A Poem On War

Beyond the count of years I walked the world,

and my children built their shrines to me.

Decades and centuries and millennia pass,

and still the shrines are built.

Temples insubstantial to men,

clear to my eyes.

No foundations or walls or roofs,

but shrines nonetheless.

Holy ground, consecrated

Today, every day, somewhere in the world,

the earth is prepared for my coming.

My hallowed grounds are everywhere.

In valleys and on mountains,

on broad plains and deep in hidden passes,

in deserts, on city streets.

Nameless, unremembered places.

People interested in this opportunity should look into contacting the Interrelations Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO)/Pastors for Peace organization. There are currently 146 US students in the program at LASM with full scholarships and they seem to be doing very well.

The Day After Damascus Falls

The Saudi-Israeli alliance has gone on the offensive, ramping up a “regime change” war in Syria and, in effect, promoting a military victory for Al-Qaeda or its spinoff, the Islamic State. But the consequences of that victory could toll the final bell for the American Republic, writes Robert Parry.

If Syrian President Bashar al-Assad meets the same fate as Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi or Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, much of Official Washington would rush out to some chic watering hole to celebrate – one more “bad guy” down, one more “regime change” notch on the belt. But the day after Damascus falls could mark the beginning of the end for the American Republic.

Russia to carry on with modern weapons supplies to Cuba — Defense Minister Shoigu

"We intend to continue cooperation in supplying the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces with modern weapons and military hardware," Shoigu said at a meeting in Moscow with Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas.
According to the Russian defense minister, the Russian-Cuban cooperation received an additional boost following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Havana last year.
"Our cooperation in the military sector is actively developing and my February meetings in Havana proved our common drive toward the expansion of our partnership relations in the military and military-technical spheres," the Russian minister said.
Shoigu also thanked Cabrisas for warm receptions provided by Cuba to Russian warship each time they call on the Havana port.

Did Russia lose Cuba to the Americans?

From the very early 1960s onwards relations between Moscow and Havana were described as “unbreakable and fraternal,” and Cuba itself was referred to as the “Island of Freedom.” Today, in the words of well-known columnist Andrei Kolesnikov, Cuba is drifting out of Moscow’s orbit.
But let’s take a closer look. Did Moscow really let Cuba “slip through its fingers”? And if so, let’s try to answer another question: Could Russia have clung on to its ally?

Hillary Clinton – the ‘Liberal’ Puppet for War

Hillary Clinton this week launched her bid for the US presidential elections in 2016.

Hillary Rodham Clinton is lambasted by Republicans as a «liberal».

Whether described as «liberal», «conservative» or «hawk» – all American presidential candidates are the same in practice. Puppets for sale.

US History of Coup-Making Overshadows Obama's Outreach to Iran, Latin American Left

It is the first time that Cuba attended the 21-year-old Summit of the Americas, which was meeting for the seventh time. Former Florida governor and expected Republican presidential primary candidate Jeb Bush criticized US President Barack Obama for holding talks with Cuban leader Raul Castro while refusing to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the latter’s last trip to Washington.

“Obama meets with Castro but refused to meet w/ Netanyahu,” Bush tweeted Sunday. “Why legitimize a cruel dictator of a repressive regime?”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, Jeb, since you obviously have not been paying attention, Castro didn't try to upstage Obama with a grandstanding speech before Congress. Castro hasn't had his hand out every year for billions of taxpayer dollars while building a nuclear arsenal that makes all that financial aid illegal under US law, and wheras Israel has started war after war after war, creating a mess in the Middle East that Israel expects the US to clean up, Castro has been pretty much minding his own business. And if you don't understand that difference, you are far too stupid to be President!

Poets’ Talk: “Why Is This World So Sad?” And, “The Armor of God”

GC: Why is this world so sad? Do you have a religious answer? A faith-based answer?

CO: Life is suffering, and the ancient story of John the Baptist and Herod belongs to modern history…. Our “Herod” (POTUS) stands militarily above all other nations, and only Russia seems to stop the U.S. from cutting off (bombing) any head(s) our Controllers desire.

