blog: our state is voting for a new governor...

My blog on a local newspaper..ignored, but glad I wrote it anyway. : :
I sometimes wonder, if the idea of choice is just an illusion. Do we really get a choice? It seems, the choices are forced upon us, by both mainstream media, and money. Democrats wont vote for the lesser democrat, because they think if they do, they might lose, and their party will be out of power., same with republicans. Cant you see this picture? It is so clear. I have also noticed, that the differences between republican and democrat politicians is very small compared to the overall picture. It seems like some very powerful, and rich people, are bamboozling us.

Growth of California's pot industry is good news for unions

MARIN COUNTY — In a suburban oasis amid golden hills north of San Francisco, members of the United Food and Commercial Workers union are processing thousands of marijuana cigarettes a day, rolling joints in rice paper cylinders from Amsterdam.

The startup factory for a Bay Area firm called Medi-Cone is part of a commercial industry evolving to serve the hundreds of thousands of medical pot users who can legally use the drug in California, as well as marijuana dispensaries amassing an estimated $1.3 billion in annual transactions.

As Californians prepare to vote on a November ballot initiative that would expand legalization to recreational pot use, labor groups see the potential for perhaps tens of thousands of unionized jobs.

Free Speech Cases at Top of Supreme Court's New Term

Mark Sherman
Associated Press

WASHINGTON — First Amendment cases top the Supreme Court's docket as it begins a new term with a new justice and three women on the bench for the first time.

The court will look at provocative anti-gay protests at military funerals and a California law banning the sale of violent video games to children. These cases worry free speech advocates, who fear the court could limit First Amendment freedoms.

The Europeans, forever cast in American myth as fey, feckless, wine-sipping weaklings, have roused themselves to such an extent that the UN is now warning of years of "social unrest" due to the policies of the austerity zealots -- policies which are greatly exacerbating unemployment (with all the inevitable knock-on effects throughout the economy), while severely corroding the physical and social infrastructure of whole nations. International Center for 9/11 Studies - NIST Cumulus Video Database Released (after FOIA request)

As we announced on August 31, 2010, the International Center for 9/11 Studies has secured the release of tens of thousands of photographs, and hundreds of hours of video footage, from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under the Freedom of Information Act. We are working on ways to get this data in the hands of interested researchers, we need the communities help to examine this material, much of which has not been seen before.

We are pleased to announce that we have made our first release of this material available for download. This first release is the "NIST Cumulus Video" folder which is part of the NIST Cumulus Database we received. It contains over 6500 video clips that NIST used in its investigation. It is important to note that NIST did not voluntarily turn over the entire Cumulus database to us. The alleged copyright holders of a small amount of material in the Cumulus database objected to NIST releasing their materials, and NIST complied with all such requests. We are currently engaged in litigation against NIST, and will continue fighting for complete release of these materials.

A Rand Corp. study found that nearly one in five soldiers will suffer from mental health problems caused by the trauma of war and the stress of multiple deployments.
That's an alarming statistic for anywhere in America. But it could have far-reaching consequences in Cumberland County, where most of the 50,000 soldiers based at Fort Bragg live. This year, almost all of them are home at once for one of the few times since Sept. 11, 2001.

U.S. apologizes for Guatemala STD experiments

U.S. government medical researchers intentionally infected hundreds of people in Guatemala, including institutionalized mental patients, with gonorrhea and syphilis without their knowledge or permission more than 60 years ago.

Many of those infected were encouraged to pass the infection onto others as part of the study.

About one third of those who were infected never got adequate treatment.

On Friday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius offered extensive apologies for actions taken by the U.S. Public Health Service.

"The sexually transmitted disease inoculation study conducted from 1946-1948 in Guatemala was clearly unethical," according to the joint statement from Clinton and Sebelius. "Although these events occurred more than 64 years ago, we are outraged that such reprehensible research could have occurred under the guise of public health. We deeply regret that it happened, and we apologize to all the individuals who were affected by such abhorrent research practices."

"This shows that the USA govt. has a long history of illegal medical experimentation upon the populations of the world. Right now, every American is also partaking in illegal experimentation with modified food (GM), fluoridation of the water, monosodium glutamate, high fructose corn syrup, and aspartame. These substances have extensive evidence that they are unhealthy for human consumption, but industry buries this evidence with private funded counter studies and massive disinformation advertisements. Don't take my word for it, research these substances online and disregard the propaganda there that tells you different. For a healthier you." -- kdtroxel

Schwarzenegger signs bill reducing offense for marijuana possession

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger opposes Proposition 19, which would legalize the recreational use of marijuana, but he offered a consolation Thursday by signing a bill that would downgrade possession of an ounce or less from a misdemeanor to an infraction.

