US pressing Chinese and Arab banks to sanction Russia – head of VTB bank

The US is putting pressure on Chinese and Arab banks, forbidding them to work with Russian sanctioned companies, says Andrey Kostin, head of Russia's second biggest lender VTB.

"We have information on Arab countries, China, and others that US officials come, gather the heads of banks and say: "We will punish everyone who is under Russian sanctions," said Kostin, after a meeting organized by the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce in Germany.

"We need to take this into account. Nobody wants to become BNP Paribas”, he said, meaning the large French bank that was fined $9 billion for violating US sanctions against Cuba, Iran and Sudan.

However, Kostin believes Chinese credit organizations will provide financing for projects that interest them.

Obama's Mercenary Attacks On Syria Are Breaking The Law

According to the Washington Post the U.S. administration is discussing to increase the numbers of CIA trained mercenaries in Syria:

The Obama administration has been weighing plans to escalate the CIA’s role in arming and training fighters in Syria, a move aimed at accelerating covert U.S. support to moderate rebel factions while the Pentagon is preparing to establish its own training bases, U.S. officials said.

The administration knows very well that the legal ground it is standing on is very, very weak. The people it trains are criminals and do not observe basic laws of war or human rights. The administration's solution to breaking the law is trying to change it:

Webmaster's Commentary:

Breaking - and or changing - the laws of this country in order to achieve their objectives, is nothing new to this Administration.

And those objectives here have to do with wars creating private personal profit of the large corporations, coupled with the continuation of the hegemony of the US dollar.

We know that regime change in Syria, according to this Administration, is the prelude to regime change in Iran: but at what cost to our troops, militarily, monetarily, or morally?!?

From an historical standpoint, sending in "advisers" has never augured well for this country. So far, any training of rebels against Al-Assad's military has been an exercise in complete futility.

And because it is understood in military circles that one cannot win what is essentially a ground war from the air, when will we see the first US boots on the ground in Syria, if, in fact they are not already covertly there?!?

With this article stating "Around 2,000 Syrian fighters are slated to be given military training, which is set to begin at the end of December.", I would not be surprised to see US boots on the ground in Syria the very first part of next year, late winter, early spring.

BUT there is a teensy-weensy fly in the ointment here. As reported September 13th 2013 in examiner.com:

As noted on the official website of the University of Washington's Jackson School of International Studies (Jenkins, 17), the Russian Federation maintains mutual defense treaties with both Syria and Iran. Russia has stated on more than one occasion that “Iran is our close neighbor, just south of the Caucasus. Should anything happen to Iran, should Iran get drawn into any political or military hardships, this will be a direct threat to our national security.” An Attack On One Is An Attack On All... With the civil war ravaged Syrian nation bordering America's Turkish NATO partner to its south, if any of Assad's forces strike sovereign Turkish territory, the Ankara government could not only legitimately strike back, but every NATO member state would be treaty bound to militarily assist in any armed response. Subsequently, both the Russians and the Iranians would have no choice but to come to the defense of their mutual ally in Damascus.

So, any US military incursion into EITHER Syria or Iran will require Russia coming to either country's aid militarily.

And I have to wonder: is a full frontal US military attack against Syria their "back door" to a war against Russia?!?

And to our President, Congress, State Department and Pentagon: I would like to politely suggest that I am, surely, not the only American to have figured this out.

Airstrikes Fail to Slow ISIS' Iraq Killing Spree, Database Suggests

U.S.-led airstrikes have failed to slow the number of ISIS attacks and its defiant militants are now racking up a higher body count than ever before, according to data provided exclusively to NBC News.

Analysis of IHS Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Center's (JTIC) database shows the current face — and pace — of the group's battle for Syria and Iraq.

Data showed that ISIS massively stepped up attacks after conquering the Iraqi city of Mosul on June 10 — and has stepped them up further since airstrikes were launched in August. Deaths caused by ISIS also climbed since the key city was overrun and have continued to rise since the U.S.-led coalition started bombing the militants.

“The airstrikes certainly aren’t impairing their ability to intensify their attacks or carry out their campaign,” said Matthew Henman, head of the JTIC. “They’re not cowed by them, they’re not afraid.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

IT appears to me that these jihadists are taylor-made as the "excuse" for invasion 3.0 of Iraq, in an attempt to "groom" the American people toward yet another war here, to control both the oil,, and the monetary denomination in which that oil is sold (read: the US dollar).

Anyone with any insight into military tactics understands one thing: any military force cannot win what is essentially a ground war from the air.

Considering how "well" the last two invasions of Iraq have gone, it would be the most pig-headedly, ham-fistedly stupid thing for the US to reinvade now.

