First U.S. Carrier Returns To Gulf Since Trump Inauguration

A U.S. aircraft carrier passed through a strategic waterway separating Iran from U.S.-backed Arab states on Tuesday for the first time since President Donald Trump took office two months ago.

Nearly 20 smaller Iranian boats looked on as the USS George H.W. Bush approached the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz. About one-fifth of the world’s oil passes through the Strait and there are occasional incidents in the area involving U.S. and Iranian military vessels.

Years of mutual animosity eased when Washington lifted sanctions on Tehran last year after a deal to curb Iran’s nuclear goals. But serious differences remain over Iran’s ballistic missiles as well as conflicts in Syria and Iraq.

While still a presidential candidate in September, Trump vowed that any Iranian vessels that harassed the U.S. Navy in the Gulf would be “shot out of the water

Webmaster's Commentary:

I firmly believe that, given half a chance, Iran could be a tolerable partner to the US; of course, that's not going to happen, because Saudi Arabia and Israel don't want to see it happen.

And BTW, Tehran is on my bucket list, for the incredible, consistent history, art, and culture. Their national orchestra is wonderful

And if you ever get the chance, please see the following video, done by a charming Israeli videographer, when he went to Iran to see how its Jewish community was faring, and the answer is, quite well!.

Don't Tell Mother I'm In Iran

A war against Iran, to mollify Saudi and Israel would be one big, fat, hairy mistake, because most likely the Russians will enter such a war on the side of Iran.

And the US military doesn't have the troop strength; the money; the weaponry; or the manufacturing to guarantee a positive outcome to a conventional war with Russia.

Saudi General: Trump Promises Increased Support Against Iran

Saudi Brig. Gen. Ahmed al-Asiri today told a group of US reporters that the Trump Administration has made promises to “significantly” increase US intelligence and military support for the kingdom against Iran, with a particular eye of fighting against the “Iran-backed” Shi’ites in Yemen.

Asiri presented the move as a necessary US commitment to “restore” US-Saudi ties after Saudi resentment that built up during President Obama’s time in office. Though he did not elaborate, Saudi Arabia’s main source of anger at Obama was going along with the nuclear deal with Iran.

Saudi Arabia has long presented its invasion of Yemen as being about the Shi’ites there being an “Iranian proxy,” though evidence suggests no real Iranian support for the Houthi movement before the invasion, and very limited support, mostly to spite the Saudis, afterwards.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word here please.

Iran has not started a war of aggression in over 300 years.

The IAEA says that Iran has been complying will all facets of the P5+1 Agreement.

If the US and Saudi Arabia start a war against Iran, Russia will definitely come to its defense militarily.

And right now, the US military does not have the troop strength; the money; the weaponry; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia.

And finally, Mr. President, I would like to politely point out to you that it is not Iran which is slaughtering children, women, and non-combatants in Yemen, or starving them to death; it is your good pal, Saudi Arabia, in whose war crimes in Yemen you have decided that the US government will continue to be complicit.

More Mideast Madness as Trump Prepares to March

We are now moving rapidly into stage II of Levantine Madness as the US boosts its intervention in the war-torn Mideast.

Five thousand US troops are back in Iraq to bolster the shattered nation’s puppet regime that is propped up by American bayonets. New Iraqi military formations have been formed, totally equipped with modern US M1 Abrams tanks, Humvees, and fleets of trucks. More US forces are on the way.

As if this witch’s brew was not sufficiently toxic, US and Russian aircraft and Special Forces are brushing up against one another in Syria. At the same time, the US Navy in the nearby Persian Gulf is provoking the Iranians to please President Donald Trump who seems determined to have war with Iran.

The US Navy is now threatening to impose a naval blockade on war-torn Yemen, another joint US-Saudi warfare enterprise that has gone terribly wrong.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am deeply concerned about the lousy quality of counsel, and information, President Trump is getting regarding the US military presence in the Middle East, and Afghanistan, and how things in the countries in which we are fighting are getting worse, and not better at all.

IF the leadership of both NATO and and the US government had a shred of sense regarding Afghanistan, they would have their troops exit this country as quickly as was safe, and negotiate with whatever government remained standing in Kabul for the pipeline routes, and the rights to the amazing level of mineral deposits Afghanistan possesses.

Of course... THAT would be logical.

Into the Syrian Quagmire – Trump meets complexity

In order to fulfill his pledge to “quickly” dispatch ISIS, Trump is ramping up the US presence – and we’re well on the way to getting sucked into the Syrian quagmire.

Donald Trump thinks he’s going to get rid of ISIS in Syria “quickly,” and then we’ll be on our way to making America great again – but already he’s finding that the terrain there is a bit crowded, and that he has a bit more than the fast-dissipating “Caliphate” to contend with.

According to reports, the Pentagon has come up with a plan to carry out Trump’s pledge, as ordered, but reality is racing ahead of the generals – and auguring a clash of civilizations in the midst of Syria’s blasted out cities.

Netanyahu to meet Putin, says Iran seeks permanent foothold in Syria

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday to voice opposition to what the Israeli leader charged were Iran's attempts to establish a permanent military foothold in Syria.

"In the framework of a (future peace agreement) or without one, Iran is attempting to base itself permanently in Syria - either through a military presence on the ground or a naval presence - and also through a gradual attempt to open a front against us on the Golan Heights," Netanyahu told his cabinet in public remarks on Sunday.

"I will express to President Putin Israel's vigorous opposition to this possibility," he said.

Iran, Israel's arch-enemy, has been Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's staunchest backer and has provided militia fighters to help him.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yes, the head of Iran's naval command did say this last November.

Iran may seek naval bases in Yemen or Syria: chief of staff

But before Netanyahu complains to Putin on this visit about how horrible the threat these potential bases might pose to Israel, he needs to read it in context; this was stated by General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri to a bunch of Iranian naval officers.

