Prison Spending Outpaces All but Medicaid

The New York Times March 2, 2009 Solomon Moore

One in every 31 adults, or 7.3 million Americans, is in prison, on parole or probation, at a cost to the states of $47 billion in 2008, according to a new study.

As states face huge budget shortfalls, prisons, which hold 1.5 million adults, are driving the spending increases.

One in 11 African-Americans, or 9.2 percent, are under correctional control, compared with one in 27 Latinos (3.7 percent) and one in 45 whites (2.2 percent).Only one out of 89 women is behind bars or monitored, compared with one out of 18 men.

Our Worst Enemies Aren't Terrorists: Rethinking National Security on a Sinking Planet

Today, "homeland security" and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), that unwieldy amalgam of 13 agencies created by the Bush administration in 2002, continue to express the potent, all-encompassing fears and assumptions of our last president's Global War on Terror. Foreign enemies may indeed be plotting to attack us, but, believe it or not (and increasing numbers of people, watching their homes, money, and jobs melt away are coming to believe it), that's probably neither the worst, nor the most dangerous thing in store for us.

Bush Lawyers Approved Constitution-Free Domestic Military Ops, Docs Show

The Justice Department secretly authorized President George Bush to use the military inside the United States to snoop on, raid and even kill citizens in order to fight terrorism without regard to the Fourth or Fifth Amendment, according to a Oct 23, 2001 memo released by the Obama Administration Monday.

"We do not think a military commander carrying out a raid on a terrorist cell would be required to demonstrate probable cause or to obtain a warrant," the Office of Legal Counsel memo (.pdf) said. "We think that the better view is that the Fourth Amendment does not apply to domestic military operations designed to deter and prevent future terrorist attacks."

Is the U.S. Paying Off the Italian Government for Forging the Niger Documents?

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn) and others have alleged that the contract for 28 Marine One helicopters was awarded to the Italian firm Finmeccanica as a thank you for Italy's participation in the Iraq War. The evidence, however, indicates that the contract was more specifically a payoff to the Italian government for supplying the forged documents showing Saddam had obtained weapons grade uranium from Niger. President Bush famously used this fraudulent "yellowcake" intelligence to justify launching the war.

The New York Times March 2, 2009 William K. Rashbaum

Prosecutors of the prostitution case that exposed Eliot Spitzer as a client are appealing a court order directing them to unseal records that may shed light on the origins of the investigation.

The prosecutors, from the United States attorney’s office in Manhattan, filed a notice in court on Monday saying that they would appeal Judge Rakoff’s ruling to the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, a decision that was made by senior Justice Department officials in Washington.

FLASHBACK - Pressure Grows for F.B.I.’s Anthrax Evidence

About 18 months ago, investigators appeared to sharpen their focus on Bruce E. Ivins, a veteran anthrax researcher, whom they placed under intensive surveillance as they examined every aspect of his life and work.

Since Dr. Ivins’s suicide last week, F.B.I. officials have said prosecutors were preparing to indict him for sending the anthrax letters, which killed five people, although charges appear to have been a few weeks away.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Now, of course, Sandia labs has shown that the special investigative science invented by the FBI for this case was about as useful as the now-discredited Neutron activation analysis used to claim that Lee Oswald was the only one shooting in Dealey Plaza back in 1963.

But here is the point all these articles about the anthrax attacks avoid. Regardless of whether you suspect Dr. Stephen Hatfill, or Dr. Bruce Ivins, or Dr. Philip Zack of committing the crime, the letters themselves, written to look like they were from semi-literate Arabs, PROVES THERE WAS AN ATTEMPT TO FRAME ARAB MUSLIMS FOR TERRORISM INSIDE THE UNITED STATES!

So, let us include that in our efforts to find the real criminal from the above suspects. Of the three doctors, which one would have a reason to frame Arabs for his crime?

The facts is that only one of the three, Dr. Philip Zack, has a prior record of racially motivated acts. And by odd coincidence, Dr. Zack is the one man actually detected by the security systems entering the lab where the anthrax used in the letters was kept, without authorization after losing his job over a racially motivated attack no an Egyptian co-worker!

But the FBI has never investigated Dr. Zack. Indeed they seemed to want to avoid him as much as possible.

Details surrounding two crucial meetings on the eve of the conflict were laid bare for the first time yesterday when former Cabinet Minister Clare Short, who was present at both, gave a full account of what happened.

She told The Mail on Sunday the main reason for the ‘scandalous’ decision not to publish the minutes was not to protect confidential discussions about the war, but to cover up the fact there was no such discussion.

Some researchers make challenging and troubling claims, which threaten to overturn major aspects of the Holocaust story:

* Key witnesses to the Holocaust have either falsified or greatly exaggerated important aspects of their stories.

