‘Land of censorship & home of the fake’: Alternative voices on Facebook and Twitter’s crackdown

Alternative voices online are incensed after Facebook and Twitter closed down hundreds of political media pages ahead of November's crucial midterm elections. Facebook says they broke its spam rules, they say it’s censorship.

Some 800 pages spanning the political spectrum, from left-leaning organizations like The Anti Media, to flag-waving opinion sites like Right Wing News and Nation in Distress, were shut down. Other pages banned include those belonging to police brutality watchdog groups Filming Cops and Policing the Police. Even RT America’s Rachel Blevins found her own page banned for posts that were allegedly “misleading users.”

MSNBC: ‘Burden’ on Journalists to Educate ‘Bizarre,’ Crazy Climate Deniers

As Hurricane Michael smashed into the Florida panhandle, both MSNBC and CNN on Thursday were worried about the really important issue: How to educate the “bizarre” and ignorant Americans who don’t fully adopt the left’s prescriptions for solving global warming. MSNBC journalist Craig Melvin talked to fellow liberal Nicholas Kristof and lectured, “Most sane-thinking people would acknowledge that the intensity of the storms... due in no small part to climate change.”

Melvin insisted this issue isn’t a partisan one, wondering, “What happened? When did climate change become partisan?” How did it become partisan? Perhaps because, according to the Daily Caller, the new United Nations report on global warming suggests the equivalent of a $240 per gallon tax on gas. For conservatives who opposes higher taxes, that seems a tad partisan.

Jerusalem Post breaks ‘death’ of Russia’s UK envoy in rush to post more ‘Kremlin hacking’ news

The Jerusalem Post got a tad ahead of itself with a ‘breaking news’ alert about Russia’s ambassador to the UK denying that Moscow had any role in the Skripal case, reporting instead that the envoy... had died? Sure.
“Russian UK envoy dies; Kremlin hacked computers and murdered ex-spy,” the Post announced in a “BREAKING NEWS” update.

It appears that the outlet botched the headline of a Reuters wire report about Russian Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko’s news conference in London held on Friday.

The slightly more accurate Reuters-provided headline read: “Russian UK envoy denies Kremlin tried hack computers and murder ex-spy.”

CNN host Don Lemon led a panel discussion with three CNN commentators as they gleefully heaped scorn on Kanye West for meeting with President Trump to discuss prison reform and for otherwise expressing support for the President (the video is below). Among other things, West was pilloried for being both ignorant and exploited. “Kanye West is what happens when Negroes don’t read,” CNN’s Bakari Sellers said. CNN’s Tara Setmayer pronounced him “the token Negro of the Trump administration.”

Facebook Purges Over 800 Accounts With Millions Of Followers; Prominent Conservatives Vanish

Just in time for midterms, Facebook has removed 559 pages and 251 accounts they claim have been spreading misinformation and spam. Several of the pages however - some with millions of followers, were pro-Trump conservatives who had spent years cultivating their followings.

Facebook purges hundreds of political pages, some alt-media with millions of followers

Facebook is again being called out for purging political accounts too far left and right of center, after it removed more than 800 pages just in time for the 2018 midterm elections. Some had millions of followers.

Many of the affected pages were supposedly sharing links between groups using fake accounts, which then clicked "Like" on the posts, artificially upping their engagement numbers. This "inauthentic behavior" violates Facebook's anti-spam policies and goes against "what people expect" from Facebook, the company said.

While some of the deleted pages have been known to run content of questionable credibility at times, Facebook did not expressly accuse them of spreading "fake news" – or actually provide a list of names or examples of postings at all. However, under the platform's new policies, simply spreading "news" is frowned upon: it has recently tweaked its algorithm to prevent users' feeds from being dominated by news stories.

American Pravda: Holocaust Denial

Carefully reading his article and then glancing through the contents, I decided that his accusation was technically false but substantially true. Apparently the actual theme of the issue was “Historical Revisionism” and except for a couple of paragraphs buried here and there among the 76 pages, Holocaust Denial never came up, so characterizing it as a Holocaust Denial issue was obviously a grotesque exaggeration. But on the other hand, although few of the authors were familiar to me, it seemed undeniably true that they were numbered among America’s more prominent Holocaust Deniers, and most of them were deeply associated with organizations situated in that same camp. Furthermore, there were strong indications that their positions on that topic must certainly have been known to the Reason editors who commissioned their pieces.

“You can do anything you want,” she added. Deriding the President’s leadership, she concluded, “The problem with that is that fear has a very short shelf life. And you cannot do that for very long. The question is always what kind of damage are you going to do while you're able to do that?”

Don Lemon Loses It After Called Out for Making 'Liberal Talking Point' Defending Left-Wing Mobs

In a lengthy segment on CNN Tonight Tuesday evening, anchor Don Lemon had a panel of both right and left-leaning analysts on to discuss President Trump’s comments condemning the left wing mobs that are and have been harrassing Republicans, particularly after Justice Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court.

