UNDUE FORCE

The city has paid about $5.7 million since 2011 over lawsuits claiming that police officers brazenly beat up alleged suspects. One hidden cost: The perception that officers are violent can poison the relationship between residents and police.

Mississippi Sued Over 'Hellish' Conditions in For-Profit Prison

At the East Mississippi Correctional Facility, sometimes incarcerated people are forced to resort to starting fires to get attention from negligent staff. (Photo: ACLU)

Denial of food and medical care. Cells and floors soiled with blood, urine, and feces. Excessive force by prison guards. Weeks, months, and years in solitary confinement.

These are the conditions found at a "special needs" for-profit prison, the East Mississippi Correctional Facility, which is tasked by the state's department of corrections with incarcerating 1,200 people, approximately 1,000 of whom have severe psychiatric disorders, according to a legal motion filed Friday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

THIS is what happens when you allow criminals to be incarcerated in for-profit prisons.

Of course, these contracts were well and truly purchased by these corporations, most probably in the form of bribes to the officials of the Mississippi Department of corrections.

This country has not been able, collectively, to make up its mind as to whether to punish or rehabilitate, so it winds up punishing, which nearly guarantees higher rates of recidivism.

Sweden is emptying its prisons, because of its commitment to rehabilitation; the US's prison population keeps growing. What is wrong with this picture?!? BLOODY EVERYTHING!!

Charges Dropped Against Philadelphia Cop Once Acclaimed, Later Vilified

A former-hero Philadelphia police officer who faced several criminal charges has now seen most of them dropped.

It’s a strange twist in a strange odyssey for former officer Richard DeCoatsworth, who had been charged with a long list of crimes including prostitution and human trafficking.

It was alleged that he had raped two women after forcing them at gunpoint to take drugs.

At one point he had pleaded guilty to some of the charges but then withdrew his guilty plea and was awaiting trial.

Bank CEOs are the New Drug Lords

Bank CEOs are the New Drug Lords. Here is a list of some of the banks managed by Bank CEOs, aka the new Drug Lords, that were fined billions of dollars for fixing LIBOR rates and stealing money from clients: Lloyds Bank, RP Martin, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland, Société Générale, JP Morgan, Citigroup, Barclays, United Bank of Switzerland and Rabobank. Here is a list of some of the banks in which the Bank Lords fixed FX rates and are currently negotiating fine amounts with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA): Citigroup, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland, Barclays, JP Morgan and United Bank of Switzerland. HSBC had to pay nearly $2B in fines after its Bank CEO was allegedly caught overseeing the laundering of $7B in drug money for the notoriously violent and ruthless Sinaloa drug cartel and committing a wide array of other crimes like laundering $290MM from Russian mobsters that told HSBC bankers that their vast profits came from a “used car business”.

The US Has No Banking Regulation, And It Doesn’t Want Any

It is, let’s say, exceedingly peculiar to begin with that a government – in this case the American one, but that’s just one example -, in name of its people tasks a private institution with regulating not just any sector of its economy, but the richest and most politically powerful sector in the nation. Which also happens to be at least one of the major forces behind its latest, and ongoing, economical crisis.

That there is a very transparent, plain for everyone to see, over-sized revolving door between the regulator and the corporations in the sector only makes the government’s choice for the Fed as regulator even more peculiar. Or, as it turns out, more logical. But it is still preposterous: regulating the financial sector is a mere illusion kept alive through lip service. Put differently: the American government doesn’t regulate the banks. They effectively regulate themselves. Which inevitably means there is no regulation.

APD Officer makes remark about shooting James Boyd 2 hours before shooting

Two hours before Albuquerque Police Officer Keith Sandy shot and killed homeless camper James Boyd, he was recorded telling another officer that he would shoot Boyd in the penis with a shotgun.

Sandy responded to the scene on March 16th where Boyd refused to come down from a makeshift campsite in the foothills near Tramway and Copper. At the scene, Sandy saw former colleague State Police Officer Chris Ware. Sandy didn’t realize it, but Ware’s dash cam was rolling and picked up their conversation.

Media censor Argentine president’s remarks at UN

The Argentine president questioned countries such as the United States for attacking groups, including the ISIL Takfiri terrorists which Washington previously backed against the Syrian government.

