The highest-paid university boss in England was yesterday accused of 'setting an example of greed' as it emerged that dozens of her staff earn more than £100,000 a year.

Dame Glynis Breakwell, who earns almost £500,000 in pay and perks as vice-chancellor of the University of Bath, has 66 senior colleagues on six-figure salaries – with 13 of these earning more than £150,000 a year.

How teachers, firemen and college endowments ended up enriching America’s hedge fund billionaires

Public pensions and college endowments are some of the biggest investors in hedge funds, investment vehicles that have made their managers some of the wealthiest people in the world.Middlemen funnel this public money into the hedge funds, as do funds of funds. All of them collect fees.Pensions could have been better off investing in cash than in hedge funds, largely because of the high fees investors pay hedge fund managers. Hedge funds haven’t met the expectations for endowments over the past several years, either.

The dumbing of an age: America’s public schools are failing, and here are the facts to prove it

When compared with other countries in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the United States has abysmal scores. This cross-national survey gauges the knowledge and skills of 15-year old students in the country, and going by the most recent results from 2015, they’re lagging behind their foreign counterparts. Out of 71 countries, the U.S. ranked 38th place in math and 24th place in science.

The aforementioned figures are nothing short of depressing, especially when you consider that education is the most expensive item in 41 state budgets, and that the Department of Education has an annual spending budget of $73 billion. Just as saddening is the fact that, when adjusted for inflation, the amount of money being spent on each student in American public schools has increased by a staggering 663 percent.

14 Facts That Prove That America’s Absolutely Pathetic System Of Public Education Deserves An ‘F’ Grade

One thing that almost everyone can agree upon is that our system of public education is broken. We spend far more money on public education than anyone else in the world, and yet the results are depressing to say the least. Considering how much we are putting into education, we should be producing the best students on the entire planet, but it just isn’t happening. Personally, I attended public schools from kindergarten all the way up through law school, and the quality of education that I received was extremely poor. Even on the collegiate level, most of the courses were so “dumbed down” that even the family dog could have passed them. And of course millions of other people all over the country would say the same sorts of things about their own educations. Many refer to what is happening to our society as “the dumbing down of America”, and if we don’t get things fixed the United States is on course to become a second class nation.

Baltimore has turned into a Democratic wasteland with six schools that can’t even produce a single student proficient in English or math

An investigation by Project Baltimore found that five high schools and one middle school in the district should pretty much be shut down at this point because they’re serving no useful purpose whatsoever. Booker T. Washington Middle School, Frederick Douglass High School, Achievement Academy at Harbor City, New Era Academy, Excel Academy at Francis M. Wood High, and New Hope Academy all failed to pass even just one student that met the minimum requirements for exceptional proficiency in either of the two subjects.

Frederick Douglass High School had the worst results out of all six schools. With 185 students in total, a shocking 165 of them achieved a 1/5 on the proficiency scale, with 1 indicating that these students in no way met proficiency expectations. Nineteen students partially met expectations ranking at 2/5, but were still considered to be not proficient. Only one student scored a 3/5 for “approaching expectations,” though even this one was dubbed not proficient.

'Boo hoo hoo. You white people are angry because you couldn't use your white privilege card': Black college professor is fired in wake of heated Fox News interview where she made racially insensitive comments

A New Jersey community college has fired an adjunct professor after officials say she made racially insensitive comments on Fox News.

Lisa Durden was axed from Essex County College as the adjunct communications professor on Friday - roughly two weeks after she appeared on 'Tucker Carlson Tonight'.

Essex County College's president Anthony Munroe announced the decision Friday and said officials at the school had received complaints about her heated interview with Carlson.

UCLA Releases 'Resistance' Handbook; Defines Trumpism As "White Supremacy, Misogyny, Xenophobia..."

There is little doubt that America's bastions of higher indoctrination (a.k.a. "Universities") have become nothing more than training grounds for future generations of social justice warriors. The war for America's college campuses has become so heated that liberal administrators, the same people who used to pride themselves on challenging their students to step outside their comfort zone and open themselves up to dissenting opinions, have taken to shutting down free speech when it doesn't perfectly align with their 'enlightened' world view.

Turkey to stop teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution in high schools

TURKEY will stop teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution in high schools, deeming it controversial and difficult to understand, a senior education official says.

Critics say President Tayyip Erdogan and the Islamist-rooted AK Party are undermining modern Turkey’s secular foundations by pushing a conservative agenda, including tighter regulation of alcohol and other restrictions, since coming to power in 2002.

A chapter entitled Beginning of Life and Evolution will be deleted from the standard biology textbooks used in schools and the material will be available only to students who go on to university studies from age 18 or 19, Alparslan Durmus, head of the national education board said in an online address this week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The American comedian Ron White has a one-liner which absolutely applies here: "You can't fix stupid."

And this ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid move has obviously been done to dumb down Turkish high school students by people who utterly do not understand the incontrovertible science of evolution.

