Trump administration to not do this; our military doesn't have the troop strength, the weaponry, the manufacturing or the money to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia in Syria; and those are just the facts.

Corporations like GE or Microsoft do not care that the costs of such attacks will be primarily borne in blood and money by the US; they only care about their profit margins, and the leadership of both companies have had their consciences collectively surgically removed.

Facebook Shares Sink On Report Cyber Criminals Are Hawking Stolen Identities On Its Platform

Anybody who watched Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's tedious multiday testimony before Congress earlier this month might recall a particularly heated segment during the second day of hearings where one Congressman harangued Zuckerberg about illegal opioids being openly sold on Facebook's platform.

At the time, Zuckerberg promised the lawmaker that Facebook would remove the offending posts down as soon as they were flagged. But he was unable to offer a definitive promise that Facebook would be able to stamp out drug dealing on its platform entirely - though he added that the company's AI tools for filtering posts that violate its terms of service are constantly improving, and that the company was in the process of hiring thousands of employees who would help screen content.

But apparently, the opioid sales were only the tip of the iceberg.

'Everyone is tired of MSM': A London encounter that showed why RT's work matters

As we were getting the bill, the manager came up and asked whether I was from Russia. I said ‘Yes.’ Then, apropos of nothing, she said how much she loved and appreciated RT.

Wait, what?

At first I was a bit taken aback. Was someone eavesdropping on my private night out? Had I even mentioned RT over dinner? My friend certainly knows what I do and where I work, which is why – in the context of our chat – even if we had discussed what I’d been up to work-wise, there would have been little need for me to mention my employer by name.

I asked the lady, just to clarify, whether she was referring to something my friend and I had said about RT that evening. It was her turn to be surprised. No, she said, she just made the association with me being Russian and RT being a channel from Russia.

So, I decided to tell her who I was. What came next surprised all the more. In my friend’s words, she'd "never seen someone being fan-girled like this."

Fox News Continues to Dominate Cable News Ratings, Hannity on Top

Sean Hannity won’t be beaten that easily.

After weeks of scandal, it looks like the Fox News anchor most closely connected with President Trump isn’t having his ratings affected by the negative media coverage.

Just two weeks ago, we learned that Hannity was the third client of Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen. This led to a lot of gossipy speculation that, because Cohen has been hired as a fixer in scandalous cases involving marital infidelity, perhaps Hannity was paying hush money to a mistress. These rumors were found to be untrue, and Fox News issued a statement of support for Hannity. However, that didn’t stop some of Hannity’s colleagues from chastising the host, saying he was trying to have it both ways by asking Cohen for legal advice and maintaining he was never an official client.

Al Jazeera denies it canceled US Israel lobby film

Al Jazeera has denied a claim it has canceled the broadcast of an undercover investigation into the US Israel lobby.

The Qatar-funded network also rejected as “abhorrent” accusations that the film is anti-Semitic.

The statement came last week, after the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) asserted that its president Morton Klein had convinced the Qatari ruler Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to cancel the film.

The network said in a statement that it “totally refutes false claims” by Klein “that Al Jazeera was compelled to ‘cancel’ a yet to be broadcast investigation into the activities of pro-Israel advocacy groups in the United States.”

The ZOA boasted that due to the efforts of Klein, Qatar agreed to cancel the “viciously anti-Semitic” Al Jazeera film on the “American Jewish lobby.”