“Where do ISIS (ISIL) and Al-Qaeda take their guns from? Yesterday’s freedom fighters are today’s terrorists,” Cristina Fernandez said, blasting US policies vis-a-vis terrorism.

The ISIL terrorists, who were initially trained by the CIA in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize the Syrian government, control large parts of Syria’s northern territory. The group sent its members into neighboring Iraq in June and seized large parts of land there.

Penalty for Opting Out of the Affordable Care Act Is Large ($12,240) and Growing

If you're opting out of the health-care coverage required by the Affordable Care Act, make sure you understand how much you'll owe Uncle Sam as a result.

But the injuries suffered in Tel Aviv that night stemmed not from rocket fire but from a premeditated assault by a group of extremist Israeli Jews. Woman Busted for Possession of SpaghettiO’s Sauce May Sue

A Florida woman may pursue legal action against police and prosecutors after she spent more than a month in jail for possession of SpaghettiOs.

Police say they arrested 23-year old Ashley Gabrielle Huff after they found a spoon covered with a suspicious residue inside the car she was riding in.

From the beginning Huff insisted that she wasn’t using, selling, or making methamphetamines.

The woman spent more than a month in jail while her attorney tried to arrange a plea bargain. That’s when the crime lab report came back confirming the spoon was encrusted with spaghetti sauce.

She was then released from custody.

Israeli Reservists “Operate” In US Colleges

South Australian Judge Wants Total Gun Ban

SOUTH Australia needs a blanket ban on gun ownership in metropolitan areas to save lives and improve public safety, a respected senior SA judge has declared.

In a move that will ignite debate on gun laws, Supreme Court Justice Michael David said the issue of “gun availability’’ had been a recurring theme in a significant number of cases he had presided over during his 18 years on the District and Supreme Court benches.

He believes removing them from the community would prevent a significant number of domestic shootings.

“My view is I think our guns laws are pretty tight, they are not too bad. But my view on guns is not confined to that,’’ he said.

“In my view, and it is a fairly utopian view, I can’t see why anyone in this city should own a gun. I think a gun with a licence is just as dangerous as a gun without a licence.

Ciaran McCleave: CCTV operator jailed for voyeurism

Ciaran McCleave, 51, of Collinward Gardens, Newtownabbey, was convicted of voyeurism and misconduct in a public office at Antrim Road police station.

The court heard, he had directed a camera at a woman's apartment for 79 minutes over a 26-day period.

A judge said he had spied on the woman for his own "sexual gratification".

On one occasion, the woman was viewed in her underwear after coming out of the shower. The camera he used was supposed to monitor a north Belfast interface.

“Cause a ripple among the sleeping populace and you’re out.”

Well, I’ll tell you what could be next, based on the fact that the Internet runs via an interlocking system of commercial companies.

Standard & Poor’s Warns on Germany as Anti-Euro Political Party Soars in Popularity

German parliamentary elections are coming up on Sept. 22, and Chancellor Angela Merkel has a problem on her hands. A euro-skeptical political party known as AfD is rising in the polls and could deny her Christian Democratic Union and its coalition partners the majority they need to continue governing.

AfD, or Alternative for Germany, currently holds no seats in the Bundestag, and until recently it barely registered in public-opinion polls. But a survey released on Sept. 4 by the Forsa polling group showed it with 4 per cent support—just shy of the 5 per cent needed to win Bundestag representation.Peter Matuschek, Forsa’s chief political analyst, says the poll may have underestimated the party’s strength. Many supporters, he told Spiegel, “are too embarrassed to admit that they are planning to vote for the AfD,” which wants Greece, Spain, and other crisis-hit countries to leave the euro zone, and possibly break up the existing monetary union itself.

Retired Cop and Educator Threatened for Questioning Sandy Hook Investigation

The correspondence below was sent by Wolfgang Halbig to Connecticut State Police Lieutenant J. Paul Vance and Newtown Police Chief Michael Kehoe on January 22, 2014. A retired Florida State Trooper, US Customs Inspector, school administrator, security consultant and entrepreneur, Mr. Halbig has independently researched the Sandy Hook Massacre for over one year.