They intimidate the Vatican, and instead of “putting on the armor of God,” (St. Paul), the Roman Catholic Church often acquiesces, and by the “sin of omission,” helps hasten the making of a Rich Man & Lazarus world, an inevitable War of Civilizations.

At any rate, how will that “Ole Time Religion” square with this basically unimaginable world towards which we are racing?

Partner or Pariah? Kerry Calls Lavrov for Help

Naming and shaming over the Iranian nuclear debacle will call out who just is the real pariah and who is the real partner to world peace.

Reading the Western news media is like swimming in a goldfish bowl. News one day gives way to some other transient story the next, and so on and on. With the result that if one were to rely on the Western media for understanding on any particular issue, there is faint chance of proper assimilation. This is because there is typically negligible context, perspective or continuity – as well as, of course, misleading spin and outright disinformation.

To illustrate: one of the most bizarre – unwittingly bizarre – recent news reports was how US Secretary of State John Kerry made an urgent call to Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. Kerry reportedly needed Lavrov for help in clinching a breakthrough in the deadlocked nuclear negotiations with Iran.

Documents Reveal Covert US, UK, NATO Propaganda War in Ukraine

Documents posted on the web reveal a high-level anti-Russian propaganda war being waged in south and eastern Ukraine by the US, the UK and NATO on behalf of the Kiev Government, using non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as agents.
According to the Drakula blog, the West is raising its game in its campaign against Russian President Vladimir Putin. While it is — on the one hand — pumping up the military volume by moving NATO and US hardware nearer to the Ukraine and Russian borders, it is also playing a hybrid war by pumping funds into an anti-Russian propaganda war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, I am very concerned that this propaganda war is going to generate a hot war against Russia, using Ukraine as the puppet cutout.

I would very politely like to point out to our Military, our State Department, our White House, and all the "Alphabet Soup" agencies looking at this post as I type it, that the US military does not have the troop strength; the money; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia; and that is what makes the military option so scarily dangerous.

I have noticed a definite "pump up the volume" going on with Corporate Presstitutes against Russian Leadership. And what I am hearing, very frankly, can only be characterized as desperation on the cusp of madness.

I would like to strongly caution all those in government, intelligence, and the military, that the citizens of this country are infinitely war-weary, and war sick, to be brutally honest.

China and Russia have gotten what they need by making deals; not by waging wars.

It is high time the US government got the hint. People in this country are hurting badly, and those in government had better start paying attention. The good middle-class jobs have been outsourced and off-shored to the cheapest labor pools in the world, and the only jobs available, many times, for laid-off Americans are simply minimum wage.

But of course, the flood of cheap labor into this country in the form of undocumented immigrants is really exacerbating the palpable anger the American people feel toward a government which has been bought by large corporations, and have only their good in mind.

This country cannot afford any more wars, both fiscally, and morally.

Cuba – Between a Rock and a Hard Place

On 17 December 2014, President Obama declared that 55 years of embargo didn’t work in bringing ‘freedom’ to Cuba. He proposed reestablishing diplomatic relations with the southern neighbor. An emotion of joy shook the world, especially Latin America. Raul Castro received wires and calls of congratulations. Cubans cheered “we won, we won!” – The US Congress right wing was not quite ready for this initiative and, indeed, there was no concrete mention of how and when the ‘blockade’ would be lifted.

Two days after Obama’s bold initiative, on 19 December 2015, he went to the Washington Press Club to tell a horde of puppet journalists, conservative politicians and onlookers that soft measures, like reestablishing diplomatic relations with Havana might be more successful in bringing the desired regime change to Cuba than more years of isolation. He couldn’t have been more direct and more honest about his intention. The Cuban Government and whoever else listened didn’t miss the point.

US Supreme Court hands Cuba a victory over its cigars

The US Supreme Court declined to intervene in a long-running battle between a US and Cuban company over the Cohiba cigar trademark. By refusing to hear an appeal, the country's highest court leaves intact a ruling in favor of the Cuban firm.

Due to a US trade embargo with Cuba, Cubatabaco cannot sell its Cohiba cigars in the United States while they are sold worldwide and in Cuba. US company General Cigar sells its Dominican Republic-produced Cohiba cigars in the US. The legal dispute is over whether the Cuban company has to the right to challenge General Cigar’s trademark in the US, despite the embargo, as reported by Agence France Presse.

