It's the 2009 presidential election in Iran and opposition leader Mir-Houssein Mousavi declares victory hours before the polls close, insuring that any result to the contrary will be called into question. Western media goes into overdrive, fighting with each other to see who can offer the most hyperbolic denunciation of the vote and President Ahmadenijad's apparent victory (BBC wins by publishing bald-faced lies about the supposed popular uprising which it is later forced to retract). On June 13th, 30000 "tweets" begin to flood Twitter with live updates from Iran, most written in English and provided by a handful of newly-registered users with identical profile photos.

Mousavi, Celebrated in Iranian Protests, Was the Butcher of Beirut

He may yet turn out to be the avatar of Iranian democracy, but three decades ago Mir-Hossein Mousavi was waging a terrorist war on the United States that included bloody attacks on the U.S. embassy and Marine Corps barracks in Beirut.

Mousavi, prime minister for most of the 1980s, personally selected his point man for the Beirut terror campaign, Ali Akbar Mohtashemi-pur, and dispatched him to Damascus as Iran's ambassador, according to former CIA and military officials.

Iran Had a Democracy Before We Took It Away

Iranians do not need or want us to teach them about liberty and representative government. They have long embodied this struggle. It is we who need to be taught. It was Washington that orchestrated the 1953 coup to topple Iran’s democratically elected government, the first in the Middle East, and install the compliant shah in power. It was Washington that forced Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh, a man who cared as much for his country as he did for the rule of law and democracy, to spend the rest of his life under house arrest. We gave to the Iranian people the corrupt regime of the shah and his savage secret police and the primitive clerics that rose out of the swamp of the dictator’s Iran. Iranians know they once had a democracy until we took it away.

What Bush Told Blair Could End the Wars

In May 2005 we launched AfterDowningStreet.org to publicize the Downing Street Minutes. By June we'd had great, if fleeting, success. During the following months and years, mountains of new memos and statements emerged on the Iraq War lies, many of them more damaging than the Downing Street documents. But increasingly nobody cared, because evidence of crimes was less interesting once Congress had dropped the pretense that it might take action. The single most powerful, and yet largely ignored, document yet to emerge, might, now in 2009, finally, produce results. And, of course, it is our friends over in England who are, as always, two steps ahead of us.

Iraq, and Bush's Bizarre Fake UN Spy Plane Plot Back In The News

Bubbling under the surface of all this is a memo, whose existance was first reported in 2006, documenting a meeting between Bush and Blair during the run up to war (other Bush administration officials, including Condoleeza Rice were also present). In a kind of bizarre, dumbed-down version of LBJ's Gulf of Tonkin ruse, Bush allegedly proposed painting a U2 spyplane in U.N. colors and flying it over Iraqi airspace in the hope that Saddam shooting it down would give the U.S. the excuse they needed to invade. He also remarked that the date of the military invasion had been "penciled in," regardless of what developed at the UN.

Confidential memo reveals US plan to provoke an invasion of Iraq

A confidential record of a meeting between President Bush and Tony Blair before the invasion of Iraq, outlining their intention to go to war without a second United Nations resolution, will be an explosive issue for the official inquiry into the UK's role in toppling Saddam Hussein.

The memo, written on 31 January 2003, almost two months before the invasion and seen by the Observer, confirms that as the two men became increasingly aware UN inspectors would fail to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD) they had to contemplate alternative scenarios that might trigger a second resolution legitimising military action.

The Four Reasons the Mainstream Media Is Worthless

There are four reasons that the mainstream media is worthless.

1. Self-Censorship by Journalists

Obama, the Right and defendants' rights

On Thursday, the Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision (.pdf), ruled that convicted criminals have no constitutional right to access the state's evidence in order to subject it to DNA tests which could prove their innocence. Two lower courts, a district court and the Ninth Circuit, had ruled there was such a right. In reversing those rulings, the Court's
majority was composed of its conservative Justices (Roberts (who wrote the opinion), Scalia, Alito, Thomas, and Kennedy).

Numerous liberal commentators are, rightfully, infuriated by the decision, but have been notably incomplete in their critiques.
There's one important fact missing from all of that analysis: namely, this was yet another case where the Obama DOJ sided with the Bush administration and advocated the position that the conservative justices adopted.

