‘How do you expect the young to forget?’: a visit to Shatila refugee camp

The heels of my shoes hit the dirty alleyways of the camp and I am instantly confronted with the harsh smell of filth. There is the awareness that the stench of death once filled these parts. This is Shatila refugee camp. To most of the outside world, a reminder of a massacre that once happened. A gravesite, a ghetto, a hub for outlaws and criminals. To the inhabitants of this camp, perhaps it is a life sentence. Perhaps it is the dying hope of a return to a home that once was. The old will die and the young will forget. Wasn’t this the plan for those who were exiled from their homes in Palestine? The old are dying, along with their frustration and memories of Palestine. The young, how do you expect the young to forget? Isn’t every minute of every day in a refugee camp enough of a constant reminder?

Israel arrests 12 worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque

Israeli forces today detained 12 Palestinian worshippers from inside Al-Aqsa Mosque’s courtyards in East Jerusalem, according to a Palestinian official.

“Dozens of Israeli police officers stormed the compound and arrested 12 Palestinians while they were reading the Holy Quran in the mosque courtyards,” Firas Al-Dibs, a spokesman for the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf, told the Anadolu Agency.

No details were available why the 12 Palestinians were arrested.

Meanwhile, some 53 Jewish settlers forced their way into the site since morning, according to Al-Dibs.

Israel soldiers who shot Palestinian teen in the back to walk free

Two Israeli soldiers who shot and killed Palestinian teen Samir Awad will walk free after indictments against them were dropped.

The pair shot Samir Awad, a 16-year-old Palestinian, in the back on 15 January 2013. Samir and his friends had been playing near the Separation Barrier outside Budrus, north west of occupied Ramallah, when he became trapped in the fence. The two soldiers from Israel’s 71st Armoured Corps Battalion then appeared from their nearby hiding place and shot the teen as he tried to flee.

A subsequent inquiry undertaken by Israeli human rights organisation B’Tselem said that the soldiers in question had not been in any danger at the time of the incident. Since open-fire regulations permit soldiers to use live ammunition only in cases of real and immediate mortal danger, Samir was shot unlawfully.

Knesset blocks bill defining Israel as ‘country of all citizens’

A bill calling for Israel to be defined as a state of all its citizens was stopped before it reached the Knesset for discussion yesterday.

Submitted by three Joint List Members of the Knesset, the Basic Law: A Country of All Its Citizens stood contrary to efforts to define Israel as “the state of the Jewish people” thus denied equal rights to its non-Jewish citizens.

Haaretz reported Knesset legal adviser Eyal Yinon “said that the legislation seemed to be aimed at altering basic principles – for example, by essentially cancelling the Law of Return (which declares the right of every Jew to immigrate to Israel), and determining instead that receipt of Israeli citizenship will be based on a person’s familial affiliation to another citizen of the state.”

This is the first time proposed legislation has been thrown out before being discussed in the last two Knesset terms.

Lieberman calls for Haneen Zoabi to be sacked

The Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman yesterday called for Arab Member of the Knesset Haneen Zoabi to be dismissed from her post.

In a post on Twitter, Lieberman described Zoabi as a “terrorist” who “promotes terror” against Israeli occupation forces.

Lieberman wrote: “The terrorist Haneen Zoabi is in the Knesset and promotes terror against IDF [Israeli] soldiers and citizens of Israel.”

He urged his followers to write to his fellow MKs to urge them to support expelling Zoabi from her post.

Detainee Al Tamimi’s Health Seriously Deteriorates in Israeli Custody

The health condition of a Palestinian detainee held in Israeli jails, Hassan Al Tamimi, aged 16, has seriously deteriorated on Sunday, due to medical negligence.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said, in a statement, that the health condition of Al Tamimi is extremely bad, adding that Israeli occupation authorities are rejecting to hospitalize him, under the pretext of financial aspects.

PPS added that this move aims at blackmailing the family of the child and puts him at risk of losing life.

