Oren Hazan harasses families of Palestinian prisoners

An Israeli member of parliament has verbally harassed Palestinian families hailing from the Gaza Strip on their journey to visit their imprisoned relatives in an Israeli prison, calling their sons "dogs" and "terrorists".

Oren Hazan, a member of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, boarded a bus carrying the families of prisoners on Monday about to enter Nafha prison in Israel's south.

Flanked by Israeli police and camera crews, Hazan, a right-wing politician, shouted at one of the mothers: "Your son is a dog. He is a dog. You come to visit the scum who are sitting here in prison, whom you see as your family members."

To another mother, he said in a video posted on his Facebook page: "I am not going anywhere. I am a Knesset [parliament] member."

French magazine causes uproar after putting Israel next to N. Korea as ‘not a real country’

The magazine, which is aimed at children aged from five to eight, includes trivia card games. On one of the cards, Israel is put on a par with North Korea, both of which are apparently not “real countries.”

"197: We call these 197 countries states, like France, Germany or Algeria. There are others, too, but not all the world’s countries agree that all of them are real countries (for example the State of Israel or North Korea),” reads the card, which has sparked a fierce backlash.

“Shocked by this lie taught to children. Such rhetoric can only encourage anti-Zionism, inseparable from anti-Semitism,” Aliza Bin Noun, the ambassador of Israel to France, said on Twitter, while tagging French President Emmanuel

Francis Kalifat, the president of CRIF (the Federation of Jewish Communities and Organizations of France) condemned the cards, calling them a “factual lie and a flagrant one at that.”

Following the backlash, the magazine was removed from kiosk sales in France and Belgium.

More agricultural lands are reportedly being bulldozed in the area to clear the construction site.

Trump Administration Announces ‘Significant Reduction’ in United Nations Budget

Today, the United Nations agreed on a budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. ?Among a host of other successes, the United States negotiated a reduction of over $285 million off the 2016-2017 final budget. In addition to these significant cost savings, we reduced the UN’s bloated management and support functions, bolstered support for key U.S. priorities throughout the world, and instilled more discipline and accountability throughout the UN system.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 26, 2017: SYRIAN ARMY ACHIEVES STRATEGIC VICTORY IN DAMASCUS COUNTRYSIDE

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) achieved another strategic victory in the countryside of Damascus, according to pro-government sources.

Units of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and other armed groups operating in the Beit Jinn pocket reportedly accepted a withdrawal agreement and declared their readiness to surrender their positions to the SAA.

Negotiations between the local militants and the SAA started in the pocket last week after government forces had entered Maghar al-Mir, secured the nearby hills and cut off the road between Beit Jinn and Maghar al-Mir.

With the implementation of the surrender agreement, the Syrian military will eliminate one of the few remaining militant-held pockets in the Damascus countryside and secure this important area near the Golan Heights.

FLASHBACK - The Danger and Challenge of Jewish-Zionist Power

For many years Israel has violated well established standards of international law and has defied numerous United Nations resolutions in its occupation of conquered lands, in extra-judicial killings, and in repeated acts of military aggression.

Most of the world regards Israel’s policies, and especially its oppression of Palestinians, as illegal and outrageous. This international consensus is reflected, for example, in numerous UN resolutions condemning Israel, which have been approved with overwhelming majorities.

In 1936, the Arab population of Palestine launched a violent uprising. The Nazi persecution in Germany drove many Jews to Palestine (including my own family), and the local Arabs saw their country slipping away from under their feet. They started to react violently. They called it the Great Rebellion, the British talked of "disturbances" and we called it "the events".

Groups of young Arabs attacked Jewish and British vehicles on the roads. When caught, some of them were sent by the British courts to the gallows. When the Arab attacks did not stop, some right-wing Zionists started a campaign of "retaliation" and shot at Arab vehicles.

UNGA Jerusalem Vote Prompts US to Threaten With Sanctions Almost Entire World

***
So, here is the gist of Washington’s position on the issue - it does not care about what the overwhelming majority of nations think. If the US does something that contradicts international law, then so be it. But international law is remembered when other nations do something the US does not approve.

When the UNGA voted against Moscow, Washington emphasized the need to comply and respect the opinion of “international community”. The State Department cites the UN resolutions in its statements to condemn Moscow. Former President Barack Obama referred to the 2014 UNGA resolution on Crimea to call for “isolation” of Russia on international stage. Now, when the US has suffered a crushing defeat at the UNGA, it insists on its right to do whatever it deems right and not to care about what the world says. This is a perfect example of double standards.

The threat to cut aid to other countries is a part of bigger trend. Financial and economic punitive measures have become a foreign policy tool to target Russia, Iran, North Korea and many more countries.>>>

As if Trump’s crass announcement moving the US embassy to Jerusalem wasn’t enough, his minions on Monday vetoed a UN Security Council draft resolution calling on the President to withdraw US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Even his hand-in-hand friend Theresa May, another pimp for Israel, is against him in this. “On Jerusalem, I made it clear that we disagree with the United States’ decision to move its embassy and recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital before a final status agreement,” she declared. “Like our EU partners, we will not be following suit, but it is vital that we continue to work with the United States to encourage it to bring forward proposals that will re-energise the peace process. That must be based around support for a two-state solution and an acknowledgement that the final status of Jerusalem must be subject to negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians.”

Taking Names for Israel

In a scene reminiscent of the movie The Godfather the US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, told the world on December 20 that the US would be "taking names" of countries that voted in the UN to reject Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel. It’s all part of the pattern of condescending arrogance which is the leitmotif of Trump’s call to "make America great again." He and his fawning disciples are providing the answer to the question posed by GW Bush – "Why do they hate us?"

On December 8 Haley tweeted that Washington "will not be lectured to by countries that lack any credibility when it comes to treating both Israelis and Palestinians fairly" which was an insulting rejection of international reaction to Donald Trump’s declaration. She did not mention the unpalatable fact that the Security Council "has adopted a number of resolutions, dating back 50 years, aimed in part at preventing Israel from claiming sovereignty over all of the holy city."

One protest Friday took place only 100 yards from the city’s somber Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, a reminder of Germany’s responsibility for the worst mass murder in history.

A few thousand protesters have taken part so far. Except for several arrests, German authorities have generally refrained from interfering, even as top officials said they were “ashamed” by “the evil face” of anti-Semitism on display.

Trump commutes sentence of kosher meatpacking executive

President Donald Trump on Wednesday commuted the sentence of an Iowa kosher meatpacking executive who had been sentenced to 27 years in prison for money laundering, marking the first time he's used the presidential power.

The decision to intervene on behalf of Sholom Rubashkin, who ran the Iowa headquarters of a family business that was the country's largest kosher meat-processing company, came at the urging of numerous members of Congress and a long list of high-ranking law enforcement officials, who argued the sentence was far too harsh for a first-time, nonviolent offender.

South Africa to downgrade diplomatic status in Israel

South Africa says it will downgrade its diplomatic status in Israel in response to the United States’ decision to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as the Israeli regime’s “capital.”

The ruling African National Congress (ANC) Party announced the decision at a conference in Johannesburg late on Wednesday.

“The ANC’s National Conference, the highest decision making body of our organization, has unanimously resolved to immediately and unconditionally downgrade the South African Embassy in Israel to a liaison office,” the ruling party said in a statement.

The ANC said the resolution aimed to “give practical expression to the oppressed people of Palestine,” and “will send a clear message to Israel that there is a price to pay for its human rights abuses and violations of international law.”