SB 1449 was written by state Sen. Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), who said it will keep marijuana-related cases from going to court-clogging jury trials, although the penalty would remain a fine of up to $100 but no jail time.

"Notwithstanding my opposition to Proposition 19, however, I am signing this measure because possession of less than an ounce of marijuana is an infraction in everything but name," Schwarzenegger wrote in a signing message.

"In this time of drastic budget cuts, prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement, and the courts cannot afford to expend limited resources prosecuting a crime that carries the same punishment as a traffic ticket."

"The people of California will vote in Nov. to end Marijuana/Hemp prohibition. Woe to any court that attempts to overturn the will of the people." - kdtroxel

American foreign policy explained, refuted in “Good Will Hunting” 2-minute video

In the linked two-minute clip on the left, Damon’s character in Good Will Hunting nails and then buries the oligarch’s argument (adult language).

The only addition I have to Matt’s character’s argument: the increase in domestic oil prices (and others) is also a function of Wall Street “trades” designed to benefit traders and parasitize consumers.

Taxpayers are being left with the bill and deeper austerity measures, but the government says the banks are too big to fail.

Federal Reserve to Become Largest Holder of U.S. Debt in Just Over a Month?

Probably the most interesting thing in this week's Fed balance sheet update is that Treasurys held by the Fed are now $812 billion, an increase of $7 billion from the week before, which those who follow the FRBNY's almost daily POMO liquidity explosion know all too well.

Indicatively, Japan owns $821 billion and China, $847 billion.

We believe that within one week the Fed will surpass Japan as the second largest holder of Treasurys, and China, the current top holder, in just over a month.

Another notable item: Fed excess reserves were at $981 billion, a decline from $1.01 trillion at the beginning of the month, but most notably, in the past month this number hit a year low of $932 billion on September 15. One wonders just what securities the banks were buying up with these reserves? Keep in mind the stock market closed essentially at the level it hit on September 20, making one wonder just how much of a factor the nearly $80 billion decline in bank excess reserves in the first two weeks of the month may have been.

Palestinians victims of ethnic cleansing MIDEAST TALKS FAIL 2010

Israelis "have invented the fiction that the Palestinian people are not historically entitled to this land," Schoenman said.
"This is a fiction designed to provide the basis for eradicating the presence of the Palestinian people and the existence of the Zionist state that is dependent upon the racist premise that the land is exclusively for Jews," he added.

"Every single adventure is designed to provide a cover for the expulsion, the direct removal, by massacre or by ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population," Schoenman went on to say.

"That is ethnic cleansing. It cannot be done except by coercion and requires the cover of war. The Zionist state is in a permanent war against the people of the region," Schoenman pointed out.

The settlement construction on the occupied Palestinian lands is in violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 446, 452 and 465.

Lori Garver, NASA's deputy administrator, said Thursday she didn't believe the bill would affect planned layoffs, "certainly not for tomorrow."

Thursday was the last day for laid-off employees to report to their workstations. Shuttle workers on their last day were to receive their final paperwork.

Many of the departing workers have worked on the shuttle program since its beginning in the early 1980s.

Pakistanis have Great Deal of Emotional Attachment with the Iranian People: Shahid R. Siddiqi

The Western threat of military strike against Iran has been a matter of great concern for an average Pakistani. He believes that not only would this cause death and destruction in a neighboring Islamic country, but it would engulf the whole region in a cycle of violence. There is also a likelihood of serious environmental disaster due to release of radioactive materials over the skies of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Turkey and Russia Defy America's Imperial Design in the Middle East and Central Asia

Russia is fence-sitting on this tricky dilemma. It is also siding, so far, with the US and the EU in refusing to include Turkey and Brazil in the negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme. “The Non-Aligned countries in general, and Iran in particular, have interpreted the Russian vote as the will on the part of a great power to prevent emerging powers from attaining the energy independence they need for their economic development. And it will be difficult to make them forget this Russian faux pas,” argues Thierry Meyssan at

Whatever the truth is there, the cooperation with Iran and now Turkey, Syria and Egypt on developing peaceful nuclear power, and the recent agreement to sell Syria advanced P-800 cruise missiles show Russia is hardly the plaything of the US and Israel in Middle East issues. Israel is furious over the missile sale to Syria, and last week threatened to sell “strategic, tie-breaking weapons” to “areas of strategic importance” to Russia in revenge. On both Iran and Syria, Russia's moves suggest it is trying to calm volatile situations that could explode.