Syrians in Golan 'paradise' caught between occupation and war

Driving to the Syrian Golan Heights, just over two hours northeast of Tel Aviv, the change in scenery signals the entrance into territory occupied by Israel since 1967.

The temperature drops as roads twist into mountain ranges, and the green landscape is amplified by the cherry and apple fields the region is known for.

During the war, known by some as the “Six-Day War” and fought between 5 and 10 June 1967, about 130,000 Syrians from the Golan Heights fled further into Syria as 340 villages and farms were demolished by Israeli forces.

Each year on 5 June, Syrians mark their displacement from the Golan with Yom al-Naksa, Arabic for 'the Day of the Setback'. Palestinians observe the same anniversary, commemorating their forced expulsion from the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem.

Today, only one town and four villages remain: Majdal Shams, Buqatha, Masaada, Ein Qenyah and al-Gager, inhabited by approximately 25,000 locals.

IRAN BEGINS TO BUILD ADVANCED CENTRIFUGES

Iran has begun working on infrastructure for building advanced centrifuges at its Natanz facility, Ali Akbar Salehi, the director of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation said today.

Iran’s nuclear activities would remain within the framework of the 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers, Salehi said.

Salehi also said Iran had developed infrastructure to produce electricity at Natanz.

Last month, the US pulled out of what it referred to as the “defective” nuclear deal signed between the P5+1 states in 2015. The move has put the future of the deal at risk and left European leaders scrambling to ensure Iran complies with its terms and companies wondering if they should do business with Tehran as the US threatens to apply unilateral sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF the IAEA, which is still inspecting Iran's facilities, and is comprised of a bunch of very bright people, tells the world that this work complies with the P5+1 deal framework, I would tend to believe them.

Of course, the US, Saudia Arabia and Israel will scream that Iran is getting ready to produce nuclear weapons, even if this move is simply for developing additional energy resources, and use it as their "justification" for an attack against Iran.

Were I the heads of these countries, however, I would seriously want to explore what the Russian response would be, before beginning any such attack; historically, Russia has promised to support Iran militarily against any foreign attacker, and as we have seen in Syria, Russia's military capabilies are very formidable, at this point in its history.

Sixty-two percent of Israelis are happy with the performance of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during last week’s tensions with Gaza, and 59% are satisfied with the functioning of Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, according to a Migdam poll taken for Channel 2.

Twenty-eight percent were unsatisfied with the performance of Netanyahu and Liberman, and the rest of the respondents had no opinion.

The poll found that 41% are in favor of further steps to ease the plight of Gazans; 28% back capturing the Gaza Strip and toppling Hamas; 18% prefer the status quo; and 11% had no opinion.

Israel digs up centuriesold Palestinian graves in Jerusalem

Israeli authorities have resumed excavation work at the historic Bab Al-Rahma cemetery, just outside the eastern wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Israel's Nature And Parks Authority (INPA) reportedly began digging up graves about three weeks ago in order to establish "a national park on parts of the cemetery's land," Wafa said.

The centuriesold cemetery has great religious significance and is the site of the graves of Ubada ibn as-Samit and Shadad ibn Aus, companions of the Prophet Muhammad.

Ex-spy Chief Said 'Fun Part' About Mossad Is That It's a Crime Organization. Netanyahu Is Not Amused

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a report published last week that accused him of asking the former head of the Shin Bet security service to listen to the telephone conversations of then-IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz and then-Mossad chief Tamir Pardo.

"The Mossad is not a criminal organization. It is a splendid organization that does holy work in the fight against terrorism and other threats to the State of Israel, and we all salute it," Netanyahu said at the weekly cabinet meeting Sunday. The prime minister was responding to Pardo, who described the Mossad as "a crime organization with a license" and said "that's the fun part" of working there. Pardo was speaking in an interview with Uvda, the investigative TV show that aired the report Thursday.

