Catherine Shakdam: After Hitler, Saudis Next in History to Have Used Hunger as Weapon of War

Political analyst Catherine Shakdam says Saudi Arabia’s use of hunger as a weapon of war and unprecedented targeting of civilians are indications to the very nature of Saudi Arabia’s intentions in Yemen.

Shakdam, in an exclusive interview with FNA, said that Saudi Arabia wants “to destroy the very idea of Yemen as a sovereign nation” to ensure its own rule being the sole prevailing power in the region.

The analyst believes that the patient and resilient Yemeni people, backed by their own history and civilization, have already won the war against Saudi Arabia who has spent billions of dollars to buy military technology and mercenaries.

The Pentagon’s “Ides of March”: Best Month to Go to War

Is it a coincidence?

In recent history, from the Vietnam war to the present, the month of March has been chosen by Pentagon and NATO military planners as the “best month” to go to war.

With the exception of the War on Afghanistan (October 2001) and the 1990-91 Gulf War, all major US-NATO and allied led military operations over a period of more than half a century –since the invasion of Vietnam by US ground forces on March 8, 1965– have been initiated in the month of March.

The Ides of March (Idus Martiae) is a day in the Roman calendar which broadly corresponds to March 15. The Ides of March is also known as the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC.

Lest we forget, the month of March (in the Roman Calendar) is dedicated to Mars (Martius), the Roman God of War.

For the Romans, the month of March (Martius) marked “the time to start new military campaigns.”

For Yemen’s sake, stop giving Saudis WMDs: Rouhani to West

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has called on the Western countries to stop providing Saudi Arabia with weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) for the sake of Yemeni people, who have been suffering under Riyadh’s bloody attacks and siege.

Rouhani made the remarks in an address to a large crowd of people in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan Province on Wednesday.

“We say to Europe and the world that if you truly care about the people of Yemen; Don’t give Saudi Arabia destructive bombs. If you really think of Yemenis, don’t give Saudi Arabia banned Napalm bombs, don’t give Saudi Arabia cluster bombs,” he said.

The comments came two days after Russia vetoed a British-drafted resolution at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that seemed more to target Iran rather than address the Yemen crisis. The failed document called for “additional measures” against Iran over accusations that it violated the 2015 arms embargo on Yemen.

Senators Look to End Yemen War With First-Ever War Powers Challenge: US involvement in Saudi invasion never authorized by Congress

A bipartisan effort by four senators is looking to end the US military’s involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen, with the introduction of the first ever War Powers Act vote to come out of the Senate.

Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Chris Murphy (D-CT) are forwarding the bill, which notes that Congress has never authorized the use of military force in Yemen. This should allow Congress to oblige the administration to end US involvement in the war.

The US has participated in the Saudi invasion of Yemen since it began in 2015, with US planes performing mid-air refueling missions for Saudi bombers, and US warships at times participating in the Saudi-led naval blockade which is causing mass starvation in Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This move is morally correct, as the US government and military have been colluding with Saudi Arabia in war crimes in Yemen, through participation in the blockade and providing aerial refueling of Saudi bombers, supporting the bombing runs which have led to the massive, indescriminate killing of innocents, including women, children, infants, and the medically fragile elderly. And now, we have massive cases of cholera and diptheria ravaging the land.

But as morally correct as it may be, the passage of such legislation may prove quixotic in the extreme, for several reasons.

First, the Butcher of Yemen, AKA the Saudi Prince Salman, hates the fact that the Houthi rebels are Shia, and believes that they are getting extensive assistance from Iran (which, BTW, can hardly be proven at this point, other than for a few Iranian advisors).

Iran is considered by Saudi Arabian royalty and government to be its existential threat in the region.

So, the plan is, pound the Yemeni people down to extinction, through the genocidal campaign Saudi Arabia is currently waging against it, then go after Iran militarily. This was reported at globalresearch.ca on 13 February of this year:

The Coming War on Lebanon: Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the US Prepare for a long-Planned Middeast War.

