Iran – The Story behind the Story

Allowing a country like Iran destroying the US hegemon’s power base by taking a sovereign decision to abandon the dollar for oil and gas trading – no way.

It would have meant the end of the dollar as the world’s chief reserve currency, and giving up the instrument of coercing the world into accepting Washington’s dictate, the tool that serves to dish out sanctions left and right – no way!

Washington’s seemingly blind and preposterous arrogance drives the closest allies into the ‘adversary’s camp. The FED (Federal Reserve Bank) announced on 2 April 2015 that it fined the German Commerz bank with 1.7 billion US dollars for dealing with Cuba, Sudan and Iran – Washington sanctioned countries.

When even the staunchest stooges of empire seek alliances in the East, the writing is on the wall, that the economic winds are shifting, that a tectonic sea-change is in the offing and that the Iran nuclear deal, one way or another, doesn’t really matter in the foreseeable future.

Israel attacked America on 9-11-01! – Shout it from the rooftops (Part II)

It’s time for those Americans who assisted the Israelis with 9-11-01 and who covered it up to be indicted, arrested, tried and convicted for their various roles in the attack on America on 9-11-01 by Israel and its coverup.

This of course means that both of the massive American invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan were based on the big lies, false-narratives and propaganda dispensed to the American masses by the Controlled Major Mass Media (CMMM) and were completely illegal under international law and thereby constitute abject war crimes for which those.

Numerous former top USG Officials and Members of Congress will someday soon be made accountable for committing espionage against America related to 9-11-01, its coverup and for all their war crimes based on lying about it and falsely blaming Islamics in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Vice: The United States Should Stop Fighting, They Cannot Win

Since Washington has started military campaigns just for the sake of demonstrating its own power, the American army has lost the ability to win, says Vice.
After the victory over Nazi Germany a major military campaign ended for well-trained and armed United States army rather pitiable, writes American Journal of Vice.

Perpetual war is the only valid explanation

Daily Pickings previously referenced Israel's Yinon plan for creating division and conflict across the Middle East to ensure Israel's supremacy. Israeli citizens, holding dual (Israel/US) nationality, are driving policy in Washington and the Pentagon.

The Pentagon Plan to ‘Divide and Rule’ the Muslim World by Nafeez Ahmed
Yemen is the latest casualty of a neoconservative strategy commissioned by the US Army to ‘capitalise on Sunni-Shia conflict’ in the Middle East - the goal is nothing short of ‘Western dominance’

The war on Yemen appears to have been choreographed, by encouraging the Houthis to oust the former regime, with the express intention of creating conflict. It is a pattern which repeats time and time again, most recently with the creation and support of Islamic State (IS, ISIL, ISIS) by Israel, US and their allies including Saudi Arabia. The outcome will, yet again, be chaos and mayhem.

Unworthy victims: Western wars have killed four million Muslims since 1990

Landmark research proves that the US-led ‘war on terror’ has killed as many as 2 million people, but this is a fraction of Western responsibility for deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last two decades.

Authentic Journalism that Challenges Empire and Its Centers of Power

Exposing Lies of the Empire is a monumental work.

Some years back, I was approached to come up with a story that I’d really like to cover. There were many, but right away I was drawn to a story whose angle was completely marginalized in any media I had checked. I was interested to go to Zimbabwe and get a genuine impression from Zimbabweans of how they view the direction of their country under the government of Robert Mugabe. How they viewed the redistribution of land within the country.

In the case of theft, when the stolen property is recovered, the usually accepted, and rightful, custom is that the property be returned to its rightful owner(s).

Top Donor to Clinton Foundation (jewish) Oligarch in Ukraine

Follow the Money

Between 2009 and 2013, including when Mrs. Clinton was secretary of state, the Clinton Foundation received at least $8.6 million from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, based in Kiev, Ukraine.

In 2008, Mr. Pinchuk made a five-year, $29 million commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative, a wing of the foundation that coordinates charitable projects and funding for them but doesn’t handle the money. The pledge was to fund a program to train future Ukrainian leaders and professionals “to modernize Ukraine,” according to the Clinton Foundation.