ISRAEL IS NOW HELPING SAUDI ARABIA DEVELOP NUCLEAR WEAPONS

The Israeli government has begun selling the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia information on how to develop nuclear weapons, according to a senior official at the Israeli military organization iHLS (Israel’s Homeland Security). Ami Dor-on, a senior nuclear commentator at the organization — which is partially funded by U.S. weapons-giant Raytheon – came forward because of his concern over the emerging nuclear arms race in the region. The cooperation between the two countries in helping the Saudis to develop a nuclear weapons program is just the latest sign of their warming relationship, with Israel recently calling the Saudi crown prince “a partner of Israel.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Great, just what the world needs; another nuclear power in the Middle East, with a twitchy trigger finger, particularly as it continues to confront Iran, both economically, and ultimately militarily.

LAPID: NETANYAHU WIRETAPPING IS REMINISCENT OF WATERGATE

If reports are true that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the wiretapping of his cabinet ministers, it would be tantamount to the Watergate scandal that rocked the United States, Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid told The Jerusalem Post at the party’s faction meeting Monday.

Channel 10 quoted a “senior security figure” Sunday saying that he was present in a meeting five years ago in which Netanyahu requested wiretapping phones of more than 100 IDF officers and senior cabinet ministers. Lapid, who was a minister at the time, said he did not know if he was wiretapped.

Does Israel have a ‘right to self-defence’ against Gaza?

On 1 June 2018, Razan al-Najjar—a 21 year-old paramedic—was shot dead by an Israeli sniper in Gaza while providing medical treatment to wounded protestors. She became the 119th Palestinian killed in Gaza since mass demonstrations against Israel’s siege began on 30 March. During the same period, Israeli forces shot more than 3,600 protestors with live ammunition, a figure which Israel’s preeminent human rights organisation B’Tselem has characterised as a ‘mindboggling number of casualties’. The onslaught has left Gaza’s strained healthcare system on the verge of collapse.

Standing up to the UN shows America’s greatness

t happened again last week. When the UN Security Council voted to condemn Israel for what happened along its border with Gaza — without even mentioning Hamas, let alone acknowledging the terror group’s responsibility for the violence — not a single nation joined the United States in opposing the motion. When UN Ambassador Nikki Haley then put forward a separate measure condemning Hamas, the rest of the council either voted no or abstained. That leaves Americans asking whether fears about having the rest of the world aligned against us are more important than pride in being willing to stand up and do the right thing, even if it means being alone.
Note: Always shifting the blame to Hamas. Age old trick of liars.

Knesset disqualifies bill seeking equal status for Jews and Arabs

The Israeli Knesset (parliament) disqualified a bill on Sunday that called for redefining Israel as a state for all its citizens, rejecting the argument that it must recognize the rights of its Arab minority citizens as equal to its Jewish majority.

The text of the bill stated its objective as "to anchor in constitutional law the principle of equal citizenship while recognizing the existence and rights of the two, Jewish and Arab, national groups living within the country".

“National security” cited as reason Al Jazeera nixed Israel lobby film

Al Jazeera’s investigative documentary into the US Israel lobby was censored by Qatar over “national security” fears, The Electronic Intifada has learned.

These include that broadcast of the film could add to pressure for the US to pull its massive Al Udeid air base out of the Gulf state, or make a Saudi military invasion more likely.

A source has confirmed that broadcast of The Lobby – USA was indefinitely delayed as “a matter of national security” for Qatar. The source has been briefed by a high-level individual in Doha.

One of the Israel lobby groups whose activities are revealed in the film has been mounting a campaign to convince the US to withdraw its military forces from Qatar – which leaders in the emirate would see as a major blow to their security.

Syria's Assad: Improving Air Defenses to Stop Israeli Strikes, Ready to Confront U.S. Troops

Syrian President Bashar Assad said in an interview on Thursday that the only way to stop Israeli air strikes is by improving the country's air defenses. "We are doing that," he said. In a televised interview to RT in Damascus, Assad denied Iranian troops are in Syria, saying there are only Iranian officers who are working with the Syrian army. Assad, echoing Russia from earlier in the week, said the United States must exit the war-torn country. "The Americans should leave, somehow they are going to leave," he said. Responding to U.S. President Donald Trump's description of him as "Animal Assad," the Syrian leader said: "What you say is what you are." Assad said he would recover areas of Syria held by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and that U.S. forces should learn the lesson of Iraq and leave the country.

