STIMULUS ABOUT TO FAIL IN SENATE | A GREAT DAY FOR SANITY

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS New York Times Online | Sat- Feb 7. 2009

Obama Calls Stimulus Necessary to Save Jobs

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama on Saturday championed his economic stimulus plan as ''absolutely necessary'' -- if imperfect -- while Republicans dug in against a bill they said hadn't even been written, let alone properly reviewed or sufficiently revised.

''This is still a very big spending bill,'' Kyl said during a rare Saturday session on the Hill. ''You can't fix it by simply shaving a little bit off.''

He also sought to bring Republicans into the mix, pledging to listen to them, praising the late-Friday negotiations.

GOP leaders, however, said the rhetoric didn't match what was written.

"A False Premise"

The closer you examine it, the clearer it is that neoconservatism, in large part, is simply about enabling the most irredentist elements in Israel and sustaining a permanent war against anyone or any country who disagrees with the Israeli right. That's the conclusion I've been forced to these last few years. And to insist that America adopt exactly the same constant-war-as-survival that Israelis have been slowly forced into. Cheney saw America as Netanyahu sees Israel: a country built for permanent war and the "tough, mean, dirty, nasty business" of waging it (with a few war crimes to keep the enemy on their toes).

New York Times Online | SOLOMON MOORE | Thur- Feb 5, 2009

Forensic evidence that has helped convict thousands of defendants for nearly a century is often the product of shoddy scientific practices that should be upgraded and standardized, according to accounts of a draft report by the nation’s pre-eminent scientific research group.

The report by the National Academy of Sciences is to be released this month. People who have seen it say it is a sweeping critique of many forensic methods that the police and prosecutors rely on, including fingerprinting, firearms identification and analysis of bite marks, blood spatter, hair and handwriting.

Feb. 3 (Bloomberg) -- A record 19 million U.S. houses stood empty at the end of 2008 as banks seized homes faster than they could sell them and prices continued to fall.

Vacant homes in the fourth quarter increased by 6.7 percent from the same period a year ago, the U.S. Census Bureau said in a report today. The vacancy rate, the share of empty homes for sale, rose to 2.9 percent in the quarter, the most in data that goes back to 1956.

RPI drew criticism from a faculty leader and an alumnus when the institute surfaced on a long-secret list of foundation contributors that Clinton released in December. Rensselaer later said the money reflected not a donation but $36,000 in "membership fees" to join the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI).

President Obama made a “surprise visit” to the White House Press Room on Thursday. Undoubtedly, this was not an impulse or an accident, but a calculated attempt to create a new kind of photo-op. The idea was almost certainly to make news about the newness of this President not hiding from public-minded questioning. The assumption must have been that the WH press corp would be so bowled over by Obama’s entrance that they’d fawn and gush over him and pump out puff pieces proclaiming his newness and openness.

Turns out, the reporters took advantage of the unheard-of chance by actually asking Obama a question!

FDIC Failed Bank List

This is a link to the FDIC that lists the publicly acknowledged failed banks. We're off to a good clip already in 2009 compared to 2008 which was itself a notable year for bank failures, also noted on this web page.

The unacknowledged failed banks are not listed on this FDIC web page. The unacknowledged failed banks are the ones on life support through Treasury Department give-away programs.

The unacknowledged list would likely include about 95% of U.S. banks, and surely every large bank in the U.S.

It is perhaps remarkable to note, that when bank finances fail, regardless the reason, and the banking executives are facing losing their jobs, they simply go to the government for more money with which to pay salaries and bonuses.

The question that may never go away: Who really is Barack Obama?

In his autobiography, "Dreams From My Fathers", Barack Obama writes of taking a job at some point after graduating from Columbia University in 1983. He describes his employer as "a consulting house to multinational corporations" in New York City, and his functions as a "research assistant" and "financial writer".

The odd part of Obama's story is that he doesn't mention the name of his employer. However, a New York Times story of 2007 identifies the company as Business International Corporation.10 Equally odd is that the Times did not remind its readers that the newspaper itself had disclosed in 1977 that Business International had provided cover for four CIA employees in various countries between 1955 and 1960.11

Rewriting the First Draft of History

Seeing as how we currently find ourselves hurtling along this downhill run towards new history - the countdown to the day America has itself a president named Obama can be measured in hours instead of days or weeks now - it seems an appropriate moment to pause and reflect on a bit of older history we've already passed through. I'm not talking about any kind of ancient history, mind you. For the purposes of this reflection, we need only take a small leap backwards in time, just six short years ago.