It said that if Mr. Pinchuk was lobbying the State Department about Ukraine, “this cannot be seen as anything but a good thing.”

Oh certainly, all you have to do is take a brief look at Ukraine to see what a wonderful thing it has been.

RAP NEWS 24: ISRAEL & PALESTINE

“America’s last taboo” Edward Said.

Decades of failed peace talks have led nowhere; but do not lose hope just yet. Join Robert Foster as he attempts to host the first ever Middle East Peace Raps, using rhyme and reason to bring together Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu, and a representative of Hamas. The picture would not be complete however, without a discussion of “America’s last taboo” (as Edward Said once referred to it): the USA’s role as Israel’s best – and only – buddy in the world (Ok, together with Australia). Featuring special cameos from prominent American Jewish scholar, Dr. Norman Finkelstein, and Palestinian rap legends, DAM, this is an episode for the ages. Join us as we bravely (or perhaps stupidly) take on one of the most bitter, divisive and controversial conflicts of our times: Israel & Palestine.

Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich: Iran Nuclear Deal Differences

U.S and Tehran disagree over Sanctions lift.

Tehran accuses the U.S. of spinning the nuclear deal.

Iran was never in violation of the NPT.

Most importantly, we must think about (upholding) the International treaties.

International treaties are being held hostage by the west.

There has been a lot of interference inside Iran by Washington. The nuclear issue is just an excuse to undermine the Islamic Republic and has very little to do with anything else.

Russia is opposed to snap back inspections and phased out sanctions.

Russia is a UN Security Council member and is present in the negotiations.

Devil is in Western Interpretation of Iran Nuclear Deal

A closer look at the details of the so-called framework accord to emerge from Lausanne shows that Iran falls short on both counts of sanctions removal and nuclear rights.

After investing so much political capital in achieving a nuclear deal, it is understandable that all sides of the stand-off would claim the Lausanne accord arrived at this week to be an “achievement”.

However, a closer look at the details of the so-called framework accord to emerge from Lausanne shows that Iran falls short on both counts of sanctions removal and nuclear rights.

Imperialist fantasies: UK policy and the bloody legacy of Iraq

For better or worse, Iraq will always be seen as Tony Blair's war – or rather, as George Bush junior finishing the job his father started and for which Blair willingly supplied British arms, troops and money (all £8.4 billion of it). The Labour Party is still on some level labouring under the shadow of the Iraq war, which may partially explain Ed Miliband's blocking of all military intervention in Syria (though the Labour leader did support the NATO-led strategy to remove Gaddafi in Libya and, more recently, has backed limited airstrikes on ISIS targets in Iraq).

Yemen – the Big Picture

As usual, western media are deliberately confusing in communicating on the latest Mid-East conflict which eventually led to the recent atrocious bombing of Yemen by the US-directed Saudi alliance, including Qatar and other Gulf monarchies. They are proxies, to be sure, for their Washington masters. My heart is bleeding for Yemen, a country of warm and generous people I got to know well, working with them in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Yemen, like Ukraine, is just another square on the geopolitical chess board which the exceptional nation aims to dominate.

It is certainly true, where ever the US and its NATO cronies put their heavy boots, they create lasting misery and chaos

Raimondo: The Iran Deal

It’s a good one – but can it survive the US Congress?

Israel has been threatening to attack Iran unilaterally for years, including during these negotiations, and they are not above launching a provocation – one that will ignite a conflict that would envelope the entire Middle East and much of the world.

As I said in my last column, the US Congress is the catch, the fly in the ointment that could nix this deal and lead us down the path to another war in the Middle East. Nothing has been signed. What we have is a framework, one that will lead to a fuller agreement in June – if Congress doesn’t step in and stop it.

The Global siege on Israel: a report from the World Social Forum

The closing of this multi-billion-dollar company can be one of the greatest BDS victories yet.

In June, 2010, when Israeli forces attacked unarmed aid ships of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, killing ten passengers (including one who died this year from injuries), dockworkers around the world refused to unload or load Israeli ships or cargo.