15 HAMAS TARGETS IN THE GAZA STRIP STRUCK BY ISRAELI AIR FORCE OVERNIGHT

The Israel Air Force attacked 15 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip overnight Sunday following mortar fire against southern Israeli communities on Saturday evening, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit announced.

The military said the strikes were a response to the earlier rocket fire as well as “terror incidents led and made possible by the Hamas terror organization over the course of the weekend” which included the throwing of grenades, improvised explosive devices, attempts to infiltrate into Israel by damaging the security fence and the burning of Israeli fields by incendiary kites.

With More Gaza Protests Planned, Don’t Believe the Mainstream Media’s Lies

Since the beginning of the Great March of Return on March 30, Israel has killed over 100 Palestinians and injured over 12,000. Only one Israeli, a soldier, has been injured in the context of the march.

Most mainstream western media coverage of Gaza’s march has systematically decontextualized the mass civilian protest, brushed off Israel’s weekly massacres as “clashes,” reified the boundary fence between Gaza and Israel a “border,” presented Palestinian protesters as “Hamas pawns” passively “dying for photo ops” and deployed other strategic falsehoods to dehumanize Palestinians fighting for their freedom. The net effect is the demonization of the march and the absolution of Israel of its murderous assault.

Israel Planned to Attack Iran and Start a War, Former Spy Chief Says

Israel planned to bomb Iran and initiate an all-out conflict in the Middle East, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's former head of intelligence, who said he believed the move may have been illegal.

Tamir Pardo, who served as head of Israeli spy agency Mossad from 2011 to 2016, told local investigative program Uvda in an interview set to air Thursday that Netanyahu instructed his military command in 2011 to prepare for a strike against longtime foe Iran, which Israel has accused of developing nuclear weapons and supporting militant groups abroad. Pardo said then-Israeli chief of staff Benny Gantz informed the prime minister that the armed forces would be ready within 15 days.

U.S. GAVE JERUSALEM TO ISRAEL, WILL SYRIA'S GOLAN HEIGHTS BE NEXT?

Israel has been pressuring the U.S. to recognize its self-proclaimed ownership of the Golan Heights, a southwestern Syrian territory seized by Israel during a 1967 conflict and later annexed without international recognition.

Israeli Intelligence Minister Israel Katz made the revelation in an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, saying such a follow-up to Washington's recognition of the disputed city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel would likely come within the upcoming months. Katz said accepting Israeli control of the Golan Heights would target not only longtime foe Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but also an even more powerful enemy: Iran.

Israel has targeted Iranian and pro-Iran positions in Syria for years and Katz said President Donald Trump's recent decision to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and exit from the 2015 nuclear agreement meant it was "the perfect time" to escalate the administration's anti-Iran campaign.

The Jewish Agency (/Israeli government) had agreed that Jaffa would be part of the Palestinian state — or, rather, it agreed when within earshot of the United Nations, until after UNGA Resolution 181, the UN Partition plan that effectively created the Israeli state, was shoved through the UN by the United States.

Partition’s architects acknowledged that keeping Jaffa non-contiguous with the rest of Palestine created problems for the Palestinians; but alternatives that kept Jaffa contiguous created a parallel problem for the Zionists. Resolution 181 made Jaffa a Palestinian island, accessible to the rest of Palestine either by sea or through Israel.

Dr. Ashrawi: “U.S. Veto Absolute Proof Of Moral Corruption”

On Saturday, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, stated that the U.S. Veto against a resolution demanding international protection to the Palestinian people, is an absolute proof of moral corruption of the U.S. administration, providing impunity to the ongoing Israeli crimes against the unarmed Palestinian population.