And in that context, it comes across more as a brag, about ultimate Iranian naval capability, rather than a game plan per se.

And Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, a word, please: Russia's President is a very, very bright man, with intimate, and broad, knowledge of geopolitical realities.

He will not be pushed or bullied into taking a stand which is against the interests of the Russian people.

GRAPHIC: MCCAIN INSTITUTE TAX FILE FROM 2014 SHOWING $300,000 GIVEN BY ROTHSCHILD'S AND 1 MILLION BY THE SAUDI'S.

Webmaster's Commentary:

John Mc Cain's estimated net worth stands at around $21 million dollars.

John Mc Cain's estimated net worth

And of course, a financial empire like that requires constant care and feeding, hence the contribution from Saudi Arabia to the Mc Cain Institute. And the question which must now be asked is, how much of that $1,000,000.00 contribution from Saudi Arabia trickles back to Senator Mc Cain himself?!? And who are the other "contributors" to this institute, potentially from the US's military industrial complex?!?

Pay to play, anyone?!?

This must be the reason why Mc Cain is constantly advocating for war against Iran, and supports the Saudi's carnage in Yemen, where schools and hospitals are getting bombed; children get bombed from the air by Saudi attacks; and children are dying of malnutrition because Saudi military have blocked the ports, so no food can get in. And just to spell it out for you in the most graphic way I can, here is what Senator Mc Cain is supporting in the Saudi war against Yemen:

Images: Yemeni children killed or wounded by Saudi air strikes

Images: Yemeni children dying from malnutrition, due to Saudi military closing Yemeni ports to food aid.

It is painfully apparent that, as a Christian witness and Christian Pacifist activist, I need to remind Senator Mc Cain that collective punishment (as is being visited upon the Yemeni people by the Saudi military) is a war crime.

But hey, Senator, all that death and destruction going on in Yemen, courtesy of a foreign government with supports you financially, is just collateral damage, and nothing to be morally concerned about in any way, right sir?!?!?

TRUMP’S “MODERATE” DEFENSE SECRETARY HAS ALREADY BROUGHT US TO THE BRINK OF WAR

DID YOU KNOW that the Trump administration almost went to war with Iran at the start of February?

Perhaps you were distracted by Gen. Michael Flynn’s resignation as national security adviser or by President Trump’s online jihad against Nordstrom. Or maybe you missed the story because the New York Times bizarrely buried it in the midst of a long piece on the turmoil and chaos inside the National Security Council. Defense Secretary James Mattis, according to the paper, had wanted the U.S. Navy to “intercept and board an Iranian ship to look for contraband weapons possibly headed to Houthi fighters in Yemen. … But the ship was in international waters in the Arabian Sea, according to two officials. Mr. Mattis ultimately decided to set the operation aside, at least for now. White House officials said that was because news of the impending operation leaked.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sec-Def Mattis, a word, please.

Can you please define, for me, the rest of the country, and the world, just what the heck Iran has actually done to tick you off so badly you would like to start a war against it?!?

Has it not, sir, come to your attention, that Iran hasn't started a war in over 200 years?!?

Is Saudi Arabia, and/or Israel, and their perceptions of Iran, pushing you in this direction?!?

Would such an incident not been a "back door" to a war against Russia, which will almost inevitably come to Iran's aid militarily?!?

And sir, the timing for such a confrontation is thoroughly ill-advised right now, and for the following reasons; at this point, the US military doesn't have the weaponry; the troop strength; the money; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war against Russia over Iran.

And I am not saying anything you shouldn't know by now, sir; facts are facts.

As a Christian pacifist activist, who constantly exhorts her government to achieve its geopolitical goals through hard-won, honest, ethical negotiations, I am appalled that this kind of action even crossed your mind, as the "right thing" to do to Iran's military on the suspicion that some of their ships may be running arms to the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

And the US-government enabled Saudi bloodbath in Yemen can only be stopped ultimately through negotiations.

Sir, the entire situation in Yemen needs to be re-thought; the Saudi campaign here, two years on, is primarily destroying infrastructure; slaughtering civilians; and starving innocent children.

Images: Yemeni children wounded and killed by Saudi bombing runs

Images: Yemeni children starving to death due to Saudi blockades of Yemen's ports

By supporting the Saudi government in this genocide of the Yemeni people, the US government is complicit in war crimes, Sec-Def Mattis.

As a Christian witness, who never condones violence,I am, therefore, imploring you, as someone I believe to ultimately be an honorable person, to find another way to stop this madness in Yemen which doesn't involve more slaughter of the Yemeni people.

According to the insider, which I named "X", "Flynn was removed because he was agitating for a strike against Iran which would have had disastrous consequences. That would have led to Iranian strikes against Western oil supplies in the Middle East, raising Russia's economic power as the oil price would have soared to over $200 a barrel, and the EU would have had to join the Russian-Chinese block, or not be able to obtain sufficient energy to survive. Signs are emerging that the deep state, the zionists, and the neocons who haunt the halls of power in the United States are preparing to wage all-out war against the sovereign nation of Iran. An escalation of this magnitude in the already occupied and devastated Middle East would certainly push the world over the brink and into all out World War III with the U.S. pitted against China and Russia. An unwinnable conflict that would forever scar human history and the planet.

Regardless of how many rationally-minded and sensible people speak out in favor of peace, the warfare state sets its own objectives, yet these voices must be heard.

Iran and U.S. Tension Heats Up; Iranian Navy Holds Massive Drill

Last year, the Obama administration entered into a nuclear deal with Iran, ostensibly opening up a new era of US-Iran relationships. The Trump administration has stepped up its rhetoric against Iran with President Trump tweeting that “Iran is playing with fire” after the Republic’s ballistic missile test at the end of January.

In the following video, Right Wing News looks at the implications behind Iran’s large-scale military naval drills in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran seems hell bent on testing the ‘red line’ drawn up by the Trump administration and if they push too far, the consequences could be devastating.

