South Korea's president pardons 6,500 criminals including CEOs convicted of embezzlement because of their "contributions to the national economy"

South Korea’s President Park Geun-hye on Thursday pardoned a tycoon convicted of embezzlement who heads the country’s third-largest business group.
The justice ministry said in a statement that SK Group’s Chey Tae-won will be among some 6,500 people to be released from prison before the 70th anniversary Saturday of Korea’s liberation from Japan’s colonial occupation.

People caught illegally downloading Dallas Buyers Club have a big win in the Australian court, they only need to pay the cost of the movie plus a couple of dollars.

More than 4700 customers of internet providers who illegally downloaded the Hollywood blockbuster Dallas Buyers Club have won a reprieve in the Federal Court of Australia.
This means instead of being fined up to $9500 for making an illegal download customers will probably pay only the retail price of the film plus costs. This is likely to amount to less than the cost of a speeding ticket or late video fine.

The US Air Force is sending 12 A-10 Warthogs to eastern Europe to deter Russian aggressionRead more: http://www.businessinsider.com/air-force-sending-planes-to-east-europe-2015-8#ixzz3ityOETdS

The Air Force didn’t help its long-standing argument that the A-10 Thunderbolt II attack jet should be retired when the service announced this week it would deploy more of the aircraft to Europe this fall.

The 23rd Wing at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia announced it will send 12 attack planes and crews to Central and Eastern European to bolster NATO’s “Operation Atlantic Resolve,” an ongoing show of military might meant to deter Russian aggression in the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

WHAT "Russian aggression"?!?!? Can someone, please, show me some incontrovertible facts, proving that this has happened?!?

This demonizing of Russia appears to be a prelude to a hot war against it by NATO and the US. This is simply pre-positioning of equipment toward that end.

Police Threaten Journalists, Targeted, Abused and Arrested in Ferguson for “Doing Their Job”

They demand no media reports on everything they want suppressed. Since Ferguson protests erupted on the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s murder by killer cop Darren Wilson, journalists again were targeted.

This week alone, three were arrested and charged with interfering with on-duty police officers. What’s happening reflects war on responsible journalism – criminalizing reporters for doing their job.

On Tuesday, Canadian TV (CTV) Los Angeles Bureau Chief Tom Walters was charged with interfering with police nearly a year after he was arrested covering Ferguson protests last August.

At the time, he was pinned to the ground and handcuffed – then detained after asking Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson a question. Video recorded his arrest. He was then released uncharged after over eight hours in detention.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The whorespondents on the alleged "TV news" are failing to mention this outrage against reporters in Ferguson; they are not mentioning that Ukraine is shelling Donbass with white phosphorus weapons, provided by the US government; and they are not mentioning the horrific conditions in Gaza and the West Bank under which Palestinians are suffering.

These people do not want to give you the information you need to make informed, rational decisions; they want to keep you beholden to the lies that the government is truthful, and will only do things "for the good of the nation".

And the point of realization that you have been lied to , all these years, will make you realize that there is a very severe "disconnect" between what you are told, and are supposed to believe, by these outlets, and what the truth and reality on the ground is, around the world.

46 million Americans go to food banks, and long lines for dwindling food supplies begin at 6:30 AM

Those that run food banks all over America say that demand for their services just continues to explode. It always amazes me that there are still people out there that insist that an “economic collapse” is not happening. From their air-conditioned homes in their cushy suburban neighborhoods they mock the idea that the U.S. economy is crumbling. But if they would just go down and visit the local food banks in their areas, they would see how much people are hurting. According to Feeding America spokesman Ross Fraser, 46 million Americans got food from a food bank at least one time during 2014. Because the demand has become so overwhelming, some food banks are cutting back on the number of days they operate and the amount of food that is given to each family. As you will see below, many impoverished Americans are lining up at food banks as early as 6:30 in the morning just so that they can be sure to get something before the food runs out.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Take a good, hard look at the faces of these kids; are they and their families "enjoying recovery", or have the parents awakened one morning to find out that their jobs have been offshored/outsourced to the cheapest source of global labor?!?

Pentagon Seeks More Funds for ‘Sustained’ War With Russia

In the eternal quest to drive up the already preposterous level of US military spending, Pentagon officials are talking up the notion of Russia as an “existential threat” to the United States, and running tabletop war games which they say show the US military isn’t as “ready as we want to be” for a sustained ground war in Russia.