US isolated at UN, vetoes popular resolution and finds no backers for anti-Hamas bill

The United States vetoed on Friday a Kuwaiti-drafted UN Security Council resolution that condemned Israel’s use of force against Palestinian civilians, underlining Washington’s differences with friends and foes alike over the Israeli-Palestinian issue.

Later, a second, US-drafted resolution that blamed Hamas for the violence and upheld Israel’s right to defend itself failed to attract any other country’s support when it was put to vote in the 15-member council.

Blasting the council majority, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said the two votes showed it was willing to blame Israel and unwilling to blame Hamas, the group that dominates Gaza.

“The terrorist group Hamas bears primary responsibility for the awful living conditions in Gaza,” Nikki Haley, US ambassador to the United Nations, said ahead of the vote.

“It is now completely clear that the UN is hopelessly biased against Israel,” she said in a statement.

Following the tightening of Israel’s security measures and military barriers between the West Bank and Jerusalem and banning of all male worshippers under the age of forty, dozens of Palestinian youths scaled the separation wall with wooden ladders to reach Al Aqsa Mosque.

NATO ‘security guarantees’ do not apply to partner Israel – Stoltenberg

NATO is not obliged to come to the rescue should a hypothetical war break out between Iran and Israel, Jens Stoltenberg has told Germany’s Der Spiegel, amid increased tensions between the bitter Middle East rivals.

“Israel is our partner, but not a member of NATO. The security guarantee of Article 5 does not apply to Israel,” Secretary General of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg told the magazine. Article 5 of NATO’s treaty stipulates that an attack against one ally is considered as an attack against all allies, but it does not apply to those designated only as “partners” of the alliance.

Lockheed Martin Opening Jerusalem Preschool for Israelis

“We could have set up a research institute on military aviation worldwide, but we went in the direction of [childhood] education because that’s what fires us up.” — Lockheed Martin

American aerospace contractor and maker of the F-35 stealth fighter jet, Lockheed Martin, is opening a “one of a kind” science-focused preschool in Jerusalem, with plans to serve Israeli children as young as five, according to a press release from Jerusalem’s municipality.

In May of this year, an Israeli military official openly bragged that “Israel was the first regime in the world to have used the U.S.-made F-35 stealth fighter jets in attack mode.” In December of 2016, Israel received the first two F-35s out of the 50 ordered from the United States.

Lockheed Martin invested over $1 billion in Israel between 2010 and 2017.

‘Why does Israel get impunity?’ UNSC call for protection of Palestinians vetoed by US

The United States has vetoed a Kuwaiti proposal to the United Nation Security Council (UNSC), which sought to offer “international protection” to Palestinian civilians in the wake of more than 120 of deaths in the Gaza strip.

In a speech to the council, US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley criticized the proposal, describing it as a “grossly one-sided view”. Haley accused Hamas of inciting violent acts at the border between Gaza and Israel, purposefully infiltrating the ‘Great March of Return’ mass protests with its “terrorist fighters” and deliberately using civilians as human shields.

“The terrorist group Hamas bears primary responsibility for the awful living conditions in Gaza,” she said, before the UNSC vote.

‘WMD free zone:’ Russia & UAE agree to join forces on Middle East non-proliferation

Moscow and Abu Dhabi have said they would take “active” efforts to turn Middle East into a zone free from any weapons of mass destruction. The ambitious goal was stated in a newly signed strategic partnership declaration.

“Turning Middle East into a zone free from weapons of mass destruction” was listed as one of the major aims in a declaration on strategic partnership between Russia and the United Arab Emirates signed on June 1. The goal is seen as part of a wider effort aimed at enhancing international security.

