How Germany Is Blowing Up The European Union

As Germany is set to reject a Greek loan extension request (and no, international press, that is not the same as an extension of the bailout program), Steve Keen uses proprietary numbers issued by the OECD – which is supposed to be on Germany’s side?! – to show how dramatically austerity has failed in Europe- that is, if the recovery of the Greek and Spanish economies was ever the real target. It certainly failed the populations of the countries.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Austerity was never meant to improve the lives of the people. It was designed to loot the people to make the private central bankers richer than they already are!

Debt Fraud: Greece Actually Owes Nothing!

NATO, not Russia, threatens Baltics: Moscow

Moscow has rejected the British defense secretary's allegation that Russia poses a threat to the Baltic countries, saying the real risk comes from NATO's increased activity.

Greece Is Just the Beginning. ISIS and Ukraine Are Skirmishes: “The Real War is Economic and Currency Related”

Greece alone has the potential to unravel the Euro-zone and shatter the fragile dominoes across the global financial markets. And that’s just one area that is exploding.

Though Russia is taking a hit from the falling gas prices, and the combined effect of sanctions, it has also been furiously stockpiling gold and working with China and the BRICS nations to build a counter-balance to international development and currency manipulation, as SHTF has reported.

Something huge is happening with currencies on the global scene, but it is a quiet war – you won’t hear about it on the mainstream news. Just make sure it doesn’t sneak up on you; instead, be as prepared as you possibly can for whichever why the wind blows and the hammer falls. Have you considered your plan? Have you invested in gold, silver, storables or valuable barter items?

Germany and EU Look Set to Reject Greece’s Request for Six-month Loan Extension

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble denounced a new Greek proposal for a six-month loan extension with the naked ultimatum, “It’s not about an extension of the loan programme, it’s about whether this program is fulfilled, yes or no.”

He was reiterating Germany’s demand that Greece honour Greece’s commitment to impose savage austerity measures to the hilt, irrespective of the dire consequences for millions of working people.

A further indication of German opposition came Wednesday evening, with the decision of the European Central Bank (ECB) to grant a further extension of only €3.3 billion to Greek banks accessing the ECB’s Emergency Liquidity Assistance fund.

Europe Will Implement Both Border and Capital Controls in the Coming Months

This is not some idle conjecture. We know that the political elite in Europe are only too happy to ignore the rule of law whenever the crisis gets too out of hand. Indeed, this won’t even be the first time that this happens in the EU.

Back in March of 2012, when the EU Crisis first began to spin out of control, then Prime Minister of France Nicolas Sarkozy openly called for the renegotiation of the Schengen Treaty: the treaty that established the 26-nation EU as a “borderless” entity in which individuals could move from one country to another with little difficulty and which also made trade among EU members easier.

France was not alone either. A few months later, both France and Germany proposed imposing border controls in June of that same year.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So the EU is a union only for the bankers.

Top German Media Continue to Discredit Themselves with Obviously False Headlines

The German media is between a rock and hard place. That it seems to be infiltrated by US and German intelligence services which enforce a rigid, propagandistic line, is widely recognized and openly discussed.

But it has little room for manoeuvre. Either it continues to push propaganda, and discredit itself, or it starts to be more objective, and risk swinging public opinion against US interests. The stakes couldn’t be higher, because Germany’s position on the Ukraine crisis is the deciding factor in EU policy on this crucial issue.

De-Dollarization Accelerates: Russia Launches SWIFT-Alternative Linking 91 Entities

Back in 2013, The NSA was first exposed for secretly 'monitoring' the SWIFT payments flows. This appears to have been among the last straws for Russia (and others) as far as both NSA spying and dollar domination.

Last year, following threats to remove Russia from SWIFT by the UK, (which SWIFT rapidly distanced its 'independent-self' from), Russia (and China) announced plans to create its own de-dollarized version. In November, Russia detailed the SWIFT-alternative's launch date around May 2015, and just last month, Medvedev warned of "unlimited reaction" if Russia was cut off from the SWIFT payments system.

So the news this week that Russia has launched its own 'SWIFT'-alternative, linking 91 credit institutions initially, suggests de-dollarization is considerably further along than many expected (especially as Russia dumps US Treasuries at a record pace).

Israeli analyst warns European Jews not to migrate to Israel

Israeli analyst Zvi Bar'el has criticised Benjamin Netanyahu's suggestion that European Jews should migrate to Israel to escape what the prime minister claims is a "growing wave of anti-Semitism" and the "Islamic State threat". Bar'el pointed out that Israel is unable to fulfil Netanyahu's promises to new immigrants.