* The figure of “six million” has little basis in fact. This number, which theoretically could only have been known after the war, actually traces back decades before.

* Major death camps, like Belzec, Sobibor, Chelmno, and Treblinka, have vanished “without a trace”—as have most of their alleged victims. Such a thing is not possible.

* Both of the alleged means of gassing victims—Zyklon-B (cyanide) and carbon monoxide from diesel exhaust—are impractical, unworkable, and simply ridiculous.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Here is a little bit of history.

This is the headline of March 24th, 1933 reporting the boycott against Germany declared by the world's bankers following Hitler's abandonment of the debt-based banking system imposed on Germany after WWI and the establishment of a monetary system based on fixed units of worth. This simple change had turned Germany's economy around to the point where TIME Magazine declared Hitler their man of the year for his success in revitalizing Germany. But such a system was a direct threat to the profits of the bankers.

The bankers, terrified that the rest of the world would see the obvious advantages in the new German system, set about to wreck the new German economy and by so doing set the stage for WWII.

But, take a close look at the story at the left in which it is reported that the total Jewish population of Germany in 1933 was only 600,000!

She may be a first-rate fabulist, but Edmonds’s account is full of dates, places, and names. And if she is to be believed, a treasonous plot to embed moles in American military and nuclear installations and pass sensitive intelligence to Israeli, Pakistani, and Turkish sources was facilitated by figures in the upper echelons of the State and Defense Departments.

A Justice Department inquiry has found that the Bush administration's legal opinions justifying the torture of "war on terror"- detainees were hastily drafted after one prisoner was already subjected to waterboarding, a practice that creates the sensation of drowning, according to several sources familiar with the still-classified report.

The implication of the finding is that John Yoo and other lawyers for the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel violated ethical standards by collaborating with senior White House officials to create legal cover for violating anti-torture and other federal statutes after the fact, rather than providing objective advice for future actions.

PROPAGANDA ALERT - Kuwaiti Professor Fantasizes Of A Biological Attack On The White House

Webmaster's Commentary:

Look carefully at the logo on the screen. This translation is provided by MEMRI, the Middle East Media Research Institute, located in Washington DC (and subsidized by the taxpayers) which provides free translations of Arab broadcasts to the western media.

However, MEMRI has been outed as an agent for the Israeli Government. MEMRI was founded in 1998 by Yigal Carmon, a Colonel in the Israeli Intelligence Services. Norman Finkelstein reports MEMRI is a Mossad operation.

In this article which appeared in The Guardian, Brian Whitaker calls MEMRI's impartiality into question.

So, we need to be very careful about this video as the translation might be altered just enough to shift the meaning. Remember when Ahmadinejad said that "Israel's government must vanish from the pages of history" and it was mistranslated into "Israel will be wiped off of the map?" The same might well be happening here. The individual in this video might well be trying to warn us about a false-flag attack which is about to occur to start WWIII.

FLASHBACK - The Case Against bin Laden

The American case against Osama bin Laden has now been put before the world, thanks to Britain's prime minister, Tony Blair. Mr. Blair said Thursday that his review of the evidence left ''absolutely no doubt'' that Mr. bin Laden and his terrorist network were responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks. Some Americans may be wondering whether the world will find those assurances from our closest European ally particularly convincing. But the report released by Britain, in a move coordinated with the White House, demonstrates that the Bush administration has enough information about the links between Mr. bin Laden, the Taliban leadership of Afghanistan and the terrorist assaults to make a strong case.

"The crash also resulted in the loss of Ruth Harel-Katz, 52, an Israeli woman who was living in the US, and George Abu Karam, 27, from Tiberias [Israel] who worked as a security guard and had served in the Israel-backed South Lebanon Army."

Kucinich: Who Told SEC to "Stand Down" on Stanford Probe?

In a report published in the February 17th edition of the New York Times, an SEC official said that an inquiry had been opened on Stanford in October of 2006. According to the Times report, an associate regional director of enforcement said the SEC "stood down" on its investigation as a result of the intervention of another federal agency...."If the SEC did indeed begin an inquiry in 2006 and was called off by another agency, our subcommittee will demand that the SEC reveal the name of that agency which told it not to enforce federal laws which protect investors," said Chairman Kucinich.

Hezbollah 'not behind attack on Israel'

Hezbollah has ruled out any involvement in recent rocket attack on northern Israel that was responded by Israeli artillery shells.

"Hezbollah has nothing to do with this attack," a spokesman for the movement, Ibrahim Mussawi, told AFP on Saturday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In other words, this is another false-flag attack.