Unfortunately, however, just because something is a spectacularly stupid thing to be doing is absolutley no guarantee that the US government and military will not do it.

And... by the way, does it appear that both the Pentagon and State Department are experiencing SMD (selective memory disorder) regarding one guy here, who has the loyalty (including a commitment to fight) of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis?!?

I am referring, of course to Muqtada al Sadr, the Shiite Iranian cleric, who could mobiize an army in Iraq in a heartbeat. IF this guy still considers our country, and our military "the enemy" of the Iraqi people, (and there is no evidence to suggest that he has changed his mind on this issue), our soldiers are going to be in a world of hurt here, and hated by all sides.

I would also like to politely point out that until Saddam Hussein was lynched by the Americans, Shiites and Sunnis lived comfortably side by side, with no real beefs against each other.

Petrodollar Panic? China Signs Currency Swap Deal With Qatar & Canada

The march of global de-dollarization continues. In the last few days, China has signed direct currency agreements with Canada becoming North America's first offshore RMB hub, which CBC reports analysts suggest "could double maybe even triple the level of Canadian trade between Canada and China," impacting the need for Dollars. But that is not the week's biggest Petrodollar precariousness news, as The Examiner reports, a new chink in the petrodollar system was forged as China signed an agreement with Qatar to begin direct currency swaps between the two nations using the Yuan, and establishing the foundation for new direct trade with the OPEC nation in the very heart of the petrodollar system.

ISIS is America's Dream Rebel Army

US policy paper reveals desire for construction of full-scale extraterritorial army to invade Syria. Such an army is being built in Iraq and Turkey and it's called "ISIS."

Pentagon Downplays Mounting Losses in Iraq, Syria

Major losses on both the Iraqi and Syrian sides of the ISIS conflict emerged over the weekend, with ISIS routing a pro-Iraqi govt Sunni tribe and massacring hundreds of them, while Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda’s wing in Syria, forced a key US-allied moderate rebel faction to surrender.

The Pentagon is trying to downplay the problems, despite these both being clearly huge defeats for their strategy in the ever-escalating war, and is mostly falling back on semantic arguments to deflect concerns.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, it appears that the US has become the USI: The United States of Incompetence.

Unfortunately, the same malaise which seems to have infected the rest of the administration has also hit the Pentagon, and that is the complete inability to think anything through to its logical outcome.

And if there is one lesson that the Pentagon should have absorbed from the Vietnam war, it is that you cannot win what is essentially a ground war from the air.

But let me give you an alternative scenario; if the US government had invested just a very paltry percentage of the money it has spent on the wars against Iraq and Afghanistan on stable, clean alternative energy, which will drive a tank, or power a plane, NONE OF THESE WARS WOULD HAVE BEEN NECESSARY IN THE BLOODY FIRST PLACE!!

The US government patents the device, and the world comes scrambling to the US for this energy.

OF course, THAT... would be logical.

And logic and the US government have not had a comfortable, long-term relationship in quite some time.

Why is there such an explosion of violence across the Middle East? Here's an alternative view...

Not so with America and the war in Syria. “Right from the beginning of this crisis, I never truly felt that the issue was about President Assad,” she says. “It was about the weakening and destruction of Syria. There has been so much destruction – of hospitals, schools, factories, government institutions, you name it. I think the Americans take their battles against leaders and presidents – but only as a pretext to destroy countries. Saddam was not the real target –it was Iraq. And it’s the same for Libya now – America told everyone it was about Gaddafi. The real issue is about weakening the Arab armies, whoever they are. When the Americans invaded Iraq, what was the first thing they did? They dissolved the Iraqi army.”

9/11 Was NATO’s License to Expand Globally

The 9/11 attacks on the United States undoubtedly benefited a number of actors, including the American military-intelligence complex, Israel, and most definitely, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The Cold War-era, the area of responsibility for which had long been confined to Europe and North America, used the provisions of Article 5 of the NATO Charter – which states that an attack on one member is an attack on all – to extend NATO’s power deep into Eurasia, particularly in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

After engaging in out-of-area invasions and occupations of Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, and Syria and, again in Iraq, against the «Islamic State,» the «North Atlantic» military bloc has transformed itself from a Cold War defensive alliance into a global offensive axis of nations that acts with or without United Nations authorization.

US War on Iran Takes Bizarre Turn

It is not Western policy that indirectly spurs the creation and perpetuation of terrorist organizations, but in fact, direct, intentional, unmistakable support.

Who Lost Yemen?

