Spanish City Oviedo Rescinds Invitation to Israeli Orchestra, Ballet Amid Support Surge for BDS

The Spanish city of Oviedo disinvited an Israeli orchestra and ballet group arguing “Israeli organizations are not wanted” in its premises in yet another victory for the pro-Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Presentations by the orchestra and ballet group were scheduled for this autumn, in the city’s cultural program, but Monday an Israeli news site reported the cancellation over political reasons.

Last week, the city of Valencia approved a motion proposed by progressive party Podemos, to declare itself as an “Israeli apartheid-free zone,” becoming the largest city in the world to do so.

‘Every bullet has a precise address’ – another Israeli journalist justifies the massacre

This logic has been uttered by a prominent Israeli journalist: Mass shootings of Palestinians have saved their lives. Reporting from the sniper positions near the Gaza fence, Dan Margalit writes in his Hebrew-only Haaretz opinion (Saturday):

From this position, the events looked a bit different than from the Karni crossing near Nahal Oz. Now I am convinced, more than at the beginning of the fighting about 10 weeks ago, that the massive shooting at the beginning of the battles [sic] has saved many Palestinian lives, and of course, first and foremost, lives of Israelis.”

And just how does he get to the logic, that mass shooting of Palestinians is good for them (and of course, first and foremost for us, and despite the fact that no real “battles” have really occurred in these demonstrations)?

Don’t expect Elizabeth Warren or Kamala Harris to be critical of Israel

Yesterday the New York Times ran a piece on all the Democratic presidential prospects visiting New York to raise money: “The First 2020 Race Is Underway: Scrambling for New York Donors.” A candidate needs “to construct a $30 million war chest by the end of 2019,” Shane Goldmacher wrote.

New York will be crucial to that task. More than $500 million came from the New York City area to political campaigns in the last full election — the most of any single metropolitan region in the country, according to the Center for Responsive Politics…. The road to the White House runs down 57th Street.

The article mentions a handful of New York fundraisers and donors, and most of them are pro-Israel. Though the article doesn’t delve into that.

PALESTINIANS – 70 YEARS OF SUFFERING

To date, 62 Palestinians have been shot dead in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli army and over 5,500 wounded by gunfire. Their crime: protesting the loss of their ancestral homes in the West Bank. Here was an example of Gandhi-style passive resistance that failed. Israeli sniper teams just fired at will at the protesters, some of who were throwing rocks or firing sling shots. High concentration tear gas was dumped by drones on the demonstrators. Israel claimed it was killing 'terrorists.' The United States, Israel's patron and financier, reveled in the move of its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem ... When Israel was created by the US and UN (with Soviet support) in 1948, from 750,000 to one million native Palestinians were driven from their ancestral home at gunpoint or panicked to flight by massacres and ethnic cleansing. Their villages were bulldozed.

Israeli Minister Says European Union 'Can Go to a Thousand Hells,' After Body Criticizes Israel

"The European Union can go to a thousand hells," said Israel's National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Minister Yuval Steinitz in response to a statement criticizing Israel for an incident involving a human rights activist. In a statement, European Union spokesperson Maja Kocijancic called on Israel to investigate the incident in which Jafar Farah, director of the NGO Mossawa, the Advocacy Centre for Arab Citizens in Israel, claimed he had his leg broken by police during a demonstration against the deaths of dozens of Palestinians in events on the Gaza border on May 14. The spokesperson called on Israel to investigate the incident that is expected to add fuel to the fire of the growing tension between the European Union and Israel.

Syrian Army Enhancing Anti-Aircraft Defenses on Golan Heights – Reports

The Syrian army is reinforcing its air defenses near the Golan frontier as tensions with Israel continue, a Syrian army commander said on Tuesday.

According to the commander, in the coming days additional backup is set to be deployed as the conflict has moved toward the southwest region of the country, Reuters reported.

The placement of the Russian-made Pantsir S1 is intended “to renew the air defense system against Israel in the first degree,” Reuters reported the commander as saying.

Last month, there was a risk of escalation of the conflict after Israel launched a massive airstrike against what it said were 60 "Iranian" military targets in Syria, calling the measure retaliation for the firing of nearly two dozen rockets into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Report: Netanyahu, White House Working to Drive Wedge Between Palestinians and Gulf States

The Trump administration is working with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to create a rift between the Gulf states and the Palestinians, according to a wide-ranging report on Trump's Middle East policy that was published on Monday in The New Yorker.