Based on the results in the US, we believe that if ten ports worldwide are closed to Zim, the company’s losses may cause it to close its doors. If Zim and the state of Israel are worried that this movement may become infectious, we can all be proud to spread the virus.

Shattered — Nothing is Right in the Middle East

The West worked very hard to turn the Middle East into what it is now. It took centuries to transfigure this culturally deep and great part of the world into the horror show. But it is done!

There is nothing, absolutely nothing right in the Middle East these days. There seems to be no hope left, and no fervor. All that was pure was dragged through filth. All that was great here was stolen or smashed by the outsiders. Enthusiasm had been ridiculed, then drowned, or burned to ashes, or shattered by tanks and missiles.

Asked by Veteran to Apologize for Horrors of Iraq War, Karl Rove Says No

Karl Rove may be a lot of things, but being sorry for the 2003 invasion of Iraq is not one of them.

A 32-year-old Iraq war veteran confronted Rove at the University of Connecticut this week, calling on the former senior advisor to President George W. Bush to apologize for the horrors of that war and its lingering effects both at home and abroad.

Apr 03 11:31

Karl Rove tells Iraq veteran: ‘Sorry for what you went through,’ but I won’t apologize for the war

An Iraq war veteran confronted former White House adviser Karl Rove during a speaking engagement on Tuesday and demanded he apologize for the war, the Hartford Courant reported.

“I have taken responsibility for my actions and dealt with my demons while advocating for a peaceful resolution of a war that was an act of aggression with no clear goal,” said the former soldier, who identified himself as Ryan Henowitz. “Can you take responsibility and apologize for your decision in sending a generation to lose their humanity and deal with the horrors of war, which you have never had the courage to face? Will you apologize to the millions of fathers and mothers who lost their children on both sides of this useless war?”

Webmaster's Commentary:

What an incredible piece of work this man is, absolutely, and contemptuously refusing to take responsibility for being one of the architects of a war which was, ultimately, all about Iraq's oil, and selling it only in US dollars!!

He and the rest of that unholy, sociopathic quintet, Bush, Rusmfeld, Rice, Cheney, should be shunned for the rest of their miserable lives for lying us into a war which absolutely shattered Iraq, and devolved into a horrific civil war between religious factions, which continues to this day.

But of course, their good buddies, companies like Haliburton, etc., made out like bandits, charging the US government exorbitant amounts of money for shoddy work that many times dissolved shortly after it had been built, and creating burn pits which they assured soldiers attending those pits that there were no safety issues. Many of these men and women are now in the grip of severe, life threatening health issues, and yet the US military will not acknowledge that the problems exist.

But hey, Turdblossom; (that isn't my creation; that was George Bush's nickname for him!!) Not one of the companies making huge war bucks off the Iraq war gave a damn about how many people got killed or maimed for life, as long as the money poured in.

You may have had a conscience at one point, but I would suggest you had it surgically removed, when you realized what an obstacle it is to making money.

And by the way, that last sentence quoted above is a complete and outright lie: " We should be proud of what we were able to do in Iraq and we should be sorry that we left them alone, because when we left them, things deteriorated.”

Does Rove think, for one moment, that Americans have forgotten Muktada Al Sadr, the Shiite Iranian cleric, who founded the Mahdi Army, and threatened that if all Americans were not out of Iraq by December 31, 2011, all American military and civilian contractors would be fair game?!?

It is apparent that the US military took this guy, and his military resources , at their word, and left Iraq.

Yemen Echoes of 1930s Aggression and Descent into Barbarism

The latest Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen, overseen by Washington, has been condemned by Iran, Russia and China.

Both the Arab League and the United Nations have fully transformed themselves into the ill-fated League of Nations that more than 70 years ago disgraced itself into oblivion when it failed to condemn foreign aggressions that eventually led to the cataclysm of World War Two.

As delegates gathered in Egypt’s resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh for the Arab League last weekend, nearly half of its member states were at the same time openly engaged in an aerial blitz on one of the League’s weakest countries – Yemen.

In Yemen, and Middle East, U.S. Needs to Learn When to Quit

Author’s note: The New York Times’ Room For Debate poses the question “Is Yemen America’s fight?” and asks whether the United States should be involved in regional efforts to fight the Houthis in Yemen.