Raúl Castro Puts the Ball in the U.S. Court

The first public speech by the Cuban leader would define whether Cuba and its government would falter, or whether it had some magic formula for managing the subversive plan created by the White House.

If we read the reports filed by most journalists, Castro only said that changes to Cuba’s internal affairs would not be permitted. But he said much more than that, even delineating the principles that would govern the talks over bilateral relations.

Yet it’s almost as though the reporters couldn’t be bothered.

And suddenly, we are seeing a torrent of Miami “consultants” trying to capitalize on the process by issuing imaginative statements about what they think will happen next.

Revisions to the decades-old embargoes between the United States and Cuba are now scheduled to go into effect this Friday, implementing major changes this week to the long-standing trade and travel restrictions between neighboring nations.

New policies, announced by the Obama administration on Thursday this week, are expected to allow American travelers contained in 12 categories to travel to Cuba without applying for specialized licenses, alleviating restrictions that have largely excluded the US public from the island for more than 50 years.

In addition to easing travel restrictions, The Hill reported that the changes from the Departments of Treasury and Commerce will allow travelers to bring back to the US upwards of $400 worth of goods, including $100 in alcohol and tobacco products, such as Cuban cigars.

The Problem With Obama's Cuba Speech

"In the most significant changes in our policy in more than fifty years, we will end an outdated approach that, for decades, has failed to advance our interests, and instead we will begin to normalize relations between our two countries," Obama said in a live televised speech from the White House.

The problem with the policy is that it "failed to advance our interests," according to Obama. When he speaks of "our interests", he is of course referring to corporate business interests, not the public interest. Deciding an economy should belong to the population rather than unaccountable private interests is an affront to businesses that believe they have a right to operate in foreign markets and control local resources.

On Tuesday, the intensive care specialist was headed to the epicenter of the Ebola epidemic along with 90 other Cuban medical workers as part of a half-century-old strategy that puts doctors on the front lines of the country's foreign policy.

The 91 nurses and doctors going to Guinea and Liberia join 165 already in Sierra Leone — making this island of 11 million people one of the largest global contributors of medical workers to the fight against Ebola.

Cubana Flight 455: Remembering the Victims of US-Supported Terrorism

During that meeting, over 20 assembled individuals representing terrorist factions founded CORU, an anagram for the Coordinación de Organizaciones Revolucionarias Unidas, headed by Orlando Bosch, in response to CIA director George H. Bush’s demand that the offensive against the Republic of Cuba be centrally co-ordinated under CIA direction and funding as part of Operation Condor. That same month, June, 1976, Bosch is on record that he sent a bomb to the Cuban embassy in Ottawa, aimed at hindering the relations between Canada and Cuba and enforcing the illegal U.S. blockade of Cuba, one of many targets attacked by Cuban-American terrorists inside and outside the territory of Canada during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

Cuba must send home Canadian entrepreneur, MP says

A Canadian businessman sentenced in Cuba to 15 years in prison on corruption-related charges should be sent back home, said a Toronto-area MP who called the conviction a “travesty of justice.”

“But what about democracies? Well, the truth is that they too are run by political and economic elites whose interests are rarely the same as the general public. That is why, when the government uses the term “national interest,” one should always be suspicious’ Dr. Lawrence Davidson

China to fund $6 Billion refinery expansion in Cuba

China is taking another great leap forward in its Latin American energy plans, raising Cuba's energy importance in the process, with a deal to lead a $6 billion refinery expansion project on the communist island, experts said this week.

The project, to be funded mostly by China's Eximbank, is the latest of several significant moves in the region for the Asian power as it continues to expand its global influence.

For Cuba, the refurbishing of its antiquated refinery in the coastal city of Cienfuegos will provide an outlet for oil it hopes to tap soon in the Gulf of Mexico, while also laying the groundwork for the island to possibly become a key oil transhipment point for the Caribbean basin.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I mention this is passing, only to point out that if it were not for the consistently insane US boycott of Cuba, access to that oil could well have gone to US companies.