The basic plan is to invade and control Lebanon, destroying Iran's ally Hezbullah; destabilizing and regime changing Damascus; then attacking Iran, with US and Israeli military help.

Of course, there is one tiny bit of of the calculus which Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the US haven't quite factored into their plans, and that is the current Russian presence in Syria, and the Russian promise it has consistently made to Iran to defend it if it should ever be invaded.

And THAT... is the thousand pound gorilla, sleeping splayed over the grand piano, which is going going to make such coming wars.... interesting, if not globally devastating.

Iran Blasts US, Britain, France for Massacre of Yemeni Women, Children

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi slammed the US, Britain and France for escalating war in Yemen through their arms shipments and supports for the Saudi-led coalition, saying the three UN Security Council member states are responsible for the pains, sufferings and massacre of women and children in Yemen.

Qassemi blasted the US and Britain for their unconstructive role in the UN Security Council in the past three years and their attempts to legitimize the aggressors in the Yemen war, stressing the need for ending the Saudi-led aggression against the poor Arab country.

Yemen's forgotten war: Locals tell their stories

With Yemen's political and humanitarian situation growing increasingly fragile, DW speaks to people inside the country about what life is like in the midst of the war.

The third anniversary of the war in Yemen is approaching, and there are few signs that the conflict, which is being fought between an armed military group called the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces, is abating.

Last month, the country was pushed into further uncertainty following the killing of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh by the Houthis. Saleh, a former Houthi ally who had switched allegiances to support the Saudi-led coalition, was an important figure in the war and his death has been viewed as cementing Houthi power, in the short term at least.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In terms of blame, and really missing the mark as to just how resilient the Houthi rebels were, we can thank Saudi Prince Salman, the Butcher of Yemen, for this obscene situation here, aided and abbetted in his war crimes, by none other than the Good Old Us Government.

Innocent women and children have been slain, indiscriminately; the medical infrastructure has been gutted by Saudi bombings; and Depleted Uranium, that "gift that keeps on giving", has been used, giving rise to massive rises in stillbirths and horrific fetal deformities in Yemen's children.

Malnutrition is causing Yemeni children to starve to death; disease, in the forms of both cholera and diptheria (pehaps weaponized), have felled hundreds of other, and appear to be expanding their deathly grasp.

Prince Salman could initiate a diplomatic solution by attempting to negotiate with the Houthi Rebels; he will not, because of not wanting to "lose face" in the Arab World, and because he believes that the Shia Houthi are aided by Iran, his existential enemy.

So he is very happy, to continue to allow the death of Yemeni innocents, by any means necessary, to essentially beat Yemen into a pulp, before he goes after Iran with a direct military conflict, supported by the US Government, and specifically President Trump. As reported at financetwitter last November:

With Trump's Support, Saudi Crown Prince is ready for a war with Iran

Russia then put forward a resolution to extend sanctions and the experts' work that made no mention of Iran or the panel's findings. It was adopted unanimously.

Spotlight: Peace far away as showdown approaches Syria's Eastern Ghouta

The rebel-held Eastern Ghouta in the countryside of Syrian capital Damascus has witnessed intense airstrikes and shelling as military showdown is approaching.

The spark of the recent unprecedented violence was ignited a couple of months ago when al-Qaida-linked groups launched an offensive against a key military base in the city of Harasta in the rebel-held Eastern Ghouta countryside of Damascus, prompting a counter military offensive in that area.

The attacks at the times were coupled with rebels shelling of the capital Damascus, and Syrian airstrikes targeting the rebel positions in Eastern Ghouta.

But the situation has dramatically worsened in recent days when a wide-scale military offensive on Eastern Ghouta was in place, preparing to end the presence of al-Qaida-linked groups in that area.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) This is the worst kind of war; in packed, urban areas, where it can be impossible to detect friend from foe, and innocents get killed on a routine basis.

I sincerely hope (and pray) that the Russians, in concert with the Syrian military, have formulated a strategy which can guarantee the minimum numbers of civilian casualties possible here, but understand that this will be extraordinarily difficult.