Here’s my short essay on why the US has no business being there – and why Washington needs to rein in the Saudis before they embroil us all in an even bigger mess.

At the rate the Saudis are escalating, any full-on war in Yemen will cripple the entire Arabian Peninsula, and that would be a disaster for all key U.S. policy interests in the region.

Dimitry Orlov: The USA's License to Kill

....Americans like their weapons, and they like handing them out as a show of support. But more often than not these weapons end up in the wrong hands: the ones they gave to Iraq are now in the hands of ISIS; the ones they gave to the Ukrainian nationalists have been sold to the Syrian government; the ones they gave to the government in Yemen is now in the hands of the Houthis who recently overthrew it. And so the efficacy of lavish military spending has dwindled too. At some point it may become more efficient to modify the US Treasury printing presses to blast bundles of US dollars in the general direction of the enemy.

With the strategy of “destroying in order to create” no longer viable, but with the blind ambition to still try to prevail everywhere in the world somehow still part of the political culture, all that remains is murder. The main tool of foreign policy becomes political assassination: be it Saddam Hussein, or Muammar Qaddafi, or Slobodan Miloševi?, or Osama bin Laden, or any number of lesser targets, the idea is to simply kill them.

Iraqi Militiamen Plan To Travel To Yemen To Battle U.S.-Backed Coalition

Iran-backed Shiite militiamen in Iraq say they're ready to take up arms in a country most of them have never been to: Yemen.

“We defeated ISIS in Syria, we’re defeating ISIS in Iraq, and we’ll defeat them in Yemen,” Abu Kumael, a volunteer fighter with the powerful Iran-supported Shiite militia known as the Peace Brigades, told The WorldPost Monday. “We’re not just talking. We’re physically ready to go and fight.”

In Iraq, the militias are working on the same side as U.S. forces against the self-declared Islamic State. But once the militiamen get to Yemen, they'll be fighting not for the U.S., but against the Americans -- which means that the U.S. will be battling the same forces, and in some cases the very same men, that ISIS is taking on in Iraq.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US government's invasions and occupations in this region are bearing bitter fruit all across the Middle East.

The deBaathification of Iraq was one of the most pig-headedly, ham-fistedly idiotic things the Bush administration decided to do, and led to a literal civil war between the Sunni-Shiite religious elements in this country.

It appears that neither of the last two administrations, collectively, had the intellectual capability of think a scenario through to its logical conclusion; in fact, that particular logic-disabled thinking seemed to be a prerequisite for employment with both administrations.

But there is one thing of which I am reasonably certain; the catastrophic failure of geopolitical imagination, which lead to the invasion and occupation of Iraq; the assassination of Qaddafi in Libya; the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan; and the propping up of a US-sponsored dictator in Yemen, Al-Hadi, nearly guarantees DC's need for more US boots on the ground in the Middle East to attempt to sop up the mess of blood and political movements not to the US government's liking.

Looking at how rapidly events are unfolding, it is only a matter of time. And were I a betting woman, I would not bet against the timing of this being very soon, before the onset of summer.

The battle for the Middle East's future begins in Yemen as Saudi Arabia jumps into the abyss

Half the Saudi army are Yemeni descent! No wonder they are surrendering in droves.

Saudi Arabia has jumped into the abyss.
Its air attacks on Yemen are a historic and potentially fatal blow to the Kingdom and to the Middle East.

The real “story” is more important. Perhaps half of the Saudi army is of Yemeni tribal origin. Saudi soldiers are intimately – through their own families – involved in Yemen, and the Yemen revolution is a stab in the guts of the Saudi royal family.

Israel through PNAC had told the US military to invade 7 countries for them

Paul Craig Roberts was Assistant Secretary for Policy in the Reagan Treasury Department. He could be called the conscience of the Reagan Republicans. The other day in a radio interview Roberts said America has become Murder Incorporated. America has spent trillions of dollars killing millions of Muslims for no rational reason.