The report says that the Trump administration's peace plan, which will likely be much closer to the Israeli government's positions than previous U.S. peace plans, could be used by Netanyahu to divide the Gulf monarchies and the Palestinians.

Netanyahu, according to the report, expects the Palestinians to reject Trump's plan, thus creating an opening for the Gulf states to support it and distance themselves from the Palestinian leadership while inching closer towards Israel, with whom they share a common view of Iran as the main threat in the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iran is absolutely not the problem in the region; it is Israel's belligerent, hubristic foreign and domestic policies which are the problem here.

Palestinians protest in Ramallah against the ‘Authority of Shame’

Palestinians took to the streets of Ramallah city Sunday night, demanding that the Palestinian Authority (PA) end its sanctions on the besieged Gaza Strip that have exacerbated a humanitarian crisis in the small Palestinian enclave.

At least 1,500 protesters marched downtown starting at the central Manara Square at 9:30 p.m., a time when the streets are bustling with people shopping, eating, or enjoying ice cream after breaking their fasts during the holy month of Ramadan.

The protest, led by an independent youth movement, was the largest show of support for Gaza in the occupied West Bank since the Great March of Return was launched in the besieged territory on March 30.

The crowd consisted of mostly young Palestinians, but older protesters and children also joined the demonstration. Palestinians traveled from across the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem and Haifa, among other places, to attend the protest.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I do not blame these people for their upset at lack of progress with the PA, which has only had punitive sanctions against the people of Gaza.

ISRAEL TO PAY $16.7M SETTLERS AFTER DEMOLISHING THEIR ILLEGAL HOMES

Israel will pay 60 million shekels ($16.7 million) in compensation to illegal settler families whose houses are being demolished today.

Fifteen buildings in the illegal Israeli settlement of Netiv HaAvot, south of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, are due to be demolished by the Israeli government because they are built on private Palestinian land. The structures will be rebuilt nearby on land that is “not privately owned” but still within the occupied West Bank.

The move to demolish the houses has been widely protested by the settlers and right-wing Israeli ministers, including Israel’s Education Minister and leader of the orthodox Jewish Home party, Naftali Bennett.

Bennett labelled the demolitions “senseless” and vowed that “whoever wants to raze 15 homes will receive 350 on this hill. This is a difficult night. It is incomprehensible to the residents of the Netiv HaAvot neighbourhood and for everyone who has settled the precious land of Israel,” according to Haaretz.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice that it is only for Jewish settlers that this compensation is being awarded; Palestinians are never compensated when their housing is demolished for whatever reason the Israeli government can conjure.

Israeli Military Industries Systems, or IMI Systems, in cooperation with Israel Aerospace Industries, abbreviated IAI, is close to finishing development of a new air-launched, precision-guided, high-speed weapon called Rampage that can hit targets more than 90 miles away. The announcement comes as Israel steps up its cross-border campaign against Iran and its interests in neighboring Syria, which has seen an increasing emphasis on stand-off capabilities given the complex air defense environment in that country, but the weapon could also be especially attractive to a number of foreign military forces.

51 Years Ago the US Covered Up an Israeli False Flag Attack that Killed 34 Americans, Wounded 173

On June 8, 1967, 34 American servicemen were slaughtered and 173 more wounded after Israeli forces repeatedly attacked the USS Liberty in international waters. The Liberty was not a battleship and was entirely unable to defend itself as the hours-long assault took place.wFor decades, the US government threatened the survivors with jail if they spoke about it and kept the truth from the public.

Although Israel apologized for the devastating attacks and maintained that a simple misidentification caused the strikes, startlingly new evidence has surfaced that refutes Israeli claims that this attack was done in error and that the Israelis were unaware they were attacking an American Navy vessel.

The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a U.S. Navy intelligence ship in international waters about 12.5 nautical miles from the coast of the Sinai Peninsula, north of El Arish, by Israeli fighter planes and torpedo boats.

Poll shows deep divisions between Israelis and American Jews

An opinion poll published Sunday shows deep divisions between Israelis and American Jews, particularly in relation to President Donald Trump, highlighting the growing rift between the world’s two largest Jewish communities.