The Coming Wars to End All Wars

The Trump and Netanyahu governments have a problem: How to start a greatly expanded Middle-Eastern war without having a justifiable reason for one. No doubt they are working hard to solve this urgent problem. If they can’t find a “justification” (which they can’t), they will have to create one (which they will). Or perhaps they will find what they have already created. Whatever the solution, we should feel confident that they are not sitting on their hands. History teaches those who care to learn that when aggressors place a gun on the wall in the first act of their play, it must go off in the final act.

Escalation in Syria – How Far Can the Russians be Pushed? - The Saker

A new US strategy in Syria: to punish the Russians as much as possible short of an overt US attack on Russian forces.

Events in Syria have recently clearly taken a turn for the worse and there is an increasing amount of evidence that the Russian task force in Syria is being targeted by a systematic campaign of “harassing attacks”.

First, there was the (relatively successful) drone and mortar attack on the Russian Aerospace base in Khmeimin. Then there was the shooting down of a Russian SU-25 over the city of Maasran in the Idlib province. Now we hear of Russian casualties in the US raid on a Syrian column (along with widely exaggerated claims of “hundreds” of killed Russians).

What’s Really Going On In The Middle East

Many are under the impression that the chaos that is spreading throughout the Middle East is to protect the petrodollar and secure oil resources for American and Western companies.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

First, the petrodollar is backed by Saudi Arabia and the other Arab countries. Yet, the US Congress recently passed a law that allows victims of “terrorism” to sue the Saudis.

That’s not how one maintains the hegemony of the petrodollar. Besides, if the petrodollar was the concern, Israel would be the first country to go, as most Arab countries do not support the theft of Palestine by the Zionists.

Mueller: No Collusion Between Trump and Putin, But the Russia Card Is Bigger Than Ever

Those Neocons who now selectively support the president and those bitterly anti-Russian Fox pundits (with the possible exception of Tucker Carlson) are absolutely giddy with delight! The US Is Permanently Occupying Northern Syria, and That’s Trouble

ISRAEL HITS TARGET IN GAZA WITH TANK FIRE AFTER ‘DEVICE EXPLODES’ NEAR IDF PATROL

An Israeli tank fired at an observation post located in the southern Gaza Strip, the country’s Defense Forces (IDF) said. The shelling followed an explosive device being detonated near the Israeli patrol in the area.

IDF troops were patrolling an area near the security fence in the Gaza Strip, the military tweeted. It is still unclear if the explosion resulted in any casualties. In response, the IDF used a tank to target an observation post in the area.

On February 10, more than 50 Palestinian protesters were injured by Israeli forces, which used live ammunition to suppress the 10th ‘Friday of Rage’ rally. The latest major clash between the Israeli military and the Palestinian armed groups occurred in November when the IDF used tanks and jets to attack Hamas positions following the mortar shelling of an Israeli outpost by another militant group.

The Coming War on Lebanon: Israel, Saudi Arabia, U.S. Prepare “Long-Planned Middle East War”

Washington’s plan to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has ultimately failed. There is also the possibility that a new offensive against Syria that might take place as Washington maintains its troop levels in the devastated country caused by ISIS and other terrorists groups they supported. Various reports suggests that the Pentagon may reveal that there are close to 2,000 U.S. troops stationed in Syria even though ISIS has been defeated. So why is Washington staying in Syria? Will there be another attempt to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the near future? Most likely, yes. In America, the ‘Syria experts’ have turned into ‘Iran experts’ overnight

The ease with which American foreign policy “experts” can suddenly reinvent themselves, switching focus as the DC mood changes, exposes the Washington think tank racket as a giant sham designed to manipulate opinion.

When protests broke out in Iran at the end of 2017, Washington think tanks were ecstatic. They saw an opportunity to push for regime change and they went for it. Almost overnight, all of the self-proclaimed "Syria experts" who spent the last several years arguing for the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar Assad shifted their focus to Tehran.