You might remember the 7 nations General Wesley Clark said America was to invade beginning with Iraq in 2003. That list came from PNAC (Project for a New American Century) which originally received it from the Israelis. PNAC also received fake intelligence reports on Iraq’s non-existent Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) which they passed onto the White House through the Office for Special Plans in the Pentagon. The OSP was a group created by PNAC for the purpose of getting America to fight a war for Israel in Iraq to do regime change.

Saddam Hussein – The Trial You Will Never See

A very good documentary about how Saddam Hussein was actively supported by the United States and other Western powers to get sophisticated arms, intelligence and chemical weapons to fight Khomeini’s Iran, everyone’s bogeyman of the 1980s. Human Rights violations by Saddam Hussein were criminally ignored by the United States and others, as long as he fought Iran, and right until the run up to his invasion of Kuwait. The Roots of Netanyahu’s Electoral Victory: Colonial Expansion and Fascist Ideology

Netanyahu has established the fact that Israel and its people embrace a racist ideology and receive the endorsement of most Western leaders, and mass media and the unconditional support of its overseas fifth column.

There is no question that the majority of Israeli Jewish leaders and parties support Netanyahu’s racist pronouncements and ‘no-state’ solution and joined him in a coalition government. But the larger issue is the positive mass response to Netanyahu’s call to action. Nearly three quarters of the electorate turned out (73%) to elect him. Moreover, Netanyahu has been elected prime minister for four terms: between 1996-99 and more recently 2009-20.

What is more, the opposition has not differed from the Netanyahu coalition regime’s Judeo-centric policies and pronouncements. In other words, ‘racist’ ideology per se is not what drives the Israeli majority to repeatedly support Netanyahu.

A group of Iraqi popular forces known as Al-Hashad Al-Shabi shot down the US Army helicopter that was carrying weapons for the ISIL in the western parts of Al-Baqdadi region in Al-Anbar province on Thursday.

Bibi Wins with Racism and Revoked Promise

He won in large part by revoking his earlier pledge to support a Palestinian state, and by using last-hour racist warnings to bring out hard right voters.

Because Netanyahu’s Likud party won the largest number of seats (30) in the new Israeli parliament (120 total), he will play the major role in organizing the next government.

Even liberal Zionist Thomas Friedman had to acknowledge that Netanyahu won with “dirty” politics and the use of “dog-whistle” language. Friedman wrote in his New York Times column that “You cannot win that dirty and just walk away like nothing has happened”.

God works in mysterious ways, and sometimes causes scales to fall and opens the eyes of those who do not yet see.

ISIS Releases City ‘Kill List': Most Towns Included Make Sense to No One

Sorry to be so flippant, but is this the waiting list for DHS funding or…?

Most of these places we’ve never even heard of to be honest. Some make sense, like well known cities such as Seattle, Washington or Reno, Nevada or Colorado Military-Industrial Complex Springs, Colorado. Ft. Hood, Texas has a large military base. I could maybe even see Dearborn Heights, Michigan with its vast Muslim population…but…

New Braunfels, Texas? Really? Do the terrorists hate water parks and kolaches?

America and Iran 'taking part in joint military operations in Iraq'

The United States is taking part in joint military operations with Iran, admitting it is providing aerial surveillance over the current battle for Tikrit.

The assault on Isil-held Tikrit, Saddam Hussein’s home town in Iraq, has stalled in recent days after initial success.
Troops loyal to the Baghdad government, along with Iran-backed Shia militia and some Sunni tribesmen, have surrounded Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant fighters in Saddam’s old palace complex and one other part of the city, but have been unable to make further progress.

ISIL helps Israel conceal its historical origin

Find out why neither Egypt was the land of the Israelites’ Exodus nor Palestine their promised land.

“The Zionist paradigm is founded on the distorted story of the Israelites’ Exodus from Egypt and their persecution by the Assyrians and Captivity by Babylonians. But the truth is that the Israelites never set foot in Egypt or Palestine. Actually they never left Ancient Arabia and North Yemen, their origin land, before the Babylonian Captivity”

Blood Money: These Companies and People Make Billions of Dollars From War

Despite warnings of its existence and imminent expansion, the military-industrial complex (or military-industrial-congressional complex) remains in operation today. It is an iron triangle that comprises the policy and monetary relationships which exist between legislators, national armed forces, and the arms industry that supports them. These relationships include political contributions, political approval for military spending, lobbying to support bureaucracies, and oversight of the industry.