That the US and Russia each have enough nuclear weapons to annihilate most life on the planet has long made the war-gaming for a long US-Russia war ultimately pointless: no one would survive long enough to enjoy the “win” anyhow. That hasn’t stopped the Pentagon from envisioning protracted campaigns on Russian soil with conventional weaponry.

The conclusion: most Pentagon officials figure the US would almost certainly defeat Russia in this drawn-out war, but after drawn-out wars in Iraq and Afghanistan it is “not a sure bet.” That’s a problem looking for a solution, and at the Pentagon, the solution is always only a few hundred billion dollars away.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like the Pentagon is ramping up for war without end, at a point where homelessness and malnutrition, particularly for American kids, has soared, and where US infrastructure is crumbling.

The American people have become all but irrelevant and completely useless to those in Congress and the military.

And just because the US outspends Russia on weaponry is absolutely no guarantee that it will work as well, or better, than Russian military equipment. In fact, cost many times, is very high for US weapons, and the weapons do not work at all as advertised.

While The UK Panicked Over Calais Migrants, Hundreds Of Others Died At Sea

While Britain has been in uproar over hundreds of migrants trying to storm the Channel Tunnel and enter the U.K. in recent weeks, a much larger and more deadly crisis has been taking place on another European shore.

Around 3,000 people, mostly from countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, reside in a squalid camp in France's Calais known as the Jungle, waiting for a chance to reach Britain. The long-ignored crisis escalated last month as ever larger groups of migrants used the cover of night to try to climb through fences and push back police in an attempt to sneak into the EuroTunnel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US and its minions have been waging war, sometimes overtly, sometimes covertly, against so many countries in the Middle East, South and Central America, Africa, and Asia, that it is a wonder we don't have more externally displaced people who can never go home again.

But where is the compassion for these people, translated into just, humane policies with which to alleviate their distress?!?

That, in the bluster of France and Britain against them, is nowhere to be found.

Barber Gives Free Cuts To Kids Who Read Aloud In His Chair, And It’s Shear Genius

An Iowa barber has developed a creative way to get kids reading.

Courtney Holmes, a barber in Dubuque, offered free haircuts to kids who read out loud to him during an appointment on Saturday, USA Today reported. The initiative was part of a back to school event, and Holmes hopes the storytelling will help young students strengthen their reading skills.

"The kids would come in, and I would say, 'Go to the table and get a book you might like, and if you can't read it, I'll help you understand and we can read it together,'" Holmes told the news outlet.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With so much going so badly around the world, it is nice, for at least a moment, to focus on someone who is doing a great thing for kids.

Bravo, Mr. Holmes: well done!!

Acoustic Cannon Sales to Police Surge After Black Lives Matter Protests

During a company conference call with financial analysts last week, Tom Brown, the chief executive of LRAD, a military contractor, informed investors that sales were rolling in, not just from Chinese government agencies and the U.S. Navy, but also from American law enforcement.

LRAD manufactures an acoustic cannon that can be used either as a mounted loudspeaker or as a weapon to fire deafening noises at crowds of people.

Over the last year, following a wave of protests over officer-involved killings of black Americans, LRAD has seen an uptick in inquiries from police departments around the country.

Brown told financial analysts in a May conference call about the “renewed interest” from police departments. “A lot of grant money starts to flow to law enforcement, and we’re getting a lot of inquiries” following protests, he said. One inquiry he mentioned came from the Maryland Sheriff’s Department following the protests in Baltimore over the death of Freddie Gray.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, let me get this straight; instead of actually addressing the out of control policing which has lead to assassinations of African American members of the community, and addressing the economic policies which have caused utter despair in many of those communities. police departments are, instead, buying more destructive equipment with which to bully and intimidate those communities?!?

This is so wrong, on so many levels, I hardly know where to start.

12-minute video: US military do War Crimes for .01% liars, Orwellian opposite of Oath to US Constitution

*hyperlinks/video live at source*

Mark Passio’s 12-minute video by 1stageofawareness:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIfcDGIvTSk&feature=youtu.be

The time is coming for one of two futures:

Critical mass recognize Emperor’s New Clothes facts of .01% crimes centering in war, debt that we use for money, and lies. As in the story, recognition ends the tragic-comedy. Our real-world story will end in lawful arrests for these obvious crimes.
The Orwellian crimes continue to escalate from current ~100 crucial areas, continuing to reduce all Earth’s inhabitants to work animals of the .01% requiring “culling of the herd” (or worse).

Choose wisely.