Professor Stephen F. Cohen: Rethinking Putin – A Critical Reading

Professor Cohen is right: the real Putin has absolutely nothing, nothing at all, in common with the pseudo-Putin the Western media presents to its infinitely gullible and zombified audience.

I do believe that Professor Cohen will eventually go down in history as the most intellectually honest and courageous Russia expert in the US. In the meanwhile, the West is still stuck in its old, ideological ways: imperialism, nationalism and messianic exclusivism on one hand, and a complete surrender to post-modernism, cultural self-hatred, petty minority politics and moral relativism on the other.

Hadi’s Fall, Rise of South Yemen, End of the War?

Clashes broke out in the country’s interim capital of Aden, which was also the seat of government for the formerly independent country of South Yemen, over the weekend after President Hadi banned the “Southern Transitional Council” (STC) and its supporters from protesting him. The STC had given the Yemeni leader an ultimatum set to expire on Sunday to replace his allegedly corrupt government or face a revolt, and they claim that he ordered his soldiers to shoot at activists who defied his anti-protest decree and tried to assemble in the city regardless. The fast-moving situation saw the party’s armed wing, the “Southern Resistance Forces” (SRF), take over Aden in a move that Hadi’s government decried as a “coup’, which will undoubtedly have profound domestic and international implications.

South Yemen Protest Over US Drone Strike That Killed Civilians

The latest embarrassing result of a “signature strike” in America’s ever-growing drone war has sparked public protests in South Yemen’s Shabwa Province, where locals expressed outrage at a US attack that killed at least seven civilian members of a single family.

The attack, which took place on January 28, was in a remote part of Shabwa. The victims were family members in a vehicle, who went looking for a missing child in the Said District. The slain were not members of any political or religious organizations.

They were a bunch of guys in a car though, and when the US sees a crowded vehicle they assume it’s militants and attack. These are called “signature strikes,” strikes based on the victims giving the appearance of being a valid target.

UK Jewish Chronicle Editor Stephen Pollard and freedom of speech

"Stephen Pollard, the caricature of an editor for the rabid Zionist Jewish Chronicle, an outlet that operates as an Israeli mouthpiece and has openly waged intense campaigns against freedom of speech, has once again expressed his support for elementary rights, including the right to offend. In today’s Daily Mail, Pollard writes: “Snowflakes? They’re today’s fascists!”

"Pollard often champions “freedom of speech”. This time he was probably trying to gain credit with the UK Prime Minister’s Office following the attack on Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg as he attempted to give a talk to students at Bristol University. I need not mention that I didn’t see Pollard or the Jewish Chronicle denouncing Zionist hooligans who interfered with my right to play Jazz. Nor did I see the Jewish Chronicle or Pollard fight for Alison Chabloz’s right to perform her cabaret. Maybe in Pollard’s universe freedom of speech is an exclusive realm..." >>

TURKEY WARNS US TROOPS IN NORTHERN SYRIA MAY BE TARGETED BY ITS ARMED FORCES

Last week we reported that days Turkey valiantly demanded that US forces vacate military bases in the Syrian district of Manbij, the US predictably refused, and on Monday a top American general said that US troops will not pull out from the northern Syrian city of Manbij, rebuffing Ankara demands to withdraw from the city and risking a potential confrontation between the two NATO allies.

One week later, in the latest dramatic escalation between the two NATO members, Turkey's Deputy PM has warned that US troops fighting alongside Syrian Kurdish militias in the same uniform may be targeted by the Turkish army due to the difficulty of distinguishing them in the heat of battle, effectively stating that US troops in northern Syria are now "fair game" in the ongoing deadly conflict.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What I am hoping - and praying - for, is that this major escalation in tensions, and the war of words, between DC and Ankara, does NOT mean that our troops in Syria are being considered "sacrificial lambs" by this administration, to be used as a pretext and justification, to establish a wider US footprint in Syria.

Remember: regime change in Damascus is ultimately the issue to which this Administration keeps stubbornly clinging like a tick, no matter how high military and civilian casualties might be in pursuance of that goal.

