Judge concerned Univ. of Illinois may destroy Steven Salaita evidence

A federal judge has ordered the University of Illinois to preserve all evidence related to the Steven Salaita case.

In a ruling issued Tuesday, US District Judge Harry Leinenweber cited evidence presented by Salaita’s lawyers that the university had “attempted to destroy or hide communications regarding this case and that defendants had flouted known disclosure obligations in the past.”

In light of this information, the judge wrote that he had “concerns” about whether the university would comply with obligations currently in place to protect evidence.

Are pro-Israel bullies on US campuses planning dirtier tactics?

A member of the University of California’s governing body has called for the expulsion or suspension of students for expressing their views about Israel, under the guise of combating anti-Jewish bigotry.

This comes as Israel lobby groups, flush with huge new injections of cash, are stepping up their efforts to silence the Palestine solidarity movement on campuses nationwide.

During a 17 September meeting of the University of California (UC) Regents to discuss a “statement of principles against intolerance,” Richard Blum also threatened to have his wife, US Senator Dianne Feinstein, publicly criticize the university if it did not enforce penalties against perceived bigotry.

Feinstein’s criticism could put the university system under federal scrutiny.

LIBERALS SIGN PETITION TO BAN TALKING ABOUT POLITICS & RELIGION IN PUBLIC

Mark Dice’s latest ‘man on the street’ stunt once again illustrates how people are completely ignorant of their constitutional right to free speech under the First Amendment.

“We don’t really need people talking about politics or religion out in public,” Dice tells one man who signs the petition before responding, “Yeah we need to chill.”

“We’re just trying to mute people’s political and religious speech,” says Dice as the man’s partner signs the petition.

An older man whose father possibly fought in the Second World War to defend the freedoms that Americans should hold dear also signs the petition while agreeing that the First Amendment wasn’t designed to allow people to express political views in public.

“Right, cause it’s going to lead to a confrontation – always does,” he states.

Bible-thumping Texas public school principal accused of covering up student molestation for ‘PR’ reasons

A high school principal in Texas –already under fire for conducting daily Bible readings with his students — has been accused of harassing a whistle-blower teacher for going to the cops about a fellow teacher sexually assaulting a student, reports the Dallas Morning News.

According to former teacher MariBeth Thomas, Prosper High principal Greg Wright called her on the carpet for turning to the police after a student confided in her that a teacher had been touching her and making sexual advances.

In a lawsuit filed against the school district, Thomas claims Wright was upset with her for going to the police, saying he viewed news of the molestation as a public relations issue.

AMERICANS TRUST IN MAINSTREAM MEDIA HITS ROCK BOTTOM

Four in 10 Americans say they have "a great deal" or "a fair amount" of trust and confidence in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately and fairly. This ties the historical lows on this measure set in 2014 and 2012. Prior to 2004, slight majorities of Americans said they trusted the mass media, such as newspapers, TV and radio.

STOP the University of California from Banning Criticism of Israel

In a draft Statement of Principles[2], you refused to conflate criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism but still called for broad restrictions on intolerance. The LA Times[3] editorial board said your statement failed the free-speech test.

Even so, student lobbyists and Israeli lobby organizations pressured you to form a new committee to revisit the State Department’s definition of anti-Semitism in order to further restrict political speech.

While we, the petitioners, denounce racism and bigotry against Jews, Muslims, and any and all ethnicities, religions, and gender identities, we also recognize that California already has laws[4] on the books against hate crimes and hate speech that carries an implicit threat. We do not need a duplicative policy statement or an unconstitutional Statement of Principles designed to silence voices that question the status quo.

Teachers Talk About What’s Wrong With Education in America

Waking Times

In a country that invests more heavily in prisons than in schools, it’s no surprise that public education in America is not what it could be, not by a long shot. Students and teachers are being stressed to the max by a rigid, top-down control structure that makes it more and more difficult for students to learn, and makes it more and more unlikely that well-meaning people will choose educating as a career.