The survey of the American Jewish Committee showed 77 percent of Israelis approved of the president’s handling of U.S.-Israel relations, while only 34 percent of American Jews did. Fifty-seven percent of U.S. Jews disapproved, while only 10 percent of Israelis did.

The polarizing Trump recently recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and relocated the American Embassy there, upending decades of U.S. foreign policy and an international consensus that the city’s fate should be decided through peace negotiations. The Palestinians, who claim east Jerusalem as their future capital, were outraged by the move and cut all contacts with the U.S. in response.

Eighty-five percent of Israelis supported the embassy move, while only 46 percent of American Jews did.

WATCH: Israeli Authorities Demolish Graves at Historic Palestinian Cemetery

Israeli authorities were caught on video excavating portions of the historic Bab al-Rahma cemetery next to Al-Aqsa mosque in occupied East Jerusalem. The cemetery is believed to contain the final resting places of two companions of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.

Video from June 5 shows about a dozen men, presumably members of Israel's Nature and Parks Authority, at a work site in the Bab al-Rahma cemetery, through which Israel is planning to build a national park trail.

The cemetery sits adjacent to Al-Aqsa mosque, the third holiest site in Islam. It is believed to hold the graves of Ubada ibn as-Samit and Shadad ibn Aus, two of the Prophet Muhammad's companions. The cemetery has remained in use for more than 1,000 years.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So now, Israel is not only destroying the future for Palestinians; they are also destroying their past, culture, and history, under the pretext of that destruction being necessary to establish "a national park"; morally, however, this is lower than a snake's belly, and in light of the fact that the legal case here is not finished, is deliberately jumping the gun to prevent the possibility that the cemetery will be allowed to stand.

Israeli Special Forces Train White South African Farmers To Ward Off Violent Attacks

White South African farmers are now being trained by Israeli Special Forces. The farmers are preparing to use force to defend themselves and their property from the violent attacks generated toward them because of their race.

There were 74 farm murders and 638 attacks primarily on white farmers between 2016 and 2017, according to minority rights group AfriForum. “Current murder tendencies indicate that we will lose more people on farms than in the past three years,” AfriForum’s Ian Cameron recently wrote, according to RT.

The situation has been wildly underreported in the mainstream media, and white farmers have felt the need to begin preparing themselves to survive a possible assault. Some of the white farmers will fight back and have turned to Idan Abolnik, a former member of the Israeli special forces, who trains them in hand-to-hand combat and weapons handling, Sky News reported.

Israeli Soldiers Conduct A Limited Invasion Into Central Gaza

Several armored Israeli military vehicles invaded, Monday, Palestinian agricultural lands, east of the al-Boreij refugee camp in central Gaza, and bulldozed sections near the border fence while firing live rounds.

Media sources said the invasion was carried out by four tanks and three D9 armored military bulldozers.

They added that the vehicles advanced approximately 150 meters into the agricultural lands, east of the refugee camp.

The soldiers bulldozed large sections of the invaded lands, and installed sand hills and barbed-wire fences, before firing live rounds at random while military drones flew overhead.

Riverdale Private School Investigates Teacher Over Israel Comments

A history teacher at an elite Riverdale private school is being investigated after some parents took issue with statements he made about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to administrators and reports.

Riverdale Country School instructor Shawn Redden’s job was in limbo after he engaged students in a history class following the killing of 60 Gazans by Israeli soldiers during protests in May. Redden went on a “diatribe” against Israel, one parent told the New York Post.

School administrators said Redden is being investigated.

“At Riverdale Country School we believe that there should always be robust dialogue and debate of different points of view. At the same time, all community members –- students, faculty, and staff — must be treated at all times with respect as outlined specifically in our Principles of School Life,” said Head of School Dominic Randolph in a statement.

Israel’s Attack on the USS Liberty: A Half Century Later, Still No Justice

Only hours after the Liberty arrived it was spotted by the Israeli military. The IDF sent out reconnaissance planes to identify the ship. They made eight trips over a period of three hours. The Liberty was flying a large US flag and was easily recognizable as an American vessel.

Soon more planes came. These were Israeli Mirage III fighters, armed with rockets and machine guns. As off-duty officers sunbathed on the deck, the fighters opened fire on the defenseless ship with rockets and machine guns.

A few minutes later a second wave of planes streaked overhead, French-built Mystere jets, which not only pelted the ship with gunfire but also with napalm bomblets, coating the deck with the flaming jelly. By now, the Liberty was on fire and dozens were wounded and killed, excluding several of the ship’s top officers.