S. 510: 12 Reasons Why The Food Safety Bill From Hell Could Be Very Dangerous For The U.S. Economy

The following are 12 reasons why S. 510 could be absolutely disastrous for small food producers and for the U.S. economy....

#1 All food production facilities in the United States will be required to register with the U.S. government. No food will be allowed to be grown, distributed or sold outside this bureaucratic framework unless the FDA allows it.

#2 Any food that is distributed or sold outside of U.S. government control will be considered illegal smuggling.

#3 The FDA will hire an army of new inspectors to enforce all of the new provisions in the bill.

#4 The FDA will be mandated to conduct much more frequent inspections of food processing facilities.

#5 The fees and paperwork requirements will be ruinously expensive for small food producers and organic farms.

#6 S. 510 would place all U.S. food and all U.S. farms under the Department of Homeland Security in the event of a major "contamination" or an "emergency". What exactly would constitute a "contamination" or an "emergency" is anyone's guess.

#7 S. 510 mandates that the FDA facilitate harmonization of American food laws with Codex Alimentarius.

#8 S. 510 imposes an annual registration fee on any facility that holds, processes, or manufactures food. It also includes draconian fines for paperwork infractions of up to $500,000 for a single offense. Just one penalty like that would drive a small food producer out of business.

#9 S. 510 would give the FDA tremendous discretion to regulate how crops are grown and how food is produced in the United States. Basically, small farmers and organic farmers will now be forced to farm exactly how the federal government tells them to. It is feared that the U.S. government would soon declare that many organic farming methods are "unsafe" and would outlaw them. In addition, there is the very real possibility that at some point the U.S. government could decide that the only "safe" seed for a particular crop is genetically modified seed and would require all farmers to use it.

#10 S. 510 will give the FDA the power to impose a quarantine on a specific geographic area. Basically the FDA would have the power to stop the movement of all food in an area where a "contamination" has been identified. This would be very close to being able to declare martial law.

#11 S. 510 will give the FDA the power to conduct warrantless searches of the business records of small food producers and organic farmers, even if there has been no evidence at all that a law has been broken.

#12 Opponents of S. 510 believe that it would eliminate the right to clean and store seed. Therefore, control of the U.S. seed supply would be further centralized in the hands of Monsanto and other multinational corporations.

Falluja Worse Than Hiroshima

What exactly happened in Falluja ? What were the kinds of bombs used ? Was it just DU or more ?

1) One thing that is very peculiar to Falluja is that the rates of cancer have risen dramatically in a very short space of time i.e since 2004. Examples given by Dr.Busby :

- rate of Child Leukemia is 40 X (times) higher since 2004 than during previous years. And compared to Jordan for instance it is 38 X times higher.
- rate of breast cancer is 10 X higher since 2004
- rate of lymphatic cancer is also 10 x higher since 2004.

2) Another peculiarity to Falluja is the dramatic rise in infant mortality rates. Compared to 2 other Arab countries like Kuwait and Egypt who are not contaminated by radiation these are the figures :

- infant mortality rates for Falluja is 80 infants out of 1'000 births in comparison to Kuwait with 9 infants out of 1'000, and to Egypt with 19 infants out of 1'000. (so Iraqi infant mortality rate is 4 times higher than Egypt and 9 times higher than Kuwait)

3) the third peculiarity to Falluja is the number of genetic deformities that has suddenly exploded since 2004. This is a subject I've already covered in the past. But this is not the whole story, today I learned something else. The radiation of whatever agent that was used by the "liberating forces", not only causes massive genetic deformities but also and this is very important :

Obama Working on Plan to Wiretap Skype, Facebook, BlackBerrys

The Obama administration wants to force all communications companies to make their networks compliable with wiretapping orders from law enforcement, a change that would primarily affect the likes of Facebook, Skype, BlackBerrys and similar encrypted systems.