The Huthi’s stunning rise to power is mainly the result of four factors: the incompetence of the interim government installed in 2011, former president Ali Abdullah Saleh’s desire for revenge against those who ousted him in 2011, Saudi Arabia and the UAE’s sharp turn against the Muslim Brotherhood and the astute political leadership of the Huthi movement itself.

The Huthi movement began in the 1990s as civil rights movement for Yemen’s Zaydis. Zaydism is a form of Shiism adhered to by Yemen’s rulers for 1,000 years until 1962, when Yemen became a Republic. The Zaydis believed that the descendants of the Prophet Mohamed’s family through Fatima, one of his daughters, and Ali, her husband, were the only people qualified to lead the Muslim community, and thus people claiming such descent formed a religious aristocracy in northern Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One factor, which goes completely unmentioned here, is the US government's support for the Al-Hadi regime, which was no less corrupt than that of its predecessor.

The late John Kennedy said it best: "When peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable."

Notice that ISIS Isn’t Beheading Swiss Citizens

Like the United States, Switzerland has a welfare state and a regulated society.

Yet, notice something important: Switzerland isn’t the subject of terrorist attacks, and the Islamic State isn’t beheading Swiss citizens. Wouldn’t you think that if radical Muslims hate the United States for its freedom and values, they would also hate Switzerland for its freedom and values, especially since the freedom and values of the United States are similar to those of Switzerland, with one major exception?

So, what’s that major exception? Is it possible that that major exception could provide a clue as to which comes first: terrorism or U.S. interventionism?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let me say this straightaway: I do not condone ANY violence, period, end of discussion. That which is hardest, true, good-faith negotiations, is always the best.

However, that having been said, the American government's interventionism and pre-emptive wars (for profit, and maintaining the US dollar as the world's reserve currency) have not won it many friends around the world, particularly if people who have had innocent family members or friends slain, or maimed, as a result of the US government's mucking about with other people's countries.

Yemen Shiite rebels set sights on strategic strait, oilfields

Shiite rebels who breezed into the Yemeni capital unopposed last month are now widely thought to be moving to cement their grip by snatching a strategic strait and oilfields.

The militiamen known as Huthis stormed into Sanaa on September 21, easily seizing key government installations, and they now man checkpoints and run patrols across the city in almost total absence of the security forces.

The rebels, who Yemeni authorities accuse Shiite-ruled Iran of backing, have refused to quit Sanaa despite a UN-brokered deal to give them more influence with the Sunni-dominated government.

Numerous sources in Yemen say the Huthis are now setting their sights on prized assets like the narrow Bab al-Mandeb strait leading to the Suez canal, as well as oilfields in Marib province.

Webmaster's Commentary:

FBI Director Warns of ‘Khorasan’ Threat

In comments on today’s “60 Minutes” program, FBI Director James Comey warned that the Khorasan group is “serious people, bent of destruction” who plan to attack the US “very, very soon.”

Comey insisted the US had to act as if the Khorasan strike was “coming tomorrow,” but conceded that they don’t know whether they plan to attack “tomorrow or three weeks or three months from now.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to FBI Director Comey: if there is a "big bang" in this country, it will mean that neither you, the NSA, the CIA, or the FBI, or military intelligence has been able to protect us, and should be collectively SACKED instantly after such an event occurs.

And the US government has another serious problem: few Americans believe ANYTHING this government says anymore, because it has completely paralyzed and crippled its own credibility.

Should there be a crisis inside this country (like a real, exponential outbreak of ebola here), even if the information the government was disseminating was accurate, it would not be believed.

Even if we defeat the Islamic State, we’ll still lose the bigger war

As America’s efforts to “degrade and ultimately destroy” Islamic State militants extend into Syria, Iraq War III has seamlessly morphed into Greater Middle East Battlefield XIV. That is, Syria has become at least the 14th country in the Islamic world that U.S. forces have invaded or occupied or bombed, and in which American soldiers have killed or been killed. And that’s just since 1980.

What Civilian Casualties? To Barack Obama, Women And Children In Syria And Iraq Are A Subhuman Species

One former Obama administration official said the new White House statement raises questions about how the U.S. intends to proceed in the conflict in Syria and Iraq, and under what legal authorities.

Wait, someone actually wondered under what legal authority the Obama administration is killing innocent people? How dare they: don't they know Obama has a Nobel peace prize, so none of his actions are subject to any scrutiny: surely the president himself is his own best moral censor.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am deeply concerned that these strikes, which are both deeply immoral and illegal in the extreme, are going to a larger regional war which, at some point, will include Russia.

As an American who cares deeply about the future road her country is taking, I cannot support them at all. All people in the world should have the right to peaceful self-determination.