Lemon grew increasingly frustrated with right-leaning columnist and CNN commentator Matt Lewis of the Daily Beast, after he argued there was a double standard in the media ignoring these leftist mobs, and downplaying them as simply “protesters.”

Also on the panel was Democrat strategist Maria Cardona, faux Republican Max Boot, and Republican strategist Alice Stewart. Playing clips from a Trump rally where he spoke about the importance of voting and not giving power to “angry left wing mobs,” Lemon feigned ignorance, snarking, “Who is he talking about?”

Politico Reporter Glorifies 'One Finger Salute' for Trump Administration

It is no surprise that unhinged liberals who have formed screaming mobs targeting Trump administration officials or tackling Republican senators peacefully mowing their own lawns would also give the "finger" directed at the same people or President Donald Trump himself. However what is unusual is that a supposely professional reporter for Politico would be equally as unhinged and full of TDS hatred as to not only glorify such activity but to even angrily justify it.

Such a reporter would be Ben Schreckinger who invokes the "finger" over and over so many times that a reader could be excused for misreading his name as "Schreck-finger." “We also asked the First Lady about some of the major events that have shaped and rocked her husband's White House and the country, including the #MeToo movement,” Llamas gushed, playing clips of Trump saying he supported Kavanaugh. He then asked, “What is your take about the #MeToo movement, though? Do you believe in them? Do you support the #MeToo movement?”

Trump responded that everyone raising accusations and those accused needed to be heard and supported. Llamas tried to trap Trump with another gotcha question, asking, “Do you think men in the news that have been accused of sexual assault, sexual harrassment have been treated unfairly?”

Trump appealed to the need for “hard evidence,” before Llamas tried to shame her, again, scolding, “Some women might hear that and say how could you say that Mrs. Trump? You need to stand with women! What would you say?”

How Saudi Arabia manipulates foreign media outlets

Thanks to WikiLeaks, Reporters Without Borders is able to expose how Saudi Arabia’s government, which has suppressed all media freedom domestically, tries to co-opt foreign media outlets in order to project a positive image of the kingdom internationally.

Its methods are revealed in leaked cables between Saudi embassies and the Saudi foreign ministry which WikiLeaks has been publishing as the “Saudi Cables.” Not all of them are dated but the bulk of the documents cover the period from 2010 to 2015.

While it is not always clear from the cables what was actually done, they expose the extraordinary initiatives that were at least considered by the Saudi government in an attempt to improve its image abroad.

Why are we paying taxes to fund NPR propaganda?: “Republicans Seize On ‘Angry Mob’ Mantra To Keep Their Midterm Base Fired Up”

President Trump warned at his rally in Pennsylvania on Wednesday night that if his party loses in November’s midterm elections, the “radical Democrat mob” will take away everything he has achieved since his election, while encouraging crime and socialism.

It was an echo of a tweet he sent over the weekend and used again at a rally in Iowa on Tuesday — giving rise to a line that Republicans have been quick to seize upon as they try to sustain a newly-enthused GOP base in the wake of the divisive confirmation battle for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“You don’t hand matches to an arsonist, and you don’t give power to an angry left-wing mob. Democrats have become too EXTREME and TOO DANGEROUS to govern,” Trump tweeted Saturday. “Republicans believe in the rule of law – not the rule of the mob. VOTE REPUBLICAN!”

Israeli reporter for ‘New York Times’ praises AIPAC at closed event: ‘You’ve got our backs’

Ronen Bergman, a staff writer for The New York Times Magazine, gave a talk to the Israel lobby group AIPAC in White Plains Monday night and lavished praise on AIPAC for its support of Israel.

“You know, I’ve been all over the U.S. with AIPAC and it’s always a great pleasure, as an Israeli. I always tell AIPAC, you do so much in the U.S., and I know that Israel is not the spirit of where you work, but you need to do a little more to explain to Israelis how much they owe AIPAC. Israelis are not aware. I am aware… I know that you’ve got our backs. It’s such a great feeling.”

AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, is famous for its work to prevent any “daylight” between the U.S. government and the Israeli government on policy and maintain support for Israel in the U.S. Congress. It has been the subject of numerous investigations– generally not in the US mainstream press, and certainly not the New York Times.

As Nikki Haley Resigns, Critics Forced to Clarify That "Pro-War, Pro-Imperialist" Sycophant for Trump Is No "Moderate"

Establishment Media Has Abandoned Objectivity and Engages Mostly in Agenda-Pushing

After reading The New York Times piece “The Plot to Subvert an Election” I put the paper down with a single question.

Why, after two years of allegations, indictments, and claims to proof of this, that, and the other did the newspaper of record—well, once the newspaper of record—see any need to publish such a piece? My answer is simple: The orthodox account of Russia-gate has not taken hold: It has failed in its effort to establish a consensus of certainty among Americans. My conclusion matches this observation: The orthodox narrative is never going to achieve this objective. There are too many holes in it.