(*As a state senator, Obama sponsored and lobbied for legislation that gave all inmates a post-conviction right to DNA evidence )

Distorting US Intel On Iran: Obama Follows Bush’s Lead, Again

Any intervention by the U.S. government on behalf of the Iranian opposition is destined to backfire given the role it played in overthrowing Iran’s last truly democratically elected prime minister and its subsequent support for the brutal dictatorial reign of the shah, a reality President Obama appears to be mercifully aware of in rejecting self-righteous calls from the likes of John McCain for him to show greater "solidarity" with the Twitter-savvy protesters. Lawsuit against US on IP trade agreement dropped for national security. Opposition to a sweeping trade agreement being negotiated in secret between the United States and at least eleven other countries, plus the European Union, is being voluntarily curtailed after an apparently successful effort by Obama administration officials to prevent parties in a lawsuit against US trade representatives from obtaining any information about that agreement. It's the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, the existence of which is about the only thing the government will barely acknowledge.

FBI: Child porn on accused museum shooter computer

Child pornography was found on a computer belonging to the white supremacist charged with shooting and killing a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the FBI said in court documents.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The bovine excrement meter exploded on this one.

As witnesses came forward to report that the security guard at the museum may have been shot by the other guards, Vin Brunn became less and less the villain the propagandists needed to link to Ron Paul, the 911 truth movement, anti-semites, and klog dancers, and a PR device was needed to re-demonize him.

Looks like they figured one out.

Frankly, my first assumption is that the FBI planted the child porn on the computer (they have the very next that taxpayer money can buy) both because it gets them out of a public relations jam and because at 88, I doubt Von Brunn was interested in any kind of sex at all! THE BONES OF "STATION H"

Contrary to the government propaganda that the attack on Pearl Harbor was a total surprise, documents declassified in May 2000 confirm that Yamamoto's message was intercepted in Hawaii at a radio intercept station known as "Station H" overlooking Kaneohe Bay on windward Oahu.

PEARL HARBOR MOTHER OF ALL CONSPIRACIES

11 February 1941 - FDR proposed sacrificing 6 cruisers and 2 carriers at Manila to get into war. Navy Chief Stark objected: "I have previously opposed this and you have concurred as to its unwisdom. Particularly do I recall your remark in a previous conference when Mr. Hull suggested (more forces to Manila) and the question arose as to getting them out and your 100% reply, from my standpoint, was that you might not mind losing one or two cruisers, but that you did not want to take a chance on losing 5 or 6."

World Can't Be Changed Without Fighting Western Propaganda

The era of brave reporters and determined editors seems to be over. Correspondents who covered the Vietnam War, who actually helped to stop the Vietnam War, are getting older. They write memoirs and publish books, but they hardly witness today's conflicts. There are still some fearless and dedicated journalists - Keith Harmon Snow or John Pilger to mention just two - but they are more exceptions that prove the rule than a common occurrence.

And yet brave alternative voices are needed more now than in any other time in recent history.

The Revolution Will Not Be Twitterized

Overnight we're being sold on the critical global relevance of these repositories of heretofore useless information about what the Average Joe is doing, thinking, saying, listening to, watching, reading and eating every 5 minutes. Now they'd like us to believe that Twitter and Facebook are fueling a revolution and serving as the vessel for democracy in Iran. Power to the @People.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Twitter has provably been hijacked as a new tool for propaganda, so of course you have to be told this is the place to go to get the "facts" about what is going on in Iran.

Flashback: Taking down Iran covertly, now Obama's agenda

Preparing the Battlefield
The Bush Administration steps up its secret moves against Iran.
by Seymour M. Hersh July 7, 2008
Under federal law, a Presidential Finding, which is highly classified, must be issued when a covert intelligence operation gets under way and, at a minimum, must be made known to Democratic and Republican leaders in the House and the Senate and to the ranking members of their respective intelligence committees—the so-called Gang of Eight. Money for the operation can then be reprogrammed from previous appropriations, as needed, by the relevant congressional committees, which also can be briefed.

Strange Inconsistencies in the $134.5 Billion Bearer Bond Mystery

Thus, all of the above irreconcilable and illogical points, other than the coincidence of the amount of the bearer bonds exactly matching the remaining TARP fund amount declared on March 30th, seem to indicate that not only were the seized bearer bonds counterfeit, but also that the smugglers were intent on being caught.

Under his leadership, the National Democratic party (NPD) made a string of impressive showings in regional elections in the late 60s, and there were widespread fears that it would gain representation in the federal parliament.

Yet, according to a report earlier this year in the Cologne daily, the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, the man dubbed "the New Führer" was working for British intelligence throughout the four years he led the NPD, from 1967 to 1971.