"Not Legal Tender"? City Refuses to Allow Man to Pay His $25 Parking Ticket with 2,500 Pennies

Since when are pennies and nickels not a form of legal tender in this country? Our Fed fiat money is still money. We aren't a fully cashless society... yet.

Justin Greene, a Pennsylvanian who attempted to protest what he felt was an unfair $25 parking ticket by paying for it with 2,500 pennies in Chambersburg, was told he couldn't because... federal law says the coins aren't legal tender.

Greene reportedly got the ticket for parking on the wrong side of the street for ten minutes when he went back to a job site to pick up some tools he left behind. To protest what he felt was an unfair situation, Greene showed up to pay his fine with thousands of pennies only to be told that a federal law says pennies and nickels are not legal tender for transactions over 25 cents.

Oh, wait, make that a repealed federal law from 50 years ago!

Animas River May Remain Toxic for Decades

Ever since the EPA accidentally dumped 3 million gallons of toxic mine water into the Animas River, Colorado authorities have been keen on reopening the river for public use as soon as possible. The river is a significant source of tourist income in the region, and they don’t want the toxic spill to put a damper on their summer.

Governor John Hickenlooper is one of those authorities, and he’s determined to prove that everything is back to normal. So on Tuesday, after being given the challenge by the Durango Herald, he decided to take a big gulp of river water for the cameras. After 24 hours, he reported that he was still in perfect health.

However, that hardly proves that the river is safe, at least in the long-term.

AIPAC: Headed for Defeat (But That’s Not Why It’s Bad for the Jews)

snip: The willfully blind don’t yet see it and those who shamelessly do what Israel orders don’t care, but the conventional wisdom is fast becoming that Obama has had it with Netanyahu and that he is finally growing a pair.

True enough: the old Obama would have represented Israeli interests in the Vienna negotiations as unabashedly as all Republican and some Democratic Senators and Representatives still do; and he would have shied away from the chances of reaching a successful conclusion just as soon as it became clear that the Iranians were not about to surrender unconditionally to Israeli demands.

Israel, Congress and the Iran Nuclear Agreement

snip: ‘The Iran deal threatens the very existence of Israel.’ Ho-hum. We keep hearing this, anytime anyone dares do or say anything in opposition to Israel. When someone suggests that perhaps United States aid to Israel, greater than that given to all other countries combined, could fantinapossibly go to better use serving the taxpayers whose pockets it is being extracted from, Israel interprets such ideas as anti-Semitic, clear evidence that another Holocaust is around the corner, and needing the support of the U.S. Congress to quash such destructive thoughts. If one mentions the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, suffering caused by the illegal Israeli blockade, Israeli spokespeople accuse the speaker of denying Israel its right to defend itself. Yet when Israeli government officials call Palestinians ‘beasts’, and advocate their complete annihilation, well, what does that really matter?

Mexico Government Gives Free TVs to Millions of Poor… With High Definition Social Programming

For better or for worse, television has been how many see the world.

It is a “mediated” experience that shows the viewer exactly what the programmer wants him to see… and believe.

Television has been a remarkable tool of manipulation and indoctrination, and has now created several generations of zombies, morons and dullards here in America.

But poorer parts of the world do not have these things, or at least typically do not have such a close experience with them.

Now, that’s changing. Mexico’s government just spent approximately $1.6 billion dollars to make sure nearly everybody is exposed to the flickering suggestion of the television set – and all that high definition broadcasts and flat screens have to offer.

Setting pace with global standards in an age of massive information and almost universal connectivity is a major interest as well.

American cops wonder why Clinton not indicted for alleged email fraud

The allegations against Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that she had at least two top-secret classified information emails stored on her private server are the latest in a long and tedious process involving the Clinton family and their depiction of themselves as being victimized by Republicans, according to a growing number news reports on Thursday. And many American law enforcement officers are wondering why the Justice Department is dragging its feet to investigate and indict Mrs. Clinton when they regularly imprison Americans for the same types of alleged offenses.

Can You Trust a Country That Has Violated 20 International Agreements?

snip: On the other hand, it is AIPAC’s view that any killing that Israel does has been “GOOD” and must be “GOOD”. To say otherwise and accuse Israel is not simply to be supportive of human rights, or possibly anti-Zionist, but also possibly to be branded as that old enemy that went out of fashion in the 20th century with the Third Reich or at least has been thoroughly discredited and meets with not a fiber of serious intellectual support: anti-Semitic. If one is not to risk being accused of hating Jews or even hating oneself if one is Jewish, one must by this perforation and shredding of logic, by this muddling of distinct ideas, support Israel and all of its genocidal and expansionist policies in all important respects. One must regard nuclear weapons in Israel’s hands as inherently “GOOD” too.