Democratic Ex-Dove Proposes War on Iran

Rep. Alcee Hastings has sponsored a bill to authorize President Trump to attack Iran. Hastings reintroduced H J Res 10, the “Authorization of Use of Force Against Iran Resolution” on Jan. 3, the first day of the new Congress after President Trump’s election.

Hastings’s bill has come as a shock to constituents and people who have followed his career as a 13-term Democratic Member of Congress from South Florida. Miami Beach resident Michael Gruener called Hastings’s bill, “extraordinarily dangerous,” and asked, “Does Hastings even consider to whom he is giving this authorization?”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have to wonder just how Rep. Hastings feels about having been "purchased" by Israel to do its bidding in Iran.

But I think that he will find that his transformation into a war hawk will not earn him more votes if he runs for re-election, even with massive AIPAC assistance.

Moreover, I am astonished that what he does not understand is that any war with Iran will almost inevitably lead to a war with Russia; perhaps with his future financial security having been "made" through his utter obeisance to Israel, he doesn't really give a damn about his constituents any more.

Because at this point in its history, the American military does not have the weaponry; the troop strength; the manufacturing; or the money to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia.

President Trump: Diplomacy and Democracy in America

Win or lose, the Trump Administration has opened a debate on the possibilities of peace with a nuclear superpower, a re-examination of the huge trade deficit and the necessity to stand-up for democracy against authoritarian threats from the so-called ‘intelligence community’ against an elected President.

By the end of the first month of President Trump’s Administration we are in a better position to evaluate the policies and direction of the new President. An examination of foreign and domestic policy, particularly from a historical and comparative perspective will provide insights about whether America is heading for a catastrophe as the mass media claim or toward greater realism and rationality.

TRUMP GETS READY TO PICK JOHN BOLTON AS ADVISOR

White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters that Trump will speak to former US ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, acting national security adviser Gen. Keith Kellogg, West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Robert Caslen, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, who directs the Army Capabilities Integration Center, and “potentially more” candidates. Those meetings will take place Sunday, Spicer said.

Two other candidates, former Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal and former CIA Director David Petraeus, are no longer in the mix, sources told CNN Friday night. The front-runner for the post, Vice Adm. Behind Israel’s Hostility toward Iran

Western news media has feasted on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s talk and the reactions to it as a rare political spectacle rich in personalities in conflict. But the real story of Netanyahu’s speech is that he is continuing a long tradition in Israeli politics of demonizing Iran to advance domestic and foreign policy interests.

The history of that practice, in which Netanyahu has played a central role going back nearly two decades, shows that it has been based on a conscious strategy of vastly exaggerating the threat from Iran.

Flashback: 2009 Brookings Institution Analysis Paper - WHICH PATH TO PERSIA? Options for a New American Strategy toward Iran [PDF]

The best way to minimize international opprobrium and maximize support (however, grudging or covert) is to strike only when there is a widespread conviction that the Iranians were given but then rejected a superb offer—one so good that only a regime determined to acquire nuclear weapons and acquire them for the wrong reasons would turn it down. Under those circumstances, the United States (or Israel) could portray its operations as taken in sorrow, not anger, and at least some in the international community would conclude that the Iranians “brought it on themselves” by refusing a very good deal.

Eleven Ominous Signs That We Are Racing Towards War with Iran

Before we get to the all the signs indicating that war with Iran is on the books, it is important to remember why the US and its masters are targeting Iran. Firstly, Iran has become the arch-enemy of the Saudi-Israeli alliance because it is the one country militarily and economically strong enough to challenge their dominance of the Middle Eastern region. There is no love lost between Israel and Iran, who have traded insults and threats for decades; meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Iran are home to the 2 sides of the Sunni-Shia conflict within the Muslim world (Saudi Arabia – Sunni, Iran – Shia). Trump is a Zionist down to his very bone marrow and DNA, and evidently also afraid to take on the Saudis who were conspicuously omitted from EO immigration ban of 7 nations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iran hasn't been the problem, in terms of supporting terrorism in the Middle East; the main culprits here have been Israel and Saudi Arabia.

President Trump’s foreign policy is sliding toward neoconservative orthodoxy on the Middle East because White House insiders are aligning with Israeli-Saudi interests and vowing undying hostility toward Iran, which they falsely insist is the chief sponsor of terrorism.

I’m told that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, privately at least, recognizes that Saudi Arabia and its Sunni-led Gulf state allies are the prime backers of Al Qaeda and Islamic State – with Iran actually fighting these major terror groups – but close advisers to President Trump, including son-in-law Jared Kushner and National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, appear wedded to Official Washington’s “group think” blaming Iran for pretty much everything that’s gone wrong in the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It pains me to see just how quickly President Trump swallowed the koolaid, and has fallen into this trap, which may well lead to war with Iran, which will almost inevitably lead to war with Russia.

So a memo to President Trump.

Mr. President, it is not the Iranians who are killing women, children, and the medically infirm and elderly in Yemen with impunity: it is the Saudis, and you, sir, have just signed off on their war crimes and continued to made the US government complicit in them by approving the sale of more weapons to them.

Trump Approves Weapons Sales To Saudi Arabia And Bahrain

Additionally, you therefore have just followed in the footsteps of your predecessor, President Obama, in continuing to make the US government complicit in the starvation deaths of Yemeni children, because the Saudis are blocking the Yemeni ports, preventing food from coming in.

Images: wounded and Killed Yemeni children, from Saudi air strikes

Images: starving Yemeni children, courtesy of Saudi military blocking Yemen ports

And I must very candidly tell you that I never believed that just three weeks into your presidency, you would, again, continue to make the US government complicit in Saudi war crimes in Yemen; but, yet, here we are, sir, and I, and many of my brother and sister Americans, are singularly distressed at this turn of events.