Understanding what procedures are common during such an event, he attempted with to consult state and federal law enforcement authorities in charge of the investigation only to be rebuffed. His numerous public records requests with Connecticut officials to obtain materials related to the inquiry have similarly been met with silence. Just prior to the Christmas 2013 holiday Halbig explains how he was threatened by Connecticut State Police via the Lake County Florida Sheriff’s Deputies with arrest on felony charges of harassment if he continued to investigate the event.

PR Firm Pulls ‘Emma Watson Naked Pics’ False Flag to Push For Internet Censorship

A PR firm has admitted to carrying out an online false flag against the 4chan forum in which it blamed the website for a threat to release naked pictures of actress Emma Watson as part of an appeal to President Barack Obama to censor the Internet.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Anyone foolish enough to take nude pictures and put them on the web is just asking for trouble, and the reality is that more than a few stars intentionally plant nude pictures of themselves where they will be "discovered" as part of the campaign to increase their fame and "bankability." Setting that aside, this whole episode reminds us that the government and corporate media persist in trying to find ways to shut down the open and free internet and turn it into just another government and corporate controlled content and propaganda delivery system. Public Relations firms are paid vast amounts of money to engage in activities which for normal civilians would be punishable as crimes.

Where Is Venezuela’s 366 Tonnes Of Gold?

Is any of the country’s gold encumbered, loaned or leased to Goldman Sachs or other banks?

* Bank of America economist on visit to Venezuelan central bank last week was allowed to view the bank’s gold vault and the gold repatriated by Former President Hugo Chavez

* Is there a possibility of this given the Venezuelan economy’s weak position?

* An arbitration court of the World Bank ruled that Venezuela needs to immediately repay $740 million to US mining company ‘Gold Reserve’.

* Repayment is connected to Venezuela having terminated Gold Reserve’s gold and copper mining project in 2009 as part of Chavez’s nationalisation of energy and mining projects

* This ruling could set a precedent for other companies to seek compensation from Venezuelan government during a time in which Venezuelan economy is weak and heavily indebted

United Nations to Propose Global Lead Ammo Ban

A United Nations agency is proposing a ban on lead ammunition worldwide, which would serve as backdoor gun control by making ammo prohibitively expensive.

The United Nations Convention on Migratory Species, operating under the U.N. Environment Programme, is meeting in Quito, Ecuador on Nov. 4-9 to discuss and act on the lead ban recommended by a scientific council.

Reference material for the conference suggests that “voluntary approaches to restricting use of lead ammunition” do not work on a national level and for a proposed ban to work, a “range of societal issues” would need to be addressed, including “philosophical issues regarding gun rights and increased government oversight of shooting.”

In Colorado, a Student Counterprotest to an Anti-Protest Curriculum

A new conservative school board majority here in the Denver suburbs recently proposed a curriculum-review committee to promote patriotism, respect for authority and free enterprise and to guard against educational materials that “encourage or condone civil disorder.” In response, hundreds of students, teachers and parents gave the board their own lesson in civil disobedience.

On Tuesday, hundreds of students from high schools across the Jefferson County school district, the second largest in Colorado, streamed out of school and along busy thoroughfares, waving signs and championing the value of learning about the fractious and tumultuous chapters of American history.

“It’s gotten bad,” said Griffin Guttormsson, a junior at Arvada High School who wants to become a teacher and spent the school day soliciting honks from passing cars. “The school board is insane. You can’t erase our history. It’s not patriotic. It’s stupid.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

"The most successful tyranny is not the one that uses force to assure uniformity but the one that removes the awareness of other possibilities, that makes it seem inconceivable that other ways are viable, that removes the sense that there is an outside." --Allan Bloom, The Closing of the American Mind

In other words, you are kept slaves not by force, but by making sure you are unaware of alternatives to the imposed reality.

There is nothing new in erasing from the curriculum knowledge the government and the money-junkies do not want you to have. The prime cause of the American Revolution, according to Ben Franklin and many of the other Founding Fathers, was King George III's Currency act, which forced the American colonists to conduct all commerce using bank notes borrowed at interest from the Rothschild-owned Bank of England. This practice plunged the working classes of America into the same crushing poverty as working people in Britain of the same time. In 1913, when a corrupt Congress and a corrupt President sold us back into the slavery of the very same system of banking, the public schools stopped teaching about the Currency act and presented the American Revolution as being about the Stamp Act, tea in Boston Harbor, and so forth, so that generations of Americans, believing they were educated, were ignorant of the fact that this nation was started and did quite well using an entirely different system of national economics.