6th Planned Parenthood video released

A Los Angeles Superior Court previously issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting the Center for Medical Progress from releasing videos featuring leaders of StemExpress, a company that provides blood, tissue and other specimen to biomedical researchers.

David Daleiden, head of the Center for Medical Progress, told CNN's New Day last month that StemExpress leaders are "very scared" that he will release the videos.

"Stem Express is trying to suppress a specific video recording of a meeting with their top leadership where their leadership admitted that they sometimes get fully intact fetuses shipped to their laboratory from the abortion clinics that they work with and that could be prima facie evidence of born-alive infants," he said.

Fact Check: Was Planned Parenthood Started To 'Control' The Black Population?

Ben Carson alleged in an interview with Fox News Wednesday that Planned Parenthood puts most of its clinics in black neighborhoods to "control the population" and that its founder, Margaret Sanger, "was not particularly enamored with black people."

Planned Parenthood has been a target on the campaign trail after a series of sting videos was released alleging the organization illegally profits from selling aborted fetal tissue. Carson, a famed neurosurgeon turned Republican presidential candidate, has been a vocal opponent of the group.

HUMA ABEDIN PLEDGES TO PRESERVE EMAILS AFTER JUDGE’S ORDER

Two aides to former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton have agreed not to delete any work-related emails or documents following an order from a federal judge that they preserve the records, according to their lawyers.

The pledges from Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills are contained in court documents submitted by the State Department this week as a part of a public records lawsuit brought by the conservative group Judicial Watch.

That lawsuit sought records related to Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state, specifically documents about the work of Abedin, Clinton’s former deputy chief of staff.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan last week ordered Abedin and Mills to preserve their emails and records, which their lawyers say they have agreed to do.

Photos Show Prison Guards Escorting Crying Female Inmate into Planned Parenthood

Columbia, South Carolina – Two correctional officers with the South Carolina Department of Corrections were photographed on May 30, 2015, escorting an obviously distraught female inmate into the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Columbia, South Carolina.

The handcuffed woman was wearing tan prison attire as she was accompanied into the Planned Parenthood facility – presumably for an abortion — by two uniformed prison guards. She was visibly upset and wiped away a tear as she entered Planned Parenthood.

It is doubtful that the prisoner was at Planned Parenthood for anything other than abortion since prisons have infirmaries that handle routine gynecological care and treatment. Her apparent emotional state also gives rise to concerns that she may have been pressured or coerced into an abortion.

Renting in America Has Never Been This Expensive - Los Angeles residents are now spending half their income on rent

Americans living in rentals spent almost a third of their incomes on housing in the second quarter, the highest share in recent history.
Rental affordability has steadily worsened, according to a new report from Zillow, which tracked data going back to 1979. A renter making the median income in the U.S. spent 30.2 percent of her income on a median-priced apartment in the second quarter, compared with 29.5 percent a year earlier. The long-term average, from 1985 to 1999, was 24.4 percent.

Pentagon blocking Guantánamo deals to return Shaker Aamer and other cleared detainees

The Pentagon is blocking the return of UK permanent resident Shaker Aamer and two other longtime Guantánamo Bay detainees for whom the US Department of State has completed diplomatic deals to transfer home, the Guardian has learned.

American and UK diplomats reached an agreement in late 2013 for the return of Aamer, who has spent more than 13 years at the infamous detention facility without charge, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the understanding.

But even as the White House pledged to make his case a priority after a personal plea from David Cameron, Barack Obama’s defense secretaries have played what one official called “foot-dragging and process games” to let the deals languish.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Pentagon is loathe to release some of these prisoners of war because in some cases, water-boarding was not the worst that was done to them.
And this is very graphic language, folks, but you need to understand what was done with your money and in your name, outsourced to such "freedom loving" countries as Pakistan and Morocco:

Benyam Mohammed travelled from London to Afghanistan in July 2001, but after September 11 he fled to Pakistan. He was arrested at Karachi airport on April 10 2002, and describes being flown by a US government plane to a prison in Morocco. These are extracts from his diary. They cut off my clothes with some kind of doctor's scalpel. I was naked. I tried to put on a brave face. But maybe I was going to be raped. Maybe they'd electrocute me. Maybe castrate me. They took the scalpel to my right chest. It was only a small cut. Maybe an inch. At first I just screamed ... I was just shocked, I wasn't expecting ... Then they cut my left chest. This time I didn't want to scream because I knew it was coming. One of them took my penis in his hand and began to make cuts. He did it once, and they stood still for maybe a minute, watching my reaction. I was in agony. They must have done this 20 to 30 times, in maybe two hours. There was blood all over. "I told you I was going to teach you who's the man," [one] eventually said. They cut all over my private parts. One of them said it would be better just to cut it off, as I would only breed terrorists. I asked for a doctor.