The Trump Administration’s Iran Obsession and Yemen

Philip Giraldi does an excellent job of summarizing Flynn’s warped worldview and its role in encouraging the Trump administration’s Iran obsession:

But the situation is actually much more dangerous than the usual Washington groupthink: Flynn and Ledeen have constructed a narrative in which the world is at war with a great evil and Iran is the central player on the enemy side. It is a viewpoint that is, unfortunately, shared at least in part by the new secretaries of defense and state and endorsed by many in Congress. This has consequently developed into a new sensibility about U.S. national security that is apparently driving the Trump administration’s responses to Iranian behavior.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is very disturbing to me, in light of the reality that should the US government decide to go to war relatively soon against Iran, Russia will most likely aid Iran militarily.

And at the moment, as I have reiterated like a chipped CD, the US military does not have the weaponry; the troop strength; the money, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war with Russia.

And Mr. President, as a Christian witness, I am calling you out on ANY further aid to Saudi Arabia, vis a vis Yemen.

Saudi Arabia is gleefully committing war crimes here, of an astronomical, and ghastly nature; women, children, and the medically fragile elderly are getting slaughtered, and the infrastructure is getting absolutely destroyed by Saudi forces. Additionally, Yemeni children are starving to death, because the Saudis have completely blockaded the ports, so food doesn't get in.

Do I need to remind you, Mr. President, that collective punishment is a war crime?!?

So you, and your staff, had better take a good hard look at the following images; this is what your "good buddy", Saudi Arabia, is doing right now in Yemen, and yes, the word "genocide" does come to mind:

Images: Yemeni children starving to death, courtesy of the Saudi Yemen ports blockade

Images: wounded and killed Yemeni children from Saudi air strikes

By choosing to participate in assisting the Saudi military with their war crimes, by selling them the weapons with which to do so, and providing targeting, you have made the US government complicit in these war crimes as well.

And whoever told you that this was a battle against Iran that the US military could "win" in Yemen, is thoroughly delusional, sir; there's no "there" there.

No, Yemen’s Houthis actually aren’t Iranian puppets

Trump: Iran’s Rouhani ‘Better Be Careful’ in Comments

Continuing his ratcheting up of tensions with Iran, President Trump today responded to quotes by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who had warned that people who approach Iran with “the language of threats” would come to regret doing so.

Trump responded to the report by declaring that Rouhani “better be careful” about what he says. Trump has previously announced Iran to be “on notice,” and insisted he would not rule out military action against Iran in the future.

The Trump Administration began picking up anti-Iran rhetoric two weeks ago, following an Iranian test of a medium-range ballistic missile. US officials initially suggested the test might have been a violation of a UN resolution, though this ultimately was not the case.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to President Trump; sir, was this statement an attempt to get get the Iranian government to back of dropping the use of the US dollar in trade on 21 March?!?

Because if not, the timing of your escalation in your rhetoric against Iran....is utterly, and amazingly, lousy.

And just in case Sec Def Mattis hasn't clued you in, the reason I am making this observation is that should there be a US military attack against Iran, Russia is most likely to assist them militarily.

And right now, the US military does not have the weaponry; the troop strength; the money; or the manufacturing to ensure a successful outcome to a war against both Iran and Russia.

I would therefore like to politely suggest that you cool the rhetoric until such time as this situation can be remedied; otherwise, you may be signing a collective death sentence to our men and women in uniform by throwing them into military hostilities with which they may well be unable to cope immediately.

And if no one on your team has had the intestinal fortitude to mention this to you, I felt I compelled to do so.

The Russians and Chinese don't spend anywhere near as much on their weapons as does the US government, but they are getting far better "bang" for their weaponry bucks, quite literally.

The corporate heads of weapons manufacturing companies here in the US think it is perfectly fine to deliver their products so behind schedule as to be obsolete, upon field delivery; this equipment rarely functions as promised (just think the debacle which is the F-35); and cost overruns into the millions of dollars are simply normal.

This, sir, has to change, and quickly.

As a Christian pacifist activist, who never advocates violence, I would much rather my government achieve its geopolitical goals by hard-won, good-faith, ethical negotiations.

But if a decision is made by this government to wage war, our men and women in uniform deserve, and must have, the best possible weapons equipment, delivered on-time, completely functional, and done without massive cost over-runs, which US taxpayers have to pay.

Iran pledges missile retaliation to 'confront' US warning 'DARK DAYS' ahead for Trump

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei sneered at Trump's threats over Iran's nuclear programme after the Middle Eastern power fired a missile last week.

Trump had warned Iran was "on notice" and "playing with fire" but Tehran is continuing its missile drills – firing another weapon on Sunday.

Tehran has now warned the US and Iran have "dark days ahead" as thousands flooded the streets with banners reading "Down with USA".

Earlier this week Khamenei struck back after a meeting with his military leaders and promised the nation is planning to respond to mark today's anniversary of the Iran's revolution in 1979.

Since then Trump's administration has threatened to blacklist Iran's elite military force the Revolutionary Guard as terrorists as tensions continue to brew.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to President "The Art of the Deal" Trump: I hope to heck that you've got Vlad (the non-impaler) Putin's direct cell number on speed-dial right now.

And I say that because, if you ever needed a partner in de-escalating this situation with Iran, through quiet, back-channel negotiations, it is right the darned heck now!!

Any outright attack against Iran will almost inevitably get Russia involved, militarily, on Iran 's side, and the US military does not have the weaponry, the money, the manufacturing, or the troop strength to insure a positive outcome to a war against Russia right now.