Rocket from Lebanon wounds three Israelis

At least one rocket fired from Lebanon landed in northern Israel on Saturday, lightly wounding three people and prompting Israel to respond with a brief artillery barrage, the Israeli army said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Lebanon's President has previously expressed the opinion that Israeli collaborators are behind these rockets, to give Israel an excuse to restart the war.

Prince of Darkness Denies Own Existence

Of course Perle is going to deny that he was one of the main architects of the neoconservative doctrine, the foundations of the New World Order that Kissinger, Bush, Blair, and Gordon Brown are saying we must adopt.

Now that that shit is hitting the fan, all the things that he and the neocons, the Israeli Likudites like Netanyahu, the no-government Republicans like Grover Norquist, the West Texas oil idiots, and the Bush crime family morons have planned are about to come to pass, they're gonna need to hide out until the apocalyspe passes, hunker down during the chaos, the mass die-off of billions of people, denying they had anything to do with it.

*Lastly, explain to your now terrified, comatose children, that the current global economic melt-down was another act of terror, part of the strategy of fear enacted by elite-run global central banks: siphoning billions of dollars from the Pentagon, Iraq crony contacts, from the central banks of the United States and Europe, in the aftermath of the CDO melt-down, to off-shore island bank accounts and in Israel, as part of the strategy of global mass-hysteria; so that the world would blindly go along into the New World Order. SWINDLER'S LIST - Madoff Trustee: No Securities Bought in 13 Years

The trustee in charge of untangling the mess brought on by the Bernard Madoff scandal told investors Friday there was no indication the disgraced financier bought securities for his clients.

"We have no evidence to indicate securities were purchased for customer accounts," said Irving Picard, the court-appointed trustee overseeing the liquidation of Madoff's assets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How else do you explain the contract for the President's new fleet of 28 helicopters going to an Italian company while American aviation workers are on unemployment.

U.S. Tries a Trillion-Dollar Key for Locked Lending - TALF is a boldly transparent theft!

The New York Times February 19, 2009 VIKAS BAJAJ

High returns - Because investors borrow most of the money from the government at a low rate, the effective return could be 20 percent or more. [100% is the likely return even as these investments lose 90% of the equity the government puts into them.]

Limited losses - Even if the underlying loans default, the investor could lose only up to $8 [per $100]; the Treasury and Federal Reserve would bear the rest of the losses.

Investor pays $8 - GOVERNMENT LENDS $92 at 1.5%-3% interest
$100 loan yield 4%-5% interest

[And the initial $8 investment is no doubt to be recouped in fees, so there is no investment at all, just a trillion dollars given away. READ the graphic. This is Tim Geithner's giveaway.]

The Oligarchs' Escape Plan

This is the text of an email I sent Dr. Micahel Hudson at the University of Missouri:

Dr. Hudson,

Recently, in an article of yours published on CounterPunch entitled, "The Oligarchs' Escape Plan" you stated: "Since the 1950s the International Monetary Fund has made loans to support Third World exchange rates long enough to subsidize capital flight."

Who’s behind Madoff?

WMR has also learned that the kid glove treatment given by federal authorities to Madoff, including allowing him to remain in his Upper East Side luxury town home, is because Madoff’s Ponzi scheme was part of a much larger operation, one involving top officials of both the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations, as well as the notorious Russian-Israeli Mafia.

Sarkozy, Carlyle Group/US gov't in banking collusion?

District's Carlyle Senses a Profit in Toxic Bank Assets, Buyout Firm Raises $1 Billion
By Thomas Heath
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, February 16, 2009; Page D03

District-based Carlyle Group, a giant private-equity firm, has raised around $1 billion and hopes to add $2 billion more for investments in financial institutions that come up for sale under President Obama's economic rescue plan, according to people familiar with the company's plans.

The buyout firm will use the money to help with the recapitalization of banks whose balance sheets have been rocked by toxic mortgage assets and are in need of cash, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly. The financial crisis has crippled institutions big and small.

FLASHBACK - Al Qaeda's Chief Of Ops Has Startling Background

In the April 19 issue, American Free Press reported on the little-noticed point that Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the purported chief of operations of the Al Qaeda terrorist network, had told U.S. interrogators that the Sears Tower in Chicago was also an intended Al Qaeda target-a significant fact in light of evidence that Israeli operatives taken into custody on U.S. soil after the 9-11 terrorist attacks were carrying detailed videotapes of the Sears Tower.

The truth is "hate speech" only to those who have something to hide

Israel's supporters constantly spin any criticism of Israel's actions as hate against the Jewish people. Indeed so desperate are Israel's supporters to dismiss criticism of Israel while being unable to refute the actual facts that they have taken to describing Jewish critics of Israel as "self-hating Jews."

Webmaster's Commentary:

I decided to relink this one because Israel's supporters are once again screaming "Anti-Semite" at every mention of the war crimes committed in Gaza.