HOW US PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAVE COME TO INCREASINGLY RESEMBLE PRISONS INSTEAD OF LEARNING CENTERS

In the American police state, you’re either a prisoner (shackled, controlled, monitored, ordered about, limited in what you can do and say, your life not your own) or a prison bureaucrat (police officer, judge, jailer, spy, profiteer, etc.).

Indeed, at a time when we are all viewed as suspects, there are so many ways in which a person can be branded a criminal for violating any number of laws, regulations or policies. Even if you haven’t knowingly violated any laws, there is still a myriad of ways in which you can run afoul of the police state and end up on the wrong side of a jail cell.

Unfortunately, when you’re a child in the American police state, life is that much worse.

Microcosms of the police state, America’s public schools contain almost every aspect of the militarized, intolerant, senseless, overcriminalized, legalistic, surveillance-riddled, totalitarian landscape that plagues those of us on the “outside.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is truly a crime against the most fragile members of our society, our kids, and needs to be changed.

But until such a change happens, where schools are once again a place of learning, encouragement, and the teaching of critical thinking, I have two words for every parent who reads this blog: HOME SCHOOL!!

And if your state forbids this, move to a state that does not. You, and your children, will be far better off in the long run.

The Greatest Threat to Campus Free Speech is Coming From Dianne Feinstein and her Military-Contractor Husband

There is no shortage of American pundits who love to denounce “PC” speech codes that restrict and punish the expression of certain ideas on college campuses. What these self-styled campus-free-speech crusaders typically — and quite tellingly — fail to mention is that the most potent such campaigns are often devoted to outlawing or otherwise punishing criticisms of Israel. The firing by the University of Illinois of Professor Steven Salatia for his “uncivil” denunciations of the Israeli war on Gaza — a termination that was privately condoned by Illinois Democratic Senator Dick Durbin — is merely illustrative of this long–growing trend.

Schools Attempt to Force False Reefer Madness on Children Using Bogus “Weed Goggles”

School and anti-marijuana activist groups in Hancock County are debuting “marijuana goggles” at a community event this weekend, in an effort to “fight teen drug use.” According to WISH TV, “the goggles allow the teens to see through the eyes of someone who has been smoking, without ever lighting up themselves.” The Neighborhoods Against Substance Abuse (NASA) and Hancock County Youth Council are understandably concerned with abuse of alcohol and other drugs, but use of the goggles, which creates fear based on false realities, is questionable.

Some Jews and Zionists Are Using Exaggerated Hysteria to Destroy Free Speech on UC Campuses

There is something very disturbing going on with the University of California school systems that is more serious than over-inflated allegations of anti-Semitism and hate crimes on college campuses in California, and that is special interest bully pulpit attempt by some Jews to get regulations passed that outlaw any kind of speech that that basically rejects the Zionist project in Israel as a Jewish State. This is a very serious attack on free speech in one of America’s college systems. Trying to broaden the definition of anti-Semitism as “denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination and denying Israel the right to exist” is clearly political blackmail. For several years now various Jewish right-wing organizations and individuals have been waging a political battle against criticism of Israel and Zionism and now it is focusing more and more on American campuses. Maine mayor: ‘Name and shame’ welfare recipients so special needs kids will stay out my state

Robert MacDonald, mayor of Lewiston, said on Sunday that he wanted to publish a registry of welfare recipients because he was annoyed by disabled children coming to the state for help.

In a column last week MacDonald explained his plan to publish names, addresses and other personal information of welfare recipients.

According to MacDonald, Somali refugees were not the problem in his city because they had jobs. But he complained that “the domestic people” were abusing welfare benefits.

“They’re coming into our state, and what’s happened here is we have a school system,” MacDonald opined. “And one of the things about our schools system is second to none, it’s special ed education department that attracts them all.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

One is forced to conclude that MacDonald's "modest proposal" with which to "cure" the problem of kids with disabilities and their families coming to Maine because of their special ed programs is euthanasia for those children (perhaps he could get very excited by the idea of death of these children by firing squad), and the immediate, forcible sterilization of their mothers.

