Paranoid defence controls could criminalise teaching encryption

You might not think that an academic computer science course could be classified as an export of military technology. But under the Defence Trade Controls Act – which passed into law in April, and will come into force next year – there is a real possibility that even seemingly innocuous educational and research activities could fall foul of Australian defence export control laws.

Under these laws, such “supplies of technology” come under a censorship regime involving criminal penalties of up to ten years imprisonment. How could this be?

Maybe It's Time To Just Cuss Them Out (Really Fed-Up Driver unleases tirade at Rogue DHS agemt)

What do you do with a lawless, criminal rogue government with no chance of reform? Maybe it boils down to just cussing them out.
U.S. v Martinez-Fuerte states: "We have held that checkpoint searches are constitutional only if justified by consent or probable cause to search... And our holding today is limited to the type of stops described in this opinion. Any further detention... must be based on consent or probable cause."
Despite this, rogue Department of Homeland Security agents continue to ignore the law, the Constitution, and U.S. Supreme Court rulings. In a recorded exchange at the notorious Laredo, TX warrantless checkpoint yesterday, this prompted a fed-up driver to unleash a profanity-laced tirade against the obnoxious agent, demanding the officer's supervisor. Two supervisors came rushing up, one recording the scene with a video camera attached to an extension pole.

WHY ELITES LOVE DRONE

I sometimes read that drone strikes are counterproductive to western security interests because each person killed by a drone results in more new 'terrorists'. See, for example, 'The more civilians US drones kill in the Mideast, the more radicals they create'. http://rt.com/op-edge/252705-drone-operation-us-strategy-military/

However, this analysis completely fails to understand what is driving elite military policy, carried out by the United States elite and key elite allies within NATO and elsewhere. In brief: drone strikes work precisely because they provoke violent responses which help elites to 'justify' their perpetual war to secure control of the world's diminishing supplies of fossil fuels, water and strategic minerals while tightening control of domestic populations through expansion of the security and surveillance state.

Abracadabra! Britain’s political elite has fooled us all again

Since the crash, British politics has been one epic act of misdirection. Lay off those bankers who shoved the country into penury! Just focus on stripping disabled people of their benefits. Never mind the millionaire bosses squeezing your pay! Spit instead at the minimum-wage migrant cleaners apparently making us poorer. So ingrained is the ritual that when a minister strides into view urging the need for “a grown-up debate”, we brace ourselves for another round of Blame the Victim. The only question is who gets sacrificed next: some ethnic minority, this family on low pay, that middle-aged dad who can’t get a job.

Here is how political misdirection works in real time.’

False claims of anti-Semitism climb on US campuses: New report

Sixty false allegations of anti-Semitism have been recorded against students or faculty in the US since January “based solely on speech critical of Israeli policy,” according to a study by lawyers.

Attorneys with Palestine Solidarity Legal Support (PSLS) published a report on Monday documenting 84 incidents of repression on college campuses across the US from 1 January to 30 April in which Palestine solidarity activists and professors were targeted or smeared because of their criticism of Israel.

Many of the NSA’s Loudest Defenders Have Financial Ties to NSA Contractors

As one example of the opaque link between NSA money and punditry, take the words of Stewart Baker, who was general counsel to the NSA from 1992 through 1994. During a Senate committee hearing last summer on one of the reform bills now before Congress, the USA FREEDOM Act, which would partially limit mass surveillance of telephone metadata, Baker essentially said the bill would aid terrorists.

“First, I do not believe we should end the bulk collection program,” he told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. “It will put us at risk. It will, as Senator King strongly suggested, slow our responses to serious terrorist incidents. And it is a leap into the dark with respect to this data.”

How can a Canadian Mining company sue El Salvador for $301 million dollars?

Whereas Guatemala has 40 per cent forest cover, El Salvador has only 13 per cent, two per cent of which is indigenous forest growth. According to Cortez, the country is entering into a period of severe water stress, with more than 90 per cent of surface waters contaminated.

With this crisis on the horizon, Salvadorans have been demanding a halt to all mining in the country. Over seven years, three successive Salvadoran governments have responded to these broad-based anti-mining movements by upholding a defacto moratorium on new metal mining projects.

When in 2008, then-president Saca denied permits to Canadian mining company Pacific Rim, the country found itself caught in a web of international corporate law and free trade agreements. OceanaGold bought Pacific Rim in 2013 and has taken up the former company’s mantle, continuing to pursue the $301 million lawsuit against El Salvador.