I just have to wonder at what point Russia, which was invited by the Syria govenment to get rid of its jihadis will say "NYET!!" to a further American invasion of this sovereign country, and what actual steps may be taken by the Russians to prevent this from happening.

Because if the game plan by DC is to engage Russia in Syria militarily, it is obviously a game plan which was never thoroughy vetted, or thought through, with any degree if intellectual rigor.

INTERNATIONAL ARMS WATCHDOG FINDS THAT MOST ISIS WEAPONRY WAS PURCHASED BY THE UNITED STATES AND SAUDI ARABIA BEFORE BEING SHIPPED TO OPPOSITION FORCES IN SYRIA AND IRAQ

A damning report by the EU-funded Conflict Armament Research has found that the majority of weapons that ended-up in the hands of Daesh/ISIS were purchased from Eastern European stockpiles by the United States or Saudi Arabia and transferred to opposition militias in Syria. In many cases there is clear evidence to suggest that the arms were transferred into ISIS possession in less than a month, as US-backed groups amalgamated into ISIS or the weapons were sold on a thriving black market.

US-Backed Free Syrian Army Group Shoots Down Russian Jet, Kills Pilot

The Jaysh al-Nasr rebel group in Syria, part of the US-backed Free Syrian Army, has posted footage of its fighters celebrating the shoot-down of a Russian Suhkoi-25 jet fighter in the Idlib province of Syria. It is the first time a Russian fighter has been shot down by Syrian rebels attempting to overthrow the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

The 2017 US military spending bill provided authorization for the Department of Defense to arm the rebels with shoulder-fired antiaircraft missiles or ManPADS.

US is in talks with Turkey about Manbij: Mattis

The United States is in talks with Turkey about Manbij, Syria, but it is not the right time to discuss it publicly, Secretary of Defense James Mattis said on Feb. 2.

"I am not going to discuss [it] right now," Mattis told reporters at a news conference. "It is simply not the right time to do this in the public square."

Mattis was referring to Turkey’s plan to launch a military operation in the strategically important northern city as part of Operation Olive Branch.

Manbij lies northeast of Aleppo but just south of the Turkish border. Washington has voiced concern about the safety of U.S. troops in Manbij amid Turkey's ongoing operation in northeastern Syria.

There are about 2,000 American soldiers in Manbij.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to hope that these talks will ratchet down the tension here, but it is hard to know what will ultimately be decided.

The one think I am hoping and praying that doesn't happen is that these US troops not be used as "sacrificial lambs", toward a greater US footprint in Syria, which means we will be looking at being at war with Russia also.

US Airstrikes in Yemen Have Increased Sixfold Under Trump

With the Saudi invasion of Yemen turning sour and causing a humanitarian disaster, and the US having withdrawn most of its troops from the country early in that invasion, US officials have largely sought to downplay their military involvement in Yemen.

In reality, however, the number of US airstrikes being carried out has increased precipitously since President Trump took office, with 21 airstrikes on Yemen reported in 2016, and a more than sixfold increase leaving the 2017 figure at 131 strikes. 10 have been reported so far in January of 2018, suggesting that the escalation continues.

The strikes are theoretically targeted at al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and ISIS, though in practice with US troops in Yemen only “intermittently,” according to the Pentagon’s own accounting, it’s difficult to see how officials could know with any certainty what is being targeted by US warplanes, beyond being remote areas where such factions are believed to be operating.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Presidents Barak Obama and Donald Trump now have one thing in common, both blood-soaked, and vile, besides having been - and being President; responsibility for colluding in Saudi War Crimes in Yemen.

I remember years ago, as a kid, having swallowed the koolade of "America cannot, and would never do, something morally wrong" to another country.

Now, as an adult, and evaluating the global deteriorization demonstrated by world events and falling standards of living,, I am seeing massive US government military interventions through which to expropiateother country's natural resources to which this country has absolutely no moral right; regime change of governments, to make those governments more western-centric, and to insure that those resourcesm are only sold in US dollars.