Debunking 18 claims justifying this week’s Gaza massacre

This) is why I have decided to spare others the time, effort, and emotion, by writing out the most common claims I have seen regarding the events of the Great March of Return, followed by my responses. Those interested in fact-checking these common falsehoods, can find them in one place ... Claim 1: Israel acted with "restraint" towards protesters in Gaza ... First thing I can think of is, what border? Israel is the only country in the world with no defined borders, as they keep expanding into others' land. The line between Gaza and Israel is an armistice line from 1949 and 1967, not an internationally recognized border ... Claim 2: Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish people for 3,000 years ago. Moving the embassy is just a recognition of that reality ... Claim 3: This Great March of Return is totally organized by Hamas, a terrorist group.
Note: Everyday and in every way Israel is making more enemies!

‘Why does Israel get impunity?’: US vetoes UNSC proposal to ensure protection for Palestinians

The US was the only council member to vote against the proposal. There were 10 votes in favor and four abstentions (Poland, the UK, Netherlands and Ethiopia). A resolution needs nine votes in favor and no vetoes by the US, Russia, China, France or the UK in order to be adopted.

“The message given by the council today, as it votes against this, is that the occupying power enjoys an exception,” the Kuwaiti representative said, after the proposal was vetoed.

"Why do Palestinians continue to suffer? Why does the international community fail to act? Why does Israel enjoy impunity? Why are all these lives lost and all this blood is shed?” he asked.

EU slams Israeli decision to demolish West Bank Bedouin village

The European Union on Thursday urged Israel to reconsider its decision to demolish a Palestinian Bedouin village in the occupied West Bank, saying it undermines "prospects for a lasting peace".

A statement from the EU denounced the intended destruction of the Khan Al-Ahmar village which comes at the same time as the construction of more Israeli settlements on occupied land.

"Building new settlements for Israelis while demolishing Palestinian homes in the same area will only further entrench a one-state reality of unequal rights, perpetual occupation and conflict," the statement said.

Israel to invest in neglected Palestinian areas in Jerusalem

The Israeli government on Thursday unveiled what it billed as a groundbreaking program to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in long-neglected Palestinian neighborhoods of east Jerusalem.

The "Leading Change" program aims to reduce the huge social gaps between the Palestinian neighborhoods and the overwhelmingly Jewish western part of the city. Palestinian neighborhoods suffer from poor infrastructure, neglect and subpar public services, and nearly 80 percent of the city's Palestinian families live in poverty.

June 5 is the 51st commemoration of the Israeli invasion and occupation of Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem and on June 7 of the same year, Israel seized control over Jerusalem's Old City. The committee of Palestinians coordinating the ongoing, mass protests in the Gaza Strip are calling on human rights advocates around the world to mobilize June 5 and 8 in solidarity.

France promotes rifles used in Gaza massacres

The maker of rifles used during Israel’s recent massacres in Gaza will soon exhibit its products at an arms fair sponsored by the French government.

Amnesty International’s investigations have identified the Tavor as likely to have been one of the main guns fired by Israeli snipers attacking Palestinian demonstrators over the past two months.

As the manufacturer of that rifle, Israel Weapon Industries ought to be blacklisted by every country which professes concern for human rights.

France is one such country. Emmanuel Macron, its president, officially condemned the killing of more than 100 Palestinian demonstrators since 30 March.

His condemnation was hollow. It came as preparations were underway for the Eurosatory weapons fair in Paris.

Abbas Refused to Meet Democratic Delegation, Led by Pelosi, That Visited Israel

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas refused to meet with a delegation of Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives that visited Israel two months ago, in protest of the Trump administration’s policies toward Israel. Abbas’ refusal to meet the delegation caught its members by surprise, because many of them are constant critics of the Trump administration, and they were hoping to hear the Palestinian point of view about Trump’s policies while visiting the region.

The delegation, led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, visited Israel and Jordan in late March. It comprised 11 representatives, including two members of the House Intelligence Committee. They held lengthy meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and King Abdullah II in Amman, Jordan. In addition, they met with representatives of civil rights groups in Israel that are fighting against the government’s plan to deport African asylum seekers.

US Opposes Protecting Gazans from Excessive Israeli Force

On Friday, a Kuwait-drafted Security Council resolution to be voted on calls for protecting Gazans from Israeli high crimes, citing “excessive use of force” against (peaceful) demonstrators by IDF soldiers.