ISRAELI PROPAGANDA: F-35I STEALTH FIGHTERS FLY OVER IRAN UNDETECTED

Can't find anything on Iran's AF Chief being fired yet. But if he was fired it wasn't over an Israeli delusion.
Al-Jarida’s claims have been widely spreaded by the Israeli media, but have been questioned by independent experts and even media outlets.
There are few reasons:

Al-Jarida is a media outlet widely associated wirth Israel and involved into Israeli media and propaganda campaign;
The F-35I’s range of 2,000 km [without external fuel tanks] does not allow the warplane to fly over Iran and went back without stopover or aerial refueling;
The claim about the alleged F-35I operation over Iran came a day after Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Force (IDF) Gadi Eizenkot claimed that the Israeli military had resumed striking targets in Syria [without providing any details or evidence];

The newspaper emphasized that it was the original media source that exposed the Israeli raids, which had taken place last March. The article parrots Israeli hasbara, or propaganda, about al-Najjar: that in a video interview of the medic that the Israelis passed along she described herself as a “human shield.”

Not till paragraph 20 of 22, does the Times state what Jonathan Ofir reported yesterday, the Israeli video cut short al-Najjar’s actual statement in an effort to misrepresent her.

In the longer video, the comment that the military translated as “I act as a human shield” was part of a sentence in which Ms. Najjar said, “I’m acting as a human rescue shield to protect the injured inside the armistice line.”

Reports: Israeli drones burn tyres, protest camps in southern Gaza

Israeli drones reportedly dropped what locals said were firebombs along the borderlines in the south-eastern Gaza Strip on Friday morning.

Locals told the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency that Israeli drones dropped the firebombs on hundreds of tyres that protesters had brought to the area to burn during protests later in the day.

The firebombs also reportedly burned down several tent encampments that had been set up for weeks by protesters participating in the ongoing “Great March of Return” in Gaza.

Palestinian protester hit in face by tear gas canister fired by Israeli soldier in Gaza protests

A Palestinian was on life support in a Gaza hospital on Friday after being struck in the face by a tear-gas canister fired by an Israeli soldier.

Israel says it uses tear gas as a non-lethal measure against Gaza border protests.

But the projectile, launched by a soldier on the Israeli side of the frontier, hit Haitham Abu Sabla in the face as he watched Palestinian stone-throwers taking part in demonstrations east of Khan Younis town, witnesses said.

Despite all the intimidation, all the threats, all the blockades, (despite the inscriptions on the) lists of terrorist organizations, the (campaigns of) defamation, all these efforts (to weaken Hezbollah and diminish its popularity in Lebanon) have been in vain. Therefore, we have a community, a people who, prior to 2000, were worthy of victory, and that is why God granted us victory (on May 25, 2000), and He gave us the victory of 2006, and we remain, by the grace of God, the strongest and the most glorious, because we are worthy of it.

The Israeli Army Edited This Clip Of A Medic They Killed To Make Her Look Like She Was Acting As A Human Shield: "They edited video of Razan al-Najjar to justify her slaughter."

The video the Israel Defense Forces tweeted shows 21-year-old Razan al-Najjar claiming to be a "human shield" for an extreme Palestinian opposition movement against Israel.

Najjar was killed when she was shot in the chest in Gaza on June 1, as she tended the wounded on the front lines. After her death, thousands called her the #AngelOfMercy.

In the short clip, Najjar appears to say she is a "human shield" for Hamas, a group opposed to Israel and designated as a terror organization by the US.

In the full clip, however, taken from an interview Najjar gave to Al Mayadeen TV, she stated, "I'm here as a rescuing human shield to protect and save the wounded at the front lines."

She goes on to state that no one forced her to become a medic. Her cousin Dalia al-Najjar told BuzzFeed News, "Being a nurse was her dream."

Israel’s Attack on the USS Liberty: A Half Century Later, Still No Justice

Two F-4s left the carrier to come to the Liberty’s aid. Apparently, the jets were armed only with nuclear weapons. When word reached the Pentagon, Defense Secretary Robert McNamara became irate and ordered the jets to return. “Tell the Sixth Fleet to get those aircraft back immediately,” he barked. McNamara’s injunction was reiterated in saltier terms by Admiral David L. McDonald, the chief of Naval Operations: “You get those fucking airplanes back on deck, and you get them back down.” The planes turned around. And the attack on the Liberty continued.