Today the government doesn't want children growing up aware that there even was a revolution, given that we now suffer many of the same evils that prompted the first one. I am proud of these students and teachers for taking a stand against manufactured history!

National Security Study 200

SUBJECT: Implications of Worldwide Population Growth for U.S. Security and Overseas Interests

The President has directed a study of the impact of world population growth on U.S. security and overseas interests. The study should look forward at least until the year 2000, and use several alternative reasonable projections of population growth.

In terms of each projection, the study should assess:

- the corresponding pace of development, especially in poorer-countries;
- the demand for US exports, especially of food, and the trade-problems the US may face arising from competition for resources; and
- the likelihood that population growth or imbalances will produce disruptive foreign policies and international instability.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As Ebola races across Africa, it appears that the United States Government's attitude towards the crisis is rather lackadaisical at this point. Certainly it is being treated as a lower priority than sheltering the illegal immigrants flooding across the Mexican border (who given enough time, will bring Ebola with them), providing weapons and money to Israel, and trying to provoke a potentially nuclear war with Russia.

The US Government's inaction could be attributed to the fact that the politicians can;t really do anything about it, cannot get votes out of it, and so, like with Fukushima and the Gulf Oil Disaster, their plan is to ignore Ebola and pretend it just is not important.

But there may be another agenda at work; one that dates back to the Nixon Administration. In 1974, Henry Kissenger prepared a study for the President which suggested US Government policy should work for depopulation of the third world, in particular the resource-rich regions, to make those resources available to the US and to prevent the rise of a sufficiently large population able to resist US incursions.

Nixon adopted this policy, but his successor, Gerald Ford, alarmed by scandals involving covert sterilization under the guise of global vaccination programs, ended the policy. Whether it has been revived in secret is not known.

But there is no question that an Ebola epidemic, raging through the very nations the US AFRICOM is seeking ton control, plays right into that agenda of depopulation to reduce nations' ability to resist US control, and that may be the reason the US Government has done little more about the emerging Ebola crisis than flap their gums for the corporate media cameras!

SULLIVAN VERSUS UNITED STATES TRANSCRIPT - PDF

This is a transcript from a court case, Sullivan Versus United States, in which Judge James C. Fox openly admits in the court record (page 23 of this PDF) that the 16th Amendment on which the personal income tax is based was never actually ratified.

He then goes on to admit that the government and courts will treat it as if it were ratified, simply because they have gotten away with it for so long!

Webmaster's Commentary:

Today, we are hearing that the Infernal Revenue Service has been targeting political dissidents to a far greater degree than was previously exposed. Going beyond merely delaying tax-exempt status for Tea-Party, Occupy, and conservatives in general, donors to GOP candidates like Mitt Romney have been hit with disproportionate numbers of audits.

All America is now aware that the IRS is acting illegally. After all, such political targeting was an article of impeachment against Richard Nixon. So the time has come to take the discussion to the next level. Is the IRS, clearly acting illegally, itself legal? and the answer is "no", it is not. The Constitution forbids direct non-apportioned taxation of the people. An earlier version of the Income Tax was struck down by the United States Supreme Court on those grounds.

The Federal Reserve (itself a clearly unconstitutional usurpation of the money-creation authority vested in Congress by the Constitution) and the IRS claim that the passage of the 16th Amendment allows an income tax, but there are several problems with that claim. First and foremost, the 16th Amendment failed ratification! The necessary 3/4 of the states did not ratify the Amendment. Requests for proof that this Amendment was actually ratified are ignored. The IRS considers their enforcement actions the only legal reply they are required to make. And judges in tax courts (who are funded from tax revenues) inevitably refuse to examine the issue and simply declare from the bench that the Amendment was ratified, a power and authority not granted to judges under the Constitution.

There is one notable exception to this judicial legerdemain, and that is judge James C. Fox, who stated quite clearly in the court record for Sullivan Vs United States that the 16th Amendment, on examination, failed ratification. Sadly, however, that was not a tax case, and the judge mentioned the non-ratification of the 16th Amendment as justification for the enforcement of laws that may not have legally been passed, but were presumed valid through long use (i.e. we got away with it this long, so why should we change it now).