‘THE GOOD CENSOR’: Leaked Google Briefing Admits Abandonment of Free Speech for ‘Safety And Civility’

An internal company briefing produced by Google and leaked exclusively to Breitbart News argues that due to a variety of factors, including the election of President Trump, the “American tradition” of free speech on the internet is no longer viable.

Despite leaked video footage showing top executives declaring their intention to ensure that the rise of Trump and the populist movement is just a “blip” in history, Google has repeatedly denied that the political bias of its employees filter into its products.

But the 85-page briefing, titled “The Good Censor,” admits that Google and other tech platforms now “control the majority of online conversations” and have undertaken a “shift towards censorship” in response to unwelcome political events around the world.

Examples cited in the document include the 2016 election and the rise of Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) in Germany.

Gomes joked about the unpredictability of President Donald Trump and groaned about the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China, which has slowed down Google’s negotiations with Communist Party officials in Beijing, whose approval Google requires to launch the censored search engine.

After overcoming the temptation to publish under a pseudonym, former Google PR executive Jessica Powell has finally dropped her long-awaited satirical novel/memoir "The Big Disruption" last week. In the highly anticipated book - and in an accompanying personal essay published on Medium - Powell offers what may be one of the most scathing critiques of Silicon Valley from a former executive at one of its biggest and most influential companies.

Digital activists are fighting to reclaim the web

Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web back in 1989, when he was working for CERN, "the European Organization for Nuclear Research [where] physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe." At his urging, CERN put the technology into the public domain, rather than trying to monetize it.

"On 30 April 1993 CERN put the World Wide Web software in the public domain. CERN made the next release available with an open licence, as a more sure way to maximize its dissemination. Through these actions (making the software required to run a web server freely available, along with a basic browser and a library of code) the web was allowed to flourish."

Twitter has locked my account – because I quoted a liberal making outrageous statements

Here’s what happened – I posted a video of an insane woman on MSNBC last night, who literally said that voting for “old conservative white women” was like accepting a dinner invitation from Hannibal Lechter, the fictional murderer and cannibal.

I paraphrased what she said in all caps, because it was so absurd.

JAMES WOODS: Twitter said THEY would delete the “offending” tweet for which I was locked out and which I refused to delete.

“As a conservative I am not about to walk on eggshells because of Twitter’s bias or liberal insanity in general.”

Former Google boss launches scathing Silicon Valley attack urging tech giants to end the delusion that it's making the world a better place

A former Google boss has launched a withering attack on the firm, calling technology giants deluded.

Jessica Powell said she had become tired of defending the company in her role as its top PR chief.

‘This is an industry that takes itself far too seriously, and its own responsibility not seriously enough,’ she added.

Jessica Powell said she had become tired of defending the company in her role as its top PR chief. Miss Powell, 40, launched her searing criticism in an essay and satirical novel, both published this week

‘I want Silicon Valley to end the self-delusion and either fess up to the reality we are creating, or live up to the vision we market to the world each day. Because if you’re going to tell people you’re their saviour, you better be ready to be held to a higher standard.’

Flashback: How the NDAA Allows US Gov to Use Propaganda Against Americans

The US government has unbound the legal regulations against using propaganda against foreign audiences and American citizens. The intention is to sway public opinion by using television, radio, newspapers, and social media targeting the American and foreign people in controlled psy-ops.

The newest version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has an amendment added that negates the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 (SMA) and the Foreign Relations Authorization Act of 1987.

These laws made propaganda used to influence foreigners and US citizens illegal. Without these laws, disinformation could run rampant throughout our information junkets.

Blanket Silence: Corporate Media Ignore New Report Exposing Distorted And Misleading Coverage of Corbyn

If there's one thing we've learned in the 17 years since Media Lens began, it's that media professionals generally hate being challenged, critiqued or criticised. This fierce antipathetical belligerence underlies the corporate media's total refusal to mention, far less discuss, a recent damning report on how the corporate media have been misreporting Labour and its supposed 'problem' with antisemitism.

The report was published last week by the Media Reform Coalition (MRC), set up in 2011 in the wake of the News International phone hacking scandal, to promote debate about the media and democracy. The MRC coordinates effective action by civil society groups, academics and media campaigners, and is currently chaired by Natalie Fenton, Professor of Communication and Media at Goldsmiths, University of London.

U.S. terminates 1955 Treaty of Amity with Iran:

Secretary of State Pompeo said Wednesday that the United States is terminating the Treaty of Amity reached with Iran in pre-revolutionary days, calling it an “absolute absurdity” given the tensions between the two countries.

The impetus for the United States tearing up the treaty was a decision earlier Wednesday in the International Court of Justice, which ordered the Trump administration to lift some sanctions on Iran. The top U.N. court, which is in The Hague, does not have the power to enforce its decisions, which are usually ignored by the United States anyway.
