Feminist Accuses English Language Of Being Sexist, Gets Brilliantly Schooled By Linguist

It started off with a premise that, to be fair, deserves discussion and scrutiny. A Tumblr user, who refers to herself as ‘Feminist Chewbacca’ wanted to discover the root causes of patriarchal domination in society, and turned to the English language to investigate the inherent sexism it allegedly contains.
In these days of fake news and agenda pushing however, it has never been more important to check your facts. This is where Feminist Chewbacca came unstuck. Reblogging a post she had found on Visual Poetry, she had probably not counted on being fact-checked by an actual linguist. Her poorly chosen examples were deconstructed one by one, until she began to look rather basic, and a bit silly.

Is YOUR child's name lower class? Mother provokes furious debate by claiming hyphenated monikers such as Ava-May belong on council estates where parents 'sit at home on benefits' (10 Pics)

A mother has provoked a furious debate over baby names by claiming that hyphenated monikers are 'lower class'.

The argument was provoked by a post on the British parenting forum Netmums by a mother who said her partner is insisting on a double barrelled name for their child, but she's seen some negative reaction to the idea in the past.

A fellow mother was quick to explain her dislike, saying that all the children she knows with names such as Ava-May live on council estates.
'There's considerable number of girls with May, Rose, Leigh etc tagged on the end,' she said. 'So yes, I see them as lower class.'

Exclusive — Jeff Sessions: Recognizing ‘Signals and Signs’ Could Prevent Shootings

Attorney General Jeff Sessions told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview on Thursday morning that school shootings such as those that occurred in Parkland, Florida on Wednesday could be prevented by allowing local law enforcement to intervene with troubled individuals.

“All of law enforcement is deeply concerned about this trend of violence in schools and other, similar places,” he said, noting that he had discussed the issue with an organization of local law enforcement officials Thursday morning.

“I was with the Major County Sheriffs’ Association this morning, and they all said, and believe, that there are signals and signs before these shootings that, if recognized, could lead to intervention, and could stop these events from occurring.”

Ann Coulter: Anatomy of a Coup

Contrary to every single person talking on MSNBC, the issue is not whether FBI agents are allowed to have political opinions. In a probe of the president, FBI agents shouldn't be dying to take him down for political reasons.

But the staff on a special counsel's open-ended investigation of the president aren't supposed to be hungry. They're supposed to be fair.

The UK’s hidden hand in Julian Assange’s detention

"It now emerges that the last four years of Julian Assange’s effective imprisonment in the Ecuadorean embassy in London have been entirely unnecessary. In fact, they depended on a legal charade.

"Behind the scenes, Sweden wanted to drop the extradition case against Assange back in 2013. Why was this not made public? Because Britain persuaded Sweden to pretend that they still wished to pursue the case.

"In other words, for more than four years Assange has been holed up in a tiny room, policed at great cost to British taxpayers, not because of any allegations in Sweden but because the British authorities wanted him to remain there. On what possible grounds could that be, one has to wonder? Might it have something to do with his work as the head of Wikileaks, publishing information from whistleblowers that has severely embarrassed the United States and the UK." >>

Corporate Giant Demands Crackdown on Independent and Alternative Internet Content, Call for Online Censorship

he drive to censor the Internet took another step this week with a public statement by Keith Weed, the chief marketing officer for the London-based multinational Unilever, threatening to withdraw advertising from social media platforms if they fail to suppress “toxic content.”

Weed reportedly told an annual leadership meeting of the Interactive Advertising Bureau in Palm Desert, California that the company “will not invest in platforms or environments” that “create divisions in society, and promote anger or hate.” He added,

“We will prioritize investing only in responsible platforms that are committed to creating a positive impact in society.”

Excerpts of Weed’s remarks—the most explicit of their kind from a major corporate executive—were leaked to several media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal and the Guardian. They were immediately featured on NBC News and other major American news outlets on Sunday. The Journal’s report was accompanied by an interview with Weed.

Trump threatens retaliatory actions against China, S Korea

Meanwhile, China, which produces nearly half of the world’s steel, is accused of flooding the market in order to keep its economy robust at home.

“I will make a decision that reflects the best interests of the United States, including the need to address overproduction in China and other countries,” Trump said.

“They’re dumping and destroying our industry, and destroying the families of workers, and we can’t let that happen,” he added.