Education Secretary Duncan’s children to go to Chicago private school he attended

Education Secretary Arne Duncan grew up in Chicago and attended the private, prestigious University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. The pre-K-12 Lab Schools are progressive institutions that, according to its Web site, “ignite and nurture an enduring spirit of scholarship, curiosity, creativity, and confidence” and “value learning experientially, exhibiting kindness, and honoring diversity.”

The teachers there are unionized and respected by administrators. President Obama’s two daughters attended the school before moving to Washington in 2009, and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s children are enrolled there now. And in the fall, Duncan’s children will be attending Lab, too, while his wife works there.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning. These private schools work, because they are not lowering the standards to Common Core levels, which destroys any kid's ability to reason and think critically.

And ultimately, no matter the stink about H1N1 visa-empowered employees "taking away jobs from Americans", it is because these people can think their way out of problems that they are getting these jobs.

Common Core's aim is to dumb down our kids, and replace independent, critical thinking with the hive mind, compelling blind obedience to government, no matter what the morality of what that government is doing.

Thumpathumpthump, Here Come Trump: Pols Have Knickers in Knot

Posted on September 24, 2015 by Fred Reed

He takes no guff from the loathsome talking heads who have never baited a hook or worried about a mortgage payment or been bankrupted by the confluence of Wall Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. He doesn’t whimper and wriggle and apologize like a puppy who has wet the rug after saying something that upsets the priss spigots. CPS Workers Are Now Being Stationed in Our Schools

Many of you reading this probably remember a time when seeing a school resource officer was a rare occurrence in public schools. It was one of those situations that was mainly reserved for crime ridden inner city schools. But as time went on, more and more police departments started employing officers whose chief responsibility was to watch our kids, even in districts with low crime rates. Now there are nearly 20,000 of these officers nationwide.

It turns out that we may be seeing the beginning of a similar trend in our public schools, but instead of police officers, it will be with employees from Child Protective Services. In Erie County, New York, the school districts have announced a new partnership with the Department of Social Services, that would allow CPS workers to show up in their schools several days a week. They will have to provide an office for the workers, who will be able to “streamline” their investigations into child welfare.

Florida's Holocaust Mandate

In 1994, the Florida Legislature passed the Holocaust Education Bill (SB 660) which amends Section 233.061 of the Florida Statutes (Chapter 94-14, Laws of Florida), relating to required instruction. The new law requires all school districts to incorporate lessons on the Holocaust as part of public school instruction. The statute reads as follows:

Florida Statute 1003.42(f)
The history of the Holocaust (1933-1945), the systematic planned annihilation of European Jews and other groups by Nazi Germany, a watershed event in the history of humanity, to be taught in a manner that leads to an investigation of human behavior, an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping, and an examination of what it means to be a responsible and respectful person, for the purposes of encouraging tolerance of diversity in a pluralistic society and for nurturing and protecting democratic values and institutions.

We, champions of the First Amendment, urge you to preserve the University of California’s 1960s legacy as a bastion of free speech and robust political debate.

In this spirit, we ask you refrain from adopting a policy statement[1] to censor political speech by threatening to expel or suspend students critical of Israel.

We understand that after student senators at 7 of the 9 University of California campuses passed resolutions calling for the University to divest from corporations profiting off of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, some students campaigned for harsh restrictions on political speech. They demanded you, the Regents, pass a resolution adopting a State Department document defining anti-Semitism as denying Israel’s right to exist – and to expel or suspend students who dared to challenge the establishment of a Jewish homeland on Palestinian territory.

The following story is another example of how our typical response to tragedy as Americans is to overreact and turn to complicated, unnecessary solutions to simple problems. Ahmed Mohamed leaves Texas school after clock arrest

The family of a 14-year-old Muslim student who got in trouble over a homemade clock mistaken for a possible bomb withdrew the boy Monday from his suburban Dallas high school.