"Fear in Israel is greater, the crime level is higher and the terrorism threat is more real," wrote Bar'el in an article published by Haaretz newspaper. He pointed out that the real problem is not only that the Jews of Europe aren't safe. "The Jews of Israel have a hard time being convinced that their haven can face up to the threats in the region that Netanyahu warns them of daily," he claimed. "Let's assume that thousands of Jews do decide to abandon their businesses, studies, homes and livelihoods and board rescue flights to Ben-Gurion International Airport. What will they find here?"

Greece And Euroland's Crumbling McMansion Of Debt

Sometimes the best way to summarize a complex situation is with an analogy. The Greek debt crisis, for example, is very much like the subprime mortgage crisis of 2007-08.

As you might recall, service workers earning $25,000 annually got $500,000 mortgages to buy McMansions in subprime's go-go days. The applicant fudged a bit here and there on income and creditworthiness, and lenders reaping huge profits from originating and selling mortgages were delighted to ignore prudent underwriting standards and stamp "low-risk" on the mortgage because it was quickly sold to credulous investors.

The bank made its money in transaction and origination fees, and passed the risk of default on to investors who accepted the fraud that the loan was low-risk.

‘What part of no don’t you understand?’ TTIP critics target EU trade commissioner

EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom’s visit to London to promote the EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) has been met with protest, as MPs say more transparency is needed to address public concern.

Malmstrom’s meeting with business and political leaders Monday afternoon was an attempt to shore up more public support for the deal, which has been criticized for allowing large corporations to flourish at the expense of small businesses.

Business Secretary Vince Cable will tell the Commissioner there are many benefits for the US and the EU, but only if politicians are given access to TTIP as the treaty develops, so that they can ask questions on behalf of the public.

Protest group StopTTIP UK, however, say Monday’s meeting ignores the fact “people across the EU are loudly and clearly rejecting” TTIP, claiming the trade deal could jeopardize governments’ legal freedom and will lower trade standards.

False Flag Attacks By Zionists Against Fellow Jews

Jewish leaders talking up the threat of “anti-Semitism” in order to induce Jews to immigrate to Israel is of course not new. Such talk emanating in the immediate aftermath of what appear to have been false flag attacks by Zionists against fellow Jews–this also is not new.

...

At the time in question, the early 1950s, Israel was ethnically cleansing the Ashkelon area and forcing Palestinians who lived there into the Gaza Strip. Farms were indeed taken over, and so, yes, there was a need for cheap labor, and Jews from Iraq provided a good source. And to make sure that the new arrivals were wholly dependent upon their earnings as laborers, Israel saw to it that they were forced, for the most part, to leave their property and possessions behind in Iraq.

The Breaking HSBC Scandal Reveals UK Govt Is Chief Henchman Of The Mafia Banking System

An international collaboration of media outlets have leaked HSBC files which prove the Bank has actively sought to undermine domestic tax laws by hiding more than $100bn in Swiss bank accounts – but what is truly remarkable, it the complicity of the UK government in helping the 1% avoid paying their dues.

Sicilian mafia families have a position in their criminal organisation called the ‘consigliere’. The consigliere is a close, trusted friend and confidant.

Germany faces impossible choice as Greek austerity revolt spreads

The political centre across southern Europe is disintegrating. Establishment parties of centre-left and centre-right - La Casta, as they say in Spain - have successively immolated themselves enforcing EMU debt-deflation.
Spain's neo-Bolivarian Podemos party refuses to fade. It has endured crippling internal rifts. It has shrugged off hostile press coverage over financial ties to Venezuela. Nothing sticks.
The insurrectionists who came from nowhere last year - with Trotskyist roots and more radical views than those of Syriza in Greece - are pulling further ahead in the polls. The latest Metroscopia survey gave Podemos 28pc. The ruling conservatives have dropped to 21pc.
The once-great PSOE - Spanish Workers Socialist Party - has fallen to 18pc and risks fading away like the Dutch Labour Party, or the French Socialists, or Greece's Pasok. You can defend EMU policies, or you can defend your political base, but you cannot do both.

Italy’s South Tyrol may serve as model for Ukraine's east — Italian FM

Italian autonomous region Trentino-Alto-Adige, also known as South Tyrol, can serve as a model for the settlement of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine’s east that could help to preserve the country’s territorial integrity, the Italian foreign minister told a local daily on Wednesday.