This is, of course, silly. One cannot dismiss criticism of Israel's actions by claiming the critics hate Jews any more than one can dismiss criticism of Nazi Germany's actions by claiming the critics hate Germans. Only a compliant corporate media suggests that what is absurd in the case of Hitler somehow makes sense in the case of Olmert.

What’s the Big Deal about the Holocaust?

So, why is the Holocaust such a big deal? Because it’s a major leg propping up the New World Order and the people behind the curtain — no doubt about it. They know that if you start asking questions about any of this, soon it will lead to a whole helluva lot more. And it’s so easy to see all the reasons (below), that they’ve pushed this version of history on America and the White countries of the West — all the while knowing how much outrage the public would have for being lied to.

Feb 18 15:21

What Does Holocaust Denial Really Mean?

Are these revisionist contentions so odious as to cause those who believe them to be reviled, beaten, and imprisoned? More importantly, is it possible that revisionist contentions are true, or even partially true, and that they are despised because they contradict the story of the Holocaust, a story which has been elevated to the level of a religion in hundreds of films, memorials, museums, and docu-dramas?

Is it sacrilegious to ask, “If Hitler was intent on extermination, how did Elie Wiesel, his father, and two of his sisters survive the worst period of incarceration at Auschwitz?” Wiesel claims that people were thrown alive into burning pits, yet even the Israeli-trained guides at Auschwitz refute this claim.

"Looking Ahead" or Overlooking Crimes Against Humanity

I am a little stunned. I have been watching the news and listening to all the chatter about the scandal surrounding Gov. Rod Blagojevich and the alleged impropriety of people like Bill Richardson and Tom Daschle.

Watching all this, I’ve been thinking, “Somewhere in Texas, former President George W. Bush is clearing brush in perfect peace.” Former Vice President Dick Cheney is likely out duck hunting in Wyoming, as if he has every right to be walking around free.

Like we are supposed to forget their crimes.

Prosecute Bush for war crimes

How Gerald Ford's Pardon of Nixon Enabled Bush's War Crimes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Once Nixon knew he was doomed, he dumped Spiro Agnew and brought Ford in the be Vice President. The reason was simple. Among the items sought after in the break-in of the Democratic National Headquarters were photos taken in Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas on November 22nd, 1963 that showed three of the "tramps" clearly enough to identify two of them as E. Howard Hunt (the reason he led the break-in) and Frank Sturgis, both Nixon henchmen in 1963.
(The photos eventually did resurface in an expose published by the Liberty Lobby. Hunt sued and lost when witnesses were found that placed him in Dealey Plaza at the time.)

Remember that Nixon was a shoe-in for re-election against McGovern because of all the dirty tricks done by Segretti and his ilk at CREEP. Nobody could understand why the break-in had happened at all. A full investigation of the motive for the Watergate break-in would have unraveled the cover-up of the JFK assassination, which is why Nixon resigned rather than allow a Senate trial.

Gerald Ford had been on the Warren Commission that covered up the conspiracy and put the blame for the killing of JFK on the lone gunman, Oswald. So, prior to resigning, Nixon tossed Agnew and brought in Ford knowing that Ford, likely to be as threatened by exposure of the cover-up as anyone else, would work to protect the secret and by extension, Nixon.

Yes, there was probably an explicit understanding that Ford would pardon Nixon as the price for being made VP, then President. But Ford's pardon protected Ford as much as Nixon.

Would a G.M. Bankruptcy Save Taxpayer Money?

The New York Times Business Michael J. de la Merced Feb 16, 2009

It is a stance that Mr. Altman, who is the director of N.Y.U.’s credit and debt markets research program, has publicly espoused for some time. Chief among his concerns now, however, is not only reaching a way to restructure G.M. and Chrysler in the least painful way for the companies, but also to protect the billions of dollars in government money lent to the companies.

The $13.4 billion that G.M. received in December was made in a way that ensures that the government is what is known as a senior secured lender, with assets backing up the loan.

"Worst Is Yet to Come:" Americans' Standard of Living Permanently Changed

Yahoo! Finance Tech Ticker | Posted Feb 17, 2009 |

An Interview with Howard Davidowitz

But "the worst is yet to come," according to Howard Davidowitz, chairman of Davidowitz & Associates, who believes American's standard of living is undergoing a "permanent change" - and not for the better as a result of:

* An $8 trillion negative wealth effect from declining home values.
* A $10 trillion negative wealth effect from weakened capital markets.
* A $14 trillion consumer debt load amid "exploding unemployment", leading to "exploding bankruptcies."

The end of rampant consumerism is ultimately a good thing, he says, but the unraveling of an economy built on debt-fueled spending will be painful for years to come.