STUTTGART, Germany — A social science research center is under development at U.S. Africa Command headquarters, where researchers from the academic world are being recruited to help map the complicated human terrain on the African continent.
"We have no combat mission in Africa," said Col. Dean Bland, who is heading up AFRICOM’s research center effort and insists the social scientists would have no role in targeting people.

State Department undermines Obama reluctance over Iran with Twitter request

President Obama has ruled out direct intervention in the electoral turmoil in Iran, warning that US attempts to interfere will backfire and that America has little to gain by throwing in its lot with the opposition.

But his public reluctance to interfere has been undermined by the actions of the State Department, which took the unusual step of asking Twitter to delay planned maintenance work so that Iranian protesters can continue to use it to post images and reports of unrest.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Guards shot 8 times, one hit Von Brunn

Chance Put Museum Guards in Place to Take Down Shooter
By Aaron C. Davis and Paul Duggan
Washington Post Staff Writers
Saturday, June 13, 2009
One man had never fired a gun in the line of duty, and for the other it had been more than 25 years. But when the moment came Wednesday in the entryway to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, neither hesitated: Harry Weeks and Jason McCuiston drew their side arms and dropped James W. von Brunn in a hail of gunfire, authorities say.

McCuiston said they don't know which of the eight rounds law enforcement sources have said the two men got off struck von Brunn in the head: "Neither one of us knows, and neither one of us wants to know."

Suitcase With $134 Billion Puts Dollar on Edge

Are these would-be smugglers agents of Kim Jong Il stashing North Korea’s cash in a Swiss vault? Bagmen for Nigerian Internet scammers? Was the money meant for terrorists looking to buy nuclear warheads? Is Japan dumping its dollars secretly? Are the bonds real or counterfeit?

The implications of the securities being legitimate would be bigger than investors may realize. At a minimum, it would suggest that the U.S. risks losing control over its monetary supply on a massive scale.

The trillions of dollars of debt the U.S. will issue in the next couple of years needs buyers. Attracting them will require making sure that existing ones aren’t losing faith in the U.S.’s ability to control the dollar.

The U.S. government’s case for embargoing the release of photographs said to depict abuse of detainees rests largely on a questionable claim that disclosure of the images would endanger U.S. troops.

There is very good reason to believe that that letter was a fake – and a significant one because there is equally good reason to believe that it was one product among many from a new machinery of propaganda which has been created by the United States and its allies since the terrorist attacks of September 2001.

For the first time in human history, there is a concerted strategy to manipulate global perception. And the mass media are operating as its compliant assistants, failing both to resist it and to expose it.

The ADL Developes New Catch Phrase in order to Define Yours Truly

Since they are no longer able to smear me with the label "white supremacist," some moron at the ADL developed an entirely new catch phrase, "anti-Semitic figure" in order to define me and people like me, i.e. anyone critical of Jewry that cannot be labeled a klansman, nazi or white supremacist. As Al Jazeera's 24-hour station takes to the air in English and with other new Arab English-language media initiatives such as the Ramallah-based Palestine Times fresh off the press, Israel has begun effectively using a new weapon in its public diplomacy arsenal to fight the media war on the Web - a locally-developed computer software tool called the "Internet Megaphone."

The Wreck of the Patrick Fitzgerald: Why is Patrick Fitzgerald threatening to sue HarperCollins?

Well, I guess Patrick Fitzgerald is going to have to sue HarperCollins, just like he threatened. He says that Peter Lance's book, Triple Cross contains lies and false accusations about him, and thus, the book must be pulped!

The real problem with Lance's book is not that it is brimming with lies, but rather that Lance's tendentious prose enforces the general paradigm put forward by the 9/11 Torture Commission*, while at the same time exposing seriously problematic aspects of the run-up to 9/11 that fail to lay down and die like they should. Cheney tied to cash theft and possible murder in Iraq

According to an informed source, Dick Cheney, while vice president, amassed a fortune in cash stolen by U.S. occupation forces in Iraq from Saddam Hussein and some of his leading officials and advisers.

Sources report to WMR that U.S. troops confiscated “billions” in currency found stored in aluminum containers in various secret caches in Baghdad and elsewhere. Our sources report that the seized cash was transferred to accounts run by Cheney and the money is now being partly used to fund Cheney’s growing political opposition movement to the Obama administration, including secretive payments to a “stay behind” group of Cheney loyalists who burrowed into senior civil service positions from political appointee jobs during the Bush administration. Cheney’s loyalists are now in key positions to stymie Obama’s programs and policies within a variety of cabinet departments and federal agencies.