Ahmed Mohamed's father, Mohamed El-Hassan Mohamed, said he has pulled all of his children from their Irving Independent School District schools. Mohamed said the family is still deciding where to send the children to school.

Ahmed has said he brought the clock he made to MacArthur High School in Irving last week to show a teacher. Officials say he was arrested after another teacher saw it and became concerned. Ahmed wasn't charged, but he was suspended from school for three days.

"Ahmed said, 'I don't want to go to MacArthur,"' Ahmed's father told The Dallas Morning News. "These kids aren't going to be happy there."

News of the arrest sparked an outpouring of support for Ahmed, including from President Barack Obama.

A policy promoted by Florida Atlantic University administrators is proving controversial among faculty at the South Florida college. The proposed set of rules, “Post-Tenure/Sustained-Performance Evaluation,” was recently authored by a subcommittee of senior professors, administrators and former administrators under the auspices of the University’s Faculty Senate.

Shortly thereafter, however, the document went through a process of heavy revision overseen by FAU Provost Gary Perry and college deans who want to grant themselves the ability to potentially terminate any tenured faculty member.

1953 High School Quiz - Could You Pass?

I found an interesting quiz that my dad saved from his high school days, where students were asked to fill out anatomical locations of a sheep and lamb. He filled out all the correct answers. Students were required to list all 26 'points of the sheep' and 8 'locations of standard wholesale lamb cuts.' This was back when many people still had small farms, or at least a few chickens, and gardens and there were orange groves all over Southern California.
These were the days, by the way, when my dad actually would, on occasion, carry his .22 rifle to school- he'd keep it in the coat closet, and would go hiking with his friends after school. I've included a picture of the anatomy test and also a picture of him in high school too, just for fun. ;-)

Ahmed Mohamed swept up, 'hoax bomb' charges swept away as Irving teen's story floods social media

Irving’s police chief announced Wednesday that charges won’t be filed against Ahmed Mohamed, the MacArthur High School freshman arrested Monday after he brought what school officials and police described as a “hoax bomb” on campus.

At a joint press conference with Irving ISD, Chief Larry Boyd said the device — confiscated by an English teacher despite the teen’s insistence that it was a clock — was “certainly suspicious in nature.”

School officers questioned Ahmed about the device and why Ahmed had brought it to school. Boyd said Ahmed was then handcuffed “for his safety and for the safety of the officers” and taken to a juvenile detention center. He was later released to his parents, Boyd said.

“The follow-up investigation revealed the device apparently was a homemade experiment, and there’s no evidence to support the perception he intended to create alarm,” Boyd said, describing the incident as a “naive accident.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was no naive accident. This was a case of those who cannot do wind up as teachers, and apparently not one of the teachers or administrators had the knowledge to look at the device and understand it was just a digital clock!

Why? Could it have something to do with Ahmed Mohamed’s name, or the color of his skin? His father thinks so. “He just wants to invent good things for mankind,” Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed told the Dallas Morning News. “But because his name is Mohamed and because of Sept. 11, I think my son got mistreated.”

Number Of Homeless Public School Students Hits Record High. Here's Who's Helping

Last year, 1.36 million public school students were homeless, according to data released by the Department of Education. That’s almost double the amount recorded in the 2006-2007 school year.

SHOW AND TELL BECOMES HELL FOR MUSLIM STUDENT

When a Muslim 9th grader brought his homemade clock, a circuit board wired to a digital display, to school in Irving, Texas, he was led out in handcuffs for creating a “hoax bomb.” Ahmed Mohamed now says he’ll never bring one of his inventions to school again.

This story has gone viral over the last 24 hours, and people are pointing fingers at Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne — a right-wing extremist who gives speeches at churches about how Muslims are “infiltrating” her suburban Texas community.