After the Israeli fighter jets had emptied their arsenal of rockets, three Israeli attack boats approached the Liberty. Two torpedoes were launched at the crippled ship, one tore a 40-foot wide hole in the hull, flooding the lower compartments, and killing more than a dozen American sailors.

Gaza protests: All the latest updates

For more than two months, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been protesting along the fence with Israel, demanding their right to return to the homes and land their families were expelled from 70 years ago.

The Great March of Return rallies culminated on May 15 to mark what Palestinians refer to as the Nakba, or Catastrophe - a reference to the forced removal of 750,000 Palestinians from their homes and villages to clear the way for Israel's establishment in 1948.

The mass Friday demonstrations have since continued.

Since the protests began on March 30, Israeli forces have killed 124 Palestinians in the besieged coastal enclave and wounded more than 13,000 people.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Due to his characteristic hubris, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu just doesnt' see how horriific the optics on this mass murder are, for the rest of the world.

MATTIS: WITHDRAWING US TROOPS FROM SYRIA WOULD BE A "STRATEGIC BLUNDER"

Speaking at NATO headquarters on Friday, Secretary of Defense James Mattis reiterated his opposition to the idea of withdrawing US troops from Syria. He said any withdrawal before progress was made would be a “strategic blunder.”

Mattis’ position reflects those of a lot of top US cabinet officials, who have resisted President Trump’s talk of a quick withdrawal. He argues that the UN peace plan necessitates an ongoing US military presence.

On the one hand, Mattis suggests leaving too soon could give “the terrorists the opportunity to recover.” On the other hand, he also says that leaving would be exploited by the Assad government and its supporters.

This again sets out the US position that the UN plan necessitates regime change in Syria, something other supporters say is not the case. It also suggests a more or less permanent US presence in Syria, since there is virtually no chance the US will impose a favorable outcome.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The absolute, killer, irony here, is that according to Russian Major-General Igor Konashenkov, in a conversation with reporters today, made the following statement:

All remaining resistence zones in Syria, are US-controlled areas.

Let's wrap our heads for a moment around these two statements, and compare what Sec Def Mattis has stated with what Major-General Konashenkov has stated.

It is obvious that they cannot both be correct. I think, knowing what I know about US geopolitics, that Mattis is trying to find some logic-defying way of defending the military US presence in Syria, which he absolutely understands, in his heart of hearts, is not based on any potential good for the Syrian people; remember, the US has been the sponsor of the rebels in Syria, and has trained and funded and equipped jihadist rebels here.

Pentagon wasted $500 million on training rebels in Syria.

The US and Israeli foreign policy goals have been, and will continue to be, both the balkanization of Syria, to make it easier to control, and effect regime change in Damascus, however that can be made to happen.

ALL REMAINING ISIS RESISTANCE ZONES IN SYRIA ARE IN US-CONTROLLED AREAS – RUSSIAN MOD

Islamic State still keeps its presence in Syria, but only in US-controlled areas while those liberated by Syrian government forces areas are slowly recovering after terrorists’ defeat, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
“All the remaining pockets of resistance of ISIS terrorists in Syria are only in areas controlled by the United States,” Major-General Igor Konashenkov, a defense ministry spokesman, said on Saturday.

Earlier, US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said in a bold statement that pulling out of the Arab Republic “must avoid leaving a vacuum in Syria that can be exploited by the Assad regime or its supporters,” in apparent reference to Iran and Russia.

Russia has been fighting terrorists in the country on the invitation of the Syrian government, while the US presence there has been deemed aggressive by Damascus.

But Sir, It’s an American Ship.' 'Never Mind, Hit Her!' When Israel Attacked USS Liberty

Amid the jubilee celebrations for the Six-Day War, the tragic story of the American spy ship USS Liberty - which was bombed by an Israeli fighter jet and torpedo boats on June 8, 1967 in the eastern Mediterranean - was somewhat overlooked. Thirty-four American sailors were killed in the Israeli attack and many others were wounded ... A new book published in May ... The 302 pages of "Remember the Liberty!: Almost Sunk by Treason on the High Seas" include quite a number of documents, testimonies, arguments and information that were gathered in the subsequent 50 years. The authors' bottom line is that then-U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson was behind the attack, in an attempt to blame then-Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser - an excuse that would then enable the United States to join the Six-Day War.
Note: Recently a fund raiser for aid to the Israel Defense forces netted 15.3 million dollars to the attackers of this ship!!