Texas Delivers Some MAJOR Bad News to the UN

The state of Texas used to be its own country and is both bigger and more populous than many of the nations in the rest of the world.

So if any state is going to fight the power-grabbing agenda of the United Nations, it’s likely to be the Lone Star State.

Texas is doing just that by introducing Senate Bill 445, legislation that would ban implementation of the controversial United Nations “Agenda 21? program within the state’s boundaries.

The file was undated, but it is alleged to have originated around 1998 or 1999. The document also listed concern about other popular shows at the time such as X-Files.

Canada Seen As Dictatorship By American Students

It is said that the correct answer for the test was “they have constitutions that limit their power,” however the very first thing mentioned within the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, is the ability of the state to violate those “protected rights” which are supposed to be “guaranteed,” whenever the violation is done so within “reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.” They can violate your rights when they see the action to be fitting to their cause.

The Waco Police Massacre

"The shove in the bathroom became a scuffle in the restaurant. When about 30 Bandidos, Cossacks, Scimitars and other bikers spilled into the parking between the Twin peaks and the Don Carlos Mexican restaurant next door, the police were waiting for them. The scuffle became a knife fight and several men were stabbed. When one of the combatants produced a gun the Swat team opened fire with automatic weapons. Multiple sources have told The Aging Rebel that all of the dead were killed by police."

A shoving match in a bathroom at a Confederation of Clubs meeting in Waco, Texas exploded into a war yesterday. Nine people were killed, 27 people were injured, 17 were hospitalized, two are listed in critical condition, and 160 men were arrested following a brawl at a chain restaurant in a shopping center on the South Jack Kultgen Espressway.

Obama’s DEA Appointment Looks To Confront Drug War With Anti-Terror Tactics

This week, President Obama appointed a replacement for disgraced former DEA Administrator Michelle Leonhart. Chuck Rosenberg is a former U.S. District Attorney and former general counsel for two FBI directors, as well as a former attorney general. He is highly regarded among his government colleagues, but a deeper examination of his record reveals troubling implications for the DEA’s future.

Before delving into Rosenberg’s personal positions, it is worth noting the figures he has worked under. Rosenberg served as general and/or senior counsel to former FBI Director, Robert Mueller, former Attorney General, John Ashcroft, and current FBI Director, James Comey. He also worked for Comey when they were district attorneys for the federal government. All three of these men have employed policies and surveillance that grossly violate civil liberties and the privacy of citizens.

Death Penalty for Boston Marathon Suspect Drives Nail in the Coffin of US Justice System

With the jury’s verdict now in sentencing an innocent man to death, the US justice system is sinking ever lower in its moral decay. So many giant holes in the prosecution’s case were simply ignored. Photos of the shredded backpacks allegedly containing the bombs never matched the backpacks of the Tsarnaev brothers. But the fact that they did match a number of Kraft International private security contractors photographed at the scene meant nothing. When evidence of a staged “realistic” enacted event complete with role actors and stagehand direction, fake bombs and fake blood, pre-marathon announcements of a “bomb drill” confirmed by a public notice in the Boston Globe, and no real evidence that either Tsarnaev brother committed a crime as much as admitted by the feds, there is absolutely no justice left in America today!

FLASHBACK - THE LIE OF THE (LAST) CENTURY

It is inescapable historical reality that leaders of nations will lie to their people to trick them into wars they otherwise would have refused. It is not "conspiracy theory" to suggest that leaders of nations lie to trick their people into wars. It is undeniable fact.

This brings us to the present case.

Did the government of the United States lie to the American people, more to the point, did President Bush and his Neocon associates lie to Congress, to initiate a war of conquest in Iraq?

This question has been given currency by a memo leaked from inside the British Government which clearly indicates a decision to go to war followed by the "fixing" of information around that policy. This is, as they say, a smoking gun.

But the fact is that long before this memo surfaced, it had become obvious that the US Government, aided by that of Great Britain, was lying to create the public support for a war in Iraq.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The corporate media is parroting the "bad intelligence" excuse for what is now acknowledged to have been a disastrous decision to go into Iraq. But there was no bad intelligence. The real goal of the war was to end Iraq's selling of their oil for the Euro and the claims about nuclear weapons was the lie told to you to trick you into sending your children to be killed and crippled for the US dollar's continuing hegemony!

Shoppers could soon have difficulty finding meat's origin

Shoppers could soon have a harder time finding out where their red meat comes from.

The World Trade Organization ruled Monday that the U.S. "country of origin" labels put Canadian and Mexican livestock at a disadvantage. The current labels say where the animals were born, raised and slaughtered.