Iran Hawks Take the White House

The United States is adding new sanctions on Iran over that country’s alleged misdeeds, and nearly all of those allegations are either out-and-out lies or half-truths. It has a familiar ring to it, as demonizing Tehran has been rather more the norm than not since 1979, a phenomenon that has included fabricated claims that the Iranians killed American soldiers after the U.S.’s armed interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq. This time around, the administration focused on the perfectly legal Iranian test of a non-nuclear-capable, medium-range ballistic missile and the reported attack on what was initially claimed to be a U.S. warship by allegedly Iranian-backed Yemeni Houthi fighters. The ship was later revealed to be a Saudi frigate.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reality that such a move would be one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid things this administration could do, unfortunately, is utterly no guarantee that they will not do it.

Because such a military action against Iran would almost certainly guarantee that Russia would come in on the side of Iran against the US.

And at this moment in its history, the US military doesn't have the weaponry; the money; the troop strength; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war against Russia.

And the weaponry issue is a big one. Both Russia and China spend far less on their weaponry, but within the last decade, have been coming up with amazing feats of weaponry engineering.

Unfortunately, here in the US, the collective weapons executive culture believes it is perfectly fine to create weapons which are obsolete upon field delivery; that do not operate as advertised; and cost wildly over original budget estimates.

That has to change, and quickly.

But I'm a bit lost on what Flynn is characterising as "...Iran’s hostile and belligerent actions toward the United States and the world community."

What, precisely, has Iran done, please, to inflame the General's ire?!?

Is it that the standard of living has improved over 67% since the ousting of the US puppet, the Shah or Iran?

36 years after the revolution, where is Iran now?

Is it perchance that Iran's science and engineering students are overwhelmingly female?

How did Iran manage to get 70% of its engineering and science graduates to be women?

Is it that its health care is rated the 30th most efficient health care systems in the world?!?

Health Care in Iran

Is it that Iran has informed the US that it will drop the dollar in its oil trade as of the 21st of next month?!?

Iran will officially ditch the dollar as of 21 March, 2017

BINGO!!!

I don't know what odds the Vegas bookies are taking on their being some kind of an "incident/false flag" happening before that date, as the excuse for attacking Iran; but if I were a betting woman, I would not bet against it.

Trump Plays Cat and Mouse with Iran

Iran needs to shrug off the provocations, and keep up their end of the deal. That’s it; just hang tight and stay cool.

Why is the Trump administration threatening Iran?

On February 1, National Security Adviser Michael Flynn announced that the administration was “putting Iran on notice” after it tested a ballistic missile which the US sees as a violation of Iran’s treaty obligations. Flynn’s frigid tone made it clear that the administration is considering the use of military force. But why?

We Thank Trump for Exposing the Reality of the U.S – Ayatollah Khamenei

In its 200 years of expansionism, the US has paused too seldom and too briefly to consider the culture, history, lives and dignity of other lands.

In his February 7th speech, Leader Khamenei has wisely rejected the “threats” already issuing from the Trump Administration. Leader Khamenei stressed a “dignified” response to threats and bullying. I wholeheartedly applaud the emphasis on “dignity” and respect—respect for treaties between democratic governments, respect for the cultures and lives of citizens of this fragile, shrinking planet.

How Trump Can Defeat ISIS

Attacking Iran will not win the war on terror. Working with Russia and Syria might.

Last week, the Trump administration began ratcheting up hostilities with Iran, nominally in response to a ballistic missile test in late January. NPR (2/2/17) dutifully reported Trump’s announcement of new sanctions on Iran, framing the issue as the Trump White House responding to an Iranian “provocation” in regards to Iran’s agreement with the UN, rather than simply executing long-held plans. A follow-up explainer by international correspondent Peter Kenyon (2/3/17) would muddy the waters further and use an incredibly dodgy source to do so.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION APPARENTLY HEADING FOR WAR AS IRAN DUMPS U.S. DOLLAR

While many were hoping against all odds that a Trump administration would live up to some of its campaign rhetoric and begin to back away from imperialistic foreign adventures, it seems those hopes are being dashed by the day as Trump and his team are giving every indication that they are moving toward war with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to President Trump:

Mr. President, I am begging you to listen to me; such a war is apt to go very badly for the US government and its allies.

It appears, and I am very concerned if this in fact is true, that your Administration has taken a page from the following Brookings Institute report:

WHICH PATH TO PERSIA?

In it, the suggestion is made to give Iran a real "sweetheart deal" (as happened with the P5+1 and President Obama), then make the Iranian government look "ungrateful" for the deal they have been given, as a pretext for war against it.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, and even in one today, should the US attack Iran, the Iranian government will most likely get extensive military aid from Russia.

And the US military does not have the weaponry; the money; the manufacturing; or the troop strength to insure a successful outcome to war against Russia and/or China.

President Trump, please don't get fooled by the people who want this war, many times because they will profit economically from such a war. Please remember that it is only the President who has to put his affairs into a blind trust, upon accepting the position of President; the rest of any cabinet members can make a killing (both literally and figuratively) by investing in the military/industrial complex.

Banks also love wars, as all sides borrow - at huge interest rates - to keep the war machines going, and to rebuild afterward.

I am hoping and praying that this is simply a strategy to get the P5+1 deal renegotiated; otherwise, God help this country, lurching into what may well be an unwinnable war that never should have been fought in the first place.

US AND OTHER GLOBAL POWERS CONDUCT WAR GAMES 50 MILES OFF IRAN’S COAST

As U.S. tensions with Iran rose last week, 17 ships from the United States, United Kingdom, France, and Australia launched a major war game just 50 miles from the Iranian coast.
Smack dab in the middle of the gulf, the ships steamed together in wedge formation in the first iteration of the exercise dubbed “Unified Trident.”

HMS Ocean, a British amphibious assault ship carrying about 750 personnel, 150 of them Royal Marines, led the way.

About 500 yards behind was the French destroyer FS Forbin, and about 500 yards behind was the U.S. destroyer USS Mahan. Another 500 yards behind was the Australian destroyer HMAS Arunta. Each carried about 300 sailors.