Although the president has another two months to make a decision on possible penalizing action, he strongly indicated that he wants to punish Beijing.

Experts, however, say that any such action will prompt China to do the same, raising the specter of a trade war between the world’s two largest economies.

Trump is under pressure at home as he has not been able to deliver on his campaign promise of being a champion of America’s Rust Belt.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Upon reading this, I am having a double Picard face-palm, at warp speed.

After really needing nore cooperation with China on the issue of North Korea's nuclear program, and desperate to convince South Korea that Kim Jung Un's overtures to South Korea were really just theatrics, President Trump's timing of these threats against China and South Korea just possibly could have been worse: I just don't know how.

Putting annexation row behind them, Netanyahu, Trump set March meet

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with US President Donald Trump next month when he visits Washington for the annual AIPAC confab, a White House official said Wednesday.

The meeting will come after the White House shot down Netanyahu’s assertion Monday that the US and Israel were discussing proposals for Israel to annex West Bank settlements, marking an unprecedented rebuke of the prime minister by the Trump administration.

The AIPAC conference, an annual gathering of pro-Israel figures, is scheduled from March 4-6 in Washington.

An official told Israel’s Hadashot news that the annexation kerfuffle “is already water under the bridge and has no consequence to our relationship with Netanyahu.”

Netanyahu’s comment Monday was made at a faction meeting of his right-wing Likud party, whose top body unanimously passed a resolution in December urging its leaders to formally annex parts of the West Bank and allow unlimited construction in the settlements.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Every time an Israeli Prime Minister makes the pilgrimage to DC, I get somewhat nervous; but this particular meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, has me literally close to an industrial-strength panic attack.

And why?!?

First, because Netanyahu may be charged with corruption charges, which makes him a politically wounded animal; and the "human animal" is at their most dangerous when they are politically wounded.

The same holds true for Netanyahu; and that will probably escalate the timetable for more attacks on Syria; Lebanon, and perhaps Iran.

Secondly, it is at these kinds of meetings where the President "signs off" on just how much mayhem he or she would "greenlight" for Israel in their next phase of grabbing more territory to itself.

This meeting comes in about 3 weeks; and these two have a very tight friendship.

But I very strongly caution the President about making any moves to greenlight any actions against Iran, or commiting to US troops to fighting in order to accomplish regime change in Tehran.

Tel Aviv wants to see this happen; however, primarily at the costs of American blood, and American money.

We'll know what transpired between the two probably the middle of next month, courtesy of movements both in the air, and on the ground in the Middle East, in terms of military activity we see by either Israel and/or the US.

Animosity Toward US Brings Turkey, Russia, and Iran Together for Summit on Syria

The leadership of Turkey, Iran, and Russia have all agreed to attend an upcoming summit in Istanbul on the topic of Syria, with the date for the meeting to be decided soon. Looming large over this is US relations.

Those three nations have met in the past on trying to get a peace process going in Syria, but right now the big issue on all their minds is increasing hostility from the US.

Turkey’s invasion of northern Syrian Kurdish territory has them facing potential conflict with US troops embedded in Manbij. The Pentagon has made clear their presence in Syria is at least in part intended now to fight Iran, and over the past week, US forces killed scores of Russians in the east.

These three nations weren’t seemingly all seeing eye-to-eye on Syria, but the acrimony with the US risks being a major unifier for them, with countering the US agenda in Syria likely a top priority for all.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The invasion of Syria by the US military demonstrates just how lousy US foreign policy, seemingly driven by wanting a "revenge death match" against both Al Assad and Putin, for kicking out US-backed jihadists in Syria, is now going from bad to unimaginably worse.

My sense is that the refusal of the US military to get its troops out of Manbij, where they are embedded with Kurdish fighting forces, is going to translate into a situation where these troops will become the US government's "sacrificial lambs" with which to justify further incursions into Syria, and direct military conflict with Russia, and potentially against Turkish troops in Syria as well.

NATO members met yesterday and today, in a series of meetings chaired by NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg.

NATO meeting held 14-15 February, in Brussels.

I am sure that Turkey - and its invasion of Syria - is very much on their minds.

Will NATO ultimately vote to intervene in Syria militarily, should the US ask it to?!?

Stranger things have happened.