Phone and broadband companies already are required under the 1994 Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act to ensure their operations can allow for eavesdropping by police and federal agents. But more recent communications like BlackBerrys, which encrypt emails, make it difficult for the government to intercept messages that may involve terrorist plots.

The White House has been working with the FBI, the Department of Justice and the National Security Agency to develop a plan that would be submitted to Congress sometime next year.

House passes bill aimed at Chinese currency

The House of Representatives approved legislation Wednesday designed to combat the manipulation of currency by China that results in unfavorable trade conditions for the United States.

The legislation, which authorizes the Commerce Department to impose duties on imports from countries with undervalued currencies, passed by a vote of 348 to 79. (Wallmart will be pissed, shrug)

The bill got support from both sides of the aisle, a rarity in recent sessions, with Democrats framing the legislation as a jobs issue. (too little, too late)

"We can talk, or we can act. International trade is a high stakes, cut-throat business, and every time we simply talk, the other side acts, and every time they act, an American loses a job," said Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-California. (Blame the Trilateral Commission drafting of NAFTA and GATT for your loss of jobs to free trade agreements, along with the congress that enacted them)

China said this year it would allow its currency, the renminbi, to trade in a wider range against the dollar. But the currency, also known as the yuan, has scarcely appreciated since then, inflaming critics who charge the undervalued renminbi helps steal U.S. manufacturing jobs.

Estimations on the undervaluation of the renminbi vary depending on the economic model used, but one estimate by the Peterson Institute of International Economics puts the number at about 24% against the dollar.

An anonymous cadet at the US Air Force Academy (USAFA ) spoke out against alleged religious discrimination at the school last week, saying that some cadets must pretend to be evangelical Christians in order to maintain standing among their peers and superiors. In an email to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), the whistleblower stated that he is part of an "underground group" of about 100 cadets who cannot rely on proper channels to confront evangelical pressure.

The email, published by Veterans Today, applauds the MRFF from the "underground" and indicates that the academy is "literally overrun with Christian conservative fanatics."

Israeli scientists discover way to counterfeit DNA

New York Times reports Israeli firm created blood and saliva samples containing DNA from a third party.

Israeli scientists have shown it is possible to fabricate DNA evidence, according to an article published in the New York Times on Tuesday. The findings could possibly call into question the credibility of DNA as evidence in criminal cases.

In their tests, the scientists fabricated blood and saliva samples that contained DNA taking from a different person, the New York Times reported. The article states that the scientists also could take a DNA profile in a database and use it to make a DNA sample to match the profile without needing any tissue from the person.

As Western Civilization Lies Dying

The Western commercial system is extractive. It exists to extract more from consumers than it supplies in products and services. Its goal is profit, and profit literally means to make more (pro-ficere). Its goal has never been to improve the human condition but to exploit it. It works like this:

Consider two water tanks, initially each partially full, one above the other. One gallon of water is dumped from the upper tank into the lower one for each two gallons extracted from the lower tank and pumped into the upper tank. Over time, the lower tank ends up empty and the upper tank ends up full. The circulation of water between the tanks ends.

BBC and Murdoch, on the Same Side

Blair was embraced by the new BBC corporate class, which regards itself as meretorious and non-ideological: the natural leaders in a managerial Britain in which class is unspoken. Few did more to enunciate Blair’s "vision" than Andrew Marr, then a leading newspaper journalist and today the BBC’s ubiquitous voice of middle-class Britain. Just as Murdoch’s Sun declared in 1995 it shared the rising Blair’s "high moral values" so Marr, writing the Observer in 1999, lauded the new prime minister’s "substantial moral courage" and the "clear distinction in his mind between prudently protecting his power base and rashly using his power for high moral purpose." What impressed Marr was Blair’s "utter lack of cynicism" along with his bombing of Yugoslavia which would "save lives."

Orwellian DoubleThink: Tyranny is Safety

Orwellian DoubleThink Series, Part 6
Activist Post

One is never safe living under a tyrannical form of government. If we have learned anything from George Orwell's work, it is to recognize the DoubleThink that tyrannical minds employ in order to make us believe that we would somehow be safer living in a world of total control, as opposed to complete freedom. The Orwellian world is one where a government bureaucracy legislates more and more centralized power, as their agents descend on every facet of our lives to enforce constant penalties meted out at their discretion. The main strategy is to be sure citizens are always in violation of something.