US companies have business relationships with - and investments in - countries like Viet Nam, for heaven's sake!!

The Israel Lobby is so powerful because it deliberately set out to establish control over key elements in the United States. It has demonstrated a number of times that politicians who are perceived as being unfriendly to Israel will face serious problems

Flashback: On October 6, 1976, anti-Castro terrorists murdered seventy-three people on Cubana Flight 455 off Barbados.

On October 6, 1976, anti-Castro terrorists murdered seventy-three people on Cubana Flight 455 off Barbados.

Declassified letters and reports (like below from FBI Director Clarence M. Kelley to Henry Kissenger) show that the United States Government knew of the plot beforehand and not only that: they knew exactly who was involved almost four months before the bombing.

For over three decades the US government has protected the terrorists. This outrage continues under the Obama Administration and undermines whatever moral authority the United States retains in the persecution of its war in Iraq – a “part-time hobby” war with no end in sight.

Not Guilty. The Israeli Captain who Emptied his Rifle into a Palestinian Schoolgirl

Palestinian witnesses said they saw the captain shoot Iman twice in the head, walk away, turn back and fire a stream of bullets into her body. On the tape, Capt R then “clarifies” to the soldiers under his command why he killed Iman: “This is commander. Anything that’s mobile, that moves in the [security] zone, even if it’s a three-year-old, needs to be killed.”

Fidel Castro fascinated by book on Bilderberg Club

HAVANA – Fidel Castro is showcasing a theory long popular both among the far left and far right: that the shadowy Bilderberg Group has become a kind of global government, controlling not only international politics and economics, but even culture.

The 84-year-old former Cuban president published an article Wednesday that used three of the only eight pages in the Communist Party newspaper Granma to quote — largely verbatim — from a 2006 book by Lithuanian-born writer Daniel Estulin.

Estulin's work, "The Secrets of the Bilderberg Club," argues that the international group largely runs the world. It has held a secretive annual forum of prominent politicians, thinkers and businessmen since it was founded in 1954 at the Bilderberg Hotel in Holland.

Obama's pledge to close down Guantanamo is 'not even close'

Barack Obama's pledge to shut down Guantanamo Bay will not be honoured until at least a year after the President's self-imposed deadline – and may not be completed in his first administration.

The man in charge of the seven prison camps at the US naval base in Cuba is yet to receive direct orders to begin the transfer of prisoners so he can close the detention facilities.

Crisis. What Crisis? Profits Soar!

By James Petras

The capitalist state, with Democratic President Obama in the lead, has transferred billions to big capital via direct bailouts, virtual interest free loans, tax cuts and by pressuring labor to accept lower wages and health and pension givebacks. The White House plan for ‘recovery’ has worked beyond expectations – corporate profits have recovered; “only” the vast majority of workers have fallen deeper into crises.

Fidel Castro warns of nuclear war between US and Iran

The revolutionary leader revealed that he believes the US and Israel may launch a nuclear attack on Iran, as the dispute about the Tehran government's own nuclear programme continues.

"If war breaks out the current social order will suddenly disappear and the price will be infinitely greater," Mr Castro said.

The veteran politician added that nuclear war would change the world order and that it is up to Cuba and other nations to persuade Barack Obama not to attack Iran or North Korea.

Fifty one years ago the biggest whorehouse and gambling casino in the Carribean closed its doors permanently. Fifty one years ago the United States was faced with the greatest challenge in its entire history…. a challenge that came from a mere ’90 miles from home’.

Cuba was free! Despite every possible attempt to turn the clocks backwards, Cuba remains free!!

Embargoes, blockades, attacks, invasions …. nothing worked!

The Source of Wars

On July 4, I said that neither the United States nor Iran would give in: “one, prevented by the pride of the powerful, and the other because it has the capacity and the will to fight oppression, as we have seen so many times before in the history of mankind.”

In nearly every war, one party wishes to avoid it and, sometimes, the two parties do. This time it will happen although one of the parties does not wish it. That was the case of the two World Wars of 1914 and 1939, only 25 years one from the other.