We all passed through the little slice of history that began to take shape in the early months of 2003, and we all remember that time in our own way. Today, however, there is a great deal of effort being expended to make sure this bit of history is remembered differently than how it really happened. An even better result for those exerting this effort would be if this bit of history were not remembered at all. That may, in fact, be their ultimate goal.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – President-elect Barack Obama said Wednesday that Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden remain the "number one threat" to US security, after a new voice recording emerged from the terror group's leader.

"Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda are our number one threat when it comes to American security," Obama told reporters, after the recording warned the president-elect of new fronts in bin Laden's self-styled holy war against Western interests.

"We're going to do everything in our power to make sure that they cannot create safe havens that can attack Americans. That's the bottom line," Obama added.

The 22-minute audio recording, which the US-based Site Intelligence Group said it believes is authentic, was the first commentary from the Al-Qaeda leader in eight months.

The media coverage of the war in Gaza by Western television companies is largely unfair and biased because of a refusal to show viewers the real images of the victims.

One of the reasons for this is Israel’s decision not to allow the Western media in to Gaza.

In addition to this outrageous censorship by a so-called democracy, we get the usual arguments that most of the images shown by the Arab media are too shocking to show the viewing public in the West.

Admittedly, the horrific clip sent to me of a child’s head lying detached, among debris in Gaza did make me gasp.

But this is war and this is real and if the Western media did show these sort of images maybe the general public would wake up to the full horrors of what happens when bombs are dropped on civilian populations.

Remember the Map: Israel, Exxon, and the AEI.

In regards to the Ukraine colluding with the U.S. in shutting off the Natural Gas to the EU from Russia: all roads lead back to 911, the great game, and the oil terminal in Haifa, Israel.

Guess What? Lots Of Oil, Natural Gas In Gaza!

To find the real reasons behind conflicts and wars in this world, you need to follow some or all of four things: Money, blood, power or natural resources (usually oil or natural gas but it can be cobalt like in the Congo).

Oil is behind the conflicts in Darfur, Somalia and other similar places.

The war in Afghanistan was never about finding bin Laden. It was about uniting Afghanistan into a single government so a pipeline could be constructed to bring a million barrels a day from areas north of Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia to markets (http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig/sardi7.html).

We need to stop listening to what the "official" media tells us when it comes to conflicts and wars because the official media is corporate and government owned and/or controlled by government. Less than one percent of the "news" in the world today is reported and what is reported is usually heavily edited and slanted for propaganda purposes.

Not the Biggest Scandal

Average Americans, nearly half of whom reportedly believe that the earth was formed just 6000 years ago and a fair proportion of whom believe that the sun revolves around the earth, might be excused for not understanding this point, but clearly intelligent members of Congress like former Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry and future secretary of state Hillary Clinton, who both claim they might not have voted for war "had they had known then what they know now," are themselves caught in a lie.

Opinions are divided on whether Thomas Tamm, the original source for The New York Times 2005 story on the NSA's warrantless wiretapping, should be prosecuted for revealing classified information. Tamm is a former justice department prosecutor.

Some bloggers think Tamm is a patriot. They are encouraging readers to contribute to his defense fund. A blogger at Empty Wheel writes:

Attorneys: Fort Dix Terror Plot Was “Planted And Nurtured” By FBI Informants

Lawyers in a case relating to a much vaunted 2007 terror plot have concluded that FBI informants were the key figures behind the operation and that the accused, six foreign-born Muslims, were merely bungling patsies.

Defense attorneys have denied there was any plot, arguing two FBI informants concocted and encouraged the conspiracy because they were being paid and promised legal immigration status, reports the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

The Mumbai based group alleged that Al-Qaeda is a front organization of CIA and MOSSAD. "There is enough evidence that the Al-Qaeda is a front organization of the CIA and MOSSAD. The Bush junta has used the bogey of terror and of Al Qaeda to justify his unending and ever expanding Global War on Terror, which is only a means of capturing the resources of the world and of establishing the sole hegemony of Israel in West Asia," said the group of activists and intellectuals. The group is holding a press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday to "expose the links between Al-Qaeda and the CIA-MOSSAD".