Another destroyer, an Aegis cruiser, a supply ship, mine sweepers, patrol boats, and Coast Guard cutters made up the flanks.

The ships cast dark gray silhouettes against a light gray sky and a bluish-gray sea, which was fairly calm, though the winds started to pick up.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There are those in the deep state in the US who feverishly want war against Iran, and one can see that playing out on Fox this morning, where they are commenting that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei insulted President Trump yesterday by describing him as "The newcomer" (I wish I had a friend who speaks Farsi, who could tell me precisely what the guy said).

I would like to hope that President Trump will proceed with absolute caution regarding Iran.

Because a war against Iran will almost certainly involve Russia coming to its aid militarily. And I hope that President Trump clearly understands how completely, and woefully, unprepared the US military is to fight and win a war against Russia.

At this point in its history, the US military doesn't have the weaponry, the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to have a positive outcome even to a conventional war.

And the weaponry issue is huge. Many times, after equipment is delivered to our troops, it is delivered so late as to be obsolete; not performing as promised, and hideously over budget. The culture of American weapons manufacturers needs to change, and rapidly, if these issues are to be intelligently addressed.

But far ahead of any potential military hostilities I hope that the US, Russia, China, and Iran can negotiate their differences with morally clean, honest negotiations which will give all of these countries something significant to take home with them.

As a Christian pacifist activist, this is what I exhort the US government to do consistently.

And selfishly, Tehran is absolutely on my "bucket list" of places I would love to see, for the history; the art; the music; and the food, and to let the Iranian people know that Americans don't hate them, but that the US government can REALLY hold a grudge for the fact they ousted it's puppet, the Shah of Iran, in 1979.

Looks like Team Trump just made Iran blink

It looks like Iran just blinked in the face of tough talk — and new economic sanctions — from the Trump administration.

Fox News reports that new satellite imagery, verified by US officials, shows Iran has abruptly removed a new missile that was being prepared for launch as recently as Friday.

It was a long-range Safir missile — a class that Tehran last launched into space two years ago, and that uses the same components as those needed for an intercontinental ballistic missile.

Breaking: Ballistic missile strikes Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

According to emerging reports from Yemen, a surface-to-surface missile fired by the Yemeni Army has hit Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

The missile was launched on Sunday evening, and sources in Yemen have described the missile test as successful. It is unclear exactly what missile was used, and casualty figures, if any, are yet to be reported.

Saudi Arabia militarily intervened in the Yemeni Conflict in 2015, leading a coalition of almost 10 Middle Eastern countries. In October 2016, a Yemeni activist warned that Riyadh was the next target for a Yemeni missile attack.

Update 1: More information has emerged, suggesting that the missile was a variant of a Russian Scud, known as the “Borkan” surface-to-surface missile.

Update 2: Sources indicate that the missile struck a military base West of Riyadh, in Mazahimiyah.

Update 3: On social media, a Saudi attempts to cover-up the attack, saying that the sound of the explosion in Riyadh was an earthquake or meteor.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, the Yemen military appears to be blamed for this attack.

But who, in the Middle East, has some variation on the “Borkan” surface-to-surface missile?!"?

We need to be very, very careful about to whom we ascribe the blame in this attack.

The Houthi rebels are not precisely supported by people who have a lot of money to spend on this kind of technology, which means that most likely, Iran is going to be blamed for this attack.

Remember on Friday, when I mentioned on this blog, that something needed to happen, to "justify" the US military's further involvement in Yemen?!?

Unfortunately, that appeared to have just happened. Whether it was direct Israeli or American involvement here, in order to escalate the situation in Yemen, I do not know, but one thing I do intuit, is that something wicked this way comes, in terms of more intense US military action against Yemen.

I hope to heck I am mistaken, but given the intensity of the American "deep state" wish to regime change Tehran, I do not think that I am.

US Betrays Iran Deal as Predicted – Edges Closer to War

As the world remains mesmerized by the antics of US President Donald Trump, his national security adviser Michael Flynn brazenly linked Iran to Yemeni fighters who attacked a Saudi warship, as well as cited an Iranian missile test as grounds to reverse course on US rapprochement with Tehran, concluding that Iran was “put on notice.”

US corporate-financier funded think tank, the Brookings Institution, in a 2009 policy paper titled, “Which Path to Persia? Options for a New American Strategy Toward Iran” (.pdf) would lay out in detail various means of provoking war and regime change against Iran.

In it, Brookings explicitly revealed how a “superb offer” would be given to Iran, only to be intentionally revoked in a manner portraying Iran as ungrateful:

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to National Security Advisor Flynn; if the US goes forward with this war against Iran, what do you intend to do about Russia, which will almost inevitably go to Iran's aid?!?

Trump Favors Military Escalation: Washington’s War Threat Against Iran

It is just two weeks since President Donald Trump was sworn into office after delivering an inaugural address proclaiming his policy of “America First” and vowing to defend the United States against “the ravages of other countries.”

Any illusions that this policy spelled a turn away from the unending wars waged by the US over the past quarter of a century in favor of isolationism have been rapidly dispelled. Trump and his advisors have staged one bellicose provocation after another in a sharp escalation of the longstanding militarist policy of American imperialism.

Webmaster's Commentary:

An honest, and urgent, memo to President Trump; sir, if in fact you choose to go to war against Iran, goaded by Israel's Netanyahu, that it is "the right thing to do", you will be leading the American people, who you claim to "love and fight for" into the absolute, and abominable, hell of a war the US military might not be able to win.

And it is completely conceivable that war against Iran will ultimately lead to a war with Russia.

Please understand I have the utmost respect for every single man and woman in uniform; but our military has been badly shortchanged by short-sighted governmental policies, over decades, which has left them without the troop strength; the money; the manufacturing; or the weaponry to achieve a successful outcome of a conventional war with Russia.