Yet another problem with the 16th Amendment is the United States Supreme Court, which ruled in Stanton vs Baltic Mining that the 16th Amendment, even if ratified, did not actually grant any new tax authority to the US Government. For one thing the original Constitutional prohibition against a direct non-apportioned tax is still in effect because it was not explicitly repealed by the hastily-contrived 16th Amendment.

So here we are, with the IRS clearly breaking the law, acting illegally, for all America to see, which is why this is a great time for activists to take the public discussion to the next level and ask if the IRS itself, and its master, the Federal Reserve, are actually legal under the Constitution.

PLEASE REPOST THIS EVERYWHERE!

BATF abuses in history - Ruby Ridge

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms first became aware of Weaver in July 1986 when he was introduced to an ATF informant at a meeting of the Aryan Nations. Weaver had been invited by Frank Kumnick, who was the original target of the ATF investigation. Over the next three years, Weaver and the informant met several times.[4] In October 1989, the ATF claims that Weaver sold the informant two sawed-off shotguns, with the barrels shortened beyond the legal limit set by federal law. Weaver denied this, claiming agents purchased legal shotguns from Weaver and later shortened the barrels themselves. In November 1989 Weaver accused the informant of being police; the informant's ATF handler ordered him to have no further contact with Weaver. In June 1990, ATF agents attempted to have Weaver act as an informant for their investigation into the Aryan Nations organization.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Like I said, the government likes to play dirty and in this case the games ended with the massacre of the Weaver Family. The US Government, without admitting wrongdoing, paid settlements to all the survivors. Today is the 20th anniversary of the final shoot out.

Founder plans to give up Oaksterdam after raid

In some of his most extensive comments since the raid, Lee acknowledged that he was worried he could face major federal drug charges. It’s a risk he has lived with for many years, first as an underground pot grower and then as the leader of a serious legalization effort, which drew vigorous opposition from the federal government.

“I never wanted to be the quote unquote leader of the legalization movement,” he said in a telephone interview. “I saw myself as just one small soldier in a big war. But I look at it as a battlefield promotion.”

Greek Pensioner Commits Suicide in Sindagma Sq-Suicide Note

The occupation government of Tsolagoglou (reference to the Occupation govt of the ex-Defence Minister Tsolagoglou who became Quisling Prime Minister of the 3rd Reich) has erased essentially any possibility of my survival which was based on a decent pension which for 35 years, I alone (without the intervention of the state) had paid.

I am at an age which doesn’t give me the individual capacity for a dynamic intervention (without of course precluding that if one Greek took up arms-Kalashnikovs, the second person would be me) I cant find another solution from a decent end before I end up looking in the rubbish bins for food.

The phony economic deception machine – JP Morgan Chase CEO earns $23 million in 2011 while 2.7 million foreclosures are filed in the US. GDP at record levels but employment figures down by 5.3 million from their peak.

The US economic and political system is doing an excellent job sealing off opportunities for millions that aspire to be part of the middle class. Many are starting to realize that the system is rigged in favor of large financial institutions and those with political connections. The idea of raw success based on talent can be thrown out the window with the corporate welfare generosity leveled at the too big to fail financial institutions.

Contrary to the image of a dangerous gun nut put out in the media in an effort to justify the burning of the church, official BATF records prove that David Koresch was rather harmless, so much so that the BATF agents invited him to go shooting with them just 9 days before they raided the church. Koresch supplied the ammunition. The BATF agents allowed Koresch to try out their weapons.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US Government justifies interventions in countries like Syria with the claim "They are murdering innocent people." Yet the US Government does not have a blemish-free history, having tried to stage a publicity-seeking raid then when that turned into a PR disaster, gassing a church full of innocent women and children to death with a poison gas that is illegal to use on enemy troops, then tried to cover it up by claiming mass suicide, then bulldozing the remains and burying the remains in a secret location. Thus, the US Government lacks the moral right to point fingers at anyone.

Georgia : GYLA Says Decision on Ivanishvili Citizenship 'Illegal'

Tbilisi-based legal advocacy group, Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) said in a statement on April 5, that the Civil Registry Agency’s decision to refuse Bidzina Ivanishvili in citizenship through naturalization “is not in line with provisions of the Georgian legislation.”

Saakashvili still has until the end of today to overturn the Civil Registry's recommendation that Ivanishvili's application be refused. If he doesn't then he is guilty of making the law up as he goes along...