It is a major reason we are stuck in a perpetual war.

Canada to include Syria in bombing raids against ISIL

Canada will deepen its military mission in the Middle East with a one-year extension that will now allow air strikes against ISIL in both Iraq and Syria.

The new military plan was announced by Prime Minister Stephen Harper Tuesday morning in the House of Commons, where the government was to introduce a motion later in the day.

Declassified CIA Document Reveals Iraq War Had Zero Justification

The justification for going to war in Iraq thirteen years ago, was based on a 93-page classified document that allegedly contained “specific information” on former Iraqi leader President Saddam Hussein and the weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs he was apparently running.

Now that document has been declassified and it reveals that there was virtually zero justification for the war. The document reveals that there was “no operational tie between Saddam and al Qaeda” and no WMD programs.

Insane America Makes War on the World

The hollow-eyed inhabitants of the land of the free and the home of the brave now robotically sing a twisted tune that is not under any circumstances to be believed. The manic echo of its “war on terror” anthem reverberates down the trash strewn corridors of the insane asylum the United States of America has become, where independent thought is now a crime and blind allegiance to a fabricated history and an artificial reality is required for social acceptance in a nightmare world turned absolutely upside down.

The Debate: Bush and Blair War Crimes: Ken O'Keefe

In March 2003, the US and its allies invaded Iraq under the pretext of annihilating weapons of mass destruction Saddam Hussein had in his arsenals. George W. Bush and Tony Blair, the leaders of the US and Britain, spearheaded the invasion that removed Saddam, the former Iraqi dictator, from power, yet left the country in ruins and claimed more than a million Iraqi lives. In this edition of the Debate, we ask Ken O'Keefe, a peace activist and former US Marine from London, and Lee Kaplan, an investigative journalist from San Francisco to answer when those responsible for the war crimes will be held accountable.

CIA Director Mad That Iranian General Fights Against ISIL in Iraq

As many in the West call on regional actors to take a leading role in combating the influence of the self-proclaimed Islamic State, none have responded quite as efficiently as Iran. But CIA Director John Brennan worries that one Iranian general, lauded by Iraqis, poses a significant threat to US counterterrorism efforts.

Mainstream U.S. Writers Call for Supporting Al Qaeda and ISIS

Sure, America’s closest allies support ISIS.

And admittedly, the U.S. has repeatedly fumbled, so that arms got into Al Qaeda and ISIS’ hands. Here, here, here and here.

And poor U.S. policies have undoubtedly created more terrorists then they’ve neutralized.

And it’s true that the U.S. knowingly supported Al Qaeda in Libya in order to topple Gaddaffi. But that was on the QT.

But now – for the first time – mainstream flacks are publicly calling for the United States of America to support ISIS and Al Qaeda …

Defrocked US General Blames Iran for US Crimes in Iraq

Blaming others for its own crimes is longstanding US policy. Lunatic active duty, retired and defrocked Pentagon generals lie like their government counterparts.

US News Website Accuses Google of Censorship over Photos of Abu Ghraib, Dead Ukrainians

Non-interventionist news portal Antiwar.com has accused Google of using “authoritarian” tactics and being “an arm of the US State Dept.,” after it stopped providing adverts on several of its stories, which the tech giant says violate its policy.

The conflict erupted last Sunday, when the tech giant notified the website that its advertising service AdSense would be disabled, due to depictions of “violence” and “gore” next to its ads, in what Antiwar.com said was a “big hit” to its funding. As an example of the violations it listed a 2006 article containing photos of torture from Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq – which Antiwar.com says has been viewed over 2 million times – and urged the administrators to “check all other remaining sites in your account for compliance.”