The Russians spend far less on military equipment than does the US military, but are getting way more "bang" for their weaponry buck than does the US military.

The culture of US weapons manufactures makes their CEOs believe that it is perfectly fine to deliver weapons late, to the point of being obsolete; not functioning anywhere NEAR specs (take a look at the debacle which has been the F-35, for a marvelous case in point), and bill the government an obscene amount of cost-overruns for obsolete, non-functioning equipment, because... that's the way it's always been.

Mr. President if we are to go to war with ANYONE, all these issues have to be addressed intelligently and rationally, and with consequences for those CEOS who slide back to business as usual.

Please have some long talks with Sec-Def Mattis on this, to get his take on American readiness for war, at every level of this government's and military's preparedness.

Were I a betting woman, my bet would be that Sec-Def Mattis will counsel restraint against any military action against Iran.

Defiant Iran Slams Trump: We Won't Yield To "Useless" Threats, Will Conduct More Ballistic Missile Tests

With the US officially warning Iran twice over the past 24 hours in the harshest possible terms yet, when first national security advisor Michael Flynn, and then this morning Trump himself, said Iran has been "put on notice" for "destabilizing activity" after it fired a ballistic missile in defiance of UN resolutions, on Thursday a top adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was quoted by Reuters as saying the country would not yield to "useless" U.S. threats from "an inexperienced person" over its ballistic missile program.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Down the page you will see Iran's Foreign Minister say that the US is offering Iran "a few dollars" for Iran to leave its people unprotected from the next Saddam. Iran was already threatening to drop the US dollar over Trump's 90-day travel ban. The sanctions may push them over the line.

According to four-star General Wesley Clark, shortly after the attacks of 9/11, the Pentagon adopted a plan to topple the governments of seven countries; Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran.

According to Reuters, Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order that would include a temporary refugee ban and a suspension of visas for citizens of Syria and six other Middle Eastern and African countries.

The list is expected to include Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. If those countries are starting to sound familiar, there’s a reason for that.

According to four-star General Wesley Clark, shortly after the attacks of 9/11, the Pentagon adopted a plan to topple the governments of seven countries; Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The more I look at the first actions of the Trump presidency, the more I am terrifyingly convinced that the real winner of last November's election was the power-hungry, money mad, and deeply psychotic, American Deep State.

The hard, inescapable reality here is that the American Deep State is all about expropriating resources from countries to which it has no moral right; insuring those countries are run by US/Western-centric governments; and insuring that those resources are only sold for the US dollar.

The blood and money spent is of no consequence to those people running the American deep state, as long as their financial/geopolitical objectives are obtained.

And those American military killed or maimed for life in the process of achieving their financial goals?!? Merely collateral damage, for the sake of private corporate profit.

Of course, politicians cannot possibly say that to grieving families and friends of those killed or maimed; they are assured with such nostrums as "They died to protect this country and the American way of life."

No; these military died and were maimed for life to protect and enrich private corporate profit.

That is simply the bottom line here.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ARMING KURDISH FANATICS, TERRORISTS; U.S. AND RUSSIA FLOAT KURDISH AUTONOMY IN SYRIA

While Trump’s Syria plan has been incredibly vague up until this point, we are now seeing the position of the Trump administration coming into view. While, at this point, it might not be as bad as what was called for under Obama and Clinton, the new approach to Syria is concerning to say the least.

This is because mainstream news reports have revealed that the Trump administration is going ahead with a plan to arm Kurdish militants in Syria who are battling the Islamic State. Of course, these Kurdish fanatics are interesting in only one thing – independence and the creation of their own Kurdish state that eventually crosses the border of Syria, Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. They are not interested so much in fighting terror since they have allied themselves with terrorists to achieve their own goals.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am having a palm to forehead moment here, at velocity.

Are we looking at more "fake news" here, to attempt to sell US citizenry on the narrative that the US needs to be more thoroughly involved in a military solution to the many problems in the Middle East, rather than viable political solutions?!?

And I would politely like to remind President Trump, that doing the same thing, in precisely the same way, over and over, yet expecting a different outcome, is one of the most classical definitions of insanity.

IF in fact these reports are true, it appears that both the Russian and US governments are hell-bent in balkanizing the Middle East, and bending it to their liking, and have made the decision that an independent Kurdistan will horrifically weaken the political ambitions of Syria; Turkey; Iran; and Iraq.

But what will be the cost in blood and money to make such a military adventure a "success"?!? And how long are the US and Russia committed to pursuing this dangerous game of regime change?!?

Were I a bookie in Vegas, I really would not bet against the resurrection of the draft in this United States right now, possibly coming at the end of President Trump's first year in office.

Lies Promote Trump's Economic War Against Iran

On Sunday, January 29th, the Iranian military apparently tested a ballistic missile. This was not the first test since the signing of the nuclear agreement, but it is one that received a lot of attention by the Trump administration. I think it's important to point out, as I am no expert in these matters, but apparently a ballistic missile is just a missile that goes really high and then uses gravity to come and hit a target. There is nothing inherent in a ballistic missile that makes it part of a nuclear program. Conventional warheads are delivered by ballistic missiles. In fact, most ballistic missiles that are mid-range, and that's what this one was, are used for conventional purposes, not for nuclear purposes. This is not an intercontinental ballistic missile that goes up into the upper atmosphere and usually is associated with a nuclear weapons program. So I think it's an important distinction to make.

THE COMING CLASH WITH IRAN

Iran-backed Houthi rebels, said Flynn, attacked a Saudi warship, and Tehran tested a missile, undermining “security, prosperity and stability throughout the Middle East,” placing “American lives at risk.”

But how so?

The Saudis have been bombing the Houthi rebels and ravaging their country, Yemen, for two years. Are the Saudis entitled to immunity from retaliation in wars they start?