Shut the front door! 7 Percent of Americans think brown cows produce chocolate milk

Making chocolate milk is easy. All you need to do is mix chocolate powder with regular milk, add some cocoa and sugar, and then you get to enjoy your drink. However, several million people say you don’t need ingredients at all — you get your flavorful chocolate milk treat straight from the cow itself. Apparently, seven percent of American adults — yes, adults, not little toddlers who think that the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Santa Claus are real — believe that brown cows make chocolate milk. IN RHODE ISLAND, STUDENTS AND PARENTS MUST LET SCHOOLS SPY ON THEM DAY AND NIGHT THROUGH THEIR LAPTOPS

A majority of the Rhode Island school districts with "1-1" programs where each student is issued a laptop have a blanket policy of spying on the students and everything they do on their laptops, during, before and after school hours, on or off school premises, without any evidence (or even suspicion ) of wrongdoing.

The schools analogize this to school locker searches, in which students are denied any Fourth Amendment protections. But that (very dubious) principle is being stretched beyond the breaking point, as school lockers are in schools, whereas these laptop searches are being carried out remotely, everywhere, anywhere.

This isn't so different from the policies asserted by employers who require workers to take devices home, then assert the right to spy on them using those devices, installing their own certificates so they can stage "man-in-the-middle" interceptions of private sessions between employees and their email providers, financial institutions, etc.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How "1984" of Rhode Island!!

Were I a parent with a kid in school where these devices are mandatory, I would immediately pull that kid out of that school, and put them in a private school where such policy does not exist.

Failing that, because of the cost, I would "vote with my feet", and move to another state where this policy is not pursued.

High Schools Drop "Valedictorian" Distinction Fearing Lower-Ranked Kids May Feel 'Triggered'

We've spent a fair amount of time over the past several years writing about the 'participation trophy generation' (a.k.a. "millennials) and, more specifically, how their inflated sense of entitlement and self-worth, irrespective of work effort and/or innate talent, would not serve them well in the real world.

You see millennials, despite what your enabling handlers (a.k.a. "educators") have told you your whole life, people here in the real world couldn't care any less about your feelings, think your 'Gender Studies' degree was a complete waste of your parents' money, will not promote you just because anything less would be a 'triggering' event and do not recognize your standing to demand 'safe spaces'.

In fact, taking a moment to truly internalize the following quote from our favorite movie would serve you well.

KIDS HORRIFIED AFTER COPS HOLD MOCK CHILD SEX TRAFFICKING DRILL, WITHOUT SAYING IT’S A DRILL

The Florida Highway Patrol is reviewing its presence at the Girls State Program after troopers conducted a kidnapping/human trafficking drill which went “horribly wrong” according to WFTV News Channel 9.

The girl’s program is attended by some of best and brightest high-schoolers Florida has to offer. “Everyone who’s going is at the top of their class,” Cameron Carlyle said describing the high-quality candidates who attend the elite leadership camp. But no amount of education could have prepared the girls for what happened on the last night of their training.

The Girls State director along with six Florida State Troopers, all female, pulled an attendee aside and told her she would be participating in a kidnapping drill, one which highlighted the real-world problem of sex trafficking. Under the cover of secrecy, the volunteer named “Katrina” was taken to a safe place. Thereafter, roll call was taken with the remaining girls.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Were I a parent of one of these young women, I would have pulled my daughter out of that program, and their school, so quickly that it would make heads spin.

Sexual trafficking is a serious problem.

That being said, what the State Troopers should have done was to educate these young women about how they can avoid getting into situations where something like this could happen, and how to fight back, if they are abducted.

EVERGREEN STATE FACULTY TURN ON BRET WEINSTEIN, SAY HE ‘ENDANGERED’ STUDENTS

A letter was sent Friday to students by the faculty at Evergreen State College, saying they stand behind the protesters and wish to pursue disciplinary action against Professor Brett Weinstein.

The Oregon college of about 4,000 students erupted in protests last week after Weinstein, a leftwing biology professor, told student activists he did not agree with their “Day of Absence” plans. The Day of Absence is usually conducted by students of color leaving the campus for the day, to bring awareness to their presence and issues. This year, however, student activists wanted all white students and faculty to leave for the day. Weinstein, who supported the former Days of Absence, called this year’s plan an act of oppression.

The blowup was highly publicized by the media, and the campus was shut down yesterday and today due to a man calling local police, threatening to shoot up the school.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Endangering students" by not agreeing to their demands that no Caucasians be allowed on campus for the "Day of Absence"?!?

When in Sam Hill did college education get so messed up?!?

And before ANYONE accuses me of "racism", etc., etc., let me remind you that I graduated from Cal States Dominguez Hills (Compton-adjacent), and we had a "rainbow college community" which just got along beautifully, because we all had our eyes of the prize of a college education which would better our opportunities for work, once we graduated.

And it didn't matter that we were this crazy quilt pastiche of Asians, Hispanics, African-Americans, and...people who looked like me.

Weinstein will probably lose tenure, and get fired, for making what, I think, is a reasonable observation about this "Day of Absence".

And that is a bloody shame; and I say this, because no problem in society, even in college, can be resolved, without all of us, working to make this world a better place, together as a team, no matter what our ethnic background may be.