“If at the time of undergoing naturalization process, an applicant has a foreign citizenship, there should be this applicant’s declared will that in case of entering into the Georgian citizenship, he/she will renounce citizenship of any other country,” GYLA said.

Before applying for citizenship through naturalization, Ivanishvili on December 29, 2011 submitted to the French embassy in Tbilisi a request for launching procedures for his withdrawal from the French citizenship. One of his lawyers, Shalva Tadumadze, said at the time that the move did not mean that Ivanishvili would now become a stateless person; Ivanishvili’s French citizenship would only be revoked in case of gaining the Georgian citizenship, the lawyer said.

“The Civil Registry Agency was aware about [Ivanishvili’s] will that he would have renounced his French citizenship in case of gaining Georgian citizenship. Accordingly, in this particular case, the goal of the law that a person should be only a Georgian citizen after receiving Georgian citizenship through naturalization would have been achieved,” GYLA said.

GYLA also cited the January 30, 2009 presidential order number 39 and a citizenship application form to back its claim that the Civil Registry Agency’s decision was not in accordance to the law. The group said that a citizenship application form contains one line in which an applicant is required to state that in case of granting Georgian citizenship he/she agrees to renounce citizenship of a foreign country and has to indicate that country.

GYLA says this formulation in the application form “unambiguously” shows that an applicant has the right to renounce foreign citizenship only after entering into the Georgian citizenship.

“The goal of the Georgian legislation is that after gaining Georgian citizenship through naturalization, a person should not remain a citizen of any other country. In this particular case, this goal was easily achievable – the Georgian President could have issued a decree on granting Georgian citizenship to a person, which would have been enforced not immediately (to avoid that a person would become a citizen of two countries simultaneously), but only after receiving an official document from the relevant French authorities on satisfying [Ivanishvili’s] application on renouncing French citizenship,” GYLA said.

Georgia : Ivanishvili Still Confident in Regaining Citizenship

A day after being refused in citizenship through naturalization by the Civil Registry Agency, Bidzina Ivanishvili, leader of an opposition Georgian Dream coalition, said he was still confident that he would regain his Georgian passport.

He said the Civil Registry Agency’s decision was so “feeble” and “senseless” that it was not even worth of commenting.

“We will boost the Georgian people’s spirit; I have a concrete plan,” he said. “We will gradually force the authorities to back-off from violence… I promise that we will bring on a situation by this fall wherein the Georgians won’t have any fear and they will freely turn out [at polling stations] and make right choice and we will say no to oppressor Saakashvili,” Ivanishvili said.

Ivanishvili also said on April 5, that decision of the Civil Registry Agency showed President Saakashvili’s “fear” towards a strong political opponent.

“Saakashvili is so afraid, he is in such agony, that he is not even capable to look several days ahead, otherwise he could have seen very well an outrage of the Georgian and international community towards his illegal actions,” Ivanishvili said.

In his comments Ivanishvili hinted that after coming into politics he was trying to provoke President Saakashvili on such actions that would have demonstrated, as Ivanishvili put it, “his real face.”

“I’ve been trying in recent six months to act in a way, to address him in a way that would have maximally promptly and well demonstrated his real face… I think we have managed it very well and I think no one in Georgia has an illusion about who this man [Saakashvili] is and about the fact that the country is ruled by a single man and everything depends on his mood,” Ivanishvili said.

U.S. Ambassador on Ivanishvili's Citizenship Case

“As a matter of principle, the United States believes that citizenship laws should be adjudicated and applied in a way that reinforces the underlying principle of equality before the law and in this particular instance we urge the government of Georgia to resolve the ongoing question of Mr. Ivanishvili’s citizenship fairly and expeditiously,” outgoing U.S. Ambassador John Bass told journalists on April 5, when asked about the Civil Registry Agency’s decision on Ivanishvili’s citizenship application.

The U.S. clearly aren't happy with Mr Saakashvili.

What the report omitted to say was that many sources, including the New York Times (could any institution be less anti-establishment?), reported in April 2009 that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed had been waterboarded 183 times in Guantanano Bay.

The BBC report went on to say, rather comically in the circumstances, was that "Khalid Sheikh Mohammed admits everything relating to the 9/11 attacks from A to Z."