Where is the evidence Iran had a role in the Red Sea attack on the Saudi ship? And why would President Trump make this war his war?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Or is Trump simply gaming the Congress, telling them what they want to hear, until he gets all his confirmations?

US Press Secretary Sean Spicer Falsely Accuses Iran Of Attacking U.S. Navy Vessel, An Act Of War – Video

The White House press corps wanted to know what being put “on notice” entailed, and Spicer responded by claiming that Iran’s government took actions against a U.S. naval vessel, which would be an act of war. “I think General Flynn was really clear yesterday that Iran has violated the Joint Resolution, that Iran’s additional hostile actions that it took against our Navy vessel are ones that we are very clear are not going to sit by and take,” he said. “I think that we will have further updates for you on those additional actions.”

Major Garrett of CBS News quietly corrected him, saying “a Saudi vessel,” and Spicer then responded almost inaudibly: “Sorry, thank you, yes a Saudi vessel. Yes, that’s right.” He did not in any way address his false claim that it was an Iranian attack, however.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Pre-Emptive Attack Iran Bill Active in US House

You will often see potentially important pieces of legislation languish in the US House. A bill will remain active, meaning that it can be brought to the Floor at any time. But it flies just under the radar. Other times the language floats around Washington for years until a "crisis" necessitates its activation and passage. As we know well, what eventually became the PATRIOT Act -- one of the single greatest attacks on civil liberties in US history -- started out and spent much of its early life as a sugar-plumb fairy dancing in neocon fantasies. Then came 9/11 and it was dusted off and imposed on the American people. And the United States has never been -- and may never be -- the same. Either way, these measures are important if seldom seen.

Pre-Emptive Attack Iran Bill Active in US House

So it may well be with H.J.Res. 10, introduced in the House just as the new Congress began at the beginning of this month. The title of the bill tells the tale: a bill “To authorize the use of the United States Armed Forces to achieve the goal of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.” This legislation, introduced by Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL), is as it appears: an authorization for the President to use military force against Iran. But it is much worse than that.

Why so? Because it specifically authorizes the president to launch a pre-emptive war on Iran at any time of his choosing and without any further Congressional oversight or input. The operative sentence in the resolution reads, “The President is authorized to use the Armed Forces of the United States as the President determines necessary and appropriate in order to achieve the goal of preventingIran from obtaining nuclear weapons.”

Media Blackout: Obama administration created the list of countries covered by Trump's 'Muslim ban'

What? So there was a Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 two years before Trump? There was a kind of "Muslim ban" before the Muslim ban? But almost no one critiqued it in 2015 because it was Obama's administration overseeing it.

So for more than a year it has been US policy to discriminate against, target and even begin to ban people from the seven countries that Trump is accused of banning immigrants and visitors from. CNN even hinted at this by noting "those countries were named in a 2016 law concerning immigration visas as 'countries of concern.'" But why didn't CNN note that the seven countries were not named and that in fact they are only on the list because of Obama's policy?

Iran was once a great power, and though invaded by Greeks, Arabs, Turks, and Mongols and exploited by imperialist powers in the modern era, it has continued to assert its national identity and its people have developed a special sensitivity to interference with its sovereign rights. While professing idealistic principles in international relations, European powers ignored these principles in their violations of Iran’s sovereign rights, which in at least one case led to human suffering on par with the most tragic events of the twentieth century.

Iran becomes a major problem

The talks between Russia, Turkey and Iran started in the Kazakh capital of Astana on January 23. The talks are of paramount importance for Russia, because they could become the first platform for establishing a dialogue with the new US administration... "We did not invite the Americans, and we are opposed to their presence there," Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said. Thus, Iran has publicly rejected the initiative of its allies, with whom he fights, as it seems, for peace and stability in the war-torn Syria. The Iranians have made it clear to Moscow that they intend to maximize the implementation of Russia's strategy in Syria and then in the entire Middle East. Iran may create a variety of problems for Russia, including those associated with the resumption of Russian-US cooperation on Syria. It appears that Iran wants Russia to choose between Iran and Turkey. Iran assumes that neither Russia nor Turkey will be able to achieve any practical results in Syria without Iran.

China To Pour $3 Billion in Iran’s Refining Capacity

China will invest US$3 billion in the upgrade of Iran’s oil refining facilities, Iranian media reported, with the bulk of the investment going into the Abadan refinery.

According to Deputy Oil Minister Abbas Kazemi, China has already “opened the financing” for the refinery’s upgrade. Iran’s oil and gas infrastructure has suffered the results of years of neglect because of insufficient maintenance funds during the sanction years as well as access to new technology and equipment.

Last week China’s statistical bureau reported that the country’s crude oil imports had increased to 64.4 percent of domestic demand and this is expected to continue, with imports rising by a total 17 percent in the period 2015-2020, with domestic output falling by 7 percent in the period, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

IRAN: At least 75 people killed after an iconic high-rise building collapses

The 17-story tower was built in the early 1960s by Iranian-Jewish businessman Habib Elghanian and named after his plastics manufacturing company. It was the tallest building in the city at the time of its construction.

Elghanian was tried on charges that included espionage and executed in the months after the 1979 Islamic Revolution that brought the current ruling system to power — a move that prompted many members of the country's longstanding Jewish community to flee.

The tower is attached to a multistory shopping mall featuring a sky-lit atrium and a series of turquoise-colored fountains. It wasn't immediately clear whether the mall was damaged.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Defenders of the orthodox 9-11 story are pointing to this building collapse as proof that WTC-7 could have been brought down by fire, but there are some mitigating circumstances. This building was fifty years old and not built to the same standards of construction as WTC-7, which was built to house government offices. Second, there are reports than while the building was originally built as a residential unit, many of the units had been converted for storage of inventory for the adjacent mall and were carrying weight loads exceeding what the building was originally designed to carry.

UPDATE: Despite references to "steel framed" building it turns out that this building was framed with reinforced concrete.