Mayor Van Duyne has misused Christianity to create a climate of fear and Islamophobia, and now that climate has resulted in the arrest of a 14-year-old boy for the crime of using his God-given gifts of curiosity and inventiveness.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is no question Ahmed Mohamed is the victim here. The claim that he made a "hoax bomb" is nonsense. He told everyone he showed it to it was a clock. But the damage goes far beyond Mohamed and includes every other student who watched this happen. They, Like Ahmed, will be less likely to experiment and bring their projects to school.

The above is a photo from my grade school days when the school had a model contest.

I built a model telephone.

That worked.

I won a prize, which encouraged me to go on working with technology.

So if today's "educational" system reacts to inventive students in such an over the top manner, and shuts down their inventiveness instead of rewarding it ... where do tomorrow's high technology designers and engineers come from?

Schoolteachers in Oklahoma Undergo Concealed Carry Training

By Tyler M.

A school district in Oklahoma announced this week that several of its teachers are training for concealed carry permits. The teachers are expected to begin carrying in the classroom in November.

Wilson Public Schools announced that six of its teachers have enrolled in the training. The district superintendent said that having armed teachers in each of the district’s school buildings would make the students safer...

University Of Illinois 'Israel' Scandal

The Scientific Management of Children

John Taylor Gatto exposes the truth about education. Gently wake and guide your children to understanding the real world they are growing up in and allow them to make thier own judgements and build their own belief system. What they are doing to our children in schools is a barbaric crime against humanity, the education system = destruction of free will and the “self”.

University Of Illinois 'Israel' Scandal

Free Speech is a basic tenet of academic discourse.

But if you’re anti-Israel, free speech bites the dust.

The latest victim of Jewish censorship is Professor Steven Salaita, fired from the University of Illinois.

Salaita’s a Palestinian American with Christian roots and ethnically cleansed grandparents.

His offense was to tweet barbed criticisms of Israel’s war on Gaza.

Stanford Business School dean steps down amid sex scandal, lawsuit

After months in the shadows, a high-stakes drama of sex and betrayal among the loftiest echelons of Stanford University burst into the open Monday, as the school announced that Garth Saloner would step down as dean of the Graduate School of Business.

The shocking announcement came shortly before a bombshell news report linking the South African-born economist to a wrongful termination suit by a former Stanford professor whose wife was allegedly having an affair with Saloner.

Apparently, yesterday's shooting on the Delta Campus was the result of a dispute over a woman!

PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE THE NEW INMATES IN THE AMERICAN POLICE STATE

From the moment a child enters one of the nation’s 98,000 public schools to the moment she graduates, she will be exposed to a steady diet of draconian zero tolerance policies that criminalize childish behavior, overreaching anti-bullying statutes that criminalize speech, school resource officers (police) tasked with disciplining and/or arresting so-called “disorderly” students, standardized testing that emphasizes rote answers over critical thinking, politically correct mindsets that teach young people to censor themselves and those around them, and extensive biometric and surveillance systems that, coupled with the rest, acclimate young people to a world in which they have no freedom of thought, speech or movement.

If your child is fortunate enough to survive his encounter with the public schools, you should count yourself fortunate.

Most students are not so lucky.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have three words for parents with school age kids: home school them!!

And that number of 30% of publicly schooled kids will wind up arrested?!? This is completely insane!!

Campus is seen as next battleground against Iran Deal — by ‘rightwing fanatics’

Pro Israel campus groups are top-down affairs controlled by outside lobbying groups and big time donors. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee and Hillel work together to train student activists. The agendas are established by groups such as Stand With Us (SWU).

None of this program is new or surprising. But it’s causing a schism over the Iran Deal. According to a Times of Israel op-ed by Tracy Frydberg, titled “Pro-Israel campus groups worry Iran deal debate will end in ‘anti-Semitic hatefest“, a new directive has been given to students to place opposition to the Iran Deal as a primary focus of their campus activism and claims: “there is little room for dissent or even discussion over the merits of supporting the Iran deal”.