Washington intends vetoing it. Neocon extremist US UN envoy Nikki Haley falsely called it “grossly one-sided…only serv(ing) to undermine ongoing efforts toward peace” – bald-faced lies!

The US and Israel deplore peace and stability, waging endless undeclared wars of aggression, civilians in affected theaters harmed most – Gazans viciously abused for 11 years under suffocating blockade conditions.

According to PA UN envoy Riyad Mansour, Washington intends vetoing the Kuwaiti draft resolution unless it’s unacceptably amended.

Instead of even minimal Israeli accountability for horrendous high crimes, the Trump regime wants pro-Western UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to submit undefined “recommendations” on Gaza within 60 days.

Gaza's Great Return March massacre: A turning point?

The opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem on 14 May has rubbed salt into gaping wounds.

As "presidential adviser" Ivanka Trump stood gleefully next to a triumphant Benjamin Netanyahu at the heart of the illegally annexed city, Israel was engaging in yet another massacre less than 100km to the southwest. Dozens of people were killed in Gaza and thousands injured in the six weeks of the Great Return March, between Land Day and Nakba Day, and many of the injured still languish in Gaza’s ill-equipped hospitals.

The siege of Gaza, whose population largely comprises refugees, continues to choke the region, in what has been described as an “incremental genocide”.

Ongoing Nakba
This is what Palestinians mean when they say the Nakba is ongoing. The wrongs against us were not perpetrated just once, in 1948; they continue to this day, with more displacement, more land theft and more mass killings.

Victim blaming after the Gaza massacre

While the world focused on the opening of the new US Embassy in occupied Jerusalem, the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip were trying to send the message that they are people whom Israel and the international community have driven off their land. The Great Return March protests are intended to get the world to see Palestinians as human beings. If the world is ignoring this, how must it feel about recognition of the Palestinians’ legitimate rights, including the right to return? Palestinian refugees remain stuck in limbo and their tragedy has not been resolved by negotiations, armed struggle or even, it seems, peaceful popular action.

UN boss warns of ‘trouble’ at Palestinian camps in Lebanon, following Trump aid cut

A new reality is unravelling in the Middle East. Israel is more or less running Trump’s foreign policy there and part of the plan is to cut all aid to Palestinians in a bid to usher in a new conflict to eclipse a peace blueprint

The daily inhalation and dehumanization of Palestinians continues to shock us all. Just when you think you can cope with the scale of how far Israel will go to brutalise these people, our TV screens are filled with images of protesters and even doctors being shot dead by Israeli soldiers. Like sport.

Put into context, placed alongside a human rights crackdown on the Gaza strip, a total blockade on rights organisations’ investigations, land grabs on settlements reaching almost fever pitch, and one begins to wonder if we are witnessing a new impetus from Israel.

The New York Times did a piece suggesting that Israelis have a conscience about the violence they poured forth at the Gaza border, and they hope that it was the right thing to do. But Gideon Levy says they have lost their conscience; and that was my impression too from interviewing Israeli Jews in West Jerusalem. I talked to 20 people. Every one expressed support for the killings. There was simply no dissent, even from a Meretz supporter.

I asked why Israel was getting such bad press over the shootings; and here are some responses:

Israeli naval forces have intercepted a Palestinian vessel hours after it sailed off the coast of the besieged Gaza Strip.

The 17 people on board were attempting to break an Israeli-imposed siege for the first time in more than a decade, and had set off with the intention of reaching Limassol, a coastal city in southern Cyprus.

The intercepted boat had crossed nine nautical miles (16km) before four Israeli warships flanked the vessel.

Israeli Occupation Forces Block Flotilla as it Leaves Gaza for Cyprus

Israeli authorities are responsible for the safety of the ship’s passengers, who are “ill, students and unarmed civilians.”

Head of the Popular International Committee to Support Gaza, Dr Essam Yousef, called on the international community to pressure Israel to immediately release the passengers of a ship that set sail yesterday from Gaza heading to Cyprus in an effort to break the 12 year siege of the enclave.