The images I am about to present are absolutely "lose your lunch" real, graphic, and absolutely ugly, which it comes to Yemen; but I have absolutely no choice but to continue linking to them until the carnage in Yemen stops.

And now, Yemenis are dying from diptheria and cholera, because there is scarce little medication to treat them. the kids you see in this video may be the lucky ones, who are getting treatment in time. Video:children being treated for cholera

I would like to remind our readers that this is being done in your names, and with your tax dollars. We need to have a blunt, and honest, national conversation about why the US government is in collusion with Saudi Arabia in this genocide against the Yemeni people.

UN Urged to Implement Findings on Qatar Blockade

The National Committee for Human Rights (NHRC) called on the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (OHCHR) to implement the findings of the November 2017 report, which found the actions carried out by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt against Qatar to be discriminatory, without legal basis, and amounted to "economic warfare," Al-Jazeera reported. According to the OHCHR report, the measures taken by the quartet last June were unilateral, coercive and arbitrary and had a permanent effect on the union of families and the social fabric of the region as a whole. On June 5, the four Arab countries severed diplomatic, trade and travel ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting "terrorism". Doha has repeatedly denied the allegations as "baseless," while the four countries have failed to provide any evidence for their claims.

War Crimes and Genocide in Yemen: Death, Destruction, Starvation

The Saudi-led coalition unleashed a barrage of air strikes on Yemen, slaughtering as many as 71 civilians (many of them children) within a period of 48 hours, reported the Qatar-based news network Al Jazeera on Christmas Eve. This massacre attained little attention and dissolved into history, forgotten. On the next day, December 26, the coalition targeted more sites, killing at least 68 men, women and children.

Those who are not annihilated by bombs risk dying from starvation. The Yemeni people are under blockade, enforced intentionally, with an aim to starve them into submission.

By definition a vicious war crime, it is not a newsworthy subject across the Western media sphere. Silence is particularly well kept at the U.S. news network MSNBC, found a study conducted by an investigative team of Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR). The leading liberal channel did not air a “single segment devoted specifically to Yemen in the second half of 2017.”

Qatar to expand largest US airbase in MidEast to make it permanent, plans to host Navy

Qatar plans to add 200 more housing units to the Al-Udeid Air Base, crucial to the US-led counter-terrorist campaign, so that US troops deployed there on a permanent basis can feel “at home,” Qatar’s defense minister said.

Among far-reaching plans outlined by Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, Minister of State for Defense and Deputy Minister of Qatar, the Gulf kingdom is renovating its naval ports so that the US Navy can be deployed to the country in addition to some 10,000 US servicemen stationed at Al-Udeid air base near Doha.

To ensure the US troops lack nothing during their long-term deployment, Qatar “have decided immediately to build 200 units for the officers and officers’ families,” as well as a new school within the compound.

The "Dirty Game" To Fuel Ethnic Proxy War Across The Greater Middle East

Turkish allegations of Saudi, Emirati and Egyptian support for the outlawed Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) threatens to turn Turkey’s military offensive against Syrian Kurds aligned with the PKK into a regional imbroglio. The threat is magnified by Iranian assertions that low-intensity warfare is heating up in areas of the Islamic republic populated by ethnic minorities, including the Kurds in the northwest and the Baloch on the border with Pakistan.

Taken together, the two developments raise the specter of a potentially debilitating escalation of the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran as well as an aggravation of the eight-month-old Gulf crisis that has pitted Saudi Arabia and its allies against Qatar, the latter which has forged close ties to Turkey.

DACA a Dreamer’s Paradise

I agree some provision should be made for “Dreamers” to achieve legal status (not citizenship), but border security must be part of the deal so this doesn’t keep happening.

And someone needs to explain why Democrats are willing to shut down government services to American citizens (who voted them into office) to provide benefits to illegal immigrants.