And students aren’t happy about it. According to student activist Justin Hayet:

“The Iran deal can’t define Israel activism… The pro-Israel community is increasingly being perceived as [a group of] right-wing fanatics.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel is being hoisted on their own Iran petard!

Paranoia and Pernicious Prosecutions: The Department of Injustice Continues its War Against the Innocent

Dept of Injustice or Dept of Incompetence?

snip: Furthermore, prosecutors almost certainly would have made an obvious appeal to xenophobia among jurors, and it is hard to imagine a jury not voting for “guilty” on at least one count, which often is just what happens in federal criminal trials. One does not need to have committed a crime to be convicted of wrongdoing in federal court, and federal criminal law itself pretty much makes it a crime for a defendant to exercise his constitutional right to a trial. (The penalties one receives if convicted at trial are substantially greater than the penalties given when one pleads guilty.)

Public School Students Are the New Inmates in the American Police State

snip: It has been said that America’s schools are the training ground for future generations. Instead of raising up a generation of freedom fighters, however, we seem to be busy churning out newly minted citizens of the American police state who are being taught the hard way what it means to comply, fear and march in lockstep with the government’s dictates.

As I point out in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, with every school police raid and overzealous punishment that is carried out in the name of school safety, the lesson being imparted is that Americans—especially young people—have no rights at all against the state or the police.

Public School Students Are the New Inmates in the American Police State

By John W. Whitehead
September 14, 2015

“Every day in communities across the United States, children and adolescents spend the majority of their waking hours in schools that have increasingly come to resemble places of detention more than places of learning. From metal detectors to drug tests, from increased policing to all-seeing electronic surveillance, the public schools of the twenty-first century reflect a society that has become fixated on crime, security and violence.”—Investigative journalist Annette Fuentes

In the American police state, you’re either a prisoner (shackled, controlled, monitored, ordered about, limited in what you can do and say, your life not your own) or a prison bureaucrat (police officer, judge, jailer, spy, profiteer, etc.).

Homeschool parents sue New Jersey, allege ‘unlawful, unconstitutional home intrusion’

By Valerie Richardson - The Washington Times - Sunday, September 13, 2015

Nothing really changed after a New Jersey state social worker banged on Christopher and Nicole Zimmer’s front door, and yet everything was different.

Over the next two hours, the social worker quizzed their 15-year-old son, Chris, including questions on whether his parents fought or did drugs. She wanted to see his homeschool curriculum. She wanted to inspect their firearms. She told the Zimmers to sign papers agreeing to turn over their son’s medical records.......

University Of California May Give Students Right To Not Be Offended

The University of California may explicitly recognize a right for students to not be offended, if a resolution under consideration is approved by the board of regents next week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What a far cry from the University of California in the 1960s, when students unconcerned with offending anybody helped bring about the end of the war in Vietnam!

What happens when the Christian students are offended by the teaching of evolution?

What happens when the physically challenged are offended by the athletic program?

What happens when the foreign students are offended by the use of the English language on campus?

What happens when the feminists are offended by ... any class with male students?

"He who dares not offend cannot be honest." -- Thomas Paine

"People have tried to corner the market on being offended, corner the market on language and corner the market on opinion. Should I lose my job 'cause I offended somebody? No, of course not." -- Patrice O'Neal

"The curse of our society is that we have way too many people whose only sense of self-value is that they can find something to be offended by. But there is and never has been any guarantee that you will not be offended and in a society that values free speech, one must accept things that one finds offensive as the price one pays to say things that others may find offensive." -- Michael Rivero

Standardized Testing A Foreign Concept In Finland With World's Top Students

As the United States focuses more on using tests as a means of holding educators and school districts accountable, Finland--which is one of the top performers on international tests--has gone in the opposite direction.

In the U.S., states give annual high-stakes exams that determine whether schools must undergo reforms, in some cases whether students can pass to the next grade level or graduate from high school, and increasingly whether teachers can receive tenure and keep their jobs. Yet the U.S. tends to rank in the middle on international tests.