In an interview with La Stampa daily Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said that "the model of our South Tyrol may suit the eastern regions of Ukraine."

"There is certainly a different context but this way we may find a solution to the preservation of the Ukrainian sovereignty and protection of its borders with the respect of minorities’ rights," Gentiloni said.

Is Soros Preparing A Color Revolution For Greece?

For those watching the developments from afar, the hope is that the spark in Greece will light the brushfire across Europe and the rest of the world that says “No!” to austerity and banker domination of national economies.

Greece's leaders stun Europe with escalating defiance

Greece’s finance minister Yanis Varoufakis has spelled out the negotiating strategy of the Syriza government with crystal clarity.

“Exit from the euro does not even enter into our plans, quite simply because the euro is fragile. It is like a house of cards. If you pull away the Greek card, they all come down,” he said.

“Do we really want Europe to break apart? Anybody who is tempted to think it possible to amputate Greece strategically from Europe should be careful. It is very dangerous. Who would be hit after us? Portugal? What would happen to Italy when it discovers that it is impossible to stay within the austerity straight-jacket?”

EU widens sanctions against Moscow and Ukraine rebels, implementation delayed

The European Union has announced new sanctions against Russian officials and Ukrainian militias, but will postpone enforcing for a week, pending new peace talks in Minsk on Wednesday, according to French foreign minister Laurent Fabius.

"The principle of these sanctions remains but the implementation will depend on results on the ground. We will see by [next] Monday and see how the meeting in Minsk went," said French foreign minister Laurent Fabius.

The foreign ministers of the 28 European Union member states added five Russian citizens, TASS sources said. The ‘black list’ also reportedly includes 14 members of the eastern Ukrainian militia and nine organizations the EU considers responsible for the escalation of violence in Ukraine.

The four-way talks in the Belorussian capital between Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France are set to take place on Wednesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sanctions are most generally preludes to war.

Were I a betting woman, I would not bet on the coming Minsk Conference to offer any concrete solutions to the crisis at hand.

And why?!? It is simple: Poroshenko has been given his marching orders by Washington to accelerate the pain and devastation in the breakaway republics.

Additionally, Poroshenko refuses to bend in any way to federalize these republics which are looking for autonomy, and claims that they must fall under the complete sway of Ukrainian hegemony.

This is not a recipe for constructive negotiations; it is a recipe for utter disaster.

President Obama may think that there is a point past which Putin will not be goaded, and will feel he has to act against Ukraine.

But I understand that Putin is a master chess player, and may very well not give Obama the war he wants here.

Russia's Newest Military Base In Europe Will Be Just 40km From NATO Facilities In Cyprus

"We want to avoid further deterioration in relations between Russia and Europe," explained Cyprus' President Nicos Anastasiades upon reportedly signing an agreement to offer Russia military facilities on its soil (that we noted previously). The air force base at which Russian planes will use is about 40 kilometers from Britain's sovereign Air Force base at Akrotiri, on the south shores of Cyprus, which provides support to NATO operations in the Middle and Near East regions. As fault lines within the EU widen, Anastasiades said in his interview that Cyprus opposes additional sanctions against Russia by the European Union over Ukraine, "Cyprus and Russia enjoy traditionally good relations and that is not going to change."

Syriza Official Vows to Kill EU-US Trade Deal as 'Gift to All European People'

An official with Greece's newly elected Syriza party may have sounded the death knell for a proposed EU-U.S. trade deal that has faced a mountain of opposition from civil society.

The deal is the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), now facing its eighth round of talks between negotiators this week in Brussels.

The TTIP, which would be the biggest trade deal ever, has been criticized as a corporate-friendly deal that threatens food and environmental safety under the guise of "harmonization" of regulations.

Georgios Katrougkalos, now deputy minister for administrative reform, confirmed what he had told EurActiv Greece ahead of his Syriza party's victory last week: that his parliament would not ratify the trade deal.

With 26 Trillion In Currency Derivatives At Risk, The Day Of Reckoning For The Euro Has Arrived

This is the month when the future of the eurozone will be decided. This week, Greek leaders will meet with European officials to discuss what comes next for Greece. The new prime minister of Greece, Alexis Tsipras, has already stated that he will not accept an extension of the current bailout. Officials from other eurozone countries have already said that they expect Greece to fully honor the terms of the current agreement. So basically we are watching a giant game of financial “chicken” play out over in Europe, and a showdown is looming. Adding to the drama is the fact that the Greek government is rapidly running out of money. According to the Wall Street Journal, Greece is “on course to run out of money within weeks if it doesn’t gain access to additional funds, effectively daring Germany and its other European creditors to let it fail and stumble out of the euro.”