Good heavens, civil and charitable Americans do not want to corral Dreamers into concentration camps or starve anyone because they circumvented the existing process for entry into our country and/or eventually applying for citizenship. After all, the American Dream has been available to those who accept the principles of our English language culture and heritage.

Turkey plays its latest card in the New Great Game – Pepe Escobar

Olive Branch” is the Orwellian-named Turkish invasion of a chunk of Syria. The operation comes as no surprise. President Tayyip Erdogan had hinted for nearly a year that a move was likely in the Syrian Kurdish canton of Afrin.

Uncle Sam dumps the Kurds (yet again) – The Saker

Russians need to stop the Turks before this all turns into a major and protracted conflict.

Did Trump and his generals really think that Turkey, Iran, Syria and Russia would accept a US protectorate in Syria masquerading as an “independent Kurdistan” and do nothing about it? Yet again, and I know this sounds hard to believe, but I think that this is yet another strong indication that the Empire is run by stupid and ignorant people whose brain and education simply do not allow them to grasp even the basic dynamics in the region of our planet they are interfering with.

Whatever may be the case the Turks reacted exactly as everybody thought:

By Remaining in Syria the US Is Fuelling More Wars in the Middle East

The US may want to get rid of Assad and weaken Iran across the region but it is too late. Pro-Iranian governments in Iraq and Syria are in power and Hezbollah is the most powerful single force in Lebanon. This is not going to change any time soon and, if the Americans want to weaken Assad by keeping a low-level war going, then this will make him even more reliant on Iran.

The present Turkish incursion shows that Ankara is not going to allow a new Kurdish state under US protection to be created in northern Syria and will fight rather than let this happen. But the YPG is highly motivated, well-armed and militarily experienced and will fight very hard, even though they may ultimately be overwhelmed by superior forces or because the Turkish and Syrian governments come together to crush them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is only one way in which to accurately describe the current US "strategy" in Syria: painfully incoherent, lost, and myopic.

Yemeni PM Calls Clashes Organized by Southern Movement in Aden Coup Attempt

The militants have managed to capture a number of government buildings, including the HQ, in the port city of Aden, a source told Sputnik.

The Southern Transitional Council, which supports the idea of separation from the Houthi-dominated north, planned to stage a rally on Sunday, demanding that Yemeni president, Abdrabu Mansur Hadi dismiss his cabinet.

The southern protesters accuse Prime Minister Ahmed bin Dagher and his ministers of corruption, thus urging Hadi to fire them Sunday and then form a new government.

BREAKING: Southern separatist groups in Yemen begin battles against Saudi-backed government

As the Yemeni war approaches its third year anniversary, separatists in southern Yemen have launched an insurgency and have take control of areas in Aden city. Aden is the proposed capital city of an independent southern Yemeni country. This comes as the Ansarullah movement control Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, while the mostly internationally recognized Yemeni government are based out of the southern port city of Aden. The Saudi-backed government in Aden has called the separatist actions as a coup. Saudi Arabia intervened in Yemen to reinstate their puppets, currently holed up in Aden, to bring them back to power in Sana'a. It remains to be seen how Saudi Arabia will react to the separatist actions that seek to topple the Saudi puppet government.

UAE, S. Arabia Intensify Power Struggle in Southern Yemen

Conflicts between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi will intensify in the next few weeks as the UAE is determined to speed up implementation of its strategy to take control of Southern Yemen with all its islands and ports, media reports said on Saturday. Yemen's state-run news agency reported that Saudi Arabia and the UAE are each trying win a larger share in Yemen and kick the other outside its zone, although the two are partners in the coalition. While Riyadh is seeking to establish control over Northern Yemen to Sana'a, Abu Dhabi supports the militants supported by the coalition in the Southern provinces. Abu Dhabi has also accused Saudi Arabia of shooting down its aircraft in 2016 and Riyadh claims that Abu Dhabi attacks the Saudi fighter jets in Yemen's Southern regions. The UAE is attacking the government of fugitive president Mansour Hadi which is supported by Saudi Arabia and wants to empower Ahmed Ali Saleh, the son of the former Yemeni president.