But then again, in the grand scheme of things which originate in Sodom on the Potomac, this may be precisely the plan by those in the bowels of power in DC: a regional war which ultimately leads to war with Russia.

I would very politely like to point out that there is no guarantee of a positive outcome to such a war with Russia, because the US military doesn't have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure such an outcome.

And that is what makes the military scenario so scarily dangerous.

Biden blames US allies in Middle East for rise of ISIS

US Vice-President Joe Biden has accused America’s key allies in the Middle East of allowing the rise of the Islamic State (IS), saying they supported extremists with money and weapons in their eagerness to oust the Assad regime in Syria.

America’s “biggest problem” in Syria is its regional allies, Biden told students at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University on Thursday.

“Our allies in the region were our largest problem in Syria,” he said, explaining that Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the UAE were “so determined to take down Assad,” that in a sense they started a “proxy Sunni-Shia war” by pouring “hundreds of millions of dollars and tens of thousands of tons of weapons” towards anyone who would fight against Assad.

“And we could not convince our colleagues to stop supplying them,” said Biden, thus disassociating the US from unleashing the civil war in Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Fox’s new poll and the lie that could lead to more war

I’m guessing most Americans imagine annihilation when they hear the word “defeat.” But it’s worth noting that when he talks about his plan to “degrade and destroy” ISIS, the president is not. And that, ultimately, gets to the heart of why the campaign against ISIS remains so worrying, and why Obama’s depiction of it when he’s speaking to the nation at large is still so reckless. As the Daily Beast’s Michael Tomasky argued weeks ago (while calling on the president to intervene), and as Obama himself has explained when speaking with journalists or experts, destroying ISIS is well outside U.S. capacity. It’s something people in the region will ultimately have to do for themselves.

To avoid being sucked into another doomed invasion and all-out war, that’s something Americans should’ve understood from the beginning. It’s something the president should have told them. He didn’t; they don’t; and the new poll from Fox may be just the beginning.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This writer does a marvelous job of missing the point entirely.

Those in the bowels of power in DC desperately want another major war as a way to potentially get out of the economic crud in which their policies have placed this country, and misdirect people away from the real, honest causes of their financial misery.

In World War I and World War II, the US got out of the financial messes it was in through war. However, I would strongly caution to those few adults in the bowels of power that World War III may not produce the desired result here.

They want control over all Middle East oil, and the currency in which that oil is sold.

The US public is being "groomed" for another major war in the Middle East, plus a war against Russia.

The US has gone out of its way to surround Russia with nuclear missile encampments on its borders.

I would like to politely point out that the US military does not have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia; and that is what makes the military option here so scarily dangerous.

US Expands Syria Strikes: Not Just a War Against ISIS

US airstrikes seem to be expanding in scope today in Syria, with four different provinces of the country hit in attacks, including areas where ISIS is virtually non-existent.

President Obama has been insisting it is an oversimplification to say this war is America versus ISIS. Indeed, that’s the case, but while the president is seeking to downplay the scope of the conflict, the signs are that he’s at war with actually a much broader swath of the Syrian rebellion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is obvious to even a casual observer of the current geopolitical scene that these bombings of Syria are engineered to generate regime change in Damascus.

The questions which need to be asked are, will Al-Assad attempt invoke the mutual defense pact Syria has with Iran, to assist him against the US, and if that happens, what will Russia do to prevent any attacks against Iran, and stop the US from bombing Syria?

In the shadow of Iran a new UAE oil port is transforming energy sector

In response to Iran’s strategic grip over oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a new export route for crude from the Persian Gulf is growing on the coast of the Arabian Sea, with the potential to transform global energy markets.

Giant tankers now queue in lines stretching for miles to load oil or refuel at Fujairah – a sleepy sheikhdom in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – after the government invested billions of dollars into building a giant oil pipeline across the rugged Hajar mountains, with the aim of ending the potential stranglehold that Iran could place on the nation’s exports of crude.

The 21-mile-wide Hormuz channel handles a third of the world’s oil-tanker traffic and connects the Persian Gulf’s sheikhdoms to the Arabian Sea. Fears that Tehran could choke off exports shipped through it have been a concern weighing on oil markets for decades.

Israel PM warns Iran greater threat than IS jihadists

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Monday at the United Nations that a nuclear-capable Iran would pose the gravest threat to the world, far outstripping the jihadist terror from Iraq and Syria.

"Make no mistake, ISIS must be defeated," Netanyahu told the UN General Assembly, referring to the Islamic State group.

"But to defeat ISIS and leave Iran as a threshold nuclear state power is to win the battle and lose the war."