The Obama administration has already revised the labels once to try to comply with previous WTO rulings in favor of Canada and Mexico. Since those efforts didn't work, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says Congress will have to weigh in to avoid retaliation — such as extra tariffs — from the two neighbor countries.

Proposed surveillance limits could force US to 'go dark', says Mitch McConnell

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell said on Sunday that legislation concerning the federal government’s powers of surveillance that was passed by the House of Representatives this week could cause the country to “go dark” when it comes to collecting Americans’ phone records.

McConnell said that if such a state of affairs came about, “we’ll not be able to have yet another tool that we need to combat this terrorist threat from overseas”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mitch, you are a tyrant's wet-dream!

First, under the Fourth Amendment, the government is not allowed at will to peek into our private lives, drool over naked pictures of our lovers, steal our business secrets, (all of which they have been caught doing) etc.

Second, in 12 years of living under tyranny, the NSA, TSA, DHS, FBI, CIA have not actually prevented any terror attacks. Yes, they have set up a bunch of innocent patsies to be arrested for propaganda purposes, but no real terrorists, and the reason is simple. As we demonstrated 6 times over at my website, anyone with modest programming skills can write systems of encryption the NSA simply cannot break. Which means the entire surveillance system you are so in love with is only able to spy on law abiding citizens. That means it is a hideous waste of time, money, manpower, and other resources.

But Mitch, I will make you a deal. We The People will allow total surveillance over our phone calls and emails and texts ... as soon as all members of Congress allow We The People the same access to your emails, phone calls, and texts. Fair enough?

How obeying the law will no longer be enough to protect you from the police

Even if you are not suspected of committing any crime, you could be hit by orders preventing you from speaking in public or associating with specific people.

"Failure to Obey" Documentary on Checkpoint Refusal (full movie)

One hundred twenty kilometers from the US-Mexico border, Steven Anderson thought his constitutional right to be free of unlawful search and seizure was intact. That was where, in 2009, Customs and Border Patrol stopped Anderson, a pastor, and indicated that a canine had alerted them to the presence of hidden drugs or humans in the back
of his car. When Anderson refused to consent to a search, the Texas
Department of Public Safety smashed his windows and tased the leader of
Faithful Word Baptist Church. His new documentary examines what life is like for the 197 million Americans who live within 100 miles of the US border, and under the scrutiny of checkpoint searches.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Of course, here in Hawaii, there is no place more than 100 miles from the national border! I would also point out that this "Constitution free" law is unconstitutional, and under the US Supreme Court ruling Marbury vs Madison is automatically null and void.

Oil Billionaire Attempts to Silence University Quake Researchers

Fossil fuel partisans in the Sooner State were rattled late last month when the Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGS) released a statement that the rapid increase in the state’s seismic activity was very likely caused by humans—specifically the “injection/disposal of water associated with oil and gas production.”

One billionaire oilman decided to take action—not about the message but about the messengers. Emails exposed by Bloomberg News reveal that Harold Hamm, the founder and CEO of Continental Resources, one of America’s ten biggest energy independents, asked the dean of the University of Oklahoma’s College of Earth and Energy to fire scientists involved with the OGS report, an official publication of the university.

“Mr. Hamm is very upset at some of the earthquake reporting to the point that he would like to see select OGS staff dismissed,” Dean Larry Grillot wrote to a couple of colleagues.

America Refuses to Face up to Its «Death Squads» in Blue

Media pundits and politicians are calling the violence that broke out in Baltimore after the spinal cord severance death, while in police custody, of African-American Freddie Gray a «wake up call». However, these self-appointed «experts» on the social collapse of poor, mostly African-American working class neighborhoods across the United States, are avoiding talking about the real reason cities and towns across America are erupting in protest and resorting to rioting every time a young African-American is murdered by the police. America, like the fascist dictatorships in Latin America during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, is now rife with police «death squads». Uniformed law enforcement officers now act as judges, juries, and executioners in meting out death sentences on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, a St. Louis suburb; New York City; North Charleston, South Carolina; Baltimore; and other cities and towns across the dis-United States.

The War On Cash Destroys A Small Entrepreneur

Banks are legally obligated to report any deposit of more than $10,000 to the U.S. Treasury Department. But if an individual makes several cash deposits of less than $10,000 over an unspecified period of time that total more than $10,000, then he is presumed to be a money launderer or drug trafficker who is committing the dastardly crime of structuring, that is, seeking to circumvent the bank’s reporting requirement and maintaining the privacy of his financial affairs Thus banks are also required to file “suspicious activity reports” on cash deposits of less than $10,000. Based on these reports, if one is merely suspected–not convicted–of structuring, his bank account is seized by the IRS under “civil asset forfeiture” laws, which permits seizures of money or other property suspected of being related to a crime.