Remembering the U.S.S. Liberty

The attack on the U.S.S. Liberty by Israeli warplanes and torpedo boats on June 8, 1967, has almost faded from memory, with a younger generation completely unaware that a United States naval vessel was once deliberately attacked and nearly sunk by America's "greatest friend and ally" Israel ... So the treatment of the U.S.S. Liberty should surprise no one in a country whose governing class has been for decades doing the bidding of the powerful lobby of a tiny client state that has been nothing but trouble and expense for the United States of America. Will it ever end? As the Israel Lobby currently controls the relevant parts of the federal government and much of the media change is not likely to happen overnight, but there are some positive signs.

Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu toured Europe this week trying to sink the already sunk Iran nuclear deal. Annoyingly for him though, everyone kept wanting to talk about those 120 or so Palestinians shot by Israeli soldiers.

It was a frustrating few days for Bibi, because the leaders of Germany, France, and Britain didn’t seem to share the view that the best way to keep Iran from getting a nuclear bomb, was to scrap the deal which prevents them from getting a nuclear bomb.

Hidden History - USS Liberty: 'Operation Cyanide': Russians to the rescue

Few people in America or Russia are aware of the crucial and heroic role played by Destroyer 626/4 of the Soviet Navy during the Six-Day War in June, 1967. The commander and crew of this ship guarded the American intelligence vessel GTR-4, better known as the USS Liberty, after the attack on it by the combined air and naval branches of the Israeli Defense Force. The Zionist attack was coordinated with elements of the US Navy, US intelligence and the White House.

The top-secret plan was known as Operation Cyanide and was intended to result in the sinking of the Liberty with all hands, to be blamed on Egypt and exploited to permit the bombing of Cairo and the entry of the United States into the war on Israel’s side. The Soviet Union’s relationships with Arab countries would have been damaged and perhaps cut, with America and Israel seizing control of all Mid-East oil production. Israel’s borders would have expanded from the Nile to the Euphrates Rivers.

On June 8, 1967, US Navy intelligence ship USS Liberty was suddenly and brutally attacked on the high seas in international waters by the air and naval forces of Israel. The Israeli forces attacked with full knowledge that this was an American ship and lied about it. Survivors have been forbidden for 40 years to tell their story under oath to the American public. Israel's attack on the USS Liberty - The full story

Israel insisted (as it still does) that its attack on the Liberty was an unfortunate "accident", a case of "mistaken identity".

The attack ought to have been a sensational, headline-grabbing news story, but beyond the fact that an accident had happened and that Israel had apologised, it did not get reported by America's news organisations. It was too hot an issue for them to handle and pursue. If it had been an Arab attack on an American vessel it would have been an entirely different matter, of course. In that event there would have been saturation coverage with demands for retaliation, with Zionist and other pro-Israeli columnists and commentators setting the pace and tone.

THE DAY ISRAEL DELIBERATELY KILLED THIRTY FOUR AMERICAN SAILORS.

The attack on the USS Liberty by Israeli forces on the forth day of the Arab-Israeli Six Day War is not widely known because the facts are politically and diplomatically awkward. The truth about the attack includes evidence that this was a planned, carefully coordinated and deliberate attack by a friendly power upon a known American naval vessel, and a botched exercise of Command, Control and Communications. But such knowledge is politically unwelcome in the United States, so the facts about the attack were withheld from the American people.

Cover-Up Alleged in Probe of USS Liberty

A former Navy attorney who helped lead the military investigation of the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty that killed 34 American servicemen says former President Lyndon Johnson and his defense secretary, Robert McNamara, ordered that the inquiry conclude the incident was an accident.

In a signed affidavit released at a Capitol Hill news conference, retired Capt. Ward Boston said Johnson and McNamara told those heading the Navy's inquiry to "conclude that the attack was a case of 'mistaken identity' despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary."

It was “one of the classic all-American cover-ups,” said retired Admiral Thomas Moorer, a former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman who spent a year investigating the attack as part of an independent panel he formed with other former military officials. The panel also included a former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia, James Akins.