Plane drops of ammunition helping to reinforce ISIS – reports

There have been unconfirmed reports from the Iranian news agency FARS that Britain and the US could be behind the ammunition drops. “A group of Iraqi popular forces known as Al-Hashad Al-Shabi shot down a US Army helicopter that was carrying weapons for the ISIL in the western parts of Al-Baqdadi region in Al-Anbar province” in late February, FARS claimed.

There also have been unconfirmed reports of US weapons and aid dropped from planes falling into IS hands. An undated video released by the unofficial IS mouthpiece “a3maq news” in October showed a jihadist displaying several boxes of munitions with English-language markings.

A US Judge Ordered Publish Photos Of Prisoner Abuse In Afghanistan And Iraq

Prisoners in Iraq.

US should make public the pictures showing abuse of detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan, as determined by a judge after a long legal battle over whether to allow the world to see possibly disturbing images of how the military treated their prisoners.

The verdict of the US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein given two months to the government, which spent a decade fighting to prevent publication, to decide whether to appeal before they can spread the images. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU, for its acronym in English) has long been trying to make public in order that the government take responsibility.

A Family Business of Perpetual War

Neoconservative pundit Robert Kagan and his wife, Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, run a remarkable family business: she has sparked a hot war in Ukraine and helped launch Cold War II with Russia – and he steps in to demand that Congress jack up military spending so America can meet these new security threats. This extraordinary husband-and-wife duo makes quite a one-two punch for the Military-Industrial Complex, an inside-outside team that creates the need for more military spending, applies political pressure to ensure higher appropriations, and watches as thankful weapons manufacturers lavish grants on like-minded hawkish Washington think tanks.

It's the Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq. Where's the Accountability?

There were many more encounters that revealed the Iraqis believed the US wanted to bomb because of Israel. Another vigil at the oil refinery had us giving our blood to the Red Crescent in an act to declare No Blood for Oil.

America’s Dead-End in the Middle East

When empires weaken, they don’t merely withdraw. Rather, they leave behind a trail of broken promises and confusion.

When columnist Thomas L. Friedman suggests the U.S. should arm ISIS – thus joining the Saudi-Israeli regional war on Iran and the Shiites – it seems time to question the sanity of U.S. opinion- and policy-makers. But that is where the muddled U.S. post-9/11 strategy has led, explains Daniel Lazare.

The Iron Law of Oligarchy Returns

The death of Danny Schechter, “the News Dissector,” at age 72 from cancer marks a sad moment for independent journalism. Schechter’s was a strong voice against the empty platitudes and blatant hypocrisies that have come to define modern American media and politics, as he explained in an article last year.

The word “Oligarchy” has finally come home. For years, it was a term only used in connection with those big bad and sleazy Mafioso-type businessmen in Russia. Russia had Oligarchs; we didn’t. That became a big difference between the official narrative of what separated our “land of the free and the home of the brave” from “them” in the post-Soviet period.

After 12 Years, CIA Releases Classified Document used to Justify Invasion of Iraq

Operation Rent Seeking How the war on terrorism became a business model.

The syndrome the Bush administration created in Iraq was what former Pentagon critic Chuck Spinney has called a “self-licking ice cream cone”: the measures to fight the war on terrorism guaranteed more terrorists, which in turn guaranteed the agencies more money to fight the war on terrorism. The same process was at work with respect to torture and drone strikes. It is a great business model for contractors and bureaucratic empire builders, but far less favorable as a national survival strategy.

Kiev Shifts Goalposts as Merkel Skews Wide

Unfortunately, the prognosis is that if Merkel cannot see the glaring truth of the situation by now... then there is not much hope of the chancellor ever coming to a realistic political position on Ukraine...And, grimly, that means the outlook for further conflict is not good.

Kiev President Petro Poroshenko unveiled a new dimension of international sanctions against Russia this week, while being royally entertained by German leaders in Berlin. The oligarch-turned-politician now wants the Western allies of the Kiev regime to boycott the 2018 World Cup Finals to be held in Russia.

Netanyahu’s Victory: Now What President Obama?

Netanyahu's outright rejection of a Palestinian state and his promise to go on building more and more illegal settlements leave Obama without any wriggle room.