'Russia's growing threat': After Ukraine, fears grow that Baltic states could be Vladimir Putin's next targets

The West must stand up to Russia over Ukraine or Europe could descend into a major war for the first time since 1945, diplomats warned today as efforts to negotiate peace hung by a thread.

As the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, prepared to brief Barack Obama in Washington on Monday about the state of the negotiations, a former US ambassador to Ukraine predicted that Estonia and the other Baltic states – all members of Nato – could be Vladimir Putin’s next targets if he is allowed to hold on to territory won by force.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Russia is not the aggressor here. The Unites States has admitted "brokering" and funding the coup that drove the elected government from Kiev a year ago, triggering this last twelve months of war. Russia has not done anything here. If Russia had really come across that border they would have been in Kiev in 48 hours. Shame on the Independent for parroting the US propaganda. A Day Of Reckoning For The Euro Has Arrived – 26 TRILLION In Currency Derivatives At Risk

This is the month when the future of the eurozone will be decided. This week, Greek leaders will meet with European officials to discuss what comes next for Greece.

According to the Bank for International Settlements, 26.45 trillion dollars in currency derivatives are directly tied to the value of the euro.

Let that number sink in for a moment.

To give you some perspective, keep in mind that the U.S. government spends a total of less than 4 trillion dollars a year.

The entire U.S. national debt is just a bit above 18 trillion dollars.

So 26 trillion dollars is an amount of money that is almost unimaginable. And of course those are just the derivatives that are directly tied to the euro. Overall, the total global derivatives bubble is more than 700 trillion dollars in size.

Tsipras favours Greek jobless over creditors in defiant policy speech

The Greek prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, has announced his anti-austerity government programme in a defiant address that prioritised the jobless and destitute over international creditors who have lent the country more than $300bn (£200bn).

In his first policy speech before parliament, he said his government did not have the right to prolong the five-year bailout deal that has foisted austerity on Greece, and felt a duty “not to disappoint” those who had voted him into power.

“We see hope, dignity and pride returning to Greek citizens. Our obligation and duty is not to disappoint them,” he told the 300-seat house. “We realise that negotiations [with foreign lenders] won’t be easy … but we have faith in our struggle, because justice is on our side.”

Remember Stalingrad: Russian Veterans Write Open Letter to Angela Merkel About NATO’s New War

Six Russian veterans of the Battle for Stalingrad have written an open letter to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel concerning NATO and Washington DC’s current drive to ramp-up a proxy war between The West and Russia which is cynically using the Ukraine as their 21st century battleground to gain geopolitical dominance over the Eurasian heartland.

Perhaps the biggest reservation of these veterans who survived what is arguably the largest fields of bloodshed in World War II, is the fact that the US and NATO nations are allied with Nazi political leadership in Kiev. This is a story which the western media consistently refuse to acknowledge.

Is the West about to sell out Ukraine to Vladimir Putin?

As Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande fly to Russia, they will need to carefully gauge the psychology of a man who has brought Europe to the brink of war

Webmaster's Commentary:

As usual, the Telegraph has it totally wrong. The man who has brought Europe to the edge of war is Barack Obama, whose administration has admitted "brokering" and funding to the tune of five billion dollars the coup that ousted Ukraine's elected government of Yanukovich and installed the Poroshenko Junta, triggering chaos in Ukraine. Merkel and Hollande are talking with Putin (without consulting the White House that started this mess) because France and Germany were major battlegrounds for the first two World Wars and understandably are reluctant to allow a third on their territory.

I wonder if the Telegraph will now claim to have been shot down in a helicopter in Iraq!

NATO Buildup Near Russian Borders Undermines Security - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated Saturday that NATO military buildup near the Russian borders fuels up confrontation and undermines European security.

Lavrov met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference to discuss the deterioration of relations between Russia and NATO in light of the Ukrainian crisis.

"NATO's course on strengthening its military potential and expanding its military presence and infrastructure on the alliance's 'eastern flank' as well as an increase in the number of exercises near the Russian borders creates additional tensions, provoke confrontation and undermine the whole system of Euro-Atlantic security," the Russian Foreign Ministry quoted Lavrov as saying.