Netanyahu spoke a week after US President Barack Obama took to the UN podium to appeal for international support for the US-led coalition firing air strikes to defeat the IS jihadists.

The prime minister took a swipe at Iran's "smooth-talking" President Hassan Rouhani, accusing him of seeking a deal on Tehran's nuclear program without scrapping any bomb-making capacity.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And so, Israel's nuclear capabilities are absolutely no threat to the world, Prime Minister Netanyahu!?

And IF the US government had any male attributes whatsoever, it would follow the letter of its own law, because under the Symington Amendment, the US is forbidden to give either any any money or military aid to a country which has either a nuclear weapons program or nuclear energy program, but refuses to become a signatory to the NNPT, and refuses to allow its nuclear sites to be inspected.

Israel is such a country.

The US government breaks its own laws with impunity.

So why should civilians believe, for a second, that they need to obey any laws Congress passes?!?

The stench of these double standards stinks to high heaven.

Bahraini fighter jets join Syria strikes

Bahraini fighter jets have joined US-led air strikes in Syria to prevent extremist fighters from expanding throughout the region.

The US operation included the Royal Bahrain Air Force (RBAF) and military forces from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and Jordan, which was part of an international action plan to stamp out the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organisation, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I try to stay as logically focused as humanly possible, when I am posting.

But there is one thing I want to share with our readers, because I am pretty sure that some of you will have a resonance with this.

Monday, when we got the news here on Oahu that President Obama had begun a a series of air strikes against Syria, I felt as though he had knocked on our door; I had graciously let him in; and then he proceeded to knock this 65 year old gal to the floor with a sucker punch to my gut.

And for God's sake, look at the company the US government is keeping in this Administration's "Coalition of the (allegedly) Willing, 2014"!!!

Saudi Arabia, which carries out beheadings frequently, and Bahrain are two of the worst human rights abusers on this planet, and probably on a couple of others as well. (do we call that Species rights abuse on other planets?!?)

So THESE are our allies, chosen in order to take out Bashar Al Assad, who has done absolutely NOTHING to the United States?!?

President Obama, there is nothing that can take the moral stench out of this decision you have made, nothing whatsoever.

The country I used to believe I lived in exists no more; that is one hell of a hard reality to get my head around, but it is the absolute, stone cold truth.

Guenter Grass, German Nobel Winner, Criticizes Israel Over Iran Tensions

"The nuclear power Israel is endangering the already fragile world peace," Grass wrote in his poem titled:

"What must be said"

The 84-year-old Grass said he had been prompted to put pen to paper by Berlin's recent decision to sell Israel a submarine able to "send all-destroying warheads where the existence of a single nuclear bomb is unproven."

"The nuclear power Israel is endangering the already fragile world peace," he wrote. His poem specifically criticized Israel's "claim to the right of a first strike" against Iran.

Surprise Video Changes Syria “Timeline”

Al Jazeera’s Shaping of the Syrian Story

Of all the myths obstructing the honest portrayal of events in Syria this past year, none has been more fiercely guarded by regime-change advocates than this one stark falsehood:

Myth – the Syrian regime has only been shooting unarmed, peaceful protestors until very recently when opposition groups finally decided to arm themselves in self-defense.

Britain’s Mad-House Foreign Policy

The best and cheapest way of protecting our national security is simply to eject the madmen from the Foreign Office and stop pimping for the US and its mad-dog protegé.

Let’s see how quickly the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with Mr Bellingham’s help, can get their skates on and straighten out the simple matter of Palestine’s status so that Israel’s strutting psychopaths can finally be brought to book.

In Defense of Helen Thomas: What’s Wrong With History?

Helen Thomas’s recent request to purchase a table at the upcoming White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) annual dinner has been rejected.

In a comment on that story I said, “It’s hard to imagine anything more wrong than this.”

I base my opinion on the fact that the 91-year-old Thomas, a former WHCA president, is unique among American journalists, having covered 10 different presidential administrations in a career stretching back to Dwight Eisenhower.

It is because of Thomas as much as anyone else that women were first included at the WHCA dinner since, as the WHCA’s website mentions:

Israel set to uproot 30,000 of its own Bedouin citizens

Neve Gordon explains why Israel's plans to move entire communities of its own Bedouin citizens from their ancestral lands in the Negev and put them in townships will deprive them of their livelihood and land rights.

”I asked Abu Afash what he thinks will happen if they do not reach an agreement with the government. He paused for a moment and then replied that … ‘they will not put us on buses and move us, they will simply shut down the schools and wait. When we see we cannot send our children to school we will “willingly" move’.

“This is how forced relocation becomes voluntary and how Israel will likely represent it to the world.” (Neve Gordon)