“Love him (Netanyahu) or hate him, this is the face of Israel.” That’s how Uriel Heilman concluded an article for the JTA (Jewish Telegraph Agency) on Netanyahu’s election victory after noting that he had shown his true colours by declaring that there would be no Palestinian state while he is in charge. What President Obama now has to decide is whether or not he will allow Netanyahu to remain in charge of American policy for Israel-Palestine.

Netanyahu Unmasks Israel

With the facades gone, Americans must decide if they will embrace this apartheid system or not...

Desperate to win reelection, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stripped off Israel’s mask and exposed the ugliness that has deformed his country over the past several decades. He abandoned the subterfuge of a two-state solution, exposed the crass racism that underlies Israeli politics, and revealed Israel’s blatant control of the U.S. Congress.

For years, U.S. politicians have rejected allegations of Israeli racism and excused mistreatment of the Palestinians as a temporary necessity that would be fixed by a two-state solution. But Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has destroyed those arguments in his panic to keep his job, reports Robert Parry.

Delivery of US Weapons and Ammunition to ISIS: Iraqi Commander Wiretaps ISIS Communications with US Military

A commander of Iraq’s popular forces disclosed that wiretapping of ISIL’s communications has confirmed the reports that the US planes have been airdropping food and arms supplies for the Takfiri terrorists.

“The wiretapped ISIL communications by Iraqi popular forces have revealed that the US planes have been dropping weapons and foodstuff for the Takfiri terrorist group,” Commander of Iraq’s Ali Akbar Battalion told FNA on Wednesday.

He noted that tapping on ISIL disclosed the terrorist group’s regular contacts with the US army, and said,

“They exchanged sentences like if they would have a share of the ammunition dropped near (Spiker Military Base) or responses such as ‘you will also receive your share’.”

“The US forces by dropping weapons and ammunition for ISIL, specially in Yassreb, Al-Ramadi and near Spiker Base in Hay al-Qadessiya have provided a lot of help to the ISIL,” he added.

US Petraeus warns Iran is greatest danger facing Iraq, not ISIS

Former Head of NATO and the multinational forces in Afghanistan US General David Petraeus warned about the Iranian regime's threat to Iraq, French daily Le Figaro reported.

Petraeus described the activities of Qassem Suleimani, the head of the Iranian regime's Quds Force in Iraq, as "disturbing".

"Islamic State (ISIS) is not the greatest danger facing Iraq," Petraeus said. "It will be defeated sooner or later, and Iraq will preserve its territorial integrity. If the Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi and parliament manage to reassure Sunnis, give them reasons to support the new Iraq, then these will help them get rid of ISIS."

‘Blair’s war on Iraq radicalized young Muslims in UK’ says John Prescott

Throwing Tony Blair under the bus this week (see full story below) may bolster Prescott’s own legacy somewhat, but the legacy of Iraq will still continue its eternal downward spiral.

In 2013, he granted an exclusive interview with RT where he submitted a full mea culpa with regards to his own role in the 2003 bombing, invasion and occupation of Iraq:

“Saddam was an evil man, there’s no doubt about that, but we’re not the believer in regime change. You can’t just go into another country and decide: ‘I don’t like its leader’”, he said.

How The CIA Funds Terrorism In Plain Sight

The CIA will claim that this is simply an unintended consequence, but is that really the case? You decide.

Back in 2010, Afghan officials came to an agreement to free one of their diplomats that had been captured and was being held hostage by al Qaeda. The deal involved the exchange of the diplomat for $5 million.

Afghan officials were able to make use of covert funds, which were quite literally bags of cash, the CIA was delivering directly to the Presidential Palace in Kabul, in their attempt to seek and maintain influence. $1 Million worth of this covert cash was siphoned off to the ransom fund. The remaining $4 million was ‘provided from other countries’.

With Saudi Arabia funding al Qaeda in Yemen, it is possible their ‘terrorism funds’ were tapped into to make up the deficit?

Plane drops of ammunition helping to reinforce ISIS – reports

The Islamic State is getting outside help, with plane drops providing ammunition for the terrorist organization, according to an RT Arabic report. Iraqi government soldiers also say this is a recurring theme and the group is as strong as ever.