Israeli occupation forces flanked the ship as it reached nine nautical miles from Gaza’s shores only for them to force it on to the Israeli port of Ashdod to the north of Gaza.

In a press statement today, Yousef condemned “the latest crime which is to be added to the occupation’s criminal record against the Palestinian people and the people of Gaza, who have been besieged for 12 years. This is a violation of all international conventions, laws, and legislations.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbot Overturned: U.S. Federal Court Finds Boycotting Israel Legal

A FEDERAL JUDGE on Tuesday ruled that a Kansas law designed to punish people who boycott Israel is an unconstitutional denial of free speech.

The ruling is a significant victory for free speech rights because the global campaign to criminalize, or otherwise legally outlaw, the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement has been spreading rapidly in numerous political and academic centers in the U.S.

This judicial decision definitively declares those efforts — when they manifest in the U.S. — to be a direct infringement of basic First Amendment rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

White House Official Condemns ‘Reprehensible’ Gaza Fire into Israel

The Trump administration on Tuesday condemned the Gazan attack on Israel that began in the early hours and continued through the evening.

One official called the attacks “reprehensible,” while another told The Jerusalem Post that they justified “preventative” measures taken by the Israeli military – actions previewed earlier by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has vowed a response to the worst day of projectile fire on the South since the 2014 Gaza War (Operation Protective Edge).

“We are aware of numerous mortar attacks on Israel today and are closely monitoring the situation, ” a National Security Council spokesman told the Post. “ We call on those launching the attacks to cease this destructive violence.

Americans Oppose Investigating the Gaza Massacre

Most Americans would oppose any Trump Administration support for an International Criminal Court investigation into Israel’s use of lethal force against Palestinian protesters on May 14. This is because they either never heard about the massacre or received slanted coverage.

Thousands of Palestinian protesters in Gaza gathered in May near a "no-go" zone along an Israeli-built separation fence. They protested the 70th anniversary of the "Nakba" – or expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians in 1948 from what is now Israel. Throughout "March of Return" protests Israeli snipers shot, killed and severely wounded protesters from behind the safety of protective berms. Palestinian casualties peaked the day Trump administration and Israeli officials celebrated recent U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital by opening a brand-new US embassy in the contested city on May 14.

How the Gaza Massacre Exposed International Cowardice

No other word suffices. No other word captures the signature essence of diplomats – from Canada, the United Nations, Europe – and their obscene, code-word-laced responses to the massacre of Palestinians, including an eight-month-old child.

When the shocking, sprawling human carnage that revealed itself in Gaza on Monday demanded an unequivocal denunciation of the state-sanctioned murder of innocent children, women and men, predictably, they equivocated.

Worse, in prevaricating, they sided, in effect, with the murderers, as cowards are apt to do. In that urgent moment, they hid behind strikingly similar tweets or press releases to point an accusatory finger at the victims; to absolve the perpetrators of their complicity and guilt; to refashion history by insisting that the “violence” did not constitute a massacre, but a “conflict” between two equivalent adversaries; to imply that the victims invited their fates; and to suggest that the victims are propaganda props of “terrorists”.

BREAKING: Israeli Media Exposes Identity of IDF Commander Whose Unit Kidnaps, Assassinates Palestinians

Last week, the hated IDF unit, Duvdevan, performed yet another of its nightly raids in the Palestinian refugee camp al-Am’ari outside Ramallah. It was searching for a Palestinian suspect. It’s not known whether it apprehended the suspect, who he was, or what he was suspected of. Palestinian villagers hate these nighttime raids in which their fellow residents are kidnapped, dragged for questioning, and often imprisoned for months or years either without charges or on trumped-up charges. Duvdevan personnel in particular often disguise themselves as mistarvim (dress as local Palestinians) to arrest and even assassinate targets. That’s why local residents engage in acts of resistance, including rock throwing, at the unwelcome Israeli troops.