Leading German Keynesian Economist Calls For Cash Ban

At this stage, a sane person might be tempted to call it a day on the monetary experiments, especially considering that at this point, the limits have been reached. That is, there are literally no more assets to buy and rates have hit the effective lower bound where rational actors will eschew bank deposits in favor of the mattress. But not so fast, say folks like Citi’s Willem Buiter and economist Ken Rogoff: the world could always ban cash because if you eliminate physical currency and force people to use a debit card linked to a government controlled bank account for all transactions, you can effectively centrally plan everything.

Central plan = total dictatorship. And central planning has never worked. Just look at the old USSR!

Court keeps cellphone network ‘kill switch’ a secret

The fuss revolves around a policy called Standard Operating Procedure 303, which is “a shutdown and restoration process for use by commercial and private wireless networks in the event of a national crisis,” according to the IT Law Wiki. The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) brought the suit after San Francisco officials blocked cellphone service to prevent a protest in 2011.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a violation of the First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech and Freedom to Assemble. There is no law that overrides those rights. There cannot be, because under the Supreme Court Decision Marbury vs Madison, laws repugnant to the Constitution are automatically null and void. Thus, some official in San Francisco pulled the plug on the cell phone system just because they wanted to. By doing so, along with violation of one of the most basic rights Americans possess, they placed those Americans in emergency situations at risk from the loss of needed communications, plus caused untold economic harm to those Americans using their cell phones for business purposes during the outage. The responsible party needs to be removed from office and made PERSONALLY financially liable for the harm caused to life and property!

Larry Hanley, International President of the Amalgamated Transit Union, says there has been a military junta in the United States since September 11th of 2001, and our national priorities have shifted primarily out of fear.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US has been under an unannounced wartime economy for the last 13 years, and the nation's infrastructure is starting to show it!

Death Sentence Unsettles City

Death Sentence for Boston Bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Unsettles City He Tore Apart

To many, the death sentence almost feels like a blot on the city’s collective consciousness.

To the amazement of people elsewhere, Bostonians overwhelmingly opposed condemning the bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, to death. The most recent poll, conducted last month for The Boston Globe, found that just 15 percent of city residents wanted him executed. Statewide, 19 percent did. By contrast, 60 percent of Americans wanted Mr. Tsarnaev to get the death penalty, according to a CBS News poll last month.

No one here felt sympathy for him.

Woman Told by Airline She Couldn't Return Text From Her Suicidal Husband, Comes Home to Find Him Dead

Karen Momsen-Evers's plane home to Milwaukee from a girls' weekend in New Orleans was about to take off when she received a text from her husband, Andy: "Karen, please forgive me for what I am about to do, I am going to kill myself." Though she desperately tried to respond, Momsen-Evers was told by flight attendants that she needed to put her phone on airplane mode immediately, TMJ 4 reports.

"I begged her, I said I'm sure somebody can make an emergency phone call, I just wanted somebody to go and try to save him," Momsen-Evers said. "Nobody helped." She spent the next two hours crying in her seat. Even when the plane reached cruising altitude and Momsen-Evers explained the situation to another flight attendant, they would not make an exception for her to make an emergency phone call. When the plane landed in Milwaukee, she was finally able to call the police. By the time she got home, she was met by officers who told her Andy was dead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mythbusters did a show in which they showed that cell phones in fact do not interfere with the aircraft navigation systems.

Reply to a Reader’s Complaint about Anti-American Pro-Russian Bias

I recently received a sharp complaint from a reader about an assumed anti-American pro-Russian bias in my writings. The complaint gives a very good opportunity to address questions on the minds of many in the West confused by an extremely biased pro-Washington, anti-Russian bias in mainstream media coverage of Ukraine and Russia as the new demon to be fought.

First, Mr. Schneider, let me say I am an American and I am definitely not anti-American. I love my country and my fellow Americans.

What I do not love is the clique of very rich who—especially over the past three decades since the time of Reagan and Bush Senior—have step-by-step subverted the American Constitution and its guarantees of citizen rights, have destroyed prudent regulation of the health and safety of American citizens by easing safety rules of the Environmental Protection Agency to benefit companies like DuPont or Monsanto at the expense of the public.