What the torturers wanted were confessions to make their other big cases stick, and look legitimate as though there was a reasonable justification for what they were doing. And please note: there were, ultimately, no charges filed against this man, and no trial.

That this manner of sadistic behaviour against any prisoner of war was not only tolerated, but ordered by the highest level of the US government, should have been cause for a trial of that most unholy of trinities Bush, Rumsfeld, and Cheney; however, because it appears that they made a deal Candidate Obama who ultimately became President Obama, that will only happen when pigs fly.

Aug 14 09:23

Let’s Talk About Torture

The CIA’s torture-era leadership won’t repent. Even after the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence released its report saying in no uncertain terms that the CIA had tortured its prisoners, that torture was official U.S. government policy, and that torture never elicited any actionable intelligence that saved American lives, Bush-era CIA Directors George Tenet, Porter Goss, Michael Hayden, and several of their underlings announced plans to release a book justifying torture.

They intend to repeat a lie over and over again in this book: that torture worked. They hope that the American people are either so gullible or so stupid that they’ll believe it. It’s up to the rest of us to ensure that our government swears off committing this crime against humanity.

I know that these former intelligence leaders are lying because I worked with them at the CIA. When I blew the whistle on the CIA’s torture program in 2007, they came down on me like a ton of bricks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

John Kiriakou is one of my heroes, for his willingness to speak out against torture; and for that he was punished with a jail sentence...for telling the truth.

I would love to watch any of the above-named minions in the Bush administration, with cameras rolling, be treated just as those prisoners who were tortured were treated, and then swear they were not tortured.

Torture does not create actionable intelligence. But when the US tortures, or outsources torture, here is what happens:

The world understands that the US government's alleged love of democracy, and human rights is only observed in the breach.

Foreign governments which don't love the US government very much will believe that they have carte blanche to torture American citizens and military personnel.

For those of you serving in our military, or have friends or family in the military, please chew on that last one for awhile.

Chelsea Manning and Hillary Clinton: A Case of Double Standards

The “crimes” of Chelsea Manning weren’t crimes against people but against the US government, i.e. they were acts of conscience that should be rewarded rather than punished. Nothing she did hurt a single person, except those persons in power whose hypocrisy and venality was exposed: not a single US casualty in our interminable “war on terrorism” can be traced back to the leaking of the materials that have been posted on Wikileaks via Manning. Indeed, the material that was released to the world exposed the very real crimes of our rulers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world. This is Chelsea’s real “crime,” one for which she is paying dearly.

On the other hand, let’s take a look at another lady who stands accused of mishandling US secrets, including material classified “Top Secret”: Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I love the smell of irony in the morning!!

Were I a betting person, I might be convinced to bet that this will absolutely crater her Presidential run.

CIA Torture Tactics Reemerge in New York Prison

Over 60 inmates at New York’s Clinton Correctional Facility have complained of abuse by prison guards in the wake of the June escape of convicted killers David Sweat and Richard Matt.

According to a New York Times report, they allege that the prison staff interrogated them by beating them, placing them in solitary confinement, and in at least one inmate’s case, throwing a bag over his head and threatening to waterboard him.

Hearing about the domestic use of tactics so similar to those used by the CIA on suspected terrorists during the Bush administration, the Reverend Ron Stief, executive director of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, made the obvious connection.

“Faith and human rights leaders who worked to stop the CIA’s torture program have long feared its corroding influence on our civilian authorities,” he said in a statement. “These events prove that we must fight the torture of Americans here at home just as we have fought the use of torture abroad.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have 3 words for Rev. Steif: GOD BLESS YOU!!

I am no bleeding heard liberal on crime. But I have to wonder; why is Sweden able to close a number of their prisons because they don't have enough prisoners to fill them?!?

The answer here is a no-brainer; in Sweden, there is a total focus on rehabilitation, which does a magnificent job of preventing recidivism. The American prison system offers almost no rehabilitation whatsoever, and by the time prisoners have done their time, they are generally worse off than they were before they were sentenced.

And the prison/industrial complex, be they private or public prisons, love their budgets, and do not want the status quo changed at all.