Free, Fair and Competitive Elections in the Republic of Georgia?

What does the Georgian government think it can get away with, and what is it willing to risk? Too many people in Misha's circle have blood on their hands and will not give up the power which is their main or only source of livelihood; even it is the family business with some, without more blood being spilt. Many of them have demonstrated their willingness to kill before (for example, Culture Minister Nika Rurua was once exiled from the country for his long involvement with murderous gangsters only to be rehabilitated by Saakashvili without any renunciation of his crimes), and "Bacho" Akhalaia, the current Minister of Defense that once worked in the prison system and tortured prisoners for the fun of it, causing riots which resulted in prisoners being gunned down.

Such people have no place a democratic society, as confirmed by reports from the US Embassy and Human Rights organizations; they, including closely knit clans will likely not hesitate to kill and torture again. Bidzina Ivanishvili will have to maneuver carefully to prevent his supporters and the masses he seeks to win over from being threatened or killed, while also looking out for his own life (example of the late Badri Patarkatsishvili, another man branded as “oligarch” in the same way, can be recalled here).

Some may consider that Georgia is in a pretty sorry state when its people have to resort to placing their hopes in the hands of a person [Ivanishvili] worth 6.4 billion USD, but with no experience of elective office or any discernible program. This just goes to show the extent to which real democracy and rule of law is absent in Georgia. On the other hand, if someone with so much money can’t change the situation, who on Earth possibly could?

Ivanishvili’s wealth, and the fact that he is not Saakashvili, is his so-called competitive advantage, and among the cards that he can really play. However, Georgians do have the democratic right to elect someone for these reasons alone, if they so choose, but if the international community had accepted the democratic will of the Georgian people during the days of President Zviad Gamsakhurdia, the first democratically elected president, who alienated everyone except the voters by doing what he told the voters he would do, we would not be facing the present problem.

Georgian Dream Slams Decision on Ivanishvili’s Citizenship

The authorities’ “illegal” and “politically-motivated” decision not to grant Bidzina Ivanishvili Georgian citizenship through naturalization will not derail his opposition coalition Georgian Dream’s electoral plans, Maia Panjikidze, a spokesperson for the Ivanishvili-led coalition said on April 4.

MP Giorgi Targamadze, leader of Christian-Democratic Movement and of a small parliamentary minority group, said “no one will believe” the ruling party lawmakers’ statements that the Civil Registry Agency’s decision was only about legal matters.

It seems that the Saakashvili gang, unable to find a reason to refuse Ivanishvili the restoration of his citizenship which was withdrawn, apparently in an attempt to prevent him from running in the forthcoming elections, has resorted to stonewalling tactics by saying, after waiting the full 3 months in which they must legally respond to his application to become a naturalized Georgian citizen, that he must now apply for dual-citizenship (as he currently holds a French passport) and wait a further 3 months for a decision on his new application, rather than grant him citizenship now, under the naturalization process.

Even worse than SOPA: New CISPA cybersecurity bill will censor the Web

H.R. 3523, a piece of legislation dubbed the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (or CISPA for short), has been created under the guise of being a necessary implement in America’s war against cyberattacks. But the vague verbiage contained within the pages of the paper could allow Congress to circumvent existing exemptions to online privacy laws and essentially monitor, censor and stop any online communication that it considers disruptive to the government or private parties. Critics have already come after CISPA for the capabilities that it will give to seemingly any federal entity that claims it is threatened by online interactions, but unlike the Stop Online Privacy Act and the Protect IP Acts that were discarded on the Capitol Building floor after incredibly successful online campaigns to crush them, widespread recognition of what the latest would-be law will do has yet to surface to the same degree.

DHS won't explain its order of 450 million hollow point bullets

After 9/11, the United States government created the Department of Homeland Security to prevent future acts of terrorism and deal with other domestic issues. Now in order to keep doing such, the agency is asking for 450 million hollow point bullets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

For those who may not understand the name, a "hollow point" bullet has a cavity at the tip which causes the bullet to flatten out on impact, causing far more injury than a non-expanding full metal jacket round. Hollow points are illegal to use in war, I might add. So the DHS is not only buying enough bullets to shoot every living American they are buying ammunition that is illegal to use in combat against enemy troops, which is designed to inflict the maximum amount of damage and death.