NATO top commander in Europe says 'military option' possible in Ukraine

NATO’s commander in chief says the West should not rule out arming Ukraine. General Philip Breedlove said no troops would be sent to the region, but providing Kiev with weapons and equipment was on the cards.

Europe And U.S. Clash Over How To Confront Putin On Ukraine

Germany's Angela Merkel warned on Saturday that sending arms to help Ukraine fight pro-Russian separatists would not solve the crisis there, drawing a sharp rebuke from a leading U.S. senator who accused Berlin of turning its back on an ally in distress.

The heated exchange at a security conference in Munich pointed to the fragility of the transatlantic consensus on how to confront Russian President Vladimir Putin over a deepening conflict in eastern Ukraine that has killed more than 5,000.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, also in Munich, said there were "good grounds for optimism" that the talks between Merkel, Putin and Hollande could yield a deal.

But Lavrov also delivered a diatribe against the West. He accused Europe and the United States of supporting a "coup d'etat" against deposed Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovich, a Moscow ally, a year ago and turning a blind eye to nationalists he said were intent on ethnic cleansing in eastern Ukraine.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to the editorial board of Reuters: congratulations!!

Because having published this this article, without ever fact checking, thinking the "big lie" was going to go down easily with thinking Americans, you have well and truly flushed any small thread of public credibility you ever had in the 21st century.

You might think about hiring Brian Williams.

Lavrov is completely right in his assessment of the US's complicity in the coup d'etat which brought down the duly elected (albeit crooked as a dog's hind leg) leader Viktor Yanukovich. Obama and Victoria Nuland have publicly admitted so.

As reported at infowars.com:

Obama’s candid admission should not come as a surprise following the release of a surreptitiously recorded conversation between Victoria Nuland, the US-Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, and Geoffrey R. Pyatt, the US Ambassador to Ukraine. The conversation centered on ousting Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych and replacing him with one of several hand-picked State Department choices. Nuland instructed Pyatt to “have the UN glue this thing” and then dismissively added “fuck the EU” for its role negotiating the crisis. The U.S. orchestrated “transition,” as Obama characterized it, resulted in the appointment of fascists to key positions in the Kiev government and led to the current war in eastern Ukraine launched by Petro Poroshenko, the former confectionary magnate turned Ukrainian president. Poroshenko’s war on those who do not accept the nationalist government in Kiev has thus far killed more than 5,000 people, although unofficial tallies are far higher. In the not too distant past, the U.S. government attempted to hide its involvement in coups and the removal of democratically elected leaders. It relied primarily on the CIA to foment coups and counter-revolutions. However, since the advent of NGO and foundation spawned “color revolutions” attributed to the people of target countries, while in actuality orchestrated by USAID and the National Endowment for Democracy, the U.S. government has admitted its role in overturning governments.

Also, as reported at informationclearinghouse.info:

US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Nuland said: “Since the declaration of Ukrainian independence in 1991, the United States supported the Ukrainians in the development of democratic institutions and skills in promoting civil society and a good form of government - all that is necessary to achieve the objectives of Ukraine’s European. We have invested more than 5 billion dollars to help Ukraine to achieve these and other goals. ” Nuland said the United States will continue to “promote Ukraine to the future it deserves.”

Since when, ladies and gentlemen of Reuters, do you characterize telling the hard truth, which Lavrov did, as having "delivered a diatribe against the West"?!?

The facts on the ground, in the face of these two interviews, are incontrovertible.

OF course, NO ONE, apparently, at Reuters was actally going to do the real fact checking legitimate journalism deserves; it was simply too time consuming, too...professional to get one's hands dirty doing.

And that comment about Russia having "annexed" Crimea?!?!?

This is a bald-faced lie, and you know it. And it is apparent that whoever threw this verbal vomit together has absolutely no understanding of history.

When the legitimate Ukrainian leadership of Yanukovic was cut short, Crimea requested to become part of the Russian Federation. Crimea had been historically Russian, until it was, itself, annexed by Kruschev, himself a native Ukrainian, in the mid-50s.

This Crimean referendum was characterized by international observers as free and fair; one can hardly say that about the election of Poroshenko in the Ukraine.

And if I know this, as just an average American, then milllions more of us Americans understand this as well.

Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande are flying to Moscow after meeting Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kiev. In Moscow, the German Chancellor and the French President intend to discuss a new plan for the regulation of the Ukrainian conflict. The new plan is said to be a considerable addition to the Minsk Agreements. The plan supposedly suggests maintaining Ukraine's integrity providing greater autonomy to the Donbass.
